With defense and special teams forcing three turnovers, the Houston Texans still could not get it done against the Green Bay Packers, losing 24-22 at Lambeau Field. Brandon McManus made his Packers debut and nailed a 45-yard field goal as time expired to secure the victory. KPRC reporter Aaron Wilson joins Next Up to discuss Green Bay snapping the Texans three-game winning streak. The Texans did not have five starters in the lineup on defense and were unable to stop the Packers in the final drive. The offense struggled as C.J. Stroud was 10 of 21 for a career-low 86 yards and was sacked four times. "Not every sack was on the offensive line," Wilson said. However, the offensive line has "got to be coachable" after allowing seven quarterback hits. The heavy pressure on Stroud contributed to a disappointing passing game, with Tank Dell recording no receptions on four targets. Sunday's underwhelming performance brought up questions about the Texans' roster depth and whether general manager Nick Caserio could make a move prior to the NFL trade deadline on November 5. "I wouldn't rule it out," Wilson said.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now we're gonna introduce Aaron here. We'll ask if he's
got some time to hang around for another segment our
Texans and NFL Inside of here at seven ninety Aaron
Wilson was there in Green Bay. I also heard him
at n r G yesterday when Demico spoke, Aaron, good
morning to you.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Did you bring this lawyer you brong us some cheese back?

Speaker 3 (00:22):
I actually tried to order some cheese at a place
they called Titles found across the street from the Lambeau Fields,
and they were out of cheese. So it was Sunday
night and I couldn't have that with my dinner. But yeah,
no cheese. I didn't want to really pack like a
sweaty cheese in my suitcase and go to a store.
So I did that like several years ago, rookie move.

(00:45):
He never will do that. Yeah, don't want to do that,
don't recommend it.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
All right, So we're gonna get one question in here,
we'll break and then hopefully you can stay with us
on the other side.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Yeah, sorry for the delay. I was at a community
event with Hannah McNair and some subtle and something.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
I'm sorry, sir, this is not humble break Tuesday. But
we're glad that.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
All right? So check it. Uh, let's start with the
sound that we played. Demiko says, listen, the offensive line,
they must be corrected. Everything is on the table to me,
respectful to do Miko, that sounds like some coach speak.
They're not benching Laromy Tonzo. They're not gonna bench Titus Howard,
Juice Grugs is gonna be the center. They're not benching

(01:26):
Shaq Mason. So what reasonable solutions are you hearing in
the building? When Dimico says that, what can the fans
and we in the.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Media expect, right, what's reasonable to expect is a sense
of urgency and you know, putting people maybe on notice
that continue to play that way and we'll get someone else.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
On the play in that way.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
I'm sorry, but I don't think. I mean, I was
talking with someone pretty close to this, and the idea was,
you don't want to push the panic button because you're
five and two. You know, yes, it was a bad game.
There's no way to defend the way the offensive line performed.
That said, you know, they fixed the penalty issue, that

(02:13):
got better, and that was looking at one point like, well,
they'll just you know, commit you know, eight ten penalties
a game. So I mean it's all about coaching.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
So it's all on.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Chris Strausser Copopo. It's the offensive line coach, the Tim
Yanzer to do a job of getting these guys to
understand and also I think for Bobby's folk, understanding what
are your limitations? What is the offensive line? Like? Are
they bad at making the line calls? Should CJ. Stroud
be changing the protections? What I'm just seeing? And they
talk about communication, They're not being very communicative and definitive

(02:46):
about it, but it's really obvious they have problems when
people walk guys up and show blitz or don't show it.
And you know, for Juice Scrugs, a younger center, this
is some of the things that go with the growing pains.
A young sinner and a young guard next to him,
you have some vets and they make mistakes too. Those
guys they've all had penalties and things like that, and

(03:08):
they've all had pass protection breakdowns. Not every sack was
on the offensive line. You know, you saw the free
blitzer on Xavier McKinney. Daldon Schultz doesn't get a glove
on him. Titus Toward tripped over his own feet on
the shungary sack, and then they had problems. Where I'm
more concerned is why can't you stop with delayed fire
blitz and some of these loops are inside. This is

(03:30):
a gap B gap stuff. Eric Wilson is a backup
that only went in because kway Walker was concussed and
no relation to me, But I like his name, Eric Wilson.
But Eric was bawling. I mean, they got to block
these guys, They got to do better. But as far
as like benching everybody, like you say, whole sale changes,

(03:51):
I mean, Larry Tunstall is unventeable. I mean it's not
even Larry's fault.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Everyone.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
This is kind of go overshadowed. He had extremely high
blocking grade, the highest graded guy hit over at eighty
according to Football Focus Analytics, and most of the pressure
came on Kenyan Green was the lowest graded guy at
a twenty nine point zero, and he allowed a lot
of the pressures. It was a very rough game. I
would say a step back for Kenya Green, their former

(04:16):
first round draft pick. And you Scruggs had his struggles too,
so a lot of it was left guard and center.
So these are young players that you've drafted the first
round and second round respectably, coached them up, and they've
got to be coachable.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
All right, Well, Paul's here, let's break, gentlemen, let's come back.
Aaron Wilson, our Texas Insider, was that lambeau Field. He'll
join us and stay with us on the other side.
This is Sports Talk seven ninety where real Texans talk
and listen.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
This is Next Up with Stan Northfleet and Chris Gordying
next stage on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Second take Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Here on Next to Up sports Talk seven ninety at
home in Houston, sports Fleet, Gordy, this we go back
to the guest line. Aaron Wilson joins us, our Texans insider.
He's going to give us more insight.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Gordy.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
I fired off a couple of questions. We know Aaron
was up in lambeau and he heard Demiko live and
in person yesterday.

Speaker 5 (05:14):
Which guy I saw him? And Chancellor on Sunday night
on KPRC. They were like the last two guys in
lambeau Field though on shut her down? Did he Aaron
just give me a quick just a quick er Texas
place Sunday at noon against the Colts. Aziz al Shair,
Robert Woods, Kamari Lasser, Jimmy Ward, Henry Totoa.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Any hope for any of these guys back this week.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Yeah, they hope on Henry, but he is still in
the protocol. He's back in the building, which is usually
a sign that your symptoms are subsiding and if you're
feeling good enough to come to work and have some activity.
But we don't know yet if he'll practice Wednesday. I've
heard Aziz is a potential two week injury, so not
sure if he'll be able to go. Kamar Lasser with

(05:58):
Kamar Lasster, so the timetable was longer than this. He
is feeling better, I would be a little surprised if
he was able to play this week. There's mild optimism.
And then Jimmy Ward, he's still recovering from the groin injury,
not looking great for this one. So yeah, they're gonna
be missing some guys again. And obviously devil Ewid played

(06:18):
a good football game, a very good football game and
relief of disease, and so did Jake Hansen with Toto House,
so they might have to do that again. I think
it could be very similar in terms of personnel. Robert
Woods is dealing with plantar fasciitis and has been in
a walking boot, so unlikely to get back for this week.
Steven Simms Junior he has back spasms, that's why he

(06:38):
couldn't go, and while they had to have Desimon King
upper returns in addition to Tank Dell, So we'll see
if his back calms down. It's hard to predict on
back spasms when the muscles will calm down and he'll
be able to get out there and play again. But
not a long term injury. Probably a one week injury
for Steven Simms Junior and no real new injuries. They

(07:00):
were actually even though they got their but kikin Green Bay,
they emerged unscathed in terms of anything serious. So you know,
we'll see who practices on Wednesday. The better gauge is
Thursday and who the practice is in all right?

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Talking with Aaron Wilson again, our Texans insider here at
seven ninety. I heard this pop up yesterday and it's
intriguing and I want to spend some time in the
eleven o'clock hour. The likelihood for the Texans to add
a real player, like a like a starter level talent,
primarily on defense. We doubt there's an old lineman that

(07:36):
somebody's gonna let go to go contribute to the to
the offensive front, but on defense, especially in that secondary.
I think if something were to happen to Lasseter and Stingley,
Lord forbid so going to add somebody to the secondary,
primarily at corner.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
What are you hearing?

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Is it possible that Casario gets on the phone here
or is this what we're goding? We're rolling god BLEVEs
the Angelo Ross.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
No, I wouldn't rule it out. I think that he'll listen,
he'll he'll check it out. I think he'll he'll be involved.
I don't know if he'll ultimately make a move because obvious,
you know, someone else has to be willing to be
a trading partner. But I think he'll check it out.
I don't know if he'll pull the trigger on anything.
One thing I haven't mentioned is, and you know this

(08:24):
is probably gonna thrill anyone, but Jeff Okuda is expected
back as soon as the Detroit game, so they will
get some depth, and they spent some money on Jeff
with the former third overall pick. Other Lions. Maybe he's
back by then, So yeah, there's some hope that they
will get that depth at third forener because he was
supposed to be in that shack Griffin role that he

(08:46):
played last year behind Steven Nelson and Derrick Singley Junior.
So we'll see. But for now, yeah, it's ross and
until they get Kamari back. The good news is tomorrow
will be back. It wasn't the type of scapula fracture
that you need surgery for, so he's getting some feeling
back in his arm. It is making progress. It's just
a matter of when is it safe to put him

(09:07):
back on the field so that he doesn't have a setback.
I can also report Christian Harris will not be back
this week. He will not be atturning for practice. So
the calf. But still it was a bad setback with
the calf injury in training camp. Came back too soon,
reinjured it and that set back all of the progress.
And so he's still got to get the calf right

(09:29):
before they're gonna feel comfortable putting Hm out there. They
do expect him back at some point this season.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Did he tear it off the bone. What is going on?
Go ahead, go ahead.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
It's uh, there wasn't saving grace though. Aaron nevill Hewitt's
playing well. You know, he's a he's a guy who's
previously starred in the lague. He's playing well. Kaylin Bullock
is playing extremely well as the rookie safety. So it's
you know, look, it's a lot of negative after you
lose the game, but there are some positives to look at,
particularly with this defense.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
All right, Yeah, Neville hu is flying around and he's
got nine tackles, get a forty five interception return. He's always,
you know, been thought of as more of a two
down kind of linebacker, but he made a play in
coverage and I thought he showed good speed. He's pretty athletic.
He's just not the tallest guy in the world, but
he's a power packed guy that runs fairly well and

(10:17):
when he gets there, you know he's gonna hit you.
He led the NFL in special teams tackles last year,
and you've seen the soup plex tackles. I guess they'll
probably get fined for this new one. They said he
he said he didn't hear the whistle. But I like
a linebacker that plays to the echo. Of the whistle,
and that's who wu Is and Kaylen Bullock ballhowking instinctive
rookie safety, very athletic, very fun to watch a guy

(10:39):
that elevates for these interceptions, you know, to pick off
Jordan love Is, you know, it's a good quarterback, picked
off Anthony Richardson. He's picked off three of these guys,
and he leads the NFL in rookie interceptions. So he's
also a very fast start to his career, just as
Kamara last year was before this injury. So they nailed
both of these DV picks Nick Catario did, and I

(11:00):
think it's a credit to their scouting because it wasn't
like everyone was talking about them like their household names.
But they performed as well as anyone in the first
round or whatever round.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Talking again with Aaron Wilson, our Texans Insider. You also
see him on KPRC two, as Gordy mentioned there as
he was up in Lambeau gracious enough to join us
here at seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
I think about.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
I can't get it out of my head, the sequence,
the throw to Tankdale. It's really twofold, the throw to
Tankdale on whatever it was, third and twelve, third and
fifteen that would have been short of a first down,
and Demko says they were trying to go for a touchdown.
CJ says he didn't. He was trying to get to
de Miko, but he couldn't. They chose not to call
a timeout. Where they going for three? Were they going

(11:48):
for six? And then Tankdale having four targets four target
excuse me, granted a drop, but like Tankdale leaving a
game with zero catches is absurd. It's two questions in one.
Why do you see that? What are you hearing from
the guys in the locker room?

Speaker 3 (12:03):
Right? That's poor communication and that's on the offensive coordinator.
You've got to talk to the quarterback. And you know CJ. Stroud,
based on the interview, didn't seem like there was a
whole lot of talking during that two minute warnings. So
you know, you got to have those conversations. You got
to be ready. You shouldn't have to talk a whole bunch,
but you know, you do have the headset. I mean,
you can communicate, then you can just you know, it

(12:24):
doesn't have to be a long conversation to say, hey,
this is what we're trying to do. It's very obvious
to me they're playing for the field goal, and you
know that's what they wound up doing. I think CJ
was very succinct and accurate in what he said his
explanation after the game. Well, of course, I asked Bobby Slowan,
but the game is over, you know by the time
we're talking to him on Thursday and you're onto the

(12:45):
next What I see about the way they're running the offense.
They can't pass if you don't have any time. So
that's one of the reasons why you have age and
six yards fifty five net. If you can't pass protect
in getting Tank more involved, you'll Tank. I would have
been tough catch, but you know that's what he gets
paid to do, and he can't catch that ball. He
dropped it and that didn't like ly to a lack

(13:06):
of confidence. They did target him three more times. They
tried to get Stefan more involved, but only five catches
twenty three yards did not make an impact. You know,
after the pregame multcation with Dye, Alexander and Keshawn Nixon,
so I look at it on I think they just
weren't doing anything well as a passing attack. There was
one good play, the twenty eight yarder to Dalton Schultz

(13:27):
may throw to him more. You know, they didn't stop
it before, so keep going with that. I think they
were very wary too of Xavier McKinney, who entered Sunday
with five interceptions. They didn't turn the ball over, but
they were trying to be careful with the ball, and
I think they should have ran it even more. At
some point it was obvious to me they're not going
to protect and they're not throwing that well. I didn't

(13:48):
think DJ played one of his better games.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
All right, that's the voice of Aaron Wilson.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
