Speaker 4 (00:23):
Sports Talk seven ninety Welcome into the studios. As Chris
Gordy and fleet get going. That means it's to the
clock and that means it's next up. Welcome in. For
those that enjoyed the Shawn Salisbury Show each and every
weekday warning sixty to the hen we get up, We
hang out with the guys. We have a good time,
learn a little bit, laugh a lot ton of enjoyment.
There are Shawn Salisbury, our resident quarterback, Brian Thelma, our
(00:46):
baseball ficionado and represent Preyview, A and M. As it
is homecoming week out at PV. That's a manual for
the next two hours. Though Gordy myself, there's Connedy McGovern
on the other side of the glass there. Appreciate his
contributions to this fine program for sure. If you're new
to the station, new to the show or returning, thank
you and welcome and stand sportsman at Chris Gordon mentioned
(01:09):
that conn of demon governor, of course, at Sports Talk
seven ninety A lot of breaking news in the NFL.
One actually both pieces directly impacting the Houston Texans, one
from an opponent, one from the Texans roster. Texans off yesterday.
Hopefully they're done licking their wounds and we get ready
to prepare for week eight. Here comes the Indianapolis Colts.
(01:34):
And what does that mean for the outlook of the AFC.
We will parse through that at the start of this
program begtrayed in the NFL again, a familiar foe, familiar
face goes to a familiar foe, an upcoming opponent. Bety,
you said, I'll get it straight here in a little
bit big night tonight over the Toyota Center. Gordon's got
(01:55):
the dunkster nine the age Town Jersey on. I'll be
in the building as my native, my Charlotte Hornets are
in town facing my Houston Rockets. So I'm in the
building the night as Rockets kick off the twenty four
to twenty five season. A lot of expectation, a lot
of money got doled out over at the TC in
this new wonderful practice facility here in the Galleria.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
This week. What do we also have.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
We don't get to the World Series until Friday, so
we're in a holding pattern there. NBA started last night,
History was made in Los Angeles and whatever else you
guys want to get to seven one three, two one
two five, seven ninety throughout the course of the program.
With that being said, here on a Wednesday, good morning
to you fellas, and I am ready for more NFL action.
(02:40):
I know that the Texans are as well, because they
got to get the taste of Green Bay out of
their mouths. With that being said, though a future opponent
of the Texans, I'm looking down at week sixteen, the
reigning two times NFL champions Twos.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Lombardis back to back there in Arrowhead.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Gord him can't say Chiefs trade four Nuke Hopkins today.
There were rumors over the course of the last forty
eight hours that perhaps they would go get Cooper Cup
from the Los Angeles RAMS Organizationally they pivot and Brent
Veach goes to get Nuke Hopkins, former Texan in his
(03:21):
on right, future Texans ring Evanna perhaps pro Football Hall
of Famer. We'll talk more about that later later later. Nonetheless,
Nuke on the yeah, other surface rich get Richer. I'm
a little bit more excited about the Texans pickup. But
for the Chiefs, Deander Hopkins and his twelfth year, he's
thirty two years old. I mean, he's fine. He's got
(03:43):
fifteen catches, one hundred and seventy three yards one touchdown
this year. I mean I've just become conditioned that the
Chiefs just plug and play anybody in there.
Speaker 7 (03:52):
They literally just take guys Juju Smith, Schuster, this guy,
that guy, just plug him in and you know, they
go in super whoever. I don't know if this makes
them like, oh, there's so much better now because they've
got you know, thirty two year old DeAndre Hopkins. It
doesn't hurt. But like to me, I've just become a
condition like Pat Mahomes is gonna He's gonna do Pat
(04:14):
Mahomes things with whoever's on his roster.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
I think Newt Hopkins is still a viable option, especially
when you start getting in playoff time, crucial moments, Like
he's at that point in his career where you don't
need him to be stellar every single week. He may
not have that in him anymore, but you're gonna need
stretches where you gotta have a first down or you
gotta get into the red zone or get into the
(04:39):
end zone. And I still think he can most certainly
get that done. Last year, what ad Nuke do? He
had one thy fifty seven yards last year, seven receiving touchdowns,
and that's playing with Levis and Malik Willis in Tennessee,
knowing that Malike Willis isn't there anymore. So I look
at that as Yes, the rich get richer. This was
(05:01):
a prudent move. It cost them a fourth round pick,
which can turn into a conditional third peanuts. Uh, somebody
brought up this is just a round worse than what
Nuke was traded for going to Arizona.
Speaker 7 (05:15):
So four years later, this is what David Johnson that trade.
Thank god, legendary running back. The other thing is, though,
I mean, like this doesn't make them more explosive. It
doesn't make them like, you know, like he's gonna just
take the top off the defense because he's not that guy.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
But you could still be a great receiver and not
take the top off. I'm just ra she Rice can
go blow down the see that's a mistake. Kansas City
can do what Bobby Sloan and the Texans can't do. Apparently,
Kansas City can beat you a multitude of different ways.
So what they may say is, look, we've got who's
that I get them confused? Is that Xavier Worthy? Ady Mitchell,
(05:52):
which one of the taut Worthy? They got Worthy, We
got the guy that take the top off. If that's
what we want to do, We're going to pivot our
offense some what and we're going to get nuke acclimated
into what we do in call plays that accent what
he does. It's the same thing they did with Juju
Smith Schuster. We've seen them do it with others. So
like Kansas City to meet. They're still number one in
(06:15):
the league, top of the mountain, not just because they're undefeated,
but they recognized they had to pivot given that they
just lost Forshi Rice for the season. So when you
look at their skill position, I'm looking at the thirty
third teams posts right now, Mahomes, Kareem Hunt in the backfield, Hopkins,
Xavier Worthy, Juju, Mikole Hartman, Justin Watson, and Travis Kelsey
(06:36):
with Patrick Mahomes at the helm, that's plenty.
Speaker 7 (06:39):
And they and the weird thing is what's their strength
this year.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
It's defense.
Speaker 7 (06:44):
Secret defense is what's been carrying the Chiefs so far.
Mahomes I got him in fantasy. I know he ain't
doing much anything you doesn't have to. Their defense has
been playing lights out secretly.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
That defense has been a big part of the reason
they've won these last two Super Bowls. If you go
look at the metrics and you go look at how
guys are playing, Carl Loftus and some of those other
guys in there, like Rick John. When you look at
Gabe when he was in back there for them, I
think he still is. He was banged up at one point.
So you go look at this. When you go look
(07:16):
at what they've done over the previous two Super Bowls,
They've had guys in there. Who's a Missouri kid. I
like Nick Bolton. Bolton is a player that we just
don't talk about. So they got dudes, all right. So
that's that point. Justin Reid too, Reunion looks Goolmer Texan studs,
all right. So that's oh and then we got to
ask this, so what the hell is going on in
the AFC and receivers. You've got Davante Adams coming to
(07:40):
the Jets. Of course, we just talked about Nuke. I'm
missing oh Amari Cooper leaves the Cleveland Browns Coop landed
in Buffalo to try and replace air quotes Steph Diggs.
There is an arms race in the AFC, and you
would think, given the Texans five headed monster, that they
would be towards the front of this arms race. Yet
(08:04):
coming off that Green Bay game, we got an offense
that can't adjust in the second half, an offense that
can't get on the same page in terms of how
you want to end the game, and they act like
they can't get a first down damn near without Nico
Collins on the field. So Nico's going for at least
another two weeks and we'll figure it out from there.
Speaker 7 (08:23):
You know, it's wild. I'm looking at this is the
AFC receivers. Jamar Chase leads the leads AFC receiving and
Nico Collins is still second in yardage we've seen him
in a couple of weeks yardage or yards per yards overall.
Brian Thomas Junior is actually third so to LSU guys
in the top three. But but yeah, that's that's wild.
That Nico put up like he played in five games,
(08:46):
Brian Thomas playing seven, He's got two more games on him,
and Nico still is ahead of everybody else in yardage.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
So the thing I start to look at myself and
the NFL trade deadline is November the fifth. Believe that's
three pm local time. Uh, there's an article up on
ESPN dot com about some you know, potential trades, and
there's an article in Athletic that actually says it was
a few days ago. Now, I believe the Texans should
(09:15):
be sellers at the trade deadline, but give given excuse me,
their surplus of wide receivers. I thought that was interesting.
The Texans should absolutely not be trading off wide receivers.
They need everybody that they can get. But like John Mechi,
would you trade him? I mean, he's not doing anything
for you at.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
The end of the day. Would you rap? If something?
Speaker 4 (09:38):
I don't even like to say it because you start
getting into if something happens too. If Robert Woods, who's
been dealing with a foot now I think he's been
inactive the last two games, I know he was inactive.
Speaker 7 (09:50):
That's the Djbamy said they should dumb tray to a contender,
you know, because he's not really doing anything here. Robie's
policy like I'm yeah, somebody goes down, like I can
Rob Woods can still play a little bit.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
I can't. I can't deal him here.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
It is ESPN dot Com adding, subtracting, or sitting it
out at the trade deadline. They say Houston should subtract,
but boom, assuming a Nico Collins can return, Robert Woods
can help another team his million and a half dollars
salary guarantee in twenty twenty four, another team will take
(10:25):
that over. Da da da. You know they traded cam
Akers are ready to Minnesota. It reminds me Nicko Cereo's
phone line is still open. Does he add offensive line reinforcements?
That's also according Then here you go with Mechi not
getting any burn. There a player they should target, which
is a good seguey to the previous to the next segment.
(10:47):
Which player should the Texans target? Bengals lionbacker Jermaine Pratt.
The Texans defense has been hiding a lot of wards
with the strength of his pass rush, namely coverage over
middle of the field. I ain't Pratt as a solid
veteran on an inexpensive deal if the Bengals start trading
assets as they punt on the season. Jermaine Pratt is
(11:08):
worth a call for the Texans. He paired nicely as
a thumper beside disease as Shia. The Texans might have
seen dh djb enemy's report post his opinion, but they
decided to go in a different direction. We'll tell you
more about that on the other side. Sports Talk seven Nighty.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Next Up continues.
Speaker 6 (11:31):
On your following Listen to Sports Talk seven ninety on
any device with our free iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 8 (11:41):
I'm done with the game. You just have to come
in here and ask all the questions. I'm done with
it and I've moved on. Just give you guys after
you guys have watched the film and got all the criticism,
bring it on, but it's good. I'm on to the
All I'm thinking about is the coach and.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
A beato Demiko Ryan's addressing the media on Monday. Everybody
over there had the day off yesterday. Know, the coaches
when the work, players, getting their body right, all of
that type of stuff, but they didn't have to deal
with us. That won't be the case today, as we
will hear from CJ. Stroud as well as Demico Rans
(12:15):
this afternoon. I don't have the exact times up, but
I presume they'll hit the practice field sometime during the
lunch hours, if you will. Stan Fleet Gordon here on
a Wednesday. Rockets in action tonight and for now though,
we stay focused on the National Football League as the
breaking news that we woke up to is that DeAndre Hopkins,
former Texan, has been traded from the Tennessee Titans to
(12:40):
the Kansas City Chiefs. I remind you that the Texans
play up at Arrowhead Stadium in week sixteen, that's December
twenty first, on the break, we are getting close to
a lot of movement, a lot of players moving around.
NFL trade deadline approaches November fifth, and so teams are
trying to get theirs in order as that Herd threshold approaches.
(13:05):
The Texans, however, are doing their due diligence normal waiver
wire stuff, and there was something that caught our attention
if you follow the Texans transactions. We got the official
notification this morning. Someone that Gordy is very familiar with,
and if you're a football fan, you've seen this gentleman
rocking nodded the forty five. I believe they're in Tampa.
(13:28):
Devin White, former first round out of Louisiana State University,
made his name and a pro bowler. Two they're in Tampa.
One of them a Super Bowl with Brady was then
traded to Philly, did not play a single snap in Philly,
and now has been signed as a linebacker to the
Houston Texans. Gordon, given that he is a by YOUU Bengal,
(13:52):
I think this is interesting because he's been on the
open market for about a week, so no one last
week to bring him in.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
I'm curious about that.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
And then number two I go, Okay, Demico just got
through bragging on Nevill Hewett and Jake Hansen backing up
ziz al Shire and Henry told told who didn't play
at Green Bay. So what does this Devin White edition mean?
He just left somewhere because he was a little upset
that he wasn't getting minutes. Demiko's bragging on his backups
(14:25):
when the starters are going to return.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
How do you think this unfolds? What comes to mind
for you?
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Going?
Speaker 7 (14:30):
I just wonder what you know?
Speaker 9 (14:33):
It?
Speaker 7 (14:33):
Is this a sign that maybe Christian Harris is you
know that really far off from coming back. I don't
know it's but to me, it's adding depth never hurts.
And to get a guy this caliber, this talent for nothing,
I mean it's to me that that's that's awesome, And
(14:53):
you know it's crazy. It's running through the stats. You
look at what he did even last year in Tampa,
played in fourteen games, had a career high in interception
said two also had a career high and passes the
defense with six So you know, it's not like he
was having this big drop off. Now, for whatever reason,
I don't know, teams decide they don't want to pay
a guy that they draft or you know, give him
(15:16):
a big fat deal. He was looking for a big
fat deal, So Tampa lets him go and he ends
up going to Philly on a one year deal. And
I was kind of shocked when that happened. I thought
somebody out there was going to at least give him,
you know, a multi year deal. Say, this is a
really good talent to pick up, and talking with some
folks in Philly, you know, they're basically saying, and let
(15:37):
me share this with with you guys. Because asked one
of the guys up at Philly, I said, what exactly
happened with Devin White? He said, he said, real talk
just wasn't better than Nakobe deanerzact Bond. The Eagles don't
platoon linebackers, and he wanted to play. He struggled with
the Bucks partly because you were like too much on
his athleticism and put himself too frequently out of position
(15:57):
on place. He was going to need to refine that
part of himself. He needed to apply himself within the system.
It should be notable that he didn't distance himself in
a Vic Fangio system that has been using Nacobe Dean
in plenty of simulated blitzes, the very thing he was
so good at while at LSU.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Fangio knows what he's doing.
Speaker 7 (16:14):
But even though White wasn't better than Dean, that doesn't
mean he's not better than what the Texans would have
had otherwise with their injuries at the position. Will be
interested to see how he applies himself and refines his
game under Demiko Ryans.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
I push back on that, and I respect the person
that sent you that. I know who that was. Actually
we're effering and getting them on the show. I've I've
lived long enough to know certain players, certain systems, certain coaches,
and players don't jail. Certain cities and players don't jail.
I don't believe that Nakobe Dean. I understand he played
(16:47):
at Georgia. I liked the player. It was said that
he failed as far as he did in the draft,
how he dealt with that pictorial injury. Nonetheless, I do
not believe Nakobe Dean. And who's the other linebacker, Zach Bond?
Speaker 1 (17:02):
I don't before.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Yeah, he came to Saints. I don't believe either of
those two. And Bond's a player, But I don't think
they're better than Devin White. Now do they fit the
system better? Does Fangio like those guys better? Are they
hungrier because they haven't achieved many of the things that
Devin White has achieved? Perhaps don't know I was sit
throwing them the rate though.
Speaker 7 (17:22):
Nikobe Deane's just coming off a career eleven tackle game
against the Giants where at two sacks, I mean he's
he's had a really nice.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
Lin Yeah, listen, I like the player.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
I repeat, Devin White in twenty twenty two had one
hundred and twenty four tackles. The year before oh and
started all seventeen games twenty twenty one a Pro Bowl season,
Devin White played and started in all seventeen games one
hundred and twenty eight tackles. The year before that, Devin
White in twenty twenty one hundred and forty tackles.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
The man didn't forget how to play football.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
And hell, even his last year in Tampa, in thirteen starts,
he had eighty three. You don't go in the National
Football League at twenty six years of age.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
From forty three tackles and.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
Thirteen games started to now you're just on the street
and you can't play football anymore. So I don't know
what's going on here. Is he secretly injured and his
agent is doing a good job of suppressing, But the
football people in the league know what's going on with
the injuries.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Is it something off the field?
Speaker 4 (18:26):
I don't know, but I know from a football standpoint,
thine eyes tell me that that's a bunch.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Of horse bleed. Well, he went on to say.
Speaker 7 (18:33):
He said he might have been able to do so
like rEFInd his game and all this with the Eagles,
but with the one year deal in a backup role,
he likely would have never had an opportunity to show
on the field how much he's improved before the next
fur agency cycle. He's matured. His attitude isn't an issue,
he said. There was a little bit of a bruise
dego in Tampa, yes, but he was very professional from
the minute he walked in in Philly. Yep, they mutually
(18:55):
parted ways, and I think that's the only time I
really believe that that that verbage is true. Nick Casseara
isn't going to sign a head case to script the
vibes of a playoff contender.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
I am reading an article on CBS dot com written
by Jeff Kerr. The title of the article is Eagles
Devin White handling inactive status with professionalism and any details
how his buccaneer's departure unfolded. And one of the things
they keep saying here consummate professional Devin White. It was
(19:24):
very frustrating, but it ain't the end of the world,
he said, being a healthy scratch for Philadelphia. You know,
when I look I turn on the tape, I see
a lot of good things about myself. I'm pretty sure
the Eagles do too. So you just keep working, you know,
you get better at the next thing. You just keep going.
(19:44):
And he says, leaving Tampa, I don't think I handled
it the best. You know, it was a lot going
on that we didn't expect going on, just as far
as you know, starting off asking for a trade that
wasn't like me.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
But I did it.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
You know, I had to it, went to work, go
to training camp, bla bla. You can go read that
for yourself. Point being is this is not a dude
that's a team cancer. This is a dude that's a
really good football player that is long in the tooth
A little bit. Why I shouldn't say that, I don't
mean that. Here's a guy that wore out his welcome
in Tampa because he wanted his money. Demko and Cassarrio
(20:20):
obviously aren't giving him a contract coming in here. So
all I really care about for the sake of what
we do, gord It Demko is a former linebacker. Yeah,
they just spent money on a ziz al Shire. They
drafted Henry Told Told last year and has started him
last year a handful of games and started him this year.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Granted in Christian Harris' absence.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
We know how they feel about Christian haras Oh and
then Neville Hewett, a guy that they resigned and liked
as well as Jake Hanson who was here last year.
Both of them just went and played really good football
on Sunday. So my question is this, I don't know,
And my first thought is are they bringing Devin White
here for ynebacker depth?
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Why would Demko do that?
Speaker 4 (21:02):
You gotta believe he's gonna tell Demko, don't sign me,
bro if you're not going to play me. Well, and
that's the thing, I mean, the whole gripe is it
didn't work on Philly because he wanted to. He wanted to,
like He's like, in order for me to play and contribute,
I got to be a starter. And he goes like, well,
we don't rotate back backers, and these guys are ahead
of you.
Speaker 7 (21:20):
So it's kind of like.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
You so connected? Does that mean? I think?
Speaker 7 (21:27):
And he's a true middle linebacker, so I don't think
he'll I mean, can he play some weeks side over
Jake Hansen. We'll see, But like I think he's coming
in to take Neville Hewitt's job. If I'm Demico, you
know what I do today? We start practice today for
Colt sweet. I put both of them a mixer, you know,
a teen B team. Y'all both play middle linebacker. May
the best man win. You gotta be careful with that
because you chip away at the fabric. Neville has been
(21:49):
here for two years chopping wood and carrying water.
Speaker 4 (21:51):
But you have to let Neville. He's been playing, he's
been the backup Mike. You gotta let him go out
there and like let Devin come take the job. You
can't just give the job. But that's I'm saying, let
them earn it. But I'm saying, what may the best
man win? And I think a life comes in plays
his ass off or practice as hard as hell these
next three days. I go, hey, maybe you know we'll
(22:12):
play both of you this weekend. All right, we'll continue
talking about this in the next segment as well. If
you have questions on its on calls comments you want
to make, I should say seven one three two two
five seven ninety Gordy. But if folks headed over to
the TC tonight, that reminds me of somebody you and
I both knowing like.
Speaker 7 (22:29):

of their bleep and be ready to roll. Gordy, the Colts,
(25:01):
you have been coming into this season. You looked at
the roster and you thought the Colts, from a division standpoint,
would be the most formidable folk. I lead more Jacksonville.
Clearly I was wrong. You were right in this capacity
that here the Colts are with a chance to tie
for the lead in the AFC if they can win
(25:21):
this thing on Sunday. The Colts are banged up as
the Texans are. Excuse me, but they are getting some
guys back. Before Est Buckner's scheduled to return, He's been
on the IR and Jonathan.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
Taylor is returning as well.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
So yesterday was what Texans at six and a half Gordon,
I have not looked at what it was today. But
as we start to unpack and do a soft observation
of this game, and here'll come the Colts and we
know five and a half, So it's down to five
and a half from yesterday.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Though.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
The Colts make you nervous given the last time we
out of Houston Texans played football and where they are
from an injury standpoint.
Speaker 7 (26:04):
We'll get the initial injury report today. Yeah they should.
It's a divisional game. Even in years where you're awesome,
divisional games are tough.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
It's just because you know this team.
Speaker 7 (26:14):
The teams know each other so well, you see each
other every year, and rosters will had new pieces, but
it still is the core of the same guys you
played last year. Remember said all the talk in the offseason,
there was tresh talk going between Colts defensive players and c. J.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
Stroud and all those day speed and uh, who's the
other lineback? Is I here? Frank? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (26:34):
So, and and those two guys are awesome, they're having
great years. You know, leaout two looks. Latto's having U.
He's okay, he's got two sacks so far in the year.
There their first round pick. But you know this is
one where their strength so far this season has been defense.
God knows, Anthony Richardson had been very good, but you
(26:55):
know they put out Joe Flacco for a couple of games.
He went to and one as a starter. It should
have beach Acksonville. Really, they honestly should be on a
five game win streak right now, the Colts. But yeah,
they're playing. They're playing I don't want to say they're
playing good football, but they're fighting ways to get it done.
And that's what their message is probably this week is
go fight a way to get it done. Look at
what the Texans just did. They just crop the bed.
(27:15):
That offense is a mess right now. They couldn't do
anything up at Green Bay. Let's wreak havoc.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
Good Lord, Anthony Richardson just got back into saddle after
missing games with a hip. He gets back in the
saddle against a bad Dolphins team. The Dolphins are two
and four and Anthony Richardson has fourteen rushing attempts for
fifty six yards, averaging four yards of carry.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
Wow on Earth, are they running him that.
Speaker 7 (27:39):
Much because he was ted of twenty four passing for
forty one percent completion percentage. You can't he can't throw
the ball out on the field. So he's relying on
his athleticism. So what they said about Devin White, it's like,
you know, okay, one really fitting the scheme. Well, just
let your athleticism go, show what you can do as
an athlete.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Colts surprisingly four and three on the season, and I
haven't begun my deep dive on the Colts.
Speaker 7 (28:02):
And look at the three losses they lost by two
Week one of the Texans, they lost by six on
the road at Green Bay, and they lost by three
on the road to Jacksonville. They're that close to being
an undefeated team with all the crop they've had, Jonathan
Taylor injured in and out of the lineup, Andy Richardson injured,
Joe Flacco stepping, I mean, like all that mess, and
(28:23):
this team is that close to being seven to zero.
Speaker 4 (28:26):
As you said, they lose to Jacksonville on the road
by three.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
I want to say they watched that. They blew that game.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
They lost at Green Bay Week two by six, and
then of course they sixteen by two. So when I
look at the last time we saw the Colts, Joe
Mixon went crazy, Nico had a nice day as well,
Steph Diggs two touchdowns, So like that to me was
the best version of the Texans yet and steel the
(28:56):
Texans won by two points. So now we found forward
and go this is now the second time this season,
and it makes me wonder where the Texans are. Obviously,
no Nico, no, let's let's like do a reasonable Kamar
Lasto is not gonna play. We know because of suspension
that Mario Edwards Junior is not gonna play. We know
(29:18):
Christian Harris is not gonna play. Possible, Jimmy Ward possible,
Henry Totold possible as E's al Shire. But then now
you go look at the Devin White signing and you go,
does that mean one or both of these linebackers isn't
gonna be ready to go?
Speaker 1 (29:34):
Don't know.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
Again, later this afternoon we'll get the injury report the Coats.
To me, I don't want to say we're gonna learn
a lot about Demko and the Texans on this one,
because we've kind of seen them in this position before
and the Texans don't have a history on the Demico
runs of having like two three losses in a row,
(29:58):
certainly three.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
Maybe did lose a back to back last year. I'm
going off top of my head.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
So I'm not really worried about this thing in Green
Bay on Sunday turning into an avalanche. But it does
make me wonder, like I don't want one loss to
become too So can they get some of this offensive
line stuff buttoned up? Demiko essentially said, come hill of
high water, Gordon, we gotta get this offensive line done.
I brought it up just because we hadn't talked about
(30:25):
it in a while. Do we see Titus go to
left guard? Kenyon Green you come off the field for
a little while, Blake Fisher you're up at right tackle
like they've got to do something there.
Speaker 1 (30:35):
I'm not worried about the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
There are plenty enough weapons here schematically, organizationally, game management.
Can a week's worth of practice get this team back
to looking like they looked? What's that week six at
New England? If you were a better man. As we
go to break Gordon, do you think this team looks
more like the last time they saw Cults when they
(31:00):
were functioning essentially on all cylinders or do you think
this team looks like a Ris version cylinders.
Speaker 7 (31:07):
The defense was kind of sloppy that game. They gave
up a lot of big detail affair.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
I'm saying offensively mixing was going like offensive league.
Speaker 7 (31:17):
But you're missing Nico still. I mean, we'll see what
we'll see what that looks like. But and it's a
home game, but this you know, Anthony Richardson has played
nine NFL games. You could argue two of his best
performances be against Houston Texas.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
Yeah, i'm him.
Speaker 7 (31:30):
Has he finished well? The first one he didn't finish,
but he still beat your ass. He did enough damage
in the first quarter to win that game. You were
down fourteen. He looked good and then he looked you know.
It was that up and down game week one. But
the big deep plays is what you know nearly got
them the upset.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
We'll talk more about the NFL as we get into
the eleven o'clock hour. When NBA had the spotlight last night.
We'll be joined also to kick off the eleven o'clock hour.
Our Rockets insider analysts as well won Ben Dubos of
US say today's locked on Rockets. He also has the
Logger Line podcast, which you can hear here on seven
(32:07):
ninety and see it on Sports seven ninety dot com.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
All right, home of.
Speaker 4 (32:11):
The Houston Rockets Sports Talk seven ninety, the legendary KB
and Me.
Speaker 6 (32:16):
Next Up continues now.
Speaker 9 (32:18):
So I'm a new listener at already a huge tran
new listener.
Speaker 6 (32:21):
I love the show with Stan Nor plates at Chris
Gordy on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
All right, let's wrap up our one here on a Wednesday,
Sports Talk seven ninety. Name of the show was Next Up.
Appreciate everybody hanging out with us for a little bit.
We'll check off the second hour or yeah, second hour
and second half with Bendu Bo's we'll talk some Rockets
NBA inaction. Last night you had two games, one in
(32:48):
the Eastern Conference the ranting champion Boston Celtics, and the
Lake Show was on late last night. I was out
at a meeting and they had the Lakers Timberwolves game
on in the background. I couldn't really see what was
going on, but we did have history as Lebron and
Brownie James become the first father son duo to take
the floor of an NBA game. We have seen it
(33:11):
in other sports. I just had not seen it in
the NBA. So I'll talk about that some more here
in just a second. But YO, real talk the Texans.
If you didn't hear how we started the show, The
Texans have signed linebacker Devin White, formerly a first round
pick out of LSU, won the Super Bowl Pro Bowls
in Tampa. Tampa didn't want to pay him, They kept
(33:35):
Levontae David and put their money elsewhere, and so he
gets traded to Philly. Does a play snap for Philly,
And apparently Philly doesn't rotate linebackers. They like what they
have in Ni, Kobe Dean, and Zach Bond and so
that's what they got going on. So Nico, excuse me.
(33:56):
So Devin White was a healthy scratch every game this season,
he gets released last week, nobody picks him up this week,
and in the Texans, after bragging on their reserve linebackers,
they sign him. So if he was uncomfortable and unhappy
being on the bench in Philly, why with Demiko Rians,
a former NFL linebacker ironically of the Philadelphia Eagles at
(34:19):
the end of his career as well, why the hell
with he agreed to come to Houston why did no
other team pick him up last week? And the plot
thickens because I reached out to a former colleague of mine.
He's a good friend of mine. You might remember him.
Hugh Douglas was a badass for the Philadelphia Eagles in
(34:40):
his own right. Hugh Douglas and I did some radio
in Atlanta together. Hugh Douglas. We've been texting throughout the
course of the show, and Hugh Douglas says, I was like, yo,
what's up with Devin White. Douglas is like, man, I
don't know. He just didn't play, he said as weed.
(35:00):
And by the way, Hugh Douglas also works and does
radio for WIP, the Eagles flagship in Philadelphia. So like
a former Eagle doing Eagles radio somebody that I know
in trust, I'm like, what's going on?
Speaker 1 (35:12):
He says. Then I don't know what happened. Man.
Speaker 4 (35:14):
We never got an explanation why they released him. I
was like, I hear they like Nikobe Dean and Zach
Bond Moore. Then this is where the plot thickens. He says, yeah,
but it's weird. Devin White got all the reps in
trading camp. I was like, what Devin did. He said, yeah, man.
(35:35):
They sat him down and coaches decision dnpede him right
before the season started and he hadn't played since. This
is wild Gordy. I know he's just walking in here.
You gotta hear this. I told you I was texting
Hugh Douglas. Hugh Douglas so same everything we talked about. Yo,
I hear the Eagles like Zach Bond and Nakobe Dean Moore. Yeah,
(35:57):
what's going on? Hugh Douglas, who does radio for WIP,
I know you know that in Philly, he says, Man,
we never got an explanation. All I know is Devin
got all the reps in training camp and I said
what Devin?
Speaker 1 (36:12):
He said, yeah, man.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
They sat down Devin White right before the season started
and dmped him the rest of the year. Something's going on, man,
which good news for the Texans. Maybe Caserio Win is
tall one, a twenty six year old former pro bowler
who had eighty three tackles in thirteen starts last year
(36:34):
and previously had one hundred tackles plus three seasons in
a row. Oh, by the way, he's a Super Bowl champion.
Former teammates of Shaq Mason in Tampa. I do believe.
And now he's available on the street and Casario gets
him for pennies on the dollar.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
I gord it.
Speaker 4 (36:50):
This confirms my suspicion Devin White can still play.
Speaker 9 (36:53):
Now.
Speaker 4 (36:54):
I don't know what the hell is going on in Philly. Well,
let's say this is weird. So Zach Bond is more.
Speaker 7 (36:59):
He's more an outside backer anyway, so he was gonna
and he's on a one year deal. But the only
thing I could see is Nakobe Dean, who's more that
true mittal linebacker he was. He fell in the third round.
Remember that twenty twenty two draft, he was being talked
about it as a back into the first rounder. I
thought he was all he had.
Speaker 4 (37:15):
A peck injury, and some teams felt he tried to
disclose it and should have guy celebrate that because.
Speaker 7 (37:19):
It's like, who freaking if the injury's fine and he okay,
he may not be ready day one, but like once
he heels is, he gonna be an awesome player for
the next five years. Heam's have their places and okay,
and he fell to them in the thirdies and he's
been awesome.
Speaker 4 (37:32):
So he was injured even to start this year. Start
to hear it, start his career in Philly, but he's
playing now. He's their middle line.
Speaker 7 (37:38):
But that almost feels like that's a GM decision of Yeah,
we signed Devin White because you know, for depth, but
like Kobe, Dan went healthy, he's the starter and like
uh Brooks Cabina told us like it's they don't rotate
and felt it like Philly their mo is like, if
you're a start linebacker' a star linebacker and we don't rotate,
I think that's weird.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
Number one.
Speaker 7 (37:59):
I know.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
But Vic Fangio, you know sometime our elder statesmen and
older folks, it can be a little set in their
ways come out of the game. What do you mean
even to you, I got there. Yeah, it's weird. I
was a part of a linebacker court one time. Granted
it wasn't on Sunday, but it just made me think
about that. At the top of your helmet for a
sun get back out there. Our grow comes from the
New York Jets. He tells us, guys, you're gonna be
(38:23):
treated like in the league. Everything we do is gonna
be the same thing that we did in New England
when I was with Parcels, with the Jets, with the Giants, like,
everything we do here is gonna be what we would
have done there.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
Fine.
Speaker 4 (38:35):
So like I remember one time our two linebackers we
ran a three four Gordy. They played like nine hundred
and seventy three snaps in college.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
Is crazy. And the backups, which.
Speaker 4 (38:47):
I was one of them on defense, we had like
fifty steps combined.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
It was crazy.
Speaker 4 (38:52):
But it's just an NFL mindset. For some of the
older NFL minds, it's just weird. So Hugh Douglas, that's
what he has to say. Again, he's on the air
in Philly, a former Eagles defender. I think he went
into the Eagles Hall of Fame as well, so he
doesn't know what happened, and he's like, yo, Devin got
all the snaps during training camp. Maybe Casario stole one.
(39:12):
I hope he did all right. Going to NBA tonight
over at Toyota Center. But last night ring ceremony in
Boston as the Celtics defeat the Knicks one thirty two
one nine, we had Jason Tatum went berserko, he went
sicko mode. As Travis Scott would say, Jason Tatum. Let
(39:33):
me look at the stat line here, thirty seven points,
ten assists. What else did they have? They had twenty
four point by Derrick White, twenty three points by Jaylen Brown, Oh,
Karl Anthony Towns. We were excited about how cat would
work the big Cat in Madison Square Garden four Knickson
double figures led by Jalen brun since twenty two. In defeat,
(39:56):
they get smacked one thirty two one nine. In Boston
the other game, The Lake Show last night, Lebron and
Bronnie shared the floor.
Speaker 1 (40:06):
It's a magical moment.
Speaker 4 (40:07):
Ken Griffy Junior and Ken Griffy Senior take pictures with
Bronnie and Lebron before the game. It's a beautiful moment.
Lakers win one ten to one oh three. I have
not seen the stats from this one. Let's try and
get that up real quick before we go to break
for Timberwolves. Wear in town Anthony Davis thirty six, sixteen
four assists, three blocks for the big man, Lebron.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
What you got going on?
Speaker 4 (40:31):
Bron had sixteen five and four in thirty five minutes action.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
Bronnie stats, Bronnie James stats.
Speaker 4 (40:41):
Three minutes of action three minutes zero points minus.
Speaker 7 (40:45):
Five and the plus my stats aside show. I saw
everybody posting them on tweets about a historic moment in
the NBA is control.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
It's mom Ken Griffy Junior played with his dad.
Speaker 7 (40:59):
That was earned. He was earned because he was awesome.
Speaker 1 (41:03):
Brody.
Speaker 7 (41:04):
I'm sorry, bro Like. I hope you become something eventually,
but that's contrive.
Speaker 4 (41:10):
Oh he got up too shot. Historic moment, All right, brother,
come back out, come back out. He was over for two.

Does a great job on USA Today's The Rockets Wire,

which I follow on social. He also contributed to the
logger Line podcast as well. If you would come, okay
now mine, I can do it on my end. We're
welcome in. Ben Dubo's on the guest line. Ben that
time a year again I'm happy to hell. I'm over
at the TC tonight. The awful Charlotte Hornets are in town.
No Mark Williams playing for them. Who knows what we
(44:19):
did for LaMelo ball. But I'm mostly excited about another
season of Rockets basketball, a top six seed. I can
feel it, and I'm calling it to the God right now,
good morning.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
Yeah, it's possible. And I think, especially after the contract
extensions the other day for Jalen Green and all for
in Shangoon, well, if the biggest takeaway from those is
that this administration sees a path to where the status
quo could work out. You don't lock yourself in for
three to five years if you have serious doubts. You
don't take away your financial flexibility next summer. If you
(44:53):
have serious doubts. It's not a guarantee that it's going
to work out. But they have seen enough. They have
watched these guys throughout the off season, training camp, and
the preseason. Those deals were a bet on the status quo,
and so they see, you know, a lot to like
and for Jalen Green, Allprin from Goon and the rest
of those guys, tonight when they can start to prove
that it was worthwhile.
Speaker 7 (45:14):
Yeah, it was so interesting Ben looking at this see
him as I mean, they've got so many dudes, it's
it's crazy, like you've you've drafted well, you did well
for agency. Fred van Vliet and Dylan Brooks both look
to be, you know, solid center, foundational pieces to build around.
But I was starting with somebody yesterday was saying, well,
I mean they can't play them all right, And I said,
(45:34):
you know, maybe you're hung up in the days of
Mike D'Antoni, where he played seven guys sometimes in a game,
Like I'm looking back through the games last year and
he may don get played ten. I mean, they would
rotate guys off the bench. So I guess my question
is how do you make it work with all these guys?
But it seems like they're going to do their best
to get as many guys touches and playing time as
I can.
Speaker 3 (45:56):
Yeah, definitely, And honestly, this is where the NBA is heading.
If you look at, you know, the championship teams for
this decade, they're not nearly as top heavy as they
were for a lot of the two thousands and the
twenty tens. You know, the model of put two or
three superstars together and then a bunch of role players.
You're not really seeing the super teams anymore. You're seeing
a lot more depth and being able to sort of
(46:18):
mix and match. And so today it's a good example. Look,
Charlotte's not a good team, but LaMelo Ball is sort
of a unique matchup at point guard. He's pretty big,
super admiral, certainly for a thirty year old Fred van Vleet,
so this may be a matchup where you want to
sort of flank him with somebody that's a little bit
bigger and longer and more athletic, like and Amn Thompson
coming in off the bench. And so you're seeing more
(46:39):
of that around the NBA. It's more customized, I would say,
and that's what having depth allows you to do. And
you look at teams like Denver, like Boston that have
won championships in recent years. Sure there are all star
level players and in Nicole Jokic's case, a multi time MVP,
but it's not nearly as you know, top heavy, the
(47:00):
as what Fins saw for a lot of the twentyds
and the twenty ten. So I think the way the
Rockets are building their teams even if they don't necessarily
have that guy right now that you can put to
and say, Okay, this is clearly going to be an
MVP candidate. I think that's okay because the NBA is
going to a model that's a little bit more about depth, continuity, chemistry,
those types of factors.
Speaker 4 (47:20):
Anyway, Ben, I think about what you just said, and
because I wanted to do this yesterday and I thought, well,
we'll get you on Wednesday. Did Jalen Green Apronshin Gun extensions?
Let's do a deeper dive there. I think if this
was the deal that was on the table last year,
(47:41):
wouldn't both guys have signed this last year? So the
time is interesting to me. Also, the structure of the
deals are interesting to me. We played a SoundBite from
Shams where he says Jalen is the first ever in
the NBA to get a two plus one player option
and he's essentially going to bet on himself and go
back to the market. What have you learned about the
(48:03):
structure of these deals along with the timing.
Speaker 3 (48:07):
Yeah, I think with Shangoon it was simply, you know,
all piece camp waiting to see if they could leverage
the rockets for every last time, because at face value,
he is a MAX level player. When you compare it
to other guys in the draft class, other young guys
around the NBA that have got BAX deals, Shangoon is
as good or better. What the Rockets knew was they
(48:28):
had a lot of leverage in these negotiations because it
was a bit first round pick, his capful next summer
with a little lower and or a lot lower than
a lot of these other guys that he's being compared to.
So the Rockets did not have to do this deal
a year early. That was their leverage, and ultimately they
ended up meeting in the middle. You know, it's below
the max, it's not a ton below the max, and
(48:50):
so I think it's one of those it drug out
to the deadline just to make sure, you know, both
parties wanted to know or feel like they knew that
the other side was giving as much as the absolutely
we would. I think, you know, Shingoon clearly it's a
home run to get a guy of his production and
ability on a sub back deal. You know, no injury concerns.
That's a definite win with Jalen. The structure of that deal,
(49:14):
it's really interesting because you know, the money in terms
of average annual value is in the same neighborhood as Shingoon,
but where it was a lot more difficult for the Rockets. Look,
Houston has no concerns giving a five year deal to
Shagoon because he has already proven enough that that's going
to be a positive value deal no matter what. Even
(49:34):
if you never know what's going to happen down the
line in terms of trade opportunities or you know, rising
payrolls and salaries and business decisions, you've already seen enough
from Shangoon that you will give him the deal he
got and you don't have to worry about it at all.
With Jalen, there are flashes, there are glimpses, there's a
world where things could work out, but there's more uncertainty.
(49:55):
And so that's why the Rockets were, you know, drawing
a little bit of a harder line in terms of
we'll give you the money, but we'll do it for
two three years rather than five, because there is more
uncertainty with regards to you know, Howard Shalen's career would
pan out. And it was to the Rockets benefit to
do this deal a year early. A lot of people
will hear me say that and reply, look, why don't
(50:16):
you just take it to restricted creagency in twenty twenty five.
Here's the deal. If you take it to twenty twenty five,
all it takes is one team like the Brooklyn Nets
to put a full max in front of Jalen Green,
and then you have no choice but to match it
if you want to retain him. I get so to
get him on a shorter deal, they had to do
something now.
Speaker 4 (50:35):
So essentially Shingoon gets his money now, but he plays
nice and prevents them Rockets from basically having the price
driven up on them and wasting some cap space by
doing it next year. So it's a little bit of
a win when I get that. That makes sense to me.
Speaker 7 (50:52):
Gordon, Right, Yeah, it's so interesting Ben looking at this.
You know, I watch him in the preseason. It felt
like he may really want at that core to play
a good a good bit of time together. And we
saw them play and it was funny. I think we
were at the first preseason home game and we saw
Ree Shepperd get in the in the first half, and
we go the entire third quarter and they don't put
(51:13):
him in. They played the starters. It felt like the
whole almost the entire third quarter. It tells you you
got a unit here, and they want them to get
into rhythm and gel even more. And what's so exciting
about them was as improved as they were last year,
it feels like they could be even more improved this
year as a starting unit.
Speaker 1 (51:30):
And I just go back to last year too, Ben.
Speaker 7 (51:32):
They started the season, they lose their first three, and
then they go in that six game run.
Speaker 1 (51:35):
The way this.
Speaker 7 (51:36):
Schedule sets up with seeing the Spurs twice, seeing Charlotte
like they should get off to a hot start here?
Speaker 4 (51:42):
What say you can I jump in real quick, guys,
because I like, well, yeah, I'm sorry, be And I
just want to ask what starting five are we talking
about exactly? Because a lot of people expect if you
haven't been keeping up with the Rockets, some people may
think Steven Adams is in the starting five, right, So
what's starting five?
Speaker 1 (51:57):
Exactly? Are we expect human Shingoon.
Speaker 7 (51:59):
At the five time?
Speaker 1 (52:00):
Right? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (52:02):
They'll use the same starting five they had last year
with Fred Jalen Hill and Jabari and Shingoon. I do
think you'll see at least one guy off the bench,
probably at men Thompson playing starters, finance and maybe closing
games from time to time. But I think you'll still
see the same starters. They've proven enough, they've won enough.
Look to Gordy's point, I think the reason you saw
Emy lean on his guys a lot in the preseason
(52:25):
they know that they need to take advantage of this
early portion of the schedule. This is not a year
where if they lose tonight, you say it's October whatever.
It's a long season.
Speaker 4 (52:34):
No.
Speaker 3 (52:34):
The way the schedule steps up, You've got in the
first eight games, You've got Charlotte tonight you'll be favored
a decent bits. You've got the Spurs three times. You've
got in early to mid November, you've got the Pistons,
the Wizards, a couple of games against the Clippers at home,
in which they probably won't have Kawhi Leonard, they've lost
Paul George. You got a back to back against the Trailblazers,
who are bad. So this is the softer part of
(52:57):
the schedule. So they need to take advantage of these games,
especially because the biggest advantage for this Rockets team compared
to others around the NBA, they bring back pretty much
everybody from last year. So whereas a lot of teams
are sort of getting used and integrated with all these
new people that they're trying to get used to in
their rotations, the Rockets know what they have and so
(53:21):
that continuity and the softer schedule means that they need
to sort of fatten up their record early in the year.
And so that's why a game like tonight, it's not
just one out of eighty two. Oh, if they lose whatever,
it's October, you know, get back to me in February
of March. No, this is the part of the schedule
that they need to take advantage of. And so that's
why I think you've seen email. You know, get these
guys ready to hit the ground running, all.
Speaker 4 (53:42):
Right, Ben do Bow's Rockets analysts here at seven ninety
you Homa Rockets Basketball does a great job calling the
shots there for the USA. Today's the Rockets. Why a
log and logger line pop heard eosports seven ninety dot
com seen seven ninety as well if you go to
the site, appreciate him chiming in Rockets favorite tonight by
(54:03):
seven and a half. Real quick thought from you to
wrap up, I can't imagine you think the Rockets are
gonna struggle with the Hornets. This one should be pretty
much as advertised, correct.
Speaker 3 (54:13):
I think, especially with the Hornets missing Mark Williams Brooks.
Shangoon got his new contracts. He's the story going into
this game. The Hornets don't have their starting Big Ben.
Yeah to me, this screams the field. Good story of
get Shangoon involved and you know, let him take the
victory laugh after getting his near mix contract earlier in
the week.
Speaker 4 (54:29):
There it is the voice of Ben. Do bows follow
him on social at b E N d U b
O s E Ben I see over at the TC.
Thank you so much, friend, looking forward to a great
twenty four to twenty five for the Rockets, a playoff team,
damn near playing.
Speaker 3 (54:44):
Tournament, Yes, sir, see in a few minutes.
Speaker 4 (54:47):
Take care brother. All right, let's wrap up here. Let's
go to break on your side. If you guys are
headed over to Toyota Center tonight, you're looking forward to
the Rocket season.
Speaker 1 (54:55):
We'll take a couple of calls.
Speaker 4 (54:56):
Jacob on the north side wants to talk some NBA
as well as the HU the Rockets seven one three
two one two five seven ninety we will also pivot
back into the NFL and uh we go back over
this news that broke the start today. No, not just
new Hopkins, but the Houston Texans have a new linebacker.
Where does he fit and what can we expect? Most
important game of the season for the Texans as well.
(55:18):
On the other side, real Texans talk and listen Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (55:21):
Stanton or Fleet and Chris Gordy, this is next tough
on Sports Sunk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (55:31):
Boy, here we go, going in and hanging out doing
the thing. Both of us excited about the Rockets tonight.
Fleet going over to Toyota Center. Hopefully you'll meet me
over there. Some good crowds last night and last night
last season, emys Doka's first season here. I expect the
same as expectations go to the next level. Why go
to You said they return almost everybody, Well, really, they
(55:53):
return to everybody. It's the same thing. Plus you add
a healthy Steven Adams as well as reached Epherd, who
they got third overall pick.
Speaker 7 (56:02):
If you missed it yesterday, Adam's questionable, right, yeah, huh
So that's why that's why I was assuming they're gonna start.
Speaker 1 (56:10):
They were gonna start. Gotcha.
Speaker 4 (56:11):
And I know some people staying, we're in full football mode.
We're not ready for the NBA. I understand. Uh, we
have a station obligation as we are partners with the
Houston Rockets.
Speaker 7 (56:21):
And I actually say that there's actually I mean, like, yes,
the last prior to last season, yeah, it was hard
to get up for. I like this season, there's a
reason to be excited. They would be a playoff team.
There are those of you that tell me no one
cares about the Rockets. Go to the Toyota Center. Look around.
I'm talking about last year. Go look around. I went
a lot.
Speaker 4 (56:40):
There are people in there that absolutely I see people
wearing that dunkster not marketing campaign by the people over
there at Toyota Center, Bravo, huge hit. I see gear
all over town and I'm looking for Oh, thank you,
by the way, Rockets and us some stuff. Want to
make sure I thank them for that, and I'm excited
about going over see what's going on. Let's take a
phone call. We will get back to some NFL as
(57:01):
we got to try and figure this thing out. As
Week eight is upon us in the league and the
Texans got to go get a w no doubt about that,
all right, Jacob up on the north side. Man, sounds
like you want to chime in on the Rockets in
the NBA whatever.
Speaker 10 (57:14):
Yeah, yeah with the Rockets, man, they yeah, they might
be in the arena, but nationally they they so blad man,
they ain't got no superstars, y'all talking about Briannie Briddnie
a biggert start than anybody on their team. He sold
five hundred thousand k jerseys in twenty four hours. He
got eight point one million flowers or the Patrick is home.
Speaker 7 (57:34):
But Jacobs, is that off his family or his basketball player?
Speaker 1 (57:41):
It doesn't matter this.
Speaker 10 (57:43):
League, yo, yo, Okay, look real quick, like that's like
you was talking about with sir daughter.
Speaker 1 (57:49):
The circus. The circus is the.
Speaker 7 (57:51):
Bag these days, theness.
Speaker 3 (57:55):
Rannie.
Speaker 10 (57:56):
Look before Briney got hurt, right, Briannie was top five
then to usc he almost had a heart attack.
Speaker 3 (58:02):
Bro.
Speaker 10 (58:03):
He couldn't even get on them even know if he
was gonna be able to live alone play basketball.
Speaker 1 (58:07):
Okay, but this is a business.
Speaker 7 (58:08):
This isn't a charity, oh, a charity five hundred thousand.
Speaker 10 (58:12):
He made fifty million. He made fifty million dollars off
of them.
Speaker 7 (58:17):
Documents.
Speaker 1 (58:18):
I don't care whether.
Speaker 10 (58:19):
They based it off of whatever it made.
Speaker 1 (58:21):
Fifty million dollars. This is up, all right, So.
Speaker 4 (58:24):
Let's let's let's combine both of these arguments, just because
I'm gonna let you finish.
Speaker 1 (58:27):
Jake, hold on, I'm gonna let you finish. Let me
get in there.
Speaker 4 (58:30):
Let's combine these arguments for the sake of conversation. If
Bronnie James took the floor at Toyota Center on Draft
night in the second round, if Raphaelstone GM of the
Rockets drafts Bronnie James, how many jerseys in Houston?
Speaker 1 (58:47):
Is he moving nation?
Speaker 2 (58:49):
Why?
Speaker 3 (58:50):
Baby?
Speaker 1 (58:50):
I'm asking a question. Give me, give me, give me Houston.
Speaker 10 (58:54):
I don't know about nationwide, Say four hundred thousand?
Speaker 1 (58:57):
What this one? La Jersey says this was nature?
Speaker 7 (58:59):
Why?
Speaker 1 (59:00):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (59:00):
So I'm asking a question. Is so you're saying, and
I get your point, Bronnie's celebrity the team is cashing
in on. I also agree with Gordon. The celebrity is
because of his dad.
Speaker 1 (59:13):
All right.
Speaker 4 (59:14):
But now I'm trying to I'm trying to localize it
and go If Ronnie James played for the Rockets, how
many times would Matt Thomas say his name on the rail.
Speaker 7 (59:23):
He wouldn't be in Houston in the Red Valley starting
for the Vipers tonight.
Speaker 10 (59:27):
Okay, I guarantee you that they get National TV exposed.
Speaker 3 (59:30):
No one is.
Speaker 4 (59:31):
Putting the Rockets on TV for Brownie teams.
Speaker 1 (59:34):
Three minutes coming. Okay, all right, look for Shepherd, the Shepherd.
They ain't looking for him, He ain't taking for him.
The Shepherd can ball. But if the.
Speaker 10 (59:51):
Ros he's not going on national TV for Shepherd Rockets.
Speaker 4 (59:56):
On National TV, it's going to be because of Shingoon
and Jalen Green.
Speaker 10 (01:00:00):
Okay, Well, Briannie will bring him. I guarantee you Brianie would.
Speaker 4 (01:00:04):
Just watching the game to see a dude get off
the bench for three minutes.
Speaker 10 (01:00:09):
But just one game he matter of fact, okay, during
the preseason he scored more than Clayton.
Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
Thomas one game where the season just started.
Speaker 10 (01:00:22):
You tell you the same thing about Sir ain't gonna
be gonna be the number one quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:00:26):
You talked about that he didn't want to branding.
Speaker 10 (01:00:30):
None of them won then in college, none of Brady
uh Kansasity, none of them. But he's the guy because
he's bring a bag.
Speaker 4 (01:00:38):
Let's do this in the bag, lady, Let's do this
and then we gotta pivot. I'm gonna ask you a
simple question, Yes, sir, will Bronnie James being All Star
in his NBA career?
Speaker 1 (01:00:49):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 10 (01:00:50):
He's gonna be a champion with the Lakers when full question,
Will Bronnie James becoming All Star?
Speaker 7 (01:01:01):
Thank you?
Speaker 3 (01:01:04):
So now.
Speaker 1 (01:01:07):
I appreciate to call Jacob on the north side with that.
Speaker 7 (01:01:10):
Dam There ain't a damn team in the NBA that
would have played Brody Jean. He's off the bench in
Game one other than the Los Angeles Lakers.
Speaker 1 (01:01:18):
He's not an NBA player.
Speaker 7 (01:01:19):
He might develop into one, and I'll give him the
better for the doubt. He's got talent, he's got the pedigree,
but right now he's not a good basketball.
Speaker 4 (01:01:26):
He's not an NBA player. Right now, he's just not
all right, Texans, we got just a minute left?
Speaker 1 (01:01:32):
Who do I have?
Speaker 7 (01:01:33):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:01:33):
I got to do a read here in just a second.
Speaker 4 (01:01:35):
But with a minute left, as we get ready to
do on the other side, Gordy, the Texans are schedule
to practice today twelve twenty five. Will get head coach
Dimico won forty five speaking c J. Stroud shortly after
at two o'clock. So I presume the last hour of
Matt Thomas and into the A team, they'll have some
(01:01:56):
reaction to what Demiko had to say. Devin White, you
had something Mena Chimes. Let's tease that into the next segment.
You had something from Mina Chymes on CJ. Stroud's performance.
You want to tease it? You want me to tease it?
Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
What do you want to do? Yeah, she's just saying that.
Speaker 7 (01:02:11):
His situation reminds her of another talented quarterback who's not
in a great situation right now.
Speaker 3 (01:02:19):
C J.
Speaker 1 (01:02:19):
Stroud? Is this the real CJ was last year? And anomaly?
Speaker 4 (01:02:25):
Let's talk some more strout on the other side, real
texta talking listen, KB A, me and I have no
doubt about it that wherever CJ. Stroud is residing in
the city of Houston, you can reside in a comparable
neighborhood on wherever your means afford you. That's at the
Beheasution says, that's at the good fortune of good builders
(01:02:48):
and good people.
Speaker 1 (01:02:48):
JB.
Speaker 4 (01:02:49):
Thibodeau homes and properties. They are not your average home builder,
whether you got commercial plans or residential plans from the
ground up, or whether you got to rehab.
Speaker 1 (01:02:58):
JB.
Speaker 4 (01:02:59):
Thibodau on his team, they'll step in right there first,
Lady ms Ingrid, they got a whole team that will
step right in and advise you on how to navigate
this real estate thing. Whether you want to be an
investor stand I keep hearing will estate is the best
place to get some equity to but build my wealth.
Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
I agree. JB.
Speaker 4 (01:03:18):
Thibodau can teach you how to do that. Matter of fact,
he's about to do a workshop show you how to
turn one hundred k into three hundred k with his
duplex flex.
Speaker 1 (01:03:25):
Go to JB.
Speaker 4 (01:03:26):
Thibodeau dot com get you more information on that. Good people,
third generation builders that specialize in bringing your real estate
vision to reality. Go to Jbthibodeau dot com. That's jbtibodau
dot com.
Speaker 1 (01:03:39):
Stator Chris Dorty.
Speaker 3 (01:03:42):
This this next time on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 11 (01:03:54):
Philosophy right there in there, you know, I'm uh, you know,
trying to talk to the Miko, but I really can't
get over there. But you know what, it seemed like
we were trying to just run out the clock and
then you know, trying to kick a field goal before
you know, we ended up you know, having to throw
the ball turned down and you know then could give
them the ball back when a minute like forty left.
Speaker 1 (01:04:13):
So you know, I think that it was a good plan.
Just got to ask you better.
Speaker 4 (01:04:19):
We were here from quarterbacks c J. Strout this afternoon
somewhere around two o'clock. Welcome back to next up. Well
we got twenty six minutes from now. Matt Thomas and
rossvill reality. Ross is running here in the studio during
the break talking to me and Gordon Ross is a wow.
I do like Ross, but sometimes our opinions differ in
matters of sports. That's what makes this job fun. Thanks
(01:04:42):
to all of you for hanging out. Some of you
don't necessarily love my takes as well informed as the
majority of them. Ant that's okay. That's what makes being
a sports fan and a working member of the media
like I'm just here for the conversation.
Speaker 1 (01:04:57):
I love. We'll talk more about Devin White. That was CJ.
Stroud and whatever the hell that was at the end
of the green Bay game.
Speaker 4 (01:05:03):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
Yesterday was an off day physically.
Speaker 9 (01:05:07):
C J.
Speaker 4 (01:05:08):
Stroud, Damico Ryans, Bill laser, Bobby Slowyck, Chris Strausser, the
offensive line coach, Jerrod Johnson, the quarterback coach. Everybody on
offense should have been over there in a meeting room
yesterday going through every situation throughout the course of that
game and certainly that final drive. Where are the protection breakdowns?
Speaker 1 (01:05:31):
What is going on?
Speaker 4 (01:05:32):
My quarterback has been hit? I had to sack numbers
up earlier. What if my quarterback has been sacked twenty
times or something? What are we doing here? Stop getting
my guy hit? And now there are those that are wondering,
like is CJC and ghosts? Is he flinching for the
first time in a Texan's uniform. Now, I'm not going
(01:05:58):
to overreact. It was one game. It was the worst
game of his career, the lowest yard production in the
game that he started and finished. However, I expect him
to get right back on the saddle and look more
like the CJ. We know. No, he may not have
the three hundred and whatever it was earlier, three hundred
(01:06:19):
and fifty six or three hundred sixty some od yards pass.
He may not have that, but CJ. Stroud not having
two hundred yards passing per game is absurd. He should
be doing that every time he takes the field. There's
enough weapons and he is clearly talented enough to get
it done. If it's not happening, it's coaching and that
offensive line play. Demiko says they are going to be whole.
(01:06:43):
He didn't say wholesal. Dimiko said there will be changes
and nothing is off the table. Mina chimes, Gordy, you
brought this to my attention, and she is one of
the voices that has concerns for where CJ. Stroud is
in his development. Gordy found this early. I bring this
to you the audience seven one three, two one two, five,
seven nine. If you want to get in and respond
(01:07:05):
to what Mina Chimes, ESPN and NFL Live had to say.
Speaker 7 (01:07:08):
Here's my fear with CJ. Strode.
Speaker 5 (01:07:10):
He is beginning to be the new Justin Herbert for me,
where every week on tape, I'm like, this dude is
putting out some of the fest throws I've seen of
any quarterback, and yet everything around him is crumbling. He's
constantly in third and long, They're constantly running the ball
with no success in early downs. I am starting to
really worry because we're about halfway into the season. This
(01:07:32):
should be a super Bowl team. But Alex it feels
like the infrastructure around him is not good enough right now.
Speaker 4 (01:07:37):
Ooh Mina Kimes courtesy of the Four Letter Network. The
infrastructure around C. J. Stroud Gordy is hurting him. You
agree with that. I'm welling to hear it out. I mean,
let's be clear what she said. This problem though with
Justin Herbert and structure la. He's got a brand new
(01:08:00):
head coach, got weapons? Is this This is Herbert's third
head coach?
Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
Is that right?
Speaker 4 (01:08:05):
Anthony lenn whoever it was last year and now it's
Jim Arba, So this is a third coach? Herbert tat
I like Justin Herbert. I know there are a lot
of a lot of people that are high on them.
I can't believe that the Chargers overall look as bad
as they do. But was ly Lynn got fired at
(01:08:27):
twenty twenty, so it was Brandon Staley. So Staley and
Herbert came in together, I believe. So okay, so second coach, Fine,
it's okay, You're right. He was a twenty twenty draft pick,
so whatever made sense to me at the time. But
I wasn't gonna get caught up in that fine so
(01:08:48):
twenty so it's actually just fifty year, third coach in
five years. So when you say to me, that's a
culture issue, the Texans don't have a culture issue. To me,
go and CJ and Will Anderson Jr. And some other
guys have fixed that. That's no longer the problem. The
issue they having is actual execution and game management. The
(01:09:13):
coaching staff deserved to get called out in whatever the
hell that was at Green Bay. Now on that's on
one hand, Demiko would tell us, guys, I'm out there
with five reserves. We were in the game, we took
the ball away and we didn't give it up. The
offensive line trash that falls at defeat of Bobby Sloyd.
(01:09:35):
Do the Texans have, she said, crippling him?
Speaker 1 (01:09:41):
Is CJ.
Speaker 4 (01:09:42):
Stroud better than what he's being provided? Mind you, he
used the term five headed monster, referring to the three
receivers Dal Collins, Diggs, the running back Mixing, and the
tight end shorts.
Speaker 1 (01:09:58):
He used that term.
Speaker 4 (01:10:01):
So the five headed monster scored like six touchdowns in
seven games in the second half of games, Like that's
just abysmal. So is CJ better or is he a
victim of the circumstances around him. I'm gonna say it
(01:10:21):
is I agree with Mina here. I'm gonna say the
issue the Texans have had and they've lost two games,
so we got to keep this in context, right, Gordon,
whatever is wrong with the Texans is less about CJ
and more about other people.
Speaker 1 (01:10:37):
Right.
Speaker 7 (01:10:38):
Even in some of the wins, they've had poor offensive
line play too, So it's not this isn't a winnings lossess.
Thing is this offense was awesome last year and was
supposed to be even better this year cause you bring
everybody back and you added digs and mixing, and yet
it's inconsistent, to say the least because of offensive line issues.
Speaker 4 (01:10:57):
To me, it's real simple. You got guys that are
being highly compensated, guys that have been accomplished in other places.
I'm looking at you, Shaq Mason, Guys that have been
drafted high in Larami Tonzel and Titus hour Hell. Juice
Scruggs is a second round pick, cool Kenyon Green as
a first rounder. You've got draft picks, you got guys
making money. You got guys that like Laraimi Tonzel who
(01:11:19):
get the credentials each and every year. So the offensive line, okay,
if you've got all of that, because I assure you
there are less talented offensive lines that are playing better
than the Texans old line is playing. So that if
you've got toys and you've got ingredients, if the meal
is garbage, then I have no other choice than to say,
(01:11:40):
either the restaurant health code is off or the acumen
of the chef is off. On offense, the chef is
Bobby Sloyck. I used to say this, and we'll go
to break. I'll take these phone calls on the side,
I take what maybe I'll grab kJ before we do that.
(01:12:00):
Say this when we win Dallas, about Romo and feel
what you want to about Romo. About We've heard all
the jokes and the team, but listen to the point
when other players. If other players on the team were
as good as Tony Romo was, the Cowboys would have
won the title. The problems were not always Romo. But
he's gonna better run of it because of the position
(01:12:21):
he plays, who he is as a personality and where
he plays. I feel the same way about CJ. If
other people played as well as CJ was at his job,
then this thing would look different. Granted they're still five
and two and five and away finding a way to
do this. We'll take calls on other side, Steven one, three,
two point two, five, seven ninety kJ and Cypruss.
Speaker 1 (01:12:41):
You'll close us out for this segment.
Speaker 12 (01:12:44):
Real quick, man, I know you're up against the Letter
Show again, Fellas m Jada, go real quick.
Speaker 1 (01:12:48):
I made a punch to you.
Speaker 12 (01:12:49):
I made a punch to you guys earlier this season
when I said I fear no team in this league
right now, with the collection of talent we have, I
feel like any problems we have against another team is
self inflicted. If it in Kansas City or Baltimore. I
don't fear anybody, and it may be one or two
other teams that I'm I'm missing, but we I go
into every game. I feel like we got to try
to win. If we lose it because we did something
to Row. But real quick, I got a question for
(01:13:10):
you guys. This is the second year in the Row.
Hint hint of that player at play call it with
the team. I look at Steph Diggs last year, Steph
Diggson's digress from what he did last year. I look
at Tankdale obviously Tankdale's degressed, Dalton Schultz's digress, Uh, tank
is degressed. Obviously the offensive line is digressed. My question
(01:13:34):
to you guys, and I hear what you got to say.
On the other side, my question is this cult this
very well? Is this just a hypothetical? But could this
very well because of all the hype that slow It
got last season being called a genius and having growned CJ.
Could because he's not letting CJ do what he needs
to do at the line of scrimmage himself.
Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
Could we could this be a by product or could this.
Speaker 12 (01:13:55):
Be the result of slow It feeling like he has
to live up to the standard that he feels like
he said last year, even though that standard may have
been more CJ than him, But could be very well
be looking at the fallout of Slowik try to prove
that he's the smartest person in the room offensively and
not just playing using the talent the best way that
he the best way that he should be as opposed
(01:14:15):
to trying to force his system onto the talent.
Speaker 4 (01:14:18):
And I want to hear what you guys got to
sell it up. Interesting points by UKJ. Most thought provoking
call by kJ up in Cyprus that we've had since
he's been dialing up this show, Gordon, let's respond on
the other side. We'll take the original DeAndre Renfro in
most City, there's Tony and Nukenny and we'll wrap up here.
Get you over to Matt Thomas and Ross Villal high noon,
we'll get the Matt Thomas show. For now.
Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
It's next up on the legendary KB and Me.
Speaker 3 (01:14:42):
Next up continues on your Apple TV.
Speaker 6 (01:14:47):
Listen to Sports Talk seven ninety on any device with
our free iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 8 (01:14:55):
Best coaching right, Good coaches have to make sure we
make those adjustments and he can get it done within
game right. And that's where you know you separate yourself
as a coach, being able to adjust on the fly
from whatever you may have prepared for and what is
happening right at the moment. So you have to be
able to adjust on the fly and get it fixed.
Speaker 4 (01:15:16):
Demiko, I agree with you. Bobby is offense and he
doesn't have the excuse right. Yes, Joe Mixon has been
out in games that they had Nico. Nico was out,
they had Jo mixing. Tank Delle has been out there
for every game except one. Like Dalton Schultz starts for you.
(01:15:40):
Y'all paid him thirteen a year. I don't understand. Do
I get the Miko like that? Like the Green Bay loss,
I personally don't put on do Miko's defense when you
got that many dudes out. I get that, Gordion, I
understand your point. They were in position. They ultimately obviously
didn't get it done. But making adjustments is not something
(01:16:02):
that has been synonymous with Bobby Sloyd. We haven't seen
fireworks what we would agree going it the best game
we've seen from them, and I'm talking about like that
Patriots game. I'm not dealing with that. Patrin is an
awful that was a rookie in his first career start.
I'm not take for the sake of this conversation, take
that off the board and the forty one points that
(01:16:23):
was scored. To me, the best game was the Colts
game and they won by two. They put up twenty
nine points. It was a balanced performance by the offense.
We haven't seen those Texans since. It bothers me and
I understand people like Mina Kimes that asked the question,
(01:16:45):
what's going on here? From an operational standpoint, an organizational
structure standpoint. The culture is healthy, but the structured day
to day in game, what are we doing? And I
said this to you, Gordon, I come to.
Speaker 13 (01:17:00):
You with this.
Speaker 1 (01:17:02):
Last year.
Speaker 4 (01:17:03):
Sometimes you can catch lightning in a bottle and I
do believe the text and snuck up on some folks
last year. Momentum can be dangerous. Momentum and faith can
be dangerous when you talk about team sports.
Speaker 1 (01:17:16):
But we still must face the facts.
Speaker 4 (01:17:18):
Bobby Slowk and Domiko have never done the job before,
meaning this is their second season. We have to give
some credit to the other head coaches and coordinators in
the league. Do you think Bobby Slowik is either a
trying to audition for a head coaching job and kind
of getting in his own way or is he just
(01:17:39):
these are just the lumps that come with learning on
the job.
Speaker 1 (01:17:42):
It's I don't even think it's him.
Speaker 7 (01:17:44):
I mean again, like I for an offensive coordinator, the
game plan and the scheme and the place called in game,
I don't think that that's been a huge part. Like
I don't think they're not dialing up the right place
at the right time. I think the players aren't executed.
This man the offense to the line of scrimmage on
fourth and inches and ran in the a gap versus Buffalo.
(01:18:05):
I mean maybe they run that practice and it works.
And then they got in the game and Laramie Tunsell's
big sat mound decided WHOA. I got pushed back by
some dude. Have never heard of play better? Your better,
o lineman? Play better?
Speaker 4 (01:18:17):
If you can't, Why are you asking tight ends to
block defensive ends if you know it. I can't believe
because I'm keeping extra people in because my first five
can't get it done.
Speaker 1 (01:18:27):
No, hear me out.
Speaker 4 (01:18:29):
Dalton Schultz is probably not blowing daneil Hunter off the
ball in practice. I doubt Kate Stover is lining up
at fullback and just knocking his z's out shire three
yards on his ass. So then what makes you think
that's gonna work against Minnesota or.
Speaker 7 (01:18:45):
Green Back because you're having to keep the extra people in.
Why the five can't get it done? Why are they
lining up at fullback? I'm talking about point of attack
in the backfield and on the edges. Why are they
being asked to do things that their skill set? To me,
that's co because they didn't keep the fullback right then
they cut anrew back.
Speaker 4 (01:19:02):
Yeah, begs not on the original, the original DeAndre I
in west and Katie, what's.
Speaker 3 (01:19:08):
Up with it?
Speaker 1 (01:19:10):
How you doing?
Speaker 13 (01:19:10):
Good morning to you guys. Man, I just wanted to
mention y'all talking mentioned CJ Strouds Man. CJ is nowhere
near the problem.
Speaker 10 (01:19:17):
Man.
Speaker 13 (01:19:18):
The fact of the matter is we've known the offensive
line has been an issue, but this year it's even worse.
Speaker 7 (01:19:25):
I mean, last year, at least she got some time
to throw. Last year was healthy, right, de Andrea. Last
year the biggest problem was we couldn't stay healthy. This year,
you're healthy, You're just not good and that's what's scary.
Speaker 13 (01:19:37):
Yeah, that's exactly I mean. Last year, I mean it's
been bad. We went over that over and over again.
But this year it's just he's not getting no time
to throw, guys. I mean, how can you I mean
that that's kryptonite to a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:19:49):
I said yesterday, Yeah, I said yesterday. Two quarterbacks in
the league have been sacked just too, having sacked more
than CJ.
Speaker 1 (01:19:58):
That's just sacks. We didn't count the that's crazy. Exactly, yes, sir,
and I I got another point to make. Go ahead.
Speaker 13 (01:20:05):
We really missing Nico, man, We really missing Nico, because
not only is he our biggest physical receiver.
Speaker 7 (01:20:11):
He's our fastest receiver.
Speaker 13 (01:20:13):
And I'm thinking like the secondary of opposing teams are
not really taking a series as far as going over
the top. So what I really recommend, even if we
don't hit on it, run a couple of nine routes
to loose up the defense if you don't even have
to connect on them necessarily. If you just run some
nine routes and at least give the defensive coordinator of
something to think about.
Speaker 1 (01:20:30):
Here's the problems.
Speaker 4 (01:20:31):
Thank you so much, original dendre To run a deeper
route concept, it takes time for the receiver to get
down the field. That is time pass rushers are coming
to put their helmet in CJ. Strial's neck. So Bobby
Sloyd is in a conundrum. I really want to dial
up something deep, but my guy's getting hit. All right,
(01:20:53):
Tony Nukenny, I got you like twenty seconds.
Speaker 9 (01:20:56):
Hey, I just want to say, for CJ's benefit that
you know, two times in that New Packer game, number
twenty three, pop CJ on that one time he ran
and put his shoulder down and then he got out
of bounds. And that number ninety eight eight or whatever
threw his shoulder into DJ and number twenty three comes
(01:21:17):
over there and dances over the top. Where the hell
are all his linemen over there standing up.
Speaker 4 (01:21:22):
For it somewhere trying to figure out which way is
up because they just got a game and stunt ran
on him, and tight As Howard is cleaked. A man's
cleat should never be facing this guy. Why is Tightest
Howard on his back or I stepped on Dalton's shows
like whatever? Man RENFROMO City closes out real quick, bro
twenty seconds or less.
Speaker 2 (01:21:42):
Yeah, you need to listen to stand when it comes
down to football, play call and everything else because fans
more into the game said that played the game but
saying you'll hit the point. Just like I said before
when I first called in about I am still not
sold on Bobby's Floyd. It's play calling, yeah, because as
you can see, I think it as part of winning
(01:22:04):
from last year to this year because teams fires.
Speaker 7 (01:22:09):
God, it's a bum excuse somebody else. Get this whole
line to play better. They'll see sucks. Renfro We up
against line, the line ain't.
Speaker 1 (01:22:19):
Playing guard is guardy.
Speaker 2 (01:22:22):
You're right to the offensive line do suck, but just
you'm staying one thing to guard their like Stan say,
it comes from the office of play calling of him
doing what he know. It's the officserve line this week.
So we played better last year than we did this year.
And it's because of you know how you dropped your scheme.
You know he got to get the ball out of
his head quick, so you got It's all.
Speaker 1 (01:22:41):
In play caller, no doubt about it.
Speaker 4 (01:22:43):
