We’d love to hear from you, send us a text about your favorite show!

Some places just feel different, right? Like the moment you step into a cozy yoga studio or that one little crystal shop you love, your whole nervous system goes, “Ahhh, yessss.” And then there are places—like the bright, noisy big box stores—where the energy can be overstimulating and distracting.  You can almost feel your auric field shrink inward!

That’s not a coincidence. That’s energy. The space around you matters a lot—especially when you’re doing intuitive or spiritual work.  It's also often something that gets overlooked.

In this episode, we’re getting into how to create your own sacred space—a sanctuary that actually supports your nervous system, nurtures your connection with Spirit, and amplifies your connection with the other side.  That leads to better readings, better meditations, and deeper level work.  Whether you have the luxury of a whole room or a small corner devoted to Spirit, we’ll talk about the little things that make a big impact.

Whether you’re just starting to build a space dedicated for spiritual connection or looking to breathe new life into one you’ve had for years, you'll find solid direction in this episode.

Consider this podcast your go tospiritual resource for

(00:23):
navigating the modern world. Hey

Christina Wooten (00:27):
Hey there, kindered spirits. Welcome to
Modern Life and Spirit podcast.
It's Christina Wooten, certifiedpsychic medium from Sedona
medium.com I'm so glad that youare here. Welcome to the episode
today. I know your guides arehappy that you're here. We are
going to be talking about animportant component that gets
overlooked most of the time whenpeople start really focusing and

(00:52):
emphasizing the growth anddevelopment, working with their
spirit guides, or making moreconcerted efforts with their
loved ones on the other side.
And this overlooked element canmake a big difference in how
successful you are, howchallenging it can feel, where

(01:12):
you feel like you're pullingteeth, or how easy things seem
to flow. It's not always justour energy. Sometimes it's how
our energy is being impacted ina space as well. We always want
to put our energy in a placethat's going to be exalted, that
it's going to be supported andbeing strong, vibrant, open,

(01:34):
clear and receptive, rather thanenvironments that can take away
some of that element, or takeaway some of our energy, or we
feel like we have to kind offight something that's already
there, or we get distracted bythings, because that is going to
impact how much energy you haveto just be completely clear,

(01:55):
receptive and open. So we'retalking today about your
environment. What it is thathelps to create a space where
you can be more successful inyour spirit work, and just put
that on the forefront of yourthoughts. So maybe you have a
space already that you'realready using for your intuitive

(02:16):
work, your journaling, yourpersonal practices, your
meditation space, your time oftalking with your guides, your
Oracle Card readings or yourhealing work, whatever it is,
but you know, it's always a goodtime to just check back in and
see how the energy has shiftedand changed and evolved every

(02:37):
year. We know from a Feng Shuiperspective that the energy of
our spaces shifts and change, and everything is always
evolving. How we're interactingwith a space is always evolving.
So if you've kind of had thingsbe the same for the last couple
of years, it's a good time tojust bring fresh eyes and a

(02:58):
fresh heart to does the spacephysically and energetically
support you right now in the waythat it currently is. If it does
wonderful, you've got kind of acheck mark that you can put on
things, and you know you're inalignment for right now. But if
not, if you haven't created aspace for yourself, or if you

(03:19):
get the message that thingsaren't in alignment for you,
it's a good time to justrecognize how that may be
impacting how open, receptiveand clear you are in your work
with the other side, the energyof our environment can amplify
energy, or it can hinder thatintuitive flow and how
information comes to usdepending again, how clear and

(03:43):
open we are, the body is alsoconstantly picking up on all of
these subtle cues from theenvironment, and that affects
the clarity in our auric fieldand in our energy, in what we
are picking up. So if somethingis out of alignment your body,
your aura, your energy, isfeeling that even if your mind

(04:04):
has blocked it out. So thinkabout that area, that that junk
drawer you have, or that placewhere all things just sort of
end up, the things you're notsure exactly what to do with,
and so you just set it here, andare like, Oh, I'll come back to
that eventually, right? Our mindcan tune that out. It can kind

(04:26):
of overlook it, because weexpect to see this clutter
there, or this, you know, staleenergy there, but our bodies and
our auric field is stillinteracting really directly with
that, and so we can't tune thatout from that perspective, and
that does make a difference inwhat we're receiving. Any type

(04:47):
of psychic and intuitive workrequires receptivity. It
requires a safe andenergetically clean place that
supports that, that elevatesyour inner. Energy so that it's
not fighting against the stuffthat's in the room. It's Free to
lift itself up and meet spiritin the middle. Another advantage

(05:07):
of thinking about where you'repracticing and where your work
zone is for your spirit stuff isthat when you do work in a space
consistently, you will noticethat your guides can build these
layers of energy in that spacethat, over time, allows them to
make easier connections withyou, and that also gives them a

(05:29):
good clue that when you sit downin this one space, in this one
area, and maybe you touch youroracle cards, or you grab your
journal, it's telling them Allright, guys, it's time for us to
get ready. We better get movingand shaking, because she's ready
to receive she's about to openup so we can share our messages

(05:51):
with her. So it gives them someimportant clues when you have a
regular space to work from, butalso like they can build energy
into that space that just makesit easier for you to be able to
connect with them and them to beable to connect with you. Now,
those are things that only canhappen when you work from a

(06:13):
space consistently. Now, doesthat mean that you can only work
from that space ever? No, itdoesn't. But if you have the
option, and you are in the area, work from a regular space,
because it can help you in thesesubtle ways that maybe you're
not recognizing because youdon't know all the work that

(06:34):
spirit is having to do behindthe scenes to help you, to help
you, to make that deeperconnection with them. And of
course, remember that when youdo work from a place
consistently, you really get toknow the baseline energy of that
room or that area that you'reworking in. So you're more

(06:55):
likely to notice subtle shiftsand subtle changes in that so
you can notice more when spiritsteps into the room, because
you're going to notice somethingshifted in the atmosphere,
something changed in a way thatyou might not notice it if
you're constantly bouncing fromone chair to another, going to

(07:16):
Another room, another space, allthe time, because you're
constantly just adapting to theenergy that is available there.
When you get to know a spacepsychically, energetically, it's
a lot easier for you to tellwhen something is off, when
something has changed, whensomeone has moved into the

(07:36):
space, when it needs a cleanse, because you know what the base
vibration of that space is andcan be. So working from a
particular area and environmentmakes a big difference. So
here's some things I want you tothink about for your space now,
or something that you areconsidering creating. And the

(07:57):
first one is the energetichygiene and cleanliness of the
space. So you want to make surethat the area that you're in has
a good vibration, has a goodenergy from its baseline. So
it's not in an area that yougenerally have a tendency to
avoid, not want to be around, feel kind of funky in. It's a

(08:18):
place where you like to be,where you feel uplifted, where
you feel excited to be there.
That's going to help you a lot.
It's already lifting yourvibration and lifting your
energy to be there. So thinkabout where you're already
reacting what is kind of a noenergy for you in your space

(08:38):
that's not very conducive tofeeling excited to be there and
having a high vibration. Andwhat are places that you feel
enthusiastic about being thatfeels really open and positive
and uplifting for you, becausethose are the best spaces to
work with and modify for yourenergetic processes. Another

(08:59):
thing to think about is, is itfree of clutter?
Because clutter energy, like wetalked about, it's not just a
distraction for your mind, because there's lots of things
that you know, colors and andstuff that might get your
attention while you're reallytrying to focus on the subtle
things that are happening, butalso you're going to be feeling

(09:22):
all of that. You can feel thechaos that comes from clutter in
our bodies and in the auricfield that is going to be a
distraction from what you reallyneed to focus on. So the
clearer, the cleaner things are,the better. Now, does that mean
that you can't be a fabulousmaximalist. No, you know, be who

(09:44):
you truly are, but consider howimportant is that you need space
around your body, so maybe youhave a maximalist fun altar
space, but the area where yousit is several feet away. From
that, so that that gives you alittle bit of visual, mental and

(10:05):
other space from that. So thinkabout that and clear everything
else that you don't need that isdistracting you visually, or is
distracting you in how your bodyand energy feels, if it makes
sure auric field kind of retracttowards yourself. That's going
to make your energy smaller, andit's going to make it much

(10:27):
harder for you to connect withthe other side. So we don't want
that. And then, of course, wewant to make sure that it's
clean of any stagnant energy. Soagain, this is why it's great to
already be thinking about aplace you enjoy being because
you're already going to haveenergy moving in that space. And
if you enjoy being there, it'sprobably a nice, high

(10:49):
vibrational area or place thathas positive energy to begin
with. It's usually the placesthat are really stagnant and
kind of funky that we avoid tobegin with. So think about that
area for yourself. But we wantto keep that energy flowing and
keep things moving. So smudging,or doing Reiki, doing sound

(11:12):
healing, or just working withintention, to make sure that
that energy is regularly moving, especially if you're doing
energetic work there, is goingto make a big difference,
because, again, you are liftingand letting go of the heavy
stuff and keeping that vibrationnice and fresh and easy for you
to connect. So it's a nice cleanpalette, with the exception of

(11:34):
what your spirit guides are kindof adding in there regularly to
help you and lift yourvibration. Another thing to
think about that people reallyforget is how comfortable and
how safe you feel in that space.
Feeling physically comfortablehelps you to open your intuitive
channels. It helps your body todial down to relax. It helps

(11:57):
your nervous system not be onhigh alert and kind of melt a
little bit and in the beginningof development, that can make a
really big difference, becauseour body and our mind can be
extremely distracting. When ourmind gets into our work, it
really changes the meaning ofwhat we might be getting. So we

(12:20):
think we're getting one thing, and then our mind twists it into
something else, and then we'refrustrated about why did that
not turn out how I thought itwas going to Well, it's because
your mind has gotten in the way.
We want to use this space tohelp the mind and the body to be
able to be at peace and relax.
So think about things from asensory perspective that help

(12:43):
you to relax, soft blankets, things that make you feel really
cozy, very comfortable chairs.
Now I've seen so many meditationchairs that are the most
uncomfortable things I've justever sat in I went to a place
one time that estheticallygorgeous, beautiful, just filled

(13:07):
with all of these very, veryexpensive meditation chairs and
sit down in so uncomfortable itwould be the worst place to do
some of that work, because itjust doesn't work right? So we
need something that supportsyour body, that allows your body
to melt in a little bit, to givethat signal to your body that,

(13:28):
hey, everything's okay. Here wecan get nice and we can get
comfortable, cozy blankets, softsocks, those types of things can
be really supportive. So don'tneglect your sensory comforts,
because it is going to make abig difference. And think about
the temperature too. You want toadjust the temperature so that

(13:49):
it is not a distraction for youas well. That makes a big
difference in the beginning ofdevelopment, because the biggest
challenge is always going to bemanaging the distractions for
yourself a little bit later, when you've built those channels
in, things like that aren't asdifficult, right, but it is
important for a lot of times thefirst few years of your
development work, another thingwe talked about is just safe

(14:12):
spaces. You need to feel safe.
So when you close your eyes inthat area, do you feel
vulnerable or exposed?
Do you feel uncomfortable likesomething could just walk up
behind you or catch you offguard? So maybe there's a primal
part in your alligator brainthat is making it hard for you

(14:34):
to relax because of thepositioning of a chair or the
positioning of things aroundyou. So I want you to close your
eyes in that space and reallypay attention to what are the
signals that your alligatorbrain are sending to you? Do you
feel fully safe if not? Thinkabout making some adjustments to
the position of things thatmight help you to feel a little

(14:57):
bit more secure. And again, I.
To achieve that goal of feelingmore open, more at peace, where
our intuition flows. A thirdthing to think about is natural
elements, and bringing thoseinto the space, because that's
going to lift the vibration andthe natural key energy of the
room, or the space that you'reworking from. So one thing to

(15:17):
think about is light. So lightdisperses energy in a space,
which can be really helpful forcleansing. It gives you that
nice clear feeling when you gointo a space that has a lot of
open windows and a lot of openlight. Yes, before we do higher
level Spirit work, it actuallycan be very important to close

(15:41):
the blinds, close the curtains, and give ourselves a little bit
more darkness in the space, sothat during our work, spirit can
help to develop and build theenergy that when they're
building things, it's notimmediately getting dispersed by
that light energy filtering Inand cleaning everything and
sweeping it all away, right? Sothere can be a benefit to having

(16:03):
a window that you can open, forexample, for saging and
cleansing, but also be able toclose the curtains and close the
shades for right before you dohigher level of work, and then
afterwards, when you want todisperse that energy, when
you're releasing letting go,you're closing that space down,
is opening the windows again, letting that light filter

(16:25):
through, maybe even letting thatfresh air filter through and
release anything that might beleft in the space. Consider also
bringing in plants, crystals, things from the outdoors that
maybe you've collected and love, that remind you of your travels,
or remind you of special thingsin your life, or, you know,

(16:47):
bring in a fountain, things likethat, that keeps the key moving
in your space. Nature reallydoes support psychic
sensitivity. It adds extraenergy into a space. And when we
have things that are moving, itcan add this extra key. And of
course, things that are alive, like plants, it can add extra
energy to that too. So dependingon where it is in your space, if

(17:11):
you follow feng shui, some ofthose natural additions can be
really beneficial and helpful.
So play around with maybesomething needs to move or
change locations or shift it.
Maybe you need to add a littlebit of something natural into
the space to just keep liftingthat vibration. So for number
four, this is a big one that Italk to my students about when

(17:34):
they come to my course workingwith your spirit guides,
boundaries and privacy. When youare doing Spirit work, you need
to be able to avoidinterruptions, to not have your
phone going off like crazy, oryour social media giving you
notifications or just noisyenvironments that is going to

(17:55):
take you out of the zone, andevery time you take an out of
the zone, your mind getsactivated, and that comes into
your reading or into your work.
So it's really important thatyou minimize always
interruptions, thosenotifications, noisy

(18:17):
environments, as much aspossible. So this can be where
you think about if you're tryingto set yourself up right beside
the front door, are you going tohave people coming in and out
when you are deep in youraltered state of consciousness,
talking to your guides andfinally getting somewhere and
then somebody is rattling theirkeys and coming in and closing

(18:39):
the door and Telling you hellobefore they realize what's going
on. It's not the bestenvironment. If you do need to
work from an area like that, maybe you have a smaller space,
which is fine. Maybe you live ina really cool, tiny home, I
don't know. You want to createsome sort of signal so that
someone is not coming in at themoment that you are doing this

(18:59):
deeper level work. So having adoor hanger that indicates that
you need privacy or you needquiet for this, or something
that lets people know I'm in themiddle of something right now
you can come in shortly, isreally helpful. Psychic work and
intuitive work really thriveswhen you feel that you can go
inward without distraction, because you can really let go on

(19:23):
deeper levels. Your your bodydoesn't feel like it needs to be
on guard. You don't feel likeyou've got to be fully present
for or prepared for whatevermight be happening or whatever
is changing in the environment.
You can just totally release andlet go and go where it is that
you need to go, give yourselfthe gift of boundaries. There's

(19:44):
nothing more frustrating thantaking a while to reach that
place of deep connection, reallygetting where you've been trying
to get. And suddenly somethingtakes you out of it and breaks
you out so you want to be. Moreintentional about how you
communicate your boundaries andhow you ask for privacy, and the
last thing I want you to thinkabout for today is just honoring

(20:07):
your own personal energeticresonance. So trust your
feelings. Some places just feelright, and you're not
necessarily sure why it does.
It's just, you know, this is myspot. This is my place.
Sometimes the best place is moreabout how you set the energy

(20:30):
than where it is. So, so thinkabout what feels really right
for you, what feels reallyresonant, and even if there's a
space in your environment thatkind of ticks all the boxes that
we've talked about already, andit just doesn't feel right.
That's not your space. Okay? Sowe want to think about and get

(20:52):
creative. You can also put thatout to your spirit guides and
ask for their help. If you'refeeling creatively challenged by
your space to just go, Okay, wait a minute. You know, I'm
looking for something that meetsthis criteria but also feels
right. What can you help mewith? So sometimes our guides
can rake us out of the mentalboxes that we're in and show us

(21:15):
that there's more possibilitiesthan we really thought that
there was. So if you are reallystruggling, ask for their help
and ask for their support, evenif it means you kind of
rearrange things or shift thingsor whatever, ask for their help
and then follow through. Listen.
You know it's it's always betterto ask and then make sure that
it's resonating with you and andfollow through. Because

(21:37):
otherwise, when we don't followthrough, we create this pattern
with our guides that just says,Hey, I'm not listening and hey,
I'm not ready to listen. Soalways make sure when you ask
for help that you reallygenuinely mean, that you're
willing to follow through andthat you are truly listening and
indicating that you're listeningto what it is that they're
saying. If you are doing deeperlevel work in a bedroom, it may

(22:00):
be harder for you to sleep, soone of the things that my guide
showed me is that the energywhen you're doing a lot of
Spirit work kind of swirlsaround, and it can swirl around
very, very fast, and that makesit very difficult to get a
deeper night's rest. So ideally,if you can choose a space that

(22:25):
is not in a bedroom, that willhelp you, or if it is in a
bedroom, try and set up somesort of a barrier for yourself
so that it's in a very definedspace that maybe doesn't have
wall necessarily, but you usesome sort of energetic screen
there to separate your bedroomarea from your work area that

(22:47):
just helps to contain some ofthat energy. I don't feel like
in the long run, that that helpsas much as just not doing it in
that space. If sleep is reallyimportant to you, but it can
help if that's the only optionthat you do have. What I hope
that you take away from today isthat you don't need the perfect
room to connect. It doesn't haveto look like a Pinterest board.

(23:10):
It doesn't have to look likesome wild, fantastical AI
creation spirit will meet youwherever you are, but setting
the space will help you to feelclearer and more confident and
help you to get rid of some ofthese distractions and things
that can make a difference whenyou are first starting out. We

(23:30):
want to be as open as possible,as receptive as possible, as
peaceful as possible. We want tosink in so our bodies and our
nervous system feels so relaxedthat we can reach that higher
level, that in between state. Sowe want to support ourselves,
and being able to do that andspirit will help us to do that

(23:52):
in the space that we have. WhatI'd like for you to do this week
is just start to pay attention.
Just notice how differentenvironments affect your
intuition, and see which spaceshelp you to feel the most open.
What is it that helps you tofeel very relaxed? What helps
you to feel that a room isreally, really peaceful? I want

(24:16):
you to really take note of that, and also want you to take note
of what makes you close down, shut down and disconnect, and
pay attention to that, becausewe want to amplify what it is
that helps you to feel peaceful, relaxed, gentle, calm inside,
and we want to decrease thethings that disconnect or that

(24:39):
gets you in The mind or gets youthinking and gets you away from
that peaceful, relaxed, receptive, clear and open state.
I will also tell you that Iabsolutely love seeing people's
spaces that they set up formeditation, that they've set up
for energetic work, if you. Havea special space that you would

(25:01):
love to share. I would love tosee it. You can send it to me on
Instagram at Sedona medium, orsend it to me through old
fashioned Facebook, if you wantto do that too. But I would love
to see some of your spaces. Andif you have questions, feel free
to reach out. Thank you so muchfor tuning in to this episode. I
did want to remind you, becauseI know that not everybody has

(25:23):
heard this announcement that weare changing up our podcast
format, and what that looks likeis that we will be releasing new
episodes in the first week ofthe month and the third week of
the month, so in between thatyou can listen to our other
