Sara (00:07):
Hello, and welcome to
mouse ears and a movie, a Disney
animation conversation.
I'm Sara Farrell baker joined bymy co-host Chrissy Woj
Chrissy (00:16):
we are two grown women
avoiding responsibility and
watching cartoons every episode, except this one, we will be
watching a Disney or Pixaranimated feature, chosen at
random from the bucket.
then we will reconvene here toshare our thoughts, some behind
the scenes knowledge andprobably make some weird noises.
Sara (00:31):
This week, we aren't
watching anything.
It's the season one finale.
So let's talk about all themovies we watched, the ones we
wish we had and the ones wereally wish we hadn't.
Chrissy (00:42):
Let's do it.
Sara (00:43):
Yay.
So this season, I'm gonna try todo this off the top of my head.
We did Bambi little mermaid.
Lelo and stitch, but somethingbefore that hunchback in Notre
Dame, dinosaur that's five,Cinderella bolt.
Oh, Fantasia.
There's one more.
What is it?
Tell me,
Chrissy (00:59):
No chance.
No way.
Sara (01:01):
you don't know.
Chrissy (01:01):
I won't say it.
Sara (01:02):
Oh mother fuck! It's
Hercules.
Chrissy (01:04):
You're welcome for
that.
Sara (01:09):
All right, Chrissy.
like, let's get the basics outof the way.
Best movie.
What was yours?
Chrissy (01:13):
the little mermaid.
Sara (01:14):
Boom.
Yes, correct answer.
That is the best one.
Good Good to know that.
You're
Chrissy (01:18):
Sarah, what was the
worst movie
Sara (01:21):
Bolt.
Chrissy (01:21):
fail?
It was hunchback.
Sara (01:24):
Nope.
Nope.
Okay.
My argument is as such followingnow, bolt has no redeeming
qualities.
There's nothing good about it.
They even have like musicalinclined people who don't do
anything musically.
Good.
I know words.
And then hunchback has.
A shitload of good music, savefor the one about like lusting
(01:46):
after, as Esmerelda and wantingher to burn in hell.
Don't love that one.
but hunchback has a redeemingquality and that redeeming
quality is the music and it getsone half of a redeeming quality
for Jason Alexander.
The end.
Chrissy (01:59):
I I get it with the
music, but I would rather just
go to YouTube and listen to thethree songs that were enjoyable
in that movie.
I would watch bolt again.
Sara (02:09):
Never.
Chrissy (02:10):
I'm not gonna go out of
my way to watch bolt again, but
like, I've got a, baby.
when he's four he'll like bolt,it'll be adorable and charming
Sara (02:21):
My son, went after me for
my stance on bolt.
he loved the movie given he isnine.
So.
Chrissy (02:30):
It's a kid's movie.
Sara (02:31):
There's that it is a kid's
Chrissy (02:32):
Hunchback of Notre Dame
is not
Sara (02:35):
no, it is not, but Disney
really does a great, usually
does a great job of movies thatkids will see, but the parents
can also at least tolerate atthe very least tolerate.
Usually we enjoy them.
Dear God, I hated bolt.
August came after me.
Like he listen to that episodeand he waged war on me.
He changed my phone backgroundto a picture of bolts and he
(02:58):
wrote like, I know what you didor something on it.
oh my God, I forget what else.
He was just like trying to prankme first he came in here and was
giving me.
A fake, very nice.
Like, oh yeah.
It was a funny episode.
You were very good in it.
And then after a moment, when hethought that I felt safe in that
conversation, he was like, whatwere you is the best movie it's
(03:20):
got this it's got, and none ofit was good, but those were his
reasons
Chrissy (03:25):
but he's a kid and it's
a kid.
So like if, if Disney hadn'tmade it, I would've liked it
like point blank, but becauseit's Disney, I have higher
standards for it.
that is where I think it wasbetter than hunchback is because
like hunchback was fuckinghorrible, like traumatizing.
Sara (03:45):
yes.
I look at it this way.
Game of Thrones is traumatizing, but most of game of Thrones is
good.
Whereas.
Chrissy (03:52):
I would say half of
game of Thrones is good.
Sara (03:56):
I would say like five
sevenths of game of Thrones is
good.
but bolt zero sevenths.
Good.
Chrissy (04:03):
I'd give it three
sevenths.
Sara (04:05):
God.
Nope.
Chrissy (04:06):
It was mediocre.
Like it wasn't great.
And it wasn't awful.
It was unmemorable.
Sara (04:12):
Exactly.
It was boring, at least withhunchback.
Like I was horrified, But I wasentertained,
Chrissy (04:19):
But I was also bored by
Hercules and I love Hercules.
Sara (04:23):
yeah.
And we were a little bored by Leand stitch.
And I've seen that like 8,000times though.
Chrissy (04:27):
I did not like Lilo and
stitch very much either.
Like I would put Bolton, Liloand stitch in the same category.
Sara (04:34):
get out of here.
Ma'am.
Chrissy (04:36):
I do not regret what I
just said.
Sara (04:37):
Folks, I hope you have
enjoyed our show.
Chrissy (04:40):
We're no longer
friends.
Sarah is firing
Sara (04:43):
We are coming to an end.
divorcing.
We are consciously uncoupling.
This is done.
just severing everything.
Get out of here.
Ma'am.
Chrissy (04:53):
I said what I said
Sara (04:54):
well after you've said all
the wrong things.
What do you think is the moviethat surprised you?
Chrissy (04:59):
I think dinosaur
surprised me the most because I
was not expecting.
Anything.
I was expecting what I got outof bolt from dinosaur, and I
actually enjoyed dinosaur morethan I thought I would.
Sara (05:13):
Yeah, dinosaur bored the
shit outta me.
Chrissy (05:14):
I didn't love dinosaur
Like I'm not super, but I was
impressed by it.
I thought it was beautifullydone.
Sara (05:21):
It was, it is a very
pretty movie.
Chrissy (05:23):
I, loved the opening
and, and that set me up for
enjoying it, no matter whathappened.
Sara (05:29):
I accept.
Chrissy (05:30):
What about you?
What surprised you?
Sara (05:32):
Fantasia surprised me.
I really enjoyed it.
I had a lot of fun watchingthat.
I still have yet to enjoy itpost gummy, but I mean, I've got
a whole break in the season todo that
Chrissy (05:43):
I kind of wanna do that
too.
Maybe we should do that togetheras a side side quest.
Sara (05:48):
ma'am
Chrissy (05:49):
Ma'am.
Sara (05:49):
yes.
Ma'am
Chrissy (05:50):
that sounds like really
fun.
Sara (05:52):
it.
Chrissy (05:52):
I have many ideas.
We'll talk.
Sara (05:54):
Love.
Chrissy (05:55):
Favorite sidekick.
Sara (05:57):
Ooh.
Chrissy (05:57):
I have many,
Sara (05:58):
Okay.
My favorite sidekick out of allof them probably a three way tie
from the same movie.
And that is
Chrissy (06:07):
Cinderella little
mermaid shit.
Sara (06:10):
Yes, Sebastian flounder
St.
Three way tie, best
Chrissy (06:15):
I would also.
I agree, but I would also addGuus Pegasus and Bruno
Sara (06:21):
Oh, Bruno darling Bruno.
Okay.
I accept.
Chrissy (06:25):
mm-hmm mm-hmm
Sara (06:27):
princess that we had this
season?
Chrissy (06:28):
Ariel
Sara (06:28):
Uh, Duh.
Chrissy (06:30):
she way cooler, Cindy.
Sara (06:31):
She's the best one.
favorite
Chrissy (06:33):
Hades.
Sara (06:34):
Yes.
Oh shit.
That's a very good,
Chrissy (06:37):
I,
Sara (06:38):
favorite.
Chrissy (06:38):
I know you and your
Sara (06:39):
I love my Ursula.
Chrissy (06:41):
I love Ursula.
It was very hard for me to pickHades over her, but I had to
Sara (06:46):
I get it.
I understand.
I I respect this choice.
I won't even say anything meanabout it, cuz it is an equally
good choice.
Chrissy (06:54):
thank you.
Sara (06:54):
biased towards Ursula.
Chrissy (06:56):
Respect.
Like, I, I, I almost went withher and I was like, you know,
Haiti deserves that.
Love Haiti deserves his own TVseries.
Sara (07:03):
If I did not have like a
deep loathing for James Woods, I
would say yes, do it.
Can we get another voice factorin there?
Like they did with.
Robin Williams, not doing theAladdin series and they got
someone else to play Janie andit just wasn't as good.
Chrissy (07:16):
it wouldn't be as good.
Sara (07:17):
know, uh,
Chrissy (07:18):
All right.
Favorite song?
Sara (07:20):
favorite song for the
whole time we were on this.
Ugh.
Chrissy (07:24):
I have like, literally,
like no questions asked.
I have one.
Sara (07:28):
yours first, then
Chrissy (07:28):
No.
Sara (07:29):
God dammit.
Shit.
I think it might be to hero.
Chrissy (07:33):
All right, I'm going
with part of your world.
Sara (07:35):
I was gonna do that, but
then I was like, that's so like
I'm choosing everything littlemermaid.
So I need to take a
Chrissy (07:40):
It's okay.
If you choose everything littlemermaid, it's your favorite?
Sara (07:43):
I know, but I do think I
like zero to hero a smidge more.
Chrissy (07:48):
When no time flat.
I actually think I prefer go thedistance and I hundred percent
prefer, I won't say I'm in love.
Sara (07:56):
That is a good one.
Chrissy (07:57):
Which I considered, but
like, literally it was like
hands down.
It was part of your worldbecause that set me into like
this whole universe,
Sara (08:05):
part of your world really
sets up so much of what we hear
going forward in the DisneyRenaissance from that forward.
Chrissy (08:11):
Hell yeah, it does
Sara (08:13):
good.
Chrissy (08:13):
so good.
Sara (08:14):
which movie would you be
most likely to buy the mini
years for?
Chrissy (08:19):
I wanna say little
mermaid, but really like, I
wanna pair of fucking Hadesears.
Sara (08:24):
Oh, I like this.
I like this.
I have an interesting answer, Sothese don't exist, but they need
to, and Disney will probablysteal this idea and then not pay
me for it, cuz that is theirjam.
But, mouse, many ears where thetwo ears are the little doors
that Gus and Jack, the littlecircle, like in the
Chrissy (08:45):
Oh,
Sara (08:47):
doors open and then you
see them poking their heads
through and.
Gus has like the stack of corngoing up to his chin and Jack
has, uh, some, some beads orsomething or a sash
Chrissy (09:00):
I love
Sara (09:00):
in the middle might be
Lucifer, like just a little like
crouched face of Lucifer.
Chrissy (09:06):
I love it.
Sara (09:08):
I've invented the most
genius ears
Chrissy (09:11):
They're amazing.
I wish I was like crafty enoughand had enough hustle in me to
do that.
Sara (09:17):
Oh, same.
I have no, I have nothing there.
Chrissy (09:19):
I have neither.
All right.
So if you were hanging out inthe parks, which character would
you wanna meet?
Sara (09:26):
So you've got like
characters that are already
there that we know we can meet.
So like, I love getting to seeAriel.
I would like to go hang out withAriel, but I also like the idea
of thinking of like a characterthat is not in the parks.
Or not typically in the parks.
And I think I would have to gowith I'm stalling and making a
really long sentence.
Chrissy (09:47):
I'm pretty sure that
Meg does meet in the parks, but
I've never met her.
Same with Hades.
Sara (09:52):
Ooh.
Chrissy (09:53):
And Gus and
Sara (09:53):
I would like to meet.
my favorite character in theparks.
It's stitch.
I love stitch in the parks.
I love it.
I love best friends breakfast atOhana.
I love stitch.
Chrissy (10:04):
I met stitch.
once we, uh, we danced togetherat the Halloween party in 2012.
Sara (10:09):
And then he did him dirty
called us movie boring.
Chrissy (10:11):
it was boring.
Sara (10:12):
my God.
Chrissy (10:13):
like watching a Disney
animated TV series.
Sara (10:15):
I will, I will agree with
you there.
It's fun though.
I like it.
which movie needs a good sequel?
Not like direct to D V D sequel,but a like toy story.
Two level sequel.
Chrissy (10:26):
Well, I was literally
thinking about this and I was
like, almost all of these havedirect to DVD sequels um, I
mean, bolt doesn't, but I don'treally wanna see a sequel of
bolt.
Sara (10:37):
bolt.
should have been direct to DVD.
Chrissy (10:39):
I won't argue with you
there, but I would like to see
Hercules and Meg, the movie.
Sara (10:45):
that would be interesting.
Yeah.
Cuz Turkey has now chosen to bemortal and is on earth with Meg
and like.
What are they doing?
Are they shopping for furniturein like some Greek market and
getting a cute little apartmentin like downtown THS or
something
Chrissy (11:01):
eating some BVA
together.
Love it.
Sara (11:04):
I like that.
I'm a big fan of that.
like to see.
Yeah, I want a good Lelo andstitch sequel a good one.
I love the end where they'reshowing all the snapshots of
like their travels and littleadventures and stuff.
I want that movie where like, they are a blended family with
Jamba and Bleakley and likehaving Christmas together and
stuff like,
Chrissy (11:26):
I would totally watch
Christmas with Jamba UN bleakly,
Sara (11:28):
Yes.
Chrissy (11:29):
just that's the title.
That's it.
Who was your favorite voiceactor?
Sara (11:33):
My favorite voice, down,
Jody Benson.
Chrissy (11:36):
Oh, I love that.
Sara (11:38):
I need Jody Benson
followed very closely by Danny
DeVito as Phil.
Chrissy (11:43):
Hands down for me,
Eleanor, Audley She is my Fave.
Sara (11:48):
She's male.
Chrissy (11:49):
Yes, she is
Sara (11:50):
you love her forever.
Chrissy (11:52):
forever and ever.
And also because we're talkingvoice actors, we must pay
respect to pat Carol, the voiceof Ursula who is no longer with
us
Sara (12:02):
The one and only she
passed this.
Uh, she died this past July.
Chrissy (12:07):
Yeah.
Sara (12:08):
That makes me so sad.
She was 95 years old.
Chrissy (12:12):
That was a good life.
Sara (12:13):
Oh, damn.
she was an Emmy winner, a dramadesk winner, a Grammy award
winner, and a Tony award.
Nony I'm sad.
I was not prepared to mourn hertoday.
what was the hardest movie tosit through?
Chrissy (12:28):
Hoback.
Sara (12:29):
I'm having a hard time
with that one,
Chrissy (12:31):
It was so traumatic for
me.
I was
Sara (12:33):
very traumatic.
Chrissy (12:35):
is so fucked up.
Sara (12:36):
It was super traumatic.
I was just so bored during bolt.
I was so bored.
Chrissy (12:43):
It happens, dude.
How many fucking movies do wehave within infanticide?
Sara (12:48):
Oh, okay.
Yeah, let's do our ininfanticide, uh, count.
So in infanticide or attemptedin infanticide.
I think it's all attempted ininfanticide.
So we've got,
Chrissy (12:59):
Technically Bambi is
attempt.
Sara (13:01):
oh yeah, shit.
Okay.
So Bambi, uh, not littlemermaid,
Chrissy (13:05):
Definitely hunchback.
Sara (13:07):
very much hunchback.
Hercules,
Chrissy (13:10):
Not, not Lilo.
Sara (13:11):
not Fantasia.
Dinosaur.
Chrissy (13:13):
Oh God.
With that egg man,
Sara (13:15):
Making him do a little
omelet.
Chrissy (13:17):
not bolt,
Sara (13:18):
not Cinderella.
Chrissy (13:19):
And then how many dead
parents do we have
Sara (13:22):
Oh God.
Okay.
Chrissy (13:23):
Bambi?
Sara (13:24):
Bambi.
We've got dead mom.
Okay.
Yes, little mermaid Mom'salready dead.
Chrissy (13:29):
gone.
Sara (13:30):
And I'm guessing Eric's
parents are both gone.
Chrissy (13:32):
yes.
Sara (13:33):
never see them.
Chrissy (13:34):
Hunchback, of Notre
Dame,
Sara (13:36):
both parents.
Chrissy (13:37):
Lelo and stitch dead
parents, dinosaur dead parents.
Hercules.
Sara (13:42):
His parents are gods.
Chrissy (13:44):
Fantasia, probably some
dead parents
Sara (13:47):
Oh yeah.
They gotta be in
Chrissy (13:48):
who even knows
Sara (13:49):
Yes,
Chrissy (13:50):
bolt no dad,
Sara (13:52):
dad.
No.
So either dead dad or absenteefather.
Chrissy (13:55):
Cinderella, dead
parents.
Lot of dead parents.
Sara (13:59):
whole bunch all over the
place.
Disney's so happy and fun.
So
Chrissy (14:03):
and wonderful,
Sara (14:05):
It's like a little cloud
Chrissy (14:07):
no
Sara (14:08):
rest my head on it.
Chrissy (14:09):
warm, fuzzy, dead
parents, and an attempted baby
deaths.
Sara (14:15):
oh my God.
Chrissy (14:16):
So much love and
coziness.
Sara (14:18):
Would you replace any of
our movies with a Pixar film?
We got no Pixar.
Chrissy (14:27):
of course
Sara (14:28):
Yes.
I know that you would replacehunchback.
Chrissy (14:30):
I would actually
replace both.
Sara (14:33):
Yes.
I'm vindicated I'm vindicated.
Chrissy (14:36):
go.
I mean, I'm glad that hunchbackis out of the way and we never
have to watch it.
Sara (14:41):
Got it.
Cool.
All right.
What Pixar movie do we wish wehad watched then?
What would we want to replacebolt?
Chrissy (14:48):
Monsters Inc.
Sara (14:49):
Oh, I love monster sing so
much
Chrissy (14:52):
I mean, technically I
have that for your next
question,
Sara (14:55):
it's cool.
Chrissy (14:56):
but cuz my favorite
Pixar movie is Coco.
Sara (14:59):
Oh, I love
Chrissy (15:01):
I love Coco.
So, so very much.
What about you?
Sara (15:04):
What would I replace?
Um, I think I would have to gowith.
Red Atuie
Chrissy (15:10):
Oh, I love
Sara (15:12):
I would like to do rat
Atuie.
That's just a fun one.
And like, I'll tell you what, assoon as we pull red, Atuie I'm
gonna be talking in a really badFrench accent for half of that
episode.
Chrissy (15:24):
I'll have to hone my
French
Sara (15:26):
I'm gonna leave mine
shitty.
So
Chrissy (15:28):
all, all.
I know how to say in French.
Actually, I know a few things, but the one that I remember off
the top of my head is VU SA from
Sara (15:40):
I want some cheese,
please.
Yes.
Chrissy (15:43):
that was the first
thing I learned when we booked
our honeymoon Paris,
Sara (15:47):
I love that.
The only thing I know, I thinkis mom petite shoe, my
Chrissy (15:52):
have
Sara (15:52):
cabbage, and I only know
it.
Because there's a shoe store inBaltimore.
Mal petite shoe.
Chrissy (15:59):
I love it.
Sara (16:00):
And then I just think it's
really weird to call someone
your little cabbage as like aterm of endearment.
Chrissy (16:05):
it.
I
Sara (16:05):
His cabbage is, are
stinky.
Chrissy (16:07):
I'm gonna call you my
little cabbage from now on.
Sara (16:10):
Yay.
I wanna know the most times youwrote fuck in your notes.
Chrissy (16:17):
I cannot confirm
because I don't know where all
of my notes are.
Some of them were scrolled inlittle notebooks everywhere.
Um, but I'm gonna probably sayit was hunchback.
Sara (16:29):
Yep.
Chrissy (16:30):
Like what the fuck?
What the fuck?
What the fuck?
How the fuck?
How the fuck?
What the fuck?
Sara (16:36):
Why the fuck is
responsible for this?
Why the fuck did they think thiswas a good idea?
Chrissy (16:42):
Yeah,
Sara (16:43):
When the fuck is someone
going to be held responsible?
So Do you have any closingthoughts for our season?
Like how was it doing a podcastfor the first time?
Chrissy (16:53):
Well, this was fun.
Let's do, let's do it
Sara (16:57):
I'm a big fan I will say
is way more work than I
anticipated.
Chrissy (17:03):
more work.
I think we've also overdoneourselves on the doing more work
than we need to part like thenumber of podcast episodes we've
recorded and not published.
Sara (17:14):
Yeah,
Chrissy (17:15):
Swamp
Sara (17:16):
they will stay in the
vault.
we have evolved very nicely.
Chrissy (17:20):
we have
Sara (17:21):
What do you hope we pick
for, uh, our first, uh, movie of
the season, season two.
Chrissy (17:27):
something sweet and
almost kind.
And he was co and he was mean, and unrefined
Sara (17:35):
it.
Oh God.
I wanted to be, to be so bad.
Chrissy (17:38):
me too.
Sara (17:39):
Oh,
Chrissy (17:40):
There's much to unpack
there.
Like, it's gonna be like littlemermaid where we love it and
we're so enamored, but holyshit, there's a lot of fucked up
shit.
Sara (17:50):
lots of like Patty, her
Stockholm syndrome.
Um, I hope I just, I want afreaking Pixar movie.
I am desperate for a Pixarmovie.
I want to pull that.
I wanna
Chrissy (18:02):
the the percentage of
Pixar to Disney though.
That's why it's, that's why itis.
Sara (18:09):
I know, but I'm like at
least what in a season for
Christ sakes.
Um, I really hope we pulled toystory.
Chrissy (18:16):
that would be okay.
Sara (18:17):
I like toy story.
Chrissy (18:18):
It'd be nice to
Fantasia is the only one that
has an animated feature sequel.
So like we can't add a sequel inuntil we've watched the original
Sara (18:27):
Yeah.
I think I'd like to pick toystory.
Or just for Disney, I wouldlike, oh yeah, have a sequel.
I wanna pick the rescuers so Ican get to the rescuers down
under, because I wanna talkabout everyone's true.
Disney princess, Joanna.
Chrissy (18:43):
I don't remember
watching the rescuers down
under.
Sara (18:47):
Oh girl.
We're gonna talk about Joannaone day.
