And remember Bob Uecker andDavid Lynch all that and more in
this edition of Multiversetonight comic books, sci-fi,
fantasy and more.

(00:26):
If you're looking for a roundupof geeky news, you're in the
right place.
This is Multiverse Tonight, andhere's your host, thomas

(00:56):
Townley.
Well, hello everyone, andwelcome to episode 232 of
Multiverse Tonight.
I'm, of course, your host, thomas Townley, and, uh, well,
the snow's finally melted.
That's a good thing.
Uh, we've had snow on theground for several weeks now, uh
, with cold temperatures justkeeping that snow on the ground,

(01:17):
but it's finally, finally, uh,pretty much all melted away,
except for a patch here or there.
So that's good.
I've been keeping myself busyWork.
They're going to start aremodel at my job, excuse me, so

(01:42):
I have that to look forward to.
But in the meantime I do havesome goodies.
I bought the complete series ofWKRP in Cincinnati for a good
deal.
That's one of my favorite old80s shows.

(02:02):
That's Comfort Food and thisreleased from Shop Factory.
They were able to get the rightsto, I think, 99% of all the
songs that were originally onthere, because originally there
was pop music, the originalsongs all the recording artists,

(02:25):
but when it went to syndication, of course those cost money, so
they had to take those out andput in kind of sound-alike
tracks and it just doesn't pairwell.
So I'm happy to have that.
I also have that I also.

(02:48):
So let's go on to the legalnews.
It's Marvel news, so let's justsay it's Marvel news.
And we begin this news with thefallout radius of the Blake

(03:26):
Lively and Justin Baldoni legalbattle continuing to spread.
Now it's drawn in Marvelpresident Kevin Feige, disney
CEO Bob Iger and director TimMiller into the latest part of
the drama.
On January 7th, baldoni'slawyer, brian Friedman, sent a
litigation hold letter to Feigeand Eiger in connection with his

(03:47):
client's anticipated claimsagainst Ryan Reynolds, lively
and other unnamed parties.
Variety has viewed a copy ofthe letter, which calls on the
us.
The film At the Center of theLively Baldoni Rift was released
by Sony and has nothing to dowith Disney, but Baldoni's

(04:11):
attorneys believe that Lively'shusband, ryan Reynolds, was
flagrantly mocking Baldoni in asequence in Marvel's Deadpool
and Wolverine, which wasreleased by Disney back in July.
The sequence features Reynoldsplaying Nicepool, an ophage,
alternate version of theeponymous hero Deadpool, saying
such lines as Wearing God's nameas the intimacy coordinator and

(04:32):
complimenting Ladypool forsnapping back into shape after
giving birth.
Lively, who cameoed in the tentpool.
As Ladypool recently accusedBaldoni of sexually harassing
and fat-shaming her postpartumbody on the set of it Ends With
Us.
When Deadpool points out NicePool's misogyny on the screen,
the latter replies it's okay.

(04:53):
Identify as a feminist.
During the development, production and marketing of it
Ends With Us, a drama aboutdomestic violence, baldoni often
talented his credentials as afeminist and ally to women.
Marvel and Disney declined thecomment.
As an attorney for Ryan Rilson, lively Friedman could not be

(05:17):
reached for comment.
It's believed to be one of themany industry figures whose home
was destroyed in the PacificPalisades fire that's still
raging.
The litigation hold letter sentthe day the fires began.
Calls for Marvel and Disney topreserve quote any and all
documents relating to thedevelopment of the Nice Pool
character, as well ascommunications relating to the

(05:38):
development, writing and filmingof storylines and scenes
featuring Nice Pool.
The letter is also calling forthe studio to retain of all the
documents relating to and orreflecting a deliberate attempt
to mock, harass, ridicule, intimidate or bully Baldoni
through the character ofNicepool.

(05:59):
Now Reynolds, who is a writer, producer and star of Deadpool
and Wolverine has neveraddressed if there is a
connection between Nicepool andBaldoni, even as fans speculated

(06:20):
about just that long before thecurrent legal clash between the
parties.
That spawned three lawsuits todate and nine others sued the
New York Times for $250 millionover its story.
That relied heavily on a letterfiled with the California Civil
Rights Department by Livelythat accused the director of
sexual harassment and carryingout a retaliatory online
campaign.
The group accused the Times ofcherry-picking and doctoring
communications stripped ofnecessary context and

(06:41):
deliberately spliced to mislead.
The complaint also claims thatLively was the one who embarked
on a strategic and manipulativesmear campaign of her own and
used false allegations to assertunilateral control over every
aspect of the production.
During an appearance on theMegyn Kelly Show on January 7th,
friedman referenced the nice, cool character saying quote

(07:04):
there's no question it relatesto Justin.
I mean anybody that watchedthat hair bun, friedman said.
He also questions why Reynoldswould use his wife's alleged
sexual harassment for comedicfodder.
If quote, if somebody isseriously sexually harassed, you
don't make fun of it.
It's a serious issue, friedmanadded.
The litigation hold letter, which was written ahead of the

(07:27):
anticipated claims related toReynolds and Lively's torturous
interference with contract andevil extortion goes well beyond
the Nice Pool character andimplies that a
Lively-Baldoni-style rift existsbetween Reynolds and Miller,
who directed the first Deadpoolmovie but did not return for the
sequel, or Deadpool andWolverine but did not return for
the sequel or Deadpool andWolverine.

(07:47):
The letter instructs the studioto preserve any documents and
data relating to complaints madeagainst Ryan Reynolds by any
person, including, withoutlimitation, tim Miller and
Miller's departure from the filmDeadpool 2, as well as any
insistences of Reynolds exertingcreative control of any film
project.
A litigation holder oftenprecedes litigation.
Baldoni has not sued Lively orReynolds, but Friedman has

(08:10):
indicated a suit is imminent, telling Kelly that he plans to
sue the Hollywood power coupleinto oblivion, while in
publication of the Times story, baldoni was dumped by WME, the
agency shared with Lively andReynolds.
Wme also reps Miller.

and journalism.
The Daily Planet, superman'slongtime employer, will undergo
a significant transformation,expanding into a multimedia news
platform with a global reach.

(14:16):
consumption and distribution inthe digital age.
Superman Unlimited no 1 is setto hit comic book stores and
digital platforms on May 21st.
Fans can expect a thrilling andthought-provoking story that
will push Superman to his limitsand explore the complex
implications of a world awash inkryptonite.
While filming having recentlycommenced on Supergirl Women of

(14:40):
Tomorrow, it was only a matterof time before more information
about the DC Universe film wasrevealed, and that includes
casting updates.
Now, according to the HollywoodReporter, the DC Studios film
has added David Krumholtz andEmily Beecham to the cast of
Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow asCorizor Oil's parents.
Krumholtz and Beecham join thepreviously announced Millie

(15:00):
Alcock as Supergirl and EveRiley and Matthias Schwarz with
Jason Momoa set to appear asLo-O.
While reports that Krummholtzand Beecham will play Kara's
parents, the report wasn'texactly clear on which set of
the titular heroine's parentsthey'll be portraying.

(15:20):
Generally, in comics, karaZor-El, like her cousin Kal-El
Superman, was sent to Earth withthe destruction of Krypton
imminent.
As a child, however, kara'sship experienced a difficulty
and led to her late arrival onEarth, with her baby cousin, now
all grown up On Earth.
Kara was adopted by Jeremiahand Eliza Danvers.
This means that, technically, kara has two sets of parents her

(15:44):
Kryptonian biological parents,zor-el and Allura, and her
adoptive parents.
Now, given that Supergirl Womanof Tomorrow is set to be based
on the DC comic book series ofthe same name by Tom King and
Billquist Evley, which sees Kara, who is celebrating her 21st
birthday, traveling across thegalaxy and encountering a young

(16:04):
girl who is on a quest forrevenge, it seems likely that
Krumholtz and Beecham areplaying Zor-El and Allura.
The Supergirl Wonder Womancomic generally explores Kara's
trauma and experience, makingher memories of her biological
parents feel like a good fit tothe overall story of the film.
Supergirl Women of Tomorrow isdirected by Craig Gillespie with

(16:26):
a script by Anna Nogura.
Now let's finish off with somemore Marvel news, and Marvel

(16:49):
News continues with RegalCinemas now offering exclusive
DLC for Marvel Rivals players.
This exclusive bundle isavailable for those who purchase
tickets to Captain AmericaBrave New World before the end
of the opening weekend, whichends on February 17th.
The DLC is available for thosewho are a Regal Crown Club

(17:12):
credits for tickets, concessionsand merchandise.
To sign up for the membership, head on over to Regal's website
Now.
Marvel Rivals hasn't been aroundduring Marvel's season release,
so this will be interesting tosee how the box office numbers
might fluctuate, given the risein the game's popularity.
The overwhelming support forthe superhero shooter has been

(17:33):
rising over the last week sincethe season one launch.
With over 400,000 playersentering the multiverse
regularly, the superhero fatiguelooks to be turning over a new
leaf.
The game has seen itsconnections to the MCU, with
several players sporting MarvelStudio-themed skins, heroes such
as Black Widow, mantis andStar-Lord, scarlet, witch,

(17:55):
wolverine and many more sportlooks from the Marvel Studio
Films.
Seeing the upcoming slate, wecould see costumes for the
Winter Soldier, the Punisher, mrFantastic and the Invisible
Woman for projects such asThunderbolts, daredevil Born
Again and the Fantastic Four.
First Steps, the start ofMarvel-Rivals collaborations is

(18:16):
slowly taking shape as the gamecontinues to ride the currents
of the mainstream landscape.
Recently, marvel Rivalspartnered with Insomniac Studios
to bring a costume based onPlayStation's Marvel Superman 2.
This collab will pair nicely, considering voice actor Yuri
Lowenthal voices Spider-Man inboth iterations.

(18:37):
Regardless, it wouldn't besurprising to see more
Marvel-based projectscollaborating with Marvel rivals
.
Marvel Studios' Captain America, brave New World releases in
theaters on my birthday, february 14th, and you know what
would go well on my birthday Ifyou would go over to ko-ficom
slash multiverse and support me.

(18:59):
It would be greatly appreciated.
How's that for a plug?
Charlie Cox has recentlyconfirmed that the second season
of the much-anticipatedDaredevil Born Again will
commence filming by the springseason.
Even before the first seasongraces television screens, this
revelation has stirredexcitement among fans,

(19:22):
especially considering Cox'senthusiasm to reprise the role
of Daredevil after the show'sabrupt cancellation in 2018.
However, cox also displays apragmatic awareness that this
resurgence might not beindefinite.
The original Daredevil series, which garnered a massive
following, was a collaborativedeal between Netflix and Disney.

(19:44):
Unfortunately, this partnershipfaltered in 2018, leading to
the cancellation of Daredeviland other Marvel shows hosted on
the Netflix platform.
Following this, the rights tothese beloved characters
reverted back to Marvel Studios.
This transition paved the wayfor Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio,
who portrayed Kingpin, to makeappearances in other Marvel
Cinematic Universe projects, keeping the characters' presence

(20:06):
alive.
The forthcoming Daredevil BornAgain series is generating
considerable buzz due to thereturn of many original cast
members who resonate with theaudience.
Their return promises a senseof continuity and nostalgia.
Additionally, the series isintroducing new additions to the
cast, including noble actorslike Margarita Livia and Nicky
James, who are expected toinfuse fresh energy and dynamics

(20:29):
into the show.
Let's hit some Star Wars news, roger roger.
Star Wars news begins withMarvel Comics.
Marvel is relaunching its StarWars ongoing series by pivoting
it to the time period during theNew Republic, right after the

(20:49):
events of Return of the Jedi.
Recognizable characters likeLuke Skywalker and Princess Leia
Organa and Han Solo willcontinue to star in the title
written by Los Angeles TimesBook Prize winner and
best-selling author, alex Segura, with art by Phil Nodo.
Segura and Nodo are nostrangers to the world of Star
Wars, with Segura having writtena novel focused on Poe, dameron

(21:10):
and the Battle of Jakku, limited series of comics, and
Nodo providing covers forvarious Star Wars projects and
Noto providing covers forvarious Star Wars projects.
The next iteration of Star Warspublishing fills the gaps
between Star Wars, Return of theJedi and Star Wars the Force
Awakens, totaled across threeintertwined limited series, all
tied to the Battle of Jakku, insurgency, rising Republic

(21:31):
Under Siege and Last Stand.
Star Wars no 1 goes on sale May7th, just in time for Star Wars
Day.
Now let's head on over to theGeek News.
Yeah, no Star Trek news today, but I would like to throw out

(22:08):
that I watched the first 25minutes of the Star Trek Section
31 online movie on Paramount+.
Oh, it's awful, folks.
You know I like the characterfine.
Discovery wasn't my favorite, but you know it was still okay.
This is horrible One.

(22:32):
You can tell where the storygoes without, you know, even
needing to see the rest of it,you can tell where it goes.
And the characters are just godawful.
It's like they just grate onyour nerves.
So yeah, take it from me Do notwatch Star Trek, section 31.

(22:59):
Demand better Star Trek.
Anyway, netflix boo is raisingprices on subscription plans in
the US and other territories.
The company's low cost tier, with advertising, is going to
$7.99 a month in the US, up fromthe $6.99 level where it

(23:22):
started in 2022.
The standard plan, which is themost popular, will now be
$17.99, up from $15.49.
The top-tier premium plan willrise $2 to $24.99.
Will rise $2 to $24.99.
There will be no change to the$6.99 charge to add another

(23:43):
subscriber to the ad tier aspart of the company's paid
password sharing plan.
I'm not really a subscriber toNetflix anymore.
I'll get it once in the bluemoon if there's a lot of stuff
there built up that I want towatch, but for the most part, I
don't need it.

(24:05):
On to other news FrancescaGregorini, the director and
writer of the 2013 film theTruth About Emmanuel, has
initiated a lawsuit against MNight Shyamalan, the director of
the Apple TV Plus show Servant, and Apple Incorporated.
The law claims that Servantplagiarized significant elements
from Gregorini's film and she'sseeking a substantial sum of

(24:27):
$81 million in damages.
Gregorini's legal team contendsthat both the truth about
Emmanuel and Servant share acentral plot point A mother
who's experiencing a delusionthat a doll is her real baby and
a nanny who participates inthis delusion.
They maintain the mother'sfragile mental state.
They argue that this strikingsimilarity, combined with other

(24:49):
shared elements, constitutescopyright infringement.
Shyamalan's defense, however, rests on the assertion that Tony
Bagsgallup, the true creator ofServant, had been developing
the show's concept years beforethe Truth About Manuel was ever
released.
They maintain that neitherShaman nor anyone else involved
in the production of Servant hadany knowledge of or access to

(25:12):
Gregorini's film during thedevelopment process.
The trial proceedings willnecessitate a thorough
examination of both works by thecourt.
This will likely involvewatching both the Truth About
Manuel and Servant in theirentirety, as well as hearing
testimony from ShyamalanBagsgallup and, potentially,
other individuals involved inthe creation of both projects.

(25:32):
For Gregorini to prevail inthis lawsuit, she'll need to
provide compelling evidence thatdemonstrates not only a
substantial similarity betweenthe two works, but also that the
defendants had access to herfilm and drew inspiration from
it.
This will likely involve experttestimony of the nature of
copyright law and the creativeprocess, as well as a detailed

(25:53):
analysis of the similarities anddifferences between the two
works.
Of the similarities anddifferences between the two
works.
Interestingly, both sides haveattempted to leverage their
clients' backgrounds to garnersympathy and support.
Gregorini's attorney hasemphasized her clients' humble
beginnings and portrayedShyamalan and Apple as industry
giants with immense power andresources.
Shyamalan's attorney, on theother hand, has highlighted his

(26:14):
clients' own rise from humblebeginnings to success, while
portraying Gregorini as anopportunist seeking to
capitalize on Shyamalan's fameand fortune.
The trial is anticipated tospan approximately two weeks,
during which the court will heararguments and evidence for both
sides before ultimatelyrendering a decision on whether
Servant infringed on thecopyright of the truth of Val

(26:37):
Emmanuel or whether Gregorini isentitled to damages she seeks.
The outcome of this case mighthave significant implications
for the entertainment industry, particularly regarding the
boundaries of copyrightprotection and the extent of
which creators can drawinspiration from existing works.
Nominations for the 97th AnnualAcademy Awards were announced

(26:57):

the industry's mistreatment ofwomen of an age.

He would appreciate someprivacy at this time.
There's a big hole in the worldnow that he's no longer with us
, but, as he would say, keepyour eye on the donut and not on

(36:44):
the hole.
It's a beautiful day, withgolden sunshine and blue skies
all the way.
Lynch's almost 50-year cinematiccareer was distinguished by a
series of distinctive, highlystylized films that often
featured surreal situations,fragmented timelines and
supernatural elements.

After sharing the news, lynchassured his supporters that he
planned to keep working, writingand despite his diagnosis.

(37:24):
Lynch assured his supportersthat he planned to keep working,
writing and despite hisdiagnosis.
I am filled with happiness andI will never retire.
Born in Missoula, montana, in1946, lynch spent his childhood
moving to different parts of theUS due to his father's job as a
research scientist for the USDepartment of Agriculture.
Although he never achieved fameas a filmmaker, although he

(37:48):
achieved fame as a filmmaker, lynch started his career as a
painter and visual artist, studying at Washington DC's
Cochran School of the Arts andDesign, the School of the Museum
of Fine Arts in Boston andfinally at the Pennsylvania
Academy of Fine Arts.
It was in Philadelphia.
In addition to starring afamily, lynch first started
experimenting with filmmaker, inspired by his idea of making

(38:10):
his paintings moved.
I was painting and the painting, as I said before, I was
painting very dark paintings andI saw some little part of this
figure move and I heard a windand I really wanted those things
to move and have a sound withthem, and so I started making an
animated film as a movingpainting.
And that was it, he said.

(38:34):
Lynch's early experiments withthe medium reflected his
penchant for strange subjectmatter and creative visuals.
His first short, six MenGetting Sick Six Times, is an
experimental animation featuringfigures vomiting in sequence.
In 1970, he moved with hisfamily to Los Angeles, where he
enrolled in the American FilmInstitute Conservatory and

(38:54):
starred work on his firstfeature film, the cult classic
Eraserhead.
A kind of body horror meetsparenthood drama flick.
The black-and-white film wasreleased in 1977 and has
screened for years as a midnightfeature.
Lynch followed up Razorheadwith the commercial hit the
Elephant man, starring John Hurtas Joseph Merrick and Dune, the

(39:14):
widely panned adaptation ofFrank Herbert's science fiction
novel, which has become a cultclassic in geek circles.
I still watch it every now andthen.
His next feature film, blueVelvet, features many of the
themes that recur throughout hiswork a dreamlike plot involving
sex and violence, a suburbansetting that belies the seedy

(39:34):
underworld beneath, andperformances by frequent Lynch
collaborators Colin McLaughlinand Laura Dern.
In 1990, lynch debuted both Wildat Heart, a romantic crime film
starring Dern and Nicolas Cagethat took home the Palme d'Or at
the Cannes Film Festival, andTwin Peaks, one of the most
impactful works of his career, the cult classic TV show that

(39:56):
featured McLaughlin as acourteous but eccentric FBI
agent investigating themysterious murder of homecoming
queen in the quaint fictionaltown of Twin Peaks.
The show's first seasonreceived 14 Emmy nominations,
although it was canceled afterjust two seasons.
The series has been sized asone of the most influential TV
shows of all time, agenre-bending career.

(40:18):
In the last 20 years, lynchtook something of a prolonged
hiatus from filmmaking.
His last feature film, 2006,inland Empire, is a
psychological thriller starringDern Jeremy Irons and Justin
Theroux.
In the interim, he has helmedmany shorts and music videos,
including ones for Interpol andNine Inch Nails.
In 2017, lynch debuted thelong-awaited third season of

(40:42):
Twin Peaks, called Twin Peaks toReturn.
Set 25 years after the originalseries, and although he is best
known as a filmmaker, lynchcontinued to paint.
That started his career as anartist and dabbled in music,
releasing a rock album calledBlue Bob in 2001, an EP called
this Train in 2011, and a ModernBlues album called the Big

(41:04):
Dream in 2013.
He told in an interview withthe New York Times quote I only
wanted to ever be a painter, butpainting led into filmmaking.
I all say I go where the ideastake me.
Unquote.
Another through line thatdefined Lynch was his commitment
to the transcendentalmeditation, which, according to

(41:25):
the website for the David LynchFoundation, is a quote technique
, practiced 20 minutes twice aday while staying comfortably
with the eyes closed.
In a statement on the site, thefilmmaker wrote that he started
the practice in 1973 and hasnot missed a single meditation
every day, twice a day, everyday.
Speaking with Walter in 2018,the director said that, despite

(41:48):
their sometimes morbid subjectjoy, the ultimate source of his
film was ultimately joy, quotethe thing is, if you get an idea
that you love and you want torealize it, then the trip of
realizing it should be joyfuland results should be joyful.
He said, happiness is not a newcar, it's the doing of the work

(42:10):
.
If you like the doing, theresult will be a joy.
He also had a bit part on theSeth MacFarlane series, the
Cleveland Show, as the bartender, so you know, big, remembering
