Speaker 3 (00:04):

Next s up, the next step, take the next step,

Speaker 4 (00:12):
This team, This is next up with ten Norfley, ten
Chris Gordy.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Let's see what's next? Next next?
Speaker 5 (00:23):
What's e everybody to two here in ahe town, it's
next up. Sports Talk seven to ninety Chris Gordy. Here
with you stand Northfley as well as your Texans. Have
a day well, no, not a day off. It's a
short week. A game on Thursday. Take it a little
light yesterday, but yeah, one of those weird weeks where
(00:46):
no day's off. You jump right back into this thing
because you got a game Thursday nights two nights from tonight.
Gonna be interesting to see how they match up with
the New York Jets.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Rock It's gonna win last night.
Speaker 5 (01:01):
Good to see them get back to five hundred on
the Young Season two and two also have some guests
joining us along the way. Ben Dubo's will join us
at hour number two to talk about the Rockets and
their victory last night. Also, we'll talk with Aaron Wilson
at the bottom of this hour. Get a health check
who's gonna go Thursday night? Who's not for your Houston
(01:23):
Texans as six and two one of the best records
in football. Man, you'd love to get a win here
on Thursday night. Get to seven and two. Feel really
good with extra rest, extra time off. Stay welcome in sir,
how are you? Good morning to the good people a chtown.
What's going on?
Speaker 1 (01:42):
My favorite city?
Speaker 6 (01:43):
Thanks to the folks downstairs in the building that got
me on the elevator.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
It was an issue today.
Speaker 6 (01:49):
Yeah, my badge was not allowing me to do the
work thing. Nonetheless, let's try and be professional for the
remainder his program. Appreciate you opening as Chris Gordy standing Northfleet,
that's me. Who is that over there? Oh there's Conneddy
McGovern he's got on his Texas logo. Gord appreciate you
opening And as this is second take Tuesday, you've already
outlined the guests. It's gonna be a little abbreviated, right
(02:11):
because today being Tuesday, given that the game is Thursday,
means this is technically a Friday show because it's going
That's how Demko and his crew have to treat it
over at Kirby as they take the practice field today.
This is a Friday for them, so I can't imagine
he's gonna make them put on pads. He's been talking
a lot, has Demiko about rest and recovery, so I
(02:34):
anticipate this will be more of a walkthrough and a
mental day of practice for those guys. And so before
we get into the Jets, because now we know that
Week eight in the NFL has come and gone. Steelers
get a narrow victory over the New York Giants last night.
I heard a stat that Daniel Jones for the Giants
is something like one in fifteen in primetime games as
(02:56):
a New York Giant. Now, I don't know if that's
the overall team since he he's been nailed as his record,
but good god, he's just not the guy. I don't
know why they paid him. God bless him. He's Charlotte
native and all those things, but what.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
Else Pittsburgh's good man, they're identical records.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
You now, six and two.
Speaker 6 (03:13):
Pittsburgh currently sits third in the AFC, right behind the
Texans in the two spot. We know Kansas City's undefeated
touchdown victory for them on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
You know what they don't have ers.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
You know what, they don't have a Pittsburgh stead a
bunch of three point wins like the Texans.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Dude, they actually put away their opponents.
Speaker 6 (03:29):
They are well coached. Are the Pittsburgh Steelers. And Russell
Wilson got to looking like Russell Wilson last night. The
old Russell Wilson showed up through an absolute BB to
George Pickens on the near sideline and that ultimately resulted
in points.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
Harris running well, he's had three straight hundred yard rushing games.
Speaker 6 (03:47):
And we know the Steelers is gonna always be able
to play defense and rush the passes. So think about
we don't have to deal with them right now. So
we're good on that Jets coming up. There's something in
the athletic that I want to get into. But before
we get into the Jets game this Thursday, just a
few things that I want to highlight and point out
(04:07):
to you. Having gone back and looked at the game
Sunday's game again, I would say the offensive line is
as much of an issue as it's being advertised now.
They both Demiko on the Flagship Station and Nick Cassio.
They both have said and Conn i'd like to hear
(04:29):
from Dimiko's We finally got a chance to hear from
him after he gone back and seeing the tape. We'll
play some Demiko here in just a moment. They are
telling the people, gord it that the offensive line is
not as much of an issue. It's being overblown. The
word they use is it's a narrative. I respect Nick
Casserio and Demiko. They know more about their football team
(04:51):
than I do. But I'd like to think, given my credentials,
I am astute enough to have an educated observe about
what we see on Sunday. The offensive line is absolutely
a major concern.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
CJ.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
Stroud is among the league leaders in getting pressured, sacked,
hits on the quarterback. Now you add plays being made
in the backfield, you start looking at the tackles for
loss by the opposition. I said yesterday Gordon, that has
been confirmed for me in going back and looking at
the tape the all twenty two the opponent's defenses, Gordon,
(05:33):
they're just playing downhill on the Texans like they have
no regard. As excellent as Joe Mixon have been, they
have no regard for the Texans blocking them on consistent
basis add all dudes are just pinning their ears back
and they are flying in the gaps.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
And I am further convinced the.
Speaker 6 (05:54):
Texans offensive line, Gordy, for me, they don't know who
to block given the looks that are being thrown at
them across the board.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
And you know how the old line works, Gordon.
Speaker 6 (06:04):
If one dude doesn't know, it's one chink in the
armor and the whole thing comes tumbling down. Go look
at the CJ pitch. We all know the third and
two going in late in the fourth quarter. The CJ
pitch the mixing like there's a defender. One guy beat
Robert Woods and catsed over like they couldn't get it together.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Go look at the CJ.
Speaker 6 (06:27):
I think that was the play before they do the
screen out to Menchi. If the defender looks up, I
think it's cornerback Kennymore. If the defender looks up, that
could be a pick six. They don't know who to
block consistently.
Speaker 5 (06:42):
Well, And I sent you a video yesterday of dari Ogibiwalley,
Oh Darky. He had to keep taking on the Forest
Buckner because the Buckner is beating his guy, and so
Darry is like the last light of defense there and
he's a little guy just trying to do anything he
can to slow down this much coming at them.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
And yeah, man, that's what's concerning too. Stands.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
There are so many times we're keeping in the running
back to block and it's like even that is not
fully slowing down what these pass rushers are doing.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
So I'm not making this up. We all have watched
this team now. C J.
Speaker 6 (07:19):
Stroud is one of the most pressed quarterbacks under duress
in the NFL and instead of a head coach. And
I know many of you differ with my observation in
terms of how the coaching quarterback should be addressing the
offensive line.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Now.
Speaker 6 (07:34):
Some people say, well, you don't want to undress the
guys and embarrass the guys, and I'm not talking about that,
but there is a way to create a sense of urgency.
And I said this on the eighteen yesterday afternoon for
hour weekly hits on Mondays at five. I don't believe
the Miko when it comes to it's gonna get fixed.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
I just don't.
Speaker 6 (07:54):
If they were going to fix it, if they truly
were going to bench Kenyon Green, they would have done
it on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
They didn't.
Speaker 6 (08:01):
If they were truly going to beis lamby Tunzel when
they had the opportunity to do it when he was
getting penalties and he's still getting the penalties, they would
have done it.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
They're not going to do it.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
Uh, Adam J Wexler, one half of the Adams on
the eighteen yesterday, going to ask me, and I'm gonna
ask it to you. Do you believe the starting five
on Thursday will be any different than the starting five
was this past Sunday Because.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
I do not, no, not on a short week, not
on the Patterson and concussion. Yeah, I mean, if it
was a full week and Patterson wasn't dealing with the concussions,
I would absolutely give him a chance at left guard.
But the thing you get, the one you gotta worry
about those standa is you know we love Will Anderson
junior right taking third overall, the guy taking twelve picks
after him in the draft, Will McDonald having a monster
(08:46):
your eight sacks this year. Will's great too, Will's had
seven and a half. But this might be a twesome
We're talking about for decades to come of. Like they
were in the same draft. Look at well, well McDonald's doing.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
He's a monster. We see this.
Speaker 6 (09:00):
Will Anderson is a monster because he's done it for
now two seasons. Will McDonald is having a hell of
a year and I'm not going to discredit that. It's
hard to do in the NFL three. He's not even
close to being these lives under Will Anderson Jr. What
I do want to do? Demiko? Y'all think I'm making
this up If you didn't hear this Demiko address in
the media yesterday, Coach, we've seen the tap for eight games. Now,
(09:21):
how do you feel about your offensive line here? Coach
to Miko Rance.
Speaker 7 (09:24):
We ran the ball well, Joe and over one hundred
yards rushing. He's continued to shows up, show up big
time for us in the run game. The way our
guys blocked up front and the run game and the
way they you know, not only the front, but our
tight ends, our receivers, everybody involved. Guys did a really
good job of working to stay attached and finished there.
(09:46):
In our passing game, though we had some lot of
really good reps. In the passing game, CJ was able
to make a lot of plays and go through his progression,
I mean, go in full field reads.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
What are we talking about.
Speaker 7 (09:58):
He's only able to do that with good Texans from
all of our guys.
Speaker 6 (10:04):
Coach, your quarterback in the third quarter was being pressured
on seventy one percent of his dropbacks. By the end
of the game, it was down to fifty seven point
five according to next year stats. That's still a career
high for CJ to be pressure Coach, tell me about
your press post, Demiico Ryans again continues.
Speaker 7 (10:23):
What CJ is able to throw for as much as
he threw for and make the players he's able to make.
Of course, guys did a good job in the passing game.
And look, everybody wants to talk about the past block
and those down guys did a good job, you know.
And overall we've had a lot of good reps in
the passing game. So let's talk about those good reps
(10:43):
that we've had.
Speaker 6 (10:45):
Demiico Ryans, brother, I respect you, I do, and Chris
drass A, the O line, coach, tomsl and the rest
of those boys up front, I respect you. Your job
is unfathomably hard for a lot of people, but I
just couldn't disagree with you more. And this is the
thing that bothers me. Gordon we're gonna continue this on
the other side. We'll open up the phone line seven
one three two one two five seven ninety second Take Tuesday.
(11:07):
There are other observations from the film. The offensive line
is as bad as advertised. Go look at the next
gen stats, Go look at Pro Football Focus, go look
at past block win rate. They're not good. And we
have a head coach that's telling us to believe they're good.
(11:27):
And I don't believe he's going to do anything to
change that. And that's just unfortunate because there are some
other things that he could at least try that they.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Don't want to. Now he knows more about his team
than I do.
Speaker 6 (11:42):
Your quarterback is getting hit and you're telling me that's okay.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
What do you think that's telling the quarterback?
Speaker 6 (11:48):
See j I'm sorry, but we need you to go
do what Borrow did in his second year. Just go
be better than a piss poor offensive line. It's gonna
be okay. Stop telling me that. I'd rather the Miko
come to the pot and just say, look, the old
line is what it is. We've got to be better.
No changes are coming. Changes can't come in your residential
(12:10):
or commercial life. However, the good people at JB. Thibodaux
Homes and Properties can assist you wherever you are, whether
you're rehabbing or your building from the ground up. They
are not your average home builder, not only because they're
third generations building. Shout out to Mahomie James. You see
them on the billboards around town and wherever you want
to build, whether it's inside the Loop maybe on the Beltway.
(12:32):
I was up off two ninety this past weekend. Help
spend some time up in Spring making my way up
to the witness here. They got good things going up there.
Wherever you are. Go to Jbthibodeau dot com for more
intel or how they can bring your real estate visions
to reality.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
All right.
Speaker 6 (12:47):
They can also assist you in designing this thing so
that you maximize your acreage to complement your quality finishes
to put dollars back in your pocket, whether you want
to live there yourself in one of their duplex or
whether you want to while let's flip this thing in
which obviously the Houston area is one of the top
real estate markets in the country, let's go to the
(13:08):
real estate professionals and good people, great people, and that
matters to me. I need to work with good people.
You can't just have good work and I don't like you.
What do you believe in? When I'm doing dealing with
the most important financial decision of most of our careers.
It is the home building or rehabbing process.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Go to JB. Thibodeau dot com.
Speaker 6 (13:27):
Tell them stan Fleet was feeling a little bit better
once you went to JB.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Thibodau dot com.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
Standing Northfleet.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
It's just a five.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
Chris Cordy, be next Up the next Up mentality on
your radio.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Every about or that you go through prepares you for
the next.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
Welcome back to Next Up on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 7 (13:53):
For all of our players when it comes to coaching,
and it's all about, you know, just being positive and
uplifting guys and trying to help them as best we
can with techniques, fundamentals. Try to help our guys to
go out and play their best. And it's always encouragement
from everyone. Right as we all know, we are all
still in the bitch. We have to get our job done.
(14:14):
And no matter what position you play, no matter you
know what's your role like, you have to go out
and get your job done and you have to play
to the best of your ability. So we'll keep encouraging,
We'll keep uplifting our guys. Everything about hearing what we
do is about positive energy and that's what So that's
who I am, that's what I represent, and that that
won't change to.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Work at him.
Speaker 6 (14:37):
Head coach Amiko Ryans still maintains confidence in those that
occasionally he has to remove from their starting spots.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Gordon.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
We've seen him bench Jalen Petrie in the past. We've
seen him put Damian Pierce on the bench. This is
last year. This year is corporate. Kenyon Green. I don't
call it a benching because he removed him for ten snap.
Jar Patterson gets concussed and then Kenyon Green goes back
in the game instead of trying Kendrick Green or moving
(15:07):
Tightest over the left guard for the remainder of the
game until they can find something else. I don't know,
man Like it's I just disagree with coach here, and
I don't disagree when it's overall point. Yes, you can't
freak out if you're with the team. You need to
stay positive, Gordy. I understand you need to have an
optimistic outlook and all that's cool, But if you're truly
(15:29):
trying to send a message to your locker room that
a baseline level of play is unacceptable.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
I just disagree with the messaging.
Speaker 6 (15:37):
And when I went back and looked at the tap
second take Tuesday, no, it was not all bad. It
wasn't There were some plays in there that they executed appropriately.
But when you add it all up over the course
of sixty minutes, over the course of eight ball games,
this offensive line has underperformed.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
It's nothing wrong with saying that.
Speaker 6 (15:57):
There's nothing disrespectful about saying they underperformed. And thank god,
you've got a beast of a man in Joe Mixing
mad Man mixing out there bowloing fools, letting them know
that he's still one of the best backs in the league.
Speaker 5 (16:10):
Is this Joe's spotted trying to sell us on, Look,
we believe in Ryan Presley and like you just.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
Keep well, the film doesn't lie. He's not good anymore.
It's worse than that we believe in him.
Speaker 6 (16:20):
No, this is Joe as spotted telling us that they
can't achieve their goal with Jose, without Jose and Brady
at first base.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
That's where this is.
Speaker 5 (16:28):
At least Jose Bradley was a former MVP Kenyan Green
good lord than nothing. So again, the offensive line is
just one piece of the things that I saw that
was as bad as advertised. Now, on a positive note,
on National tight End Day yesterday on Sunday in the NFL,
I thought Kate Stover and Dalton Schultz in the past
(16:50):
game had their best game that I've seen to date together.
Kate Stover, you know, makes a man miss, breaks a tackle,
he pops off a big one. And there's Dalton Schultz
in the middle of a field a couple times. Let
me look at it because you remember Gordy a week ago,
only one receiver, only Steph Diggs had multiple receptions from
(17:13):
a wide receiver or a tight end standpoint.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
This week the story's a little different. There's Shultz with
four catches. Tain't deal with four catches. Match it with three.
Stover has a couple, Robert Woods has a couple. So
that is an improvement. I like what I saw there.
We did not acknowledge Damian Pierce the kickoff return game
right off the rip, the opening kickoff return, How long
(17:36):
was that, Gordy? That was thirty nine yard kick off?
Excuse me, forty five yard kickoff return for Damian Pierce.
The problem they let Dolan in the second half he
ripped off fifty five yards in the kick return game
for the Colts. Matt Gay narrowly knock seeing one off
the glass off the upright in the first half.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
What is it?
Speaker 6 (17:59):
I believe it's when t one Field goes in a
role now for a Kymi fairband at home. I have
the utmost confidence if the Texas are at home and
they put Keemi out there, Emy's gonna knock run through.
Just a few other things that I saw during the tape.
Jaln Petrie again, hell of an interception, tough play, Petrie
trying to guard Josh downs the what almost touchdown there
(18:23):
on the pipeline, and then Jalen Petrie tackling Jonathan Taylor.
I believe that was in the first quarter in the
open field. I really like what Petri's done. Demko was
complimentary of Jalen Petrie yesterday when he took to the podium.
For the sake of time, I won't play that here.
We'll keep pushing Gord to take some phone calls, shall we,
as the people have called in go to anything that
you want to add to the conversation. I just push
(18:45):
back on what coach is trying to sell us that
we're making and he and Cassarrio on the flagship the
narrative of the offensive line.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
It's not that bad Larry mc tunzel.
Speaker 6 (18:54):
Right now according to Pro Football Focus, again not the gospel,
but I'm not gonna ignore it. The thirty second ranked
tackle in all of pro football? Where is he being paid?
Where this is a guy that was in the top
one hundred in the NFL last year, Like, what are
we doing? I'm not gonna just point to Kenyon Green.
It's more than just him. Give me a metric that
(19:17):
tells me this is one of the better offensive lines
in the league. And given the names that are up there,
Gordian should be what's wrong with acknowledging? They are underperforming
and it is going to hurt this team literally and
figuratively if they don't get things buttoned up?
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Can they sure they can? We're eight games in.
Speaker 6 (19:35):
That's forty seven percent of the season over a seventeen
game year, seventeen game season, seventeen game year, forty seven
percent of the way. And you want me to believe
magically as legs get more tired, as bodies get more bruised,
as the weather gets ready to turn. There's something gonna
somehow magically just come together. Maybe clans in Jersey Village
(19:59):
go ahead, Hey, good morning, Good morning gods. So look,
I agree one hundred percent and I'm I'm gonna hit
something right quickly. You guys tell me what you think Strasa.
These guys are not responding to him. Seemed like they
responded more to CJ than they ASTRASA. CJ got on
him a couple of times during the game and the
guy stepped it up a bit.
Speaker 8 (20:19):
Strasa.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
They are not responding. It tells me that either they.
Speaker 9 (20:22):
Don't trust him or is something going on in the
locker room. But those guys are not responding to him.
I don't know if this is his last year. We'll see,
but I want to know what you guys think about Strasa.
Is it time to replace him with somebody ship we
wait till the last the end of the year. I
don't know, but I want you guys to tell me
(20:42):
and I listen. Thank you appreciate the call.
Speaker 6 (20:45):
Clarence in Jersey Village asking if it is time to
put offensive line coach Chris Strauser under more observation. Look,
we know last year that Strauser had not previously coached
this outside scheme the way that Bobby Sloyd wants to
execute it, So we gave him a mull again last year.
I thought with healthy bodies, which he has mostly had
(21:06):
this season on the offensive line, given how guys have
been compensated in the amount of snaps that you've got
Tunsul and Kenyon excuse me, Tunso, Shaq Mason and Titus Howard,
they played a lot of football, I thought it'd be better.
It was the number one thing that was a concern
for me. People were talking about a CJ slump. People
were talking about would you miss johnthrom Gnard, all type
(21:30):
of stuff, going to get the Neil Hunter, Oh, the
defensive tackles being jettison out of here. Number one thing
for me is this offensive line has got to be better.
They should be playing like a top ten offensive line
in this league. And for the coaching staff over there
to tell me they are and the management just disagree,
I haven't seen that with consistency. Let's take one more.
(21:52):
We'll go to break corner. I see michaelen Heights, friend
of the station, friend of the show you are next up.
Speaker 10 (21:57):
Hey man.
Speaker 11 (21:58):
The only reasonly won that game is Anthony Richardson in
the first half was like what two of Yeah, with
an interception due it was, That's the only reason we
won that game. And we still barely won by field
goal and the interception that Petrie got. You got it, man,
you gotta get that. You gotta get that a touchdown
like on the next possession, and like, I was so
disappointed when they whenever.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
They kicked the field goal off of that.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
I was like, dude, you.
Speaker 11 (22:22):
Got to punish them for turning it over. And they
turned it over in the red zone basically on the
other way. So this team is in trouble and we
need to trade guys.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Have you scoured? I mean, who could?
Speaker 3 (22:31):
I mean, you need a left guard. I mean, I
think that.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Would probably be the most important.
Speaker 11 (22:36):
Position, you know, And you know Nico Collins, he's go out.
And I was like, have we heard about Steph Diggs?
Speaker 8 (22:42):
Is he out?
Speaker 2 (22:43):
And it looked like he popped his knee.
Speaker 6 (22:44):
Man, Yeah, it's funny you bring that up. Not that
funny that obviously, Steph. And all the reports are preliminarily
Michael that it is in acl let's get the latest
with the gentleman as going to join us. Next we
will talk about the potential to add someone to the
offensive line, as well as injury updates and where the
team's mentality is heading into short week. Back on the
(23:06):
practice field today are the Texans. Aaron Wilson, our Texans insider,
joins us on the other side. This is next up,
real Texans talking. Listen to seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Next seth continues.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
It was not having next, okay.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Here's chat north Fleet time, Chris Cordy, it's not having
next okay? What sports suck?
Speaker 6 (23:23):
Seven half an hour into a Tuesday? Second take Tuesday,
gone back and looked at the tape and game management,
my clock management Gordon Shane Steichen has rubbed off for
me because I've got us way behind. So with no
further ado, let's go to the guest line now. Welcoming
(23:45):
in our Texans insider here at seven ninety the Great
Aaron Wilson. He was over at NRG in the press
box looking quite dapper per usual. Excuse me on Sunday
and Aaron, good morning to you. Appreciate you taking some
time out with Gordon and out here on next up.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
Uh let's dive right into it.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
You were there with Demiko yesterday afternoon as he took
to the podium, and uh, he says nothing to see
here office line.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Just fine. I don't believe him.
Speaker 6 (24:12):
The tape doesn't say that to me or anyone else
that I trust to comment on football. What's going on
inside the building? How do they feel about this old line?
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Kenyan Green included, right, Keny.
Speaker 10 (24:26):
Green included, they are disappointed. Just it doesn't do a
lot of good to bash on their own players and
at the you know, podium as you reference, you know,
it's kind of what do you say publicly and what
do you say privately? So probably you know they're constructive,
if not just you know, a you know, yelling at guy,
it's more just trying to get the best out of
(24:46):
them and coach, which is teaching. And so you're in
coaching and teaching, you're only as good as how do you,
you know, adapt to your slowest learners. How do you
get those guys to come along to the rest of
the class. You know, So you know, there's a different
grade when it comes to a Larami Kunsul who's Pro
Bowl and high graded and twenty five million a year
(25:10):
versus a second year guy, third year guy. And what
you have there is you have a lot of inexperience
next to each other in Juice Drugs and Kenyan Green
and Kenyon is the lowest graded lineman according to analytics
and the film. And you, you know, don't have to
be a coach or a scout to be able to see,
you know, he's being beaten. He's saying, he's acknowledging his errors,
(25:31):
that he is being beat and he's not playing well.
And if they had to do something, they took him out.
He would have stayed out, but Jared Patterson gave himself
a concussion fallen into E. J. Speed's knee, So then
they decided it was better to go back to Green
than switch to Kinder Green. Will that change? I believe
(25:54):
it very much, strong possibility it will.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
But what you say.
Speaker 10 (25:58):
Publicly on a Monday be a lot different. There's gamesmanship,
there's strategy, So we'll see how they progress throughout the
week and who lines up at MetLife Stadium. But no,
I would not be surprised at all if there is
change at one position, the left guard. But yeah, I
don't see anyone else changing. So you know, your line
(26:19):
is your line, and for the most part it'll be intact,
is my expectation. So we'll see what decisions they make.
But yeah, I would have no surprise at all. And
I've heard it's the spiritual and possibility of a change,
and the change would be to Kindridgreen. So we'll see
(26:39):
if they actually carry that out. That is still developing.
Speaker 5 (26:43):
Yeah, and and sort of, I think most fans are
kind of saying, like, look, let's let's try something else there.
I thought it wasn't a ton of reps. But I
thought Patterson played pretty well there. Obviously, I assume he's
in concussion protocol and not going to play this.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
Week but right for the week.
Speaker 5 (26:56):
But when he comes back, I mean I would absolutely
plug him back in their left guard. I mean, I thought,
would you make I thought the reps he played was
pretty well. Joe Mixon scored a touchdown on it.
Speaker 6 (27:06):
Gentlemen, let me jump in here real quick before you go, Aaron,
if I could just real quick go to what you said.
The PFF grades are in. Jared Patterson graded the second
highest of the offense behind larrymy Tunzel. He came in
at eighty one point forward to Jared Patterson for the
ten snaps that he was out there, and we know,
uh mad Man Mixing got an the end zone on
(27:27):
that drive.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
I'm sorry, go ahead and are.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Right.
Speaker 10 (27:31):
Small sample size but effective. We've always said this was
Jared Patterson. Very tightly sound, gritty guy, technician and someone
that has decent length like his extension. I think he's
a better center, more of a natural center, but has
that capability. He's played all three positions in college tackle, guard,
(27:52):
and center. So some things I like about Jared. And
you know, you guys know the notre to name offensive
lineman come out very ready. That's one thing you can say.
You know, look at Blake Fisher. Blake Fisher is a
pretty you know he is he ready to plug in
and beat out Titus Howard and Larry Huntsy Yet No
he's not. But is he a polished rookie. Yeah, And
(28:12):
that's what Jared Patterson is too, And that's just their
credit to the coaching and get up there with the
fighting Irish program. Good offensive lineman and yeah, Patterson, he's
pretty sound. Kindergreen is a little bit different element. He's
a stockier, maybe more powerful athlete. They can do some
pulling and help you on some the slide protections. And
(28:34):
he has run a four eight five. He told me
it's just four eight eight on his Wikipedia four eight
five and through fifteen. They think he's enough of an
athlete obviously that he played fullback in the Patriots game.
So an interesting guard. I would say Patterson not an athletic,
but maybe good technique Kindergreen I gets you to push
(28:54):
a stock here, will build lower to the ground guy.
And the only thing with him is he was playing
great last season that one game, after struggling a little
bit in this first couple of games. But he's got it.
He wears a giant knee brace. He had the meniscus surgery,
and sometimes the need will bother him. He's not an
injury report for that, but it's kind of like a
long term durability deal. So yeah, those are things to consider,
(29:19):
but for now, he's your only other option.
Speaker 6 (29:22):
Talk with Aaron Wilson, our Texans insider here on Next
Up with Fleeting Gordon. As we get ready for a
short week first time CJ. Stroud is playing on Thursday
night Primetime. Know you go to MetLife. There's Aaron Rodgers
and as we look at the injury report, and we've
been monitoring what you have to say. I've mentioned we've
(29:43):
referenced your report yesterday or the day before one of
the two Gordon, what can you tell us Steph Diggs?
Do you think this is as bad as feared in
terms of Steph Diggs sees.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
That may be done.
Speaker 10 (29:57):
Yes, I think that it's very good. There's a lot
of concern and they're getting second opinions and they've done
the MRI. They've been very hush hush about it. And
that's not that surprising, right, given the organization and the
high profile of the player. So there are guys within
the organization, whether it might be players, et cetera, that
(30:21):
aren't privy to the exact diagnosis of Stefon Diggs, the
initial diagnosis, and you know, talking to doctors that are
outside of the organization. Yeah, I believe it's like ninety
five percent sure that it's an ACL. There's a small
chance that if he has just torn his meniscus that
if you don't get surgery, could you play again with
(30:41):
rest and rehab. Yes, but that is really a I
would say a Rosie picture. More likely is you know,
worst case, and that means season ending. Obviously, he won't
play against the Jets, as they've evidenced by it, he
couldn't have practiced this or that. He will not practice today,
and you know it's very likely we don't see him
(31:02):
for a very long time. He's a free AGENC, so
future way up in the air. But yeah, no one's
saying anything really on the record at all. And then
you obviously with Nico, Ryan's kind of a non update
update yesterday, and I asked him about Stefan that they're
still working through the testing, the results and evaluating, so
we'll see. I mean, it's a big decision. Remember Rashie Rice,
(31:24):
how that played out for a while before they finally
came to a conclusion. And I wouldn't be surprised if
this is one of those deals.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Is after this week. It sounds like Nico Collins will be.
Speaker 10 (31:38):
Back next week, right right, that's my report, And yeah,
the Nico is on track to play in the Detroit
game be activated that week, and you know it was
always forecast as a three to four week Once they
got the MRI, it was initially like, yeah, there's optimism
from him. I could come back very soon. Didn't feel
that bad. It's in the middle of the hams trains
a little higher than the you know some of these
(32:00):
ham string strains which you can play through which it
went to the bottom hamstring muscle. But it's in the
middle and he's running twenty miles per hour, so he's
already you know, probably would cut it on, I guess
to the higher speed if you know he's running away
for a touchdown. But yeah, he's he should be fine,
and that's the good news. I remember last year, I
(32:22):
mean CG. Trump pass for four thousand yards plus with
Nico Collins tank Dale. They eventually lost tank now and
they just threw to Nico and some to Dalden Salts
and other guys. But I think this will test him
as a quarterback because he's gonna have to distribute the
football as he did pretty well once Diggs went down.
But that's what he's going to get to be more of.
(32:43):
And I think it eventually could be good for the
offense to spread the ball arounds. Never going to lose
the digs. But it's you know, you look around, I
think on the street, is there a lot out there?
Not really, I mean, most skuys are viewed it's either
damaged goods or washed. You know, there's the Michael Thomas
is the hundred renfros of Jarvis Landrys. Try to trade
(33:05):
for someone you sure that he'll nick masterio, he'll be
able to explore those sort of things, look into it,
no idea if he'll you know, pull the trigger. We're
close to the trade deadline of November fifth. Deanty Johnson
is definitely available, and Tredrick Mourner is available. Are those
guys actually better than what you already have in the
building that know the place and can do it? I
(33:28):
thought you give Xavier Hutchinson more chances and that was
a great nineteen yard diving catch. Just needs more targets.
Robert woods Bill can catch the ball, still as good
at pun returns. They have guys and John Metchi the
third top passes. Nothing wrong with the tight end. I
just would say you have to be kind of spread
the ball around and then once you have Nico seed
(33:51):
Nico Now Thursday will be interesting because hang Dell be
your number one receiver out there against Sauce Gardener, and
you know, see doesn't usually travel with the receiver. He
doesn't do that till the red zone. But he just
normally lines up on the right side, So we'll see
how much they match up. How does Tank do A
big opportunity for Tank, they have to show the nation.
(34:14):
Yeah what he can do.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
But came on had his best game of the season
on Sunday as well. Yeah, a dub.
Speaker 6 (34:19):
I'm up against it, man, but you know, we'll send
the people over to you. Make sure you follow our
Texans Insider at Aaron Wilson Underscore NFL. For all of
the scuttle butt over at NRG and throughout the league,
few do it better if anyone I got Aaron Wilson,
thank you so much. Brother, will to talk to you
here in a little bit, say, travels up to New York.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Thanks all right, man, appreciate it.
Speaker 6 (34:40):
Aaron Wilson again at Aaron Wilson Underscore NFL. We'll react
to some of the things Aaron has to say, some
other comments that I'd like to make. As we put
the coach game to bed, the pro football focused grades
are out. It's a second take Tuesday, continuing to take
phone call seven one three, two two five seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
You're home in Houston Sports.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
Touchdowns Coach Stark here, you're next up.
Speaker 5 (35:04):
With Stan Northfleet from Chris Gordon on Sports Talk seven
to ninety Houston's home of Longhorn Football.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 12 (35:14):
Yeah, that's my first time playing on Thursday. So you know,
I'm leaning on you know, leadership from older guys, you know,
and they're big biggest scene is of recovery and you know,
mentally straining on the game plan. So you know, it's
it's a short week, but you know it's you know,
pime time football. Gotta be ready to play at a
high level.
Speaker 10 (35:36):
C J.
Speaker 6 (35:37):
Stroud uncharted territory. You know, I love my new benchmarks.
How we evaluate this era of Texans football when Domiico's
going up against somebody for the first time, How do
they respond in this situation? How do CJ respond in
that situation? We get another one, as Stroud says, just then,
we're going up to METLIGHTE Stadium, a place that they
have seen before. Jets currently on a five game losing street.
(36:00):
Can't imagine it's gonna be a lot of folks in
the stands. It's also Halloween night. I imagine it got
them city. There other things to do on a Thursday
Halloween night rather than go watch a bad football team,
and the Jets play against the Houston Texans.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
We will see. We will start the eleven o'clock hour there.
Speaker 6 (36:17):
I want to finish, however, the thoughts that I have
coming off of the Coats game, second take Tuesday, going back,
looking at the tape, looking at the numbers, the analytics,
all of the things. So west Side, Joe, I'll get
to you this segment as well. Gord to be thinking
about anything else you want to add for me, I
(36:37):
think we pretty much did everything that we talked about
between yesterday and the start the show today. It was
good to see tankdll getting the end zone, had three
other catches. I believe other than the touchdown catch, he's
starting to get confidence and get back in rhythm there.
Perhaps given that Steph Diggs won't play on Thursday, another
(37:00):
opportunity for Tank. I think that what else we say
Damian Pierce's kickoff return, we discussed Jalen Patriot like two,
that defensive line. I think that defensive line was excellent,
not like all time great Jonathan Taylor. Gordy still got
his pound of flesh, but I really believe in that
defensive line. As we transition into Jets convo We'll do
(37:23):
that in the eleven o'clock album. Gonna need more from
that bunch. But Will Anderson Jr. Danil Hunter, Fodokasi can't
be letting quarterbacks shrug him off. I don't think Aaron
Rodgers is capable of doing that type of thing. The
only other thing that I would say, Gordian, I'm curious
what you think about this is just because you have
been very complementary of Anthony Richardson, and we tease each
(37:43):
other going back and forth about a rich second quarter,
Anthony Richardson misses a near touchdown pass to Alec Pearce.
He should have thrown him open, continuing to lead him
towards the hash and the numbers, and he did not
misses him there. Anthony Ritzon missus Michael Pittman Jr. For
(38:04):
a potential another big play in the second quarter. Comes
back later in the second quarter, he misses Ady Mitchell
versus Stingley on a third and eight from the Indianapolis sixteen.
If the Texans are playing a dozen, maybe sixteen other
starting quarterbacks in this league, guys that are more accurate
with the past, the Texans may lose that game on
(38:26):
Sunday and they're playing a dude on Thursday that can
still be accurate with the football. That's what I saw
in closing my notebook from the coast, going to react
to that or anything else that you have up your sleeve.
Speaker 5 (38:37):
No, I mean just you know, look, you're lucky to
be here. Where you are is where I am. I
mean we can talk about, oh, d line was great
and all this again, you still you were that botch snap,
that botched pitch play to Joe Mixon. Away from that,
you're lucky. They believe that called that is that that's
brought back still other way.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (38:56):
I like that miss goes on touchdown drive, but you
just don't know. It's just this team just plays with
fire every week. And I saw I was making the
comparison to The Starlet Show with Pittsburgh, Like look at
Pittsburgh's winnings thirty seven, thirteen, thirty to fifteen, Like they
at least put the posts away.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
We're hanging off for three point wins every week.
Speaker 6 (39:15):
It's just it's frustrating at this point through eight games,
going back to my schedule predictor, the only thing that
is different is I did not have the Texans losing
at Minnesota week three. Other than that, it's paced about
like I thought. Now, just to let you know when
everybody's all crazy about the schedule and oh my god,
(39:37):
I had the Jets game Week nine as a loss
short week coming off of the Visional opponent Colts here
at NRG.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
I'm leaning Texans right now.
Speaker 6 (39:48):
Yeah, Jets and not looker Jets on a five game
losing streak now, firing people left and right.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
They talent enough to put all together Thursday nine.
Speaker 6 (39:54):
Yeah, sure, but you know, we'll talk more about the
Jets to start the eleven o'clock hour where we wrap
up to ten o'clock out. We're here west side, Joe,
close us out, brother, Good morning.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
Hey, what's up?
Speaker 10 (40:05):
Phils?
Speaker 2 (40:06):
This mill did man?
Speaker 1 (40:07):
What's up? Standard man? I ask yo, Joe? You got it?
You with us?
Speaker 8 (40:14):
Well, something that Gordy said yesterday was about, hey, what
does people have to feel about the Houston Texas? Might
I remind you, Gordy, we got a head coached when
he was over at defensive coordinator. They was thirteen to
three one season when he got the job. Then he
became like Keen and six or something. So we have
(40:34):
the Miko Ryans, and what we've noticed is our offense
is not as up to point as where the defense is.
So that's what they have to feel from the Houston Texas,
the fact.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
That we have the Miko.
Speaker 8 (40:47):
He makes great adjustments and the offense again it's not
oh world said and putting up points like this, but
they're winning games and they're finding ways to put up points.
Just going to kylel In and give you guys that
nugget and I'll hang up here to show.
Speaker 5 (41:01):
I mean that sounds like and look, we all liked them, Cooe,
but again, is he putting fear of God into people?
Speaker 6 (41:07):
Like?
Speaker 5 (41:07):
Come on, he's sixteen and ten as a head coach,
so let's let's been good. But I mean, like, is
that like, oh my God, know how we're going to
beat this team?
Speaker 1 (41:15):
Let's part there.
Speaker 6 (41:16):
Do you really believe when the Jets are preparing for
the Texans starting Monday morning, think about how this Texas
team looks.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
C J. Stroud.
Speaker 6 (41:24):
We know Digs and Nico are out, but Joe Mixon
running like that c J. Stroud, The Neil Hunt and
Will Anderson Jr. Flying around like that young guy Caitlyn
Bullock lasted are making plays in the secondary. Granted, we'll
see if it Zi's al Shi here is ready to go.
He's banged up with a knee. What I'm saying is like,
you don't think the Jets are like, damn, we gotta
(41:46):
play the Texas this week, or you think it's like, oh,
it's the Texans.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
I think they're looking at going.
Speaker 5 (41:51):
Guys, we got to get our offense straight because their
offense has been dog crap.
Speaker 1 (41:55):
And they added Davonte Adams.
Speaker 5 (41:57):
I don't know how you add Davante Adams and they
still still can't.
Speaker 6 (42:01):
All right, let's do that. Let's pause here. We'll continue
this conversation to kick off the eleven o'clock hour as
we prepare for the Jets city of Houston. I ask you,
how much confidence do you have going into MetLife Stadium
on Thursday night, given that it does not look like
they will have We know they won't have Nico and
(42:21):
it doesn't look like they're gonna have Steph Diggs. We
are awaiting official confirmation from the team. I still think
there is a way the Texans going there and win
this ball game. Now that's not my prediction. We'll have
to wait till Thursday's show for me to give my
official prediction.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
But I see a path, what do you see?
Speaker 6 (42:42):
We'll do that to start the eleven o'clock HOURU seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. The NBA
is finally back, including the Rockets, who got their second
win of the season and sitting at five hundred at
two and two last night in San Antonio, nearly caught

Speaker 2 (44:03):
Next stop?
Speaker 4 (44:04):
It's the next man up, next.
Speaker 2 (44:06):
Stop, the next step, Take the next step, next up.
Speaker 9 (44:09):
Next stop, next next up.
Speaker 2 (44:11):
This team wants to be next.
Speaker 4 (44:14):
This is Next Up with Stan Norfleeten Chris Gordy.
Speaker 2 (44:19):
Let's see what's next next.
Speaker 1 (44:21):
Next, There we go.
Speaker 6 (44:24):
Second half of the show, Final hour live from the
Sports Talk seven ninety studios, Nelton in between Uptown Park
and Riverolks the gallerya area. Appreciate everybody hanging out with us.
Pre set number one on your audio dial as we
should be appropriately labeled. You can also get us anywhere
in the world a free iHeartRadio app. If you missed
the first hour of the show, the show will be
(44:46):
up on the app shortly after the noon hour. You
can also go to Sports seven ninety dot com Gordon
where people can hear things like the interview we had
with Aaron Wilson, our Texans and NFL insider here at
seven ninety he dropped by and told us some things
that we relatively knew. Changes could be coming on the
(45:06):
offensive line and the unfortunate likelihood that Steph Diggs is
going to be out. All right, we have here on
second take Tuesday, we have pretty much put to bed
anything from the Coats game Texans six and two. Week
eight in the NFL wrapped up last night Steelers over
(45:27):
Giants twenty six eighteen there in Pittsburgh. Who was that
Russell Wilson looking more like himself, throwing some bbs leading
the team to victory. And there are the Steelers sitting
in the three spot in the AFC playoff standings right
now Texan's sitting in the two spot behind Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (45:48):
I asked the.
Speaker 6 (45:48):
Question the Tea's Gordy on the way out as we
prepare and we get ready to hear from the head
coach who took the podium yesterday. Not sure how many
of you have heard that he being asked about the
Jets and what think they will look like. Injury report
is out and it's a little what do you want
to call it predictive. They were not in the building
yesterday from an official capacity. Were the Texans back on
(46:13):
the practice field today given that it is a short week,
but they did like a probable if they were to
practice yesterday.
Speaker 1 (46:20):
What would that look like?
Speaker 6 (46:21):
So we'll give you that injury report here in just
a second, Gordy, I see a path to victory. I
guess I ask you your early thoughts on you mentioned
in the previous segment. Obviously, the Jets on a five
game losing street. They fired head coach, they fired offensive
play caller, they trade for Devonte Adams at wide receiver.
(46:43):
They have one of the best rosters in the NFL.
I ask you right now, do you feel like if
I would ask you, what is the path to victory
for the Texans on paper?
Speaker 1 (46:56):
What does that look like for you?
Speaker 5 (46:59):
Defense's got a do what the defense has have been
doing against the Jets.
Speaker 1 (47:03):
Here, Jets are on a five y losing streak.
Speaker 5 (47:05):
These are the points have scored twenty two to fifteen,
twenty seventeen, and nine. Basically, the highest point total of
the Jets have scored in a game in this five
yen losing streak is twenty two and that was this
past week, They've scored in the twenties twice. There are
two wins against New England and Tennessee, who we could
argue are two of the worst teams in the NFL.
They scored just twenty four and their season opener against
(47:27):
San Franz they scored nineteen. Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. This
offense still looks like Zach Wilson's offense from a year
ago when he was out ouch. They can't score. This
team even went as far as to add Devonte Adams
via trade. They have Garrett Wilson, who is one of
the dynamic young wide receivers in this league. They have
Allen Wizard, who can still playscot some touchdowns this year.
(47:51):
You know chemistry with Aaron Rodgers from time in Green Bay.
Of course, Devanta Adams chemistry with Aaron Rodgers and his
time at Green Bay. Brice Hall has been okay at
running back. But to me, the bottom line is this team,
this offense cannot score points. If the Texans are gonna
win this game, their defense has to play how they've
played much of this year and limit the Jets' opportunities. Now,
(48:11):
don't get it wrong, offense is still gonna have to score,
but not having Stefan Diggs nor Nico Collins is going
to hurt if you try to run it with Joe
Mixon and they are shutting you down and holding you
to less than four yards of carry and forcing you
into some third and longs, how do you manage who's
the guy? Does Dalton Schultz have a big game this week?
(48:32):
Tank Dell can't just be your only answer. It was
nice to see John Metchi get involved last week, but
you know, uh, Hutchinson like they're gonna need some of
these guys to step up, because again I think it
put this way, seventeen points ain't gonna get done. I mean,
you're gonna have to score in the twenties at least.
But I feel pretty good about the Texans defense holding
this Jets offense in check. I look, I hate to
(48:56):
he hasn't looked completely washed, but he does not look
like Aaron Rodge of years past.
Speaker 6 (49:02):
Yeah, I mean you can see father time is clearly there.
The thing that scares me is the Texans, especially on
the road in the Demico cj Era, have let young
quarterbacks and guys that aren't great give them trouble. I
think about Joe Flacco and the Cleveland Browns. You know,
like Joe Flacco in Game one gave them some problems.
(49:24):
I think about who else is in there? I mean
what that game was here, But I'm thinking about on
the road. That's where you get into your Desmond Ritters
and Zach Wilson's and all of that stuff. So the
Texans are just a different team on the road. That's
one makes me nervous. Number two, short week, first time
CJ's dealing with that in the NFL makes me nervous.
The offensive line playing like that nervous. We know no
(49:47):
Digs likely and no Nico. We know that makes me nervous.
But I do agree with your assessment. The defense is
going to have to carry them here, and they're going
to have to run the ball. Joe Mixon is gonna
have to have one of those Week one at Indianapolis
thirty carries a buck fifty and whatever thirty in whatever like,
(50:10):
it's gonna have to be mad Man Mixing doing his thing.
Do you know the Jets made history on Sunday? I
did see that somewhere. Go ahead, get the people to
state I did see. They're lost in New England. They
lost twenty five to twenty two. Going into Sunday, NFL
teams that scored twenty or more points, committed zero turnovers,
held their opponent to two hundred fifty yards or less
(50:32):
had won seven hundred and fifty six straight games until Sunday.
Speaker 5 (50:38):
That's unbelievable. No team had ever done that before. This
team just finds ways to lose. It's tough sledding. And
so you know, you know how I feel about the
National Football League. You play goodball, you play solid ball,
you don't have to play hero ball, and you wait
for the other team to do something dumb.
Speaker 1 (50:54):
And now the.
Speaker 6 (50:54):
Jets have a major issue. I'll hold on to that
as we make our way down here. Demiko Oh yesterday asked,
going up against these Jets, how you gonna do this?
Speaker 10 (51:05):
Coach?
Speaker 1 (51:05):
What does the film tell you?
Speaker 7 (51:06):
Preliminarily, they have playmakers all across the field, right, A
lot of playmakers, a lot of veteran guys who have
been successful in this league for a while. So you
look at their offense, just the receiver position with Wilson,
with Adams like they it's a tough match for us, right,
(51:27):
So we have.
Speaker 1 (51:27):
To be on our guys.
Speaker 7 (51:29):
You gotta play sticky and covers versus guys. And also
the running back position. They got two backs young Back
and Allen and also Breis Hall. Explosive players a right, explosive,
physical backs that can make plays all across in their defenses.
You know, they've been a top ten defense for a while.
Speaker 6 (51:46):
All Right, Dmiico Rians would continue, coach, You've seen Aaron
Rodgers a few times, especially in the NFC playoff picture
when you were the DC there in San Francisco. What
are you seeing in Aaron Rodgers giving your history.
Speaker 7 (51:58):
With him, I haven't spent much time going back thinking about,
you know, the forty nine days with Aaron Rodgers will
get into more of that, you know, after see where
they are right now is offense and what he's been
doing with the Jets.
Speaker 6 (52:12):
All Right, Gordy, the formula for me is simple, defense
has got to go be excellent.
Speaker 1 (52:19):
Now.
Speaker 6 (52:20):
Lassiter looked probably as good as I had seen him
as a rookie on Sunday. Yeah, there was some bumps
in the road. That's gonna happen. The Russian coverage go together.
The guys up front are going to have to make
life easier for the guys in the secondary don't know
if they'll get Jimmy Ward back or not. From an
injury report standpoint yesterday, it is anticipated, estimated betty likely
(52:49):
that Azaz would not have practice, Steph Diggs would not
have practice, Jared Patterson still in concussion protocol, Damian Pierce
would have popped up as a Jimmy Ward still dealing
with a groin. Kayln Bullock shoulder got banged up, did
return to action on Sunday, young safety, rookie safety, he would.
Speaker 1 (53:10):
Have been limited.
Speaker 6 (53:12):
Now the Colts have one, two, three, four for our
six seven guys, including most notably, there are a couple safeties,
Tony Adams and Ashton Davis. There's a defensive lineman. I
think it's Lucky Fartu. There CJ. Moseley at linebacker, Gordy
he's dealing with a neck. And Elijah Vera Tucker, one
(53:33):
of their better offensive linemen, he's got an ankle. It
is anticipated, estimated rather that those would be the folks
that would not have played. All right, you gotta run
the football. I said that this past week kind of
proved to be true. This team this year right now
(53:53):
is not about the first half of the season, Gordon,
is not about CJ. Stroud throwing the ball. This is
about Joe Mixon and run game. And if the offensive
line and I think they're gonna put Kenyon Green back
out there, they clearly are more comfortable running the ball
than they are pass blocking. Right now, run Joe, mix
it now. Not having Damian Pierce as a backup. I
don't love that, okay, but what is it? What is
(54:14):
the jet steiny that then? What what you I mean
that would make it? You're gonna have to make some throws,
some throws. I don't want to see j dropping back
thirty seven times, not against that just dea yea, I
have to.
Speaker 1 (54:26):
You're gonna have to. Now.
Speaker 6 (54:26):
You can manufacture the run, some quick things to the perimeter,
get up, I mean, you can find ways to run
the football. Do they stick with it? And that's one
of the things that I'll be looking at with Bobby.
If they bottle up the run early, do not take
the cheese and go away from it.
Speaker 1 (54:42):
It's just like a low scoring game. I agree, what
is the.
Speaker 2 (54:46):
Touchdown?
Speaker 1 (54:46):
I agree?
Speaker 6 (54:47):
The over under on this thing? Where is this at now?
As I look over here? Over under forty two and
a half. Yeah, I probably take the under on that.
The ESPN matchup predictor the Texans have a fifty one
point one percent chance. ESPN bet has the Jets as
(55:09):
a two point favorite. It opened as one point Texans.
So this thing continues to do some funky stuff. All right,
We'll talk some NBA on the other side. I already
mentioned the DraftKings.
Speaker 1 (55:21):
Read there.
Speaker 6 (55:22):
Rockets not in action tonight. They finished their second game
in San Antonio last night. Bendubo's Rockets Analyst is gonna
drop by well recap the weekend for those that didn't
get a chance to see what happened with the Rockets
over the weekend nor last night as they went into
San Antonio, and gotta do up one on nine one
o six, your home of Rockets basketball, Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (55:44):
Who's got next, here's the what's coming next, what do
we do next?
Speaker 2 (55:51):
And who's gotta take it to the next level?
Speaker 4 (55:54):
Next step back two Staton Northfleets and Chris Gordy This
next up on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (56:04):
Welcome back into Sports Talk seven nineties. Next up each weekday,
ten am to noon, staying Northfleet, me at stand Sportsman
on Social my radio partner to my left at Chris Gordon,
and we go to the phone lines. Now we get
a special guest drops by, and it's that time year again.
Rockets in action last night in San Antonio. He's editor
(56:26):
of USA Today's The Rockets Wire. He's also a part
of the logger Line podcast talking about Rockets in the NBA.
Here at seven ninety Ben Dubos representing Missouri, what's going
on being we won't talk about your football team right now.
Tough weekend, but we appreciate you coming in here after
Rockets win last night.
Speaker 3 (56:46):
Thank you and yeah, no Trupine commentary.
Speaker 10 (56:48):
That's the story of thements, all right.
Speaker 6 (56:52):
It looked like the Rockets may drop the rope and
not escape San Antonio, with a reminiscent of what happened
opening night at Toyota Center, surrendering eighteen point lead at
one point to the Haunts. Nonetheless, the Rockets hold on.
For those that did not see the game who bawled out,
why did they win?
Speaker 3 (57:13):
Yeah? Jalen Green thirty six points, nearly sixty percent shooting,
so very good game for him. And it was a
little bit of a weird game in that you look
at a team that leads by twenty or twenty two,
whatever it was, and then they went by five, and
you think, oh, they must not have executed down the stretch.
Actually that's not what happened. The way the Rockets lost
(57:36):
that lead, they were out rebounded in the second half
thirty to nineteen. Maybe there's some conditioning issues. There's also
minutes caps and guys like Terry Eathan and Steven Adams
on that second unit that can potentially help you with
rebounding a bet. But the Spurs closed it to a
two point gap with eight minutes to go, and the
Rockets outscored them from that point forward to get the win,
(57:59):
even factoring in a bizarre six point possession in the
last minute of the game, a crazy play where Chris
Paul hit a three. They ruled that Torry Ethan got
in his landing space, so he got the and one
forty throw plus the ball and up being a six
point possession, and then Wemby had a dunk as time expired.
That was meetingless except for the final score. So even
adding in those eight points in the final minutes on
(58:22):
just pure Shenanigan, the Rockets still out executed the Spurs
over the final eight minutes. In that game, Jalen Green
was the lead guy. He wasn't always scoring because most
of his points came earlier in the game. So he
took what the defense gave him and he may, Judoka
said after the game, but that was a sign of growth.
He didn't predetermine what he was going to do. Instead
that the decisive play the game after that six point possession,
(58:43):
when the Spurs had closed it to a two point game,
two defenders trail Jalen so he calmly found President Leet
for the dagger three and so it was a weird game.
The rebounding is something that's been an issue for them
when they've lost. It's what bit him against Charlotte last week.
But the fact that after blow that lead, the fact
that Jalen Green sort of calmed them down. They ran
(59:03):
their offense, got good shots. Javari Smith had a big
three as well. I do think it's a sign of growth,
and it's the type of game they closed out this
time that they probably wouldn't have last seasons.
Speaker 5 (59:14):
It is interesting, Yeah, I mean they played the Spurs
back to back and there was a little bad blood there, right, Like,
what did you make of Oh yeah, there were some
words being had and all this.
Speaker 1 (59:24):
It's interesting.
Speaker 5 (59:25):
They're going to play them a third time here real
soon and then you won't see them again but one
more time the rest of the entire season. But I
don't know, man, if it just feels like this is
one where you're better than the Spurs, you should have
won both, but I'll take the split.
Speaker 3 (59:40):
Yeah, And I think that game last night with a
big mental health win because the schedule for the next
week is going to be more difficult. You've got the MAVs,
you've got the Warriors, you've got the Knicks. Two and
two fields a little underwhelming. You probably should be three
and one, but you'll take it. If you have been
one in three going into a difficult stretch, that would
have felt really, really bad. So I think it was
big for mental health.
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
I like the fact that the Rockets responded because the
backstory to the extra curricular Jeremy Sohan, who did play
well last night, let's get in credit. But before these
two games had to shoot around on Saturday. He said, leep, Houston,
and so that got out to Rockets players. They struggled again. Yeah,
and so they struggled a lot of Saturday, and it
(01:00:21):
was night two of a road back to back, but
still it was an underwhelming night. They did almost rescue
it late, couldn't quite get there. And so they're one
and two. They feel like they should have been two
and one or three and zero. And the Rockets came
out with a with a purpose last night and they
got up, you know, twenty points in the first half.
Jalen Green was outstanding, and then when they closed the
deal late, Fred doing what a veteran does with that
(01:00:43):
dagger shot. Then he got in Sohn's face once the
clock got to zero. And so I think that's what
you want to see from Fred. Your veterans are the
enforcer types. That's why they're there. We know what Dylan does,
Fred can do it at times as well. And yeah,
it's going to be very interesting when the Spurs come
to Toyotas in our next Wednesday, the fifth. Yeah, I
think Jeremy Sohan may have a little bit of a
(01:01:03):
reception waiting for him.
Speaker 1 (01:01:05):
All right.
Speaker 6 (01:01:05):
Dad is the voice of Ben Dubo's He's a Rockets
analyst for US here at seven ninety. Also does great
work USA Today's The Rockets Wire and the logger line pod,
which you can see at Sports seven ninety and here
at Sports seven ninety dot com. I saw Steven Adams
on the floor. What do I see? Fourteen minutes from
him plus eleven coming off the bench. Steven Adams name
(01:01:28):
obviously came up last year the acquisition to trade there. How,
when he's right, we know he's coming off of what
a calf. I believe when he's right, I guess he'll
play more than fourteen minutes. What can we expect? What
have you seen from Steven Adams thus far?
Speaker 3 (01:01:45):
Yeah, he looked very good last night. Beyond the obvious
benefits of having a big guy, you're the brim that
writes a presence can help you reabound. His screens offensively
are crazy. I think he entered the game and within
thirty seconds he set this screen read up Jalen Green
like maybe he's never been freed up in his entire career,
and he went straight to the rems for an emphatic dunk.
(01:02:06):
So those guards really like playing with Stephen.
Speaker 1 (01:02:09):
For that reason.
Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
He's so big and his screens are so textbook that
he can help them get going as well. And I
do think that you know one of the storylines to
watch early in this season. Alph and Shongoon has not
been the guy he was for most of last season.
Yet there's no reason to panic. It's four games in.
But I do think that you know, they're trying to
play at a faster paid not always successful at that,
(01:02:31):
but trying to and so I think integrating someone like Shinoon,
who played more of a half court style last year,
it's a little difficult. He looks a little tentative and
decisive at times, and so I think he's eventually going
to figure it out. But in the meantime, while he's
struggled a little bit. He got into foul trouble last
night against Whimby, and that's going to happen when you're
(01:02:52):
going up against a really good big man. That having
a second guy that you can trust in the middle,
that really really helps them to Jacquesuandale, but Steven Adams
is just in a different class, So I think it
provides them a little bit of insurance when Shingoon is struggling,
which he has early in this year, sort of getting
used to a new system because by and large he
only played like I want to say, two and a
(01:03:12):
half weeks after the All Show break last year before
getting hurt, So that's all the experience he had in
this offense. They're trying to run now, so Steven prides
them some insurance. And then you know, I mentioned the
rebounding earlier. That's been the bugaboo for them. When they
have struggled this season against the Hornets and when they
almost left that game last night slip away, it's because
in the second half they've really struggled to get those
(01:03:33):
boards and they've been sort of outworked. Steven Adams doesn't
get out work.
Speaker 1 (01:03:37):
He has a machine.
Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
He has a force around the rim, and so as
he gets scaled up and can play more minutes. Last
night you mentioned it he was capped at about fourteen fifteen.
I think he can eventually get to twenty or so.
Then having another body to help you with rebounding can
sort of mitigate those concerns that you saw in the
second half of last night's game and certainly the opener
against the Hornets.
Speaker 5 (01:03:57):
Talk to everybuddy. Ben Dubo has been through four games.
Your leading scorer in every game was Jalen Green. He's
seventh in the league un scoring. Is it officially Jalen
Green season.
Speaker 3 (01:04:08):
It feels that way. I mentioned last night that it
was the way they are running the offense feels very
similar to what we saw in March. He's just picked
up right where he left off. And I know some
people over the offseason said, oh, he wasn't I go
to April. You can play out those April games. Those
were meaningless for the most part. March was the last
time they played meaningful basketball. It was Jalen Green's team,
(01:04:31):
and it feels like he picked up right where he
left off. And if anything, he might be a little
bit better on the defensive ends. But offensively, yeah, the
scoring is there, the three point shooting is there. Another
thing that I like. He's picked up his free throw attempts.
He was about four last year, which was a regression
from his second season. Now he's up to six free
throw attempts as well per game, So that tells you
that he's driving into the paint. He just looks much
(01:04:53):
more calm, and that's what we heard from me a
Udoka post game. I thought he may hit the nail
right on the head that Jalen is making what the
defense gives him. And so in terms of when to
pass when to be aggressive. I think a lot of
times in the past you would see Jalen predetermine what
he was going to do in a late game situation
in terms of if you get a score, if he's
(01:05:14):
looking for somebody else. We saw the opener in San
Antonio had some big drives to the rim last night.
The two defenders went with him when Fred set that pick,
so he kicked it to Fred up top and Fred
hit the dagger three. It's all about not predetermining what
you're going to do, and so it in general, it
just looks like a much more calm, a much more
mature Jalen Green. We saw it late last season and
(01:05:36):
it's carried over thus far to the start of this
new season.
Speaker 1 (01:05:38):
All right, Ben, quickly, we'll get you out here on
this one.
Speaker 6 (01:05:40):
No action until Thursday, where the Rockets go from San
Antonio make their way over to Dallas. Not sure if
they're coming back to Houston prior to going to Dallas, however,
the Mavericks are next up on the schedule, So we
got Texans at Jets Thursday night, Halloween evening, and then
we also have Rockets at Dallas, which I think you
(01:06:03):
would agree this is the best opponent the Rockets will
have faced thus far. It'll be their fifth game but
their third opponent, given they played the Spurs twice Saturday.
Speaker 1 (01:06:14):
And Monday Dallas.
Speaker 6 (01:06:16):
Is this a good Barama to find out what the
twenty four to twenty five Rockets are going to look like.
Speaker 3 (01:06:21):
I think so. And it's going to be an interesting
test for all for in Shangoon because Dereck Lively is
a good young big man, but he's not nearly as
long as went beats, So some of the shots near
the rim that all Pee was a little tentative and
reluctant to take against the Spurs, I don't think Lively
creates quite the same mismatch. But yeah, it's gonna be.
(01:06:41):
It's gonna be incoming upon Hngoon to step up in
a way that he hasn't so far this season, because
one thing you know about the match with Luca and
Kyrie and the shooting, they're gonna put up points. And
as good as Shalen Green is, it can't be just
Sjalen against a team that good. He's got to have help.
Rockets have a lot of good defenders who look up
and down the roster guys like a Men Thompson, Tarry
(01:07:03):
East and Jabari Smith. They don't have a lot of
top shelf scorers. When you look at who's going to
do the heavy lifting there, it's largely Jalen and Shingoon.
Jalen has lift up to the hype on his end.
He needs all pe to start, you know, providing more help.
I think Thursday against Jrek Leive would be hack of
a good place to.
Speaker 1 (01:07:19):
Start, all right. That's our guy.
Speaker 6 (01:07:21):
Ben Dubo's rockets analysts editor for USA Today's The Rockets Wire.

much for your time this morning.
Speaker 2 (01:07:40):
Thanks for having me.
Speaker 6 (01:07:41):
All right, take care, all right, let's come back on
the other side. We'll get back into this. Texans Giants
preview Rockets in Action Thursday night at American Airline Center.
They're in downtown Dallas in the Victory Park area over
METLIGHTE Stadium and joy Z. You get Texans Jets. How
do they do this? What are we feeling? Early short week,
(01:08:03):
We're all on pins and needles, waiting to hear what
we believe to be bad news. We'll see how optimistic
we are if indeed Steph Diggs does not go for
the Texans on Sunday, excuse me on Thursday. This is
Next Up, with a half an hour ago Sports Talk

Listen to Sports Talk seven ninety on any device with
our free iHeartRadio.
Speaker 12 (01:08:29):
As I believe that the Jets are gonna be very
highly motivated. You know, they got a lot of weapons
over there. One of the best quarterbacks ever to play,
you know, A big fan of his. Their defense, you know,
they're some really good corners. D line is really good,
and you know, I think C. J. And Oseley and
Quincy Williams are two underrated defenders in this league. So
(01:08:51):
I mean they are a great defense. We gotta, you know,
be able to with stand the surge early and you know,
just keep building and keep rolling.
Speaker 1 (01:09:00):
That's nephew, C. J.
Speaker 6 (01:09:01):
Stroud previewing the Texans on the road at met Light Stadium,
second year in a row. The Texans are facing the Jets.
Where the hell is Zach Wilson? Is he backing up?
Speaker 1 (01:09:13):
Who's backing up Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 6 (01:09:15):
I don't even know, but the Texans obviously didn't face
Aaron Rodgers last year.
Speaker 5 (01:09:19):
Former Texans quarterback Philip Legend tyrod Taylor oh.
Speaker 6 (01:09:25):
T two is backing up Aaron Rodgers. That's interesting. Okay,
here we go. Demico Rons knows Aaron Rodgers all too well.
Speaker 7 (01:09:34):
Now.
Speaker 6 (01:09:34):
Domico hadn't seen Aaron Rodgers since he ruptured at Achilles
last year, four plays into the twenty twenty three season.
But here we go Texans, and I really want to
open up the phone lines here seven one, three, two
point two five, seven, ninety guys. The Texans, all of
their goals are still ahead of them. The Texans are
six and two. That a number two team in the AFC.
(01:09:56):
They beating everybody they should have beaten outside of Minnesota.
I had that as a win. They were gonna lose
one of those two at Minnesota or at green Bay.
I thought it would just be the at green Bay.
Thought they'd take care of Minnesota with Sam Donald. All right,
six and two, number two seed in AFC. Gordy, I
(01:10:18):
asked you, dude, does this team feel to you like
they are on track to accomplish everything we thought they
could accomplish coming into the season.
Speaker 5 (01:10:29):
I mean, they're winning. So that's that's the that's the
hardest part, taking care of that part.
Speaker 1 (01:10:36):
It's only part of the matters. By the way, he
for CJ referenced CJ Mosley. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:10:40):
Look, and he's playing four games this year. Moses got
to name the injury report he did. I practiced yesterday.
He's got a nick deal.
Speaker 1 (01:10:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:10:49):
Still one of the better linebackers in the league off ball,
no question about that. And I think I called Quincy Williams.
I think I called Quinn Williams brother Avery Williams. It's
Quincy Williams. I believe what his name man, So I
jack that up yesterday. Sorry about that, all right? So
seven one three, two one two five, seven ninety. It's
not all doom and gloom. Are there some things over
(01:11:10):
there that piss me off?
Speaker 1 (01:11:11):
Yep?
Speaker 6 (01:11:13):
But the Texans are still positioned. We said they had
to take advantage of the softer schedule early. They've done that.
They're six and two Now. I think this Thursday night
game could be a blessing in disguise. Why do you
say that? Yeah, it's a short week. Yeah, guys hate
Thursday night games. However, you're gonna on the road to
New York. It's a terrible playing surface, so God let
(01:11:35):
us keep the team healthy. But if you're able to
get in there inc out of win, and I think
it's gonna be some ugly football by both teams, you
come out of there with a dub, you get a
mini buy ten days to prepare for a home game
versus a very good Lions team. You steal a few
days rest and you take care of the Lions on
(01:11:56):
Sunday Night football, and then you get it. I was
gonna say, you get a little bit of a risk,
and you do because you don't play the Cowboys until
Monday night the following week, so you get an extra day.
Some of you may poo poo a day of risks,
as dudes that play in the league, an extra day,
you can get a lot done, no question about that.
Speaker 5 (01:12:14):
All right, Well flip it the other way though. You
lose this one to the Jets, you're six and three.
You gotta sit around muddling in your funk for a
week of a loss, and then you come out and
play a really good Detroit team and you lose that one.
Speaker 1 (01:12:29):
You're six and four.
Speaker 5 (01:12:30):
All of a sudden, All of a sudden, you're getting
closer to the middle of the pack of the AFC,
you know what I mean, Like this thing could go.
Speaker 1 (01:12:38):
The other way.
Speaker 5 (01:12:38):
The way it's a fair observation by That's why I
feel like this is You're a better team than this Jets.
Speaker 1 (01:12:43):
Team right now, go fight a way to win this.
Speaker 5 (01:12:47):
This is one where, like I said, I've poo pooed
a little on the three point wins over the Colts
and all this, like thought you should have won by more.
This Jets team, they're not good, but you should be
able to like just like I said, I don't I'm
not gonna break you if you win a one point game, Like,
just find a way to win, get to seven and two,
(01:13:08):
and then get this time off to get ready for
the Lions. So Demiko was asked, what are the benefits
you see coach playing on Thursday night football.
Speaker 7 (01:13:17):
It's a short week, so you get to flush whatever happened,
you flush it out even quicker on the previous week.
And then the I think the best part about Thursday
is getting the extended weekend offs that'll be you know,
everybody is looking forward to a little off time, So
that'll be the best part about it.
Speaker 1 (01:13:34):
I think another area.
Speaker 6 (01:13:37):
So if you didn't hear the segment Gordon I did,
how do the Texans go into New Jersey there and win?
It's gonna have to be a heavy dose of Joe Mixon,
who when I checked this morning, Joe Mixon is still
sitting at third in the league in rush yards per game,
behind Derrick Henry and Sakwan Barkley. Joe Mixon is one
(01:13:57):
hundred yards a game. What has he got? Five touchdowns
for Joe Mixon tied for sa Kwan Barkley. So like
you're gonna have to ride Joe Mixing. Now, Damien Pierce
being on the injury report air quotes not a legitimate
injury report, we'll see that later this afternoon. We'll see.
(01:14:18):
But I like Joe Mixon being the catalyst. Then CJ.
Take your chances, right, you dot them up A little
bit for you, Tank, a little bit for you. Match,
there's Dalton Schultz cached over a little bit for you
and you. Maybe a check down to the backs, Okay,
maybe we pop us an explosive for Tank. Maybe there's
Mitch or Hutch in the middle of the field.
Speaker 10 (01:14:39):
There.
Speaker 1 (01:14:40):
Okay, cool Bobby Slock may have to.
Speaker 6 (01:14:42):
Dig in his bag, may have to pull out a
trick play here or there, but the Texans should be
able to go blow for blow with the New York Jets.
Hey defense, Danil Hunter, Will Anderson Jr. Denico artriy Hey
way do mostly corral a bad quarterback? And Anthony Richardson
Hey gonna be a guy. He's pretty much a statue
at this point. He's but forty years old or something.
(01:15:04):
Aaron Rodgers is gonna be right there behind the center.
Go get after his butt. Heat him up, Miko. There
will be opportunities to get after Aaron Rodgers. Need you
to do that. Oh and their tackle is banged up,
I'm sure with their guard Vera Tucker, Elijah Vera Tucker,
he's banged up at right guard. There's Ala Lazard, one
of their receivers banged up as well. Now can they
(01:15:26):
run the football with Breese Hall?
Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
Yep? Can Aaron Rodgers still make the throws? Yep?
Speaker 6 (01:15:32):
Is Devonte Adams still a threat on the perimeter opposite
of Garrett Wilson yep? But that defensive front is gonna
gonna have to go do that. Another thing that jumps
out to me early. This is only a one yard
game on the season, by the way, that's hard to believe.
Really good player.
Speaker 5 (01:15:48):
He's running at a three point nine yards a clip,
so he's hovering great.
Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
But he's hovering right there.
Speaker 6 (01:15:54):
So if that was four point one yards mcay, would
we feel any different like I think it was.
Speaker 1 (01:16:01):
He's good enough to get them first down.
Speaker 5 (01:16:03):
It's skewed by his one hundred yard game where he
averaged over six yards a carry.
Speaker 1 (01:16:07):
Who's that against against Buffalo ironic Clynton.
Speaker 5 (01:16:10):
But his other games, let's see against Pittsburgh average three
point two, against Minnesota average two point six. Against Denver,
he averaged less than half a yard. He had ten
carries for four yards against New England average three point four,
against San fran average three point four. So overall, I
mean they are he's not running the football well.
Speaker 6 (01:16:31):
And the Texans, now again, they're giving up yardage to
running backs every team they play the running back. Now,
why the offensive cordions don't keep giving the backs the
ball don't know, But running backs consistently put up yardage
this season versus Demko's defense. When you look at the
numbers as well as the highlights. However, there are more
than enough studs on this Texans defense. Will Anderson Junior
(01:16:54):
danil Hunter come to mind, We'll see if they can
get back aziz al Shire this week or nine. And
if you good sir, want to be treated like the
stud that you are and enhance your male performance in
the bedroom, go to get stutterrex dot com, a local, reliable,
discrete solution to your male performance needs. If you catch
my drift, a Texas based company, mind you, with a location,

They offer a compounded offerings that are available whether you're
on an empty or a full stomach. So when it's
game time you are ready to go. Maybe you need

Speaker 2 (01:18:22):
Run all the rest hod on Come three, run.
Speaker 13 (01:18:24):
Over with Northfleet and Gordion. Next up, Bellies, tremble with hunger.
Lunchtime is so close.
Speaker 2 (01:18:34):
Till then shout down on more. Next up.
Speaker 6 (01:18:41):
The second take Tuesday has come and gone. As this
is the final segment of Next Up. Matt Thomas and
rossberryal coming your way from noon to three. Gordon and
I sitting here chilling out. Texans getting back on the
practice field. I thought I had to practice schedule up somewhere.
I'll see Can I find it? Today is a Friday
for them, so we'll see. Is this Texans pr email? No,
(01:19:06):
not that one, I'll see. Can I find it in
here somewhere? Try and get you some times, but I'm
sure Matt Thomas and Ross will help you with that.
In terms of what we can expect. I think the
Texans can go up here without Steph Diggs and still
get a win. That's my expectation. Or here it is Demico.
Ryans will address the public twelve thirty this afternoon, followed
(01:19:31):
by c J. Stroud at twelve forty five. All right,
so we've been playing some Demico cuts throughout the course
of today. Haven't heard from CJ since after the game
on Sunday. I imagine Coach Ryans will give us. He'll
be asked extensively about Steph Diggs. No information, not them
on Steph Diggs right now, Gordy, if it were a
torn ACL, we would have gotten that news by now.
(01:19:54):
Me don't because in ACL you can pretty much determine that.
Having torn one, you can determine that on the field.
I think there are some second opinions involved here, which
leads me to believe is it more moniscous and cartilage
than it is ligam, which is a good news.
Speaker 5 (01:20:15):
Years ago, years ago, covid gear finally start up the
baseball season. Whatever that was in like August or something
that was weird. I was at the game Astros versus Mariners.
There were nobody in the stands there were stupid cardboard
cutouts of people. But Justin Verlander pitches well against the
(01:20:37):
Mariners that day, and we find out later after the
game that Verlander Verlanders hurt and something wrong. Well, like
a day or two later, Chaylor Rome puts out the
report that yeah, sounds like Justin Verlander's gonna need Tommy
John surgery and the season is done. We then went
several weeks of Justin Verlanders seeking second and third on
(01:21:00):
the Pigeons.
Speaker 1 (01:21:02):
Brother, you can't run from reality. Well, reality's reality. You know.
Speaker 5 (01:21:06):
If the reality is Stefan Diggs has something torn in
there and it is a season ending injury, you can
go get all the other doctor opinions you want, but
you just avoid the inevitable here.
Speaker 1 (01:21:17):
Yeah, I think there is a chance.
Speaker 6 (01:21:19):
I maintain hope that it's not in acl even though
everybody has said that that's what they fear. Without Steph
Diggs and Nico, there is still enough on this offense
to go up there and get a dub. You've heard
me say this's gonna be a healthy dose of Joe Mixon.
You've heard me say the defense has got to go
do their deal. Uh, And there will be some opportunities
(01:21:39):
to take some shots, even though they've got Sauce Gardner
and some defensive backs there.
Speaker 1 (01:21:45):
Who is that? I can't remember.
Speaker 5 (01:21:47):
The other kid, Kyshawn Boody just had to bring that
up under Henry had forty five yards against the Jet.
I mean like this is you got you got weapons
still the other corner is DJ Reid All this.
Speaker 6 (01:22:00):
The New York Jets allow one hundred and sixty one
yards allowed passing per game now.
Speaker 5 (01:22:07):
Two weeks ago George Pickens one hundred and eleven yards,
Pat Friarmuth fifty one.
Speaker 1 (01:22:11):
You know what I'm saying, there's a trend here. They
give up yards to tight ends. Oh you're saying from
the know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (01:22:16):
This week, I need Dalkon Schultz out running routes. I
don't need him staying in as an eighth blocker in
the backfield because my whole line sock with.
Speaker 6 (01:22:22):
The way this w line blocks. I don't keep Dalton
Schulte and him out running. I also want to say,
in the kicking game, Kymie Fairband has been money has
saved this team's ass more often than not, not the
same for kicker Greg zerline of the Jets has made
only sixty percent of his field goals thus far this season.
(01:22:44):
They are getting nothing out of the kicking game, where
the kicking game has been quite nice for the Houston Texans.
The only other thing I want to add again as
we button up second take Tuesday, I want to make
sure that I get this in the Pro Football focused grades.
I mentioned it when we had Aaron Wilson in our one.
Laramie Tonsel the highest graded on offense, followed by Jared Patterson,
(01:23:07):
the concussed Stefan Diggs the knee injury. There's Tank Dale
coming in at fourth. Robert Woods returns from injury. He
came in at fifth from the offense. Let's see here.
I don't know why my computer just did that. I
was trying to see. As you can imagine, Kenyan Green
wasn't rated very high from an offensive standpoint. He was
the lowest rated Texans offensive player. Excuse me, twenty nine
(01:23:32):
point four grade for Kenyon Green out of one hundred.
Juwe Scruggs the center at forty eight. Surprisingly, Joe Mixon
was a fifty one point nine Coutriano and Xavier Hutchison Defensively,
Gordon the standouts. Danil Hunter, Kamari Lassiter, Tim Settle Junior.
There's Will Anderson Junior as well as Derek Barnett. Defenders
(01:23:54):
that did not grade out so well. There's Devin White
in his first game just a few days after being signed.
De Nico Archery hadn't seen a breakout game from him.
Gordon thirty eight point four. Derek Stingley the third lowest
rated defender. There's Caleb Book at four. There's Jake Hansen
at five. For those that are in the PFL, all right,
(01:24:14):
I'm sure Maddon Ross will have more to come. Texas
get ready to go deal with the Jets on Halloween Night.
Rockets next in action. They're two and two on the year.
They'll play Luca Doncis and the Dallas Mavericks in American
Airlines Center. That will be on Thursday night as well,
kicking off from college football and the like. So stay
locked to's at Sports Talk seven ninety and stay locked
(01:24:38):
into seven ninety pre set dum one on the audio down.
Thanks to Colleg McGovern, Chris Gordon stan Fleet, We've got
who's that, Aaron Wilson and Bendu Bows drop by most
of poorly. Thank you Houston for allowing us to maintain
our status as your home for Houston sports and Joey
your lunch. God will and will do it again tomorrow,
a couple of days closer to Halloween.
Speaker 1 (01:24:59):
Y'all be well, PC
