If you’ve ever heard someone mention the “5–5–5 postpartum rule” and wondered, okay…but what does that actually look like in real life? This episode is your new best friend.
We’re breaking down the 5–5–5 rule the way we explain it to our own clients:
five days in your bed,
five days on your bed,
five days around your bed…
and zero days trying to pretend you didn’t just grow and birth a whole human.
We talk about what’s really happening in your body after birth (yes, including the dinner-plate-sized internal wound nobody warns you about), why your hormones and adrenaline trick you into thinking you’re fine, and how that “quick trip to Target” on day three is usually the moment everything hits the fan.
We also get into the messy, practical stuff — what this looks like when you have a toddler, when your partner can’t take time off, when family wants to come hold the baby but not the laundry, and how to ask for actual help instead of the kind where someone brings a onesie and leaves.
This isn’t about doing nothing. It’s about doing less, on purpose, so your body can do the healing it’s already trying so hard to do.
If you’re pregnant, planning postpartum, or supporting someone who is, this episode gives you the honest, real-world version of the 5–5–5 rule — the one that leaves space for grace, rest, and everything you’re carrying (physically and emotionally) in those first weeks home.

Ruthie's Table 4
For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
