Money anxiety loses its grip when saving stops feeling like punishment and starts feeling like self-care. We dig into World Savings Day with a simple truth: small, steady steps beat unsustainable sprints. You’ll hear how to link every dollar to a purpose, automate progress, and turn a $5-a-day habit into calm, confidence, and control—just in time for the holiday rush.

We walk through practical tactics you can use right away: naming your funds for emergencies, travel, or a big purchase; using automation to remove friction; and tracking micro-wins so motivation compounds. You’ll learn how to handle impulse spending with a 24-hour pause, a list-first plan, and a “move the money” rule that shifts temptation into a goal-aligned account. Along the way, we explore the emotional side of finance—why saving helps you sleep better, make clearer choices, and feel free to say no to the wrong opportunities.

We also zoom out to the generational level. Building a college fund eases your child’s stress and opens doors. A business reserve helps local owners weather slow seasons and invest in growth. Sharing basic money skills with kids and grandkids changes a family story, and advocating for fair banking expands access for your community. Real client wins bring it to life: an emergency fund replacing paycheck-to-paycheck panic, a planned international trip funded with intention, and small deposits turning into big momentum.

Ready to choose your future on purpose? Start the $5 challenge, write down one habit to improve, and tell a friend to keep you accountable. If this sparked a shift, subscribe, share the episode with someone who needs a calm plan for their money, and leave a quick review so others can find the show.

Wondra (00:01):
Hello and welcome to the Motivational Fuel Podcast.
I am your host, Wondra.
Today we're going to talk aboutsaving with purpose and it is
celebrating World Savings Day,which is on October 31st, the
same day as Halloween.

(00:22):
So I know money really touchesa lot of people's lives.
So I want you to really grabyour costume, your makeup, your
candy, and we can talk aboutsomething that can transform
your future and your savinghabits.

(00:44):
So World Savings Day was knownas World Thrift Day, and it's
been celebrated in 1924 inItaly.
And it was created to raiseawareness about the importance
of saving money, not just forpersonal security, but for the
health of the global economy.

(01:06):
And today reflects on how wecan manage our finances and
prepare for unexpected thingsand build our dreams.
So let's be honest, saving isnot easy.
Life will throw you somecurveballs, expenses will pile

(01:28):
up.

And here's the truth (01:29):
saving is a form of self-care.
You're thinking about yourfuture, your peace, and your
freedom.
So whether you're saving foryour emergency fund, a dream of
vacation, a new business, a newcar, a home, retirement, or that

(01:49):
nice item that you've beeneyeing for years, and you really
want to get it.
So this would be your time tosave every dollar saved, and
you're voting for yourself inyour future.
So you don't need like asix-figure salary.

(02:09):
You can save, just start aplan.
And some tips are you canautomate it, so you can set up
automation to your savingsaccount, you can track it.
Um that you can look at, youcan set like some mini goals,
like a five dollars a day, whichis for seven days in a week, so

(02:36):
about $35 a week.
Or if you want to do $35 justfor that week instead of for
that day.
So once you get your goals set, really celebrated so you can
reward yourself and be mindfuland remember consistency, um, it

(02:58):
beasts out intensity, so yoursmall steps can lead to really
big wins.
So saving isn't for just forfinancial, it's for emotional,
you can feel secure andconfident and control, and ask
yourself you want to have afinancial freedom, and what does

(03:22):
that look like for you?
Are you saving for and why doesit matter?
And how can you save and beempowering to yourself, and you
don't want to make anyrestrictions while you're
saving, and you can connect toyour saving goals and just be

(03:43):
joyful, um, not to have like a achore, just really embrace it
so your saving day, it canremind you of your financial
literacy, and around around theworld, many people they don't
think about saving, it can bewith the banking, your credit,

(04:06):
financial education, and reallyshare with others to teach your
kids, your grandkids, um,re-educate yourself, and this
will limit them from asking youfor money, your kids and your
grandkids, advocating for fairbanking practices, support

(04:30):
things within your community.
And when you're saving, youwant to save wisely.
So let's look at thegenerational side.
So if you're saving not justfor you, you can save, invest,
build, create opportunities foryour kids, your family, and your

(04:53):
community.
So think about it.
If you're saving for yourchild's education, then your
child can have a better futurein college, and they're not
stressing over money, they canfocus on their studies.
If you're a small businessowner, thinking about the

(05:14):
weather and things that youwould need to improve and do
with your small business, andwithin your community, you can
share with others, and you canreally break down those barriers
of others not understandingabout having a savings.
So the savings account issomething that you can look at,

(05:40):
you can save yourself at thebank, get others to help you out
with saving too.
So this week I did ask some ofmy coaching individuals
regarding some steps and someupdates about saving.
One is saving for their kids'college fund because every

(06:02):
dollar is like a future gift tothe child.
One is saving for emergencyfund instead of living paycheck
to paycheck, and it's amazing.
And one is saving for a trip, avacation international, so they
would not have to worry abouttheir expenses on the trip, they

(06:25):
will have it and plan for it.
So, whether your goal is big orsmall, just make sure it s for
you, very meaningful, it'spowerful, and it's worth so.

Imagine this (06:40):
you are at the grocery store, you're thinking
about impulse buying, that's notaligned to your goals, so put a
plan in action for that impulsebuying, and you can think about

(07:00):
it as putting one five dollarsaside for seven days, which is
thirty-five dollars, which ispretty cool.
If you're not going into yourdifferent funds, so have your
travel fund, your emergencyfund, and those small wins will

(07:24):
really help out with yoursavings, and think about your
mental aspect of it from thesavings less stressful, anxiety
is a peace of mind.
You can have that littlecushioning, you can sleep

(07:44):
better, you can be calmer, notpanicking, you can really feel
empowered, and you're nottrapped at what you're doing,
and you can have time to preparefor it.

And think about this (08:04):
if you grew up in a household where you
did not have a lot of money, you're really breaking that
cycle, you're really showingyourself how to look at your
finances and be empowered andpowerful, and you know, don't
ever feel ashamed about themoney that you're bringing in,

(08:28):
just know you are capable, you're worthy, you're learning,
and that is enough.
So, your saving challenge foryou, like I said, do your five
dollars, your ten dollars, or ahundred dollars.
You can start off very small, name it , and look up and say,

(08:53):
Hey, I saved $35 this week, keepgoing, and you can let this
money stack up, and your goalcan be to save a hundreds of
dollars.
You think about it, thirty-fivedollars twice that's seventy
dollars for two weeks, and onceyou get in the habit of saving,

(09:16):
that can be really impactful andpowerful for you.
So, think about increasing it.
You can look at the savingsaccounts.
If you need to teach yourself, definitely teach yourself.
So, before we wrap up today, Iwant to really thank you and

(09:39):
invite you to ask yourself, whatis one thing that I can do in
honor of World Savings Day?
And what is one money habit orfinancial habit that I want to
improve on, and what's one goalI want to save for?
So write it down, say it loud, share with others, and you can

(10:05):
live outside of that wall of notsaving and not thinking about
savings because the holidays arecoming, and you can say, Hey, I
already saved like a hundreddollars or two hundred dollars,

(10:26):
you're not stressing over youryour savings.
So, again, it's World SavingsDay, which is on the 31st.
Happy Halloween if you're outtrick-or-treating, be safe, look
out for others and the kids, just really take your time.
And savings is about a mindsetyou want to invest in yourself,

(10:49):
your dreams, your future, andthis will be very peaceful,
purposeful, and powerful.
And remember, you're not alone, you are part of a global
movement for everyone that'schoosing financial wellness and
one step in a time.
And remember, your future isworth saving for.

(11:11):
Until next time, stay informed, stay empowered, and take care
of yourself.
So, the next episode that Iwill share with you is about
your happiness, what it means, how to protect it, and how to
build a life that feels as goodas it looks.

(11:31):
So, until next time, I hope youhave a great weekend.
Be safe if you're startingtrick-or-treating.
Remember to save and enjoy thepodcast.
Bye bye.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
