NEW BLOG: Historic Sites of African American Heritage on Long Island

Each week during Black History Month, we will highlight a segment of this blog to honor the historic and influential figures from Long Island’s Black community.

Sag Harbor, a historic whaling village on Long Island. By the mid-1800s, Sag Harbor was home to one of the most significant free Black communities in the North. The Eastville Community Historical Society preserves the legacy of Black whalers and their contributions to the maritime industry.
