We’d love to hear from you, send us a text about your favorite show!

Let’s talk about the love language of gifts — often misunderstood and sometimes dismissed as materialistic. But what if I told you it’s actually deeply connected to abundance, reciprocity, and the powerful flow of giving and receiving? People with this love language are often more than just gift-givers; they’re cultivating a dynamic energy of generosity, where both the act of giving and receiving creates a beautiful exchange that reflects the abundance of the universe.

In this episode, we’ll dive into how the love language of gifts isn’t just about the physical gifts — it’s about opening ourselves to the expansive energy of abundance that flows through us when we share with others. Gifts are a sacred expression of love and connection, and through them, we can tap into a deeper sense of generosity, joy, and spiritual alignment. It’s a love language that encourages us to receive as much as we give — and when we do, we unlock a richer, more fulfilling relationship with Spirit.

In episode four of our special five-part series on the Spirituality of the Love Languages, we're diving into Gifts.  By embracing the power of gifts, you’ll experience a fuller flow of abundance — not just materially, but spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.

(00:28):
Hey there, kindred spirits.
Welcome to Modern Life andSpirit podcast. It's Christina
Wooten, certified psychic mediumfrom SedonaMedium.com Welcome to
our episode today. We have somuch to talk about in our
special series. It's been reallywonderful to be able to do a
series where we could divedeeply and spend some time in
each of these areas. So this hasbeen really, really fun for me.

(00:51):
I hope that you have enjoyedthis deep dive into the
spirituality of the lovelanguages. But I'm not sure if
it is because mercury hasfinally gone direct, or whether
it was just we recently had acold snap and then now it got
warm again, I'm not sure, but Ihave felt so inspired recently,
like just, I'm ready forwelcoming springtime. I hung up

(01:13):
my hummingbird feeders, and wehave had so many visitors
already. I mean, within thefirst hour, we had our first
hummingbirds eating, and thatwas so just heartwarming. You
know, it's really amazing to beable to interact with nature and
to provide a gift for nature.

(01:33):
And I didn't say all of this asa segue into that we're talking
about gifts today, but it justkind of comes out that, that
this was kind of a gift, maybe, that I was giving to the land,
and also, in turn, being able toreceive the blessing of seeing
the hummingbirds come and enjoythe feeder. The one question I
have, so I have one in thefront, one in the back, for

(01:55):
people who are the hummingbirdexperts help me understand this.
So I know that there's lots ofpeople in Sedona who have all of
these feeders, and they so manyof the hummingbirds will just
come up and share. You know, you'll have three or so up on
one feeder. And I don'tunderstand that, because our
Hummingbirds are possessive, andmaybe it's that we just need

(02:18):
more feeders so that they won'tfeel quite as possessive, I'm
not sure. But if you know, ifyou have a crowd of hummingbirds
that are always visiting yourfeeders and they're not running
each other off, please send me amessage and let me know what
your secret is. I want to seeall of them. So I'm not sure
what it is. It's probably that Ijust need more feeders. But if

(02:39):
you know, please let me knowbefore we get started, I did
want to remind you that if youare interested in registering

(03:46):
your lodging and make sure thatyou are registered to continue
expanding your healing andintuitive abilities. Okay, all
that being said, let's talkabout the special love language
series that we have been doing.
So this week is part four of ourspecial series. In this we are
exploring the five lovelanguages, not just in our
relationship with others, but inhow we experience and express

(04:09):
love, in our connection withspirit. So I'm sharing some of
the nuggets of wisdom that I gotfrom the book God speaks your
Love Languages by Gary Chapman, and also my insights as a
psychic medium, intuitionteacher and energy practitioner.
So please make sure you listento episode one that really
introduces the concept moredeeply of what we're talking
about here, which is especiallyimportant if you aren't as

(04:31):
familiar with the lovelanguages. To begin with, the
first episode, we dove into thelove language of physical touch.
In the second episode, we talkedabout words of affirmation. Last
week we covered acts of service, and this week, we are sharing
about the love language ofgifts. If you aren't familiar
with the five love languages, which were first introduced by

(04:52):
Dr Gary Chapman, I'll give youjust a really brief synopsis of
the concept. But. Concept of TheFive Love Languages is that they
reveal the unique ways that wegive and receive love in our
relationships. So each of us hasa natural preference, whether
it's through words, actions, time, touch or gifts, that makes
us feel really deeply seen andappreciated in our

(05:16):
relationships. So when weunderstand our own love language
as well as the love language ofthe people that are very close
with us, we create morefulfilling, harmonious
relationships. And what we'reexploring in this episode is how
to apply that understanding toour spiritual connection and our
relationship with the divine. Sothe divine, of course, speaks

(05:40):
all of the love languages, butwe may feel it best. We may feel
that connection best when we arespeaking and receiving love in
our own natural love language.
So in this series, we're lookingat what practices can help you
more fully dive into expressingthis language and getting the

(06:02):
benefits of that in yourspiritual life. Or for those
that want to just more fluently, learn to speak the many
different love languages withoutbeing limited to one or two
languages, you are welcome heretoo. So in this episode, we're
diving into the love language ofgifts. This is such a
fascinating love languagebecause it isn't about
materialistic things at all. Anda lot of people assume that they

(06:28):
don't resonate with thisparticular love language because
they're connecting it withmaterialism, but it's because
this is a very misunderstoodlove language. There is a
judgment that sometimes exists, that people with this love
language are materialistic, orthat loving them would be really
expensive. But this could not befurther from the truth. People

(06:53):
with this love language areoften actually incredibly
sentimental. They treasurememories, shared experiences,
small, little tokens thatsymbolize really big feelings
within them. And while the wordsgifts describes the mechanics of

(07:13):
what's happening, there's anexchange. I've often wished that
Dr Chapman had named this lovelanguage, something like
sentimental attachment, becausethat would have been much more
accurate and I think, relatableto people, they would understand
and maybe have less judgmentaround this love language,
because it's all veryunnecessary to help you think

(07:36):
about it differently. Let'simagine this so you go on a
special trip, you have savedyour money, you've worked really
hard. Being there is just adream fulfilled. And while
you're there, you find a littlesouvenir. Maybe it's not flashy
or very expensive, but it'ssomething that when you use it

(07:58):
or you see it later, it makesyou, you know feel good. It
makes you smile. You rememberhow you felt. You remember who
you were with the laughs thatyou had, the silly memories, the
weird detours along the way, andthat souvenir that you bought
becomes this physical anchor forall of that love and for all of

(08:20):
that joy of that moment that isthe heart of this love language.
Now expand that to gifts thatyou receive from others. So
maybe someone gave you a crystalbracelet with a stone for
healing because they knew youwere going through something
particular, or they wanted tosupport you in some way. And

(08:41):
when you wear it, you don't justsee the bracelet, right? You see
the care, the presence, the lovethat came with it, the how your
friend knows you. It'sbeautiful. It's beautiful that
just seeing that becomes thisanchor for all of these really

(09:01):
great feelings of gratitude andappreciation and feeling seen
and feeling loved and feelingunderstood. So chances are that
you have already been speakingthis love language without even
realizing it. Maybe you drop offsoup for a sick friend when you
grab your partner's favoritesnack just because, or when you

(09:24):
send flowers to somebody thatyou know has had a really hard
week or they're going through atough patch, this love language
is just sweet and thoughtful.
And with this episode, I hopethat we can dispel the myth that
it's all about money, becausefor people who resonate with
this language, it never hasbeen. So let me share two
personal examples. So severalmonths ago, a dear friend who

(09:47):
had lost their husband came overfor dinner and she brought me a
beautiful Selenite wand, a giftthat she didn't have to give,
but it's. One that I willcherish forever, not just
because I love crystals and Ido, I do, but because I love who
gave it to me so it carries herenergy, her love, and that's

(10:10):
what matters to me deeply. Now,to be clear, my love language is
not gifts, but I've grown toreally respect this love
language, because it took me awhile to understand it. And then
there's my Mimi, who's mygrandmother who's passed away,
but one year, she gifted mysister a gallon size bag full of
plastic utensil kits. You knowwhat I'm talking about. It's the

(10:36):
fork and the knife and the spoonand the napkin like all wrapped
up. It was just bag full ofthese utensil kits. See, my
sister brought lunch to schoolevery single day. She was still
in high school, and my Mimi hadbeen quietly collecting those
utensil kits all year just tomake her life a little bit
easier. So at that time, it mayhave seemed really small, but

(11:00):
now as an adult, it makes mereally emotional, because that
bag was filled with love thatevery day, every opportunity she
could, she grabbed those wrappedutensils to just make it one bit
easier, and every time she didit, she was thinking about
trying to help someone aroundher and show that she cared,

(11:22):
that she loved them, and that'swhat this language is all about.
What I think is really neatabout people whose love language
is gifts is that, of course,it's not just about receiving
gifts, okay? It's about giftingand expressing themselves and
their love through gifts, andthey naturally seem to excel and
also be a little bit intuitiveabout noticing these details

(11:47):
about people, and sometimespicking up on really subtle cues
about what brings others joy.
And they often express thosethings through creativity,
thoughtfulness, generosity, andjust have this intuitive knack
for finding just the right giftto help someone around them, or

(12:11):
to uplift them or inspire them,or just kind of speak to what
their needs are. There is suchan intuitiveness to that. And I
think that you know around theholidays, we're all like wanting
more of that intuitive gift. Soif you have people who are
nearby, who are love languagegift, people make sure you tap

(12:32):
that incredible intuitive talentthat they have, spiritually, I
see this love language reflectedin traditions that have been a
part of our collective humanstory for centuries. Many
indigenous cultures, forexample, offer sacred herbs,
tobacco, corn meal, to the landas a prayer of gratitude or as

(12:57):
an offering when asking forguidance, it's a recognition of
the Spirit that exists withinnature, and the understanding
that we as people live inrelationship with the earth. And
in other traditions, people tendto use shrines and altars with
offerings of fruit and flowersand incense or light, gifts of

(13:19):
beauty and reverence that aregiven to the divine. And these
are not transactional acts. Theyare true expressions of heart,
of devotion, of love andacknowledgement. And at another
spiritual level, the lovelanguage of gifts reflects
something foundational as wellthe sacred energy of

(13:42):
reciprocity. When we give withintention and receive with
openness, we participate in anatural flow of abundance in the
universe, it's not just aboutthe object. It's this energetic
exchange that happens throughthe giving, and when we receive

(14:03):
with gratitude, that energymagnifies, and it becomes a
circuit of love, of spiritualconnection that keeps flowing.
So whether you're offeringsomething to a loved one, to
spirit, to the land itself.
You're participating in thisdance of giving and receiving

(14:23):
and this ultimate symbol ofabundance. And what's so
beautiful is that it teaches ussomething important, that we are
not alone in the world. We arein this constant
interconnection. We're inconstant relationship with it
and all that is now let'sexplore this from the spiritual

(14:45):
perspective. So if this is yourlove language, something that
would be beneficial for you issacred offerings. Across many
spiritual traditions, makingofferings to the Divine is a. A
symbolic and a very heartfeltpractice, whether it's placing
flowers on that altar, whetherit's lighting a candle, offering

(15:07):
incense, leaving food for theancestors, these acts of
devotion carry an energeticimprint. It's not about the
object specifically that you'reoffering. It's about the
intention, the reverence, thelove, the gratitude behind it,
and offering something of valuebecomes that sacred exchange. So

(15:31):
it's a moment of acknowledgementof your relationship and your
responsibility in yourrelationship with the divine.
And for those whose spiritualloving which is gifts, this is a
way to connect to spirit throughthe ritual of giving, creating
that bridge for you between ourworld and the world of spirit,

(15:56):
and for people who feel thedivine more through the lens of
the earth or more from ashamanic perspective, it could
also look like making offeringto the earth or to the animals,
like hanging up hummingbirdfeeders or leaving water out for
the animals. But when we makeofferings from the heart, that

(16:18):
energy always comes back to us.
And then some. There's apractice in gardening as well
that I think connects with this, where you plant a certain number
or certain percentage of extraplants that you know are going
to be offered out to the animalswho are grazing or sacrifice to

(16:45):
them in exchange for the factthat you are harvesting a
certain amount, you're plantinga certain amount as well that
can be partaken of by theanimals around and that's a
beautiful way of again, givingthanks, giving thanks for your
Harvest. All right, so our firstone is sacred offering. So
making those gifts to the earth,to the Divine, to spirit,

(17:08):
whatever way feels resonant foryou. Number two is receiving
spiritual tools or symbols. Sosometimes Spirit gives us gifts
in the form of some of thesacred tools that we use in our
personal practice. Or, if you'rea healer, the things that you
use in your healing practice orto help other people. It could

(17:30):
be an Oracle deck that justcalls your name and really
connects with you and resonatesto your energy and is so
accurate for you. It could be acrystal that you're just
inexplicably drawn to and feellike you can't put down at the
store. Or it can be a book thatshows up at the right time, and

(17:51):
you just think, Oh, I was justtalking about this the other
day. These items can carry acertain medicine, a certain
spirit to them, and they can bethat physical reminder of the
support, the guidance, the lovefrom the universe. When your
love language is gifts, receiving something symbolic or

(18:12):
something that's spirituallycharged, especially if it's in a
synchronistic way, really doesfeel like a personal sign from
spirit. But the key with this isthat you have to be paying
attention and using yourdiscernment to know when
something is intended for you,and that also means that we have

(18:32):
to be able to release and let goand not attach to something that
isn't intended for us. So I'm arock hound, which means that I'm
constantly, like, walkingaround, looking down my feet, or
looking down at the differentstones and so forth. That's how
I find a lot of pottery piecesand so forth here in my yard,
because I'm always looking atthe rocks. But there are

(18:54):
occasionally things that I'llpick up and just, oh, it's so
beautiful. It has such a greatenergy. I love this, and I'll
feel inside this isn't for me. Ihave to leave it. I have to put
it back down, and that's hard, but it makes those moments, when
it is for me, feel even morespecial. It gives that such an
energy of ah, this is my vibe.
This is my frequency. This isperfectly intended for me that

(19:19):
makes it even more of a gift. Sonumber one is sacred offerings.
Number two is receiving ourspiritual tools or symbols.
Number three is intentioninfused objects, for those who
express their love throughgiving the act of creating
something and gifting it toanother person. Can feel really

(19:41):
intimate. This can be a handmadeprayer bead strand, a written
blessing, a Reiki chargedcandle. It can be a thoughtfully
chosen object that is. Justmeant to support someone's
healing journey. But when youinfuse an item, when you're

(20:04):
creating it with energy, withlove, with intention, you're
turning something ordinary intosomething really special. And
when someone receives it, theyoften they can feel that care.
They can feel the essence thatis imbued in that gift, and it
becomes a blessing that gives tothem again and again and again.

(20:27):
It's very, very special when wehave something that is really
created specifically for us. Ifyou're that person who struggles
with creating things, or, youknow, you have a vision, but it
just doesn't seem to cometogether when you sit down with
all of your objects to getstarted crafting something, or

(20:47):
designing it, or commissioning apiece from another artist. Can
also be something that you knowconnects with this, that
intention infused objects whereyou're creating something really
special for someone and verycustomized to them, is very
beautiful. Number four is signsfrom spirit. Sometimes the most

(21:12):
meaningful gifts that we getdon't come from people, but it
comes from the universe itself.
So maybe that could be a featheron your path, a really well
timed song lyric, a repeatingnumber pattern, or coins that

(21:35):
you find just when you're reallyneeding some reassurance or
you're just needing to feel moreconnected. These are all special
signs for someone whosespiritual love language is
gifts. Those little, small, magical signs really feel like
little love notes from the otherside that again, it's that

(21:55):
tangible reminder that you arebeing guided, that you're being
watched over, that you aresupported. And the best signs
often arrive at just the rightmoment when you are asking for
clarity or comfort, and theyoffer that sense of awe and
connection that goes beyond justthe physical object, because

(22:15):
it's not about if you find acoin, it's not about the coin
itself. It's about how it gotthere, the time that it came
into your life, how importantyou are to the other side, to
manifest such a beautifulacknowledgement of your journey
and how loved you are. That iswhat that coin represents, and

(22:39):
our last one is gratitude as apractice, creating a gratitude
list. I know we've heard it amillion times, and it may seem
like a simple practice, but itis important to people with
gifts. Love Language, because itis your act of acknowledging the

(23:00):
many gifts in your life, boththe seen and the unseen that you
have been given. When yourspiritual love language is
gifts, this practice becomes away to deepen receptivity, to
recognize the abundance thatflows into your life every day
it might be gratitude for thefood on your table, for having a

(23:23):
safe place to rest, for thekindness of a friend, having the
best cashier that daythat checks you out of the
grocery store, but also it'sabout those intangible things,
so inner peace, clarity afterthe storm, a moment of beauty
that really touched you or movedyou. Writing those things down

(23:46):
becomes more of a reflection, and it becomes a way of honoring
that flow that we talked about, the flow of abundance, the flow
of love and grace that's in yourlife actively. And it's a way to
say, I see these blessings, I'mreceiving them with openness,
thank you, and that vibrationjust creates even more

(24:10):
resonance. With that energy ofof love and exchange and
abundance flowing to you. Whenyou do a gratitude list
regularly, you get into thehabit of really looking for
things that make you feelgrateful, and those are things,
not just externally, butinternally. And you begin to see

(24:31):
yourself differently, and youbegin to see your circumstances
differently, and you begin to bein that deeper flow of abundance
that is changing your vibration.
It's changing your energy. Oneof the most powerful vibrations
we saw from Dr emotos work.
Please look it up if you are notfamiliar with messages from

(24:53):
water by Dr Emoto is that themost profound. Vibration when
the most transformativeenergies, the most
transformative vibration is loveand gratitude on physical matter
that is important. So imaginewhat you're doing in your body

(25:14):
when you really align with thisenergy. Imagine what you're
doing to your vibration whenyou're living more in alignment
with those higher principles ofnatural law. Wow, that is big
stuff. So simple, yes, but don'toverlook it very big in our

(25:34):
energy field, especially forthose with this powerful love
language. So I like to sharesome of the different dialects
that Dr Chapman speaks about inGod speaks your love language.
And of course, if you havefinancial resources, you can
offer monetary gifts to others.

(25:54):
That's you know, one bigrecommendation, right? And you
can support the people or thecommunities that you believe in,
or you can pay attention foropportunities that you can
contribute to, like go fund mesthat connect with your personal
mission. Maybe you can alignwith other organizations which
help fund women owned businessesor help fund people in third

(26:19):
world countries who are seekingmore financial independence, but
if you don't have extrafinancial resources, that's
okay. You can gift the world andpeople and communities that you
love with other things. So don'tbe caught up in the limit or the
idea of it is beingmaterialistic or having to be

(26:41):
centered around money. You cangive the world other things. You
can give encouragement or othergestures that are sharing some
of your many resources that youdo have access to, your internal
resources, and also yourmaterial resources that you have
access to Now, here's what Iwant you to integrate as you go

(27:04):
deeper into working with thislove language. It's important to
recognize that when you'realigned with the gifts love
language, whether you are askingfor help in prayer, whether
you're calling in support fromyour guides, whether you're
working with manifestation, yourintention matters deeply. The
most powerful prayers andmanifestations are always rooted

(27:27):
in generosity, in love and inservice. It's not just about
what you want to give. It'sabout why you want to give it
when your desire is fueled bythe wish to uplift other people,
to nurture your relationships,to share your light more fully

(27:48):
with the world, the energy getsamplified. For example, instead
of simply saying, I need moretime off for myself, you might
say, I ask for more time so thatI can create loving memories
with my family and be reallypresent with them. There's a
huge energetic difference that Iwant more time off versus I ask

(28:12):
for more time so that I cancreate loving memories with my
family and be fully present withthem. And that is important,
that's an offering of yourenergy, your attention, your
presence as a sacred gift. Andwhen the motive is generous, the
spiritual flow of giving andreceiving opens even wider. You

(28:35):
become more in the flow ofabundance and receiving and
deeper connection. So thatbrings us to something I'd love
for you to reflect on this week, whether gifts is your primary
love language or not, there'spowerful growth when we learn to
express through the spirit ofgenerosity. So I want you to

(28:55):
take a moment and just gentlyask yourself, how might my
spirit open even more if Iviewed giving and receiving as a
spiritual practice, one thatkeeps me in rhythm with the
universe, being in rhythm withthe universe, maybe it's
creating or choosing ameaningful gift for someone that

(29:17):
you love and infusing it withintention before you pass it
along. Maybe it's noticing andacknowledging the spiritual
gifts that you have alreadyreceived, like guidance or
beauty, friendship, healing, expressing your thanks through a
gratitude practice. Or maybeit's just pausing when a feather

(29:39):
crosses your path or when themessage arrives at the right
time, and letting yourself fullyreceive that moment as the
sacred gift that it is, notfocusing on the thing, but on
what it means behind it, thatdeeper connection. So whatever
resonates with you, I encourageyou to engage. With this energy

(30:01):
of giving, with generosity, withreceiving, this week in a way
that feels spiritually alive foryou, notice how the universe
speaks through the gifts thatyou are given, and how your
offerings, no matter how small, ripple outward as love in the
world. And of course, if youknow people whose primary love

(30:23):
language is gifts, make sure youshare this episode with them so
that they can understand there'sso much more depth and beauty to
explore in their love language, and it may help others who have
struggled with the misconceptionthat the gifts love language is
materialistic, or people who'verejected it within themselves

(30:45):
because they felt like they wereso limited by their financial
resources that they didn't knowhow to express that out into the
world. Next time we're going toexplore the spiritual side of
quality time the last of ourlove language series. So stay
tuned. We still have that tocover. I would love to hear your
thoughts, your insights aboutyour love language. You can
