(01:29):
Everyone loves beauty products, from applying Shimri colors to putting drops.
For me, it is more than It is not about
like looking good, but it is more about how you feel,
and it is more about that you care and prioritize
yourself at that moment of time at least so. But

(01:56):
as most of us know that this care comes with
a cost, and that cost is the cost to our planet.
It is not a secret that many beauty products that
we use are not that much eco friendly. So today
I'm going to talk about not only about self care

(02:19):
but also like how we can take care of our
planet while also using beauty products. So in short, I
will be discussing how beauty or cosmetic industry is transforming
itself to be more sustainable. So before we begin about

(02:39):
for like trends and innovation, let's first understand what is
a sustainable beauty. So, according to Florida Academy dot A DOU,
sustainable beauty focuses on minimizing the environmental footprint of beauty
products while promoting health conscious and ethical standards, which involves

(02:59):
eco any ingredients, using natural, organic and biodegradable material that
are ethically sourced. And brands are increasingly adopting biodegradable solutions,
plastic free packaging, and return and refiel alternatives to combat
the issue of packaging waste. For example, Loreal has committed

(03:25):
to making all its plastic packaging reusable, recyclable, and composable
by twenty thirty. Now let's see what are the latest
trend and innovation that is shaping the industry to be
more sustainable. Number one is zero waste and plastic free packaging.

(03:51):
If we talk about solid beauty products like bars, solid
moisturizers and other water les formulations, they are illuminating eliminating
the need of plastic bottles, uh, refillable containers. Many brands
are now offering refillable containers, resulting in reducing waste and
cost to consumers. And then there is biodegradable packaging. Companies

(04:18):
are also encouraging biodegradable biodegradable packaging. For example, Ika is
more focusing on mushroom packaging to reduce the waste. The
second is clean and natural ingredients. More companies are using
clean and natural ingredients. Companies are using plant based ingredients.

(04:41):
They are labeling every product uh sorry, every ingredients that
are used in the product and like this is this
is becoming a standard practice. They are encouraging more microbiome
friendly formula as well. The third is circular beauty, so

(05:02):
brands are using upcycle ingredients, using recycled tub made from
single type of plastic, and companies have also introducing take
back programs where they encourage customers to return empty containers
for recycling. The fourth is waterless products. So water conservation

(05:27):
is also gaining focus in beauty industry, increasing the concentrated
formula and power to foam products are in rice and
tech enabled sustainability. Again here also technology plays a vital
role in sustainability of beauty products. AI powered personalization blockchain
for transparency like where we track where we can track

(05:52):
all the ingredients from the source to shelf, ensuring that
there is ethical sourcing. Virtual trying on technologies are in
rise to reduce the waste. Now let's see what are
the innovations in this industry. Number one is biotechnology. So

(06:12):
biotechnology is revolution revolutionizing the way ingredients are produced, like
lab grown ingredients. So through through this company produce cruelty
free and sustainable lab grown ingredients, so sustainable alternatives to

(06:33):
the products which were earlier harming the wildlife or the environment,
but now they are they are more focused on making
something sustainable and engineered microbes, so brands are using genetically

(06:54):
modified microorganisms to produce cosmetic ingredients and reducing lines on
petro chemicals. The second is biomimicry in packaging. So earlier
I mentioned that Ika is using mushroom packaging, So mushroom packaging,
uh like they are even some other companies are also

(07:15):
experimenting with my solium based packaging as an alternative to plastic.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
They are also uh they are also uh seeing like
using They're also experimenting with seaweed based material. Uh, so
they can like just to create a biodegradable packaging. So now,
before we move forward to our next segment, let's take

(07:42):
a quick break.

we discussed about what trends and innovation. Uh. Here in
this segment we will discuss about what you can do
as as a consumer. So Number one is always choose

(09:13):
a product with UH that has sustainable and cruelty free
process or ingredients. UH, look for sustainable certificate and research
like do your research before purchasing, like how how the
how how this product has been sourced and what are

(09:35):
the processes that has been involved in making of this product?
And ask questions like increase your awareness and ask company
if you have any doubts. The next is what are
the challenges that a sustainable beauty productor what are the
challenges that companies or companies are facing while making a

(09:59):
sustainable beauty products? So number one is cost, So sustainable
ingredients and packaging often come at a higher price, which
can be barrier for some consumers. Performance ensuring that natural
and sustainable products perform as well as their conventional counterpart

(10:20):
is crucial for widespread adoption. And the third is green washing.
So this term means like, as sustainability becomes a marketing
UH marketing buzzword, there is a risk of UH there
is a risk of spreading misinformation or misleading claims about

(10:40):
the about the same UH. So UH this is what
green washing is. So that's all for today's episode. I
think this episode has UH has helped you to gain
some awareness about the beauty industry. Uh our the beauty industry. Yes,
the sustainable beauty products are in rice and I hope

(11:04):
it will It will give a good better shape to
the industry in the near future. And as a consumer,
we should just remember that it is good to take
care of yourself, but it is also very important to
be kind to our planet. Like always try to contribute

(11:25):
more than you take from our planet. And that's all
for today's episode. I hope you enjoy the rest of

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
