  • What the “Tomorrow Customer” has to do with long-term growth
  • Why repetition is the root of reputation—and revenue
  • Real quotes from James Clear, Aristotle, and Dave Ramsey that prove the point

Caleb Agee (00:15):
Can't think of one, can you?

Brandon Welch (00:16):
Knit sweater.
Ag Caught me off guard.
You shouldn't take me that long.

Caleb Agee (00:20):
Yeah.

Brandon Welch (00:21):
That is a fine knit sweater you're wearing.

Caleb Agee (00:22):
Well, thank you, it was very cold today it was.
Unseasonably for March, unseasonably fine knit sweater
you're wearing Well, thank you.

Brandon Welch (00:28):
It was very cold today.
It was Unseasonably for March, unseasonably warm and
unseasonably cold.
Yep, 80 mile an hour winds, woo, yep.
Hey, this is the place where weanswer your real life marketing
questions, so you can eliminatewaste in advertising, grow your
business and achieve theAnother installment of the Maven
Marketing Podcast called.
I Don't Know who Needs to Hearthis, but Keep showing up.

Caleb Agee (00:48):
Keep showing up.

Brandon Welch (00:50):
Yes, I don't know who needs to hear this, but
these are our 10-minute segmentsand this is just something that
kept coming out of my mouthlast couple weeks.
On two ends of the spectrum wehave two clients that started on
some of these plans that wetalked to you guys about just
showing up in the lives oftomorrow customers.

(01:10):
We'll put some episodes in thecomments.
If this happens to be yourfirst episode of the Maverick
Marketing Podcast, you need toknow about the tomorrow customer
because it is the secret tobecoming filthy rich rich says
the $11 billion study from LesBennett and Peter Fields the
largest study ever conducted onadvertising.
Winning the tomorrow customer isthe secret to health and wealth

(01:33):
of a growing business.

Caleb Agee (01:34):
Yep.

Brandon Welch (01:35):
And many, many millionaires from the Maven
Method that started as little, tiny businesses.
But here's the thing A coupleof these guys have had the
courage, two different marketsI'm thinking of.
Tulsa is one of them, and NorthCarolina is another one.
Not small markets, right.

(01:55):
These are markets that take alot of effort, a lot of
consistency, to become ahousehold name, and they started
doing this a couple of yearsago and just over the last
couple of weeks, we're justseeing some incredible fruits
yeah, I'm talking with one ofthem literally doubling the size

(02:17):
of their business and it justhappened.
It's like, oh wait, when didthat happen?
It didn't feel like it washappening for a long time.

Caleb Agee (02:24):
Yeah.

Brandon Welch (02:24):
But they kept showing up, kept showing up,
kept showing up right.

Caleb Agee (02:27):
Even during the winter.

Brandon Welch (02:28):
Even during the winter.

Caleb Agee (02:29):
Even during the off season.

Brandon Welch (02:31):
Wait during Christmas, yeah, yeah.
New Year's Eve, yeah, fourth ofJuly, yeah, so we're like
celebrating and high-fiving withthese guys.
We're like, hey, this is whathappens when you keep showing up
.
Similarly, we have another likejust a newer.
You know company to this method, if you will.

(02:51):
And they're like well, we'resix months in, we're not seeing
much.
What do we need to change andwhat's our answer?

Caleb Agee (02:58):
Keep showing up.

Brandon Welch (02:59):
Keep showing up, keep showing up, and so it just
struck me.
It's like this is the dumbestthing.
If you've read Atomic Habits, you know the secret to 1% better
every day.
If you've studied anybody ofsuccess or sustained success and
I'm talking about people who'vebuilt things they'll tell you
it's not all that sexy.
It's the same advice yourgrandma and grandpa would have
given you, but just littleconsistencies over time create

(03:24):
this monumental snowball effect, this mutual fund effect, and so
I don't know who needs to hearthis right now but, keep showing
up.
You have a business that theworld needs to know about.
You have a mission and aculture and a heart for your

(03:44):
people.
That needs to be realized, andnone of those big impact things
happen overnight.
You have a better way of doingthings.
You have a more innovative, more adaptable way of serving
people.
You have a good way, a solid, wholesome way of doing things in

(04:06):
your marketplace, and I know ifyou're listening to the maven
marketing podcast, that's trueabout you because, um, birds of
a feather flock together andyou're a bird, and we're a bird,
we have feathers and thisanalogy is getting off track,
but what I'm saying is guys, keep showing up.
This podcast is a is a exampleof that.

(04:26):
Did you know we're we're a fewweeks away from 100 episodes.
It's crazy.

Caleb Agee (04:32):
Yeah, I mean almost, congratulations almost don't
quit now, keep showing up keepshowing up, brandon, and why do
we do this?

Brandon Welch (04:37):
like I'm ranting right now caleb's gonna bring
this all home for you in just asecond but, um, we have such a
heart for the entrepreneur whowas trying to grow her thing or
his thing.
Um, and there's so many ofthese distractions and there's
so many of these, you know, shiny objects that get in the
way of of doing the actual thing.
And, and this podcast, uh, wassomething we um tried to do for

(05:02):
two or three years and, uh, backin 2023, we finally started it
and we said, dadgummit, we'regoing to show up.
And we had no expectations forrevenue, although tens, if not
hundreds, of thousands ofdollars and opportunities have
come because of this podcast forour company.
It was never an expectation.
As of this week, for the firsttime, somebody reached out

(05:24):
wanting to advertise on thispodcast.
Pretty crazy.

Caleb Agee (05:26):
I'm going to get a woot, woot, woot woot wanting to
advertise on this podcast.

Brandon Welch (05:28):
Pretty crazy.
I'm going to get a woot woot, woot, woot.
You're like, you haveadvertising prowess.

Caleb Agee (05:33):
Yeah.

Brandon Welch (05:34):
People want to put a sign on your forehead.
Just buy my forehead, mine wastoo expensive.

Caleb Agee (05:38):
It's a lot of real estate.

Brandon Welch (05:40):
Yeah, but we never did it for that.
We did it because we believe inyou, we believe in what you're
doing, and it's just so, so coolto look up after doing that and
go, wow, we've been showing upfor almost two years, right?
Every week.

Caleb Agee (05:54):
Yeah, and it just makes sense when you think about
anything that becomes healthyin life happens because of
consistency, because you show upover and over and over again,
anything that matures well, anything that um has strength.
So think about your health.
You have to.
You can't randomly becomehealthy or or fit or strong.

Brandon Welch (06:17):
Can't wait till you wake up to decide if you're
going to work out or eat.
Well, yeah.

Caleb Agee (06:21):
It happens, you know consistently over time some
sort of regular, regular thingit happens in relationships.

Brandon Welch (06:28):
You see that consistency and um Even when
it's not served, when it's notlike uh, ideal for you, you keep
showing up.

Caleb Agee (06:35):
Yeah, yep, and I think I think that's the thing
we have to remember is, if wewant it to be strong, it has to
be, it has to be something weshow up to all the time.

Brandon Welch (06:48):
Dave Ramsey says this a lot.

Caleb Agee (06:50):
Yeah.

Brandon Welch (06:51):
One day you're going to be an overnight success
.
You're going to show up thesame way for five years and then
, suddenly, you're going to bean overnight success.

Caleb Agee (06:57):
That's it.

Brandon Welch (06:58):
Yeah.

Caleb Agee (06:58):
Yeah.

Brandon Welch (06:59):
If, if I don't steal your microphone from
microphone from you like I justdid, that's all right.
Yeah, what were you going tosay?

Caleb Agee (07:04):
James Clear says we got a couple of quotes for you
just to inspire you today, thismorning, while you're driving to
work or you're going for a jog, maybe because you're getting
strong, I don't know.

Brandon Welch (07:13):
Yeah, you are.

Caleb Agee (07:14):
James Clear.
Your outcomes are a laggingmeasure of your habits.
You get what you repeat.
You get what you repeat, Loveit.
I'm going to say it one moretime.
No, I'm just kidding.

Brandon Welch (07:27):
Well, we're going to do that in a minute.
You are what you repeatedly do.
Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
Aristotle, aristotle, theAristotle.

Caleb Agee (07:38):
The Aristotle.
He tutored Alexander the Great.
Fun fact yes he did.
Thank you, my kids' schooling.

Brandon Welch (07:47):
Yes, thank you, homeschool.

Caleb Agee (07:48):
Robert Collier says constant repetition carries
conviction.
You see somebody who has that, that repetitiveness.
They are so steady and theyshow up every day the same way.
There's a conviction that yousense about them.
They're like on mission all thetime.

Brandon Welch (08:07):
Yes, yeah, yeah.
And you look at these peopleand you go, wow, they must be
really passionate people, theymust.
They have such passion andmotivation and drive and it's
like actually they're the moststeady.
Not really Like we think of themas these big slingshot heroic
moments, and that very, veryrarely leads to success on its
own.
Because you've put in theconsistent movements, because

(08:29):
you've shown up to your audience, because you've shown up for
your wife or your kids, or yourchurch or your ministry or your
family, then you become thisheroic person that one day,
doing what you would have doneanyway.
Just this moment happens thatit happens to be a heroic moment
, but you were showing up allalong.
It's not usually these JamesBond-like adventures that create

(08:49):
heroes.
It's the character right.

Caleb Agee (08:52):
Yeah, that's right.

Brandon Welch (08:55):
Constant repetition carries conviction.
I love that you want to be aconvicted person.
I love that one Go ahead.

Caleb Agee (09:04):
What did Elizabeth Arden say?
This one's interesting to me.
She says repetition makesreputation and reputation makes
customers.

Brandon Welch (09:13):
Yeah, what are you known for?
That's the business that alwaysdoes what.
They say things a certain way, they end things a certain way.
We've talked about my guy thatcleans my carpets for a lot of
money he's the highest pricedguy in town but he always leaves
a fresh baked loaf of bread.
What does your repeated, whatdoes your repetition say about

(09:35):
your reputation?

Caleb Agee (09:39):
Now I'm going to fail to name the book properly
here, but it's.
What Are you Known For, Ibelieve, or what Are you For?
Is the name of the bookSomething like that Guy?
He used to be a marketingexecutive for Chick-fil-A a
couple of sports franchises.
Brandon's going to Google itreal quick while I'm talking,
but big setup he has is what doyou want to be known for?

(10:00):
And he talks about as a company, what do you want to be known
for?
And he talks about as a companywhat do you want to be known
for?
And having a time where youguys write that down and you say
what do we want to be known for?
And then the next question, which stings a little bit, is
what are we actually known for?
And the distance between thosetwo things is what you've got to
work on.
That's where you need to showup consistently, and so I'd

(10:22):
encourage you.
It's that's.
This quote speaks directly tothat, which is repetition makes
reputation.
You, you have a reputation forsomething, you are known for
something, and reputation makescustomers, um, hopefully, a good
reputation what this guy'sknown for is his name, because
it's an awesome name rick qayeah qa right, uh, he wrote the
book.

Brandon Welch (10:42):
What are you known for?
Building your legacy one brickat a time good book.

Caleb Agee (10:46):
I recommend it.
I'm only halfway through it,but I do recommend the first
half of the book.

Brandon Welch (10:51):
I do recommend you read at least half of it um,
so why is this so hard?
why is this such a?
Why is this worth even talkingabout pointing out?
It is very fashionable to donew things, to do progressive
things, to do more with less, tosomehow hack the system, and
you know what.
That does happen in some ways, but it never replaces.

(11:14):
In my experience of all of thehundreds and hundreds of
entrepreneurs I've had a verydeep working relationship with.
I've never seen any of them getvery far past startup phase
with a change the scriptmentality, with a we got to
change it mentality.

(11:34):
It's the ones that keep showingup and maybe they're not doing
the most whimsical things.
They're just doing theconsistent things.

Caleb Agee (11:41):
That's it.

Brandon Welch (11:42):
Bill Bernbach.
We may land it on this note.
He was a very famousadvertising guy, art director
back in probably the Mad Men era.
But he said this in a verysuccinct way Human nature hasn't
changed for a million years.

(12:03):
It won't even change in thenext million years.
Only the superficial thingshave changed.
It is very fashionable to talkabout the changing man the new
technology.
Ooh chat, gpt changes.
It's going to change forever.
The way people?
Ooh chat gbt changes it's goingto change forever.

(12:31):
The way people buy ooh, amazonchanged the way people buy.
No, people have a void, theyalready have a void.
They walk around with a need, pain, hope or fear.
That uh needs an answer and ifyou are the answer and the most
trusted answer, and the answerthat's been showing up all along
.
Uh, they will think of youfirst.
They.
They will feel good about you, they will choose you, they will

(12:51):
refer their friends and familyto you and, on the topic of
sales or media, or marketing oradvertising or social media, or
leadership or culture, all Iwant you to do is keep showing
up.

Caleb Agee (13:08):
Hey, forward this episode to somebody who needs to
hear it today.
They need a littleencouragement.

Brandon Welch (13:14):
They need to they're a weary warrior.

Caleb Agee (13:17):
Maybe pull out of a rut.
If you were sent this, itdoesn't mean that they think
poorly of you.
It means they wanted toencourage you today.

Brandon Welch (13:25):
They want to encourage you to keep being you
You're carrying something.

Caleb Agee (13:31):
Keep up the big fight, the good fight, and if
you loved it, I would encourageyou to follow, subscribe
whatever that is for yourplatform and rate it.
That helps us to help morepeople, more entrepreneurs and
marketers, to grow theirbusiness without wasting
advertising.

Brandon Welch (13:49):
We over-underestimate what we can
do in two years.
We grossly sorry did I say weover.
We overestimate what we can doin two years.
We grossly underestimate whatcan happen in 10.
Keep showing up.
We will keep showing up.
Every Monday we'll be backanswering your real life
marketing questions, becausemarketers who cannot teach you
