A hot day addition of next Up Here on Sports

new to the station, new to the show, welcome, show hosts,
stay in Northfleet. That would be me as stand sportsman
on social. To my left my radio partner Chris Gordon.
I feel this program director. You can find him on
social at Chris Gordon. There's Connor y McGovern. He's at
(00:44):
Connory McGovern of course. Where As Sports Talk seven ninety
thanks to the Sewn Salisbury Show, Each and every weekday
morning six to ten am, we get up, hang out
with the crew, our resident quarterback, Sean Salisbury, Brian Lalima
baseball aficionado, and in Manuel just tries to keep two
basic white guys in line.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
It's a bit. If you follow their show.
Speaker 8 (01:02):
We'll be with you to noon some afternoon baseball for
the Astros Matt Thomas Show, immediately following us into Astros
on deck for the rubber match, trying to avoid a
sweep in Philadelphia. Our aren't our Astros? Excuse me? Astros
on deck at two first pitch, shortly after three o'clock,
Astros taking al at the hands of said Phillies five
(01:25):
to zero shutout last night.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
What's some interest in you lose the games you score
zero runs in?
Speaker 8 (01:33):
It is possible to tie zero zero. How many times
has that happened in the history of baseball? Well, it's
back in the day. I mean now, they will keep
playing until there is.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
A winner, do they? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (01:42):
Did not MLB stop, like even extra innings stops at
a certain point, keep going.
Speaker 9 (01:49):
That's my check that they checked that. And see there's
some ties in baseball anymore. You can't play a game
five hours. They will they have or what they'll do
is they'll suspend play and say we'll resume this the
next day or something. But they would. That's good point.
That makes sense to me. That's why they changed that.
That like, that's why I kind of like the ghost
Runner go running makes all the sense of it was
(02:10):
There have been games at min in May Park. I
remember it was like a Wednesday night a couple of
years ago where. Shoot, it was like it was getting
close to midnight. We're until like the fifteenth and and
they're like, okay, this is stupid. Somebody just wins so
we can go home. Baseball is going to baseball. Many
would say, stand, don't worry about the Astros now losers
of two in a row. Phillies are a good team, yeah,
(02:31):
sold the Astros.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (02:33):
The Aaronola guy's pretty good. You know, we were went
to college. Don't know where he went to college? Yeahsh
you all I know is checks notes. Aaron Nola toss
four hits, four hit ball, seven shutout innings. Aaron Nola,
now twelve and six, earned to win last night. He
was winless in his last seven starts, five no decisions
(02:56):
and two losses prior to facing the Houston Astros last night.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
And that's true.
Speaker 8 (03:01):
So now six of eight, six of eight they are
and the culprit yet again for the Astro scoring no runs,
zero for five runners and scoring position seven men left on.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
I do not know how many extra base hits there
were or were no. It's almost impressive.
Speaker 9 (03:19):
It's almost like, my god, you guys, you guys can
can strand runners better than anybody in the league.
Speaker 8 (03:25):
You know what's interesting what I heard rossvir Reale. And
we'll talk to Mastros here. Not gonna lie to your
Texans rosters finally out set. We know that three pm yesterday,
and so we will hear from the general manager, Nick Caseario,
who addressed the media this morning at nine o'clock. We
will also be joined by Aaron Wilson. Now we're Texans
(03:47):
and NFL insider for right here, seven ninety four, the
NFL and the Texans appropriately, So he's at practice today
as the guys on the practice field. Now they've been
out there about twenty minutes, give or take. That's coming
up in twenty five some point is let's do the
strolls now because we really need to get to the
Texans where the bulk of our show will be today.
I heard Ros vir Real say, last two seasons, Astros
(04:12):
ops with runners in scoring position, top five in the
majors the last two years. This is the first year
that they've now received back down to the middle of
the pack.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Yeah. What's the opposite of clutch? What's the word choke?
Speaker 9 (04:27):
Yeah, I mean, I don't know if they're choking, but
it's it's it's non clutch. It's to be creative. Met
on what out? Strikeout?
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Uh too?
Speaker 9 (04:38):
Met on one out double play like good god man?
Like that's where I mean we joke calld time about
small ball. I know people hate buns and all, but
you're giving up and out. Yeah, man, well fight some
other way to produce runs, all right?
Speaker 8 (04:58):
Justin verlande ja if he got beat up a little bit,
I would say in his second outing, coming off his
second stint on the I l Verlander it was really
and what did he say? If we have that, I'd
love it. I'm trying to pull it up in here.
Verlander responded, it was really one pitch, Yeah, Castiano's got him.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
What was that? A curve ball.
Speaker 8 (05:23):
Right over the heart of the plot? Three run shot
and give me a thumbs up. So I'm sorry, Condor
when you have that, and we will play that for
the people.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
JV.
Speaker 8 (05:32):
It got away from you, and it really taints the
overall numbers.
Speaker 10 (05:36):
You know, Hey, so you get swing on a on
a decently located slider, you know, tip your cap, you know,
I thought I had a turner there, didn't get the call,
and then you know it's a good, yeah, decent swing
and hit the ball just in the right spot, Harper
blue swing in and then uh, you know, one bad
(05:58):
pitch and a bad spot.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Unfortunately.
Speaker 10 (06:03):
I know, I wish I could ad it on back,
but uh, you know, yeah, yeah, especially Conny and Sonola
when he's when he's going well, obviously, you know it's
gonna be a tight game. You know, once you go
up to one, you know you got a you got
a hold in there. And Nick took a gray swing
on a on a pitch that hung a little bit,
(06:24):
and that was a ballgame, unfortunately.
Speaker 8 (06:27):
Justin Verlando, on the curve ball that Castianos took out
for his eighteenth home of the year and making it
a four zero lead for the Phillies. Phillies would score
four times in the inning, and that was essentially all
she wrote. VERLANDA, I remind you, at forty one years
of age, one hundred and eighty nine days, is indeed
the oldest active pitcher in the majors.
Speaker 9 (06:50):
But he brings up a good point on that Trait Turner.
The fourth pitch to Trey Turner caught the bottom bottom
of the zone and they called ball, and then literally
the next base hit and again you know it should
have been a strikeout. Instead, it's not Terry Turner singles,
Harper singles, he strikes out bomb and then cast on us.
So again it's just I cannot wait. I mean, I
(07:12):
don't know if you watch how much you watching an
Oriel series. But again, like I'm hearing more now than
ever Robert Ford and Steve Sparks on the radio broadcast saying, well,
that's just a bad call there. Oh that's a miss call.
I'm watching the TV broadcast. I'm here, Jeff Blum and
Todd Kalaso. Where was that? I mean, I was right there.
I was at a ball. I mean, we're seeing night
in and nine and there's so many miscalls by these umpires.
(07:34):
I cannot wait till we get the robot OMPs because
it's just man, it's there are moments that they are
costing guys innings or costing teams runs because they can't
get the damn call right. And I know human element
and all this, but man, my god, like, when's the
breaking point, Rob Manford, when you finally get your crap
together and say these OMPs suck? It just won't be
(07:56):
this year you get some younger guys that like a
sixty five year old due behind home plate. Probably no
man hatteracts like, let's let's get somebody with the sight.
Speaker 8 (08:04):
There was sixty five year old umps behind the plate
when the Astros were winning World Series, So let's not
do that.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
I'm just saying they're missing calls every night. They missed
them that year.
Speaker 8 (08:13):
The difference is dudes were putting the ball over the
fence and dudes were moving but detected.
Speaker 9 (08:19):
Where we can't say that you're bad at your job, Like,
it's just so silly in sports. All umpires referees in
the NFL, don't you dare say a word about We're
gonna find you if you say he.
Speaker 8 (08:31):
Missed a call. Feel good to get that out. Jose
l two, two for four. It's costing Astro's games. No,
it's costing them games. They can't hit right now. Well, yeah,
but Astros Alex Bregman oh for four. Yeah, the Das
oh for four. John Singleton and Shay Wickham, who pinch
hit for Singleton combined, they go oh for three at
first base. Jeremy Pina oh for four. I mean just
(08:54):
Aaron Nola, who hadn't been great prior to that start
last night. He got the best of them, and it
was one of those. And now the Astros this afternoon again,
try and avoid getting swell.
Speaker 9 (09:06):
Oh no, it's been awesome all year. I mean I
I got him on my fantasy team. Who you said
he hasn't gotten the win. That's not his fault. Last time, Abody,
he went six and two third shoutout innings and they
didn't you know, they won the game. He didn't get
the US decisions and to lusses. But Sam, you understand,
no decision doesn't mean the picture was bad. No decision
means he didn't get the information. Okay, we'll readisinformation. She's
(09:27):
twelve and six on the year with a three thirty
h right, pretty damn good all star.
Speaker 8 (09:31):
I didn't say he was a bad picture. Clearly he's
an All Star. What I'm saying to you is the
facts are he's been winless his last seven. But that's
such a silly Then why did they keep it? Because
I don't feel like arguing with you today.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
It's just silly. I really just want to talk about football.
Do a good show.
Speaker 8 (09:48):
You can be a pictures lost to a great picture.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
That's your point.
Speaker 8 (09:52):
That's okay, Then we shouldn't talk about the astros rest of
the day, because that's all you want to say. You're
really gonna piss me off the day, and I don't
want to do that. All right, let's go to break
Connor didn't want to hear us argue'all want to do
that either. Let's talk on the other side about something
that we're probably gonna arguet about again. Texan's fifty three
man roster is complete. We're their surprises quarterback conundrum. What
(10:13):
else s did I to you? We'll have comments seven
one three, two one two five seven ninety. Sports Talk
SEM ninety home and Houston.
Speaker 6 (10:19):
Sports Next up continues on your Apple TV. Listen to
Sports Talk seven ninety on any device with our free
iHeart radio apps.
Speaker 11 (10:35):
For myself, right let know Nick and the staff of
our scouting staff, they'll do a good job of trying
to comb through the rosters here over the next couple
of days to see if there's anywhere we can you know,
add and upgrade our roster. So but for me, I
dial right now just dealing solely with the guys that
we have on our team, and I just rely on
Nick and his staff and trust the work that they
(10:57):
put in in right to see if there's anybody else
they feel that's worthy of, you know, upgrading our roster.
So I rely heavily on them when it comes to
those those decisions.
Speaker 8 (11:10):
That coach to Miko Ryans earlier in the week. Do
believe that was on Monday, prior to roster cut down
yesterday three pm local time, Texans had to get it
down Gordon. Many of those cuts started to leak, I
shouldn't say many. A few started the league while we
were on the air yesterday, and that obviously wrapped up
as the A team was kicking off yesterday afternoon. Welcome
(11:30):
back in the next up stan Fleet here, Gordy right there.
The Texans are now down to fifty three, and there's
been so much conversation about a couple of particular groups,
position groups, and so what does that mean for the
future of the Houston Ashroth, Houston Astros, Houston Texans in
twenty twenty four. The first thing that jumped out to
(11:54):
me outside of the reports in the quarterback room in
infect the starter so I'll move. We wondered if the
Texans would keep seven wide receivers or six and who
would those six b while we were on the air.
Ben Skarana gets cut, Noah Brown gets cut, and I
was like, oh, okay. We find out they do indeed
(12:17):
keep seven receivers, you know, the Big three. Hutchison Woods,
John Mitchi, the third makes it. We thought that he
would coming off that third preseason game, and Steven Simms,
the team's best returner, does carve out a spot. So
if you go seven receivers, that means you're going to
have to take away from a position group somewhere else.
(12:38):
I am reminded that the Texans only kept six to
start the initial fifty three. And that's the first thing
I want to say here, Gordon, this is the initial
fifty three. By the time we get to game week
next week, it may look just a hair different, as
I do anticipate there will be some additions. So first
thing for me, seven wide receivers. Robert Woods makes it.
(13:01):
And if something were gonna happen to the big three,
I think they put Robert Woods out there before Hutchinson,
Sims or Meggie. That's what That's how highly I think
they think of Robert Woods. Yeah, they're they're trusting the
veteran and that's that's why they kept them.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
You know, again, I think he's fine.
Speaker 9 (13:19):
I think a lot of us thought maybe he was
a candidate to be cut and save a little cap money.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
But again, I'll defer to them.
Speaker 9 (13:26):
They liked the veteran presence, and you know, it's it's
a group of it's a good mix. I mean, you
got Stefan Diggs, who's been around the block a long time. Obviously,
when you look at guys like, you know, Robert Wood's
been around a while but then and Nico has kind
of coming into his own, but he's you know, just
getting his second contract and then he got tanked. Deel
going into your two John Metchi Xavier Hudchetson are still
(13:49):
very young.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
So it's a good mix of young and old.
Speaker 9 (13:51):
I'm just a little surprised that they kept Stephen Simms.
I just thought, you know, when they talked about using
Tank Dell maybe in their turn game, Damien all that
kind of stuff. You know, keeping a guy who is
a subpar receiver at this point in his career a
good return man, they find the value in keeping using
(14:11):
a roster spot on just the return.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
I just know this.
Speaker 9 (14:14):
Steven Simms better ay man, better be a damn good
return man. Better give me some arts right now.
Speaker 8 (14:19):
According to and I have not looked at the Texans
official depth chart, if it's even out there on the
practice field right now, but the projections have punt returner
Steve Sims backed up by Tank Dlle kick returners Damian
Pierce and Steven Simms.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
I think that's probably the right move.
Speaker 8 (14:38):
I thought Sims would sneak in there if they were
to keep seven because of his return ability. With the
new kickoff rules, a premium on returning the football and
covering kicks makes sense.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
There.
Speaker 8 (14:49):
Let me say this, I just said all that about
what I think they think about Robert Woods. If there
were an opportunity, something happens to somebody in the Big three,
I would probably give Xavier Hutchinson the chance to go
prove that he's ready for a bigger workload. I think
he's had the most consistent camp of all the wide
(15:11):
receivers outside of the Big Three. He's the dude I
think that has earned the right to let's see if
you can truly be a starter in this league or not.
All Right, The conversation then moves from there. No surprises
on the offensive line. It's the starting five. They end
up keeping a course second round pick Blake Fisher, Ken
Drick Green makes the team for the second consecutive season,
(15:33):
Jared Patterson now second year he returns, and Nick Broker,
So they end up keeping nine on the offensive line.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
That's the number you typically keep. That makes sense.
Speaker 8 (15:46):
It sounds like they may look to bring back a
couple guys on the practice squad at tackle. But I
didn't see any surprises there. Let's get to what the
surprises are for you, Gordon. I mentioned the wide receivers
first team. That caught my attention. Where did your eyeballs go?
Immediately upon seeing five running backs? Do we need five
(16:06):
running back? It was glaring. I ain't gonna lie to tell you.
I said, whoa wait? What that that to me?
Speaker 9 (16:11):
Screams we didn't want to lose British Brooks Like we
didn't want to. We didn't want to out here try
to bring him back to the rosters or to the
practice squad. Well, I said that, I thought even Jawa
Jordan getting cut now, he's banged up, he's got some
injuries that he's dealing with. But I thought that they've
done a good job bringing backs in the house that
(16:33):
one or two of those backs will get scooped up
and claimed by somebody British Brooks, and this started to
come out as they kept releasing Uh who was that.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
That got released?
Speaker 8 (16:43):
Yesterday when we were sitting in here, John Beck got released.
So when Beck got released, I was like, all right,
But Den Troy Harston got released.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
I was like, well, what are we doing keeping them?
Speaker 8 (16:54):
So they decided not to keep a full back, so
the fifth running back, Brooks, actually the acts as a
pseudo fullback in certain situations. Then my eyeballs went, okay,
well that tells me the tight end room. Tiaguer Conatriano
we know was released. Dalton Keene think he's banged up,
so he obviously got released as well. So they're keeping
(17:14):
the three tight ends. So some combination of Brevin Jordan,
Kate Stover and British Brooks will act at least right
now the initial fifty three as the full bank.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
I just hope it works.
Speaker 9 (17:28):
I mean it's a team that I mean for the
first few weeks, I was like they struggled to run
the football. Damian Pierce is already having a hard time
running between the tackles. They were able to get something
out of who's my guys with the Giants now running
down Singletary having Singletary, and he was able to be productive.
But I'm just saying, if they come out they can't
run the football Week one against the Colts and you
(17:49):
don't have you know, you're trying to plug in this
guy and that guy is a blocking back. I'm gonna
go bring my damn full back back somebody to be
a leader.
Speaker 8 (17:56):
And I might have called him John, but Andrew Beck
y'all know who I was talking about, big man sixty three,
two fifty five. He's just been nicked up. And that
was really taking a step back. That was really something
that I thought the Texans did here. Think about all
the players that had been heard over the past couple seasons,
Coutoriano out, back out, heck, Charlie, heck out. If you've
(18:21):
been banged up, they didn't keep you around. Now speaking
of being banged up, when it comes to the quarterback position,
remember we kept saying, and I did a real time
where's case Keenum, Why in this final preseason game is
he not in there? Three and a half minutes into
the first come to find out the report on the
broadcast was accurate. Case Keenum, who has a foot injury.
(18:43):
We were waiting to hear the severity of it. The
injury was so severe that Case Keenum has been put
on the season ending ir joining Brandon Hill, a seventh
round safety draft selection out of last year University of Pittsburgh.
Case Keenum Gordy done for the year. So then I'm going, Okay,
that means Tim Boyle is going to be the third quarterback.
(19:04):
Not Tim Boyle gets cut. The Texans elect to only
carry two quarterbacks on the.
Speaker 9 (19:11):
Fifty three man roster. Shocking, It's a little it's a
little surprising. I again, I like, I was up the thought.
I thought Case Kingdom should should be a coach anyway, agree,
Although I did have somebody telling me that you know
that if you watch his his throws in the preseason,
they were off because he was playing he's playing the ringer.
Speaker 8 (19:32):
Oh yeah, somebody said that to me when I was
in a press box. Somebody made me up on social
so they would have been way better if he was.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
So Case Gim's way better than he looks and telling
you he's just hurt.
Speaker 8 (19:41):
Was he hurt last year when he put up a
QBR A pass. No, he had a QBR like thirty five.
It was awful. He's thirty six.
Speaker 9 (19:47):
Look, he's beloved here locally, but let's let's put a
cap on him and let's have him convert to uh.
I don't know they have, like what's the work program,
Like you'll be a volunteer coach, like something like you
made enough money, you got house here, Like, let's just
convert you to one of those you know, get you
in the coaching room. But yeah, I just tim boil
again if you wanted to keep him, great, if not, whatever, But.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
I don't know, man, I don't know what they're gonna do.
Speaker 9 (20:13):
Like at minimum, I want to go grab somebody off
off of one of these quarterbacks that got cut, you yester,
and throw them on my practice squadron.
Speaker 8 (20:19):
Well, I presume, because again the NFL rule is you
can no longer elevate the emergency quarterback up and down
as many times as you'd like. So what the text
has decided to do is we're not going to waste
a roster spot, which is a prudent move by Nick Caserio.
What we're gonna do is just carry two that allows
(20:40):
us to have five running backs and seven wide receivers,
so on and so forth, like we're gonna play a
numbers game here, and we're gonna roll with Davis Mills
astitute and we hope, you know, speedy recovery and wish
case keenan Well seems to be a really nice guy.
We share some of the same spiritual beliefs and I'm
with him on all that. But from a football standpoint,
(21:00):
what will they do? And they'll add somebody to the
peace squad. Maybe it's Tim Boll, maybe it's somebody else.
If Tim Boll is not claimed. All right, let's talk
more about the Texans fifty three man roster live from
the Houston Mephist Training Center. On the other side, we
go to one Aaron Wilson, our Texans insider. We will
go down this roster with him as well as he
(21:23):
was reporting the stuff fast and furious as he always
does real Texas Talk.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
And listen to seven ninety stand Norfleet. It's just a
five Chris.
Speaker 6 (21:33):
Cordytu the Next Up mentality on your radio.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Everyboll that prepares you for the next one.
Speaker 6 (21:41):
Welcome back to Next Up on Sports Talk seven ninety half.
Speaker 8 (21:46):
It hour into a Wednesday edition. The next up talking
Texans fifty three man roster is out as of yesterday afternoon,
a man that we followed, I refreshed more yesterday than
probably have all year. Gordon waiting to get the reports
and updates from one Aaron Wilson who is live at
NRG right now. Should I say the Houston Methis Training
(22:09):
Center as the newly minted fifty three men are taking
the field that have made the roster for the twenty
four season, at least the initial roster. Aaron, congratulations again
on another training camp preseason. You were on the beat,
fast and furious yesterday afternoon. Thank you for keeping us
all informed. What stood out to you the most given
(22:30):
the Texans twenty twenty four initial roster? Connor, would you do?
I'm gonna put Aaron on hold? Would you clear that
up for me? So, Gordon, we left off with the
offense until we get Aaron back up. Any other thoughts
from you? Running back, wide receiver, the quarterback position. We
talked about what will they do with this emergency quarterback
practice squad? Spot anything else offensively before we look at
(22:52):
the defense.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Oh, I was just gonna say defensively, keeping ten DBS.
Speaker 9 (22:55):
I thought, you know, most people had them at nine,
so you know, it's just an extra guy here, an
extra guy there at a couple different spots.
Speaker 8 (23:03):
So defensively, not a lot of surprises for me. They
end up keeping the four defensive ends that I thought
they would outside chance that I thought your guy Ali
Gay would make the team as the fifth defensive end
I've been it was reported yesterday that he was going
to be designated at least they want to bring it
back on the practice squad, so he's a priority for
(23:25):
them there, all right, so let's continue with at least
try and start the thing.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Aaron Wilson, he dubs you got.
Speaker 7 (23:31):
Me, Yeah, I'm here, Okay, how you doing.
Speaker 8 (23:33):
Good morning, good deal, Good morning. I was praising your work.
Congratulations to you another training camp, preseason roster cut down day.
You did an excellent job, not just with the Texans,
but with the rest of the league as well. At
Aaron Wilson underscore NFL What stood out to you the most?
Speaker 7 (23:49):
You know, they kept a lot of running backs and
wide receivers. I think that was the most interesting. Cutting
Norah Brown ultimately just a product of him continuing to
have shoulderish shoes not being available. Availability is a big deal,
and there are other receivers that are practicing and playing
every day and producing. He's a very tough player, you know,
(24:09):
had a lot of production, but he does get dinged
a lot. I mean, among the injuries, he had a
torn labor him to in last season. He had a
situation with his shoulder, a new one this preseason, and
he had a transverse process fracture in his back last
year and among other injuries. So just someone consistently gets dinged.
So that was why that happened. And then you look
(24:32):
at the wide receiver room it's seven. Now is it
going to stay that way? You know, are they going
to make more moves? I think, like Nick and Serrus said,
are pretty well this morning. But the FWOTY three man
roster right now is the initial one kind of written
in pencil, and they'll make some changes. They'll look for
it the line depth, they'll look at a few things.
(24:52):
Practice squad of course will be today. I don't know
they'll be a big team on waivers or not. But
they're not ranking real high in the priority order. Panthers
are first, So yeah, I thought it was a good
cut day. Unfortunately, they have a couple of guys that
can't play right now, like Christian harris Key guys. Christian
is still sideline with the cast. They did a short
term into reserve. Probably the best thing for him for
(25:13):
the long length of the season, but you know, tough
to not have him for the whole first.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
Month, Aaron.
Speaker 9 (25:20):
With keeping British Brooks, it just it's screaming to me
like they didn't want to They didn't want to risk
cutting this guy, trying to stash him on the practice
squad that somebody may come and grab him. But in
cutting both full backs, I mean, is this legitimate? You
think that they will utilize British Brooks as as the
primary fullback, mixed in with maybe Stover and you know
(25:40):
some of the tight ends is kind of the h
back roll or what's the thought process there.
Speaker 7 (25:45):
They're going to look at him and see if they
feel like he can be, you know, a lead blocker.
I think it's going to be a collective, not just
one guy. It's like those guys you mentioned Bill all
play some football and you know, be out there blocking
for Joe Mixon and I think that they need everybody.
But they've done that before. And it wasn't like Beck
(26:06):
was an old school, like bad breath stop fullback. He
was a pass catcher, he was deble to do some things.
He ran back a kickoff. So is he got dissimilar
from these taller tight end guys that also have some
pop and can position block and move a few guys
out of the way and maybe peel off and get
someone else. And Brever Jordan's a very athletic guy, cable
(26:28):
blocking more than one guy in the open field. I
think it's, you know, gonna work, but time's gonna tell.
I mean, Andrew was a very experienced fullback, but he
just like Noah, wasn't available. And mean, he's been out
with this calf the whole month. He practiced just a
couple of times before he hurt his calf again. And
(26:50):
he was out talk.
Speaker 8 (26:52):
With Aar Wilson our Texans inside of here at seven
to ninety. Just a couple more minutes. He's live at
practice right now, first practice of the fifty three.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
Continuing to look at the defense.
Speaker 8 (27:02):
I don't think there are any surprises at that linebacker spot.
They kind of have what they have. Maybe Jamal Hill,
the rookie sixth round pick making the team might catch
some people's eye, but really in that secondary, there were
some folks that wonder if indeed Jeff Okuda he's been
banged up a lot this camp. Miles brian is someone
(27:23):
else that has been thought to be on the chopping block.
And then there's Chris Boyd, a special teamer. Many people
feel like he had a solid camp. Your thoughts just
on the back end of that defense, if you will.
Speaker 7 (27:34):
You know, they had to make a decision on Desmond
King and Miles Briant, and Miles is a lot more consistent.
Des must to punt Miles for the Patriots as possible.
Dez could be back for practice squad, but no firm
commitment on that if that's going to happen yet. But
I think they had to make a decision on hell
(27:55):
like CJ. Henderson had an ankle at you know, some
inconsistencies in practic this, and you know Kuda is when
they have a bigger investment in He's also this is
his first practice back, so hopefully his hip is fully
healed and he can stay out there and be the
third corner like the Shack Griffin ball from last year.
(28:15):
And you know, normally that guy doesn't play much. They
just keep the corners, the outside corners in the field
the whole time if they're healthy. With Tomorrow Lasher and
during Stingley Junior. I look at the secondary and you know,
I don't think it was a ton of surprises. I
thought there were gonna be a few more for Frank
Ross's special teams. Lonnie Johnson Junior is someone that's good
on special teams. But ultimately, you know, you look at
(28:37):
the moves and I thought it was fairly logical. In
the secondary linebacker, you know, Jamal Hill's a talented guy.
He would have gotten claimed by someone else. He runs
a four to four to one. He's a pretty good
developmental prospect and someone that they want to keep working with.
I don't know how much he'll play right away, but
I think they've got you know, you kind of have
(28:57):
a balance between big picture development and just trying to
feel the competitive team. There were some other spots, you know,
I thought wide receiver was probably the most interesting where
you know, Robert Woods at one point people were talking
about his contract. When that was they decided, you know,
just to carry the money and that they could afford it.
(29:19):
They have enough catch space to do that, so they
did and gives them some quality depth kind of a
mentor type. But I look at the whole roster and
it was a tough roster to make, you know, lots
tougher than last year. And I think the decisions took
longer because they had more to consider and you know,
a lot of strategy involved. But I think they did
(29:41):
the best they could with trying to cut these guys
and make some decisions and kind of kind of a
balancing act. I kind of wonder if one of the
reasons they didn't have more pure special teamers like a
Mike Ford who are signed here to do that now
he's going to the Browns practice squad was because the
kickoff doesn't look like it's going to be as relevant
to play now and I think a lot of people
(30:01):
are going to kick it out of the end zone.
So do you necessarily have to have you know, a
stud on every position when you're talking about the kickoff
and the punt team maybe not.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
Interesting.
Speaker 8 (30:16):
So we know you got to get back to it, Gord,
unless you have something quick for Aaron.
Speaker 9 (30:20):
Guys, really quick, Aaron, is there do you think there's
any position they want to with all these guys hitting
the waiver wire, like, is there a guy there a
position they still want to grab somebody or you think
this is kind of it.
Speaker 7 (30:31):
Nick said today after the podium session ended that defensive
line is somewhere where the depth that they have might
be coming from somewhere else. So that's the possibility that
they would look at that. I mentioned special teams. Zeke
Turner is someone that's under consideration. He has a lot
of options from teams for special teams, but maybe for
(30:52):
the practice squad. But yeah, I could see him looking
for a defensive tackle in particular.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
I Aaron will let you go on that one.
Speaker 7 (31:01):
Brother.
Speaker 8 (31:01):
We appreciate your working over there, and the roster is
not done. Initial fifty three is out. We'll continue refreshing
your account on social media at Aaron Wilson underscore NFL.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
We appreciate it, Bubba, we'll catch on the side.
Speaker 7 (31:15):
Thanks guys, great to though.
Speaker 8 (31:17):
Always appreciate Aaron Wilson finding time to chop it up
with us about the fifty three man roster. Gordy got
astro tonight, but it's a holiday weekend. Texas won't be
back for a week or so. A couple of weeks,
I should say, won't stop people from moving around.

Next self continues, it was not having next Okay, Here's
stat or Fleet ten. Chris Gordy, it's not having next okay?
What Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 8 (32:21):
Thanks to the great Aaron Wilson who joined us here.
Next up live from Texans practice, we will hear from
Demico Ryans in know about fifty minutes, give it take
a little bit less. After the first practice with the
fifty three man roster being out there stand nor Fleet.
Chris Gordy live from the Sports Talk seven ninety studios
(32:42):
again wrapping up our one. We'll hear from the great
Omar vist Scale he'll drop by. Let's talk some more Astros,
some more al standings. Where did the Astros find themselves
in the pathway to win another American League West title?
If you will, Let's finish the conversation and wrap up
here regarding the Texans gents, and I think that good
(33:07):
stuff there from Aaron. A lot of receivers, a lot
of running backs. What will they do with this third
quarterback situation? Who will that be? We know it won't
be Case Kingdom. Unfortunately, he's banged up, speaking of be
speak speaking of being banged up, Gordon. That's where I
have some concern about the Texans defense. Christian has is
(33:28):
gonna miss the first four games on the IR designated
to return minimum of four games. He must miss the
same for Kurt Heiniz. We know that Deniko Autrey one
of the quiet off season acquisitions because we spend so
much time talking about Steph Diggs and Daniel Hunter and
Joe Mixon de Nika Archery we know suspended the first
(33:49):
six games. Those are three, certainly two key contributors and
a third rotational player. And when you combine Kurt Heinis
me and in the rotation, Jerry Hughes has miss snaps
during the training camp in preseason due to injury, as
as Mario Edwards junior Tim settled.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
I don't think practice all camp so like this.
Speaker 8 (34:12):
Not only are the numbers, then the dudes that are
out there are long in the tooth and they're battling injuries.
I have grown concerned about the defensive line and the
health as well as the lineback and core.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 9 (34:29):
That's been a concern for me. All you know, all
off season has been the interior, the defensive line. But now, yeah, man,
that are better be damn good. He'sames because if not,
you know what my moo is. If I'm the again,
you play Jonathan freaking Taylor Week one, I am looking
at that film, I'm looking at the scouting report, going
(34:50):
we are going I sew up the middle, Oh boom.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
Five yards here, six yards there.
Speaker 9 (34:58):
I mean, it's it's gonna get to a point where
we're gonna see how physical this team could be on
the interior.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
Now that could be wrong.
Speaker 9 (35:05):
Maybe fully thought fought a COWSI and you know Tim
Settle gets in there and those guys are clogging up
the middle, or it was just a loss of one here,
gain of one there. You're going, all right, they're there
sound But to me, you know, I look at this team.
You know, I thought maybe secondary was gonna be my
my biggest concern. But all sides say Kamari Laster has
been great, and what they say, I haven't seen it,
(35:26):
but that's what they say. You know, we expect. Uh,
we'll see what how they start, Kaylen, you know is
Kaylen Bullocks started free safety with Petrie starting to nickel.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
We'll see how they line up.
Speaker 9 (35:35):
But like I I'm not as concerned about the secondary
as much as I am the interior, that D line
and linebackers.
Speaker 8 (35:42):
I mean, you look at this like and Demiko said
Henry Tote was gonna go in there, Like they have
confidence that Henry who essentially made the calls on the
Atlabama defense two years ago, Like Henry Totd, his superpower
is being cerebral. So if he's got to set the
defense and make the calls in absence of asease. Now,
(36:06):
Neville Hewitt, I understand there was a time with the
New York Jets that he was in every down linebacker
or certainly an early downbacker. To the point, do you
have confidence if you're playing a heavy run team and
putting Neville Hewitt in alongsize Aziz al Shia and putting
Henry Totoe at the sam linebacker and those are your
three and you just gone, I mean, old school smash mouth, Yeah,
(36:29):
you could do that. Jake Hanson is playing will linebacker
for this team. Jake Henson has two career starts too,
his rookie season as an undrafted selection out of the
University Illinois. I believe so there's not a lot of
experience and there's not a lot of depth in this
linebacking corps. I'm nervous on the back end, I feel, Okay,
(36:52):
A lot of dudes back there have played a lot
of ball. Petrie Miles, Bryant, Okudah, Eric Murray, MJ. Stewart, course,
Jimmy Ward Stingley, a lot of guys playing a lot
of ball back there. I think if they're going to
add someone, and that's why I bring it around to
say this where the Texans find themselves in the priorities
(37:13):
selection list claiming somebody off waivers. They're twenty seventh in
the NFL out of thirty two teams. So what is
that five teams? Five teams? Only five teams have a
worse opportunity to sign somebody than the Texans do. That
tells me then that Caserio is gonna go have to
just sign veterans outright off the street. And then what
(37:38):
position groups are they going to be? We know it's
not wide receiver. We know it's probably not running back,
so D line linebacker, probably not secondary, D line linebacker,
and offensive line. What areas would you assume they would
sign someone or presume they would sign to.
Speaker 9 (37:56):
I mean what Aaron said, he said Nick Cassario basically
said that's the defensive arn if they could add somebody
from the outside that they would do it. I mean,
I said, Daniel Hunter and Will Anderson with archery being suspended.
I look at the rest of that group and one like,
how many of those guys would start for other NFL teams.
(38:16):
I think on good NFL teams, ideally most of these
guys are rotational pieces.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
I would agree.
Speaker 8 (38:23):
I would say Barnett is probably the best excluding Deniko Archery.
Derek Barnett would probably be the one. Like could you
get away in Cleveland when you got Miles Garrett on
one end, could you put Dereck Barnett on the other
end and get away with it? Probably, but it'd be
I mean it be close, just giving his age and
(38:44):
the attrition on the body that he has gone through
and where his skill set is at this point. We
will come back to the NFL later because there are
some things around the National Football League that we need
to peak at as well. Gordy, I asked you, when
you think about the twenty four Texans and looking at
and I keep saying the word and I'm harping going
it the initial fifty three main are you as bullish
(39:06):
on this team this season? Now that we see the
finished product, I don't want to say that the initial
phase of the finished product, you still feel the same way.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
About their record looking at the actual position, I mean,
they were there.
Speaker 9 (39:19):
They're a playoff roster with some with some at least
apparent weaknesses, but that's all gonna figure itself out when
we get into the season and they start playing football.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
My concerns about the E line. Like I said, we'll
see it in action.
Speaker 9 (39:33):
They may be better than I'm giving them credit for,
and that'd be great, so you know, but but if
they go out there and Jonathan Taylor runs for one
hundred and fifty yards on them Week one and they lose, yeah,
we're gonna feel very different about this team. But I
think right now, just on paper the roster, I think
it's pretty damned that's a playoff team.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
As a super team, I don't know. We'll find out.
Speaker 9 (39:54):
Again, Like for to be a super Bowl team, guys
are gonna have to play you above your head and
you know, we back at the end of the year
and go, god, Aziz here leads the NFL tackles or
we saw last year Derek Single leads the league interceptions,
Like you're gonna need stuff like that to happen.
Speaker 8 (40:08):
Derrick Stingley best career of his year, best career of
his pro career last year. Same for Blake Cashman, same
for Jonathan Garnard. Like you just saw, we saw the
best version of Christian Harris. You just went boom boom,
boom boom. And I'm saying specifically defensively, dudes were just
out of their minds, and it's like, Okay, can Domico
(40:31):
go do that again? If there was anybody I'd be
willing to bet on the secret sauce, it would be
Demiko Ryans to be able to do something sprinkle that
pixie dust to get those guys on that end or
that side of the ball to go play real quick. Gordon,
for you tell the people what you want them to
do this weekend, starting tonight if you will. Four time
Pro good lord, four time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin
(40:53):
Cook is signing with the Cowboys. That was news that
broke early this morning. So the Cowboys likely will not
be starting Ezekiel Elliott at running back.
Speaker 9 (41:02):
Gordon, who's more washed Dalvin Cook or kelling donvind Cook?
Speaker 8 (41:06):
I thought that was gonna work with the Jets last year.
It just did not look good and he was nicknamed
by the way Tom Pelsaro relaxed. Bro.
Speaker 9 (41:13):
He's his tweets yesterday, this is one of the great
running back. I wanted to go, Bro, how much did
his agent pay you to tweet this out? It's like,
let's not some of these guys. I do think it's
underrated his career. He was awesome in Minnesota. But since
then we's not being good. So let's see if something's
still there.
Speaker 8 (41:30):
All right, Astros for some afternoon baseball today, Texans practicing
right now. We get some college games coming up tomorrow, Gordion. Uh,
people are gonna need a refreshment.
Speaker 1 (41:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (41:41):
And by the way, this is so exciting over a
Carbot burring. Of course, we tell you guys all the
time to drink the Crawford Bak while you're watching Astros baseball.
Pairs perfectly with Astros baseball. But you know what pairs
perfectly with the start of football season. How about a
pizza and a pint over a Carbock. Tomorrow is going
to be the epic opening weekend of Carbox Pizza and Pikes.
(42:01):
Starting Thursday, They're gonna be giving away prizes, giveaways all
weekend long, and one lucky winner is gonna score free
pizza for a whole year. You don't want to miss
out on the biggest pizza party of the year. It's
pizza and pints. It is on the grounds. They're at
Carbock Brewing. You got the restaurant on one side, you
got the beer garden in the middle, you get the
store all over here, right next to the store is
(42:22):
the new Pizza Pits again, grand opening tomorrow and they
are gonna be open from eleven am to nine pm
Thursday through Saturday, eleven to six on Sundays. Perfect spot
to pull up the barstool, watch some Astros baseball, watch
some football, and enjoy an ice cold Crawford Bach along
with a steaming hot pizza.
Speaker 1 (42:43):
Right there at Pizza and Pikes over there at Carbock Burn.
Go check them out. Now, what's next?
Speaker 2 (42:50):
Next steps?
Speaker 3 (42:51):
It's the man, next.
Speaker 12 (42:53):
Step, the next step, Take the next step.
Speaker 6 (42:55):
Next step, next stop, next, next stop?
Speaker 13 (42:58):
This sea.
Speaker 6 (43:01):
This is next up with Tad Northfleeten Chris Gordy.
Speaker 13 (43:06):
Let's see what's next next saxt bet.
Speaker 8 (43:10):
Let's kick off the second half final hour of the
show here on Sports Talk seven ninety Thanks to everybody
that's listening. Pre set number one in your automobiles and
the best city in the country, Houston, Texas. Stand Northfleet Me.

hour of the show, go to Sports seven ninety dot
com or utilize the free iHeartRadio app at the conclusion
of this program and you can get caught up. We
started with Astros, who were in action last night. They
are now zero for two in this three game series
(43:52):
at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Continuing our Astros conversation
around the American League and the rest of the m
be Gordon, what say you welcome in our guy if
you listen to this show before old mar Vis Scale,
the great Cleveland Guardians Hall of Famer that he is. Man,
it's got over two decades in Major League Baseball. Even
(44:13):
more than that when you include his time or alongside
the bench their coaching guys up as a position coach
as well.
Speaker 1 (44:20):
Oh mar good morning to you. How you feeling?
Speaker 5 (44:23):
You more understand what's going on? Man?
Speaker 8 (44:25):
Well?
Speaker 1 (44:26):
What's going on?
Speaker 8 (44:26):
I wish the Astros could score some runs again. There
was a time it was Roland what do we waring, Gordon,
like twelve or fourteen, twelve or fifteen something like that.
The Astros have now lost six of eight, including a
good Phillies team up in their place over the last
couple of nights. What are your thoughts on what you've
seen from the Astros thus far and why there's so
(44:49):
sudden change.
Speaker 1 (44:50):
They used to be able to hit, not they can't
hit it anymore. What's going on?
Speaker 14 (44:55):
Well, everybody thinks that a baseball team should be hitting
all the times stand and this is one of the
problems that we face when we run into good teams.
Sometimes maybe we struggle with some injuries. And I think
that's what's happening right now. You know, Bregman is hitting,
uh is playing and it's a little hurt Georgia and
(45:16):
Albery is also have a.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
Little injury in his leg.
Speaker 14 (45:18):
That you know, there is some key players that hasn't
been able to play one hundred percent. And we have
seen this from the Astros for all these years. You know,
they have been playing with a lot of adversities. They
have been playing with injury. But at the end of
the day, I think they're getting the job done. Remember
that this team has the best record every since May.
Speaker 5 (45:39):
You know, they have been playing very good baseball.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
They have been moving.
Speaker 5 (45:44):
A lot of pieces and the pitching staff.
Speaker 14 (45:46):
The I think we have to give a lot of
credit to Jorge Batta, who has been chasing after guys
that are not maybe performing one hundred percent, and they
have been putting people out there that has been doing
really good. You know, I'm surprised that the Astros are
(46:07):
where they are right now. They has been playing, like
I said, with a lot of injuries, and they has
been doing a great job to keeping the team up there.
Speaker 9 (46:16):
It's interesting, Omar, we get to this stretch of the
season and calendar is about to turn to September, and
it's a fine line, right.
Speaker 1 (46:23):
I mean, you want to maintain that lead.
Speaker 9 (46:25):
In the division, but you also want to keep guys healthy.
I mean, the other night they gave Josel Tive a
full night off. Talk about you as a player, I
mean the wear and tear of a season like this
is the time of the year where it really starts
to take a toll on you. Bregnant's got something wrong
with his elbow, but he's playing through it. I mean,
you kind of have to be a Joe Spott. It's
a fine line between balancing health but also you got
(46:48):
to be competitior I still wrack up wins.
Speaker 5 (46:51):
Have to listen to your players. To stan I think
you know when.
Speaker 14 (46:58):
They they're not you can read their body, their their
corporal movement.
Speaker 13 (47:04):
Uh.
Speaker 14 (47:05):
You know, sometimes players are not gonna come to you
and say, hey, I need a day off.
Speaker 5 (47:09):
You have to really read what's going on with them.
Speaker 14 (47:12):
You know your players one hundred percent, and I think
that is very important.
Speaker 1 (47:18):
You know.
Speaker 14 (47:18):
On the positive note, I think that we have seen
guys like Justin Merlander is coming back, he's back with
the team.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
There are new.
Speaker 14 (47:27):
Guys and the team Puchi who has been throwing the
good Arrighetti, who is you know another guy that that
is throwing well. Uh, you know we're not gonna say
that he's gonna be a very a key pitcher at
the end, but you know it's it's a good arm,
you know.
Speaker 5 (47:44):
And they're they're testing this guy with really good teams right.
Speaker 14 (47:48):
Now, and it is important for them to know if
is if these guys are really ready to go to
a playoff or to a word series.
Speaker 5 (47:57):
And then you can count with them.
Speaker 14 (47:59):
I think that I feel optimistic about you know, the
addition that there has been putting out there and now
they get a guy from the Mets you know, gamble,
this is another guy that they're testing to see what's
going on.
Speaker 5 (48:14):
And I don't know what happened to Jason Hayward. You know,
I don't know if it's finally you know, if he's
gonna play a little bit or or you know, what's happening.
But this is a veteran guy that can help out
a little bit too.
Speaker 14 (48:28):
So you know, they're trying different combinations to see what's
happening and what's really feeding in their team.
Speaker 8 (48:34):
Talking with the great Omar Viscale again Cleveland Guardians Hall
of Famer brother man the shortstop quite sometime over two decades,
knows his Major League Baseball and the game at large,
no doubt about that. We'll hear about what he's doing
in his native Venezuela here in just a bit. And
thinking about where the Astros are right now, Oh, my
(48:55):
big picture, we know we got game three here some
afternoon baseball coming up at three o'clock. I do believe
Astros seventy and sixty two on the season, still three
and a half games ahead of the Mariners in the West.
When you start thinking about how this al stacks up,
where do you have the Astros in the pecking order
(49:15):
right now. Looking at this, like I said, the layout
of the rest of the league, I.
Speaker 5 (49:23):
Think we have to really.
Speaker 14 (49:26):
Think that the Astros are one of those teams that
you have to beat. They are the veteran team. They
know how to win these games by one run. Like
I said, the great combination of veteran players with the
young guys I think is very very good.
Speaker 5 (49:43):
And you know, like I said, these new guys that
they're bringing in little by little is.
Speaker 14 (49:48):
Gonna give them an answer to see where they can
use these guys in different situations. I think they're sitting
well right now. I don't believe the Seattle Mariners are
gonna hold on and they're gonna start winning games.
Speaker 3 (50:03):
They just have a new manager.
Speaker 14 (50:05):
They're going through a lot of tough decisions in that team,
and I think they just just taking it easy right now.
The Astros are are comfortable first place, I think, and
like I said, they just giving their veteran guys a
little rest here and there so they can just go
one hundred.
Speaker 1 (50:23):
Percent when when when the bell ring.
Speaker 14 (50:26):
But there is no doubt that the Astros is one
team that you have to think or you have to
believe that they're gonna be in the War Series.
Speaker 9 (50:34):
Give a quick thought in your Cleveland Guardians, omar, because
that's a that's a team the askers are going to
see here very soon. We finished the season up there
in Cleveland, and it's very well, you know, a team
that you could end up seeing in the postseason, and
the Royals just caught them in the standings. Asters about
to see the Royals too. But uh, it's funny every
time I ask people about the Guardians, they say, I
just don't know, but you look at them and they
(50:55):
got seventy five wins or one of the best teams
in baseball. But uh, it's just gonna be interesting when
the askers meet that team because there's gonna be a
lot on the line, and who knows, very well may
be the difference between a Wald card spot and maybe
getting a buy. We'll see where they are when the
when the standings come. But just your thought on this
Cleveland team.
Speaker 5 (51:12):
Well, yeah, the Cleveland team is a different story.
Speaker 14 (51:15):
You know, they have been going through a lot of
tough uh days, They're they're being they have they haven't
been playing really good baseball and now.
Speaker 5 (51:25):
They're Kansas City roy You have a hot streak.
Speaker 14 (51:27):
But I always said the most important month of the
season is coming up because you know this, this is
the month in the season when.
Speaker 5 (51:36):
When you you know where you standing.
Speaker 14 (51:40):
And I think the Guardians have a lot of questions
right now. And they're pitching and the guys that they're
using on the mound, you know, they're not scoring runs.
You know they're they're going through a tough place and
uh and they have.
Speaker 5 (51:53):
A team two teams right behind them, the Twins.
Speaker 14 (51:56):
Also they're pretty close from them, who are there just
way for them to slip a little bit so they
can take over.
Speaker 5 (52:03):
So you know, there is a lot of tough decisions
on that team. They have to start playing better baseball.
But you know, it's a team that has some.
Speaker 14 (52:11):
Very good bullpen and when you have a good bullpen,
I think that you can count with them. So it's
gonna be interesting. The last month is gonna be really exciting.
We have to see what they bring on this next series.
Speaker 8 (52:26):
All right, o, Mar, we will get you out of
here on this one. By the way, not only is
a great ball player, he's also a Houston resident. But
that passport is fully decorated. Oh Mar, your native Venezuela.
What you got going on, man, I hear you've been
out in the community, both in Venezuela and in Cleveland
there with the Guardians.
Speaker 5 (52:44):
Yes, I just came back from Venezuela.
Speaker 14 (52:46):
I was doing a lot of baseball clinics, you know,
speaking with a new generation of kids coming up about
different things, issues that happen in baseball, or how the
projections are and how much you have to pay attention
to the little details in order for you to make
it to the big leagues.
Speaker 8 (53:04):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (53:04):
You know, we did a great job.
Speaker 14 (53:07):
The summer league in Venezuela just ended, and we have
that connection with.
Speaker 1 (53:11):
The with the little guys, with the.
Speaker 14 (53:12):
Little leagues, and it was amazing you just seeing the
worst seriously, the league that just ended. To you know,
it reminds me a lot on my days when I
was growing up in Venezuela, and I think it was
very positive, the fact that we need we speak with
the new generation the kids and let him know the
good things, the good values of.
Speaker 5 (53:33):
Being a baseball player and all that. So it was great.
And thanks Stan for asking me that question.
Speaker 8 (53:38):
No doubt about it. Follow him, won't you again? Houston resident,
All time great baseball Man Cleveland Guardians Hall of Fame,
go to how many players?
Speaker 1 (53:48):
How many? Three times? Go low? What is it?
Speaker 8 (53:50):
Eleven gold gloves and three All Star games? Is that
what it is? Man got a bleek ton of gold gloves.
He knows how to play the game. Follow him, won't you?
At this scale? V I z qu e l Omar
m A R one three this scale Omar thirteen. Brother,
we appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (54:07):
Man.
Speaker 8 (54:07):
Glad you made it back to Agetown safely. Look forward
to having you on again.
Speaker 5 (54:12):
Thank you time. I appreciate it all.
Speaker 1 (54:13):
Right, brother, be well.
Speaker 8 (54:15):
Omar's probably living it up somewhere in the woodlands.
Speaker 1 (54:19):
My heats might be a Siana plantation guy.
Speaker 8 (54:22):
Wherever you are in the city of Houston and your
residential needs, whether you got banked like Omar, or you
got a budget to play around with a little bit.
Maybe you want to build that dream home, or maybe
you want to get the starter homegoing. Perhaps it's a
commercial construction project that you have in mind. Allow me
to recommend JB. Thibodeauxhomes and Properties. They are not your
average home builder. They're blueprints designed to save you both
(54:44):
time and money. Wherever you are in the city, moving
up northup forty five if you will, or going let's
go out west headed towards the high Country. They do
projects out there as well. Third generation builder James is
and I actually respect the way that they go a
out their businesses. Not just about bottom line dollars for them.
They care about you as an individual, what you're trying
(55:06):
to accomplish, what this priority is for your family. We
know that the home is likely the greatest investment you'll
make in your lifetime. Go to JB. Thibodeau dot com
for more information. That's Jbthibodeau dot com. Again. They will
bring your real estate vision to reality.
Speaker 4 (55:25):
Touchdown Texas Coach Stark here you're next up with Stan
Northfleet and Chris Gordy of Sports Talk seven to ninety,
Houston's home of Longhort Football.
Speaker 1 (55:35):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 8 (55:38):
Appreciate Omar Viz scale Houston resident, longtime baseball man, joining
the show. Drops by about once a month hang out
with me and Gordy talk from Strolls. He still still
believes the Strolls are gonna get there and take the
Al West. Yet again, I'm still maintaining hope as well.
Gordy as the Sierra. The Manners are not playing good
(55:59):
base ball right now. They have closed the gap. Strolls
remain three and a half games in the league. Schedule
continues to be competitive for the Strolls. It's gonna lighten
up for Seattle here in just a little bit. So
we'll see if the bats come alive for the Astros
as they make their way after today back home the
Minute May Parks starting tomorrow, four game series through the
(56:20):
weekend versus the Royals. Let's do this, speaking of the Strolls,
gordre as you know, Dana Brown drops by the Sean
Salisbury Show every Wednesday morning at nine to thirty for
his weekly Let's see if I can do two gms
in one segment. Let's start from uh, Let's see Casario
win at nine am to the media locally, and then
(56:41):
Dana joined us here at nine thirty. Justin Verlander roughed
up a bit last night. A pitch got away from
him and was a three run shot by Castianos, and
four innings, excuse me, four runs in the third inning
ultimately did the Astros in. And it was that thing
of you know, zero for five with runners of scoring
position and what gord I think left eight men on.
Speaker 1 (57:04):
Is that right?
Speaker 8 (57:06):
Let's ask Dana what he saw in Verlander's performance to start,
and then we'll get into the juicy stuff about moving
forward and what he sees for the team.
Speaker 1 (57:15):
Dana Brown on JV.
Speaker 3 (57:16):
Yeah, I would say, you know, the first outing was
a little better than the second one. The second one
he made one bad pitch that was the breaking ball
that Castiano's hit out. But overall, he showed the arm strength,
the ability to execute his secondary stuff at times, and
(57:37):
so you know, ultimately, I'm very pleased that he's back
and he's starting to really fill it.
Speaker 8 (57:45):
When asked about those runners left and scoring position and
the lack of runs being scored yesterday last night in Philly,
Dana Brown little lengthy, but let me hear what he has.
Speaker 1 (57:56):
To say here.
Speaker 3 (57:57):
Yeah, I just think our guys, you know, we hit
this downward slope over the last few games. You know,
we we haven't been able to really come through with
the big hits, and so I mean, ultimately, I like
where our guys are in terms of, Look, we've fought
through this, We've shown grit. You know, we've got gamers
(58:19):
on this team, but you know, this road trip. We
haven't been able to get the big hit, you know,
and put some runs on the board, and so you know,
that little struggle has cost us a couple of games.
But you know, ultimately we're still three and a half
up with thirty to go, and you know, the boys
are playing well. You know, we did hit a bump
(58:42):
there offensively, and we hit a little bit of a
bump defensively as well. But ultimately, I'm very proud of
the guys. These guys are grinding through it and it's
a long season, and you know, I think we're in
a good spot.
Speaker 8 (58:58):
I appreciate Jona Manja data around courtesy to Shawn Salisbury Show.
For his weekly Gordy Dana Brown says, don't worry about it.
We had a little bit of a low lack of
run production. Don't worry about it. Be okay, you buy
it well.
Speaker 9 (59:11):
To me, the most intriguing thing he talked about was
again like and it's the biggest question we wonder what
this team and are they going to get back on track?
Is when the hell's Kyle Tucker coming back? And Joe
Spotta was all with Matt Thomas yesterday. He said he's
doing some running and it was sprinting, as he said,
but he said he's still about fifty sixty percent sprinting.
(59:32):
And so there's been this timeline that Dana Brown has
been stuck on with when he's coming back, and the
whole thing has been early early September, early September, first
week of September, and it's like we're literally about to
turn the calendar. So Sean asked Dana this morning, gave
him a chance to hey, you know, Dana, it is September,
and Dana still stood by, you know, yeah, somewhere in
(59:56):
the first ten days of September.
Speaker 1 (59:57):
It's like, all right, dude, well it's here.
Speaker 9 (01:00:00):
So it's it's interesting because they come back what after
the this this weekend, right the starting.
Speaker 8 (01:00:08):
So after tonight, after this afternoon, they come back Kansas
City tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
Sorrow, the weekend. I mean, this thing is going to
have for this to happen.
Speaker 9 (01:00:16):
Tomorrow when they get home against Kansas City pregame tomorrow
around two three o'clock, we better see Kyle Tucker out
there running the bases. And if Kyle Tucker's out there
running the bases and doing some things, then I would
expect him to quote unquote ramp up and maybe by
the end of next week we're talking or middle of
next week, we're talking about Kyle Tucker going on a
rehab assignment, and then we're talking about two weeks Kyle Tucker. Okay,
(01:00:40):
he's good, He's he's close to rejoining the Big Blue Club.
Like that's the timeline. They keep leading us on a
spot on Dana brown Yet it's like moving target.
Speaker 8 (01:00:49):
He's not even running full speed yet. And this came
out yesterday. Uh, and as just said, when it was
an it was who was it? Brian mctagger had it
of melb dot com covering the Astros that the Astros
are interested in signing Jason Heyward. Uh, yeah, that Jason Heywood.
You know j Hay has only made one All Star
(01:01:10):
Game in what fifteen years in the Major?
Speaker 1 (01:01:13):
Is crazy?
Speaker 8 (01:01:14):
Uh, he is a gold Glover on this Bilt as
Reel has been an All Star at once. That I
that I mentioned before, the outfield numbers, the slash line
for the Astros outfield has not been great. J Hay
hadn't been great either. Dana brownin asked about the strengths
that free agent Jason Heyward would bring to Houston if
(01:01:35):
indeed the contract is signed. Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:01:37):
Haymark, you know, he's had a long time career. He
executed well last year. You know, GISA this year versus Righty,
and so ultimately, you know, a guy like Hayward, he's
got talent still and then and not to mention the
postseason experience and things like that, all right.
Speaker 8 (01:02:00):
He would say in that interview, would Dana Brown with
Shawn Salisbury that he could not comment in any more
detail on the signing of Jason Away, correct, because it's
not official.
Speaker 1 (01:02:11):
At this point.
Speaker 8 (01:02:12):
Real quick, before we go to Tony and Sugarland and
wrap up this segment, are you how are you feeling
about Jason Haywood Straws.
Speaker 9 (01:02:18):
They need dudes who can hit and driving runs. I
mean that's where we are. And Chas McCormick, you suck.
You're not getting it done. Jake Myers, average, Kyle Tucker's
been out. I mean they're they're grasping a Ben gamble.
Look he's been he's had a couple moments ago. But
like that's what you need. We need anybody give us moments.
We need anybody can do anything. Shay Woodcombe wouldn't even
(01:02:39):
be here on this roster, is that the Zenzo wouldn't
even be here on this roster. They're grabbing it anything
they can because the dudes who are supposed to do
their job are not doing their jobs, and so it's
it's compounded with injuries on top of dudes not producing.
Speaker 1 (01:02:53):
Yeah, I mean, somebody text me yesterday, Jason Anyward. He's washed. Dude.
They're desperate.
Speaker 9 (01:02:58):
They're trying anything, literally grabbing anybody off the street and saying,
can you can you play baseball?
Speaker 1 (01:03:03):
Can you drive in runners?
Speaker 8 (01:03:04):
Jason Haywitt, thirty five years old, played in sixty three
games for the Dodgers this year. Over that span of
one hundred and ninety seven played appearances, his slash line
two oh eight two eighty nine three ninety three with
a below average ninety one ops plus six home runs
for stolen bases, Gold Glove winner five times, one time
(01:03:25):
All Star, a career ops however, of a d of
a good one point h two and I say good,
give us average.
Speaker 9 (01:03:32):
An up and down player in Atlanta when he first
got started, I mean he had some nice seasons, yeah,
and then he had what his third season, he struck
out one hundred and fifty two times.
Speaker 8 (01:03:41):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (01:03:41):
In twenty fifteen, he gets the Saint Louis has a
nice year, but it's been it's.
Speaker 1 (01:03:45):
Been rollercoaster, up and down, up and down.
Speaker 8 (01:03:48):
The term you said is desperate. Let's close out the segment.
Friend of the station, Friend of the show, been a while,
Tony and Sugarland wants to talk strolls on a Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (01:03:56):
Good morning, bro Fellas, what's been one down ahead?
Speaker 3 (01:04:04):
I love it.
Speaker 13 (01:04:04):
I love it. That's you know, I love it.
Speaker 12 (01:04:06):
If if it wasn't that, it wouldn't it wouldn't be
sports radios.
Speaker 1 (01:04:09):
Uhuh, seven nights.
Speaker 13 (01:04:12):
Ahead, Yeah, yeah, go ahead, seven nights Hey man, Hey listen,
we're real quickly with the strolls. This is and and
I don't mean to I don't mean to kick a
dead horse.
Speaker 12 (01:04:26):
But this is the reason why when people were up
sad as your boy uh uh uh, Dusty fo.
Speaker 13 (01:04:33):
Not playing Daz?
Speaker 12 (01:04:34):
Do you know that Daz is the is the worst,
is the worst capture. It's the worst catcher right now
and in getting calls, you know what I mean, he's
the worst catcher right now.
Speaker 7 (01:04:44):
Man.
Speaker 12 (01:04:44):
That makes it, That makes a big difference, man, in
your defense, right but at the end of at the
end of the day, when we talked about grasping for straws,
I'm not worried about the strolls into the strolls and
not in it.
Speaker 3 (01:04:54):
Man, I'm ten.
Speaker 12 (01:04:55):
I'm ten toes down on the strolls. But those are
things that those small things with regards to your that
you're not being able to get those calls pint in
the play bro that's huge, that's huge, But at the
end of the day, it's a combination thing with that Astros.
I still think they're gonna win a division. I still
think they're gonna be broke. You know, they're gonna be
a problem in the playoffs because they're their strolls and
until they prove me differently, we'll see. But I gotta
(01:05:17):
ask you guys this question. I know, I don't know
if you guys gave you a predictions yet as relates
to the season for the Texans, I am twelve and
I am twelve, I am twelve games. So far as
it relates to the with the Texans that I know,
you know saying you are skeptical, You're skeptical when it
comes to the Texans and things that nature.
Speaker 1 (01:05:36):
What I mean I'm just saying you.
Speaker 8 (01:05:38):
Are not true. But go ahead, because we showed on time.
Get your question out and we'll answered on the other side.
Speaker 12 (01:05:48):
Question are you are you over and under all twelve wins?
And I'll hang up and listen.
Speaker 8 (01:05:52):
My man, Tony Sugarland. We will talk Texans. On the
other side. We may also hear from head coach Demiko Ryans,
who will address the media here in just a bit.
Tony and sugar Land open nose, eas up, Bro, We're
gonna go while I have receipts on how I feel
about the Texans. Real Texas talker. Listen the Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (01:06:11):
Who's got next?
Speaker 1 (01:06:14):
Here's the what's coming next?
Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
What do we do next?
Speaker 6 (01:06:18):
And who's gotta take it to the next level? Back
to Stanton Northfleets and Chris Gordy.
Speaker 1 (01:06:26):
This is next.
Speaker 6 (01:06:28):
Up by Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 8 (01:06:31):
Twenty four minutes and now you'll hear the voices of
Matt Thomas and Rossberry out of Matt Thomas Show. They'll
take you from noon till two, and then we have
some afternoon Astros baseball in Philly. We'll get Astros on
deck starting at two o'clock right here on seven ninety
and then shortly after three o'clock we'll get first pitch.
Speaker 1 (01:06:52):
Who we got Spence Aarraghetty's going? Who is that?
Speaker 8 (01:06:55):
Tejuan Walker yep, right handed, Taywa Walker of the Phillies.
Speaker 1 (01:07:00):
Tay One's number. So that's right.
Speaker 8 (01:07:01):
We don't like baseball numbers on this show. Can't talk
about numbers unless it's a stat that we like. Nom
thredays Ago one not at you because there's some folks
I'm arguing with on social about that. All right, so
we'll stay tuned throughout the Matt Thomas Show. It into
Astros Radio.
Speaker 9 (01:07:16):
SAT Matters zero runs yesterday. That's the staff that matters.
Were some damn runs Astros.
Speaker 1 (01:07:23):
All right.
Speaker 8 (01:07:23):
We heard from Dana Brown in the previous segment. Let's
hear from the other general manager that spoke today, Nick Caseario,
took to the podium nine am this morning and addressed
the media coming off of getting the roster set at
fifty three and notable Gordy. As we talked in the
first hour, seven wide receivers Steven Simms makes it as
(01:07:44):
the seventh receiver, best returner on the team. Four running backs,
no fullbacks make it likely an extended workload, some young
guys back there in the secondary. We know the rookies
Kaylen Bullock and Lasseter. We're going to make it. What
else did we see? Lineback and Core a little fan
the line a little fan and.
Speaker 1 (01:08:06):
We rolled from there? All right?
Speaker 8 (01:08:08):
Nick Cassario, Oh, the quarterbacks certainly got this. Emergency quarterback
is a conversation as well. Let's start there, Casario, tell
me about this thing with Case keenam Man, this emergency
quarterback rule. What were your thought process, specifically as it
pertains to Case Casario? Two?
Speaker 2 (01:08:25):
Please, No, Case has been a good players for this
organization for a long time. I mean, his leadership, his toughness,
is intelligent. So it's unfortunate that he's not going to
be able to play football this year. So I mean,
hopefully he's around the team and around the building. He
can be an asset to the team, to that room.
So a lot of respect and appreciation for Case what
(01:08:46):
he's done not only over the last year so a
year and change, but over the course of his career.
I mean talking about a guy that one drafted that's
basically made it I don't know, twelve thirteen years or whatever.
It's been so it's a credit to him. So it's unfortunate,
you know, difficult situation. I'm sure there's a lot of
motion involved. Relative. I don't want to speak for him,
but as far as what he does moving forward, ultimately
that's gonna be his choice. But I think whatever he
(01:09:07):
decides to do, he's gonna be really good at it.
Speaker 1 (01:09:10):
All right.
Speaker 8 (01:09:11):
So that's uh, the emercy quarterback situation. Only two quarterbacks
on the roster, Davis Mills is officially QB two. We
don't have to deal with that anymore. And then we'll
see what they do with the emercy QB rule going.
I don't think you would necessarily bother by that, but
it is surprised you once we saw because that's what
we heard first case goes to season ending, I are,
(01:09:32):
but then we see Tim Boyle gets cut.
Speaker 9 (01:09:34):
Did you think that was odd? Yeah, it's it just
seems weird. You know you're gonna go in this season presumably,
I mean right now with you know it's Stroud and
Davis Mills, and let's say Stroud tweaks something in practice
game next week preparing for Week one, I mean, then
you gotta hurry up and gain I mean, I got
(01:09:55):
who assume the easy fixes. You bring Tim Boyle, He's pray,
don't get picked up by somebody. I signed some then
you got to bring in somebody to catch them. Here's
the offense. Yeah, learn all these plays because then you're
one twist and ankle away from that guy having to
go in. So I don't know, I just it's it's
something I've talked about the last couple of years. I
don't have a ton of faith in Davis Mills. Obviously
(01:10:16):
they told you last year when they everybody assumed he
was good. You know, we started that Monday show under
the impression Davis Mills was starting, and by Tuesday or
Wednesday that week and leaked out, no case.
Speaker 1 (01:10:26):
Keenum is gonna start.
Speaker 9 (01:10:27):
It was like what, I just you know, it's it's
I talk about it because look at what's happened in
the league the last couple years. Stand we have had
a ton of starting quarterback injuries and it sucks.
Speaker 1 (01:10:37):
I don't waste that on CJ. Strodd.
Speaker 9 (01:10:39):
I don't even want to put out in the atmosphere,
But as it stands like it feels like your failure
to address that position has been like Istraudo goes down
the season's over other teams.
Speaker 1 (01:10:51):
Look at the Colts last year.
Speaker 9 (01:10:52):
They lost Anthony Richardson, Gardner Minshew kept them afloat almost
one of the day. They almost got into the playoffs
into week week eighteen. So I just it's it's a
position that if you don't address it.
Speaker 1 (01:11:05):
It can become a problem.
Speaker 8 (01:11:06):
The Browns who picked up Flacco last year off his
couch and want what played in I say almost one,
but they got blowed out by Texans. Joe Flacco saved
their keyster last year, so you've seen it. The Browns
have four quarterbacks on the roster right now, which is
wild all right. The wide receiver room, I thought Hutche
did a fantastic job, as did John Metchi this training camp.
(01:11:30):
Casario asked specifically about those two young wide receivers.
Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
I think what you saw with both players was an improvement.
Was they were available, they were on the field, and
they continded to get better, and they took advantage of
their opportunities. So I think hutch was probably one of
our most consistent, most dependable players from being a training
camp until the end, say MATCHI took advantage of his
opportunities there at different points. So, I mean it's all
you're looking for. Training camp is about putting the foundation
(01:11:54):
in place. Kind of the earlier question, what are we
trying to accomplish? Put the foundation in place, look for
individual visual improvement, look for a collective improvement, and that say,
those two players are good examples of that. Now, I
mean the hard work starts, so, I mean there's a
lot that went into it to get to this point.
But I mean not a hard work starts. And you know,
we'll see what are our options game day, what's the role?
How can we use them? I mean, those two players
(01:12:16):
are great kids. They work really hard, they care a
lot about football, and they've went out there and they've improved.
So we'll see where that goes from here.
Speaker 8 (01:12:22):
Lastly, as we wrap up this segment, Gordon four running
backs kept no fullbacks. Many people believe undrafted rookie free
agent out of North Carolina British Brooks, what is he?
Number forty four? I do believe he makes the roster
as the fourth running back along with cam Akers, Daria Gumblewale,
Damian Pierce is still here for now and Casario. What's
(01:12:47):
up with British Brooks and no fullbacks?
Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
Consistent, dependable, tough, good size, good playing strength, smart, can
handle multiple roles offensively in the kicking game. So I
mean British just shows up, say much and does his job,
which I mean more people like that we have around here,
better for everybody. So you know, he's earned his opportunity,
he's earned his way out of the team. We'll see
if he's able to stay on the team. But I
(01:13:10):
mean he's here for reasons. Credit the m's card of
the dB, you know, and the work that everybody has
put in with him.
Speaker 8 (01:13:17):
All right, Nick Casirio didn't really say much, but I
do think we owe it to share what our listeners
going to with the GM is saying a day after
setting the roster, and his work is not done. This
is the initial fifty three people he will add to,
not only filling out the practice squad, but I imagine
they will sky with a waiver wires and be looking
(01:13:38):
to at where they came.
Speaker 1 (01:13:39):
At least he didn't save the player a ton.
Speaker 8 (01:13:42):
Yeah, all right, let's come back, the head coach spoke
moments ago. Let's hear from Demiko Rans and then hand
the baton over to Matt Thomas and Rossberry. M the
legendary and the mighty KB and me.
Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
We are next up continues.
Speaker 6 (01:13:56):
On your computer. Listen to Sports Talks a night on
any device with our free iHeartRadio.
Speaker 8 (01:14:03):
Apps at stand Sportsman. He is at Chris Gordon. We're
at Sports Talk seven ninety for another ten minutes before
we get you to Matt Thomas and Ross Virrial. I
heard some cuts there from general manager Nick Caserio. We
play a lot of audio on this show. As you know,
I try and give you all as much direct from
the horse's mouth as I can, and on this particular day,
(01:14:26):
just a lot of folks talking Nick Caseio this morning,
Demiko after practice, Dana Brown joining Seawan. We had guests
already lined up thanks to Aaron Wilson as well as
Omarfis Scale dropping by next up to share their insight. Oh,
we did not address Gordy. Tony from sugar Land gave
us a shout talking about how we were talking about
(01:14:48):
British Brooks and Yo the running back spot, and Tony
said that I haven't been bullish on the Texans. I
want to damn bet with Matt Thomas last season, betting
that the Texans would have over According to Vegas and
I won. Guess what, I double down on it in
second year, Tony and sugar Land. I'm saying the Texans
(01:15:09):
on paper right now, I have them at ten and seven,
which ironically is the record from a year ago.
Speaker 1 (01:15:16):
I think they can do it again.
Speaker 8 (01:15:17):
Now when I look at this roster, do I see
some areas of concern? Of course I do? Are there
are some things to celebrate? Hell yeah, I think this
is a super Bowl caliber roster. This is the initial
fifty three. Casario's gotta go in there and go to work.
How will they utilize these practice squad elevations?
Speaker 9 (01:15:38):
But you keep saying that, how drastic do you think
this could change by week one?
Speaker 8 (01:15:42):
Like you're talking one or two guys by week one?
So okay, let's do the other under. I think the
Texans will add one player that will contribute, is not
currently on the roster active, that will be active week one.
That's a perfect way to say, if it's them, he's
gonna be one dude, because I mean, who are they
(01:16:05):
going to get that's gonna start for another running back?
Speaker 1 (01:16:08):
No, really don't need anymore those?
Speaker 8 (01:16:11):
All right? So, oh, Demiko heard me. I just saw
this from him. But I haven't heard it, Dimiko too, Coach.
One of my areas of concern this is me asking
a question from over here in the studio.
Speaker 1 (01:16:20):
Coach.
Speaker 8 (01:16:21):
One of my concerns that I have is that damn
linebacker room. It's with Christian Harris missing four games, being
designated to return off the EYR. You're out there with
Henry told Toad and Jake Hansen knowing that NFL teams
are gonna play in the nickel. It's a zz al
shire and just quite frankly, some Jags. Coach, tell me
about your linebacker room, Tomiko.
Speaker 1 (01:16:42):
Feel good about the linebacker room.
Speaker 13 (01:16:44):
Feel good?
Speaker 11 (01:16:45):
It's not about for me, it's never about one positions
about our defense collectively, like how do eleven guys fit together?
And that's what it's all about. Feel really good about
our defense where we are pulling for Christian to get
back bitch one.
Speaker 9 (01:17:01):
See that's the one he says he's comfortable, but like
that's his that's the Miko's position. I feel like for
him to be for him to say that he must
feel good about this group, like that's the one position
he specialized them.
Speaker 8 (01:17:14):
Without Christian Harris, he still feels good about there.
Speaker 1 (01:17:17):
I mean you got.
Speaker 9 (01:17:17):
You know, yeah, you obviously lose a little bit there,
but it's the next man up CFL you pull. I mean,
look at how many backups said to play last year
like you got. You gotta trust the guys you got,
And sounds like he trusts the guys he got.
Speaker 8 (01:17:30):
A lot of conversation. You just said it. British Brooks
makes this team as the fifth running back, not from
Great Britain. By the way, this is British Brooks, formerly
of the University of North Carolina.
Speaker 1 (01:17:40):
De Miko, what the hell you carry? Five runna backs?
Speaker 11 (01:17:43):
British is an example of what this league is about.
It doesn't matter where you drafted. It doesn't matter where
you come from, Like, if you can help our team
in any way.
Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
Like you'll earn a spot.
Speaker 11 (01:17:54):
And that's what he did. He earned a spot now,
nothing was handed to him, and that's what the league
is about. By It's about guys competing and earning spots
for our roster. And that's the example that British said
fourth for a lot of guys in this league have
made it as undrafted in a free agen. So it's
a credit to him and the work that he's put.
Speaker 8 (01:18:13):
In congratulations to British books and Demiko is right and
everything that he said.
Speaker 1 (01:18:18):
And I'm not going to overreact that.
Speaker 8 (01:18:21):
They kept five running backs because I consider British Brooks
the fourth excuse me, the first full back along with
sharing that low Wi Kate Stover, Brevin Jordan, so it'll
be a committee. I would rather have an actual fullback.
We know how important the fullback can be in that system.
Look at what they do with Kyle hughescheck in San
(01:18:41):
Francisco for example.
Speaker 9 (01:18:44):
Keep our eyes on that. I'm just looking to see
all the waiver claims. Just what they just announce. Houston
Tennessee Titans have claimed Ali Gay from the Houston Texans.
Speaker 8 (01:18:57):
The Titans, i think also grab no. The Carolina pa
Anths grabbed Lonnie Johnson. I know you were waiting for
him to return as he was released yesterday. So Oli Gay,
we thought that would be the fifth defensive end of
practice squad candidate could for him. He makes their fifty three.
He gets claimed. Did the Texas get anybody? No, that
Texans got nobody but just another name of no. Cody Schrader,
(01:19:19):
who was like the SEC and rushing last year at Missouri.
He was drafted by the San Francisco forty nine ers
like these Los Angeles Rams have grabbed him, so he's
now Rams running back. I'm sure Connor's excited about his
former Missouri Tiger head of them.
Speaker 1 (01:19:33):
Lolla, you gave to Tennessee. Come on, man.
Speaker 8 (01:19:35):
A lot of people, including I had conversation with the
Wide Receiver Room real quick on the way out. If
I could Connor Demiko as directly. Robert Woods is still
on this roster.
Speaker 11 (01:19:47):
Robert, he didn't fly on the radar to me. He's
been consistent haul throughout camp. He's been the same guy
he's been his entire career. Tough, dependable, smart guy you
can count on each and every day. Guy shows up,
work every day, works hard. He's a great mentor to
our younger guys. And Rob is a true leader you know,
of this team. So's he's been as consistent as he's
(01:20:10):
as he always been.
Speaker 2 (01:20:11):
So he didn't fly on the radar to me.
Speaker 8 (01:20:14):
Okay, Demiko, Ryan sounds pretty comfortable with the roster that
he and Nick Cassario that put together, and I'm taking
they will be one other edition that's actually going to
contribute and be a part of the forty eight man rosters.
What I think the NFL has it up to now
