One in five new mums and one in ten new dads are affected by perinatal depression and anxiety, which impact approximately 100,000 families in Australia each year.
In this conversation, Julie Borninkhof, CEO of PANDA (Perinatal Anxiety & Post Natal Depression) discusses the complexities of perinatal anxiety and depression. She highlights the importance of recognising the signs and symptoms, the impact of circumstantial factors on mental health, and the need for support. Many of us put our challenges down to other factors and early parenthood without getting the support we need. We discuss how this can impact our relationships and possible relationship breakdowns. The discussion also covers the significance of birth experiences and the necessity of seeking help early.
Perinatal Mental Health Week is coming up from November 17th to the 23rd.This Perinatal Mental Health Week, PANDA is encouraging Australians to make the call to the PANDA helpline and get immediate, specialised support from someone who has been there.
