Speaker 1 (00:00):
Our Texans Insider. The Texans had the number one news
yesterday up until we got the min at May Park.
Aaron Wilson over at the Houston Methist Training Center as
the Texans wrapped up the tenth practice of this training camp. Aaron,
good morning to you, sir. How goes it? Are you hydrated?
You're comfortable now?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Good morning? Yes, I've had some water and I feel good.
We're done with all of our press conferences, which included
Davis Mills, Kaylin Bullock, and John Metchi the third as
well as of course head coach Tamiko Rance.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
All Right, the story is and we're pressed for time,
we really on this one, but I want to make
sure that you get in. Thank you for joining us.
Denico Autrey, thought to be a starter on this team,
has been suspended six games. What can you tell us?
What's going to be the ramifications here?
Speaker 2 (00:52):
All right? From what happened. His story is that he
took something that he didn't know was a banned substance.
But the NFL policy is very hard and fast. You
are responsible for everything you put into your body, so
you need to investigate anything that you take and make
sure that it's allowed you know to be ingested, So
(01:13):
it is your fault. No one else is. If you
have a positive test. It's not like, you know, they
spiked your thing or something. But you know, he's apologized.
He seems very contrite. He's at practice but not practice thing.
Dimiko Ryans was supportive of him. They said they stand
behind him as an organization. And obviously you know he's
made his apologies and he's yeah, he's let the team down.
(01:35):
This is a it's a negative. It's six games. It's
going to cost him about nearly one point eight million dollars,
and if they wanted to, they could avoid his guarantees,
they could try to take back some of the bonus.
I don't think they're going to play hardball like that.
It's my understanding that they won't. But it's a tough
look for him, and he's an excellent football player. When
(01:55):
you don't have him out there, you really you're missing
something because he's a double digit sack guy, he's got
a lot of moves, he's a very tough guy. He's
an outstanding football player. So you do lose something, they
may be deep enough to sustain that for six weeks.
With Mario Edwards, junior. He's also had a very good camp,
(02:18):
so he steps in. He's now first on the depth chart,
and it's probably what it winds up being is somebody
that was not going to make the team will make
the team now and that could be one of the ends,
it could be one of the tackles, whatever combination they
try to go with for the best line, but it
does impact them. That was that third rusher where you've got,
(02:39):
you know, Will Anderson with the potentially be double digit sacks.
I was with Neil Hunter, one of the most prolific
pass rushers, and then you had a third, So you know,
someone has to step up. Mario Edwards, Derek Barnett, you know,
you see something. You know, maybe Jerry Hughes at age
thirty five still got something and still gets to the quarterback.
He had three sacks last year, a lot of sacks
(02:59):
that you're so, yeah, it creates an early challenge for them.
They've been aware of it for a long time. Obviously,
he went through the appeal process and it didn't work out.
The suspension stands. It is final, and you know he
can sue the pharmacy or whatever that's you know, basically
on him. Yeah, that doesn't you know, it's familiar germane
(03:20):
to the topic at hand, which is how the the
Texans adjust. I think they have a good enough defense
that this is not like oh, seasons ruined. But yeah,
not good. I mean it's and it's a bad look.
It's one of those things. Even if it's a mistake,
it's a bad mistake to make.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
And player's ultimately held responsible for what goes in your body.
That just is what it is. Do players, Yeah, players
fall circumstance to or fall victim to circumstance where sometimes
the pharmacies do, or the chefs do, or the nutrition
is due make mistakes and it ends up costing the player. Uh,
cutting you short on purpose just because again I'm looking
at the clock. Just give me real quick an observation
(04:01):
or two from practice today. We need to be out
in like a minute.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Od day, sweltering. Thought they got some good work. They
had practiced. Was the longest, the hottest practice they've had.
Did have Brevin Jordan not finished the practice, Nico Collins
had to go into the ice box that they have
next to the field to cool off a little bit.
Seems okay, we didn't finish. I'm sure, he's fine. And
then we still you know, they're missing guys, and they
(04:25):
have a new injury. Charlie Heck injured his foot and
so they are thinner now on tackle depth where they're
gonna do further testing today to see how long Charlie
will be out. And the good news, Titus Howard was
able to practice after getting checked out and finishing the
other practice, so he's okay. And then last thing I
(04:46):
would say, even though they made no announcements, he said
the young guys are gonna play. I agree with that.
I think we won't see CJ. Stroud and a bunch
of these other guys. I don't think it's a coincidence
that Davis Mills address the media today. I think we'll
se Davis Mills play extensively against the Chicago Bears, and
I look for this to be something of a Rookie Bowl,
(05:06):
backup bowl Thursday night for football Hall of Fame game.
Absolutely no reason to play CJ. Stroud or any of
these main guys, but I do expect to see Kamari
Laster and Healyn Bullock. I think some of those young players.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Talking to play, no doubt about it. Aaron Wilson, our
Texans an NFL insider here Sports Talk seven ninety from
the Houston Methoids Training Center, where the Texans wrapped up
practice about an hour ago. Thank you so much, Aaron
Say travels up to Ohio and we'll certainly look to
