What happens when educators slow down and really think about mathematics - together? How does that impact the thinking that can happen in our mathematics classrooms? My name is Courtney Flessner, and there are a lot of mathy things I love. But two of them rise to the top: impactful math routines that are easy to implement and create opportunities for all students to think critically and engage freely, and the power of collaborating with others who are committed to learning, reflecting, and continuously improving their craft in classrooms and schools.

Welcome to the Math Routine Collaborative Recap Podcast, a monthly podcast created from the conversations, questions, and a-has that emerge during the Math Routine Collaborative monthly meetings. The Math Routine Collaborative is run by Annie Fetter, Ralph Pantozzi, and Shelby Strong, who have a shared belief that routines are more than activities. They are structures that create access, invite student thinking, and support meaningful mathematical discourse. This podcast is an extension of that belief and that community.

After each Math Routine Collaborative virtual gathering, Annie, Ralph, and Shelby will join me as we come together to reflect on a math thinking routine that was explored. We’ll describe what it is, how it works, and what we noticed when we engaged with it as learners. You might hear from the facilitator of the routine, along with honest reflections about what challenged us, what surprised us, and what shifted our thinking about teaching and learning mathematics.

Whether you’re a Pk- 12 classroom teacher, coach, or leader, this podcast invites you into a collaborative space where mathematical ideas are made visible and learning happens through collaboration and reflection.

We’re glad you’re here. Let’s think…together!
