We’d love to hear from you, send us a text about your favorite show!

If you’ve ever felt floaty, emotional, or like there’s lingering energy hanging around after a reading, healing session, or deep spiritual work—your container may still be open.

As intuitives, healers, and sensitives, we often focus so much on opening up to Spirit, to energy, to messages—that we forget one of the most essential parts: closing. Without a strong close, you’re more likely to feel ungrounded, vulnerable, or even energetically scattered. And over time, that can take a real toll on your system.

In this episode, we’re exploring why a thoughtful closing prayer or ritual is more than just a “nice to have.” It’s an energetic boundary. It’s integration. It’s protection. It helps your nervous system settle, brings your energy field back into balance, and gives you the closure needed to return to everyday life feeling strong and clear.  It's essential to your long term health as a spiritual practitioner.

Whether you're doing a session for yourself, connecting with Spirit Guides, or holding sacred space for others, you’ll find some inspiration to create a closing practice that feels resonant for you.

Christina Wooten (00:28):
Hey there, kinderd spirits. Welcome to
Modern Life and Spirit podcast.
It's Christina Wooten, certifiedpsychic medium at
SedonaMedium.com Welcome to ourepisode today. I'm so glad that
you're here. I was thinking theother day how important it is to
talk more about closing ritualsor closing prayers at the end of

(00:48):
intuitive work, whether that isthe work that you're doing in
healing sessions or Reikisessions with your clients,
whether it is at the close of areading, whether it is the close
of a meditation or communicationwith your spirit guides, or
maybe you're doing intuitivejournaling or some other form of

(01:10):
expression where you're workingwith the other side. Whenever
we're working with the otherside, it's important that we
bookend that with an openingprayer, which is your invitation
to spirit. It's your alignment.
It's where you are elevatingyour energy so that you're in a

(01:32):
place to be able to receive andyou're letting spirit know I'm
ready. Hey, bring me yourmessages right now. I am open a
full antenna ready to receive, and on the other end, having a
closing prayer. We need this formultiple reasons. We need it for
acknowledging that the work thatwe are doing is sacred, work

(01:55):
that are guides that the otherside has worked very hard to
share these messages, to saythank you, to express gratitude
for the efforts that they havemade, how they have shown up for
you. It's also an importantcomponent of having energetic
boundaries and getting closureon the session itself, so that

(02:17):
you can begin to return to yourown energy and not be influenced
by all of the subtle energiesand frequencies that might be
floating around when you leavethe door Open. And of course,
you know a closing prayer ispart of making sure that you are
not doing like a wham bam. Thankyou, ma'am to your spirit

(02:39):
guides, that you are reallytaking the time to appreciate
what has come forward, torecognize the beauty of that,
and it helps to just preventthose energy leaks from
happening without having aclosing prayer, you are leaving
the door cracked open to spirit, and you might not notice it

(03:00):
right away, but energetically, something stays unfinished when
you don't create a closurethere. My mentor used to talk
about how important it was to bein balance, even in our
spiritual work, because we haveto be present and responsible
for the lessons that our soulcame here to learn, and we have

(03:22):
to be in our own energy in orderto do that, to actually be in
the growth work that we camehere to do, we have to be
present with what is here, grounded in our experience,
grounded in our body, and readyto grow. And we can't do that if
we are sort of abdicating ourrole by being out in the upper

(03:44):
chakras and out in those higherenergies and not fully present.
And what happens is that ourspirit guides won't support us
in getting out of balance in thelong run. They are really
invested in us being presentfully in our work that we need
to do, and also, equally, beingable to be of service to others,

(04:06):
but not to be in serviceconstantly all the time to
spirit to the point where you'rebeing woken up in the middle of
the night because you feel aspirit person has come in and
they want you to deliver amessage to someone those types
of things interfere with ourability to do the deeper work,

(04:27):
and a closing prayer helps us todefine the sacred space that we
are creating within ourselvesand the work that we are doing.
With Spirit. So our closingprayer is also a part of not
just energetic hygiene, but alsoa part of protection. It's
important. It's your chakraneeds to be able to have that

(04:49):
closure. Otherwise what happensis you can feel really Spacey.
You'll eventually become moreand more drained. You can feel
really emotionally raw afteryour sessions and have trouble
letting go of all of that. Ifyou are doing readings for
others, or maybe you're doinghealing work for other people,

(05:11):
you might stay energeticallyconnected to your clients or to
their guides or messages toolong, and you're going to carry
that with you, and then start toabsorb some of that into your
own energy field. And then onceit absorbs into your own energy
field, you have to clear it,which is much harder, because it

(05:34):
takes a while for you, maybeeven to realize that it's not
your stuff. This is particularlyimportant for empaths, because
we don't want all of those otheremotions and subtle energies to
influence your direction, yourclarity your mind, and
essentially clog up your auricfield, because over time, all of

(05:56):
that is going to make your mindcloudier, harder for spirit to
be able to get messages through, because you're holding on to all
of this old energy in your auricfield, And each of those little
sections and pieces representenergy that spirit has to kind
of push through to be able tobring forward a clear message.

(06:19):
And this is where messages canget very distorted. You might
find that you're just gettingfragments or pieces of a message
or pieces of information, andnot feeling like you're getting
the whole picture, because yourguides are having to move
through this sludge that yourenergy is becoming because

(06:41):
you're not raising yourvibration, you're not getting to
the levels that you need to getto in time. So this really can
have a big impact in how youshow up for people as well.
There are spirits that we needto have very strong, energetic
boundaries with, so that they'renot hanging around after your

(07:03):
session and deciding, you know, boy, she was really fun to talk
to. You know, maybe I'll juststick around. We want to have
that strong connection andclarity that says, nope. This is
my private space. Thank you forallowing me to serve. Have a
wonderful day. The beautifulthing about a closing prayer or

(07:25):
some sort of closing process orritual is that it can be very
personal for you, so you havethe opportunity to really think
about what words reflect, whatyou would want to express,
what's something that's easy foryou to access in all different
environments? I really like justbeing able to use words, use a

(07:47):
closing prayer, specificallybecause when you start to get
into closing rituals, sometimesthat involves props, of being
able to do a certain practicewith a certain something that
represents that you are closingthe space. And in using props,
it means that you need that Propwith you all the time, and it

(08:10):
makes it a little bit harder foryou to do things on the fly. I
like to be able to if I need totune in at the airport, if I
need to tune in, you know, at atime where it's not anticipated,
I don't feel like I need someprop that I don't have. So
having a closing prayer isreally effective and very

(08:31):
efficient for that process, being able to just have
something that I say mine soundslike at the end of a reading
Infinite Intelligence. Thank youfor this opportunity of
connection. We ask that youcontinue to support us as we
move ever closer to you. Amen.
Namaste. And when I do that, Ireally just am expressing with

(08:52):
my heart lots of gratitude andlots of love and lots of
appreciation. I'm closing that.
I'm expressing that to myclient. I'm expressing it to
their guides, to their lovedones who have shown up, to my
spirit guides, and to the space.
So it's a very loving andgrateful energy that is emerging

(09:14):
as I say those words, and Ithink that the words are
important, but also justcapturing that feeling, that
expression of love and gratitudethrough you, is also a big part
of closing the process. When weclose something with gratitude,
we're really showing that wehave an understanding of it. It

(09:35):
brings things into wholeness.
Because it shows the appropriaterespect to spirit, to our guides
to loved ones. On the otherside, it can also really
reinforce the bond and trustthat you have with your spirit
team, which is really importantto express that love and

(09:57):
appreciation and connection andto feel the love that you have
for each other. Once you close asession, it should allow all of
those emotions that might havecome up, where you were getting
messages through clairsentience, for example, to settle and to
allow all the wisdom that needsto be absorbed to be absorbed

(10:20):
and integrated, and everythingelse to be able to move on. And
it affirms that, hey, I'm readyto get back into everyday life
and my work as a human being whois here to continue to grow and
develop my spirit energy aswell. It helps you to be able to
process all of that. So as youstart to think about a good

(10:42):
closing prayer for your work, acouple of things that I think
are really helpful, you'llnotice that my prayer is
relatively short. It's, I guess, two lines, two sentences, and
that's because it's easy toremember when you're coming out
of your intuitive practice, youmight be a little bit on the

(11:04):
trancy side, because you'veentered into an altered state of
consciousness, and your brainshouldn't be fully engaged. So
the normal, like, frontal lobethinking that's happening is not
happening in our intuitive work.
And so as you go into the closewe don't have, like, all of that
same access to memory and to,like, fluid thought and and the

(11:27):
things that we we normally havewhen our brain is fully online
when we're in that Transy state, when you're in an altered state
of consciousness, you want tokeep it simple and keep it easy
for yourself so it can berepeated, similar to like muscle
memory. It just becomessomething that you recognize,

(11:49):
and it doesn't require a wholelot of brain power. The longer
you're closing prayer and moreelaborate your closing prayer
becomes, the harder it's goingto be for you to actually
implement that when it does cometime for a close and especially
in a variety of differentcircumstances that you might be

(12:11):
in, or if you're distracted, there aren't any real right
words that you need to havethere. It just needs to be able
to represent your heart, yourgratitude, your appreciation. So
think about what is helping youcome back into your body, and
also what is a sincereappreciation and thankfulness

(12:32):
and closure to your spiritguide. So it can be something
very simple, like thank you foryour presence. I release this
energy with love or withgratitude. I close this session
and return fully to myself, establishing a closing prayer.
When you are doing thisregularly, it is going to help

(12:53):
you with that energetic drain.
It's going to help you maintainenergetic boundaries, so that
you don't have lingeringenergies hanging out in your
space, which could cause moreenergetic drain. And you are
going to find the peace and thejoy of that connection, unique

(13:15):
connection time that you do havewith spirit when you have an
established time where you areindicating, I am closing at this
point, your guides are going tounderstand that and really show
up for you when you open, because they are excited and
ready. They're like, Oh, I'vegot all of these messages that I

(13:37):
can't wait to communicate withyou. And I know that I have, you
know, a limited amount of timeto be able to do that, where
you're really tuned in, you'rereally clear you're in that high
vibrational state in order to beable to intentionally receive so
they're going to really show upfor you. So the key is that we

(14:00):
want to establish this routinethat's going to help your spirit
guides know what it means whenwe have an opening, and know
what it means when we have aclosing. And those boundaries,
in the long run, will help youin a big way, so that you don't
have spirit impeding on yourregular life in ways that can be

(14:23):
detrimental. So this happens alot when people are first
beginning their spiritualdevelopment journey, because
they don't have a whole lot ofboundaries, they're just like,
let me open up to everything, and so that sends the signal of
like we're just wide open toreceive all things. And that

(14:44):
leads to different challenges, where somebody might be closing
their eyes as they're developingclairvoyance, they might start
to see tons and tons of. Facesthat are just like right there
in their mind's eye, becauseit's all spirit who's ready to
talk to that person. You know, you might have times where you

(15:07):
are awakened in the middle ofthe night, or you are getting
messages when it's aninappropriate time for you to
receive messages. So we want tobe able to reinforce this
collaborative connection withour spirit guides, to have those
safe, energetic boundaries andnot have lingering energies that

(15:28):
are going to ultimately make youfeel not so great, and not
pursue your continued spiritualdevelopment and intuitive
development. So I hope that thishas helped. I hope that you feel
inspired to really make surethat you have an opening and
that you have a closing, and tofollow through with that closing

(15:50):
all of the time, and in the verybeginning, I know that sometimes
it can be a little bitchallenging when you are
starting a brand new type ofroutine for yourself, where you
might forget every now and thenright that's okay. What I want
you to do is the moment that youremember, oh my gosh, I forgot

(16:12):
my clothes, is to just stopright then and immediately do
your clothes, because that isgoing to anybody that's
lingered, dismiss them, let themknow it's time to go
immediately, and it's going tokind of clean the energy in your
space. All right. Thank youeveryone for joining us for this

(16:33):
episode. I hope that you feelinspired, and I look forward to
talking to you on our nextepisode, sending many blessings.
