Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Mocktails are Messy.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
We have a constant trend, yeah, last week we had
Harman Jane Harman from Amethyst.
She sent us another bottle ofAmethyst.
What flavor is it?

Speaker 1 (00:16):
That is the grapefruit basil.
I'm excited to try this.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
You ready to pour it at the same time, Sure, yeah,
One two three.
Ooh yeah, Nice, pour on that.
She said, Jane's like I like alittle bit more than one and a
half ounce.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
She likes two ounces.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
I love all the flavors.
We had the lemon, cucumber, serrano before the lime
watermelon last week with.
Jane.
Now we have the grapefruitbasil.
Here let's try it, cheers, thatis got a kick.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
I feel it in my nose.
I love that.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
They did simulate that like properly.
Oh wow, yeah, that's a sipper.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
That's a sipper.
I like it a lot.
Hey, podcast fam, how do youall feel after turning that
clock back?
At the beginning of this month, first Sunday of November, we
rolled our clocks back an hour.
We got to hit that snoozebutton with zero guilt.
But let's be real, we mighthave gained some Zs, but we said

(01:16):
goodbye to sunny evenings andhello to cozy nights with hot
cocoa and questionable Netflixbinges.
Here's the kicker While we'readjusting our clocks, don't
forget about your mood.
With fewer daylight hours, someof us might start feeling a
little blah Blah.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
What do you mean, blah.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Do you ever feel like you have seasonal depression in
those colder months?
I do.
And when it's getting dark soearly early like it starts
getting dark at like 3 pm do youever just feel a little bit?

Speaker 2 (01:52):
down.
Yeah, except like I did notfeel that in la because the
weather was pretty nice yeah, like all year round.
It's nice there yeah, but here, whenever it's colder and the
like, daylight savings is itsavings time.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
It just does put you in that little bit of that mood
of like meh yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
How are you holding up so far?

Speaker 2 (02:14):
You know what it's been tricky.
I mean, I do think in some ways, like, thank God the real
estate has been producing, it'sbeen happening, but you know, if
it wasn't for that, I wouldfeel a little bit more down in
the dumps.
What about you?
How do you feel?

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Yeah, I think I'm now two weeks sober.
I'm on a journey right now,guys, congratulations.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
I mean, I know some people, two weeks is nothing and
I know that you don't need tobe out of it.
It's just a nutrition thing foryou.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Yeah, it's actually, it's a big deal for me.
I think it was a part of mylifestyle where, like on the
weekends, I would drink no wine.
But you know what?
I'm on a journey right now.
I'm taking a pause from alcohol.
I pause from the sauce, yeah, and I feel great.
I actually don't miss it at all, which is weird.
I thought I would really missit.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah.
But I'm wondering if it'sbecause you just are like, okay,
I have a goal in mind.
I want to get back into, likeyou know, being that fitness
freak Like you were.
Like, I think you look amazingright now.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
And we've said this on like repetitive Thank you.
So I haven't recognized myselfin the mirror for the last four
years, ever since I had mydaughter, and I've been scared
to take this journey because Iknew it would be hard.
But I want to say for anyonewho is contemplating on doing it
it's not hard, you just have todo it.
You just have to commit to itand do it.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
But more on that to come.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Do it, yeah, but more on that to come.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Basically, since I'm focusing on myself right now, I
am not feeling any seasonaldepression yet this year right
so I don't like we still gotsome months to go, but I mean, I
think it's actually better forme because it is 10 months
without it, a little over 10months without the booze.
Congratulations, thank you.
And honestly I'm handlingthings a lot different.
I do think I, just like yousaid, like yeah, it might be the

(04:32):
seasonal depression might haveset in, because in the past it'd
be like okay, holidays, wineholidays, get drunk with your
friends and family holidays, like that was kind of always a
thing.
And it just felt like you know, the libations were flowing more
to like get out of that funk,it's mindless.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
And then you end up down this road that you're like
not happy so anxiety is realanxiety yeah, and we're getting
older.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
I mean, let's be honest, like when we were in our
20s it was like still like anew, fresh thing right like
excited to go to like south sideor even, like you know, like
travel to mexico like unlimited.
You know, like, what was that?
Um the?
What do they call that?
Like unlimited thing?

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Oh, like an all-inclusive yes.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
I know like that used to be like the highlight of our
life.
We'd be like oh my God, I can'twait to go to Cancun for an
all-inclusive resort.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
I know right Now it's different, but you know what I
mean.
I've got some tips and stuff onhow to navigate through these
like darker, colder months, whenthe clocks fall back, like it
really does disrupt our sleeppatterns and just getting your
sleep pattern disrupted a littlebit can really affect, like,
your mental health and yourmental well-being.

(05:54):
So like, give yourself a littletime to adjust.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
And the sleep like going to bed having a wine going
to sleep.
That was debunked.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
You don't have good sleep whenever you're drinking,
and it's not good for your hearteither, guys.
Yeah, that wine is not good foryour heart.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Red wine is not good for you yeah, I think that was
probably like some winery thatpaid for that.
Oh my gosh, they had to have.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
That was like in 2000 , early 2000s.
They were like wine is good foryour heart, have a glass of
wine a day.
And now it's like even oneglass a day is not beneficial,
it's harmful.
So it's good to be aware ofthat.
Yeah, I think you know.
If you're struggling becauseit's so dark out, go out into
the sun, like in the morning, for like a walk In the morning

(06:38):
at this time of year is whenyou're gonna get the best
sunlight and you can even dolike light therapy.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
They sell like that infrared.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Yeah, they even sell them on amazon.
You can like put it on yournightstand or something and like
, lay there and just let it hityour face.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
I always thought that was so kooky and bullshit, but
it's real it's real.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
I know somebody who did it last year.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yeah, they see the benefit yeah, it was like
january.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
They were depressed because it was just like so dark
and cold for too many monthsand it helped them.
It did um and stay social likedon't just stay in bed.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
I know it's so easy, right like, oh yeah, like you
just want to like binge netflixor, like you know, stay in bed
in the morning when it's toocold yeah, and like I think what
we're doing is self-care, focuson yourself, focus on self-care
because you could be, you couldcome out of this being so sexy.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
On the other end, if you just focus on yourself and
your self-care, you know know, take that bath at night, go to
bed early, wake up, do yourmorning walk, do your exercise
routine and you're golden.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
I know it sounds like super, like simple things, but
it is not easy to actuallycommit.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Right, and even all of that like sometimes it's not
enough.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Right, yeah, therapy helps me.
Yeah, because I think justhaving that other person that is
unbiased, that is, you know, educated in, you know, that
realm can really like do you alot, exactly, do justice for
yourself.
Yeah, I mean, I think it's kindof nuts to think about the top

(08:16):
searched features that rentersare looking for right now is
outdoor space I can agree withthat.
That's what I'm looking for,like as like a homeowner that's
looking for, like to expand andlike kind of find another house.
The outdoor space is soimportant to you yeah yeah, so
kind of go into, like you know, being being like healthier

(08:39):
mentally, like you said, likegetting that fresh air in the
morning.
I find it interesting on whythis study came out.
Why do you think they'relooking for the outdoor space?

Speaker 1 (08:50):
For me personally, I want to get away from the TV
screens.
I don't really watch a lot ofTV guys.
I want to get away from, likemy cell phone.
You know that instantgratification where you're
always looking down at your cellphone yes I just want to get
outside and like do yard workand like have some chickens,
like you know, maybe some goats, like we are looking for five

(09:12):
acres minimum okay, so whoeverknows where the five acres is?

Speaker 2 (09:16):
north of north allegheny county.
Yeah, allegheny north.
Yeah, please let us know fiveacres, that's where she's going
yeah, she's looking for thatyeah, give me, shoot me a
message.
If you know of anythingseriously, we're looking right
now yeah, you want that outdoorspace because you just feel
connected to nature.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
You want to have animals.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
You're looking to be a farm girl and it's easier when
you're entertaining guests.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
It's so much easier to do it outside, rather than
having them in your house andthen having like pretty much
like a mess to clean up.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Uh-huh, oh yeah, I mean, I think that the funny
part about this is I likeoutdoor space with just being
connected to nature.
But the reason that this topsearch is stating that people
are looking for patias, porches, outdoor spaces, decks, is
because they love sittingoutside quietly attempting to

(10:08):
hear the neighbor's arguments.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
What, that's what people like outdoor space.
Okay, that's what I'm gettingright now in my neighborhood.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Okay, that's what I'm getting right now in my
neighborhood, like I mean, honest to God, like I was in a
relationship love them dearly.
We're you know, we're amicable, but that was one thing.
Towards the end that was badBecause we lived in an apartment
complex with a cute courtyard.
We would fight and everybodyknew.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
It was that loud or it was that close of quarters, I
would have hated living nearyou, have you?
Have you seen those little likeearbuds that like you put it in
your ear?
I saw it on amazon.
I don't have one, but you putit in your ear and it like
amplifies the sound so you canlike hear things better sounds
like a a hearing aid.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
No, there's what it does Okay, listen, so you could
go outside and like get betterhearing and hear like the
arguments better.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
So if you're into that, there's an option for you.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
So I honestly think people love like, think about it
.
We watch television for likedrama.
We watch reality shows for thedrama.
There is something that I'mlearning as I get older people
love drama I mean sometimes theycreate it in their own circles.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Oh they do, I mean, life gets.
So that's why I say two iscompany three is a crowd,
because if it's a friendship ofthree, then that when the when
two of them are off together, when the third one is out,
they're gonna be talking shit onyou.
It's, that's what happenstypically.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Well, I could say the same thing about three siblings
.
You have three siblings butguess what?
Siblings too but the thingthat's nice about having three
is one person can be just downlike, say you need solitude and
quiet, sure you have the onethat could just take a break.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
You tag in, tag out well, you know Pros and cons.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
But if we're talking about drama, I mean if you're in
a throuple or a threesome or agroup of three friends, it's
like I don't know.
Beware.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
What are your thoughts on a throuple?
Would you and your husband everbe interested?

Speaker 1 (12:20):
No, there's enough bullshit between just the two of
us.
We don't have room for for moreof that I know you already have
two.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Yeah, you don't need any of that.
Oh, I mean, I do think in someways, like I find it kind of
crazy.
Like you know, liquid death islike the original, like mocktail
, but not really like.
So.
Liquid death is a can of water.
Yeah, it looks like a beer, yeah I don't touch that.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
You don't like it.
I will not touch something thatsays liquid death on it.
It's bad vibes.
Bad vibes, bad energy.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
I'm not putting that into me okay, well, it's funny
you say that because they cameout with this misfortune cookies
what yeah?
Doubt, like during the holidayor during halloween, they came
out with this.
Instead of a fortune cookiethey are a black colored fortune
cookie and it's calledmisfortune bizarre.

(13:16):
I know, it's kind of fuckingcool.
Yeah, I did try it.
What did?

Speaker 1 (13:19):
you think?

Speaker 2 (13:20):
I thought it was amazing because it's funny
little like naughty things thatare like oh, this misfortune.
So you know, it's basically thedeath liquid, death canned
water brand is literally asking, like you know, duolingo to have
.
Like you know, duolingo is likethe language app that's located

(13:41):
I think you say like duo oh,duolingo okay, I say door Duo
lingo.
Okay, I say duo.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Well, we all know you have a speech impediment, I
know.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Okay, thank you for correcting me.
Duo, duo, Duo lingo, Duo lingofor having so Liquid.
Death has these questionablemarketing campaigns for the Miss
Fortune cookie and it's adisturbing black fortune cookie
that is sold like was all overthese chinese restaurants in new

(14:12):
york and la I was able to get afriend of mine.
He mailed it to me.
The cookies contain playfulnegative fortunes that would
make your mom go.
Well, that's not very nice Idon't like it.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Bad vibes, I would maybe do it on like halloween
well, that's, that was where,okay, I guess.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Yeah, just not on a normal tuesday though okay, yeah
, yeah, so you don't likemisfortune cookies no, I'm
superstitious, and I always havebeen and I'm cynical yeah, you
are a little cynical.
Where do you get that from you?

Speaker 1 (14:47):
know how life shapes you.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Life has shaped me to be that way please elaborate no
do you think I'm too much of anoptimist, like I'm just like so
happy-go-lucky, or do you thinkI'm getting more real as I get
older?

Speaker 1 (15:04):
no, I don't think you are getting more real I think
you are so happy.
Go lucky optimist.
And that's what's scary.
When you're down, it's scary,but no, like I was a couple
weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
I really do feel like omni home.
Oh wait, we were.
I was corrected by somebody.
I said the william omni penhotel.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
It's the Omni William Penn Hotel.
Omni, william Penn, twoepisodes ago, wow.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
Wow, I don't know how I fucked that up.
Maybe it was being in thathaunted setting.
I really felt these likespirits coming into me, because
you never see me like that.
So yeah, you're right, when I'mdown, it's weird.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
So super weird.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Did we have any messages or anything like that?
Oh my god, that long ass.
Do you want to do it?
Got a message from one of thepeople that stole our billboard
and then they went onto thewebsite.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
They contacted me and you so we do have a billboard
in bloomfield would you?
Consider bloomfield part ofpittsburgh.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Yeah, it's a neighborhood of pittsburgh yeah,
okay you know, I think it'skind of nuts that we got this
long, long, long, long message.
They said I saw your sign inbloomfield.
I have a lot of messy stories, but I am enclosing one of them
for your consideration.
I have plenty other odd andstrange tales.
I hope you like it is this.
I mean it is going on for threemore pages.

(16:27):
Okay, To be continued.
There's a second email on topof that.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
Okay, this is the craziest thing that anyone's
ever sent us.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
It sounds kind of nuts and we do appreciate you
sending the messy stories.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
I want to hear more about what's going on with
everybody's lives.
We are Ryan Frankofsky andKelly Msgorski.
