Adam (00:13):
Welcome to the mobile
armored podcast show the podcast
that transforms into a bullettrain name is Adam Moore
alongside my co host and bestfriend, PJ McNerney.
How's it going PJ?
PJ (00:26):
I'm good, man.
It's good to be like you saidbefore the pod, it's good to be
back in the saddle.
Adam (00:31):
It's be back in the
saddle.
We did take a week off everyone.
We apologize.
But PJ had some Irish dancing
PJ (00:39):
I did.
Adam (00:40):
to do.
The
PJ (00:47):
I have joined now.
I've done so far threeperformances of Irish dancing.
and when I, when I had donethat, I had only two rehearsals
at that point in time.
So I don't know if I shouldaward myself a Buddy Hawks award
because according to AncestryDNA, I am 97 percent Irish.
And so I think I was justtrusting basically into my
(01:09):
ancestral history and whiskey.
I
Adam (01:13):
2 percent is Mongolian.
It's a really odd mix.
PJ (01:17):
really wish it was because
like when I first did this whole
thing, like I was expectinglike, Oh, I'll find out all
these things about where I'mfrom.
It's no, you're from this partof Ireland.
And it was like Galway.
Adam (01:30):
Yeah.
PJ (01:31):
this, it was
Adam (01:32):
Oh,
PJ (01:36):
2 percent Wales and 1
percent like English or
something like that.
It's like, PJ, you're white, Ikind of disappointed.
Like I would just like, just alittle bit more than a ghostly
pale to my DNA.
Adam (01:51):
Afraid not.
Afraid not.
Well, we will see if we can postsome of the dancing on our
Mobile Armored podcast showInstagram.
PJ (01:59):
Oh, yeah, we'll do that.
Adam (02:00):
in the meantime, episode
28.
It's called Blackout.
Venom has a new vehicle calledBlackout, which is capable of
draining power supplies.
Indeed! Indeed! Indeed! it is.
We were talking about the uh,Pandapoo rating for this
episode.
PJ (02:17):
Yeah.
So it's a new rating.
Listen, folks if you've beenpaying attention, if you've been
listening in order, Lastepisode, we had an artist
rolling around in panda poo Thenbeing forced to make statues for
Miles and Co.
And that's, it's just awful.
Everything about it is awful.
So that is our, our, our hopefulnadir to all episodes of Masks.
(02:39):
So, The question is, Is thisepisode Pandapoo?
What do you think, Adam?
Adam (02:44):
I do not think it's
Pandapoo.
PJ (02:46):
I agree.
Adam (02:47):
I think we have avoided
the Pandapoo rating for this.
It's above Pandapoo.
But below, but far below Rotex.
PJ (02:55):
Most things are, though.
Adam (02:56):
Yeah.
PJ (02:57):
It's a hard bar to hit.
Adam (02:59):
Yeah.
Well, let's dive in, shall we?
We open on Mount Fuji.
So here's our second visit toJapan in the series so far that
train is racing by and it'sMatt, Scott and T Bob on board
in a first class cabin must bevery nice there.
Scott calls it Matt's train, which at first I said, yeah, of
(03:20):
course he has his own bullettrain.
But uh, it turns out Matt justinvested in it so we can create
our Own bullet trains here inthe U S.
So first of all, what Matt own?
And second, how's that bullettrain going in the U S Matt?
PJ (03:35):
here's my answers in
opposite order.
Adam (03:38):
Uh
PJ (03:38):
Believes he's got enough
money and lobbying power.
He's going to be able to breakthrough whatever legislation is
needed to bring that bullettrain to the U S he is sadly
wrong.
this is going to be one of the,big failures.
Like Matt does not like, thereare too many other interests
involved.
He's not getting
Adam (03:56):
Yeah.
PJ (03:57):
train in the U S
Adam (03:58):
Big rail has the has the
lobbying power to defeat the
bullet train.
PJ (04:03):
indeed.
And then that's gotta be one ofthe most highly investors in the
world.
Adam (04:09):
really is.
PJ (04:10):
Elon Musk, decided to model
his life on Matt trackers?
I'll have factories in Englandand I'll make boring machines
and, Vehicles that fly.
Adam (04:22):
And AI controlled
submarines.
And bullet trains.
I'm Matt didn't create theBlackout vehicle.
PJ (04:30):
It turns out that the guy
who made the bullet train is the
guy who created the blackoutvehicle.
And I got some theories aboutthis that I think make some
sense, actually.
Adam (04:42):
Well, meanwhile, speaking
of Blackout, a really cool
hovercraft vehicle, it's all inblack, crashes through the fence
of a power substation.
And these two robot arms comeout and start sucking the power
out of the substation.
PJ (04:55):
Yeah let's talk about this
hovercraft for a bit because it
is fucking cool looking
Adam (05:00):
Very
PJ (05:01):
it is like something out of
like Robotech
Adam (05:03):
Yeah.
Right Okay.
Uh huh Uh Huh.
Huh.
PJ (05:23):
a short circuit to the
ground.
So every bit of electricity isgoing into the vehicle itself.
Which is crazy.
if you wanted to try and makesure that everything went into
that vehicle, that actuallymakes sense, make it a
hovercraft,
Adam (05:39):
Right.
That's a lot of power right?
PJ (05:41):
it's a huge amount of power.
So this is engineering corner.
How much juice is this actuallyabsorbing and spoiler alert.
We're going to be absorbing allthe electricity of Tokyo and I
had to do some research and mathon this one, but like for a
medium sized city, which Tokyois not, it is way bigger, but
it's about day.
(06:02):
It takes about a gigawatt hourof energy per day.
Now a city like Tokyo or NewYork city probably pulls in
something closer to fivegigawatt hours.
But for the
Adam (06:14):
Uh
PJ (06:14):
Of some math right here,
let's just say it's two.
Adam (06:16):
right.
PJ (06:17):
Okay.
So what is the most, powerfulvehicle, like almost on the road
today?
And that's a Tesla Roadster twoit's second generation, which is
expected to have a 200 kilowatthour battery.
Blackout has an energy capacitythat is one million times the
(06:38):
most advanced modern electriccar, in around the same physical
space.
It's an incredible amount ofenergy density.
Adam (06:45):
Yeah.
PJ (06:46):
Yeah, now most of the time I
would be really quick to jump to
say Miles should be selling thisinstead, but I'm going to hold
that because I do have a workingtheory later on for how this
actually might make sense.
But I do have a side questionfor you because
Adam (07:01):
Uh Huh.
PJ (07:02):
Adam, is this vehicle manned
or unmanned?
Because it definitely has awindshield to
Adam (07:07):
I would not want to sit in
that vehicle.
PJ (07:11):
I get it.
I get it.
But like, do you think there's avenom henchman somewhere in
there?
Like some unnamed, like Bob orJoe or something like that.
Adam (07:20):
So what we will learn
later is this vehicle was
created to take power from onelocation and bring it to a place
where there is an electricalemergency.
Why do you design it to be soevil looking?
It is, it's like, It's a bad guyvehicle.
It's black, purple trim on it.
It does not look like a happy, like we're here to rescue you.
(07:41):
It here to kill you.
And like, if is someone in it,the person who, who comes out of
it would be some sort ofelectrical villain.
PJ (07:51):
Do you, here's a, here's a
question.
Do you think this was itsoriginal paint job?
Or do you think it was like somekind of like white or beige or
something like really neutraland soothing.
And then Miles is like, you knowwhat?
Painted something else.
Adam (08:06):
But it's still a pretty
menacing looking machine.
I think the vehicle blackout, there's a person called blackout
inside it, who is pure energy.
PJ (08:18):
Okay.
Adam (08:19):
well, we cut back to the
train and as the power is
getting sucked out of theregion, it's also getting sucked
out of the train as well, andeverything metal gets pulled to
the roof of the train, includingT Bob.
PJ (08:32):
Yeah.
So is like, it's like thewriters did like half a job in
terms of like understandingthis, because it is true.
If you run electrical currentthrough a piece of metal, you
generate a perpendicularmagnetic field.
Adam (08:47):
Mm hmm Yeah Yeah.
PJ (08:56):
do is that a bullet train is
made of an aluminum alloy,
aluminum is light and it'sstrong.
It's what a lot of electric carsare made of.
But aluminum itself is notmagnetic, and it's only weakly
attracted to magnets.
So there might be some sort ofiron or steel component to the
metal.
Adam (09:13):
Uh
PJ (09:21):
Generated by the short
circuit.
That's causing all the othermetals to become magnetic and
become attracted to whatever itis in that alloy.
Of course, this is probablygiving
Adam (09:32):
Okay.
PJ (09:32):
to everyone on that.
Train
Adam (09:34):
Yeah and it's also, it's
also giving you the writer's
defense fund award,
PJ (09:39):
I am totally like batting
for the writers on this one.
So like, I'm, I'm, I'vedefinitely getting the award on
this one.
Either way, it's pretty badengineering given how much it's
short circuited.
Adam (09:50):
another poor Matt Tracker
investment um because then the
train controls catch fire nolike, no way to that down.
train comes to a stop, T Bobfalls from the roof onto Scott.
How is Scott not severelyinjured by this?
T heavy.
PJ (10:09):
So he should have at least
have a broken leg,
Adam (10:12):
Yeah.
PJ (10:12):
we're to believe Adam that
so much of Scott's bones have
been replaced by metal already.
Adam (10:20):
that T bob is some sort of
super light aluminum alloy.
But I times that he's not that.
PJ (10:27):
he's not.
Adam (10:28):
Well, Matt Waltz is right
into the cockpit of the bullet
train and the engineers knowhim.
PJ (10:33):
Yeah,
Adam (10:34):
And we got a little Buddy
Hawks award for the bad Japanese
accent here.
But we've got more of thatcoming.
PJ (10:40):
it's actually stunning like
anyone who's not Bruce Sato like
is getting like a bad Japaneseaccent award and this is our
second time in Japan like we'veseen not awful Japanese accents
before outside of Bruce so thisis like a weird conundrum like
what the fuck guys
Adam (11:00):
Yeah, no, I know.
Uh, The engineers claim that thetrain is at fault for causing
the power outage.
So they're basically blaming thetrain for the big outage that
affected the area.
But Matt is going to prove astraight shooter.
And this is our first of so manydad jokes in this episode.
I think they have crammed moredad jokes into this episode of
(11:22):
Mask than any other.
The Mask, the dad joke densityin this episode is the highest
we've ever seen.
PJ (11:29):
the highest and it's spread
over everybody.
Like basically everyone has abad dad joke.
I really enjoy like, we'reseeing this, like.
continuation of a trait of Matt.
Adam (11:40):
hmm Yeah.
PJ (11:48):
the sub was like loose?
he wants to make sure that hisinvestments are working for him.
Adam (11:54):
That's my sub.
PJ (11:56):
That's my sub.
This is my bullet train.
Like
Adam (11:59):
I'm surprised the mask
logo isn't on the train.
Well, meanwhile, Venom ismeeting in an old hangar
somewhere where Miles christensthis new vehicle, Blackout, and
it turns out Miles Never paidthe Japanese inventor the two
million dollars for making it.
before we found out, I waswondering, what did he do to the
inventor?
PJ (12:19):
If he'd been smart, he
would've, Andy Tracker.
That guy may
Adam (12:23):
Yeah Yeah, why even
promise the guy, why not just
kill the inventor and take theweapon?
Maybe in case Blackout didn'twork, he wanted to return it?
PJ (12:32):
maybe what's great though,
actually, if we think about this
is that since he never paid themoney to the invest inventor he
didn't.
I don't think probably providedany materials except maybe one
thing to the inventor.
The inventor is out of pocketnow for whatever materials went
into Blackout.
Adam (12:51):
Yeah, don't worry,
whatever Matt invested in the
bullet train, I'm sure coversfor that.
PJ (12:58):
He redirected the funds
Adam (13:00):
Yeah.
PJ (13:01):
So Matt's inadvertently the
cause of Blackout.
Adam (13:03):
Yep, absolutely.
PJ (13:05):
Do you love it?
Like Miles sticks with thetheatrics with this naming?
Adam (13:09):
It's also kind of on the
nose though.
PJ (13:11):
another dad joke here, when
they talk about the inventor,
Cliff's like, guy sure got a yenfor money.
Get it?
Yen.
For.
Money.
Miles was like, we get it,knucklehead.
And you know what?
That is the FU that I'm hopingfor through a lot of the dad
jokes here.
And Sly has to think about it.
Adam (13:31):
He does.
He, he like really like chinlike, Hmm, yen.
PJ (13:37):
Would kids get these jokes,
man?
Adam (13:40):
I feel like rising
Japanese economy was big in
culture back then.
If you think of a movie likeGung Ho, for example.
PJ (13:48):
Oh
Adam (13:48):
So I wonder if as kids we
understood, we knew what the yen
was.
PJ (13:52):
Yeah.
That's a really good point.
Okay.
Adam (13:55):
maybe, maybe, or, you
know, I mean, it's a dad writing
this script.
So
PJ (14:01):
He's a dad with concern
about the rising yen.
Adam (14:05):
Well, we found out that
Blackout can also shoot a high
voltage blast destroying almostanything.
Um
PJ (14:11):
The scientists about that
one?
Adam (14:13):
doesn't seem the way it
was designed.
PJ (14:17):
It's like, I want to make
sure that I can deliver
electricity and destroy things.
Adam (14:23):
Uh, Miles reveals that
they need to get one more
collection of power.
And he says, and this one'sgoing to be a Miles Mayhem
Stinger special.
What the heck does that mean?
PJ (14:35):
I, I was wondering about
this.
Do you think, I was trying to, Iwas trying to justify it
somehow.
Do you think that the originalname of Blackout was Stinger,
then they changed it becausethey had a vehicle coming out
with that name?
Adam (14:47):
No, because in the same
episode he calls it blackout and
there's a stinger like it thelines are all there So I have no
idea what it's talking about astinger like, You know like a
cord used on a movie set But nowwe're really out in left field
here.
And a kid's going to understandwhat he's doing, unless like you
get stung when you getelectrocuted, it's like a sting,
(15:09):
but I don't know, man.
I don't know where he's comingfrom with this.
PJ (15:12):
It's weird.
It's like undeniably weird.
Adam (15:15):
Well, Matt, Scott and T
Bob are in Thunderhawk, just
kind of flying around.
And Scott asks them why they arecruising around.
And T Bob asks, yeah, what isthis, the fifties?
What the heck does that mean?
PJ (15:30):
Yeah.
This was like, a couple ofthings that occurred to me on
this one.
I thought the cruising joke waslike, Oh, it's cause cruising
was popular in the fifties.
Kind
Adam (15:39):
I would imagine that.
Why
PJ (15:42):
how bored is Scott now of
like being in a flying car?
That now it's so passe at thisfun and time.
Adam (15:51):
are we just flying around
in a Camaro, dad?
PJ (15:54):
Yeah.
I'm bored.
Adam (15:56):
But I mean, who this
episode, like Stinger and then
Cruising?
I mean, there are some jokes Ithink kids get.
I think there's others that kidswon't get.
Like grandpa write this episode?
PJ (16:06):
Yeah.
It's okay.
There some amazingly coolanimation and battle sequences
in this episode.
Adam (16:14):
Agreed.
PJ (16:15):
like that bit, like really
cool.
The dialogue interstitials hereare just like, Come on like,
stop it.
Adam (16:27):
they spot the substation
that Blackout attacked and they
see the fire department puttingout the fire and.
Now, Matt reveals that thebullet train isn't the only
reason they came to Japan.
He says Venom's in the area.
So first of all, we got a Fatherof the Year nominee right here.
(16:48):
Bringing your child to alocation where a terrorist
organization is known to beworking.
Yet again.
But also, is Matt timing theinvestment in the bullet train
to his investigation of Venom?
Like Is it always a coincidencethat Matt is like, well, Venom's
in the area and the bullet trainI funded happens to be going on
(17:10):
its inaugural run.
I guess I'll go there with myson.
PJ (17:14):
I was wondering about this
and again, I feel like I'm going
to a star for the defense awardfund this time.
I was wondering if Matt thoughtthis was actually a boondoggle.
It was like, ah, you know what?
It's I've gotten some Intel.
They might be there, but it'sprobably like some BS stuff.
So I'll bring, and I want to domy bullet train.
let's just check it out.
This will all go solo.
(17:35):
And I'll take my kids cause it'sprobably be fine.
I don't know.
Like it's I'm that one's areach.
That one's a reach, man.
Adam (17:42):
It really is.
meanwhile, Blackout is at itagain.
It sucks all the power out ofthe airport.
PJ (17:49):
Yeah.
Now this was like, felt like alot of terrorist cruelty here.
Adam (17:54):
Mm hmm
PJ (17:55):
At causing a lot of planes
to crash.
Adam (17:58):
Yeah,
PJ (17:59):
Venom is earning its
terrorist title this time
around.
They're out for blood.
Adam (18:04):
Thunderhawk is flying to
the airport, and off in the
distance they see the glow fromBlackout sucking out the power.
And Matt says, either they'remaking a Japanese monster movie
down there, or I need my visionThunderbolts.
info Or Matt, maybe there's athird possibility.
PJ (18:23):
yeah, I agree, it was a
little bit of a flirt for me
with the Buddy Hawks award.
it's like, you know, my visionis wrong, or it's a monster
movie.
are known for that.
Adam (18:34):
or it's blackout.
PJ (18:36):
It's just like that thing
you're after.
So the control tower tells allthe planes that they need to
circle in the air because areyou losing power?
immediate thought was, this isthe plot from die hard to five
years before die hard to
Adam (18:50):
It turns out that this
show has inspired so many films
and entrepreneurs past 40 years.
It's crazy.
PJ (19:01):
it really is actually like
we're, it's we've got AI, we've
got
Adam (19:05):
Yeah, yep Yeah, well Matt
spots Switchblade in the sky.
Venom! He sends Scott and T Bobto go hide in a hangar while he
masks up and races towards thepower substation.
PJ (19:21):
he's got a line in here
where he's like, so now they're
in the utility business.
Huh?
Like again, kids,
Adam (19:29):
other line in this episode
is a dad joke.
PJ (19:33):
Oh yeah.
Up until like really soon, it'slike, it's kind of dad, it's
jokey all the time and thestakes are played for laughs.
Adam (19:42):
Yeah.
PJ (19:43):
And now Scott and T Bob are
just in some random hangar.
Adam (19:46):
it turns out, it is a
pretty safe place for them to
be, considering what's about tohappen to uh to Thunderhawk.
So Miles does spot Thunderhawk, and he says, What a shocking
surprise to see you, Mask.
Hope you're feeling energetic.
Hug Hug.
PJ (20:01):
is doing it.
This episode.
Adam (20:03):
And uh, we have a
Thunderhawk versus Blackout land
battle, which is odd becauseThunderhawk can fly and Blackout
can't.
PJ (20:11):
Yep.
Adam (20:12):
But, okay Um, And then
during this chase is an oil
tanker that gets flipped over.
T Bob and Scott are watchingthis all from a top, some oil
barrels outside the hangar andthen blackout hits Thunderhawk
causing it to flip over, butsomehow Matt survives.
So we've got a Slyrax ragdollaward nomination right here.
PJ (20:33):
Yeah, I mean it's dramatic.
Everything in this sequence isdramatic cause like Thunderhawk
is outgunned.
It's got Blackhawk andSwitchblade on its tail.
and they do some real damage toit.
I really enjoyed them knockingover that oil tanker,
Adam (20:52):
Yeah.
PJ (20:52):
definitely manned.
They show a
Adam (20:54):
Oh, there's a guy in
there.
PJ (20:56):
yeah, he is frightened, and
like my first thought when it
turned over was, is he dead now?
Adam (21:02):
Yeah, so add to the body
count right now.
then T Bob, he falls down thestack of oil drums that he and
Scott are standing on, and hegoes unconscious.
Like, how is that possible?
He's a robot.
PJ (21:15):
I mean it was like, unless
Scott was fucked with his
circuits enough.
It's like too many times there'ssomething rattled inside of him.
Adam (21:22):
Yeah.
PJ (21:23):
I thought a better play
would have been either to have a
laser, sorry, have T Bob be hitby a laser,
Adam (21:28):
Yeah.
PJ (21:29):
have his energy be sucked
out somehow by Blackout, like
Adam (21:32):
Yeah.
Well, that would have been goodwriting.
PJ (21:34):
that is true, huh?
T Hawk's fucked up, man.
They got this great shot of itcompletely upside down
Adam (21:41):
I'm,
PJ (21:41):
open.
Adam (21:42):
wings open, it's upside
down, the windshield is cracked,
the headlights are cracked uh,survives, somehow, but yeah,
Thunderhawk is, is messed up, itseems out of commission.
Which is a few moments.
Matt tries spectrum laser onBlackout, it just sucks up the
power.
Then Blackout shoots at Matt, sending him flying.
PJ (22:05):
Yes.
Adam (22:06):
is a major ragdoll
nomination.
He got hit with, I don't knowhow many kilowatts of
electricity.
And he went flying and wentunconscious.
PJ (22:16):
It is some really cool stuff
happening here.
First off, like when you fire aspectrum laser, if you actually
watch it, the laser arcs.
To the collection point, whichkind of implies there's some
sort of like semi sphericalelectric field around it that is
drawing the power in, which iscool.
Adam (22:34):
Yeah.
PJ (22:35):
then that laser blast, man,
he is flying through the air.
Adam (22:40):
No, he's, he's dead.
PJ (22:41):
And again, like joking this
aside, if you look at kind of
the substance that's here, likevenom shut down an airport
threatening, like who many, howmany?
Thousands of lives and they werelike, up mad.
Adam (22:56):
Yeah.
PJ (22:57):
they're a credible threat
again.
Adam (22:58):
And Matt is outnumbered,
outgunned.
And he's getting beaten by, byVenom here.
So yeah, no, you're absolutelyright.
I mean, Venom has ratcheted upthe tension.
No more vacuuming up change fromthe floor of a for Venom.
They're back on top.
PJ (23:15):
Comically, we never get a
threat from them to the country.
So
Adam (23:20):
that's true.
PJ (23:21):
we don't precisely know if
they wanted to go to one of
Tokyo's casinos and use blackoutso they can repeat their
vacuuming
Adam (23:28):
You make a really great
point.
They have the threat, but theydo not have the threat.
What they're looking for.
a terrorist I HAVE A BOMB! And?
That's all.
PJ (23:43):
I have it.
I'm going to use it.
What do you want?
I've given you my demands.
He's done that in Japan before,so I'm
Adam (23:51):
He has.
PJ (23:52):
If it's like a cultural
thing or it's like he keeps
forgetting.
Adam (23:55):
He's too polite to let
them know.
This culture.
PJ (24:02):
They're freaking out.
Adam (24:03):
They'll just offer
something.
Well, Miles says, Sweet dreams,Mask.
Let's go, Blackout.
Your performance has given me areal charge.
it.
Stop
PJ (24:14):
Just you keep undercutting
like the severity miles of and
the weight of what you're doing.
We want to give you more credit, but you're not helping it.
Okay.
did you think that miles thoughtthat Matt obviously would think
of him as the mask leader wasdead.
mean, I, is that why he doesn'tfire a few missiles to like.
(24:36):
Finish him off because I couldbuy it.
Adam (24:38):
Yeah, the guy got hit with
like a gigawatt of electricity.
PJ (24:42):
Yeah.
Adam (24:43):
He's dead.
mean, and Miles takes it prettychill.
He's like, sweet dreams, mask.
Like that's
PJ (24:49):
He
Adam (24:50):
He's not like yes, I
finally did it.
He's like, yeah, let's go.
Makes a joke and gets out ofthere.
Ice cold, Miles.
You got your mojo back.
Look, it's a real nightmaresituation out there.
We got Matt unconscious,Thunderhawk is destroyed, now
the flipped over oil tankerstarts leaking out, and a fire
breaks out, and the oil slick isheaded towards Matt.
(25:12):
T appears to be dead.
Scott is freaking out.
His dad's about to get burnedalive.
it's Over.
PJ (25:19):
Yeah.
There's some real stakes rightnow.
And this moment from theperspective of Scott is
undeniably scary.
Adam (25:26):
Yeah.
PJ (25:27):
it's a really scary moment.
Adam (25:28):
Yeah.
PJ (25:29):
about to die.
His robot's out of commission.
Adam (25:32):
Yeah.
Trauma.
He's psychiatrist yet again, butPJ, I got to ask you the
question, what's happen?
PJ (25:41):
I don't know.
I don't know.
Adam (25:45):
We'll find out after these
messages.
Come on, Jeebop.
Mask will be right back.
Oh, boy.
Back to mask.
And we're back.
When we left you, Scott was in afull on panic attack.
I mean, things are really, really bad.
His dad's about to get burnedalive right before his eyes.
His idiotic robot is no longerfunctioning.
(26:06):
And uh, I mean, I guess there'sat least the money he'll
inherit.
PJ (26:11):
He and Gloria are going to
inherit a lot of money
Adam (26:13):
Very true.
Scott digs around inside T Bob'shead, gets him to wake up,
transforms into scooter mode, and they go out and rescue Matt.
PJ (26:23):
Scott has very few dad
jokes, but I actually thought
this was a great line tomotivate it.
Cuz he says dad's too heavy forme to pull away from the fire
and it's like yeah, that's okayThat's a really good motivator
Like that's the reason you needt bob and then they do some
honest to goodness Heroics likeof pulling him right because
(26:45):
they could die too.
Adam (26:46):
Right.
No, they pull him like about twofeet away from the getting to
him.
PJ (26:51):
did you notice that Matt
didn't really thank them?
Adam (26:53):
Ha.
PJ (26:55):
he gets is this exchange
where T Bob's like, I'm either
really weak or you are reallyheavy.
Scott basically is like, maybeyou need to start a workout
program.
And Matt says, he's already aheavyweight in my book.
And there's just like thesesmiles and moment of silence,
Adam (27:11):
Well, yeah, I mean, first
of all, how about thanks for
saving my life, and two, atleast a little recognition of T
Bob, not a single recognition ofhis son,
PJ (27:19):
I know! I
Adam (27:21):
everything to save his
life.
PJ (27:23):
mean, in theory, T Bob could
have survived the fire.
But not Scott!
Adam (27:27):
Despite Thunderhawk being
basically destroyed, Matt is
able to use the computer toassemble a mask team.
So here are the agents.
We get Alex Sector, and we learnfrom the computer that his
planning abilities will beintegral to the operation.
Okay.
Bruce Sato, whose designcapabilities.
(27:49):
Could come into play.
Okay.
We have Gloria Baker, championrace driver, black belt in kung
fu, team hottie, and Matt'swife.
Excellent driving abilitiesnecessary.
Should we see if any of thoseskills come into play?
PJ (28:04):
Yeah, let's do a grading of
this one again.
I like these accents.
I
Adam (28:09):
Mm
PJ (28:09):
Of fun, but I do feel like
they feel checkoff gun like,
like you have to pay it off
Adam (28:16):
So the mask jet lands in
Tokyo.
Uh, Might as well get a traveltime check here.
PJ (28:20):
It's about 12 hours as
Adam (28:22):
hmm
PJ (28:22):
Flight from Denver to Tokyo.
So it's, and when you see itland, it's during the day and we
just saw blackout at night.
So
Adam (28:30):
Yeah,
PJ (28:31):
it's plausible.
It got there, at the next
Adam (28:34):
yeah.
All right.
Good job, mask.
Thunderhawk rolls up to meet thejet.
How in the world is Thunderhawkstill drivable?
I
PJ (28:44):
Scott, remember that time
you had to put Thunderhawk back
together after I destroyed it inSolaria park, Time to put those
skills to good use again.
boy, dad, I'm ready.
Adam (28:55):
mean, I guess they had 12
hours to work on it.
PJ (28:58):
That earlier lesson we've
had where it's like, don't build
electronics, like with thatrobot thing,
Adam (29:03):
Yeah,
PJ (29:03):
know that's to be bullshit
because we see it and over
again.
Adam (29:09):
right.
PJ (29:10):
also it probably means Scott
was hopped up on some kind of
upper all night long in order toget this vehicle.
Ready.
Adam (29:17):
Matt was just pouring
Mountain Dew into him.
PJ (29:21):
Mountain Dew and cocaine.
Adam (29:23):
Well the team goes to
visit the inventor who also
worked on the bullet train, wepointed out earlier, the guy the
bullet train also createdBlackout.
This guy's accent.
insultingly bad.
is a major BuddyHawks nomination
PJ (29:41):
I was so shocked when I
first heard
Adam (29:44):
Yeah,
PJ (29:44):
this voice was.
Adam (29:45):
yes.
PJ (29:46):
And I know it's trying to
distinguish itself from Bruce.
But I mean, I was like, wow didthey hire Micka Rooney from?
Breakfast at Tiffany's,
Adam (29:54):
Yeah,
PJ (29:54):
that level of just
outlandish,
Adam (29:57):
it's so bad.
It is so, so bad.
PJ (30:00):
In this sequence, they do
manage to ask and answer the
question, how can it be used forgood?
Which I actually thought was agood question to ask because
you're right.
It seems like a really just Evilvehicle.
Adam (30:13):
Right.
And as we said, the originalpurpose was to draw electricity
from one source and deliver itsomewhere else where there's an
electrical emergency, right?
Like I don't know.
How about a uh, a tsunami takesout a nuclear power plant.
But like a dozen other ways todo this.
Like you don't need to a reallyevil looking vehicle that sucks
power out of the power grid.
Mm hmm Yeah.
(30:38):
Mm hmm Mm hmm Yeah.
PJ (30:53):
And again, writer's defense
award winner today we know that
mask and venom vehicles are ableto do really incredible things
like have a Camaro fly.
And last episode, we saw bothManta and Thunderhawk make the
flight from Beijing to EasterIsland, and we know there's an
exotic power source that is inboth the vehicles and the mask,
(31:15):
and we see the masks get chargedin the star chamber, which
implies it's like very compactand powerful and energy
efficient.
So I was wondering, what if thetech for the energy storage on
the vehicle is actually what'sused for blackout?
Like this is actually thescientist didn't invent that,
Adam (31:34):
Okay.
PJ (31:35):
was basically given that by
venom and it's still sort of
military grade or beyond
Adam (31:40):
Okay.
PJ (31:41):
grade.
So that's why it's under wrap.
So
Adam (31:43):
Okay, I'll go with you.
PJ (31:44):
so then it's like, what was
the scientist actually working
on then?
And then I was maybe thescientist.
on the charging equipmentnecessary to make it fast enough
to work with that energy storagesystem.
Adam (31:56):
All right.
I'm still with you.
Okay Okay.
PJ (32:07):
all this, why is Matt
Tracker then stopping the
creation of the electric car?
We now investigate his BoulderHill holdings?
Adam (32:16):
Huh.
PJ (32:17):
he have oil interests
because he runs a gas station?
Or is this all just militarygrade equipment that, we can't
let out there?
Adam (32:24):
Yeah, well, I would
imagine that Matt has
investments all over the place.
I mean, we can go way back tothat episode video Venom, where
Venom was going to destroy anoil refinery.
That was probably Matt's oilrefinery.
PJ (32:34):
A good point!
Adam (32:36):
Yeah, Matt's got his hands
in everything.
Matt, and from another, inanother world, Matt is a
supervillain.
PJ (32:43):
Yeah! Venom is actually the
rebellion against him.
Adam (32:46):
There you go.
We've cracked this wide open.
PJ (32:52):
was one detail that they
missed, though, in terms of
questioning?
Adam (32:55):
Yeah, didn't mention
anything out a high voltage
blast or blackout.
how is that supposed to help inan emergency?
In case there's a panic, takepeople out.
PJ (33:07):
Crowd control.
Adam (33:09):
So the inventor says, like
believes his father, the man
said he was going to pay me twomillion for building the
machine.
Instead, he stole it.
I mean, it just I just gottalike, it's pretty suspicious.
Some dude in a military uniformwalks in and says, Hey, that's
cool.
I'll pay you two million dollarsfor it.
Oh, great.
(33:29):
I'll pay you later.
Here's my card.
It says Matt Tracker it
PJ (33:38):
so I was wondering are we to
believe this?
Like he says, like a manbelieves his father, did this
scientist transfer some of hislatent paternal trauma and
feelings to miles mayhem?
Adam (33:50):
This guy's just bouncing
back and forth between Miles and
Matt as a father figure.
PJ (33:53):
This really is.
Maybe that's why Matt has somesympathy for him because of his
own conflicted feelings towardsMiles.
Adam (33:59):
I would also like to point
out that the M.
A.
S.
team is there, it's Matt,Gloria, Bruce, and Alex.
But Scott and T Bob are alsothere.
What are they doing there?
Send them to the hotel.
PJ (34:10):
It's a hotel out of power.
Adam (34:12):
Send them to the hotel!
Who cares?
PJ (34:17):
Just drive all the way
there, Scott.
Adam (34:19):
Yeah, just figure it out,
man.
Plug T into the TV and watchsome Japanese game shows.
PJ (34:25):
Scott, you're used to both
being in a foreign country
alone, as well, for which you donot speak the language as well
as riding T Bob out in the open.
Adam (34:34):
be fine.
So Alex asks if there's any wayto shut Blackout down.
And the inventor says, it wouldbe like short circuiting the
sun.
invention is a single mindedshark in a sea of plenty.
So we've a pretty sadoism here, but also what in the world has
he created?
(34:54):
be like short circuiting thesun.
PJ (34:57):
It's such a moment of like,
is this like this guy is
mistranslating it or like whatdid you create for 2 million,
sir?
Adam (35:06):
Yeah, I mean, also, or is
it just hubris?
Uh, I think we'll figure a wayto do it, because by the way,
they short circuit it with T Boblater on, so.
PJ (35:14):
true.
It's really true.
Adam (35:16):
hears that sadoism, and he
one ups him, and says, For every
poison, there is an antidote.
And I think if we left these twoguys alone, be just going back
and forth all day.
PJ (35:28):
I know I was wondering like,
is this like just their
characters?
Like they just want to one uplike, Hey, this is my really
cool saying.
or how much is this the writersbeing racist again, in terms of
thinking like, this is howpeople in Japan speak to each
other.
They speak in Coen's all thetime,
Adam (35:46):
So they realized that if
they can overload blackout
circuits, they can defeat it.
And Bruce just gets to one upthe inventor here and says, and
when giants meet a storm willfollow,
PJ (35:58):
which is weird.
Okay.
I mean, It's, it is like, atfirst glance, it feels like, Oh
well, this makes a lot of sense.
But then if you think about it,it's like, wait, what?
Adam (36:08):
huh?
Giants and storm.
Yeah.
I picture dropping the micthough, when he says it, it's
like a storm will follow Mikedrop middle finger to the
inventor.
And he walks out.
Well, Matt says that they'regonna make their own high
voltage machine.
That could be an electrifyingexperience.
(36:28):
And it's nice to see Gloriagetting in on the dad jokes
there.
PJ (36:31):
I felt like this was
evidence that Gloria is starting
to lean into a role as Scott'smother making shitty jokes.
Adam (36:38):
Yeah.
PJ (36:39):
also, is this her only line
in the episode?
Adam (36:42):
is her only line in the
episode.
Come on, Gloria.
PJ (36:46):
come on, writers.
Adam (36:48):
Well, Matt says that he
and Alex have a plan called
Operation Horseshoe.
The plan is for Rhino, Shark, and Thunderhawk to fire
electrical impulses towards TBob and use him as an electrical
conductor.
How is that not going to destroyT Bob?
PJ (37:07):
I mean, I'm wondering if
Matt has a side goal here of
maybe destroying T Bob.
Of just like, all right twobirds with one stone
Adam (37:18):
I mean, if you think of I
guess it's the easiest
collateral damage they have.
It's like, well, I don't want towaste one of the vehicles and I
can't use my son as anelectrical conductor, but I Bob.
I mean, if the plan blows up,what have we really lost?
PJ (37:37):
Guess if you believe that T
Bobs got to the same sort of
storage capacity as thevehicles, then maybe?
Adam (37:44):
Keep on trying to defend
those riders.
PJ (37:46):
I know, I know, I feel like,
you know, I've went I've, I've
went whole into big masks BigKenner.
Adam (37:53):
Meanwhile, Venom is on its
way with Blackout to another
power station.
And Miles says.
I'm glad I have a front row seatfor this light show and enough
with the dad jokes guys Come on.
PJ (38:07):
this episode would be ten
times better if you stripped
every dad joke out of it.
like it, every single time itjust undercuts the threat
there's a credible threat there,like it's actually a fun,
credible threat, but everysingle time one of these dad
jokes goes in, just take it out.
Adam (38:24):
anyways, Alex makes some
modifications to T Bob and Scott
assures T Bob they should trustMatt Should they though?
PJ (38:31):
it feels very sketchy to me.
This definitely again, it's likethat maybe should have gotten
one more vehicle in there.
Adam (38:38):
Yeah
PJ (38:39):
And then Rhino probably
would have been the best one for
the center.
But now, Alex has made whatevermodifications to magnify
electricity threefold through TBob
Adam (38:51):
Yeah,
PJ (38:52):
and Scott makes the David
and Goliath comparison.
Adam (38:55):
I guess we're, we're
approaching biblical times here
for T So he's getting very, veryreflective here.
Well, Matt that Tokyo's power isbeing drained.
And so it's time to take off forTokyo.
And Matt says, let's shed alittle light on the subject.
And then Gloria strangled Mattfor the dad jokes, and Matt is
(39:17):
dead.
Well, Tokyo's power goes out,Mask shows up, and Matt says,
Start the horseshoe, and we gointo our final Mask Venom battle
of the episode.
Blackout gets a few shots offbut I guess the Mask vehicles
have lightning rods now?
PJ (39:33):
so it's interesting because
the mask vehicles aren't totally
fucked up now, they're able to
Adam (39:38):
Yeah.
PJ (39:38):
power, but it knocks them
around.
So, I mean,
Adam (39:41):
Yeah.
PJ (39:41):
it actually is kind of a
nice balance between deus ex
machina technology and likebeing destroyed.
So it's like,
Adam (39:48):
Yeah.
PJ (39:49):
we can stay in the fight.
Adam (39:50):
Right.
Piranha fires a missile atThunderhawk, but Matt uses
Spectrum Deus Ex Helmet andsends the missile back towards
Piranha.
PJ (40:01):
Sly has got this crazy line
in there.
It's not even a dad joke, but hesaid, I sent it first class, but
you sent it, but you come backto me Parcel post.
And it was like, again, like
Adam (40:13):
What?
PJ (40:14):
wasn't even a dad joke.
That was just weird.
Adam (40:16):
Rhino sends a laser blast
from Jackhammer back towards
Jackhammer, blowing out itstire.
We have a cool shark manta faceoff.
Gloria fires two missiles.
Thanks.
With such precision, that theylodge themselves in Manta's
headlights and sends the cardriving backwards.
wild one, Gloria is a crackshot, so I deny that.
(40:40):
But why don't the missiles justblow up Manta?
PJ (40:42):
So I think this is so we've
seen this constantly.
Gloria loves to show how badassshe is.
And she wants an audience.
So she uses her crack shotskills, which, again, she's got
like, the theatrics in her aswell.
And she wants Vanessa to know.
Yeah, I'm fucking badass,
Adam (41:02):
I could blow you up, but I
In fact, so what happens is,
Manta goes flying back intoJackhammer, flips over, lands
upside down on top ofJackhammer.
And assuming Vanessa survivesThat's a major Sly Rax ragdoll
nomination right there.
PJ (41:20):
it is.
It really is.
Yeah,
Adam (41:23):
forms the horseshoe.
They turn on their energyabsorbers.
So now they have lightning rodsand energy absorbers.
T Bob's turn to shine.
He runs out into of thehorseshoe.
They fire their energy bolts atT Bob, who kind of like claps
his hands in front of him theyconduct the energy and he fires
(41:45):
it out at Blackout, destroyingit.
And, kind of cool, right?
hear the from the Transformers
PJ (41:54):
I, here's the thing.
And if people, and assuming thisuh, goes out intact, I did hear
the touch, but because this isthe low rent version of it, I
did hear the boogie nights.
Yeah.
mark Wahlberg, Marky Mark'sversion of the touch from that
movie.
So it was definitely kind ofmore the low re version, but I
(42:15):
did notice like V like T Bob'seyes are pretty mean.
Like he's like in it to win it.
Like he's got, like he's got theface, he's got the eye of the
tiger.
Adam (42:23):
He really does.
He's gone Roy Batty in thatmoment.
PJ (42:27):
has.
Adam (42:28):
mean, I guess, though, I
mean, was T Bob really necessary
in this operation?
Couldn't they have just firedtheir three lightning bolts at
Blackout all at the same time?
PJ (42:40):
Yeah, they totally could
have.
They try to justify it with thatline that T Bob has the ability
to magnify the energy bythreefold, which is however that
happens.
I mean, Think it was basicallylike, we want to have like a
fun, we want this set piece.
of seeing T Bob basically firean energy blast?
Is it necessary?
Absolutely not.
(43:01):
I do want to revisit thatquestion from earlier, though.
Adam (43:03):
Huh.
PJ (43:04):
Is there someone inside that
thing?
Because they did now.
Adam (43:08):
are dead.
I mean, there a scrap ofblackout left after the
explosion.
PJ (43:14):
Yes.
Adam (43:15):
It's like vaporized,
PJ (43:16):
Yeah.
Hey, if you were Miles Mayhem, would you start to pay attention
to this robot, this egg shapedrobot that keeps foiling your
plans?
Because he did have an up closeand personal experience back in
Cold Fever, and he clearly sawhim.
Adam (43:29):
I think he definitely has
some cognitive decline.
Well, Venom escapes and Milessays, this isn't lights out for
me.
So he goes ahead and he Leavesone last dad joke behind like a
piece of panda poo as he offinto the night.
(43:49):
Thank you, Venom.
PJ (43:51):
Yeah.
Adam (43:52):
Uh, um, You know, it's
just kind of smiles and a very
long overhead shot
PJ (43:59):
Yeah.
Adam (44:00):
the episode is like 10
seconds short.
So they just extend the shot andit's a very slow
PJ (44:07):
Yeah.
I noticed that too.
Adam (44:09):
So, let's look Shall grade
the team based why the computer
selected them?
PJ (44:13):
let's do it.
Adam (44:14):
Okay.
PJ (44:15):
Alex, how did his planning
skills help the operations?
Adam (44:19):
They uh, they planned a
horseshoe.
PJ (44:22):
Okay.
I guess that works.
Bruce was called upon because ofhis design skills.
So what did he design here?
Adam (44:33):
He designed some really
good Sado isms.
PJ (44:36):
Where most of his lines
really just went upping the
scientist.
Adam (44:40):
Yeah, I mean, you would
have thought that he would have
designed Like the engineeringfor the horseshoe operation,
PJ (44:48):
Yeah.
Adam (44:49):
but no, nothing.
PJ (44:50):
Okay.
Adam (44:51):
Gloria was uh, what
driving skills needed.
PJ (44:54):
Yes.
She did drive her car.
Adam (44:57):
drove her car.
Well done, Gloria.
PJ (45:00):
those missiles to say F you
Vanessa.
Also she's married to Matt, so
Adam (45:05):
given one line.
Anyways, that's the episode.
The more you know moment Scottand T Bob are riding around in
scooter mode and they're talkingabout Sunday drives and things
like that.
And then suddenly, two kids rideby on a bike.
One kid's riding on thehandlebars.
They hit a rock and the kidsfall off the bike.
(45:26):
And Scott says, You should neverride two on a bike.
In the most smug way, You I'veever heard come out of Scott,
like he's so uppity in thatmoment.
PJ (45:36):
He really is.
And like, like the thought Ihad, because like, I, I think
Scott and us forget the factthat he is the son of a
billionaire.
And he is saying this to twokids who like, there's no kids
in the same economic bracket ashim,
Adam (45:52):
anywhere in the world.
PJ (45:53):
but the kids who are going
to be riding two on a bike,
aren't in a high economicbracket.
So I just really felt like hewas like, this is a class moment
for him.
Adam (46:03):
really was.
PJ (46:04):
And like those kids would be
like fuck you.
Not all of us can afford to haveour own scooter.
Rich kid, our own robot scooter.
Yeah.
Adam (46:12):
One is I believe one of
the kids was wearing a helmet,
which is new the eighties andthey've already done this lesson
before.
Haven't they?
With T Bob, wasn't T Bob ridingon the front a and he fell off.
PJ (46:25):
Yeah.
I think, and Matt got reallyfucking pissed.
Adam (46:28):
He got really pissed.
PJ (46:29):
So I wonder if like the real
lesson here is.
Don't be a dick if you have moremoney than other kids.
I feel like that's actually, ifit's a repeat, let's say, can we
dig something else out of this?
Cause he's a dick to these kids
Adam (46:44):
I think the lesson is be a
dick because Scott like rides
off into the sunset and theseare injured on the ground.
PJ (46:55):
in the middle of the street.
Adam (46:56):
So the lesson is kids be
rich, afford your own bike.
right.
take a look at our The BuddyHawks award.
PJ (47:06):
Oh man.
Whomever voiced the Japanesescientist, I
Adam (47:10):
Yeah.
PJ (47:10):
and pretty much everyone
else that isn't Bruce Sato.
I, Oh.
Adam (47:16):
Yeah.
So unnecessary.
Father of the year award.
PJ (47:21):
there's a lot of stuff here.
You could have Matt taking hisson into danger multiple times.
You could have basically Mattnot thanking his son for saving
his life.
I thought it was making hisson's only and best friend.
And Manny, part in a highlyrisky maneuver that's likely to
fry at circuits.
Adam (47:42):
Yeah, I agree with that
one and just the, just bringing
your son to a known terroristlocation again.
PJ (47:51):
Again,
Adam (47:52):
I mean, you've got a giant
mansion.
Just leave them there.
So anyways,
PJ (47:57):
an indication of this like,
you know, Gloria is like, no, I
don't want to watch him whileyou
Adam (48:02):
yeah,
PJ (48:02):
some adventure in Japan.
Either, either take us alltogether or take him yourself.
Adam (48:11):
That's, that's a great
What was Gloria doing all this
time?
PJ (48:17):
We never see any of these
cutscenes for them leaving.
Adam (48:20):
Oh yeah.
What was she, she was shopping
PJ (48:23):
I don't
Adam (48:23):
or whatever.
Well the Sly Rax Ragdoll Award.
What's there's so manynominations this episode.
PJ (48:31):
many nominations, man.
I mean, We had, we just had thatgreat one with Vanessa.
Adam (48:35):
Huh.
PJ (48:36):
a minor one of T Bob.
I thought Matt getting fucked
Adam (48:38):
Yeah.
PJ (48:39):
blackout though.
That was a hardcore moment.
Adam (48:42):
Yeah.
No, there were, it was twice ina row.
One is Thunderhawk getscompletely ruined and is upside
down and he crawls out of it andthen gets hit by, you know,
hundreds of kilowatts of energyMatt's dead.
He is, he is dead.
R.
I.
P.
Matt.
We will see you next episode.
So yeah, so I guess uh,Pandapoo.
(49:03):
Not Pandapoo, entirely.
No.
PJ (49:12):
I think it's Venom's on
track again, like they're
becoming credible, still wouldlove to see them threatened to
find out what they wanted, asransom and whatnot.
I think if you had dialogue, that was not everyone making a
dad joke every time this wouldhave been a good episode
(49:33):
bordering on great like it'sgreat animation.
there's some real crediblethreats that are there.
Like what damages it is thedialogue is shit.
Adam (49:42):
Mm hmm
PJ (49:43):
Are awful and Venom doesn't
pull it's demands forward.
Adam (49:47):
I feel like this would be
a, without all that, it would be
a fair episode bordering on goodbecause there are no stakes.
so you have this thing, what areyou going to do with it?
So well,
PJ (50:00):
We got the Roy Batty.
I forgot about that one.
Adam (50:02):
yes, we do have a Roy
Batty award.
I don't think it's an award.
I think it's, he has gone RoyBatty.
PJ (50:09):
Yes, he gets to actually
like, fuck some shit up,
Adam (50:11):
He does.
He really does.
Well, that is it for episode 28.
Episode 29.
A matter of gravity.
Firecracker is destroyed in abattle with Venom and Hondo gets
a new replacement vehicle,Hurricane, in the end.
And there's a note here thatHurricane was called
Nightstalker in this episode.
PJ (50:32):
So there's fun trivia for
that next time.
But, whoa! You
Adam (50:37):
a big one.
PJ (50:38):
you and I have been
inserting change and continuity
into every episode thus far tofill in the blanks.
But this is actually somethingthat has lasting consequences.
Adam (50:48):
Yeah.
it's a, and it's a great toy.
Hurricane was one of myfavorites of the mask toy line.
I, I played with it until itbroke and I think I had to get
another one.
PJ (51:00):
Hurricane was super cool.
It's also interesting becauseepisode has been teased.
Since the opening credits of thefirst episode,
Adam (51:09):
Yeah.
PJ (51:10):
we've seen this other
vehicle forever.
And it's like, what is this?
Adam (51:14):
Well, it's interesting
too, because.
We see other vehicles getcompletely wrecked, like in this
episode, bounce back either thenext episode or within the same
episode, like this episode.
PJ (51:26):
Yeah.
Adam (51:27):
This is one where
Firecracker is so destroyed that
they cannot reconstruct it.
So I'm very eager to dive intointo this episode.
PJ (51:36):
So the spoiler alert on that
is that it does show up in later
episodes again, But hurricanestill around too.
So it's, bizarre.
but regardless at the time thatit happens, it's pretty dramatic
Adam (51:50):
Yeah.
