Speaker 1 (00:57):
Well, hello and welcome to episode 226 of
Multiverse.
Tonight.
I'm, of course, your host, thomas Townley, and it is a
rainy day.
Here in Kansas.
We've gotten several inchesover the past couple days.
In fact had some basementflooding that imperiled my

(01:21):
collectibles in the basement, but everything turned out right.
Nothing seriously damaged,luckily.
I will say this for long boxesand bagging and boarding your
comics, it is a lifesaver.
It will save your collection.
So be sure to do that.
Last night had an odd night.
We were sitting in the livingroom and all of a sudden we

(01:45):
heard this meowing and we lookedout of the glass and there was
a little, you know, maybesix-month-old, one-year-old cat
outside just looking at us goinghelp me, help me.
So you know we can't have catshere.

(02:05):
So did the next best thing wetook I took him into my garage
and gave him some water and aplace to sleep, and this morning
we took him over to the kingmancounty humane society here in
town.
So hopefully he'll get adoptedout.
It was a nice cat.

(02:28):
Obviously it had been withhumans, because it wasn't afraid
of me.
So hopefully whoever lost itgoes and claims it or it gets
adopted out.
We'll call that my good deed.
Maybe that's a good sign.
Election day is tomorrow, ofcourse, and you know it's Donald

(02:53):
Trump versus Kamala Harris.
I don't see a problem here.
Let's just say 100% I endorseKamala Harris Because, frankly,
we do not need a second term forDonald Trump.
I'm sorry if this offendsanyone.

(03:14):
I usually try to keep politicsout of the podcast, but this is
important.
So if you're in the UnitedStates and you hear this, be
sure to go to the polls tomorrow, if you haven't already.
And if you're outside theUnited States and you hear this,
be sure to go to the pollstomorrow, if you haven't already
.
And if you're outside theUnited States, be sure to hold
your breath and hopefully we'llbe able to get you that positive
result tomorrow.

(03:35):
Anyway, let's go on to theMarvel news, and Marvel News

(03:59):
begins with Marvel Studios, which has announced three future
release dates for upcomingfilms February 18th 2028,.
May 5th.
20 upcoming films February 18th2028, May 5th 2028, and
November 10th 2028.
These dates fall.
These dates fall after theconclusion of the Multiverse

Saga, Marvel CinematicUniverse's years-long crossover
storyline that began after theInfinity Saga wrapped up in 2019
.
All current storylines in theMCU are leading up to the May 7,
2027 premiere of AvengersSecret Wars.
While details about thepost-Infinity Saga slate were

(04:44):
previously vague, it is nowknown, before Avengers Endgame,
that sequels to popular solostories like Black Panther and
Spider-Man Homecoming are indevelopment, so we have hope.
We have no idea what will beput in those slates, but we know
it's not Blade.
Blade seems to have vanishedinto the night, so hopefully the

(05:11):
Daywalker will come again.
Daredevil Born Again has aconfirmed release date on
Disney+.
During New York Comic Con'sMarvel panel, Vincent D'Onofrio
and Charlie Cox revealed thattheir MCU series kicks off on
March 4, 2025.
Off on March 4th 2025.
In a recent episode of the OnWith Kara Swisher podcast,
Robert Downey Jr issued a sternwarning to Hollywood about the

(05:35):
use of AI technology anddeepfakes.
The Oscar-winning actorexpressed his strong opposition
to the creation of a digitalreplica of himself without his
consent.
Downey, known for his portrayalof Iron man in the Marvel
Cinematic Universe, is confidentthat Marvel would not use AI to
recreate his character, TonyStark.
However, he is concerned aboutfuture executives who might want
to exploit his likeness withoutauthorization.

(05:57):
Downey declared quote I intendto sue all future executives
just on spec.
Quote I intend to sue allfuture executives just on spec.
He said, emphasizing hisintention to take legal action
against anyone who signs off onthe creation of a Downey digital
replica.
When asked about his feelingsabout being digitally recreated,
Downey acknowledged that he hashad a full emotional life and

(06:18):
doesn't have much room for suchspeculation.
He emphasized that he is notworried about Marvel hijacking
his character's soul because keydecision makers at the company
would never do that to him.
However, Downey is confrontingthe future of AI on Broadway
through his involvement in theplay McNeil, which criticizes
corporate giants in the AI space.
He expressed concern aboutindividuals who over-identify

(06:41):
with this new phase oftechnology and believed they
could manage it with seekingfavorable publicity.
Currently, Downey is preparingfor his return to Marvel, as he
will be portraying thevillainous Dr Doom starting in
Avengers Doomsday in 2026, notas a digital replica of Tony
Stark.
Well, you know, to each his own.

(07:02):
I can see uses for AI actors inthe future, but, yeah, I think
that should be up to the actor,or at least their representative
is going forward.
It's kind of like the thing theyhad where they had Fred Astaire

(07:23):
dancing with a broom in aSuperbowl commercial and people
were outraged about that way,way back in the you know, 20, 30
years ago.
So this is just you know thatsame argument being displayed
again.

Anyway, let's go on with ourdearly departed, shall we?
Let's go on with our dearlydeparted, shall we?
First up, terry Garr, thebeloved comic actor who scored
an Oscar nomination for SidneyPollock's Tootsie, starring

In the early 70s she reoccurredon the Sonny and Cher Hour and
guested on MASH, the Odd Couple, the Bob Newhart Show, barnaby

But her breakout came in 1974.

(23:23):
She appeared in Francis FordCoppola's Best Picture Oscar
nominee, the Conversation, playing the girlfriend of star
Gene Hackman, and later thatyear landed her most famous role
as Inga, the Transylvanianlocal who becomes the assistant
to Gene Wilder's Dr FrederickFrankenstein, if you please, in
the smash comedy YoungFrankenstein.

(23:43):
In the smash comedy YoungFrankenstein, serving as
Brooke's follow-up to BlazingSaddles, its stellar cast also
included Cloris Leachan, martyFeldman, peter Boyle and Gene
Hackman in the cameo.
Her sweet, somewhat naive andoddly accented character had no
shortage of memorable lines.
Who would forget?
Would you like a roll in thehay?

(24:03):
He would have an enormousschwanstucker and put the candle
back.
The film won critical acclaimand was a huge commercial hit,
later becoming resurrected as aBroadway musical.
Richard Dreyfuss and Gar wouldbe in Close and Carries of the
Third Kind, also in 1977.
The mid-70s found Gar doingguest shots on other hit TV

(26:19):
The latter cast also includedMartin Mole and Gillian Jeffrey
Tambor and Christopher LloydAround.
That time Garr began guestingon NBC's versioning talk show
Late Night with David Lehrman.
Her frequent flirty, fauxbickering visits more than two

Working for Jerry Taylor wasalways a delight.

Jerry Taylor helped bring StarTrek Voyager to the screen

She was already a part of theStar Trek family after working

synonymous with.
Taylor would hand the writers'room to Brandon Braga when she
departed the show, and Bragaalso took to social media to
share a tribute to Taylor.
On Facebook she wrote JerryTaylor died.

(30:45):
She was a great writer andshowrunner and, to me, a
cherished mentor.
Jerry was generous with herwisdom and her time.
She nurtured an entire staff ofyoung writers, which is
testament to her patience.
I would not have a careerwithout Jerry's intricate
guidance.
She taught us all so much.
