Speaker 1 (00:28):
Roy and Jesse with an I Jackson, how are you?

Speaker 2 (00:31):
I'm doing well.
Good to be back, man.
It's been a while.
It's been a while.
I'm excited to be here.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yes, welcome, jesse.
First time in a while, correct, first time on this podcast.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
First time on this podcast and it's been since 2018
.
I've done any sort of podcast,so I'm excited to get back into
it.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Jeez, okay.
So what got you into this one?
Why did you want to join Roy?

Speaker 3 (00:56):
That was Roy's idea, actually.
I'll let him run with that.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, I just thought maybe have a little bit
different perspective on thestories that we have and and and
just kind of what we did in ourtravels and things like that
and our experiences and and Itook it.
I mean we went everywheretogether this summer.
So to not include her in that, like I need to include her in

(01:22):
this too, you know so.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
I'm glad I asked that question.
Yeah, yeah, you guys are almostlike rodeo.
Uh, royalty man, you know, there's always, you know, the
king and the queen right there.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
So yeah, I mean the rodeo clown and the rodeo queen.
There's a song about itsomewhere.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's a song called rodeo
queen by aaron watson, and royhad actually never heard it
until our wedding day, yeah, andit's about a rodeo clown
falling in love with the rodeoqueen, which is kind of fitting
here see, roy, man, we got tochange that behavior.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
man, that behavior, okay, just that.
That negative thinking andself-talk man, I don't want to
hear that, okay.
So welcome, jesse.
First time in a while, firsttime on this one, roy.
Last time you were here on thepodcast it was, well, I put it
out November 20th 2022.

(02:24):
Yeah, episode 112.
I put it out November 20th 2022.
Episode 112.
Can you believe it's been goingon that long?

Speaker 2 (02:31):
It is wild.
It felt like that was likeyesterday and like so much has
happened since then.
Just a lot of cool things andoh man, it's been a ride, man,
it's been so much fun.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yeah, and I thank you for allowing me to be part of
that journey.
Man, you know be watching youon Instagram live when I can get
to you.
You know, there's no likeseeing you live man.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Yeah, I checked out a few of your episodes this past
week and it's like holy crap, this dude's got a lot going on.
This is so cool yeah, so coolman.
Yeah, you listen to the connordean one I listen to connor and
I listen to, uh, um, the gal,she had the, the middle name,
the.
That was really cool.

(03:19):
Praise, bella, praise, praise.
I thought that was neat.
That was that was me.
Her episodes.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Killing it man.
She approached me and I was alllike Okay, and found out where
she went To school.
I was like well, if I've Gotthe boys on, I'm gonna get the
girls On.
And so she did a pitch and Iwas Like alright, and then you
know, wiley, shout out To Wileyalways you know, you know, uh,

(03:47):
we talk about him and uh madehim blush.
But yeah, that guy is a goodguy man, he's very professional,
so shout him out, um but, since, uh, what was it?
since I was, uh, put him on.
You know, uh, I just had to,you know, put her on.
And if they continue to come on, I'm still, I'll be TVCC's

(04:12):
biggest fan whenever they allowme, so hopefully the coach comes
on soon.
Totally.
Yeah, that's cool.
So lots have gone on, lots havechanged, and you've moved up.
I'm going to say it.
You've moved up and onward.
Yeah, take a butt and take anaze dude.

(04:34):
How does it feel?

Speaker 2 (04:36):
It feels awesome, man .
This is like it didn't reallysink in until, kind of after
season was over, because likewhen you're in the middle of it,
you don't really realize, kindof, where you're at sometimes
and how big it is.
And then, like you get doneafter the year's over and it's

(04:56):
like whoa, we just did all that.
Like that is just like I was atthe sisters, like I was at
sisters rodeo working in, I wasat, you know, working, high
desert stampede, working can bethese these awesome great rodeos
, to be a part of.
Gosh, it's been a dream cometrue, man.

(05:17):
I mean totally, totally neverand never thought I would make
it this big.
It's just it's, I don't havewords for it.
It's wild, I know, I know, andit's, it's big, it's just it's I
don't have words for it.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Why is that, roy?
I know, I know, and it's cool,it's good, it's okay.
Why is it?
Why is it shocking?
I mean, you're quite theathlete.
You're quite the bull fighter, you know your stuff.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
I guess not so much shocking, but just more.
I just feel more blessed thananything to be.
I mean, there's, there's just asmall percentage of the world
that that rodeos in general andthen a smaller percentage of
that that get to go and do it atan elite level, um, and and to

(06:01):
be around these guys and to be apart of, you know, some of the
biggest rodeos in the Northwest,um, I just feel humbled and and
totally blessed to be a part, just just to have a part in it.
So, and that's my, that's mywhole thing there.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
What about you, Jesse ?

Speaker 3 (06:23):
It's just been so fun .
So Roy and I, the first time weever chatted, we actually
FaceTimed while he was at arodeo.
He was in his hotel room justhanging out and we chatted for
probably an hour or so and thatwas when he was first coming
back into bullfighting.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
That was literally the first night I came back to
fight bulls, so we we talked onFaceTime the first night, the
first night I came back fightingbulls, so that was pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Yeah, and then after that you know we met.
Then COVID happened.
Everything was shut down, whichactually means for some really
interesting dates for us.
I know he's told you about thisone practice pen.
He would go down in Reno to andfight bulls for someone and

(07:16):
just hang out and still just getback into it.
And those were our dates.
I worked EMS at that time and soI would have a nice string of
days off and then I would drivedown to his house in Southern
Oregon.
I lived near Portland and soI'd drive down and we would

(07:38):
drive six hours to Reno and thensix hours back.
So you really learn how to getto know someone when you're in a
car with them for that long.
So to go from that and thenwatch him go to CCT and just
become I'm going to say it likeone of their favorite

(08:00):
bullfighters and then to go allthe way to the professional
level, it has just been so funto see and it took some time to
make that jump um for him but itwas just kind of all in god's
timing um 100.
So to get him to, to see thatand just keep going up and up

(08:25):
and get to do it with him, I'mcompletely blessed.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Yeah, yeah, it's elite level man.
You know that right, youunderstand that when there's
professional in the name.
Yeah, but still it's not someguy off the street, you know, on
the corner saying, hey, let'sgo fight bulls, let's go do
protection, you know, I meanthere was some there was some
work involved in this, to to getthere and then there.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
I mean, there were some times that I was very, very
blessed to be where I was, likein the, in the right place at
the right time, um, and you know.
So, just just all kinds ofstuff it was, it was just cool.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
So I remember when we were first married, he we were
kind of talking and he kind ofthought you know, oh, I'm
married now I'm probably notgonna rodeo as hard.
And he thankfully told me thatbecause I was like what are you
talking about?
I love rodeo.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
You love rodeo.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Why are you going to stop here?
Let's keep going up and up ifyou want to.
I'm here for it.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
That was cool, that was cool.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
So PRCA and PBR and then CCT, always CCT, right, are
you going to continue with CCT?

Speaker 2 (09:52):
I'm doing a few more shows with the CCT.
I actually got their finals, uhthis last January and bought
that.
That was my fourth one, so thatwas cool to to go back to that,
but more focusing on pro rodeosand trying to build it, build
it up there, um uh, my goal uhfor right now make columbia

(10:14):
river circuit finals.
That'd be a a good, attainablegoal for now.
And then, you know, as far asmaking nfr one day, that's still
a few years down the line.
It's just a time thing and youjust got to put in the work and
keep grinding and just see whereGod takes me with it.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
And not only do you have the PRCA, pbr, but you're
also Jesse's model man.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Yeah, he's so good at it, right Pretty.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Oh you're turning red , bro.
Oh, I turn red.
Yeah, You're, you know, husbandand model.
You're definitely a natural atit, but you model for our
business, Rockin' J Designs.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Yeah, I do.
I haven't got paid for that yet.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
Totally willingly right, willingly, willingly.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
We would do these shoots and it's like 30 degrees
out and I'm in a t-shirt.
It's like smile, look happy ina t-shirt.
Like smile, look happy.
All right, okay yeah, hurry up.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
It was cold enough.
His, your smile just got frozen.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
It was fine yeah, it stayed right there.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
Right, smile after that, oh yes, oh, I run rock and
jay designs, which is asilversmithing and apparel
company, and uh, it's funny, Iactually learned silversmithing
and apparel company and it'sfunny, I actually learned
silversmithing from Roy's dadbecause he learned it from Roy
when he went to college for itand he also rodeoed there as

(11:56):
well.
But yeah, so on the apparel, Idon't make him model the jewelry
, that seems a little mean, buthe's really the male shirts mean
, but he's really the maleshirts.
Yeah, modeling shirts andsweatshirts and hats, yeah hey,
you're a good sport, roy.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
yeah, yep, I, I had to put the model on there, man,
I mean dude.
No, that's great, add it to theresume.
Yeah, so silversmithing, it'snot easy, correct?

Speaker 3 (12:32):
It's not very easy.
No, I have a lot of calluses onmy hands to prove that, but I
absolutely love it.
Why does one person get into it?
I just actually asked Roy's dadonce.
It was actually New Year's Eveand we were at his house and he
had a little silversmithing shopand I just said you know what?

(12:54):
I'm just curious, what does ittake to build a piece?
So he went down with me to hissilver shop.
We picked out a stone and Ibuilt my first piece that day,
and after that I was just kindof hooked.
I was interested in leaving thejob I had at the time with a

(13:16):
Western fashion company, and soit was just kind of something to
supplement there.
And then I ended up leavingsooner than I planned, right
after we bought our house Thingsjust there.
It was just the right time forme to leave and so I just jumped

(13:37):
headfirst into it and peoplestarted buying things,
thankfully, and it's just goneand gone from there.
So I do that.
And then I also do real estateas well.
So it's nice to.
I'm a very analytical person, Ilike numbers and um, so real
estate satisfies that.
And then silversmithing I getto, uh, take care of my creative

(13:59):
side you're selling because yougot a darn good model.
Exactly yes.
Roy's like stop, Stop it's beenthis red in a while.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
I love it, Roy.
Hey, you wanted to have apodcast with the wife.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
It was my idea.
I know, I know, I know.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
That's awesome.
That was my idea, I know.
I know.
I know that's awesome.
I do watch, you know, rockin' JDesign on Instagram and I like
the fact that you share some ofyour silversmithing, you know,
with us with the videos andeverything else, and it does not
look easy at all, so I had toask you know.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Right, yeah, it's dirty work and and warm requires
a a couple different torches,so you got to be a little tough
to do it.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
be willing to get dirty okay, what's the easiest
part of what you do?

Speaker 3 (15:02):
oh my, my gosh Taking pictures after.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
Um, honestly, I love shopping for stones.
That's my favorite part, um,because I can.
I'm not one to draw out pieceswhere it's interesting.
When Roy Silversmith, he drawseverything out, everything.
I am not that way.
I look at the stones and justcan see it in my head how I want

(15:28):
to do it, um, and what I wantto make with them, and so that's
my favorite part.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
So I end up shopping for stones a lot very, very
artistic in that way yeahfinding and going to like stone
shows and just finding stonesand then have an idea already in
your head and then creating it.
It's pretty amazing really.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Average price of a stone.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
Oh my gosh, it varies .

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
Because I mean, there's so many different stones
out there.
There's some really common onesthat are easier to get yeah,
like obsidian onyx really commonones that are easier to get.
Obsidian onyx, things like thatare super easy.
And then there's really hard toget types of white buffalo.
Well, white buffalo's all thesame, it's just there's less of
it.
Now there's some turquoisethat's really really hard to get

(16:22):
a hold of, so it's prettypricey.
Um, yeah, it gets reallyinteresting trying to average
turquoise right now.
Oh my gosh, I'm pretty good atfinding deals, um, but I would
say $25 for like my cause, I'mgood at like.

(16:43):
I said $25 for like my cause,I'm good at, like I said, I'm
good at finding deals.
I would say $25 a stone, butthen there's some that get way,
way bigger and then there's somethat are cheaper.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Yeah, it depends on the size, for sure.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
I like big stones, so I'm looking at bigger ones, of
course you do.
I do.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
What lady doesn't I mean you got to really question.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
There are ladies out there that love the dainty
jewelry.
I'm not one of them.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Go big or go home, correct.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Uh-huh.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
Yeah, what's the worst thing about the business?
The?

Speaker 3 (17:21):
worst part is definitely the grinding portion.
So you've made your bezel.
It's all all the pretty stuffaround your bezel setting is
done, it's soldered on.
Now you got to shape it andthat's the worst part, because,
um, it's just really, reallymessy.

(17:41):
I wear an N95 respirator, Iwear safety goggles, I wear a
canvas apron.
She looks like she's in a lab,I look like I'm in a lab, but
it's just if I don't do all ofthe things.
Oh, and headphones, becauseit's so loud I started noticing

(18:02):
I would have ringing in my earsif I was using my rotary tool
and didn't have headphones on.
So I wear all the things andwhen you're having to wear that
for, you know, an hour, it getspretty uncomfortable.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
So yeah, okay, so that's, that's the worst part
yep and yep, in my opinion forsure okay question why do ladies
love turquoise?
Why turquoise?
It's pretty.
It's pretty but it's expensive.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
Yeah, well, you know, it's not as expensive as
diamonds.
Whoever said diamonds are agirl's best friend has not met
turquoise turquoise.

Speaker 1 (18:47):
So it depends on what you know if the lady's into the
western uh lifestyle that'strue.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
That is true, although it is really fun when I
because I do occasionally havebooth set shows um, I'll do a
couple rodeosos, I've done thecricket river races and there's
people that you would not expectto buy jewelry, buying jewelry
and it's really, really fun,cause, especially, they'll ask a
lot of questions about thestones and the process and it's

(19:19):
an opportunity to educate andthat's what I that's my favorite
part about doing the booth.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
Okay, how many times a year do you have your booth?

Speaker 3 (19:29):
I don't do it very often and there's a reason for
that and it's actually becauseI'm extremely lucky.
So, because Roy travels so muchto rodeos, um, I have developed
a reputation for bringing allthe jewelry with me to rodeos.
Um, I have developed areputation for bringing all of
the jewelry with me to rodeos.
I have a fancy little box forit.

(19:49):
I look like a Mary Kay ladywith my little box of jewelry.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
She just got this case and she just straight
pimped this jewelry around.
It's awesome.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Yeah, I wear it.
And then people ask about it orpeople have heard that I carry
it with me or have seen mywebsite, seen Instagram and
Facebook.
Somehow they know about it.
And then they come to thetrailer and shop.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
So I've done that.
During we were at Eugene ProRodeoo, there was two timers
that came by.
They left to go get money andthen came back with the clown's
wife and they they all boughtjewelry.
And then I have, um actuallysold pieces off of my body,
which is so it's so cool.

(20:40):
I did that at um circuit finals.
We were at the after party anda guy came up with his buddy and
was like hey, my girlfriendreally likes your necklace.
Who made it?
Um, you know where'd you get it?
And he was like well, Iactually made it.
And um, I sell them.
Yeah, I make them and sell them.
This one's available.
And he's like how much?
So I always carry little boxes, cause I like to have the nice

(21:03):
packaging and the polishingcloth and everything for people.
And so he Venmo'd me, Ipackaged it up and he went on
his way and surprised hisgirlfriend.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
Saleswoman One heck of a saleswoman.
Oh my gosh, is it difficult toget rid of the jewelry that you
wear?

Speaker 3 (21:25):
It can be.
I definitely get attached tosome pieces.
There's only one piece, though, that I've actually made and
will not sell.
Well, I guess I should say two.
One is the very first piece Imade with Roy's dad, and then
just one of the first pieces Imade that I just really really
loved how it came out and it wasall by myself, so I was just

(21:49):
really excited about it.
So I've kept that one.
But when I make some really bigpieces that I know took a lot
of time and effort and I wasvery proud of the design, it is
a little harder to see those go.
But when people love it, thathelps.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
It is a little harder to see those go, but when
people love it that helps.
Okay, there was one.
There was one that she it waslike that cactus set that she
made and I was like, man, youshould keep that one, that one's
pretty unique.
And she sold it.
I was.
I was actually kind of bummedout.
She sold it, but that's part ofit.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
Model turquoise yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
No, I like.
I like the jewelry too, becausethat's what I learned in school
.
So it's pretty neat and to seehow far she's taken it.
I used to do it and try to sellit and try to make it work, but
she's taken it so much furtherand it's just very cool to watch
.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
She got the lady touch.
Oh yeah, that's something wedon't have yeah, yeah but
turquoise.
Why is it so difficult toresist?

Speaker 3 (23:00):
I think it's the color.
I don't know what it is, butit's something that you can just
see from so far away.
And you know, we're like bugs,we're just attracted to it.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
That's a good way to put it.
Yeah, Royce.

Speaker 3 (23:15):
He knows it's true.
That's why he laughs.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
At least I don't have to buy it anymore, she just
makes her own.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
I'm pretty sure you're buying it, don't?

Speaker 3 (23:24):
keep anything for myself anymore, but I wear.
I wear it so much.
I literally just, you know, getdressed and then go to my
little Mary Kay box and decidewhat I want to wear that day.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
So given any rodeo, especially the NFR, how decked
out are you on your stones in agiven day, especially a well, I,
you know, I'm every piece ofjewelry I'm wearing I've made at
that point.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
That's crazy.
This this year was actuallyreally hard, though, because I
was in a leg brace, a ankle tothigh, knee brace, and so my
outfits were not near asexciting for nfr.
You know how the nfr can getladies go all out for it all
time of the day, and I fullyintended on partaking in all of

(24:12):
that.
Didn't quite happen, but Ialways had all of the jewels on.
So I actually had some goodluck in the fact that I was so
busy building other people'sjewelry for NFR that I didn't
get a lot of time to makesomething for myself like
specific.

(24:32):
But my favorite piece that Iwore I actually made the only
way we call it is like a thighnecklace.
So I had a.
I had a dress with a slit onthe thigh and then I had a I
think it was nine stonesaltogether in a piece that moved
with my leg that I could wearon my thigh to show through the

(24:55):
slit, and then it could also beworn as a necklace.
So that was definitely myfavorite piece that I brought to
NFR.
Um, just cause that was all myown design, I was very, very
proud of it.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
Then you made a.
You made a second piece too.

Speaker 3 (25:09):
I did make a second one for um an NFR photographer
that she wore.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
She shot, she shot at the NFR.
It was pretty cool, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
And so she actually wore it on stage during the um
back number ceremony.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Okay, wow, big time.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
Rocking Jade Designs making it big time.
Well, congrats.
I'm proud of you and one ofthese days I was going to ask
you what's the ultimate goal.

Speaker 3 (25:41):
Oh my gosh, I honestly I've been so busy,
taking it one day at a time, that I haven't made super big
goals.
Um, I know everyone wants abooth at the NFR, but I've been
so lucky just at the fact that Ican sell it off of me.

(26:02):
The thing is that it's 10 days,so making one person making
that much jewelry.
Anyone who goes to NFR hasmultiple people making for them
or they're buying, you know, wholesale to supplement.
So if I want to do that, there's going to be some
logistics like that that I needto figure out.

(26:24):
But never say never.

Speaker 1 (26:27):
Well, I know you made it, if you and if and when you
make that booth.
Okay, I'm like when, when, whenyou know if Rowdy Berry can be
there all 10 days and do histhing?
You know hustle and bustle inthe rodeo scene as well.
You can do that too.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
We're there, we're at NFR almost almost the whole
time already, just because I'malso a director for the high
desert stampede, and so we bothgo to convention, roy and I.
I go to the committee part andhe goes to the bullfighter part,
the contract personnel part.
Okay, so we're still reallybusy during the day.

(27:11):
Yeah, we're busy running aroundall over.
Good way to be.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
Yeah, still South points, your your base home base
.

Speaker 2 (27:20):
Oh yeah, yep, yep, will it always be pretty sure,
unless they decide to changesomething.
But I don't think it's goinganywhere anytime soon.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
When, how far out do you uh purchase your uh hotel?

Speaker 3 (27:35):
your room so we're really blessed in the fact that,
since I'm with high desert, ourblock of rooms is taken care of
.
Through them, we've actuallyalready secured our rooms for
next year.
They actually did it while wewere in vegas.
They, the front desk, got ahold of our treasurer and took
care of it.
Then which was awesome, Ithought you were director of

(27:58):
that, I did, yeah.
Yeah, high desert's reallyinteresting because I'm actually
, by being a director, we areactually shareholders of the
rodeo.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
So because it's so new, yeah, okay, big time Look
at you and fun rodeo wise too.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
It's fun because I work during high desert stampede
, I work the timed event gate, Irun all of the production out
of that side with our stockcontractor, secretary red hat,
hayley bridwell.
So I'm actually headphoned up,mic'd up, um, so that I can talk
directly to her, and our shootboss on the other side so that

(28:43):
we're coordinating everythingbehind the scenes.
So it's fun that I get to be onthe timed event and during the
rodeo and then roy's working therough stock end, okay.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
So we don't hardly see each other during high
desert stampede, like it'sseparate ends of the arena and
we're just running like chickenwith our heads cut off.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
So it's great that's the one in redmond, correct?

Speaker 3 (29:05):
yes, yeah, first weekend in april, it's so
difficult to get tickets.
It's so difficult to gettickets it is, yeah, yeah,
especially friday and saturday,we've had sold out shows and
then we actually sell standingroom only tickets after the
first 15 minutes have gone byinto the show.

(29:25):
That way everyone's seated andthen it's.
It's just the mezzanine levelthat we're selling, so we never
thought we'd have to do that.

Speaker 1 (29:33):
Even finals.
You got to have a spot You'd bea sponsor, to get tickets to
that too.
It's crazy.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
For the NFR.
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
No, the finals.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
Oh, circuit finals.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Circuit finals finals , circuit finals or CCT finals,
cct, oh yeah, cct that one'spacked CCT finals.

Speaker 3 (29:57):
That's a really fun show.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
Jason sells that really well yeah, with his VIP.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
Yeah, alright, roy sells out really well yeah with
his vip, yeah, yeah okay, allright, roy yes, sir man, man, oh
man, it's tough to get fromjesse to roy now because, man, I
didn't know jesse was this bigtime man I've got a lot going on
you guys, I don't how you guysdo it.

(30:23):
How do you guys have time?
I mean, you guys spend a lot oftime together, but wow.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
Yeah, no, the summer was definitely a blur and it
went by super fast just becauseof how busy we were.
Yeah, but it was.
It was fun as a ball.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
So do you?
Last time I talked to you man,you were questioning it.
You know you were invited.
Permit wise nfr.
Have you embraced the life ofelite athlete?

Speaker 2 (30:57):
yeah, and I, I think I think you have to.
Um, there's definitely um, youknow.
Know, you're still the new kidwhen you get to the pros.
Like, this was considered myrookie year this year, so you
know, I'm still learning thingsand learning how to, and I'm not
just fighting bulls in thearena, I'm in the back pens

(31:20):
running horses around, runningstock and keeping the show
running.
So that's another element inand of itself.
Like you got to earn thoseguys's trust in the backpins and
and um, I mean, like a lot ofthese bucking horses and bulls,
like they're upwards to 50hundred thousand dollar bulls
and horses.
So, yeah, you got to take careof them, make sure you don't

(31:45):
hurt them, and then turn aroundand fight bulls for the pro guys
that are going down the roadand making half a million
dollars a year, um, so it's,it's a.
It's a different ball game forsure, but I mean, in the end, I
mean treat it like, treat itlike any other rodeo and um, you

(32:07):
don't, so you don't, you know, overwhelm yourself, um, you know
what's, what's your goal thisyear, man?
uh, definitely make the columbiariver circuit.
I think I a a legit shot thisyear.
Um, like I said, last year wasjust learning the ropes and and

(32:30):
figuring things out, so thisyear make a big run for that.
Um, you know, I'm I'm workingon my conditioning more and
staying fit and watching how Ieat and things like that,
because I think that that goes.
That goes a long ways.

Speaker 1 (32:48):
Yeah, you look solid man, you look solid, you look
solid dude.
Thank you, jesse's like stop, stop no.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
And I I think that's just for longevity too Like I
want to do this for a while, like I'm 30 years old already
and you know a lot of guys ifthey're lucky they'll get to 40
or 45, you know.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Or 50 like.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Ronnie, yeah, I mean, that could happen.
But like if I'm going to dothat, I need to take care of
myself now, and so I'm lookingat the long game and try to get
as much out of it as I can yeah, you've been.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
You've been taking some hits though, man, yeah, I
took a couple last.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
Sorry it was.
Yeah, it was two, two, it was.
Well, it's jason finals twoyears ago.
Uh, I actually got a bullaround the length of me and got
underneath my vest and broke arib.
Yeah, the dang thing.
He ran the length of me and Iget up and come out of the arena

(33:53):
, took a couple deep breaths andlike okay, nothing's bubbling,
and go to try to put my vestback on and I was missing panels
on my vest.
There's like three differentpanels on my vest and I was
missing a rib piece.
Where'd it go?
It's still out in the arena.
He shredded that thing.
So a couple of the bull riderslike give me some tape, let's

(34:15):
tape this thing back on, let'sgo.
And we fought six more bullsand I didn't feel it so much
then.
But that night I think I slepttwo hours and it sucked and then
I had a performance the nextday to go to.
That was that was the.
You decide if you want to dothis or not.
Yeah, so that was one that wasnot fun welcome to the big

(34:41):
leagues, right, right yeah forsure, for sure.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
Well, big time rodeo means big time people, man.
Who's been the one that youwatch when you have time?
On any sport, though?

Speaker 2 (35:00):
Oh, like events.
Oh, event, or like rodeo eventsand things like that.
Yeah Gosh, who was it?
I was watching TJ gray a lotthis year because, uh, I
actually lived with um with themfor like a month in Derry,
oregon, cause I rodeoed.
I rodeoed with uh, his brother, levi college, rodeoed with him

(35:23):
and TJ was always hanging outand everything and and, uh, it
was really cool to see TJ dowhat he did, because the kid was
always hurt.
Even when he was younger he wasalways breaking an arm,
breaking something, and he neverreally got a chance to showcase
his talent and um him makingthe NFR number one.

(35:44):
I mean making it, I mean, youknow, he didn't have the
greatest finals, but like wewere so proud of that kid and
just so stoked and it was supercool to see him there and to
know him from such a young agelike that and to see him there
that was pretty surreal.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
Okay, all right.
What's the worst part of therodeo for you?
Worst part of the rodeo yeah,is it the waiting game when
you're not doing stock?

Speaker 2 (36:16):
I'm pretty I'm pretty busy the whole night, I guess
after the rodeo, because we gotto feed stock and you're up till
2 or 3 am like I'm ready to goto bed.
I got hay and every, everyplace imaginable and like I'm
ready to go to bed but I I can'tsay it's the worst because,

(36:37):
honestly, it's something that Ilove to do and you just kind of,
you just kind of embrace it youget one, you get with you know
one within the uh, the bull andthe stock and stuff like that
yeah, yeah, no, you really.
You really get to know theanimals when you're in the back
pens and you learn a lot backthere alright, man bullfighter.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
How many different ones, and who was the one that
you were like, wow, I'mbullfighting with?

Speaker 2 (37:14):
it had to have been Eric Schwic schwent and logan
blaisdell for sure, because thatthat was actually um.
When I first thought aboutfighting bulls, I was watching
those guys because they made itlook, you know, so cool and so
clean and the stuff that theydid, and then to be to be able

(37:36):
to fight with with those guys,um, that was.
That was pretty cool to bealong alongside those guys.
Logan blaisdell got nominatedfor um, nominated to go the nfr.
He was top five.
Didn't make the nfr, but stillhe top five.
That's.
That's a.
That's a very big achievementin pro rodeo.
And then um eric made the ericmade the nfr open that, that new

(38:03):
uh, that new event.
So that's coming up.
So both of those guys are areamazing, amazing to work with
logan's a big dude.
Right, he's very big, it'sreally it's really funny because
like I work, so like there'smatt acres, there's logan and
eric, and they're all pushingsix foot and I'm five, nine, and

(38:27):
then I watch myself on thecowboy channel and I just look
like a little midget runningaround out there like it's like
it's.
So I mean, yeah, it's fine, butyou know they're, they're big
guys yeah, logan looks like abull man.
Dude, he's a stud man he tooksome, some hits, um that last

(38:48):
year, well the year before hegot hurt, you know, yeah, and I
was so bummed out because Ithought for sure that was this
was going to be his year to makeit, because if you get a
nomination, well the year before, he got hurt, you know yeah,
and I was so bummed out becauseI thought, for sure that was,
this was going to be his year tomake it, because if you get a
nomination the next year, you'reprobably going to get it, you
know, yeah, so him messing hisknee up, yeah, it sucked okay,

(39:10):
up and coming.

Speaker 1 (39:10):
Cct rider man kid, no kid.
Who's the one I tried to reachout to, that one that you told
me to Still waiting.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
Oh, are you?
Yeah, so who's the one?
Gosh, the one I'm watchingright now.
I like watching Wyatt Davis atthe finals this year.
He bucked off at two bulls thatif he rode he would have won
the finals for sure.
He rode one the first night, gosh, they rode the crap out of

(39:40):
some bulls.
Um, he would have been in thehigh 90s on that first bull.
He took him to like seven fivehole, and then the one he had
the day after that he took himabout the sixth hole.
But once, once, that kid, he'llget a little older, a little
more mature.
He's going to be unstoppable.
I think he'll be the next one.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
Okay, yeah, man, he's a tough little guy.
He's a little, he's little, andthose guys.

Speaker 2 (40:07):
Oh yeah.
Those bulls buck him off Hishand doesn't come out of the
rope Like the longest hang upI've ever worked was his.
The longest hang up I've everworked was his.
Was his, oh my gosh, yeah, his,his dad bought me a case of
beer after that one.

Speaker 1 (40:23):
I bet, yeah, he's a tough.
He's a tough kid man.
I remember when he got in thatuh, you know he was in the
hospital, man, but yeah that wasscary back on.
I didn't think he was gonna beback on it, man, but dude yeah
yeah, miracles, oh totally.
But yeah, he's a senior now,isn't he?
I'm pretty sure yeah I think.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
So I'm pretty sure I keep thinking he's older than he
is because, uh, like I, I'llask him.
And he's like man, you're thatyoung like geez, good dude, well
, and even just being around him, he's just a mature kid.

Speaker 3 (40:55):
He's like man, you're that young, like geez, you're
that good dude.
Well, and even just beingaround him, he's just a mature
kid, he's very mature and sopolite.

Speaker 2 (41:02):
Just a great kid, Great family too.
Love his mom and dad.

Speaker 1 (41:06):
Yeah, yeah, very respectful, very, yeah, and I
mean, that's what you get from aKlamath Falls cowboy, right?

Speaker 2 (41:14):
Oh, totally.

Speaker 1 (41:19):
What about you, Jess?
Who do I like to watch?

Speaker 3 (41:22):
Yes, oh, my gosh.
Well, honestly, mine is thesame as Roy's, because I love
Wyatt's family.
Every time I go to a CCTthey're right there, how you
doing, how you been, everything.
So, um, and then I really alsolike watching justin houston.
Just because he's also goneinto the pros he still comes

(41:46):
back to ccts, but he's alwayswilling to help kids too.
Yeah, um, from what I've seen,he's really willing to give back
to the sport, and I respectthat a lot too.

Speaker 1 (42:00):
Yeah, he's, he's, he's tough yeah.
I like to say dirty, but thatin a good way, you know.

Speaker 3 (42:06):
Yeah, yeah, he's really good at landing in the
wrong spot.
Really has to save him a lot, but.

Speaker 1 (42:12):
Gotcha.
Gotcha him a lot, but gotchagotcha.

Speaker 2 (42:27):
Yeah, all right, all right.
So what is the goal for 2025,for me or for both, I don't know
.
We we're just enjoying it rightnow.
I got some pretty good prorodeos coming up, um, and really
just just building off of that,um, and just kind of see where
it takes us.

(42:47):
Like I said, um, columbia rivercircuit would be the goal, for
sure, um, but yeah, just keepbuilding on those rodeos and
it's that's.

Speaker 1 (42:59):
That's pretty much it there what's your first event
this year?

Speaker 2 (43:04):
uh gosh, I got, I got one for the cct in prineville.
I'll do that one.
Sisters, yeah, sisters would bein June, that's a for sure one.
And then jump into Newport, right after that Eugene Canby

(43:31):
and then Cashmere, colfax, washington, up around there
Colfaxax huh yeah, yeah, well, have you been there?

Speaker 1 (43:42):
it's, it's dinky it's small oh yeah, it's, it's fun.

Speaker 2 (43:47):
I enjoyed, enjoyed going up there.
It's, it's it's fun.
It's a different, what northernwashington's kind of a
different world, I think it is.

Speaker 1 (43:54):
it's like the last frontier, especially eastern,
eastern.

Speaker 2 (43:58):
Oh yeah, Northeastern .

Speaker 1 (43:59):
Washington.
Yeah, it's like the lastfrontier man.
Yeah, it's a different worldyeah.

Speaker 2 (44:05):
Totally.

Speaker 1 (44:08):
And a lot of the boys that come out of there bull
riding are from that area.
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (44:21):
Like JC Connor Dean.
Yeah, bull riding um are fromthat area.
Yeah, yeah, like jc connor dean.
Yeah, most of those guys thatweren't you talking to it.
Uh, it's a treasure valley, youwere talking.
Yeah, most of those guys werefrom from that area.

Speaker 1 (44:29):
I thought yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah nice yeah, it's,
it's a.
It's a different breed man.
They're like, they're differentwhen I in a good way, in a
great way.
It's they're, they're thetoughest kids I've ever seen.
Yeah, I mean you know you cantell certain people and regions

(44:50):
up there I'm probably upthere, man, totally.
Yeah.
Uh, you know, j-dub marriott,he, he, you know, went on the
podcast and then somebody pickedhim up, a contractor picked him
up in montana and man, he'sjust been busy ever since, you
know so that's awesome, yeahpretty cool.

(45:10):
It's actually cool that peoplelisten, you know, to the podcast
yeah yeah, no yes, sir dude, two names come around it's you
and hankinson.
The third oh yeah, old james, every old james, you know he has

(45:34):
a kid.

Speaker 2 (45:35):
now he does.
He talks like an old man.
They brought.
They brought her down when shewas she.
She was real young.

Speaker 3 (45:45):
She was eight weeks.

Speaker 2 (45:46):
Yeah.
The beginning of August.
So tiny, just the cutest littlebaby it was.
It was cool.
Walker, our, our, our dog wasjust totally like in love, in
love with it.

Speaker 1 (45:59):
They were sitting on the floor and it just had his
head just staring at the thingyeah yeah, it was cool, oh oh
yeah, not gonna say anything, not gonna say anything wow roy
said that's fine.
Wow, roy said that's fine, hmm,any any little ones

(46:23):
bullfighters soon or no?

Speaker 3 (46:26):
Just for babies right now.

Speaker 1 (46:28):
Yeah, all right, all right who knows.

Speaker 2 (46:32):
No question comes across, but I don't know.
Well, someday maybe we'll see.
But I don't know, someday maybeWe'll see.

Speaker 1 (46:38):
You better.
Let me know?
Yeah, little Jackson For sure.
All right.
So what now?
What's next for you, jessie?

Speaker 3 (46:52):
Oh my gosh.
Well, I still always want totravel with him.
So that's why I work the waythat I work for myself, and so
I'll keep silversmithing kind ofthe same pace I've already been
doing.
But I'm super excited actuallyabout real estate, because I

(47:13):
just went into business with mydad and so, um, it's I mean
literally weeks old business Um,he's been doing it, uh, real
estate, since 2006.
So I can learn a lot from himand it's just I'm really excited
to get to go into businesstogether.
So it's kind of of that's mymain focus right now is building

(47:37):
that business.
So, um, but again I get to doit on the road.
You know, really the only partsthat I need to be in town for
is showing houses and like goingto inspections and things like
that.
So for the most part I'll getto travel.
Roy and I want to go back towhat Roy said actually, because

(47:58):
he listed, you know, the rodeoshe had.
Has he actually had all thoselast year and I think it's so
cool?
So he mentioned it, worded itperfectly the other day Every
time you go to a rodeo like anew one, it's a job interview.
You go to a rodeo like a newone, it's a job interview and

(48:20):
the fact that all of these thathe went to want him back is just
like the greatest compliment.
And it's really fun for mebecause I went with him to every
single one and I've gotten toknow people and made connections
.
I'm really close with some ofthe committees um, canby's, my
hometown rodeo, and I mean Iknow the High Desert crew, okay,
I guess you know, okay.

(48:41):
And then I love Newport.
It's Newport, washington.
Yeah, that's a great rodeocommittee too.
So but I just wanted to swingback around there because that's
my just.
I love traveling to rodeos, Ilove getting the trailer ready,
I love making sure we're readyto roll as soon as he's off work

(49:04):
and just getting to support himas much as I can.
So that's I.
I look forward to the rodeosjust as much as he does.

Speaker 1 (49:15):
So do you think the reason why he's coming back is
because of you?

Speaker 3 (49:19):
I guaranteed, yeah, we, we joke that I'm his manager
.

Speaker 2 (49:27):
I honestly couldn't do without her, Cause, like,
like she said, like I'll comehome from work and it's
literally come straight homefrom work, shower and and and
head to the rodeo, and she's goteverything ready, Trailer's
ready to go, and and uh it.
It's a huge help to have her inmy corner, for sure it's

(49:48):
awesome.

Speaker 1 (49:51):
You can tell the love .
You can tell the love, you cansee it.
Nah, I'm not trying toembarrass anybody, I'm just
spitting the love.
You can tell the love, you cansee it.
I'm not trying to embarrassanybody, I'm just spitting the
truth.
That's great, oh man.
So who's working Pendleton CCTnext month?

Speaker 2 (50:10):
They actually had to cancel that, I guess, because
they're doing some new buildingon the the pendleton grounds
there, so it's gonna be hard toto get a rodeo done in there.
But, um, they're thinking maybe, maybe the year after that.
So okay, but yeah, james, jamestext me and he's like there's

(50:32):
no pendleton this year, like now, and no, yeah, he was pretty
bummed out.
I really like to work withJames because we just click well
together and we really enjoyhanging out with each other.

Speaker 1 (50:44):
Oh yeah, that reminds me the two names that come
around that I've run into.
You know the kids.
You know just down-to-earthcowboys who just you know the
kids.
Well, you know just down toearth cowboys who just you know.
I'd ask them like whoinfluences you?
You and hank.
Uh, hankinson always comes upman oh, really that's cool.

(51:08):
That's good to hear a lot ofkids respect you guys and uh
like the fact that you know youdo pay it forward and are
respectful yourself and yeah, come in, you know, and, like I
said before, the podcast.

Speaker 2 (51:23):
I appreciate you, man yeah, no, thank you, appreciate
that, man yeah, yeah, hey, hankinson, you know, he doesn't
he he works really freaking hard, like he'll send me snapchats
of just insane workouts that hedoes and he just kills himself

(51:46):
and, uh, gosh dang, yeah, he, heworks insanely hard, so I I
think that's awesome yeah, yeah, but you, you guys, definitely
those up and coming bullfighterstoo around the pacific
northwest utah, they, they speakhigh.

Speaker 1 (52:06):
Love you guys.

Speaker 2 (52:07):
So keep doing what you're doing.
Man keep thank you what you'redoing, appreciate that so what
are you sipping on right now?
I'm sipping on a seltzer waterright now it's a strawberry
lemonade okay, it almost almostlooked like a uh a beer, but no,

(52:27):
not quite, I'll do um gosh,I've been into the ciders lately
a little bit.
Got the we went.
What was that brewery andsisters that we went to three
creeks is that the one?
Oh, it was the barn.
The barn, actually.

Speaker 3 (52:44):
Yeah they got another brewery there yeah, there's
like a little the brewery mightjust be a tap house yeah, they
got the they got the food cartsaround there.

Speaker 2 (52:55):
Yeah, one of my sponsors actually popped
Southern Barbecue there.
They got really good barbecuethere.
But yeah, I've been on theseltzers lately.
They had like a lemonadehuckleberry deal there.
Yeah, cider, that was reallygood.

Speaker 1 (53:11):
All right.
Where's your favorite place toeat in Redmond oh?

Speaker 2 (53:20):
Carnival for sure.

Speaker 1 (53:22):
Carnival.

Speaker 2 (53:22):
That's like the, that's like the big date night
place we go to.

Speaker 1 (53:26):
Carnival.

Speaker 2 (53:27):
Yep, oh it's.
It's awesome, man.
What is it?
What kind of food?
It's a Mexican restaurant, okay, down there.
So good yeah, we get the.
What?
Good yeah, we get the.
What dish do we get?

Speaker 3 (53:37):
a lombres okay I hope I'm saying that right, you know
, but it's, it's like steak andpeppers, mushrooms, pineapple,
um, I think there's bacon inthere and then they put a little
bit of cheese on top and justlike.
It's kind of like done fajitastyle and and then, you know,

(54:00):
they have really good house madeguacamole and have all that on
the side, and then they haveawesome margaritas.

Speaker 2 (54:06):
Oh, yeah, I get the prickly pear margarita there,
it's just.

Speaker 1 (54:11):
Any flavor other than regular margaritas is good.
It's good.

Speaker 2 (54:15):
Yeah, it's good.
Yeah, like lime or lemon.

Speaker 1 (54:19):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So I'll tell you.
I asked because I need to makea trip down there.
Might end up going toPrineville since Pendleton's not
going.
But definitely haven't beendrinking, man, I haven't been
drinking man, I haven't beendrinking you haven't?
No, I my last beer, believe itor not.

(54:42):
I had three beers when I firstgot there in vegas first day.
Second day three beers yeah Iended up getting sick the final
day and I was just like no, butI think I just had.
I had bubble gums and I thinkthat's what got me ill.

Speaker 2 (55:00):
But yeah.

Speaker 1 (55:01):
But then when I got home had to start treatment, for
you know cancer, and so Ihaven't.
I've been afraid to do anythingto inflame my system and.
I stayed away from it.
It feels pretty good.
It feels pretty good I don'tmiss it.

Speaker 2 (55:20):
But man and honestly, like me, I went like the whole
month of july didn't drink atall and even going back further
than that, I quit drinking forlike six months.
There for a while, that waslike the best my body ever felt.
Yeah, um, it's just, it's soamazing, like I mean in all
reality, like it does poisonyour body, like you drink that

(55:44):
much of it's gonna affect you.
Um, but like, yeah, like, evenwhen I, even when I have a by a
beer or a margarita or whatever, usually it's one or two and and
then it's usually not not muchand my body thanks me for that,
you know, yeah yeah, so I had toask the place because you know

(56:08):
I normally go to an initiativeyeah love initiative.

Speaker 1 (56:12):
The food is outstanding, but, man, I just
don't want to have smell thatbeer and yeah so to that point,
um carnival.

Speaker 3 (56:22):
Actually, I remember seeing one of their facebook
posts.
They're doing dry january, sothey're making all of their
signature cocktailsnon-alcoholic, and I'm sure
they'll keep doing that.
And because they're they're sogood though they're everything's
like fresh squeezed andeverything.

Speaker 1 (56:40):
Okay, it's good since you're a real estate agent.
How's the uh the market in theredmond?

Speaker 3 (56:49):
um, it's so busy.
Yeah, I mean, roy doesexcavation and he's always busy.
So we're constantly building,constantly selling.

Speaker 1 (57:00):
Is it becoming a metro area Part of Ben?
You guys like going to beTri-Cities yourself?

Speaker 3 (57:08):
I think that would be quite a ways away.
But you know I'm not going totry to predict the future there
it could happen, it might not, Ihave no idea it's, it's growing
rapidly.

Speaker 2 (57:23):
It would take it would take a few years for it to
join, but yeah, it's.
It's the place to be right nowredmond.

Speaker 1 (57:30):
Yeah, yeah, I would definitely take redmond over
bend any day, and thank goodnessBen got that bypass finally.

Speaker 2 (57:38):
Oh, it helps a lot.
You fly through that thing now, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (57:42):
Yeah, thank God, all right.
Yeah, we were there, soPrineville for sure.
Who are you fighting with?

Speaker 2 (57:54):
Probably Victor Rodriguez Still around.
Huh, oh yeah, prineville forsure.
Who you, who you're fightingwith?
Uh, probably victor rodriguezstill around, huh oh yeah, he
fought every single cct eventthis year.
So and that that kid's a studtoo yeah, yeah, do you miss him?

Speaker 1 (58:09):
do you miss not fighting with him like you have
been in the past?

Speaker 2 (58:15):
oh yeah, I, I like working with that kid and I
still, I mean I worked.
Every event that I did go tocct, it was with him yeah, and
I'm I'm really comfortableworking with him.
Um, yeah, I think he's.
He's the next kid coming up.
I think that should go get hiscard, um, but I don't know,

(58:37):
what's that, I don't know.
I think I don't know.
I think he's just don't know.
I think he's just.
I think he just enjoys wherehe's at right now and you know,
there's nothing wrong with thatat all.
What?
What makes you happy makes youhappy, so just roll with it, man
.

Speaker 1 (58:51):
Okay, all right.
Do you think we said it all?
Do you think we were done?
We've been on it for a goodhour.
I don't know.
You got more questions or Ialways have more questions.

Speaker 2 (59:05):
You got more questions Always go a little
longer, if you want.

Speaker 1 (59:09):
Okay, all right, I hate you know, I'm going to.
I'm going to say this before itgets too late, though, man to,
to hear you talk now, comparedto one 12's, it's quite, uh, a
huge.
It's a huge difference, man.
That's a, you know you, youdidn't question yourself that

(59:30):
much, but you, you know you hada permit the nfr kind of spoke
down to that and now to hear theconfidence in your voice and
yourself, dude, it's, it's coolto see man, it's cool to
experience it and just see yoube the elite athlete that you

(59:51):
are, man.
So no I, I, man, it's, it's,it's amazing.
It's amazing how you know, whenI saw you and I continue to see
you or talk to you, you know, you lift me up and I, I think
it's my turn to uh, turn to youand uh, pay it forward and tell
you dude, thank you, and thatyou, you yourself, are a rock

(01:00:14):
star and I owe you a lot too manso I know this bro moment.
Jesse, sorry, that's a bromoment you have your moment.

Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
Yeah, yeah, yeah and even and even like with you,
like, like your your pastpodcast, like when you did the
one with me, like your questionshave changed so much and it's
just, it's just come so far anduh, it's, it's pretty cool to
see what you're doing.
I like that you're.
You're interviewing the, thecollege kids, and getting into
that college rodeo world andtalking to those guys.

(01:00:44):
That's pretty neat.

Speaker 1 (01:00:46):
They love it, dude, they love it, oh yeah.
Man, the kids love it becausethey even say off air.
They say you know I, I like thefact that you give us little
guys, you know, a voice.
You know that right.
There is why I'm doing what Ido, man, you know I can, I can

(01:01:09):
go for the big guys, but howmany other people are doing the
big guys?

Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
Well, and it's great it's.
It's great too because there'slike a lot of, you know,
everybody wants to talk, wantsto talk to those big guys and
they don't they don't reallywant to talk to the college, the
college athletes, and thosecollege athletes they do have a
story Like um, you know, I made,I made the, the college
national finals, um, and anybodythat goes there, um, that

(01:01:40):
that's a, that that's a, that'sa big rodeo to go to, um, yeah,
you know, and to make thatthat's a big accomplishment and,
you know, for some of thosekids to make that that's pretty
cool yeah, even the high schoollevel, man washington is I know
oregon's pretty good, but man,the washington kids, they take
it up a notch man, maybe it'sbecause I have a couple at the

(01:02:02):
school and I I interview a fewof them in and around washington
and man, they, they're verycompetitive, man, and oh,
totally yeah, they're friends, but man, they talk the most crap
about each other.

Speaker 1 (01:02:16):
it's funny, funny, it's funny.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
Yeah, it's all in fun .

Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
Yeah, it's, it's cool to see it, man, you know.
Yeah, yeah, connor Dean reallybrought it to JC, you know.
So JC, hopefully, is going tobe on soon, hopefully.

Speaker 2 (01:02:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
And that was funny.

Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
He, connor, brought up uh his uncle, scotty Bartell
and uh Lyle.
And it was when when I backwhen I was riding bulls when I
was really young, they were likethe older guys riding, so it
was funny that they broughtthose two names up.
Like man, I rodeo with thoseguys back when like npra times
and stuff like that, so that'scool to hear their names again

(01:02:55):
with with cody, uh, not cody, um, uh, this he said he mentioned
scotty and he mentioned lyle andthose, those two guys, yep okay
the, the uncles, he talked, hetalked about the uncles.

Speaker 1 (01:03:09):
Yeah, about the uncles you know how I got connor
on.
Man, I wanted connor on beforehe was a senior, right, right
and, and I tried to get him on.
He just ignored me.
He talked to me a bit and thenhe ignored me.
The only way I got him on isbecause I know cody man all
right, cody went after him foryou no, well, you know I, I

(01:03:33):
cody's a musician and man he's,he's really good.
I don't know if he does honkytonk, you know, and the sound
and dude, there's nothing likeit.
You know you don't get thatmuch around here and it's kind
of what's up?

Speaker 2 (01:03:47):
have you heard of hunter styles?

Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
yes, yes have you gotten him on yet?

Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
no, I've seen him a couple times, I talked to him,
but uh, yeah, yeah, he, yeah,he's, he's good, he's good, but
yeah he's a cool dude, I like, Ilike hunter he's actually he's
going to a couple of the rodeosthat I'm at and he hung out with
us, his sisters, his wholefamily and everything.
He's great.

Speaker 1 (01:04:08):
Yeah, he's a really nice guy, yeah, yeah, I saw him
a couple times.
But, cody, every time he comesin and around town I'll go watch
him, but uh, nice yeah I hadthem on the podcast and then
it's like connor, when is it man, when I'll be on?
So I was like yeah, finally, and then he gets on.
It's like 30 minutes and thenafterwards, a lot of these kids,

(01:04:29):
they're like I yeah where Icould have said more.
I'm like, yeah, you could have, but you know I'm not gonna.
I'm going to push you, man.
So next time let's talk, nexttime, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
The world's going by so fast for those kids.

Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
Right, I know man, I remember Lane talking to him
Madsen, look at what Madsen, godthat boy.

Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
It was really cool.
So I went to circuit finals togo hang out and and help pull
gates and things and it was likethe whole klamath crew was in
the locker room.
It was like lane vaughn, tj,gray, levi, gray cole hill was
there and you just kind of sitthere and you're hanging out.
It's like man.
These were all the kids inklamath that I rodeoed with.

(01:05:19):
We I mean from the junior bullson up and now we're all in the
pros and it that was.

Speaker 1 (01:05:26):
That was pretty cool yeah, and lane's making his name
a name for himself.
Man, it's, it's quite really atreat to see he's I mean, he's
traveling.
Speaking of travel, will youstay in the Pacific Northwest?

Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
I'll go pretty much anywhere they ask me to go, just
kind of how it works.
If somebody gets hurt and theyneed a guy and they call me,
I'll go.
So I'm not scared to go toTexas or go clear across the
country.

Speaker 1 (01:05:59):
Okay, I was going to say you know, go to Texas or go
clear across the country.
Okay, I was going to say howfar East.

Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
Well, it also depends on if it'll be affordable to
get there, you know, becausetraveling is expensive.
That's why, uh, I have a fewsponsors now and that makes that
makes a world of differencegoing down the road and and
things like that.
Um, yeah, I, I really couldn'tdo it without those guys either

(01:06:26):
who are they?

Speaker 1 (01:06:27):
how many?
How many do you have?
First of all, I think I gotfive.
Wow, good job man yeah so bachand js, she doesn't count, it
counts, just kidding.

Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
Rock and Jay Realtree , now Oregon.

Speaker 3 (01:06:48):
Living Service.
That's changing.

Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
Pop Southern Barbecue in Sisters, american Adrenaline
in Hoodview Graphics sisters umAmerican adrenaline um and hood
um graphics and peak wellness.
Peak wellness yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:07:06):
Yeah, you've been with them for a while.

Speaker 2 (01:07:08):
Yeah, peak wellness is really cool.
She, uh, she does the the IVstuff A lot of times.
I'll get that just for an eventand I feel awesome, that's,
that's, that's cool, that's areally sweet deal.

Speaker 1 (01:07:20):
Yeah, you've been with them.
For how long?
Shoot two years, two yearsmaybe.
Yeah, well shout out to allyour sponsors, including Rocking
J.
Oh guys, man, roy, I can'tbelieve we we're.
We're back on man and I yeah,I'm glad to see you just killing

(01:07:46):
it, killing the game, alongwith your wife.
It's amazing to even you know,to hear you be there for him
throughout this whole.

Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
Push, a push yeah, it's just life now, it's a
lifestyle, yeah did it roy?

Speaker 2 (01:08:07):
yeah, no, it's.
It's a great life and there'sstill a lot more to come.
I think this is just the tip ofthe iceberg, for sure.
So.
Don't like like some people say, don't forget where you came
from, Right oh totally, and ifyou have to, that's and that's
the part like when you make itto these big shows like.

(01:08:29):
So my first night at sisters, like, was a very humbling
experience.
Like it was a Saturday night Ihappened to get in because um
eric schwint had gotten hurtsaturday night and like that's
the biggest, that's the biggestcrowd, yeah.

(01:08:50):
And then, like jb mooney wasout that night, stetson wright
was out that night, kai hamilton, I think, won it that night,
and to just be there and be apart of that, it was just like,
wow, why me God?
That was pretty cool.
So anytime I'm at those bigrodeos like that, it's just

(01:09:12):
awesome to be a part of it.

Speaker 1 (01:09:15):
When they called you up and you hit the dirt and
you're, you're working right.
Yeah, how was your heart rate, man?

Speaker 2 (01:09:25):
It was racing, for sure, but the but the time like
leading up to it was was themost the the more drama.
Dramatic, I guess I should say.
So.
The Wednesday night, um, I wasjust there pulling gates like
they just hired me for that, andone of the bullfighters got.

(01:09:46):
It was, uh, danny newman gotran over first bull out and he
was out for the x bulls.
Well, I already had my permit,so you know, legally I could
have fought that deal and andEric and Logan ended up
finishing the X-Bowls and thenwe went through.
Was it Thursday night?

(01:10:08):
It was, yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:10:11):
I thought it was Wednesday.

Speaker 2 (01:10:13):
No, it was Friday night.
Friday night on Fulham Gatesand Eric no, eric hadn't gotten
hurt yet um, I was, yeah, I waspulling gates and a bull rider
got knocked out right in frontof the bucking shoots and that

(01:10:33):
bull went to the corner of thearena opposite of the outgate
and I'm kind of standing overthis guy and I know that bull's
gonna come back and I'm just inmy street clothes and here, sure
enough, here comes this bulland I just it was just a little
move to get him away, butsomebody, somebody filmed it and

(01:10:54):
got a really got a really sweetvideo of it.
It's on my instagram.
But uh, somebody filmed that.
And then, um, I think it wasthe next night no, it was a day
performance.
That saturday eric ended uppulling his hamstring really bad
, and he was, he was fighting itoff, and I mean that that guy's
so tough, like he didn't.

(01:11:17):
He didn't want to give a spotup and I don't blame him, like
you never want to do that.
And it wasn't up until an hourbefore the rodeo that I, that
he's like okay, you're, you'rein, roy, and that was pretty
crazy in of itself right there, like, okay, let's go do this.
And and then that that waspretty wild, just like an hour

(01:11:41):
before the.
The show is just your heart, just my heart was just racing
the whole night you know.
And then now that I've gotten toknow everybody there and
everything they you know, theythey want me back and actually
filled in, for I filled in forlogan last year because he
messed his knee up, and thenthey want me back this year.

Speaker 3 (01:12:01):
So, um, just just some great stories there yeah, I
want to add to that story, uh,just a little bit.
So they you know Brock hadcaught it on camera, filmed it
and he's a professionalvideographer and Ben and sisters
posted that video of Roy makingthat save and I don't think he

(01:12:25):
even knew it, um, but peopleended up seeing it.
A lot of people that come tosisters go a second night,
things like that.
They want to come to Saturdaynight and the crowd when they
announced roy was so loud it wasthe loudest I had ever heard
that crowd until you know, areally great bull ride was made,

(01:12:48):
um, but I don't, you probablydidn't even notice that I didn't
your ear was so loud, peopleknew it was you and I don't
think you caught it, but it wasreally cool.
I was up in the plaza yeahfilming and, uh, it was just
wild the roar.
I loved it, I didn't hear.

Speaker 2 (01:13:07):
I didn't hear the announcer the whole night like
it was just yeah, I was totallyin the moment.

Speaker 1 (01:13:13):
You're in the zone man yeah okay, you've been doing
a lot of cardio.

Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
Yeah, some, some cardio.
I've been.
I've been trying to run on thetrack a little bit more.
Um, not like crazy miles oranything Like I don't I don't
know how many miles like runnersdo a day or anything like that,
but I don't know get one or twomiles in, try to do that quite
often.
And then I got a the stationarybike over here.

(01:13:44):
I'll, I'll, uh, I'll ride thatand put on bullfighting
highlights and and just do thattoo, and then, along with some
other workouts that I do so wellif I make it down to prineville
.

Speaker 1 (01:13:58):
Last time I I went there right the next day.
I ended up trying to do smithrock.
I did smith rock, but I spentthe night in um in my truck and
then, man, that was the coldestnight ever.
It was the coldest night ever, but that's why I said I tried to
do smith rock.
I did do Smith Rock, but, man,I just couldn't get warm.

(01:14:21):
The weather's fine and I do goto Prineville.
How about you do Misery Ridgeor Misery Hill with me?

Speaker 2 (01:14:32):
I feel like you might outrun me dude Distance-wise.

Speaker 1 (01:14:36):
We'll hike.
We'll hike not run.
Okay, okay.

Speaker 2 (01:14:40):
We'll hike.
We'll hike, not not run, okay, okay.

Speaker 1 (01:14:42):
Yeah, we can do that.

Speaker 2 (01:14:44):
So game on, I'm not a long distancer by by any means.
It's just pure to like, just tokeep my keep it up enough, you
know that's, that's a.

Speaker 1 (01:14:56):
That's a huge training ground.
Man, you can get some miles inyou can definitely get your
cardio.
There man the world like eliterunners, train there, you know,
you got to get a few of them andbend.
You know that's cool yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:15:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:15:14):
Yeah, quite a few of them been.
And every now and then when yougo to Smithrock you see him,
you're like oh man, this youknow, you know he's.
He's the big dog, you know,he's like tj yeah, you know,
mooney, you know, and yeah, dude, it's crazy, it's crazy that's
wild.
You know what else is crazy?
The fact that this podcast hasgotten a lot of the rodeo guys
running.
Really, yeah, that's good forthem.
Yeah, it's pretty cool, man.

(01:15:36):
It's pretty cool because Idon't know.
Man, the western world is a lotmore honest than the running
world.
I'm gonna tell you that.
And the love that I I get fromyou guys, man it.
There's nothing compared to itand the fact that I have the

(01:15:58):
western guys saying, hey, yougot me running, you know yeah
and then the run.
The psalm runners say oh, yougot me in, you know.
First first rodeo I should havedone this a long time ago, but
yeah not not too many people, but a lot of the rodeo guys say
hey, man, you got me running, Iwas in a funk, I I started
running and thank you.

(01:16:18):
You know it's pretty cool man.

Speaker 2 (01:16:20):
So yeah, really good for you.

Speaker 1 (01:16:23):
Yeah Well, it says the person that's not running.

Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
Yeah, I don't run.
I don't like to run.
I honestly I don't like running.
I just know it's good for meRight To get away from the bulls
.
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:16:34):
And I want to.

Speaker 2 (01:16:34):
I want to have a long career To get away from the
bulls, yeah, and I want to havea long career.
Yeah, and Jessie's there everystep of the way, right?
Yeah, she had to take a littlebreak because she had hurt her
knee, but she's back to runningnow.

Speaker 3 (01:16:53):
I'm so happy to be, back.
I like running Genuinely likerunning I've done a couple half
marathons, nothing longer thanthat, but yeah, um, that's, yeah
, one of my favorite ways to getoutside that and riding my
horse, so that's how I getoutdoors.

Speaker 2 (01:17:13):
I think our first date.
We went on like a three milewalk or something 2.75.

Speaker 3 (01:17:18):
Yeah, it was around a , there's a.
He took me to breakfast for ourfirst official date.
He drove four hours to take meto breakfast.
That was the first sign that Iknew I should give this guy, um,
a little bit of time and give alittle bit of a chance, because
he drove four hours forbreakfast and then he walked
around.
There's a golf course in oregoncity that has a track around it

(01:17:43):
and it's got a little bit ofeverything in it.
It's really fun.
I I went and ran it all thetime when I lived over there and
, yeah, we went on a big walkand he kept coming back.
So, yeah, I didn't scare himoff love at first sight.

Speaker 1 (01:17:59):
And now look at you guys, man, for four years, now
four four years yeah it's.

Speaker 3 (01:18:05):
Yeah, I'll be five in august.

Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
Yeah, yep oh yeah, the last time I talked to you
we're living in a fifth wheeland then we've bought a house.
Since then, we've been in thatfor two years yeah, see, time
flies, time flies.

Speaker 1 (01:18:19):
Hey, do you work the mutton busting?

Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
I mean, if they're out there, if I'll help a kid
get up, but there's not a wholelot I can really do.
No, no, I chase them and then,if the, when the kid falls off,
I pick them up and send them totheir parents.
That's about all I could do.
Do you do that, though?
Do you do that?
That's, it's pretty.
Oh, I chase them and then, ifthe when the kid falls off, I
pick them up and send them totheir parents.
That's about all I could do.

Speaker 1 (01:18:41):
Do you do that, though?
Do you do that?
That's, it's pretty cool watchthe, the big guys, the
bullfighters, you know, pickthese little kids up, you know.
Yeah, by their best yeah, areyou?

Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
that's fun.
It's fun when they, when theyride them clear across the arena

I've actually coached for quitea few years and he's finally
really hitting his stride anddoing well, and that kid has the
hardest work ethic I think I'veknown from anybody, um, and
it's cool to see him doing somecool things all right, I think

take them when they come, andthen just, and then just being
patient, letting, letting, letting God take over after that
, um, yeah, I mean, that's howit's how it's been for me for
