Speaker 1 (00:02):
So let's talk about
the overview of a GLP-1.
And a GLP-1 is called aglucagon-like peptide-1.
And it's a hormone that plays acrucial role in our overall
blood sugar regulation, appetitecontrol, digestion and
metabolism.
It is a acting-like hormonethat has gained significant
attention recently in metabolichealth, weight loss and diabetes
(00:25):
management.
Due to this ability.
It helps with enhancing insulinsecretion, suppressing glucagon
and promoting satai, which isyour appetite suppression, so
that way you're not wanting toeat as much.
Research has highlighted this.
Glp-1 receptor Agonistmedications mimic hormones, so
it is not a hormone but it willuptick the insulin hormone to
(00:49):
release, so there's less insulinresistance within the body and
other things.
It helps with type 2 diabetes, obesity and a range of issues in
the body, so anything fromcardiac issues to addiction
issues, overall liver, fattyliver and many more which we can
go over.
And there are ways that you canenhance this GLP-1 markers,
(01:14):
naturally with dietary, lifestyle and gut health
strategies, which we will goover and understanding this is
really important, you know.
It is why you know America andthe society has been
significantly around 85 to 90%obese, overweight or having some
sort of internal issues.
(01:34):
Um, it matters, it totally, totally matters.
So if you want to make change,um, and that's why you're here,
right, that's why you want toknow more.
So what is a GLP-1?
Um, glp-1 is a hormone, um, anecretin hormone produced by L
cells in the small intestines.
So that's, our body isnaturally producing a GLP-1.
(01:57):
These medications are peptidesto produce to be like this GLP-1
.
And, in response, is for foodintake.
So it's a messenger.
It goes to the gut, pancreas, the brain and other organs to
regulate blood sugar, appetiteand digestion.
When it's off or some part thegut, the pancreas, brain or
(02:19):
other organs are off your GLP-1will be off.
When you have, most of the timeit's insulin resistance or
obesity those will changeFunctions of GLP-1s.
They enhance insulin secretion.
So when it's at a really goodlevel, you're helping lower
blood sugar levels.
For meals, when it suppressesglucagon, which prevents
(02:42):
unnecessary glucose fromreleasing from the liver.
If you have too much sugar, youknow, and the liver is not
doing its job, it will helpsuppress that or at least
balance it wherever it needs.
It slows gastric emptying, which you'll notice when people
will get constipation issues.
That's its job.
It's trying to keep some thingsstaying in the stomach.
(03:03):
So you're fuller Now.
You'd want to combat that insome aspects is you still want
to eat, so we'll talk more aboutfoods and nutrition for these
medications.
Now, your cravings.
Obviously it does have a satay,so suppressing the appetite, it
does reduce your food cravings, your calorie intake.
And then it supports the gutmicrobiome because it helps with
(03:25):
regulating um, the amount ofbacteria and regulating
metabolism.
So you want to have like a lessdysbiosis.
Which dysbiosis is?
Um, the irregularity of the umamount, so the good and bad
flora within the body.
So you want to kind of preventthat.
And how do we do that?
We want to regulate this forthe jail, if you want.
So the reason why these thesehave been around since the 1980s
(03:45):
, but the way the research andthe way that these peptides have
been redone and patented isquite phenomenal.
And the changes that has comeout.
The research had just beenpublished since the 80s, and
then now there's numerous thingsabout the blood sugar control
and weight management thatGLP-1s have on the body.
(04:06):
Yeah, now what's this role andhow does this affect GLP-1 with
your metabolic health?
Metabolic health is defined asstable blood sugar, balancing
your hormones, efficientdigestion and optimal energy
levels.
How do you do that?
You know this is all by bloodsugar regulation.
You do that by stimulatinginsulin releasing.
(04:29):
When your glucose levels arehigh, you reduce glucagon
secretion by preventing excessglucose release.
You enhance insulin sensitivityby lowering the risk of insulin
resistance and diabetes.
Why does it matter?
Chronic high blood pressurelevels or hyper insulemia lead
to insulin resistance.
This is what's wrong with mostof society.
(04:49):
Not everybody has type twodiabetes, but everybody has a
lot of hyper high doses of hyperinsulin, which then will lead
to many chronic illness anduntil you combat that, you will
not be able to make change.
Mostly type two diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome.
(05:10):
Glp-1 helps post meal glucosespikes and promotes long-term
glycemic control.
Again, why is it important?
Appetite and weight management.
So with appetite and weightmanagement, increased satay
hormones, which is appetitesuppression and reduces hunger
and food cravings.
It slows down digestion, reducing your overeating and
(05:33):
your snacking, which then wouldreduce your calories.
That does not mean that youdon't eat.
It just means that we want tosee what you're putting into
your body and what you're makingEncourages fat loss without
muscle breakdown.
It does do this, especially ifyou have the right amount of
protein, and we'll talk aboutthat at another part of this
lecture.
Why does it matter?
(05:54):
When you have low GLP-1 levels, you tend to have increased
hunger, you have tend to havemore cravings.
You tend to have difficultylosing weight.
Boosting GLP-1 naturally throughmedications can improve this
weight loss success.
The medication is a tool.
They're not the full equation, but it has been very helpful.
There is some other changesthat happen in your hormones as
(06:16):
women and men age.
The research does show thatGLP-1 agonist and semiglutide
and terzapatide do help withlowering that daily calorie
intake and it's just a matter ofwhat you're putting into your
body, so it's not a one sizefits all.
Now, in reference to gut healthand the microbiome, um, I'm very
(06:37):
big on trying to talk abouthaving a balance of dysbiosis.
So not to have dysbiosis, whichmeans irregularity of the good
and bad, but trying to bring inthe good things.
So you're going to stimulategrowth of your gut bacteria, say
acromansia, which is a veryweight management probiotic in
(06:57):
the gut and it's usually in thecolon.
Increase short chain fattyacids production, which supports
metabolism.
That's what you put thosefibrous foods into your body.
That's what you put to help getrid of some of that excess,
reduce inflammation and gutpermeability.
Leaky gut syndrome.
So leaky gut has to do withwhen the lining from the mouth
(07:19):
all the way down to the anus insome manner has some sort of
irregularity or the junctionsare starting to kind of pull
apart.
Usually it's in the stomachthat's where it starts or in the
small intestines.
Why does the gut matter?
Why is it so important?
Because it is so critical inmedical health.
Metabolic health is so criticalin our health in general.
(07:42):
It is important to have goodgut health is the second immune
system, or gut health reducesGLP secretion and many other
things.
Poor gut health reduces GLPsecretion and many other things,
slows metabolism, causes weightgain, cortisol issues, other
health issues, and the researchdoes show that when you have
more enriched fiber, it doesenhance your GLP-1.
(08:03):
So when individuals ask mewhich GLP-1s and what probiotics
to use, I'm usually a fan ofcertain gut health ones like
acromantia or some, dependingupon the need of that patient or
that client.
And how is it effective forthose with type 2 diabetes?
It helps those with type 2diabetes or those preventing
(08:27):
those may be in metabolicsyndrome that would like to
prevent diabetes.
How does it do that?
It does that by lowering thesugar.
It reduces insulin resistance,it protects the beta cells of
the pancreas and it helps thosepre-diabetic patients not become
diabetic.
It helps in many aspects in theliver, lowering the A1C and um
(08:48):
it reduces it.
So initially these were usedjust for diabetic patients and
now used for weight managementand other health issues.
So they do work.
You know, um GLP ones workbecause they mimic the natural
hormone.
Now these medications workbecause they mimic the natural
hormone.
Now these medications workbecause they mimic the natural
hormone for real and they havebeen around since the 1980s Um.
But newer medications likesemiglutinin and terzapatide are
(09:09):
the most um used in, the mosteffective Um.
But there is also lutarotide um, trulicity Um.
There's many others and we cango over that if you have
additional questions.
What is the effect of the GLP-1medications?
It obviously affects the bloodsugar very strongly.
(09:30):
If you had a natural boostingsupplement it will help
moderately, like berberine.
Weight loss management is verysignificant.
If you're doing just nutritionand lifestyle, it's gradual, but
if you do them together they'revery significant.
If you're doing just nutritionand lifestyle, it's gradual, but
if you do them together they'rethey're very helpful.
And the side effects?
Obviously most clients havenausea, gi symptoms and
(09:55):
constipation.
Um and long-term solutions isyou may be medication dependent
or you might need microdosing oryou might have to fluctuate on
and off depending upon how yourlifestyle and management is, and
that is debatable.
But, like I said, it's a.
It's a not the full fix.
So natural ways are GOPboosting.
One is you're going to boost itwith more fiber, always more
(10:18):
fiber include protein andhealthy fats like eggs, nuts and
olive oil.
Exercise regularly that dependsupon the patient um, strength
training, aerobic exercise, walking um and such um.
And managing your stress in yoursleep is so important.
So seven to eight hours of sleepis a recommended run for each
person, and managing your stressdaily in wherever that is for
(10:39):
you, and learning techniques todo that between breathing,
cortisol imbalances and stressmanagement and I can go over
that at some other time if youneed additional resources and
making simple dietary andlifestyle management changes can
boost your body's natural GLP-1.
So imagine you're taking thesemedications, you're also trying
(10:59):
to boost your own GLP-1 andyou're getting to this perfect
kind of symbiotic relationshipand and using those medications
to to be the best version ofyourself.
And I can tell you it works, um, and it gives you weight loss,
appetite suppression, goodhealth, your hormones start to
become optimized and balanced, your blood sugar levels become
(11:20):
more controlled and you becomekind of like a powerhouse that
you'll be one.
Medications are, you know, bignow because they are working and
if you know what you need, it'spretty great.
And, um, there's going to besome worksheets and some extra
um quiz there, so make sure youreach out and if you have any
additional questions, please letme know.
Thanks so much.
