Speaker 1 (00:00):
I always feel I have to preface this now just in case
there are new listeners.
I have been a widow now foralmost six years.
My wants, needs and supporthave drastically changed since
my husband, tom, died, and thisis reflected throughout my
podcast.
So here we go.

(00:21):
The first thing I think youneed to know about the widow
journey that you're about totake is you are not dead, just
your husband.
That may seem like a ratherbold statement, but it's the
truth statement, but it's thetruth.

(00:42):
Yes, you are going to grieveyour husband forever, but that
is only one single part of thiswidow journey, and I don't want
you to forget one importantthing you are also grieving

(01:04):
yourself Now.
Now, I did a previous episodeGrieving the loss of yourself in
season 3, episode 8, and youshould definitely go back and
listen to the episode.
I'll be sure to leave the linkin the show notes for you.
But today is all about you.
This widow journey is all aboutyou.

(01:26):
This widow journey is all aboutyou, your life, your purpose.
It is okay for you to thinkabout what you want for the rest
of your life and to be open toall the possibilities.
You don't have to be theselfless widow thinking about

(01:47):
everyone else but yourself, including your husband.
This is the time for you to beselfish.
It's the time for you to carefor yourself and to start
thinking about your own wantsand needs.
I know that some of youlistening may not be ready for

(02:08):
this, and that's okay.
To be in your sadness and thepain of grief for a while.
I know the comforts of it alltoo well.
But there will come a time whenyou're going to want more.
You will want to live again, and my only hope is that when
you do, you do it for yourself.

(02:29):
Do what is best for you.
Think about what your husbandwould want.
Do you really think he wantsyou to be sad and miserable for
the rest of your life, or wouldhe want to see you happy, living
out your hopes and dreams?
You are no longer going to bethe same person you were before

(02:53):
your husband died.
This new version of youdeserves a chance.
This new version of you is notbroken.
You are a masterpiece craftedby loss.
You are not starting over.
You are simply evolving intothe person you were always meant

(03:19):
to be.
So the question is what type ofwidow do you want to be?
Do you want to confine yourselfto the widow stereotypes, or do
you want to rise from the ashesof grief like a phoenix?
If so, I suggest you widow yourway, because, after all, you

(03:46):
are not dead, just your husband.
