Join us in this week's edition of "My Burbank Talks" as we unravel some intriguing developments in Burbank. We kick things off with an apology due to a mix-up involving Acting Mayor Nikki Perez and the Christmas tree lighting event, highlighting the real organizers this year, Johnson and Mary from the Public Information Office. Celebrate with us as we cheer for Robbie Brody, who dazzled us with his participation and took home a $25 gift card for the "Word of the Week" contest. Listen closely for your chance to be the next winner!

The episode takes a serious turn as we discuss the arrest of a transient linked to a hillside fire and the swift action taken by the Burbank Fire Department. Thank you very much.
Thank you everybody.
I appreciate it.
Please sit down, sit down.
Hello, burbank, craig Short herewith you once again An
abbreviated edition of the weekthat was the week that will be,
and sorry about our background, but we're in the process of
changing some things around, sowe're giving you the Max

(00:39):
Headroom background and if youdon't know who that Max Headroom
is, google it.
So anyhow, let's get into it.
As always, we have a humblerequest that you like this video
and please subscribe to thechannel, so YouTube continues to
recommend this video to otherslike yourself, and also think
about a channel membership tosupport us here at my Burbank.

(01:01):
So we're going to start offwith a correction from last
week's show.
Acting Mayor Nikki Perez toldme at the Magnolia Park podcast
that she was going to run themayor's Christmas tree lighting
at City Hall on Friday night, which I reported last week.
But I received an email fromthe ever-observant Ross Benson

(01:21):
that I was not correct thatJohnson and Mary from the Public
Information Office were goingto host the event.
I was not correct that Johnsonand Merriam's and Public
Information Office were going tohost the event.
I did not attend, but I hopeeverything went well for what is
always a great event.
So I apologize and sorry for myerror.
Last week's Word of the Weekwinner was Robbie Brody.
Of course the word was parking.

(01:46):
Robbie won a $25 gift card to alocal brick restaurant and all
you have to do all you have todo is send in an email with a
single word in the subject lineand his address.
How easy can that be?
As always, there will beanother word of the week later
in the show, so please listenand send it in to us for your
chance to win that $25 gift card.

(02:11):
So last Monday police reportedthey had arrested a transient
for setting the hillside on fire.
Monday, after officers had seenhim loitering on the hillside,
they climbed the hillside andtook him into custody and he
struggled and got away andstarted the fire.
At that point Burbank Fire, with help from water dropping,
helicopters and mutual aid, gotthe fire contained quickly and

(02:34):
spent the next 24 hoursmonitoring the hillside to make
sure it did not start again.
On Tuesday we received a letterto the editor of the developer
of the 910 South Mariposaproject, claiming that he had
received racist threats and howmany people at the meeting gave
him a hard time.
He referred the message to usthat he received to the Brigham

(02:58):
Police Department forinvestigation when they
immediately.
We then immediately received anemail from their rancho group
saying the message only camefrom an individual and not the
group.
But what about all the remarksmade to the man while he was
sitting in the audience?
If we hear any follow up to thepolice, which I doubt, I will

(03:20):
let you know.
So that is kind of it for lastweek.
It was a very slow week, asweeks go, and in the holiday
season it kind of goes that way.
So we're going to take ourquick break and come back to you
in a second with the week thatwill be.

(03:42):
So stand by.

jewelry, breathtaking paintings,delightful ornaments, festive
decorations, cozy knitwear andmuch more.
Tonight's planning commissionmeeting has been canceled.
There is just no planninglately, so we will just play it
by ear.
I guess the CommunityDevelopment Goals Committee

(05:06):
meeting will happen at 6 pmtonight at the Community
Services Building.
Items for discussion are 1.
Approval of the CommunityDevelopment Goals Committee
minutes, which we have no way ofknowing what they were.
2.
Agenda Packet Overview, whichwe have no idea what that is.
3.
The Community Development BlockGrant Overview, which we don't
know what that is either.

(05:27):
And for the CommunityDevelopment Block Grant funding
recommendations for the fiscalyear 2024-25 capital projects
only.
Once again, nothing else posted, no minutes, no staff reports,
nothing.
And the meeting is not recorded.
I forget what's that buzzwordagain?
Oh yeah, transparency.

(05:50):
Rightword again.
Oh yeah, transparency.
Right, right, right, right.
Tuesday the city council willmeet for the final time as a
four-member council at 6 pm atCity Hall.
Very, very quick meeting, wethink.
Not a lot going on, so they'veactually done themselves well
for a change.
One of the agenda items will beto certify the election results

(06:12):
for the november 5th election.
The city of burbank has 70 474registered voters for the los
angeles county registry quarter,county clerk.
The city of burbank has, uh, ofthe 70 000 registered voters,
they had 52,834 ballots cast forthe November 5th election,

(06:35):
representing a 74.97 return rateVery good.
Burbank Kostiakhi was theleading vote-getter with 18,694
votes, followed in second byChris Rizzotti with 15,973.
The race for second seat was aneck and neck, with Rizzotti
barely beating out Judy Wilkiewho amassed 15,253.

(06:58):
Just 720 votes short, notreally a lot of votes.
So those of you who did notvote there you go.
The date for someone to testthe results has now passed.
I can't believe the mythicalNick Couture has had anything to
say about it.
I think we'll never know whathe thinks, or even if he exists,

(07:19):
or who his puppet master reallyis.
Besides that the meeting isvery calm for a change and some
housing ordinances discussed andnot much else.
I predict they are done by 9pm,but we will see.
Wednesday Board of Librarieswill meet at the 5.30 At the
Central Library.
On the agenda is a presentationand an introduction of the new

(07:43):
director and oh, wait, wait,family.
Did I say family?
Oh, I said yes, I did.
I said family.
And of course you know whatthat means.
When you hear that noise itmeans it's the word of the week.
So all you have to do is sendan email to contest at

(08:08):
myburbankcom and in the subjectline put family and put your
name and address and like whereI'll be bringing this.
Last week you may win a $25gift card to a Burbank
restaurant.
So please send that email in.
And anyhow, let's get back toit here.
They're also going to talkabout the family engagement
programming and youth services.

(08:28):
They'll have a Friends of theLibrary update, the Library
Divisions and Services overview, library Safety update and the
ever-important Library Boardphoto.
The Library and Cultural ArtsCommission has been cancelled.
The Park and Rec Commission isscheduled to be at 6 pm at City

(08:50):
Hall, but no agenda has yet tobe posted, so tune in and find
out for yourself.
I guess let's count it until theweekend, and on the weekend we
have a few things going on, ofcourse all at the same time,
because that's how we do thingsin Burbank.
We don't separate things out,we just course all at the same
time, because that's how we dothings in Burbank.
We don't separate things out,we just do them all at the same

(09:11):
time, and you've got to pick andchoose what you want to go to.
So Saturday at 8 to 10 am, theDepartment of Parks and
Recreation and the Burbank TownCenter invite you to join Santa
for breakfast.
Enjoy some yummy food, holidaymusic and fun activities.
The Kitten Fair will beretrieved from the Bird Bank

(09:33):
Animal Shelter from 10 am to 2pm.
The Central Library will behaving frosty fun crafts.
From 10 am to noon They'llprovide supplies to make
snowflakes, cards, gift tags andmore to make for family and
friends.
No registration is required.
Required.
How do you like that?
But all at the same time.
So you just gotta jump from oneevent to the other.

(09:54):
I guess that now leaves us, aswe move on quickly.
Our show tonight with craig'scomment and my comment not a big
one, but it's it's more of a no, no people situation.
And here's what happened afterthanksgiving.

(10:16):
I asked somebody who's a goodfriend of mine, I go, well, how
was your thanksgiving?
And she said, oh, it was good.
I mean, we, the family, gottogether.
It was really nice.
I go how was your turkey?
She goes, I couldn't afford tobuy a turkey.
And I gotta tell you the truth,I was kind of devastated.
You know, sometimes we take forgranted that we're lucky enough

(10:43):
to be able to get, have thingsand the things we have, and we
don't always look at otherpeople's situation.
So I felt terrible.
Now for this christmas, I'mgoing to find out what they like
and maybe it's a ham orsomething.
I'm going to buy the by theirfamily, I guess, a ham or
something or whatever it is theyenjoy eating for for christmas

(11:04):
dinner, and I'm just going tobuy that out of goodness, you
know, just to do that for them, because if I can afford to do
that, I should do that.
And so what I'm saying is don'tassume people just have things,
because you see them on aneveryday basis.
If they're not, as maybe theydon't have the same benefits you

(11:25):
have, and maybe you can asksomebody hey, you know, are you
going to have a meal, how arethings going, or whatever, and
maybe you can help somebody elsewith their meal for Christmas
with the family.
I don't think you need to getpersonally involved and I know
you don't want to embarrasssomebody by asking their
situation, but if you thinksomebody might need something

(11:48):
like that or need something atthe holiday season to make a a
good christmas or a good, youknow, hanukkah or whatever it's
going to be, we'll support them,do something for them.
You know it probably is goingto take that much from you to do
that and probably mean a wholelot to them.

(12:10):
Let's face it, our grocery billshave gone up substantially and
you know we all feel that I'measily spending $50 more a week
than I used to spend, you know, two years ago at the store.
So, yeah, I get it, but I'mable to still get what I need.
There are people who can't dothat out there.

(12:32):
So all I'm saying is, as weapproach christmas and the
holidays whether it be christmasor hanukkah or whatever,
whatever you celebrate ifsomebody needs, you think they
need some help, give them a hand, because I'm sure that they
would really appreciate it.
It's not that you feel good.

(12:53):
It's so they feel good.
I don't know, that's my commentfor the week.
I know it's not anycontroversial or it's nothing
topical in Burbank, but I justthink sometimes you need to do
the right thing.
And it's nothing topical inburbank, but I just think
sometimes you need to do theright thing and it's important.

(13:13):
Anyhow, as always, we have ahumble request that you like
this video and please subscribeto the channel so youtube
continues to recommend thisvideo to others like yourself.
And also think about a channelmembership to support us.

month.

(13:33):
$2.99 a month and one of thebenefits you get is you get all
the videos in advance before thepublic does.
There's other perks we're goingto work on also too, but you
know, for as little as $3 amonth.
I think anybody can afford that.
So please get a membership, support us.
We'd appreciate that.

(13:54):
Anyhow, until next week andnext week we're going to have
the big meeting for the councilreorganization and it's going to
be interesting to see who isgoing to be voted in as vice
mayor.
So that's going to beinteresting to see who is going
to be voted in as vice mayor, sothat's gonna be a that'd be a
fun, a fun meeting to watch forthat reason.
Anyhow, that's it for craigsherwood.

(14:17):
I appreciate all you watchingon the youtube channel or
listening in your cars on apodcast channel, and we will
