(01:04):
sponsor series.
And this series showcases thosebrands that are supporting the
platform to advance technology, innovation, leadership, and
investments.
Today, I'm excited.
I'm speaking with Shannon Irby.
Shannon is the national accountmanager for new construction
with Pfister Faucets.
Now listen, Pfister is part ofASSA ABLOY, and I was Prompted

(01:25):
on how to say that correctly.
And I'm may or may not have,we'll check in with Shannon in a
moment, but they are globallyrenowned for product innovation,
design and value.
And I thought it was reallyinteresting in my research that
their designers are based out ofCalifornia.
So they're surrounded by forwardthinking design from all
industries, like from automotiveto aeronautics, computers,

(01:46):
fashion.
So they're getting inspirationfrom all kinds of industries,
including current trends ininterior design, architecture,
lighting, fashion.
It's just really interesting.
And I think this is going to bea really great conversation.
Shannon has been with thiscompany for over six years, and
I'm excited to talk to hertoday.
Shannon, welcome to the show.

(02:07):
Hi, Keri.
Thank you so much for having me.
I'm excited to be here andlooking forward to the Women's
Summit.
That's awesome.
So now first things first, AssaAbloy.
Did I say it right?
You did.
You're right there.
So Assa Abloy is a Swedishcompany based in Sweden.
But it's a global company.
They have offices everywhere allover the world.

(02:29):
And their America's office isactually located in Connecticut.
We're right here local in theAmericas as well.
That's really cool.
So listen, give us a high leveloverview of Pfister Faucets.
What should people know?
Yes as you mentioned in theopening Pfister is actually
based in Lake Forest,California.
We have been part of thehardware and home improvement

(02:53):
division for 20 years now.
That division includes Kwiksetdoor locks, Baldwin hardware
national hardware, as well as afew small brands.
And so we are all 1 big group atour headquarters building.
We do lots of industrial designwork.
We have full testing facilitywith lots of capability there
and we're a full servicemanufacturer all the way from

(03:15):
entry level opening product allthe way up to designer custom
product that you would use in acustom home build.
Wow, that's cool.
So as the economy shifts andvarious design trends come and
go, what is FISTER doing to stayon top of what consumers want
and need and are talking about?

(03:37):
So we follow all trends.
That come from everything fromfashion to home design to car
manufacturing entry systems allvarious types of design and
trending to crack together whatwe're going to look at as new

(04:00):
and exciting products.
Then we also focus on practicalinnovation.
So we always like things thatmake the product easier to
install for the plumber or theconsumer.
We like things that are easy toclean or easy to just make your
day-to-day lives better and moreefficient.
So it's really fun to take thatdesign and that inspiration, but

(04:23):
then combine it with just everyday.
Functional innovation for yourhome.
Yeah.
I like what you said there withpractical innovation.
So you're not just innovatingfor the sake of innovation,
right?
Oh, we could do this.
Let's make it cool.
But you're actually taking in toconsideration, what people need
in order to make their livesbetter, right?
Yes.
And it can be so simple.

(04:44):
It's really funny.
One of our probably most popularproducts that, that everyone
gets so excited about is wecreated a push and seal drain.
For your bathroom faucet, andinstead of having a pop up rod
in the back and all the linkageunderneath, it's very difficult
to maintain and clean andinstall and keep functioning

(05:06):
properly.
You actually screw this strainin it clicks and clicks to open
and close and then you can.
Unscrew the pop up piece fromthe center and pull it out and
the hair catch comes out withit.
For any females out there, orany husbands of females, or dads
of daughters really appreciatethat feature because it helps

(05:28):
with the snaking of the drain inall of our hair.
It's such a basic, easy, simplething, but it really is life
changing, and it's become one ofour most popular products.
That's so funny.
And I feel like, I've got a bigfamily.
And as I get older, these simplethings, like you just said that
sounds amazing.
And there's so many things outthere where we want everything
to talk to us and do all thesecrazy technological type

(05:52):
innovations.
But it's so funny that theeveryday practical things
probably have the biggest impacton our lives.
Absolutely.
So what is it like for adeveloper or an owner to work
with Pfister?
Can you take us through whatthat looks like?
Sure.
Yes.
So we really like to workclosely on identifying what the

(06:13):
best path is for that customer.
So in some cases, they need aplethora of options and lots of
opportunity to create newdifferent specifications.
And then in some cases.
Maybe simplification is whatthey need most and they need
something clean and simple.
When we meet with a newdeveloper or new customer, one

(06:35):
of the things that we do firstis get to know them and then
identify their needs as acompany.
And once we do that, we can makegreat specification
recommendations on what thingswill work for them going
forward.
Maybe what technologies areimportant in their in their
brand.
And then we take that and helpto develop pricing structures

(06:59):
and.
From there, we want to make surethat pricing or that
specification translates downinto the field.
So we work very closely with.
Their distributors or theirplumbers or whatever
subcontractors, they'refollowing and make sure that
translates all the way down fromthe bottom all the way to the
top.
Yeah, that's great.

(07:20):
And so you mentioned, you'reworking on making your products
easier, for plumbers orhandyman, things like that.
And I think that's reallyinteresting in the multifamily.
Industry and in that arenaincreasing efficiency and
productivity is so important andit sounds like you guys are
keeping that in mind from top tobottom for sure.

(07:42):
There's so much cost these daysassociated with the time it
takes to do things and.
If you look at change orders andthings that come in later on a
job or later on a project ordown the road where changes have
to be made and approved, there'sjust so much time consuming
manpower spent on that.

(08:03):
So the more we can simplify itand the more we can deliver on
it, the better off they are.
Yeah, now, do you work with onlynew developments or do you work
with established communities aswell?
Yes, we actually so myselfpersonally, I work with our new
construction.
Multifamily new developments aswell as, build for rent has
become part of that segment.

(08:24):
And then we have a secondarydivision that handles renovation
and property management turnsand all those things.
And so they can support thatside as well.
So we have somebody who's aprofessional in that arena on
each side.
That's great.
What is something people mightnot know about FISTER?

(08:44):
A funny, original story.
I think sometimes Fister is veryquiet and we'll get lost as a
brand.
But just the original, if youguys all remember we used to be
called Price Fister and wechanged our name to Fister it's
probably been 10 years now.
So it's been a little while.
But everybody thinks price isassociated with, pricing or
dollars and it was actually the2 gentlemen who started the

(09:07):
company.
They started the company in theearly 1900s.
It was Emile Price and WilliamVisser, and they needed to get
water to their crops.
To make it easier and moreefficient to water their crops.
So their original faucet wasactually the garden faucet, and
all it was a modern day hose bibthat allowed them to open and

(09:29):
close water out into their croparea.
It's been quite the evolution totoday's gold faucets that go in
your bathroom from the originalhose bin far back in the early
1900s.
But that's the origination ofwhere we came from.
Wow.
That's really interesting.
I did not know that.
So what inspired excitementabout supporting the Multifamily

(09:52):
Women's Summit as a sponsor?
I believe this will be yourfirst time attending.
Is that right?
Yes.
This is my first time attending.
I'm very excited about beingable to be with a group of
women.
I actually know someone whoattended last year and when I
saw all of the wonderful socialmedia posts and the excitement
surrounding it I just feltreally called to go be a part of

(10:15):
it and, you can, as you canimagine for a female in the
plumbing industry we tend to besurrounded by a significant
amount of males in ourprofession.
And that kind of carries overinto construction as well.
The opportunity to connect withother women and I think we
share.
A lot of similarities in just.

(10:37):
How we approach situations orhow we, handle the day to day of
our lives.
And being able not just to talkabout work, but just how we get
through our day to day.
I'm really excited about thatpart.
Yeah, that's great.
That's one thing that I loveabout the Women's Summit is that

(10:59):
we get to connect on not onlythe business level and talk
about the industry and ways tomake our businesses better, but
also on a personal level aswell.
I'm so excited you'll get toexperience that this year.
What should I have asked youthat I didn't ask you about
FISTER?
One great thing about Fisterthat probably many people don't
don't, aren't aware of yet, butI'm hoping that they are aware

(11:20):
of it soon is about two yearsago when we were in the thick of
COVID we created a web seriestelevision show called American
Plumber Stories.
And we are actually just aboutto launch season four.
The teaser just dropped lastweek.
So we're quite a ways into it.
We have an absolutely incredibleproduction team that helps to

(11:44):
produce the series.
And the purpose of the series isto just give everyone insight
into the plumbing trade and allof the things that the plumbing
trade brings to people, bothfrom their families and their
business aspect, but also thewonderful things that to.

(12:08):
Spread the message and encourageyoung people to get involved in
trade professions.
Because I'm sure you hear this alot and I'm sure all the
audience hears this quite a bitand is involved in it where
we're just our trade populationsreally aging out and trying to
replace it.
We're really struggling in thataspect.

(12:28):
This is a very positive andmotivational series that.
Hopefully it gets all of ouryouth inspired to try this as an
option.
That's really neat.
So you said it's a web series.
Is it like documentary style?
Is it reality TV?
What's it like?
So it's funny.
It's, I guess you could say it'sa combination.

(12:49):
I guess it's more a documentarybut each episode basically
covers one plumber or oneplumbing company within each
episode and.
takes you through maybe how thecompany started or what their
history is or what thingsthey're doing to promote and
help the trade.
And each one has a unique story.

(13:09):
We even have several episodesthat address female plumbers.
We have one story with a femaleowner.
We have one where the companywas passed down from a father
and the father passed away andhis daughter.
She had no prior plumbingexperience, but she came into
the business.
She earned her plumbing licenseand has taken over the company

(13:33):
and is doing just amazing.
So there's so many.
inspirational stories of all thethings that all of these people,
including females are doing topromote the profession and show
what an amazing career it canbe.
So I just, I love the positivemessage behind it.
And then it really you reallyfall in love with the people.

(13:55):
That's so cool.
Where can we watch it?
You can actually find us if youjust go to www.
americanplumberstories.
com that'll take you to ourwebsite and then from there you
can watch videos.
They're all on YouTube.
You'll be able to link to theepisodes there.
And then we actually have astore with merchandise and all
kinds of thing.
We have a really.
Very cool looking tattoo ishlooking logo that has a water

(14:18):
droplet, an American flag andwrenches.
So if you get really excited andyou want to wear the shirt or
the hat, you can buy yourmerchandise there as well.
I love it.
We'll be sure to link that inthe show notes for this episode.
That's really cool.
What is something you're excitedabout for what's next with
Pfister?
Do you have anything exciting onthe horizon?
So we're always launching andcoming out with new products.

(14:40):
And I actually, we launched abrand new collection this past
year at CABEZ called the ColfaxCollection.
It's extremely unique to themultifamily industry.
In that it has some unique anddifferent finishes that wouldn't
normally be offered or haven'tbeen available in the past.
It also takes some designelements from both traditional

(15:02):
and modern design and bringsthem together.
So it's a very unique design.
It's very exciting.
It got huge rave reviews at theKitchen and Bath show last year.
And then we do have another newcollection that we'll be
launching this year at CAPES.
If you're there, I hope you'llstop by our booth and check it
out.
Because we'll have some newexciting goodies coming.

(15:23):
Wow, that's exciting for sure.
Is there anything you want tosay?
We're coming up on our time.
Do you have any final thoughtsfor our audience?
I just want to thank everyone.
Thank you guys for giving us theopportunity to come together
and, be able to talk aboutwhat's going on with us but also
inspire the next generation.
I have a 9 year old daughter andall I want to do for her is make

(15:45):
sure that women like us arepaving the way for the next
generation of females to come inand.
Do things that maybe peoplewouldn't realize are an option.
Yeah, absolutely.
I think that's so important asyou mentioned, too, and in the
trade industries, with theeducation, being disrupted with

(16:05):
COVID and all that.
I think there's a hugeopportunity for that.
Many people don't know whatmultifamily is until somehow
they fall into it.
They meet someone or theirsister becomes a leasing agent
or something like that, right?
It's the same with these tradeindustries as well.
You just don't even know whatyou don't know.
You don't know what's out thereyet.
It's true.

(16:26):
I actually, it's funny.
I didn't grow up thinking that Iwanted to be in the plumbing
industry.
I fell into it.
Back straight out of college, fell into it.
And then that has led me throughmore custom home.
And when I found thismultifamily industry, I
absolutely fell in love with it.
And I've loved it ever since.
And I think you're exactlyright.

(16:46):
It's you just may not realizeit's out there until it's
introduced.
So I love the idea that we'respreading the message.
Not just about multifamily, buta wonderful message about women
in the multifamily profession, whether it's on the trade side
or the construction side or theproperty management side,
there's so many different pathsthat you can take and be
involved in this wonderfulindustry.

(17:08):
