Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's ask somebody that has seen I would presume nearly
every snap of the aforementioned Jordan Love again Packers Hall
of Famer Pro Football Hall of Famer played his college
ball in the ACC at Florida State. Former defenser back
in this league. Larroy Butler joins the show. LaRoy, good
morning to you. How you feel this morning?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Good morning. You don't need to bore people with all evacolates.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Just every day you talk to a hall of famer,
one of the best they ever do it in this game.
So while we're waiting to get you queued up there
and appreciate you joining us this morning, we were talking
about Jordan Love and correct me if I'm wrong. The
thought up your way is that lucky you you go
from FARV to Rogers. Is Jordan Love who really took
(00:44):
off the latter half of last season into this season.
Do you guys really feel that you have one of
the elite quarterbacks in the game.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Yes, Lord, anyway, the same way you guys should be
feeling about c Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Old reason, I stroud to fourth year. That's our guy
and our guys better than your guy. Will go ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yeah, we call it the light skin bold but it's okay, listen.
I know what people are thinking. After the two potential
Hall of Famers, there's no way they can do it again.
But guys, it goes back to two things that the
head coach with the Texans did and the head coach
(01:25):
of the Packers. The head coach the Texans, he said,
I got a brilliant plan. I can get Willie Anderson
and CJ. Stroud. Well, what do we have to give up?
It don't matter. I need those guys. That's going with
the Packers and twenty twenty aon Rogers back to back
(01:46):
MVP Matt Lafleur Gudha kunts like, yes, we have a
Hall of Fame quarterback, but I want to be good
in the future. Okay, So I give him credit for
having guts to choose Jordan Love from Utah State, not
some big school. They did that, dude, diligence, and we're
(02:06):
thrill to death.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
It's interesting, Lroy, as we look at this game. I mean,
these are two really good teams, and you know, we
always look at the schedule when it comes out and say, oh,
thank god, this isn't in December. The Texans had to
go play in you know, four feet of snow or
something Jesus, But you know, it looks like it's going
to be I think I even saw yesterday tempts are
you know, in what sixty seventies, so it will actually
be pretty friendly weather. But to me, both teams got
(02:32):
to get the run game going. As much as you
want to focus on CJ. Stroud and focus on Jordan Love,
to me, this is more of Josh Jacobs and Joe Mixon,
two of probably more of the underrated running backs. Like
I think when they're both healthy, they're still both top
ten caliber running backs, but they probably don't get the
love that they deserve. But what do you make of
this run game? Because Stallet's talking about a few minutes ago.
(02:54):
Jacob's only found the end zone once this year. He
hasn't even scored a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
At home yet, and he has had a h yards yet.
But to us, it's not about yards and it's about attempts.
Like Joe Mixon had thirty carres to get in Annapolis,
one of the worst run defenses, but that's fire. He
had thirty attempts, so you have to attempt it. At
(03:18):
some point. We weren't given Josh Jacobs attempts. It was
eight or nine, but here lady has been nineteen, so
he've been getting twenty five touches. That's our key. And
the Packers don't let Jordan Love get sacked. And they
love to run the ball. A lot of misdirections, motions
(03:40):
and shifts and things of that nature because our really
our game, which is no secret. We want to play
action and go down the field. That's no secret. Everybody
knows that. But I play defense my whole life. Every
time you move, one guy does a potential big play
because you only need one backup corner of safety not
to get the call from the other side, and he's
(04:03):
a guy wide.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Open, no question.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
That's what we rely on.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Josh Jacobs, I remind our listeners, is fifth in the
league right now in rushing yards at four hundred and
sixty four, give or take about twenty behind Sakuon Barkley.
We know Derrick Henry, the monster that he is there
in Baltimore talking with l Roy Butler, pro Football Hall
of Famer defensive back, was in that damn green and yellow.
(04:28):
As the song says, soul Man go yellowing. Just might
as we be, but I'll call it gold to show
you some respect. So let me let's let's pivot the CJ. Stroud,
Stefan Diggs, Joe Mixon, Dalton Schultz. How scary do you
find our offense here in Houston? Granted Nico is out
(04:48):
on injury reserve. Right now, go and take down too.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
He gets deep in a miss in a hiccup. To me,
you really need a quarter bag that can take the
film of when they played in Minnesota, balled up, throw
it away, that don't mean nothing. You got to have
a quarterback that's not bothered. That's why I love CJ. Stroud,
(05:14):
That's why I love his mom. I need somebody just
like Jordan Love. If you go in all his press conferences,
he sounded the same. They can put up points. They
got three wide receiver tighten one tight end set from
the ball out of that sometime that gives teams some difficulties.
So you have to pick your poison. But CJ's battle tested,
(05:38):
and you to my playing in the weather. He played
at Ohio State at this game. If it was snow
and windy and raining, lest it don't matter. You're all
proing all weather. That's why we try to put We
try to with our defense with Jeff Hadley, we like
to funnel the football to make you throw where we
(05:58):
want you to note you want to because of course
we got the best safety in the league. I'm a
twenty nine if you don't know, because this is the
uncommon NFC opponent, so you don't play a lot of
these NFC teams. But this secondary and this deepense get
more turnover than anybody in the league. That's their thing.
So they're gonna try to funnel the football to go
(06:19):
where you wanted to be, well, we wanted to be,
not where you wanted it to be. And then that's
when they get you.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Well, I'll get you out of here with this one.
You mentioned that it is an NFC opponent, obviously that
the Texans being in the other conference. Steph Diggs has
been in that division. He knows what that's about. Danil
Hunter has been in that division. He knows what that's about.
Joe Mixon, he's played in the AFC North. I'm not
(06:47):
worried about him going on the road, big environments, being
outdoors on grass I'm not worried about Joe Mixon. So
we've got guys that have been in environments comparable to
that or in that division gives me a bit more
confidence than I otherwise would have. I say that to
ask our last question again, as Larroy Butler Pro Football
(07:08):
Hall of Famer, also in the Green Bay Packers Hall
of Fame. The environment Sunday in Lambeau it's a white
out and he got the unis on, and folks like
yourself probably gonna be roaming the sidelines, and y'all here
come my Texans who haven't just the third time the
Texans have been up there, and I think we've won
one time up there in a walk off field. Go
(07:28):
do you make anything into the home field advantage of
Lambeau Field on a what do they call it, Gordon
a winter warning type of Sunday.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Well, I will say this, if you're a rookie, if
you're a guy who've never played in the state, it
could be intimidating. That's just the first quarter. After that,
the best team wins because you can always silence a
crowdy like you can get a crowd up. So what
I always tell people when I go into a stadium
that I've never been in historical site, After like the
(08:01):
first quarter, it's over with. Now you can just play.
But yes, it is't something to go into the stadium.
But I will say this though, we use it to
our advantage to let other teams know that this is
the place it's gonna be hard to play for. We've
lost home games as well. We lost to Minnesota at home,
so it ain't like the place you can't win. But
(08:23):
you got to play a flawless game to win at
Lambo because that's when the defense get the turnovers. And
joy Love is averaging two to three touchdowns right now,
He's eight touchdowns in the last two home games. Brett
Farb never did that, and I think Aaron Rodgers did it.
Maybe Brett did it in ninety five. I'm gonna put
(08:44):
that to the side. But again, I love your coach,
very well coached team. I love a quarterback, and of
course I'm a big pack of fat. This is this
go in the end. This is the Super Bowl preview.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Oh, I'll take that if you tell me the Texans lose,
because we're gonna be without five or six defenders and
we'll meet you ass again in New Orleans. We're gonna
have a different conversation, Larry Butler. We might have to
put a dinner on it at that point, but until
the end made the best team win. I think y'all
will be the best team on Sunday where you won
your Super Bowl New Orleans.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Yep, facts all tack super Bowl thirty one. Oh, I
say we going. I think y'all going too.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Oh. I love to meet you in New Orleans. We
can have this conversation again. We're well over, but it
was well worth it. Pro Football Hall of Famer, Packers
Hall of Famer played this ball again? Did it big
boy style there in Tallahassee. Appreciate lo Word Butler joining
us here on next up on a football Friday. I
know he's picking the pack to win. We'll see the
scores that Gordon I have for you any eleven o'clock hour, LaRoy,
(09:46):
We'll appreciate it. Please follow him if you happen to
be a Packer fan here in the Houston area, let
me get this man social. You can follow him at
where did I just have it was? Leap thirty six
is where you can get him on the ex platform.
Thanks so much, mister Butler.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
Packers thirty full Texas twenty eight, y'all take care of now.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
I don't know that I agree with that score, that's
why I hung up on them.
