Christina Wooten (00:28):
Hey there,
kindred spirits. Welcome to the
show. We are officially in highseason here in Sedona, I went to
wildflower this morning inuptown to get some work done,
and it was packed to the brimwith people in every seat. It
was such a weird transition thathappens when you live here, when
(00:48):
you get reminded of what Sedonaseason is like, it's like, oh,
oh yeah. It's that time of year, time to add a lot of time to
your driving time, to avoidknown trailheads and hit the
outskirts. It's justinteresting. And there are two
different types of people thatcoexist in Sedona. One is the
(01:09):
kind that passionately is alittle bit anti tourist and just
wants to keep Sedona and thebeauty and the energy all to
themselves. And the other typeis the kind of people that
welcome interactions with peoplefrom all walks of life, that
love to see people light up withthe same wonder and joy and
(01:29):
gratitude and awe that Sedonareally inspires. I hope that you
can guess that I am type numbertwo, definitely love to see
people light up with the samejust wonder of the beauty of
Sedona. Welcome to our episode.
This week is part three of ourspecial series. In this series,
(01:50):
we have been exploring the fivelove languages, not just in our
relationships with other people, but in how we experience and
express love in our connectionwith spirit. So I'm sharing some
of the nuggets of wisdom that Igot from the book God speaks
your Love Languages by GaryChapman, and also adding my
insights as a psychic medium, intuition teacher and energy
(02:14):
practitioner. So before we diveinto today's topic, which is
acts of service. I wouldencourage you, if you missed the
first couple of episodes, totake a listen, especially to
Episode one that really moredeeply introduces the concept of
what we are talking about. Andit's especially important if you
aren't familiar with the lovelanguages at all. The first
(02:36):
episode, we talked about thelove language of physical touch.
In the second episode of thisseries, we talked about words of
affirmation. And as I said, inthis episode, we're going to be
talking about the love languageof acts of service. If you are
not familiar with The Five LoveLanguages, I'll give you a
(02:56):
really brief synopsis of theconcept, the concept of The Five
Love Languages is that theyreveal unique ways that we give
and receive love. So each of ushas a natural preference,
whether it's through words, actions, time, touch or gifts,
that makes us feel more deeplyseen and more appreciated. So
(03:18):
when we understand our own lovelanguage and the love language
of those people that are aroundus, we can create more
fulfilling, harmoniousrelationships. We understand how
that person receives love andhow they give love, and we can
acknowledge the efforts thatthey're making and they can
(03:39):
understand us and the ways thatwe give and receive love. And
what we're exploring in thisepisode is how to apply this
understanding to our spiritualconnection to our relationship
with the divine. The Divinespeaks all of the love
languages, but we may feel itbest or feel more connected in
that relationship when we arespeaking and receiving in our
(04:04):
own natural love language, wherewe have already built a deep
connection. So in this series,we're looking at those practices
that can help you more fullydive into expressing your
language and getting thebenefits of that in your
spiritual life, or for those whowant to just more fluently speak
the many different languageswithout being limited to one or
(04:25):
two, you are certainly welcomehere as well. So in talking
about the love language of actsof service, we need to first
understand acts of service andhow that is unique from the
other languages. Acts of serviceis all about experiencing love
through thoughtful action. Soactions really important acts of
service and meaningful support.
(04:50):
So if this is your primary lovelanguage, you probably feel most
loved and most valued whensomeone does something helpful
or supportive like. Making yourcoffee in the morning, doing
your least favorite chore sothat you don't have to do it. It
doesn't even have to come onyour radar. It could also look
(05:10):
like your partner helping outwith a project that you've been
stressing over, or quietlyhandling errands that help to
lighten your load. Honestly,it's less about grand gestures
in acts of service, and moreabout showing that you care
about the concerns of yourpartner. So that intentionality
(05:30):
is very important. So for peoplewho really resonate with acts of
service, actions really speaklouder than words. It's also not
just about doing something forthem. It's also most powerful
when it really shows yourunderstanding of them and your
intentionality to help them. Andthat's highly personal. So it
(05:53):
may not register for them thatdoing the laundry is a gift to
them, if they don't mind doingthe laundry, because that's not
very personal. So maybe you'redoing it thinking, Oh, I'm
speaking this person's lovelanguage. But if it's something
that they don't mind doing, orisn't really a hassle for them,
even though it is their lovelanguage, it may not register as
kind of hitting the right spot, but say instead you take over
(06:18):
doing the taxes. You know, we'rein tax season here for the
family, because they just reallyhate it and stress over it, then
that really shows a morepersonal intention. To show your
love for them. They know thatyou are doing something to help
them, to relieve stress forthem, to offer your gifts of
(06:41):
service to them. So it's ahighly personal language. You
have to know your partner, youwe're not just running around
doing errands. We have tounderstand what their pain
points are and what they needextra help with, or what's going
to alleviate stress for them, and that will be different
(07:03):
person to person to person. Ithink that people whose love
language is acts of service arereally amazing collaborators.
They are so naturally in tunedto noticing where support is
needed, to stepping in to help, often without ever being asked
to do so. They're exceptionallythoughtful, intuitive,
(07:27):
proactive, really. They'rewonderful team players who
genuinely enjoy being part ofsomething bigger and
contributing to a bigger vision.
And their ability to show lovethrough practical action means
that they don't just talk aboutideas. They really like roll up
their sleeves and help bringthose visions to life, which is
(07:48):
important we really need youknow, those extra people who can
move something from the realm ofthought or the astral world into
actual creation here on theplanet. So when we think about
acts of service, we often thinkabout it taking place within an
environment with lots of people, where there is this
(08:09):
collaborative opportunity, andthat may make some introverted
people think, well, that'sdefinitely not me.
But I think acts of service canshow up in examples like the
people who just decide one dayto devote their lives to
planting trees to restore anentire forest, all on their own.
(08:31):
I mean, we've heard of severalstories of that, and no one even
knows that they're doing it for40 plus years, and they may
never even get any credit. I'msure there are so many people
who are contributing and giftingtheir acts of service in
conservation, and we never evenknow about it, but they're
(08:52):
showing their love in a way thatall can benefit from, for the
purposes of the next generation, for the purposes of the
environment, for the world tobenefit, not for, you know,
selfish desire. And I think thatthis really shows up in people
as well who are drawn to animalrescues or animal conservation
(09:13):
that they want to help thosethat really need it, and that
includes all the special beingson our planet. But more than
anything, the acts of service, love language reminds me of the
spiritual archetype of theBodhisattva, which is a
compassionate soul who choosesservice as their sacred path. A
(09:33):
bodhisattva is a term fromBuddhist teachings that refers
to an enlightened being who, outof this gift of deep compassion,
dedicates themselves to helpingothers achieve spiritual
liberation, to achieve freedomfrom suffering, and rather than
seeking personal enlightenmentalone, because they have
(09:54):
achieved that level, they'reable to become one with all
again, they choose to remainconnected to the world. Called
embodying kindness, embodyingservice, being a beacon of
unconditional love to helpothers, and like the
Bodhisattva, people with thislove language naturally channel
love and healing energy througheveryday actions. They
(10:18):
intuitively sense where they'remost needed. And there's
something really inspiring inthe way that they take ordinary
tasks, these things that we haveto do every day, and somehow
turn it into this greater act oflove and devotion and that
touches everyone around them.
It's just an energy that upliftspowerful, powerful stuff, if
(10:39):
this is your love language. Nowlet's explore that from the
spiritual side. So in thespiritual sense, acts of service
can be experienced more directlyin five ways. So there's five
different things that you cando, or practices that may really
resonate with you that help youfeel more deeply connected to
(11:00):
your higher self, to the divine.
So let's talk about these fiveways. The first one is
connecting with AscendedMasters. So this is about tuning
into the wisdom, to the lovingexamples, the inspiration that
we have of the Ascended Masters, those are the enlightened beings
(11:21):
who've dedicated themselves toserving humanity, to guiding
spiritual growth, to help peopleto excel and grow their
consciousness. So if this isyour love language, by drawing
inspiration from their lives, from their teachings, you are
connecting to this highervibration of service and
compassion. When you alignyourself with the energy of
(11:45):
figures, whether it's Quan Yinor Jesus or Krishna or Buddha or
Tara or whoever really resonateswith you, you open yourself up
to becoming a channel for thiscompassionate energy, for
guidance, for support, gives youthat inspiration to continue to
keep going, to be this beautifulbeacon of love. On the other
(12:07):
side, sometimes we need thatmodel that we can aspire to that
really pushes us out of ourcomfort zone when we're tired,
or we're just kind of donegiving, or we're over it, you
know, having the thought of, youknow, what would the divine?
What would these embodiments ofthe divine in the Ascended
(12:27):
Masters? How would they respondto this moment? And it allows us
to rise up to a deeper place. Soconnecting with Ascended
Masters, bringing that you know, statuary, in bringing that
model, in learning about them, and just connecting more with
those that resonate with you canbe really helpful. The second is
(12:49):
the philosophy of seva, orselfless service. So Seva is a
Sanskrit word that meansselfless service, and it's just
a spiritual practice that'srooted in offering kindness and
compassion without expectation, without the desire for reward.
It's just this mindful act ofgiving freely. So whether that's
(13:10):
volunteering your time at a soupkitchen, helping clean up at a
local park or pick up trash downthe road. We had some people
doing that just a few days ago,and it was amazing to see so
many people really dedicated tojust cleaning up. It wasn't one
or two, it was like 10 peopleall out there, which was really
(13:32):
awesome to see. It was nice tosee that this time or it can
just be quietly, you know, helping someone who is
struggling, spending extra timeor investing more in people who
need your help, seva helps tostrengthen our spiritual heart.
Through selfless acts, youbecome like a sacred instrument,
(13:52):
this vessel of divine lovethat's extending that loving
energy outward into the world.
And it's a beautiful gift. It'ssomething that the act, in and
of itself, is great reward to beable to offer that to others. So
we have the connection withAscended Masters, SEVA and
selfless service. And numberthree is creating or stewarding
(14:13):
sacred space for others. Ireally love this one. When you
create or you hold sacred space, whether you're building a stupa,
a medicine wheel, you're hostingspiritual retreats, you're
leading a Reiki share, you'reperforming a special act of
spiritual service. You'reintentionally curating and
(14:34):
protecting an environment whereothers can safely connect with
their spiritual nature. They canheal. They can expand their
consciousness in a safe space, stewarding, say. Space could
also mean nourishing people atretreats, tending a meditation
garden, or simply creating aninviting, spiritually nourishing
(14:55):
place in your home, thatoffering from your heart and
that stewardship supports thespiritual journeys of the people
around you, and can really givethem space to make big shifts,
to go to the next level in theirlife. When people feel safe,
they're allowing themselves awhole new level of growth, and
(15:16):
that is incredible to witness.
It's an honor to be able tocreate that kind of sacred space
for others, either physically oralso in how we hold space for
other people. And maybe youdon't have physical space that
you can offer for this purpose, and you don't have to, you can
(15:37):
help steward special places too.
So lots of retreat centersacross the world welcome
volunteers. They need that help.
They would love to have peoplecome and be hands and hearts in
retreat centers, the Amitabhastupa and Peace Park here in
Sedona welcomes volunteers andyou can become a part of holding
(15:59):
important space for otherpeople, especially the places
that mean something special toyou. To be able to contribute to
that is pretty phenomenal.
Number four is meta meditation,or chanting and praying for
other people. If you've beenwith our podcast for a while,
you've definitely heard us talkabout the value of meta
(16:19):
meditation. It's sometimescalled a loving kindness
meditation. It involves chantingor praying or visualizing the
well being of others with deepintention, it really helps us to
grow our heart, to send waves ofkindness and healing to
individuals, to communities andthe world as a whole, which is
(16:39):
so needed right now. The worldis so hungry for that love right
now, and when you practice meta, you're engaging in that
spiritual act of service byintentionally radiating that
love and positive energyoutward. And it's a beautiful
reminder of how our thoughts andintentions can uplift other
(17:00):
people, even if at a distance.
It doesn't matter how far awaythey are, whether you've even
met them before, we can stilloffer positive energy to benefit
them. We did an episode on thiscalled meta meditation for
forgiveness, episode 160 and ifyou would like to learn more
(17:21):
about that practice, or youreally want to work on healing,
or if you are just feelingreally stressed right now,
please listen to meta meditationfor forgiveness, episode 160
because it is a practice thatreally eases so much of our our
heart right now, I found itreally helpful as a practice in
(17:42):
this kind of world at themoment. Now, you may feel guided
to meta meditation, or you couldfeel guided to dedicate your
mantra chanting practice tosomeone on behalf of someone.
It's a similar gift of energyand love that you're sharing. I
know every time that I talk tomy aunt, she tells me that she
(18:03):
prays for me every night, andthat really means so much to me.
It's a selfless and loving giftthat she gives me every night.
She holds me in her heart. Andso if you do that for others, it
is a beautiful gift that you'regiving. So whether it's meta
meditation, whether you arededicating your mantra practice
(18:24):
to others or meditating forothers benefit, or simply
praying for them, that can be anincredible gift of service. And
the last one, number five isprayer flags and peace poles.
Hanging prayer flags orinstalling peace poles is just
another simple but a powerfulform of spiritual service.
(18:45):
Traditionally, prayer flags arethese pieces of fabric that
carry blessings, intentions andprayers that are spread by the
wind. So every time the windblows through them, it's sending
that healing vibration and thatintention to all beings who
encounter it, and just kind ofsends that wave of loving energy
(19:06):
out and peace poles alsobroadcast a message of harmony
and hope and just affirm thatintention of peace and unity and
ground it into the earth, and itjust broadcasts that message out
into the environment. As we dothat, it's this continuously
performed act of service. Sojust by hanging it up, or just
(19:27):
by installing the poll. It'syou're sending that out
constantly, which I think isreally, really a big bang for
the buck in the amount of, youknow, time you're putting in.
It's the intention of thataction and how it carries
forward your your love and yourintention for the world that's
(19:47):
really beautiful, and you'reallowing that in. Intention to
impact the environment aroundyou for the benefit of all, and
hopefully it reminds you also,in moments of weakness, of your
greater intentions out into theworld. So just to recap, we can
experience acts of servicereally directly in our
(20:08):
connection with Ascended Mastersthrough save a selfless service,
through creating or stewardingsacred space for other people in
meta meditation or dedicatedspiritual practice for others,
prayer flags and peace poles.
And I like to also share some ofthe different dialects that Dr
Chapman speaks about in the Godspeaks your love language book,
(20:30):
and mainly his recommendationfor acts of service is
spiritually inspiredvolunteering. So in the book, he
uses examples like cooking forothers or building things or
using your special skills, whatever they happen to be, as
being an act of service. And Ithink volunteering in ways that
align with your spiritual valuesor your intuition, like
(20:55):
conservation projects, communitygardens, hospice volunteering. I
know so many beautiful healerswho are hospice volunteers. It
reflects this deep spiritualcalling. People with acts of
service, love language, oftenintuitively know. They just know
where their presence and effortsare the most needed, and serving
(21:16):
in that capacity is a profoundway of just channeling spiritual
guidance into real world impactto really being able to make a
difference, which so many of usjust that's what we want, is a
legacy of having been able tomake a difference to someone in
the world energetically tosupport them in a greater way of
(21:37):
being and expressing themselves.
And you can think about yourparticular skills, the gifts
that you have, and see howyou're inspired to help. Or if
there's a population that youfeel really needs your support,
maybe people who have beenforgotten, who just need some
(21:58):
hands to be on site. Or maybeyou know what your skill set is
more mental. It's not as like, let me just sit here and build a
house for you instead. It's youknow, let me help manage your
social media. I've done thatvolunteer work before let me
help assist in a websitecreation. So there's a lot of
(22:19):
mental things that can be actsof service, too. And that brings
me to something that I'd lovefor you to reflect on this week.
So whether acts of service isyour primary level language or
not, I think there's reallypowerful growth and healing when
we learn to express our lovethrough meaningful action,
(22:40):
through thoughtful service, through intentionality. So I
want you to take a moment andjust connect with yourself and
ask on that deeper level, whenwas the last time it really felt
like your hands your heart werea channel for something greater
to work through you. And how canyour spirit expand if you just
(23:02):
view some of these acts ofkindness and service as
opportunities to connect morewith yourself, the higher self
of others, the universe, soseeing service as connection.
Now maybe it's consciouslychoosing one compassionate deed
that you can do each day, orjust quietly offering your help
(23:22):
to someone who needs it. Maybeit's shoveling a neighbor's
driveway. Maybe it's watching afriend's dog while they're out
of town, or creating sacredspace for someone else. Maybe
it's building a labyrinth andinviting others to come and
enjoy and appreciate the workthat you've done and the energy
(23:43):
that you're holding there.
Perhaps it's dedicating yourmeditation or prayers towards
the well being of other people.
But whatever speaks to you, Iencourage you to practice one
small spiritual act of servicethis week, and just notice how
that deepens your sense ofconnection, not only to others,
(24:04):
but also to your own spirit, tothe part of you that wants to
generously Give and wants toacknowledge your connection in
the web of life, how you cancontribute generously, fully
with your heart and with yourhands. And of course, if you
know people whose primary lovelanguage is acts of service,
(24:24):
Let them know there is so muchmore depth and beauty to explore
in this love language when wetake it to the next level, which
I think it's a good time for usto do that now, next time we are
going to explore the spiritualside of the gifts love language.
So we still have a lot touncover. We have gifts still
(24:46):
coming, and we also have qualitytime. But if you'd like to
review the. Other lovelanguages, feel free. Those are
already published and availablefor you, so stay tuned. We still
have a lot to uncover, and Iwould love to hear your
thoughts, personally, yourinsights about your love
(25:06):
language. You can share themwith me at Instagram,
@SedonaMedium, or on Facebook atSedona Medium. All right,
everyone sending you so muchlove, light and blessings this
week. See you next time manyblessings. The
