Announcer (00:00):
Welcome to the Med Evidence Monday Minutes Radio
Show, hosted by KevinGeddings of
WSOS St. Augustine Radio and powered by ENCORE.
Each Monday morning, Dr.
MichaelKoren calls in to bring you the latest
MedicalUpdates with insightful discussion. MedEvidence is where we help you navigate the real truth behind medical research, with
Both clinical and researchperspective.

(00:21):
So step back, relax, and getready to learn about the truth
behind thedata in medicine and healthcare. This is MedEvidence!

Kevin Geddings (00:30):
Dr.
Michael Koren joining us livein the studio line as he does on
Mondays.
We appreciate him doing this onThanksgiving week, especially
he's a medical doctor,cardiologist, research
scientist.
He also directs all the effortsat, ENCORE Research Group where
people like you and me, we canall participate in leading edge
clinical research.
We can participate in medicalresearch, could benefit
ourselves in terms of ourhealthcare status, but probably

(00:52):
just as importantly, if not moreso, help move society forward.
And I know you wanted to givethanks on this Thanksgiving
week, correct?

Dr. Michael Koren (01:01):
You got it, Kevin.
My theme for the week is toreally express my gratitude to
the many, many people who havemade our company successful and
have made our our ability tomove science forward successful.
And I couldn't be morethankful.
And philosophically, I dobelieve that expressing

(01:22):
gratitude is something that wereally need to do more of
individually and as a society.
I think if we thought aboutthis concept of really
expressing gratitude when weinteract in our day-to-day ways
with uh members of our staff, with people in commerce, with
our friends and family, I thinkthe society would be much better

(01:43):
off.
And and typically people havethis feeling of gratitude, but
they don't always express it.
So I'm gonna try to practicewhat I preach and really express
my gratitude today.
And number one, I want to thankyou, Kevin, for doing this
wonderful broadcast.
Um I I appreciate how you bringthe best out in me and my
company, and and and you do awonderful job at it, so thank

(02:04):
you for that.
I want to thank you also on thehappier listeners because I
think you provide very valuableinformation to them, so that's
terrific.
I want to thank my staff.
I have an amazing staff.
We have over a hundred peoplethat work for the ENCORE
Research Group, which isa Division of Flourish Research,
a national company.
And we have our MedEvidencegroup of people.
It's a small but strong core, five or six people that get the

(02:28):
word out to the public.
And these are invaluablemessages that talk about the
truth behind the data, and Iwant to thank them for really
their fabulous work, theirtireless efforts.
And I want to most importantlythank our patients.
You know, over the course of my30-plus year career doing
research here in NortheastFlorida, we've treated thousands

(02:49):
of patients in clinicalresearch studies.
And I hope that uh peopleperceive the benefits of this
participation.
People that are involved in ourresearch are getting insights
into their own health care, number one.
And number two, they get towork with this amazing staff and
and there's some fun involvedwith that.
Uh three, in many cases, theyget paid for what they do, which

(03:12):
is a nice little benefit toshow our gratitude.
And most importantly, in thebig picture, is you participate
into society in our goal forbetter health care overall.
So you're doing something foryourself and at the same time
you do something for the commongood.
And a lot of our patients loveto be in that situation, love to
have that opportunity to dothings that are good for

(03:33):
themselves and their family andthe common good.
So all for really thosecontributions to what we do,
it's what makes my lifemeaningful.

Kevin Geddings (03:42):
That was very nice.
Well, thank you, Dr.
Michael Koren, and we're veryappreciative of your partnership
with us here at WSOS, and ourlisteners look forward to your
call-ins on Mondays.
I hear from them all the timeabout that, and they enjoy this
a lot.
So thank you for yourcommitment of time and resources
to make it all happen.
And such a good point, too.
You know, when you just are alittle bit kinder and appreciate
some thanks, you know, to theperson that's handing you the

(04:04):
coffee at Dunkin' Donuts or theperson that just checked you out
of Publix, you can just see asmile on their face.
It actually, for a lot offolks, will make their day, it
might be the only time they getany sense of gratitude during
the entire day, right?

Dr. Michael Koren (04:16):
Absolutely.
And and I'll also flip that, Istill practice cardiology, as
you mentioned, and what gets memost motivated, quite frankly,
Kevin, is the gratitude of mypatients.
There's nothing that floats myboat more than having a patient
really show that they gotsomething out of the interaction
with me.
And uh that's what drives me.
That's what keeps me going.

(04:37):
So uh thank you, patience, forexpressing your gratitude to me.

Kevin Geddings (04:41):
Yeah, absolutely.
Something I want to give thanksfor is the Med Evidence
platform because it's a greatresource for us to send our
listeners to where they can getreliable, reliable healthcare
information, right, Dr.
Koren?

Dr. Michael Koren (04:54):
You bet.
And uh reliable is a key word.
As you and I have talked abouton many occasions, most of the
information you get on theinternet is really coming from
people that have a very vestedinterest in selling you
something or have a veryspecific point of view.
In MedEvidence we take a veryobjective approach.
We present things in anyparticular area of medicine

(05:17):
based on what we know, based onwhat we don't know, and then
helping people understand whatit is that we do to learn about
the things that we don't know.
So that's our approach.
It's a very objective approach,and I'm getting just really
positive feedback.
The other thing we'd like to doin Med Evidence is make it
entertaining.
So we've had a lot of recentpodcasts that people have told
me have been fun to watch, andwe hope that you both enjoy it

(05:40):
and learn something from thesepresentations.

Kevin Geddings (05:42):
Well, it's all there for you.
It doesn't cost a dime.
Great, great resource for goodinformation you can
trust, MedEvidence.com.
Dr. Koren, thank you very muchfor joining us.
Of course, have a greatThanksgiving, a safe one, and
we'll speak with you next week, okay?

Dr. Michael Koren (06:02):
Bye bye.
