Meredith's husband (00:00):
I've got to
break out the sexy voice for
this one.
Meredith (00:02):
Yeah, it's great.
Meredith's husband (00:04):
Actually I
don't know how sexy it is, it
doesn't feel sexy.
Unfortunately it comes with asore throat and a cough and the
sniffles.
Meredith (00:13):
Yeah.
Meredith's husband (00:13):
But here it
goes anyway.
Yeah, we're going to talk aboutSquarespace today.
Meredith (00:18):
Oh, I'm very, very
excited about it.
Meredith's husband (00:20):
Meredith's
face just became a droopy mess.
So this episode is going to befor anybody who is already on
Squarespace, using Squarespace, and anybody who's thinking about
using Squarespace, or either awebsite for the first time or
changing to Squarespace.
I've got some good stuff foryou today.
Meredith (00:40):
That was my next
question.
Meredith's husband (00:43):
If you have
nothing to do with Squarespace.
If you have nothing to do withSquarespace, you don't plan on
using Squarespace, then there'snot going to be a whole lot
beneficial for you here.
Meredith (00:52):
Except jokes.
Meredith's husband (00:53):
Other than
listening to my sexy voice.
Meredith (00:55):
Which I gotta say as
the wife I like it.
Meredith's husband (01:00):
Okay, so
Squarespace?
So I do not like Squarespacefor a one major reason it is not
good for SEO.
Meredith (01:08):
Yeah, that's what I
think we've learned that.
Meredith's husband (01:10):
Yeah, and
I've, I mean it's better than it
used to be.
But I have always told people,if people come to me as a
consultant and are consideringor planning or have a website on
Squarespace, the first thing Isay is that is a long-term
business solution.
It is just not a businesssolution.
Now, what I do like about it isthat it's super easy, Like it
(01:35):
is by far easier to create awebsite on Squarespace than any
other platform I know of.
I think of it kind of like Legos, like anybody can play with
Legos, like it's easy to playwith Legos and you can build a
house with Legos, but would youreally want to live in that
house, or would you want to livein a house made of, like you
know, house stuff?
Meredith (01:56):
Wood, wood, glass Same
.
Thing.
Meredith's husband (01:59):
Same thing,
and if yeah, so if you're just
looking to start, to get started, then it's an okay solution,
that's what I did.
But in your future plan thatyou're going to migrate at some
point.
Meredith (02:12):
Yeah, yeah, because we
didn't.
We use my site also as kind ofan.
Meredith's husband (02:16):
Your site
actually is right now on
Squarespace.
Yeah, and we did that because Iwanted to design my own.
You, yes, yeah, and we did thatbecause I wanted to design my
own.
Meredith (02:25):
You yes, because you
got tired of saying here I
worked, I spent months andmonths on it.
What do you think about it?
Meredith's husband (02:32):
I remember.
I remember the phrase yeah, Ihate it.
Yeah, I remember the phrase Ihate it Hearing that one a lot.
But.
But in my, in my own defense, Ihave to say you got a lot of
clients through it, right?
yeah even if you didn't like it.
But anyway.
So I digress, so I go back.
So we decided yeah, you'regoing to design, you want to
(02:53):
control the aesthetic of yourown site.
Fair enough, you know.
So let's use Squarespace.
A whole lot easier for you todo that than it would be on
WordPress or ShowIt or Wix, oranything else literally Right.
Now since then since you havedone that, unfortunately I have
learned the fundamentals ofSquarespace.
(03:14):
I know a lot about Squarespace.
Now I know where a lot of theshortcomings are and a lot of
the things I learned very muchthe hard way.
Only looking back, or monthsafter the fact, I discovered
that something really bad andreally basic is happening.
I'm like oh shit, that is likefundamental.
If I make those mistakes, mostlikely other people are making
(03:38):
those mistakes also.
So what I have done is I createda fundamentals course, a little
mini course.
I won't call it a course, it'slike a series of things.
If you are thinking aboutputting a site on Squarespace,
or you already have a site onSquarespace, there's a few
things that you really got to do, you really have to do, and
they might not.
There's a chance that it mightnot be problems for you, right,
(04:00):
like I don't know, but there's,I think, a good chance that they
will be issues Okay.
So I will say, if you arethinking about, if you are
considering Squarespace, becauseit's easy something else I
would recommend you consider isWix.
Oh, I love that.
Now, wix used to be terrible.
(04:20):
They were so much worse thanSquarespace.
Wix has been completelyrevamped in the last couple
years and I only became aware ofit on two different occasions.
Number one, a colleague of minesuper smart guy really knows
his stuff told me how muchbetter Wix was.
Meredith (04:38):
And.
Meredith's husband (04:38):
I was like,
okay, that's it.
I didn't really believe him,but I'm like that's interesting
if he really thinks that.
And then Google, google, theydidn't recommend, but they kind
of praised Wix for the stuffthey were doing, which is very
rare.
I've never heard Google praiseanother company, really
especially like a websitebuilder, things like that.
They usually don't mentionanything by name, they don't
(05:01):
want to give recommendations, they don't want to go on record
as saying yes or no, anythinglike that.
But somebody at Google, a veryhigh person in what I would
consider the SEO portion oftheir company, said what a
wonderful job Wix has been doing.
So then I checked it out and itis amazing what they are doing
Holy smokes.
Meredith (05:19):
how so?
Meredith's husband (05:21):
Well, I'll
have to get into that in another
episode.
But so my point my point, yes,my point.
If you are thinking aboutSquarespace, Wix is also pretty
easy.
I would say it's probably notas easy as building a website on
Squarespace, but the differenceis, if you learn Wix, you can
stay on Wix.
Like it has it is a powerfulSEO solution.
(05:42):
It's really good, whereas ifyou go on Squarespace, like I
said, you're going to need tochange at some point in the
future.
Meredith (05:49):
So when you change,
let's just say, oh.
Let's just say my website is onSquarespace and I wanted to
switch it to another thing, another browser.
Meredith's husband (06:01):
Platform.
Meredith (06:02):
Do I then need to
recreate it on that platform?
Meredith's husband (06:07):
That's going
to be another episode also.
Meredith (06:09):
Oh, okay.
Meredith's husband (06:10):
Yeah,
there's a bunch there to unpack.
Meredith (06:12):
Okay, tune in for
Merit and Susbin, the new
episode how to Change yourPlatform.
Meredith's husband (06:20):
Okay, so
that's something to consider.
If you are consideringSquarespace, throw Wix in there.
Take a look, see what you think.
It is not quite as easy.
It's not like Legos.
It's more like what are thosepeg things that you can build
stuff with?
Meredith (06:38):
It's like a remember
that as a kid, the magnetic ones
.
Meredith's husband (06:42):
No, they
were like sticks and they had
like there were wood things.
It was like.
Meredith (06:46):
Oh yeah, pickup sticks
, no, that's a different thing.
Meredith's husband (06:48):
It's some
sort of building.
We use pickup sticks.
Meredith (06:51):
Oh logs, Lincoln logs.
Meredith's husband (06:53):
No, I don't
think so.
I don't know.
Anyway, as you can see by thebrilliant point I've just made,
wix is a little bit harder.
It's a little bit harder thanLegos.
Now, if you consider Wix andyou're like no, I like
Squarespace, or if you'realready on Squarespace, like I
said sometimes, it's the rightsolution.
I have a fundamentals minicourse that you can go check out
(07:23):
.
It's in the paid section ofMeredith's husband.
Meredith (07:24):
So it's not free, but
you can get a free trial.
That will be plenty of time togo through the fundamentals.
How about that?
A coupon code?
Is Squarespace fun?
Yeah, that's very nice, kind ofa sneak peek.
Meredith's husband (07:33):
Kind of a
sneak peek.
Meredith (07:34):
Or let's focus and use
this course for free.
Meredith's husband (07:39):
Yeah, you
can do that.
Yeah, use the course for free.
Meredith (07:42):
Yeah.
Meredith's husband (07:42):
That's what
I always say.
Meredith (07:43):
And then, if you like
it, you could maybe Venmo a nice
thank you.
Meredith's husband (07:47):
Well, you
can just keep the subscription,
if you like.
Meredith (07:49):
Oh, you could just
keep the subscription.
That's even better, easierBecause you're already there.
That's even better EasierBecause you're already there.
Meredith's husband (07:53):
Yeah, you
literally don't have to do
anything.
Meredith (07:56):
Okay, so this podcast
episode was to direct people
saying first off, you have twopaths.
One, if you are going to usethe Squarespace, then check out
the.
Smash Class yeah the smashclass, yeah and uh.
(08:19):
Then if you're not just ifyou're, if you're in a place
where you're thinking about it,also consider wicks.
That's the cliff note of thisyes episode yes, I'm as I.
I'm so smart.
Where's my diploma?
Meredith's husband (08:29):
it actually
is pretty good I should.
I should use that for something.
Meredith (08:33):
I have no clue what
you're talking I don't, don't
know, I have no idea.
This is not uncommon.
Meredith's husband (08:37):
If you're
listening and you don't have any
clue either.
This is kind of my life.
She asked me to open the sink.
Meredith (08:43):
That probably means
take the carrots out of the
fridge.
