Stan Norfleet and Chris Gordy of Next Up recap the Houston Texans losing to the Green Bay Packers 24-22 on Sunday at Lambeau Field. Brandon McManus made a 45-yard game-winning field goal in his Packers debut. Joe Mixon rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns, while C.J. Stroud recorded a career-low 86 yards and was sacked four times. While the defense and special teams created three turnovers, they were unable to stop the Packers when it mattered most. However, the offense only recorded a field goal in the second half. Who is to blame for the loss?

Speaker 4 (00:19):
Let's see what's next next next.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Here we go on.

Speaker 5 (00:24):
An overreaction, underreaction, proper reaction Monday line from the Sports
Talk seven ninety studios nestled in between Uptown Park and
river Oaks for the next two hours, this is next up.
If you're new to the station, new to the show,
or you happen to be returning, we appreciate all of you.
Thank you for making us your home in Houston. Sports
here at seven ninety show hosts. That'd be me staying

(00:48):
Northfleet find me on social at stand Sportsman to my
right and his usual perch, that's Chris Gordon. He's the
program director around here as well. What up cg You
can find him and go.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
To your other right.

Speaker 5 (01:00):
Well, he said, to my right, to my right, oh, sorry,
to my left, my American left. Forgive me for that.
As Chris Gordon, there's Comedy mcgoverny. He's ready to go.
Best week we've ever had this week and we say that,
because that's our goal. The Texans. However, week is off
to a band start. Texans go to Green Bay and
come up short. We know a walk off if you will,

(01:23):
for new kicker Brandon McManus and everything that came, the
baggage that came with him from Jacksonville and a flight
and all those things. Will may fill you in on
that a little bit later. Twenty four to twenty two.
Texans take an l up in Green Bay. There was, also, obviously, Gordon,
some college football over the weekend as the number one team,
and the land goes down the University of Texas at Austin. Obviously,

(01:47):
we'll go around the National Football League. Other things that happened.
There's a familiar face that has a seizing ending injury.
Guy used to roam these parts, used to be under
center around here. Kind of controversial in nature. We'll discuss
all of that more. We'll take a ton of phone
calls today, as we usually do. If you're new to
the bit overreaction, underreaction, proper reaction, whatever the theme is,

(02:11):
or something that stood out to you, a question, a
comment that you have about the game. Gordon and I
go back and forth and then we kind of check ourselves.
Are we overreacting, are we not giving people their credit?
Or do we have the appropriate level of reaction? All right, geez,
I'm gonna open this up by simply saying the score

(02:32):
that I had when we left Friday. I said twenty
four to twenty three Packers. So I was one point
off from a Texan standpoint back when twenty four to
twenty two.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
My initial reaction in watching.

Speaker 5 (02:47):
The game, it's it's kind of it's convoluted, But I
guess if I had to simplify the text, did the
majority of the things that it takes to win on
the row versus a team in your weight class? It

(03:08):
just to me, Gordy, the reason they lost. It's surprising
on one hand, but when you look at the twenty
twenty fourth season on the other, what has hurt this
team all year? Penalties? Will Anderson Jr. Penalty on the
final drive versus h Who is that Jodan Love he
gets the penalty. I think it's unnecessary roughness. I can't remember.

(03:30):
Maybe it was off side penalty by Will Anderson Jr.
Hurts This team can't score touchdowns in the second half
of ball games. Bobby Sloyd, the offensive line protection issues
all year showed up at the inopportune time. But there
were so many things that happened well to put you

(03:51):
in position. Right, I'm trying not to do it, and
I'm knowing being long winded because I really don't want
to say I.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Have to say.

Speaker 5 (04:01):
Demiico the defensive coordinator won his matchup versus Matt Lafleur,
the defensive coordinator of Texans won his matchup with five
backups versus the Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator who happens
to be their head coach.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
But couldn't.

Speaker 6 (04:17):
Y' also argue defense lost it me you let them go.
It plays forty four yards and a minute and some change. Sure,
but to be in the position the defense not counting
his special teams takeaway. The defense took the ball away twice.
What is somebody had it this morning like I think

(04:38):
Texans cap had it. I've got it somewhere book marked
on my social Ninety six percent of the time you
win the game if you're plus three in a turnover margin.
But this is the thing that's weird about football. You
can do all that stuff, right, I said, Kymie Fairban
was gonna have to bail them out he did.

Speaker 5 (04:57):
Way to go, Emmy. We said, will Land, this junior
de Neil Hunter, We're gonna have to get after the
pass of a sack a piece right we had. We said,
these these guys, these reserves will brag on Nevill, hughe
and Jake Canson. In the next segment, we said, Joe Mixon,
this offense looks a lot different. The heartbeat of his
team is Joe Mixon running the football.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Gordon, he did.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
What happened at the end of the day was the
offensive line, and I'm gonna put the Because we talk
about schematics and diagram and plays. The offensive coordinator is
also responsible for past protection.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
The entire office of operation is at his feet.

Speaker 5 (05:38):
And the guy that us the offensive coordinator here in
the Houston, his name is Bobby Slaughter, and he's learning
on the fly. And we said, Gordon, with Demiko and
Bobby were hired, it was going to get bumpy. It
just felt like we had gotten through some of that
rough air back there. We thought that this year it
would go a lot smoother. They would learn they have

(05:58):
learned from you know, obviously having gone through the experience
of last year. Bobby Slow got his ass whoop. And
it wasn't by some of the most prominent defensive minds
in the game. That wasn't Mike Tomlin, that wasn't Belichick. Wait,
how did slow It get get his ass beat? I'm sorry,

(06:18):
slow It the offensive line they were rushing four and
therefore were beating our six.

Speaker 6 (06:26):
Well, how do we I mean, pass protection is on
the coordinator to the seven. Get some blame. I'm working
my way. I'm working my way. I mean, I just
I think it's I think it's Look, the only thing,
the main thing I'll blame slowik on is scared money.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
Don't make money.

Speaker 6 (06:41):
I think at times of this league has shown when
you get too conservative in the final minutes of a game,
if you leave that opponent any time to come back
and win and win.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
It's more of than that in the NFL that gets
you beat.

Speaker 6 (06:52):
And I thought to me, the ultimate you're down two points,
you're down twenty one to nineteen. You go on this
thirteen play, forty something yard drive. You get down to
the green bay twelve first and ten at the two
minute warning. I thought that's where they got too conservative.
I think, right there, you play for the touchdown. You

(07:13):
don't migos. They were They didn't they They want Jill
mixing up the middle for negative two. They went time
out green Bay. They want Jill mixing left guard for
loss of three time out green Bay and then Cjstraw
passing complete on third down. Of course, that doesn't run
the clock. So you leave Green Bay with their with
their one time out and a minute fifty two to go.

(07:36):
I just think you pass on first and second down there,
and Joe Mixon had a fantastic day, don't get me wrong,
but right there, you're setting, you're waving the white flag.
You're going, we are going to kick this field goal
and we're gonna go up one on you. And Jordan
Loves going, yeah, please do that. Please do that, and
leave me a minute fifty two to go down and
with it with the option of even you know, maybe
we get a touchdown, but even if not, we're gonna

(07:57):
get down a field goal range. We're gonna win this
thing with the field one timeout that and I agree,
it's what I would have done on that third down.
I would have run the ball instead of throwing the
ball to Tankdal. At worst, it was like, because even
if Tankdale catches the football, it's short of the sticks
is fourth and short if he catches the ball.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Okay, cool, You forced.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
Green Bay to call a timeout, and now tank Dale
was falling a bound, so like you have to throw
a route that's going to keep the receiver inbounds, or
we have to run the football. I would have run
the football. I wouldn't have given a damn. If Joe
Mixon had gotten negative six yards, it was still a
reasonable field goal for coymed fairband. You make green Bay
call their timeout, Boom, we kick it. We go up

(08:40):
twenty two to twenty one. Now here's s third and
fifteen from the seventeen. At that point, you're the odds
of you getting get there again. My thing is you
should have thrown on the first and second down. No
gotten closer say you gotta score a touchdown.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
No no, no no.

Speaker 6 (08:52):
You can't settle for the field goal. And that's too conservative,
I understand. So they have to make a decision. All
we trying to score, Nko said, we are trying to score. Okay, cool, After.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
The first and second down, which green Bay used their timeouts,
your fALS, you lost yards, you grit he lost five
yards on two runs. Your philosophy has to shift. At
that point, you go, okay, are we gonna go for
the field?

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Go here?

Speaker 5 (09:17):
But you've also got to think, and this is where
I come back and go defensively. Jordan Love was going
to have even if it were no timeouts. Let's say
they had run the ball and kick, Jordan Love was
still gonna have. Fifty two is an eternity. He was
literally gonna have. Even if they had made them call
another timeout. He was gonna have a minute and a half.
It was going to be time for Jordan Love anyway.

(09:39):
So the thing I answer to me, go and this
is what I choose to believe. And I see the
phone lines of it, and we'll do the thing seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. Your philosophy
must shift if you when they came off the sideline,
the if the thought was go score touchdown, then to
play they ran on the third and fifteen makes sense.

Speaker 6 (09:57):
If Tankdale gets the first down, cool, but you waste
first and second.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
But hear me out, if Tankdale doesn't catch the ball
all right, or if he catches the ball and he
comes up short of the first down, cool. In other words,
what I'm saying to you, is the plan had to
be we're going to go for it on fourth down
to try.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
And get a touchdown.

Speaker 5 (10:16):
So Demiko in his mind, had to go either I'm
kicking the field goal to go up three or even
to go upon one, excuse me, or I'm going to
go for a touchdown if it's fourth and short. I
think they got caught up because I heard from CJ
and we may get it.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
On the other side.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
C J. Stroud said he was looking for Demko, but
because of time he couldn't get to Demko. So wait
a minute, who's in CJ's helmet to tell him this
is what we're going to do. CJ said he did
not have an option to check out. I'm telling you
what the quarterback said. The quarterback said, I did not
have an option to check out of plays one and two.
The first two runs to Joe Mixon. So in my

(10:56):
mind then I go, Okay, we're either playing the club,
we're playing the scoreboard. And then what is our philosophy
If the plan was to go for it on fourth
down and they were willing to win or lose the game,
because in Demko's perspective, word.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
They were again the conservative was to set up for
the field goal.

Speaker 5 (11:13):
If you're gonna go win the game and you throw
that pass the tank down on third down, I understand it.
But on fourth down, were you really going to give
the ball because they look at it as Green Bay
still got a drive. If we go for it on
fourth down and we're down there in the high rids
off us, we turn the ball over, they get the ball, Okay,
they're gonna kneel it down because de Miko still had
some timeouts. The same time out he used the ice

(11:33):
green Bay. So when I say, like, I didn't.

Speaker 6 (11:36):
Have a problem kicking the field goal, you take the lead,
But I have a problem with you just hit what
save and CJ didn't have a great day, like he mean,
mixing was awesome all day. But I just feel like,
in hindsight, it's always twenty twenty. But you just hit
Xavier Hutchinson on a third and ten for eleven yard game,
you just CJ was kind of they were in a
little bit of a groove, the drive was moving. I

(11:57):
would have preferred to have thrown it on first and
second attack. Still, instead you went surrender, Kobra, you went, no,
we're gonna run it. We're gonna make a burn their timeouts.
We're kick the field goal, and I'm going it's the NFL.
Think about a quarterback like Jordan loves two minutes to
go answer, He's gonna do.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
It the nature of the game, CJ. And I'm gonna
bring this up on the other side. A lot of
you want CJ to throw the ball every play. I've
been telling you for a year and a half. It's
a bad idea.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
CJ.

Speaker 5 (12:24):
Stroud is getting his ass hit. I've been telling y'all this.
Four weeks are we And now I come back to
Bobby Slowan. I think Slower was in a conundrum. I
really want to pass the ball, Gordy, but I can't
because my quarterback is getting to be Jesus knocked out
of him every week.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
So what can I scheme up? That's not a run.

Speaker 5 (12:44):
Joe Mixon is running the ball, but the play action
only works when they believe you'll throw it. And every
time we throw it, my six can't block there.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Four or five. He was in a conundrum, and I
think he froze.

Speaker 5 (12:55):
And now, as before we get to the Green Bay
Packers having the ball and the use of timeouts and
things of that nature. There were some coaching gaps, no
question about it. We'll do more on the other side.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Our goal was always to go score. That's our goal.

Speaker 7 (13:28):
Like they did a good job of stopping us, didn't
get in so you know, obviously we didn't pass the
ball well all day, right, so it wasn't good all
the way around. We ran the ball well, thought Joe
did a good job running the ball, and you know
we needed to pass it. It was not good enough.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
Starting with the protection.

Speaker 7 (13:43):
We can't protect and that's going to be difficult for
the quarterback to make the plays.

Speaker 5 (13:49):
Jamiko Ryan says, they were going for the win. Now,
if that's the model, if that's the mantra on what
you were really trying to do, coach, and I'm not
telling you that it wasn't. It just makes us ask. Okay,
then when you had an opportunity on fourth and whatever
it was, when Kymi Fairbearn kicks the go ahead field goal.

(14:10):
If you were really trying to go for the touchdown,
it was fourth and inches or fourth in the yard,
whatever it was, Gordon, go win the game, because a
touchdown is the difference. Like if you put the pressure
on the pack to have to come down and score
a touddy, it's a different ballgame. But Demiko, I wonder
this is just me. Did you change philosophies like mixed string?

(14:32):
I need you to just set it up again on this.
On this last drive you went on, they ran mixing twice.
It's not hard. They ran mixing twice minus three, minus two. No, no, no,
that was when you got down there. But when the
drive started, it was mixing for seventeen. It was mixing
for one. It was mixing for four.

Speaker 6 (14:49):
Uh CJ passed to Tank Dell off sides, uh CJ
stride to Stefan Dicks for two. Joe mixing for a
lost one, Joe mixing for a game of twelve, Joe
mixing for or a loss of one.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
CJ.

Speaker 6 (15:01):
Stroud to Diggs for one, Stroud to Hutchinson for eleven.
Two minute warning, you're now down first and twelve at
the Green Bay, twelve first and ten at the Green Bay.
It's got a good job of mixing run and pass
so far, but it felt like you come out of
the two minute warning and you go run for run
with jo mixing, you'll lose two right there. I think
by thought process has to be still attack mode. Second down,

(15:23):
I need to pass, but I need to get closer
even if it's a five yard passed the Stefon.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
Diggs something to get closer to the goals.

Speaker 5 (15:29):
The head coach has told you we couldn't pass all day,
so that's why I'm saying. But they just had a
mix of running pass on this drive round, the head
coach is saying, and now, yes, Hutch makes a hell
of a catch for eleven yards. A couple of plays
earlier on the thirty ten there was zero confidence. And
you gotta remember the field shrinks when you get down
into the red zone, obviously, and the Packers take the

(15:50):
ball away better or more than anybody else in the league.
So they had to be conservative. The Texans only had
two players with multiple recips two it was Stefan Digg's
and Hutch. I believe that's it.

Speaker 6 (16:06):
Well, conservatives will get you being there from a receipt
bring standpoint nobody to blame but yourselves. And then on
top of it, to you know, it's really funny they
were was it? It was Romo right he was he
was saying on that line, he goes, oh, man, I
wonder if the Texans there, you got to be aggressive here,
you got to be aggressive, and they weren't. And then
at one point they did bring extra guys and it

(16:28):
forced Jordan Love into a quick so defense. Yeah. Yeah,
well that's the thing. I mean, like the strength of
this team. What are the strengths of this team this year?
Supposed to be the defense? And I just that last drive,
they just let Jordan Love do whatever they want.

Speaker 5 (16:40):
In my mind, and we're coming to you, comrade James,
in my mind, with five defenders, backups, even though Hewitt
and and and Hanson you had had a great day,
even though Hewitt and Hanson played well, you are out
there with five backups versus Jordan Love, John Jacobs and

(17:01):
those receivers, you would have to have had a flawless
defensive series.

Speaker 6 (17:08):
I personally, that sounds like, what do you mean that's football?
What are you talking about? In the NFL? If you
got one of the better defenses and a game on
the line. Go win it with your defense with reserves.
I don't give a damn Demico says, next man up.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
So they're supposed to wait then why'd you kick the
field goal?

Speaker 8 (17:25):
Then?

Speaker 1 (17:25):
This is my point coming back to Bobby Slowey.

Speaker 5 (17:27):
If the plan was to go win the football game,
then go score a damn touchdown.

Speaker 6 (17:32):
Don't let Kayami kick on the fourth down. Go for
a touchdown? No, you take you gotta take the No to.

Speaker 5 (17:38):
Me, I'm telling Demiko the series of play calling that
we're following the line of thinking and what Demko's voice
literally said, we wanted to score, Okay, cool it was
fourth and what it was fourth? And no it's fourth
and fifteen, so they couldn't go forth. But it was
third and fifteen. They throw the things incomplete the Tankdal

(17:58):
all right, why that up if you're not going to
go for it on fourth down?

Speaker 1 (18:03):
Because if Tankdale catches it, it's still not a first down.

Speaker 6 (18:05):
Still right, Well, that's what was so and getting the
get anything you should just run it in because because
what you get on first a second, then third down
should have been running football.

Speaker 5 (18:13):
Making burn their list time and again, I know Comrade
James listened to us. All I'm saying is if you
were going to play the clock, run the ball on
third down, still kick the field goal. Cool the moment
you chose to throw the ball on third down and
you chose to throw a route and a route combination
that did not get you a first down. You can't
then tell me I was trying to get to the
end zone. You weren't because you didn't even get past

(18:34):
the sticks, and you threw a route and a combination
if you will, that had a less than likely likelihood
of happening. Like And that's when I come back to
slower can go. That's what we got. Third and fifteen,
that's what we got. Now, I understand the defense to go,
that's what we got. I understand the route. If you're
gonna go for it on fourth down, then I understand

(18:55):
throwing at the tank. That's why I mean, Comrade James,
I'm sorry, Gordon and not doing what we do get
in here, Comrade James.

Speaker 9 (19:01):
Okay, all right, I'll be fast. Good morning, guys. Okay.
I like the call, the two point conversion.

Speaker 10 (19:07):
That was a gutsy call, but it was obvious that
Green Bay was just waiting for the run.

Speaker 9 (19:13):
I got a quarterback by c J. Stroud. I'm throwing
it Okay.

Speaker 10 (19:16):
Now when we're to have you know, third and third
and three, third and four. Okay, CJ's hanging on the ball,
hanging onto the ball too long. We're having a hard
time at the scrimmage line. Why not a quick pass
to keep them honest? Okay.

Speaker 9 (19:35):
The third thing I want to say is this kickoff rule.

Speaker 10 (19:40):
I haven't heard you talk about it, but it's got
to be the dumbest thing I've ever seen, because it
takes away from dropped catches, hitting a player or downing.

Speaker 9 (19:52):
The ball at the one yard line. If the goal
is to.

Speaker 10 (19:55):
Score more points, why don't we just have one foot
in bounds as that a seated bals and watch the
scors rocking.

Speaker 9 (20:03):
Okay, that's what I.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
Have to say, my man, Comrade James Terry up in Cyprus,
Good morning, you're next up.

Speaker 11 (20:12):
Good morning. Look guys, Look, Chris, you can say all
you want about the defense.

Speaker 5 (20:16):
Man.

Speaker 11 (20:16):
Look, defense gave you two turnovers. You didn't convert those
to two touchdowns. Special teams gave you one. You didn't
convert that to a touchdown. That's twenty one points that
you left on the table. Look, if anybody's saying anything
other than that old line cost us to the game.

Speaker 6 (20:32):
And trial Arry Terry, did they have the lead with
a minute forty four to go win the damn game?

Speaker 1 (20:37):
You had the lead.

Speaker 5 (20:38):
But it's not just getting but it's just it's not
just getting a lead, is did you maximize on the
opportunities to do it? There's clearly the three point wasn't
enough at that point. What's done is done. But you
gotta lead win the game. What he's say, it's supposed
to be big.

Speaker 6 (20:53):
And badass, all that money, that Daniel Hunter, all that
you know number one Anderson, it's it's that's that's not stupid.
Then you're saying you lost the game regardless, then why
not go zero faith in your defense?

Speaker 1 (21:09):
Why not go for a touchdown?

Speaker 6 (21:10):
That's my whole boy, But my whole point is slowly
you're down there on the second, you're.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
Down on the twelve yard line.

Speaker 6 (21:15):
You told me when they kicked the field, give you
as it's over, we're done.

Speaker 5 (21:18):
No what I said, no, when I said it was
Jordan Love has the football at home with those receivers
that tiny in.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
Name Pat Mahomes. Come on, he's a Pro Bowl quarterbacks. Fine,
but your defense supposed to be good.

Speaker 5 (21:31):
No, you're on the road versus those weapons, and they
have the momentum.

Speaker 6 (21:37):
Right, I'm supposed to be one of the best defensive
minds and figure it out to me, figure out five?

Speaker 1 (21:43):
Backup? Oh my god, they should have just quit, then
did they?

Speaker 6 (21:46):
Did they go get We want to forfeit because we're
down five guys. Can we reschedule this game until we
get healthy? Go ahead, Terry, finish us up, brother, then
we up again.

Speaker 12 (21:54):
Go ahead, Chris, Chris.

Speaker 11 (21:56):
Look man, look, look, let's just called it like you.
The old line lost game shot.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
I mean we're good enough.

Speaker 11 (22:01):
I mean he didn't have time to throw the ball.
Not only that, man, look this old line. And then
I want to respond to Larry. Larry is'all greatest call
that you know in this city that calls every day.

Speaker 6 (22:12):
You know.

Speaker 13 (22:13):
He said, we're all boo hood.

Speaker 11 (22:14):
But look, man, I'm.

Speaker 14 (22:15):
Saying because this team is not gonna make an AFC
Championship game against Baltimore ar Kansas City because they can't
be And this old line, man, we haven't had an
old line in this city since ninety one when they
had Doug Dawson.

Speaker 5 (22:27):
Kevin said no, no, no, no, no no no no no
no no, Terry, I'm up. We're up against the Brian
and saying but no, no, no, Dwayne Brown, Chris Myers.
I think about who am I missing, Whom I missing,
whom I'm missing? Wade Smith. No, you had pro bowlers
on the offensive front. I'm not gonna do that. I
will take more phone calls on the other side. Seven one, three,

(22:48):
two two five, seven ninety. I do want to talk
about the offensive line. I also want to talk about
those reserves on defense I keep bringing up. I also
want to talk about the Miko Ryans, like this game operations,
like what are we doing here? What the hell was
going on with not challenging the lateral? What what are
we doing? Like?

Speaker 1 (23:08):
This is.

Speaker 5 (23:10):
Let me get out of here. Sports Talk seven ninety
stand Northfleet. It's just a five.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
Chris Cordy, be next up the next up? Mentality on
your radio.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
Over about that you go through prepares you for the.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
Next Welcome back to next up on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 15 (23:31):
I'll just try to ask you every play that I
can that I get called. I really don philosophy right
then and there you know, I'm uh, you know, trying
to talk to the Miko, but I really can't get
over there. But can't get on what It seemed like
we were trying to just run out the clock and
then you know, trying to kick a field goal. Before
you know, we ended up you know, having to throw

(23:51):
the ball and third down and wait a minute, give
them the back forty left. So you know, I think
that it was a good plan. Just got to ask
you better, what what?

Speaker 12 (23:59):
What?

Speaker 5 (23:59):
What the hell was the playing CJ? Wait a minute, No, no,
damn that faith in music, Damn that damn that The
head coach said, we were trying to score a touchdown.
The quarterback said, I couldn't get communication with the coach,
so we was trying to do what was necessary to
kick the field goal. Then he was saying talking about
on third down throw what what? Why aren't the coaching

(24:20):
quarterback on the same page with how to handle this situation?
This is a game winning drive scenario. What the hell
is going on in CJ's helmet. I couldn't get over
there to Demiko. Hey, did anybody coach CJ to call
a damn timeout? You know, the same timeout that they
used to trying ice McManus coach went he ended the

(24:43):
game going it with two timeouts. CJ Joe Mixon just
got stuffed on second down. Hey timeout, let me get
my offense on the same page down here so we
can if we are truly trying to get a touchdown.
We all know we're running and it's not a bleep
in you know what fired? Like, what the hell happened

(25:04):
in crucial moments? What are we doing here?

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Now?

Speaker 5 (25:08):
I'm not gonna go crazy as the NFL. The other
team gets paid the Miko's got a lot on his plate.
But if you're going to be the defensive play caller
and the head coach, I said last year, Demko picked one.
You're gonna either choose to be over the game management
or you're gonna call defensive plays. Pick one. Demko was

(25:30):
a rookie last year. Now, he did a good job
last year. None of us were bitching about Demko being
the play caller and the game management last year, Gordy,
this year, this is not the first time there's been
some inconsistency in how we're gonna close out halves and
what we're doing in crucial moments in the game. Typically However,
the quarterback has been brilliant enough to bail our ass out,

(25:50):
and in this one, when he was getting his teeth
kicked in because the old line was some trash, he couldn't.
So you got the deer in the hair lights from
the play caller. The quarterback can't talk to the head coach,
who knows who's in his ear. The head coach can't
get the challenge flag out. The head coach seems to
be changing thought process and philosophies in mid street.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
Well, he's still only lost, but two I wouldn't give
it that if they lost by two hundred.

Speaker 5 (26:11):
The bottom line is I need the program to function
at a certain level. And I don't know what happened
at Lambeam Sunday.

Speaker 6 (26:21):
I mean, look, we can talk all the way with
CJ's played behind worst offensive lines before. For him to
go ten of twenty one for eighty six yards, I mean,
that's you're not gonna win the game now. Joe Mixon
was incredible. Joe Mixon is the reason you were in
the game. But in the defense, well was so funny
was did you remember what Tony Romo said going into
half Tony Romo's comments going into half, because the Texans

(26:43):
had just scored what a fifty five fifty five play
touchdown drive to take a nineteen fourteen lead. Going for
two was a whole nother discussion. But Tony Romo says
going into halftime, he goes, man, I can't wait to
see what the Texans do in the second half. Seat
They seemed to have some they Jim. They seem to
figure out how to attack this Green Bay defense. They

(27:05):
got some things working here, and I can't wait to see.
They're gonna carry a lot of momentum in the second half.
Scored three points. Yeah, I mean, that's what's wild. I
heard this this morning and I looked it up and
it's accurate. I believe the Texans since I think, what
is it?

Speaker 5 (27:19):
The Texans have six touchdowns in the second halves of games.
Two of those against the Colts Week one. The other
two were last week beating up on a bad Patriots team.
That means the other hive of many games, that is
four games. The other five games you have four, excuse me,

(27:43):
you have two. Bottom line is second half. This offense
is not performing and we don't have the experience they want.

Speaker 6 (27:51):
Punt Joe Mixon punt, punt, punt punt before the field
goal drive in the final minutes. I'm sorry, I see
a generational quarterback. We gotta be careful with that one. No,
if your generational quarterback, I don't give it them what
the OCS call it?

Speaker 1 (28:08):
Like, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 6 (28:10):
Social quarterbacks. Play is not at a point right like
CJ is not how many times Aaron Rodgers store for
eight aaronational in this perfect tempts.

Speaker 5 (28:21):
It's not like it was cold and windy. No, like
Aaron Rodgers is generational, CJ is just damn good. We
gotta be careful with that generational momka. Well, but that's
what put this on CJ. He didn't have protection. The
play calling was a pass though to me, like you're
looking at oh, I was bad. He was bad too.

(28:43):
CJ can't be great with an on line.

Speaker 6 (28:45):
That's that I've seen him though, do special things when
you're not.

Speaker 5 (28:49):
Playing a defense that good. I repeat the number one
in the league taking the ball.

Speaker 6 (28:52):
Away last year we were putting freaking uh Kendrick Green
and Kening Green and.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Green's off the street were plugging in there.

Speaker 5 (29:02):
Of all the things that went wrong yesterday, CJ's down
at about like number five for me. He didn't help
you in how could he? He didn't throw intercepts, he
didn't fumble the ball he had hit like what is
he didn't have what was it? Intentional grounding? So I
don't put I'm not saying he was great. What I

(29:22):
am acknowledging is there are some other people, starting with
the guys that coordinate and are the head coach of
the operation to the offensive line. Too many dudes over
there getting paid to be performing like that. A college
head coach turned NFL defensive coordinator, Jeff Hapley was at
Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, last year, and now

(29:46):
he's out here on Sunday in Week six kicking the
ass of Bobby Slowanck Week seven, No go ahead, Jacob
on the north side.

Speaker 16 (29:58):
Noo hey man is one game, bro, and they did lose.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
You know what I mean, they had a shot to win.

Speaker 16 (30:05):
Now the offensive quarter day that he do have to
come up with some other options. He never put cj.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
Undersnat under the center. He can't play action.

Speaker 16 (30:16):
He just when they when they when it's a short
short distance. He can't quarterback. I've never seen no quarterbacks.
He can't roll out he can't do nothing but now
and and at third he couldn't.

Speaker 5 (30:27):
Throw it up.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
He shouldn't have thrown the ball on third.

Speaker 16 (30:29):
Now he gotta run the clock or let him and
let him use and and and my man, the Miko,
he just keep his use a flag, use the red flag,
use and use the timeouts.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
He just he just sit there just like keep real calm.

Speaker 4 (30:43):
He cool.

Speaker 16 (30:44):
I give him that, he cool and come. But he
got to use their red flag because what you're gonna
get you use it. Use it for even if you
get don't get it right, use it, use your timeouse.
And also do some play action pass since you gotta
a running.

Speaker 1 (30:58):
Back that that day coming up and they crawling.

Speaker 16 (31:00):
The line for you pick it out and throw it
to the tight end or je's going across you know,
I mean a cross route. It's it can be solved.
So they disa building block. They five and two. They're
gonna win their their their division and you know what
I mean, and then they're gonna be all right. That's
all I got to say on that.

Speaker 5 (31:16):
A y'all, my man Jacob on the north side, appreciate
you calling. We'll get to you. Mark Troy Clans Troy,
You'll be my first up. On the other side, I'm
getting all pissed off again. Damn, that was a winnable game.
Wherever you are in the city, let me feel better
because I talk about my guy, James B.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
Thibodeaux.

Speaker 5 (31:37):
Whether you're in the city you're looking for a commercial
or residential construction, the good people at JB. Thibodeau Homes
and Properties is the only person that I would recommend,
not your average home bill. Remind you they've been in
the community for several generations. Third generation builder is one
James Thibodeau. I assure you the blueprints are designed to
save your time and money wherever you are in the

(31:59):
construction process, whether you're going from the ground up and
you need a lot to build on, maybe you have
a lot of your own with wherever you are, whatever
the circumstances, JB. Thibodeau Homes and Properties will make sure
they get the job done. Great people, most importantly great vision, quality,
craftsmanship and duplex specials still being offered at two hundred

(32:21):
and twenty two thousand. Sneeze got some visionary, some progressive
design plans that allow you to maximize on your acreage
and again. The quality finishes will definitely get eyeballs and
traction into your home so that you can become the
investor that you always thought about being. For more Intel,
go to jbtipodeau dot com. That's jbtibodeau dot com.

Speaker 2 (32:43):
Next self continues, it's not having tax Okay, here's chat
north Fleet and Chris Gordy. It's not having text Okay,
sports suck.

Speaker 5 (32:53):
We'll getting ready to wrap up our one here on
the overreaction, Underreaction, proper reaction Monday. I still have so
many notes here. I haven't even gotten on my material,
and I get a little emotional. No, I didn't when
the schedule came out. I didn't have the Texans winning
this game. When we concluded Friday Show, my prediction was
twenty four to twenty three Packers. It was going to

(33:13):
be a tough situation. We will brag on some people.
Joe Mixon baller, excuse me, defense with five rotation or
five backups play well, got no issue. Then Kymi Fairban
showed up for me. Now, I don't like you kicking
the ball out of bounds, but you showed up for me.
To Gordy's point, to get his team a lead with

(33:35):
under two minutes. Kymi did his job. So there are
some things to brag about, But there are some others.
Game management stuff, play calling stuff, protection stuff. I started
the season, Gordon and everybody was talking about all these
free agents, all these names we signed. I said, yo,
hold up, if that offensive line isn't healthy, and if

(33:57):
that offensive line isn't productive, then none of these names matter.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
And yesterday was a going example.

Speaker 5 (34:04):
When those dudes up front, starting with the guy that
makes the most money, starting with the guy that's the oldest,
the most senior of those five, Larrmy Tonzo, and I'm
talking about him as the leader of those five tightest
highward is past blocking god and he trips over himself,
lands on his back, and my quarterback gets hit.

Speaker 6 (34:23):
I mean, what are we doing? Step and there's a
I mean, there's nothing you can do. I mean, these
are the are they gonna be there? These are the
best guys. They got to perform better. I mean I
almost almost look to you know, we're throwing arrows at
slowk in all this. Let's look at the old line coach.
Hey man, there's some talented life Slowick and Strauser.

Speaker 5 (34:44):
Strawser reports the slower. Strauser is the old line coach.
He's under the leadership of Bobby Sloyd. Bobby Sloyd, why
does the pass pro look like that? And why has
it looked like that against the against the Vikings? It
looked like that against the Bear? Now looks like that
today or yesterday?

Speaker 4 (35:05):
Why?

Speaker 1 (35:06):
Why?

Speaker 5 (35:06):
Why aren't we making adjustments? Troy and Umble, you've been
holding for a while. I appreciate your patience.

Speaker 12 (35:13):
Go ahead, Thank you, man, good to talk to y'all.
All they were talking about the off season was his
Houston Texans office and this receiving corps. All off seasons
we kept talking about he people kept talking about John Mitchie.
What is John Mitchell on this team for? Do you know?
Tankville is averaging nine y'alls a kitch and Stefan Diggs's
average nine y'all a catch. They don't beat anybody. Nico

(35:35):
Collins the legitimate deep threat they have, and all of
a sudden, they can't throw the ball down the field
at all. I get it, yesterday's passed pro protection, but
they can't throw the ball. They have not taken one
shot deep downfield without d Ko Collins on that field,
and I and that last play call and I'm changing.
But as bad as your offense played, your defense kept
you in the game. We can point to every game

(35:58):
when Nico the Miko has made some coaching decisions, said
why that was questionable while you're going to halftime with
all three of your timeouts, all that kind of stuff,
when your team had a chance to win the game.
You let your team down. That man is not ten
the two when he said they were trying to score
a touch downs. You ran the first two plays and
get five yards ninety five. There's no way you throw
that ball and don't force those people say time out.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
There's no way you do that, or you at least
take a shot at the end zone. Troy like, at
least let's go for the home run ball here.

Speaker 12 (36:26):
Yeah, he's not being I'm sorry, man, he's not being honest.
He didn't say it was going for touchdown. He said
we try to score, well, try to score the field goal. Also,
so the play call was bad and CJ had his
business World is worst game and even on their last drive,
I would think, hey, look, you the man on the offense.
You can just tell me I just run the plays
that they call. You got the ability to audible and
stuff like that. You know the game situation, run that plock.

(36:50):
You don't give those guys a time. They had to
buck ball on first and first and ten on the
twelve with two minutes left and ran sixteen seconds in
three plays. That just makes no dog a sense. That
is on the coach and we gotta I'm tire them
letting people. Let the Miko rise off the cook with
these little coaching decisions, and it cost him a game

(37:10):
this time. Now, I know you mad that the defense
didn't hold up like they think they could have. You know,
the guy made a catch, the guy didn't make a
great catch to keep the drive going. But the Miko,
when you got a chance for your team to win
the game, you gotta close the d o man. I'm sorry, dude,
I love you. I think you're still a good coach
like that, but take the reins off and when you
make mistakes, start calling them out and stuff like that.

(37:31):
Not throwing that coaching challenge. At least get your defense
a chance to Greek.

Speaker 5 (37:36):
Group appreciate Troy and humble. CJ's throwing his helmet on
the sideline in frustration. And I keep saying this to people.
I understand that this offense operates when they're throwing the ball.
I understand that the skill people on the team without
Nico Collins, I saw this team to go to Cincinnati

(38:00):
against Joe Burrow and win a game. Not at the
same time. If we have revisions history, who was that
that was? Was that Tyler Boyd?

Speaker 1 (38:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (38:08):
If Tyler Boyd catches the ball and the ends one,
that's a l on the road. This team has an
issue playing their best ball on the road. They're going
to have to grow up in that capacity. And it's
just me. I can't tell CJ what he should do.

Speaker 1 (38:23):
Is just me.

Speaker 5 (38:24):
And I've seen other great quarterbacks do it. I've seen
Brady do it. I've seen Manning do it. I've seen
l Way do it. I've seen Marino do it. I've
seen Aaron Rodgers do it. At some point, as the quarterback,
you have to And I know it's a fine line
between embarrassing your offensive line and being demonstrative in demanding

(38:46):
that they be better, or I should say and or
you go to the head coach and say, I don't
I can't trust that guy. We need to get somebody
else in there, whether it's Broker whether it's Patterson what
CJ got tied of his helmet going getting knocked off
to Chicago from from Green Bay.

Speaker 1 (39:04):
He got tired of getting hit, Wasn't wasn't Slowick?

Speaker 6 (39:08):
Like, thank god we kept him and like we loved
him last year? Why what changed expectations when? And I
said this, when Slowick? What was that week one? They
ran the ball? They had Nico, everything was in balance,
there was a point and I forget what week it was.

(39:28):
And I was like, I think Slowick sometime looks at
that play call sheet with that personnel and it's like
the cheesecake factory menu. There's just so much stuff, but
like you can be I thought, almost sometimes less can
be more. Dalton Schultz's is an absolute waste in this offense.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
He had one catch yesterday. It was twenty eight yards.

Speaker 6 (39:49):
I just thought yesterday's stand kind of rewatching some of
the film and seeing the pocket wasn't great, but there
was a pocket at times. To ce J, you know what,
Jordan Love did excellent in that last drive. He got
rid of the football quick. You know, here comes Will Anderson,
Here comes to Neil Hunter. Didn't not one two boom
fall out?

Speaker 5 (40:06):
So do you trust from a play calling standpoint, as
we get ready to go to break, do you trust
Matt Lafleur or do you trust Bobby Slow?

Speaker 1 (40:14):
So what's what I'm saying. One guy is putting his weapon,
one of the fast risers last year. He's gonna be ahead.
I said, well, Slow, it's not ready to do that.
You don't know. I'm saying, where are the where are
the crosses?

Speaker 6 (40:24):
Then like, if that's what they're doing, and we're complaining
the offensive line sucks and all this, then the answer
is get the ball out quick?

Speaker 1 (40:31):
But where's Stalton Schultz underneath? Where's this guy underneath?

Speaker 5 (40:34):
It's it's so easy to say that, but I can't
run Schultz on a route if I need him to
stay in and protect. You understand what I'm saying, Like,
I think things work together. So people like to say,
and I'm not just saying you, but like, oh crosses,
go quick, go quick. We're like where are the screens?
Where they're awful at running screens? The timing and rhythm

(40:54):
the run. You can't just say run a screen like
you have to set that up. It's got to come
and seek winz with rons and other things that you're doing.

Speaker 6 (41:02):
But I watched Jordan Love literally, I mean, I'd love
to see the time on how long he held that
ball in the y.

Speaker 5 (41:08):
Because the dude that's drawing up plays for them is
better at his job right now, Matt Laflour, than Bobby
is at his job. I'm not asking Bobby to be
Matt Laflour. I'm asking Bobby Sloyd. With Joe Mixon and
Dalton Shortz and Tank Dale and Stefan Diggs, I'm asking Bobby,
can we make a second half adjustment with those four

(41:30):
dudes when you're going up against Jeff Halfley.

Speaker 1 (41:33):
As the defensive coordinator. Yeah, they're running green.

Speaker 5 (41:36):
Bays, running all these exotic blitzes and doing all that Bs.
This man is a first year NFL defensive coordinator, Bobby,
and you got one starter out on offense.

Speaker 1 (41:46):
There is no excuse for.

Speaker 5 (41:48):
That offense to look like that in the second half, especially,
And I know it sounds like I get to be
up here and be armchair quarterback on a Monday. That's
not necessarily what I'm trying to do. I just watch
the tape, I go look at the numbers, and then
the truth is in there somewhere are there some things
happening behind the scenes that we are privy to. Of course,

(42:10):
are we gonna find out the complete truth in what
they were thinking and what's happening now, We probably won't.
So all we can do is try and reasonably to
do and speculate. And that's what makeststart radio fund especially
here on seven ninety your home in Houston.

Speaker 1 (42:23):
Sports.

Speaker 5 (42:24):
On the other side, let's take some more phone calls.
I said I was gonna heap some praise. We should
do that as well. And I don't know if y'all
know this or not. On Sunday, this is now turned
into a very very important game. The division is up
for grabs on Sunday at NRG. We'll talk about that
as well.

Speaker 1 (42:44):
Gordon.

Speaker 6 (42:44):
We also haven't gone around the league We'll do that
in eleven o'clock out as well, Fleeting Gordon. Next up,
carrying you to noon Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (42:53):
Now, what's next, next steps?

Speaker 2 (42:56):
It's next step, the.

Speaker 1 (42:58):
Next step, Take the next step.

Speaker 17 (42:59):
No stop, next next up.

Speaker 1 (43:03):
This team wants to be next.

Speaker 2 (43:06):
This is next up with stad Norfleeten Chris Gordy.

Speaker 4 (43:10):
Let's see what's next next next.

Speaker 5 (43:14):
Let's kick off the second half of the program here
on a Monday overreaction, underreaction, proper reaction line from the
seven ninety studios gallery areas where we are to be
precise over here off the west Loop, new to the station,
new to the show or returning. We appreciate you lending
us your ears stand sportsman me at Chris Gordy him.
There's Connadie McGovern. You can at him as well. He's

(43:37):
on the other side of the glass there. Appreciate him
allowing us to work through the clock and keep us
on schedule. Here for the most part, taking phone calls
as we get ready to go to Clarence and Jersey
Jersey Village. Excuse me seven one three two one two
five seven ninety, I'm trying to place my ire in

(43:59):
the pro spots. Bobby Sloy's offense was not great yesterday.

Speaker 4 (44:06):
C J.

Speaker 5 (44:06):
Stride wasn't great, but he's under the Bobby umbro The
offensive line wasn't great. They're under the Bobby umbrella.

Speaker 6 (44:14):
You had two guys have multiple receptions. Steph Diggs had
five and Joe Mixon had two. Dalton shows one catch
cased over, one catch Hutch, one catch Tank Dale over.
How does Tankdale go on in tide game and he
doesn't get four targets, not a single catch. Yes, it

(44:37):
must be stated Tankdale did drop a touchdown in the
back of the end zone in the first half. Yes,
it needs to be said, Tank, you have to catch
that football. I'm hit him right in the hands to it,
just like just cause most gets his hands, close your
hands on it and he catches it.

Speaker 5 (44:52):
Bobby Sloyd I said the Texans had to steal two
possessions from green Bay. They stole three bonehead special team
snaff fu by the kicking unit for green Bay and
then Neville Hewett.

Speaker 1 (45:09):
Gets to pick.

Speaker 5 (45:10):
Shout out to Jaylen Petrie for batman Baar's direction. Excuse me,
And there's my young guy, Kaylen Bullock picking off another
ball and he should have had too on that b
B that Jordan Love throws to Craft the tight end
never heward is kind of in the window. And then
kayleb Bullock is coming and he just misses getting in

(45:30):
enough time to get his second interception and would have
taken points off the board for green Bay.

Speaker 1 (45:35):
From nap standpoint, Bullock's been off. You've been praising. Bullock
is the guy.

Speaker 5 (45:40):
He's the guy all right, So we're bragging on some dudes.
We talk clock management. If you just tune it in
to the show, Here's what I believe. I do believe.
It's first and ten on the Green Bay twelve. This
is the field goal by Fairbaron to go up for
the Texans. I truly believe when they broke the huddle

(46:02):
prior to giving Joe Mixing the ball on that first down,
I do believe the Texas wanted to score a touchdown.
I think something happened between that run by Mixing on
first down for negative yardage and the pass to Tankdale
on third down. Something happened to the operation. Their plan

(46:23):
changed somewhere in there. I've got the quarterback telling us
himself that, yeah, we feel goal. The head coach says, no, no, no,
we were going for a touchdown. But then if you
look at what Bobby Slow had called, CJ told us, yeah,
I couldn't do anything to check out of those first
two plays, those were going to be runs. It just

(46:43):
it's not matching up, not challenging the lateral pass by
Jordan Love. Romo says on the broadcast. In real time,
I think Tomko and then Demiko gets the call late
to try and get the flag out the game. They
snapped the ball and then Tavia wicks out of UVA
a couple of years ago. He gets a tud later,

(47:04):
so that cost you points. Not challenging at the proper
time to Miko in a game that's nip and tuck,
why are we ending the game with two timeouts?

Speaker 1 (47:12):
Steal in our pocket? Gordon? Well, look what are we
doing here?

Speaker 5 (47:17):
The same time out that you called to ice the
kicker for what was the walk off win for Green Bay.
It's the same time out that your quarterback could have
called if he wasn't sure on what's going on with
the communication for that third and fifteen snap. This is
basic NFL operation stuff. This is why you spend all

(47:37):
that time in the classroom. Yes, I understand it's easy
for me to sit here and say this, and I
wish all of you could be on the field or
on the headset in a real NFL game to understand
the context of all the bleep that's happening real time.
You ever heard your granddaddy tell you a story about

(47:58):
about the war, Gordon, And it's impossible for us to
put ourselves in when you're actually and the bullets are
literally lying.

Speaker 1 (48:07):
It's tough. I get it.

Speaker 5 (48:09):
What do Miko has been asked to do, task to do,
Casario Slowak, all the guys, Frank Ross, special teams coordinator.

Speaker 1 (48:15):
It's a challenging, bleeping job. But this is the job.

Speaker 5 (48:21):
And you all this is the first time going to
correct me because you like to keep receipts on me.
I think this is the first time I have to
say coaching costs the Texans a football game.

Speaker 6 (48:36):
I don't know the Atlanta and Carolina games. Oh, they
were ill prepared, that's true. I was about that coming
off the bye week and losing at the Panthers. I
was hot about that this year. Certainly, this is the
first time I'm saying that cost you that. They just
got their face beat in by the Vikings. At the
Vikings that like from the word go the tip pass touchdown,
it was just it was just a tighter wave and
they couldn't do anything about it. So there's enough blame

(48:59):
to go around.

Speaker 5 (49:01):
I think the defensive coordinator Demico did enough to win
a football game. On Sunday with five reserves. He held
the Green Bay Packers to twenty four point. He got
plus two from his defense plus two in the turnover margin. Look,

(49:25):
the running back gave you one hundred and twelve yards
on the ground. Joe Mixon averaged four point six and
scored twice. What, like, I don't understand Bobby has to
take the lion?

Speaker 1 (49:38):
Shall this one today?

Speaker 12 (49:40):
Like?

Speaker 1 (49:40):
Bobby? What are we doing?

Speaker 8 (49:41):
Bro?

Speaker 1 (49:42):
So I go down. I'm sorry, I promise clans and
Jersey gas again.

Speaker 6 (49:45):
But you say that about Bobby Slowick and he'll say
I wasn't I wasn't perfect yesterday. But mister Ryan's, at
the end of the day, I handed you a two
point lead with or one point lead with a minute
forty two to go, and you isn't your calling card
defensive Ryan's.

Speaker 5 (50:00):
Mister Slowick, you could have put seven points on the board,
which would have given my defense. You know, with five
starters missing, you could have given us some more relief.
Don't we have to do the complimentary football thing, mister Slowick?

Speaker 8 (50:15):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (50:15):
Yeah, sure.

Speaker 6 (50:16):
But still at the end of the day, I gave
you a lead and you let them go right down
the field. Who by the way, up until that point,
Jordan Love was less than two hundred yards passing, and
would they have twenty one points?

Speaker 1 (50:27):
On the day.

Speaker 6 (50:28):
I mean they had some they had some big plays,
but for the most part, your defense was doing okay
against them.

Speaker 1 (50:34):
Get a stop? What it matters most?

Speaker 5 (50:35):
Mister slowick, Why isn't your offense scoring points in the
second half of them?

Speaker 1 (50:40):
Oh, that's a red herring. I'm telling you again. We
gave you the lead and you gave it up. Missus slog.
Sounds like you're trying.

Speaker 6 (50:45):
Not to give Oh, it sounds like you're trying to
push blame go no stop Jordan Love.

Speaker 5 (50:51):
Tomko's defense did stop Jordan Love. He's a good player.
How what it matter most?

Speaker 6 (50:55):
They have five dudes that could You don't think this
would happen in a playoff game, like not, got to stop?
Get a stop when you need most, when you need
it most, get a stop, and you're going to the
Super Bowl and Demico decide. Let's let's not be calp.
Tell me a time you've seen a defense.

Speaker 5 (51:11):
Have five starters out going up against a Pro Bowl
caliber quarterback on the road and they get a stop
like that?

Speaker 1 (51:18):
Doesn't Would you like some wine with your cheese? Oh?
My cheeze with your wine? I mean that's clans in
Jersey Village you can do something with Gordon.

Speaker 18 (51:28):
God it, look at your Gordon.

Speaker 1 (51:30):
It was not on our defense.

Speaker 6 (51:34):
Clar They let the defense. They let the offense correct
down the field. Did did the did the did Bobby
Slower give up the green Bay field goal? Though it
was the Texanos defense. Let that go.

Speaker 18 (51:43):
Do tell you, I tell you what the defense did it.
But let me hit you with some numbers. Let me
hit you with some numbers. Gordon first down fifteen, green
Bay eighteen. Third down conversions four for thirteen green Bay
four for ten. Total net yards one ninety seven, green
Bay two seventy seven net Russian one forty two, green
Bay eighty two. Net passing fifty five thinking yards green

(52:06):
Bay one ninety five. Penalties five for fifty five green
Bay eight for fifty five on penalties, turn.

Speaker 1 (52:13):
Over zero Texans, green Bay three. We should have not
lost that game.

Speaker 5 (52:18):
Go look at the yards per play for the offense
to the Texans.

Speaker 1 (52:21):
The yards per.

Speaker 5 (52:22):
Play advantage Texans. I think time of possession advantage Texans.
I think that was the case. Yes, yes, so you can't.
You can't lose that. But when your offensive line plays
like that, that like yesterday, if there was ever taping class.

Speaker 1 (52:39):
I do appreciate you. I'm looking at the club we
gotta roll.

Speaker 5 (52:41):
If there was ever tape guys that like you go
into an off season. I remember one time I was
on the air in Atlanta and they spent two first
round picks on offensive linemen and we were going.

Speaker 1 (52:53):
Like, hey, wait, two first rounders.

Speaker 5 (52:58):
I'm just telling you if they're was ever justification to
make sure you got the right guys up front? And
let me and mind you now, I'm going to tangent
and I don't have time. They weren't going up against
t J Watt Blessed. It's hard eight, and Hutchinson wasn't
out there. Miles Garrett didn't play yesterday. I'm not telling
you those guys are no name on the Green Bay

(53:18):
Packers defense.

Speaker 1 (53:19):
But let's be clear, like they weren't going up against
Max Crosby.

Speaker 6 (53:23):
Well, I flipped the other side and say, I guess
it's too much ask for million dollar man Daniel Hunter.
He had to send you something last Okay, Well that's
I mean, that's money time, my guy, money time.

Speaker 1 (53:37):
Show it to me. Will Anderson. Where you at, my boy?

Speaker 6 (53:40):
Where's fifty one coming off the edge? He got a shoulders,
great socks. Maybe maybe. I mean, you know what, the
same thing's gonna happen. Textas are gonna be an AFC
championship game against against the against the Chiefs. They're gonna
take a two point lead or one point lead with
a field goal with one forty two to go, and
Mohan's gonna march right down the fielderre and go Dad

(54:02):
slowing to be fair, Patty does that against it?

Speaker 1 (54:05):
He doesn't. So I'm just saying, like, good defenses get stops.

Speaker 5 (54:08):
There they were down five starters going it like I'm
not what you're saying is true.

Speaker 1 (54:15):
Five dudes.

Speaker 6 (54:18):
Out there playing one hundred percent of the stat Will Anderson,
Denis Carr, Tree, Daniel hard Single still play, Paalen still hundred.

Speaker 1 (54:27):
They ain't on my line back This on my dbs.

Speaker 5 (54:30):
Your linebackers have to play. Oh we gotta go, Lembert
Tyler Kraft, let me.

Speaker 1 (54:35):

Northfleet and Chris Gordy of Sports Talk seven ninety, Houston's

Speaker 5 (55:49):
Oh my goodness, what's going on to the good people
at Age Town? My favorite city in America. That's why
I'm blessed to be here with you. Thanks everybody that
has us preset number one on the audio down. You
know you can go to Sports seven ninety dot com
and get caught up in everything that you miss from
our entire lineup. Also, courtesy of the free iHeartRadio app,
you can take us with you wherever you are, wherever

(56:11):
you go. Somebody hit us up said they were making
their way back from the game in Green Bay, said
they had us. They were streaming us here this Oh,
that's my guy. That's my man, Willie seven oh nine,
staying listening right now, driving back from Lambeau to Chicago
to get a flight back to Houston. The Miko should
have challenged or just burn a time out. Defense was
not set. Green Bay took advantage of that right there. Yeah,

(56:34):
they had some communication issues and it's not the first
time that it has happened, but there was just something's
going on with the communication. CJ said he couldn't get
to the Miko on the final drive.

Speaker 1 (56:46):
What call it time out? You're the damn quarterback.

Speaker 5 (56:50):
The game is on the line, hanging in the balance,
call of damn time out to Miko leaving a game
that cruisier with two timeouts in his back.

Speaker 1 (56:58):
What were doing?

Speaker 4 (56:59):
Man?

Speaker 5 (57:02):
You guys have been gracious with your time. Let's go
to the phones. Friend of the station, friend of the show,
will go in order. I got who is that? Westside? Joe,
Tony Sugarland, Jamal Drew renfro kJ Here we go west side, Joe,
get him bum Joe?

Speaker 1 (57:19):
Will y'all eat what's up with him?

Speaker 9 (57:21):
Man?

Speaker 8 (57:21):
This college?

Speaker 1 (57:22):
Eat mc crow. First of all, you.

Speaker 8 (57:23):
Know what I'm saying, Hey, y'all, I'm a man, I'm
a word. I'm a man of my word.

Speaker 1 (57:27):
But how you hissing?

Speaker 16 (57:28):
Man?

Speaker 8 (57:29):
I still say, paulse both of you guys have great
points this morning. Man, But you gotta also remember, man,
we're just the second year of it all coming together,
first year of everybody being on a field without health,
injuries and everything.

Speaker 1 (57:43):
Man.

Speaker 8 (57:44):
But one of the things I wanted to point out
that was real critical to the game is the head coach. Man,
he's got to know it is the second game standing.
Remember the couple of games ago. It was something that
he didn't know that he was supposed to take care
of it. Take a time out at a certain point,
he didn't do it. Man, it's the same thing with
the play, the challenge thro the flag.

Speaker 1 (58:05):
Anyway, you have.

Speaker 8 (58:06):
Plenty of timeouts. What you're waiting for? Man, Three times
I said, he not a game. Man, y'all go ahead,
y'all have a great show going, Man, I hang up
in this man, My ma in Westside Joe, appreciate your
friend of the station, friend of the show.

Speaker 1 (58:19):
Tony and sugar Land get in here.

Speaker 8 (58:20):
Bro.

Speaker 1 (58:20):
What's up with it?

Speaker 8 (58:22):
Hey?

Speaker 4 (58:22):
Man?

Speaker 13 (58:23):
Before I even start with my point, let me just
ask you this question. Man, so you played the gang,
ask you a question the play of the offense. You
know favorites call about offense. Doesn't that come with like
a tection package as well?

Speaker 1 (58:41):
Does it come with a web package?

Speaker 13 (58:42):
A protection package?

Speaker 1 (58:43):
Oh yeah, yeah yeah.

Speaker 5 (58:45):
Every every play has like an ideal this is what
we want to do, and then within that you can,
like y'all do know, the offensive line can check out
the protections yo yo. So in other words, juice scrubs
can tell the rest of the old line. Hey, when
we broke the I know we wanted to fan this way,
check check based on what they're doing and to play

(59:05):
that CJ has called We're gonna now go this way.
Therefore we need to back to step up to the
left where he used to be able to go out
in the route. So all that communication is happening in
real time. Jamal and Memorial get in here your next up?

Speaker 20 (59:17):
Hey, what's going on y'all?

Speaker 4 (59:18):
Look?

Speaker 3 (59:18):
Okay, I'm gonna give you out of my first take
from a Hooper's perspective of I think everybody a little bit.
Everybody want to be Monday morning quarterback. It was it
was gonna be a tough game. Highvey looked at it now,
looking looking back at it, it's simple. The offensive line
play was terrible. We we couldn't. The offensive line play

(59:39):
was terrible. A lot of people talking about the play
calling at the end. I actually thought when they was
going on the last drive pre the two minute warning,
I thought they were doing they were running the ball
so well in moving the chains. I was like, dang,
we're gonna score. We're gonna score so quick that we're
gonna leave Green Bay with a lot of time.

Speaker 1 (59:57):
But then, you know, once.

Speaker 3 (59:59):
We got to the too many one and everything got stalled.
The only thing I would say, you know, my if
I had to do a pick on the whole game
was mit pick was the cause the flag, the challenge
flag that that Demico get a throw. Even on the telecast,
Tony Romo was saying that it looks like it might
it wouldn't have get overturned, but I think he still

(01:00:21):
throw it on GP, especially where he was Demko was jumping.

Speaker 4 (01:00:25):
On the sideline. They got a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
Yeah, like the defense was confused. So I would say
on that point, you know, throw the flag just to
get the team to defettled or whatever, or just the
challenge to play. But the offensive play was horrible. I'm
a go ahead and have confidence in the offense to
get it taken care of because you know, before we
had the issues with the penalties and they seem to

(01:00:50):
kind of get that righted. So now if we go
the next two because we got a like good three
four game stretch, that's an important stretch. If we go
to three games from now and the offense line is
still playing the same with us being about like at
the midpoint of the season, then it could you know,
you could, you could hit the emergency red button. But
right now, I'm gonna have the confidence in the offense

(01:01:11):
to get the od line shirt up but if you
want to just place the game or yesterday, it was
curlerently the offensive line player. And then I think on
the line. I'll leave y'all on this. I just really
think that they didn't have You know, they didn't have
when they ran the ball twice and they was like
second and twelve. The only thing I would have done
differently is at that point, just run it on third

(01:01:32):
down and have a burner time out.

Speaker 5 (01:01:34):
We said that open the show exactly. Well, I'm with
you on jam It made no sense. The third down
play call to Tangdale only makes sense if the Miko
and Bobby are on the same page. Regardless of what
happens on that play, We're going for the end zone
on fourth down. To hell with that field goal. Now,
if that that's not what I would have done, I
would have kicked the field goal too. But I'd be

(01:01:55):
damn if I wouldn't have made Lafloyd call that time out.
I just have to do that. Appreciate Jamal and more.
Let's see can we grab Tony sugar Land. Let's se
if we can finish you up?

Speaker 1 (01:02:03):
Brought him? Is it better? Yeah? I got you?

Speaker 4 (01:02:06):
Great?

Speaker 1 (01:02:06):
Great?

Speaker 13 (01:02:07):
So so yeah yeah, so so the whole thing.

Speaker 9 (01:02:09):
With the play calling and and not have and then
not have.

Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
Look, man, that the light.

Speaker 13 (01:02:13):
It's five men on the line may to see some
guy a tight end. They can't block eight people, bro,
like you can't. You can't expect it. I mean, the thing,
will me is everybody talking about the line. The offensive
line was bad, man, Listen. Mixon had one hundred over
one hundred yards rushing, two touchdowns. The offensive line wasn't
totally the the blaming look gord to go down, that
Goring to go down to Bobby flog Hill.

Speaker 1 (01:02:34):
This is this is what are you gonna do.

Speaker 6 (01:02:37):
Saying he's flawless, Tony, I'm just saying at the the
offense gave the defense they lead with less than two
minutes ago.

Speaker 1 (01:02:43):
You should win the defense of one point lead.

Speaker 8 (01:02:47):
And he's the.

Speaker 13 (01:02:51):
Drop before that drop before that what And they just
kept they just talked about the fact that.

Speaker 1 (01:02:56):
Why do you why are you throwing the ball on
the third down?

Speaker 6 (01:02:59):
Well, one, that burn of time out, I agree with
that burn a time out, But.

Speaker 1 (01:03:04):
That Bobby flowing that's offense.

Speaker 4 (01:03:06):
Bro.

Speaker 13 (01:03:06):
You can't say one you can't say one game.

Speaker 5 (01:03:10):
I mean, what.

Speaker 6 (01:03:12):
Let me this when they kicked the field goal, you
walked out the room and said, it's a loss. Say that,
I'm my bad. You were asking what get your question?
When they kicked the field goal, you walked out of
the room and said it's over. When did you go, oh,
we still got a chance to a likelihood. The likelihood
is they gotta go fifty yards to go get the
field goal range.

Speaker 5 (01:03:30):
All right, let's do this. Let's let's walk the opposite direction.
Who has the advantage in today's NFL The offense of
the defense depends what your strengths is, Oh, stop this, Gordy.

Speaker 6 (01:03:40):
Depends the way the game is designed to wheelers defense.
The rules state what the offense has the advantage.

Speaker 1 (01:03:47):
You know that.

Speaker 5 (01:03:49):
Now mix in their guy Matt Lafleur, who's been in
the title game, who knows the Miko in this defense
at least schematically, their quarterback, their skill position, versus five
defenders that don't start for the Texans.

Speaker 1 (01:04:07):
But that's just that's that's that's boohoo. Who excuses like
I'm watching the film right now? You went.

Speaker 6 (01:04:12):
You had a third and two on their first possession
of that last right.

Speaker 5 (01:04:16):
Who got the ball? Josh Jacobs, No, Josh who got
the ball?

Speaker 19 (01:04:21):
And two?

Speaker 6 (01:04:21):
It's it's a pass to on the final drive you're
talking about? Yes, hang, who gets the ball? I'll pull
it up. Third and two, Jordan Love finds Wicks. Eric
Murray whiffs on a tackle when he comes out of
his break. There's only one guy there, yeah, Eric Murray. Two,
there's two receivers with Jake Canssen in the territory. Jake

(01:04:41):
Canson goes to cover craft. Wicks comes out wide open.
The safeties are playing so deep on a third and
two that Eric Murray comes up. He whiffs on the
tackle and Derek Stingley has to make the tackle on
Wicks for thirteen mis field. But that right there, like
why are your safety's places? It's third to playing so deep?

Speaker 5 (01:05:03):
Because there guys, and listen, I have to look at
the tape and I know the TV copy can say
one thing. The all twenty two comes out, Jordan Loved
to wigs for thirteen yards to the Houston forty nine
hit it so thirty two they couldn't get off the field.
But does that surprise you? With five dudes that used

(01:05:25):
to being in that situation again? But who's who am
I missing? That that makes a player.

Speaker 6 (01:05:30):
You don't think Ezzy Shire makes more plays than j
Canson goes to cover the tight end. He does what
he needs to do. If you got different personnel, you can.

Speaker 1 (01:05:38):
Call different than Eric Murray still playing safety.

Speaker 6 (01:05:40):
Listen, listening, Eric Murray still playing safety even with those
other five guys.

Speaker 5 (01:05:44):
No, maybe Jimmy Ward in that formation. Jimmy Wall's film
study tells Eric Murray, No, you go cover the slide Petrick,
you go down to the wheel linebacker, and then I
will swip responsibilities. And maybe that's Jimmy Ward there. We
don't know because the personnel wasn't there. That's the point.
So I got okay, we're way over. Come back on
the other side, we'll grab who we got. We still

(01:06:05):
got to get renfro Drew kJ Wood up on the
north side Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Ninety, Who's got next, what's coming next?

Speaker 1 (01:06:16):
What do you do next?

Speaker 2 (01:06:18):
And who's gotta take it to the next level? Back
to Staton Northfleet and Chris Gordy. This is next up
by Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:06:30):
I like this track.

Speaker 5 (01:06:31):
Every college football program in the country plays this duror
coming out of a TV timeout.

Speaker 1 (01:06:36):
What's going on?

Speaker 5 (01:06:37):
Man, welcome back to next twenty four minutes from now,
Matt Thomas and Ross.

Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
To the and see a video game.

Speaker 5 (01:06:42):
By the way, we listen, nice Stan Fleet, Me, Chris Gordy,
him Houston. You've been excellent with your time today. And look, yes,
it's easy to play armchair Monday Morning Quarterback and all that.
But some of these things if you listen to the
show every day, which you should, by the way, at
least the podcast courtesy of the free iHeartRadio apps, you
go back and listen. Gordon and I cover a lot

(01:07:04):
of this. I'm real big on predictions. I think to
do the job that we do, it's easy to react.
Tell me what you think is gonna happen, and then
we'll measure how often you are right versus wrong. I
didn't think the Texans, giving the personnel, could go in
here and do this.

Speaker 1 (01:07:23):
I just didn't.

Speaker 5 (01:07:23):
I have too much respect for Lafloyd, Jordan Love and
those weapons and lambeau Field. Quite frankly, Demiko was shorthanded.
It was a gift from the Lord that Hewitt got
that interception on the opening drive. But like, notice the
difference the Texans on the road at Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (01:07:43):
CJ.

Speaker 5 (01:07:43):
Gets the ball bat it turns it to an interception.
Texans would never respond. Jordan Love throws the interception granted
at home, and his team wins the ball game. Now,
there are a lot of other things that happened, but
like that's the mark of a good team. Can you
withstand whether it be the emotional or the cavalcade of

(01:08:05):
plays and sustain. Jordan Love was able to keep his
offense and they sustain. Joe Mixon can play for me
any day of the week. I have become more of
a Joe Mixon fan, big Joe Mixon fan. He fits
in any offense Love Joe. Does this team miss Nico Collins? Yep?

Speaker 6 (01:08:26):
But Nico Collins not being there, ain't got a damn
thing to do with only one receiver on your team
having multiple catches.

Speaker 5 (01:08:33):
His name is Steph dig Yeah. I know there was
the dust up with Jaya Alexander. You know what was
twenty minutes before a kick. I really don't care about
that right now. What I care about is Bobby Sloyd
and not being able to make second adjustments because this
team can't score, Like.

Speaker 1 (01:08:49):
You can't, gord To you said it.

Speaker 5 (01:08:51):
You cannot live every week with Kymi Fairbard having to
bail your ass out.

Speaker 6 (01:08:56):
He was well on his way to another AFC specialty.

Speaker 5 (01:09:00):
Payne like, can we get in the end zone? Yes,
mix and I know you got in the end zone twice, brother,
thank you for doing so. Oh and there was an
air on my part. But I'm also going to punctuate
something I said. Yes, the Texans did win the time
of possession battle. The Texans did not win the yards
per play battle. I was incorrect there. Green Bay had
a one point five yard per play at vantage. But

(01:09:22):
you know something else to tell of this game that
we hadn't talked about. The Texans were two for four
in the red zone, meaning touchdowns. You gotta score when
you get down there, three takeaways. They scored sixteen points.
All the while my quarterback is getting his head knocked off.
It just bothers me how much contact CJ Striders taken.
And then when CJ sprambles on his own get down

(01:09:44):
on the sideline. Did you see the shot?

Speaker 6 (01:09:46):
Somebody's hitting him in the head and his leg is
all contorted back, he's taking a body shot.

Speaker 1 (01:09:51):
Get down, Cole Ridge, ren fro Mo City.

Speaker 20 (01:09:55):
You're up, Yes, you bought up a good point, and
someone better talk to him and telling him to learn
how to get down and everything that's so he won't
be lasting too long, especially when you have an offensive
line that for whatever reason, your offensive scheme is not
being generated to help him get the ball out of
his hands a lot faster when you see the opposition

(01:10:17):
that you're up with the defensive of Green Bay, but
we disposition to win the game. I'm agree with staying
on that end. But for the matter is, and I
think you understand what I'm saying right here, standing is
that we know who the better offensive coordinator was in
that particular game. Green Bay just had the offensive coordinator,

(01:10:38):
and by being off of the Carter last drive, he
looking at his sheet field of the game, he know
what's going on. He knows where our weakness is throughout
the course of the game, and he's saved it for
just that moment having that last drive. And they executed
a lot better on that drive because of what the
experience that not only the quarterback fens and the offense,

(01:11:00):
and the most important board was the offensive quarter which
he's definitely head and shows above by the short Now,
I'm still giving this one more year to kind of
get because he do not know how to mess us.

Speaker 1 (01:11:14):
He's renfro.

Speaker 5 (01:11:15):
I had to let you go, Bro. You got a
bit bumpy there, but we got the gist of what
you were saying. Let's go on the west side. Drew
in West Chase, Good morning.

Speaker 1 (01:11:23):
They really good y'all.

Speaker 4 (01:11:24):
I appreciate you having beyond and saying you hit the
nail on the head with it.

Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
For me.

Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
You talked about the three takeaways. I put it at
four with the tough punt. You got four times that
the defense or special teams or them combined gave you
the ball back and all you had to show for
was twenty two points four turnovers. Twenty two points. That's
that's unacceptable. I mean, you know, people come on, try
to be Monday one if you give. But that's just

(01:11:52):
basic football. You got to capitalize on turnovers when when
your defense does the work, you get see the ball
back like that. But you're on top of that.

Speaker 1 (01:12:00):
Know what else is BA football?

Speaker 8 (01:12:01):
Drew?

Speaker 6 (01:12:01):
When you got to lead with less than two minutes ago,
hold down that hill. I mean, you're the space space.

Speaker 4 (01:12:09):
But but you wouldn't you wouldn't have you wouldn't you
wouldn't be in that situation, if you.

Speaker 1 (01:12:17):
Don't get the win, stop and.

Speaker 4 (01:12:18):
Get that's like that's that's like you know, looking at
a fire and being mad at the firefighters and not
being able to control it and not putting the blame
on the arses. The problem was.

Speaker 1 (01:12:29):
The offerings couldn't do because the fire was under control.

Speaker 4 (01:12:33):
Ele, the fire was the fire is not under control.
Because the fire was not under control, you had to lead. Yeah,
but what two points?

Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
Yeah right?

Speaker 4 (01:12:43):
The lead to me is the lead to me is
a touchdown. The lead to me is, you know, being
put in the position to where you're not putting your
defense in a crazy position like that.

Speaker 6 (01:12:54):
Crazy green Bay start start with the ball where a
green Bay start with the ball.

Speaker 1 (01:12:58):
In that last possession it was a touch back.

Speaker 6 (01:13:02):
They started with the bout the third defense not to
let us get fifty yards again the field.

Speaker 5 (01:13:08):
You're up against the brother, I do appreciate your calling
in man, feel free to do so.

Speaker 1 (01:13:11):
Moving the yards. So God, here's what we're trying to
say to you. I understand what you're saying. Hear me out.
The defense played above their heads.

Speaker 6 (01:13:19):
You're saying on the last possession, yes, go play above
your head.

Speaker 1 (01:13:25):
No go be a good defense and get a sticker.

Speaker 5 (01:13:27):
They're not a good defense when half the guys aren't
used to being out there.

Speaker 6 (01:13:32):
And Dale Hunter and Will Anderson and that's Taylor Petree.

Speaker 5 (01:13:37):
What about the other hand bullet there? Missing the point?
Kaylen Bullock is not a starter, even though he's a baller.
He's been startingel like, what are we doing?

Speaker 1 (01:13:46):
Murray's out there? He starts, I mean, like what you
can't do that? Bro?

Speaker 6 (01:13:50):
You can, Bro, you can't brow football? Bro, They didn't
you sound crazy as hell? You sound crazy. Every team
go fifty yards back up, slit that sink in.

Speaker 1 (01:14:03):
Kamari Lassier is out there and makes a difference. You
didn't even like the guy. You don't even want to.

Speaker 5 (01:14:07):
I'm just saying you like, no, you if the San
Francisco forty nine ers were starting a Super Bowl with
five backups, you would not pick them to win the
Super Bowl?

Speaker 6 (01:14:17):
Please?

Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
What are we doing? Wait? So we had all show
yours out? Give me the other stars.

Speaker 5 (01:14:22):
Jimmy war to Toe, Lassiter, war Asease, Mario Edwards Junior.

Speaker 1 (01:14:29):
That's five s. Edwards Junior is gonna make a difference
that he could.

Speaker 5 (01:14:33):
He was getting rid of the ball to invest interioror
defensive lineman.

Speaker 6 (01:14:37):
They I'm willing to hear that if you got Will
Anderson and Daniel Hunter out and go man, you couldn't
get any pressure. But they were still playing. Sometimes you
Derek Stingley, he's their best cover corner, right.

Speaker 1 (01:14:47):
So he was in there. He was in there. Sometimes
you get in these moments and I just don't. I
think you're making excuses. This is football to be good.

Speaker 6 (01:14:58):
If they're good when they they have their personnel. There
are five dudes and we didn't even count Christian Harris.
So Derek Stingley can't cover Romeo Dobbins because Kamari Lassier
is out.

Speaker 5 (01:15:08):
It may because I may not be Stingley's responsibility to
cover Dobbs in that formation. See, you're taking out of
consideration and we just looked at it. You and were
way over, But we looked at some film. You said
staying why they in quarters coverage and why they backing
up and all the stuff I said, because Matt Lafleur
put Domko in a pickle given the personnel. They came

(01:15:29):
out in a two by two with Jacobs in the backfield.
They ran a route combination and Jake Hansen. They were
playing off of him. If Hanson goes.

Speaker 6 (01:15:37):
Out throwing the ball in, they're throwing the ball out.
Is Eric Murray's playing thirty five yards? That's the defense
they're in.

Speaker 5 (01:15:45):
Maybe if Jimmy Ward and Disease and more veteran guys
are in there, or guys with more ability Kamar Lassiter
than some of those.

Speaker 6 (01:15:53):
Other guyto just called, He's sending you a gift card
for making all the excuses for him in his defense.

Speaker 5 (01:15:58):
No, Demiko and Greg Cosel and everybody else that watches
Tate is gonna call and tell me thank you Fleet
for talking about the astroverts.

Speaker 1 (01:16:05):
Just put you on this Christmas card list, he said,
I owe you one. Sam. There's stride, it was the offensive.
They're a one point lead.

Speaker 5 (01:16:11):
There's fandom, there's fantasy, and then there's those of us
that actually have been taught and or played the nuances
of the game.

Speaker 1 (01:16:19):
Was that good defense in the funnel minute.

Speaker 5 (01:16:21):
I'm not gonna say it was good defense, But I
don't expect guys that have played over their heads for
forty eight minutes to then turn around fifty eight minutes
to then turn around and go be great again. Hundred
yard stride is the best player. The best player on
the Texans didn't get the ball in the end.

Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
Though I agree with that, disagree.

Speaker 5 (01:16:41):
If this team is going to win a super Bowl,
it's gonna because the guy that wears seven got his
team in the big rectangle on the field.

Speaker 1 (01:16:47):
They didn't do that because they told the Super Bowl
your team may be asked to get a defensive stop
in the.

Speaker 5 (01:16:52):
Final nine team in the league, you would have confidence
in if they had five reserves going to get a
stop versus Jordan Love caliber quarterback. I repeat, if the
San Francisco forty nine is we're in that same situation
and Fred Warner wasn't in the game, you would not
say they were gonna get a stop. You wouldn't. So
why would we do that to the make of the teams?
The defense?

Speaker 6 (01:17:13):
Straight this tam CJ stround, the offense didn't score, so defense,
all that money spent on Daniel Hunters and top three
of the defense, he's a beam. Maybe I'll just have
high expectations of them.

Speaker 1 (01:17:26):
Too high.

Speaker 5 (01:17:27):
I know you have some reasonable expectations in this moment,
the nuances of pressure get a stop. Where are we at, Connor?
You need me to get out, don't you sorry? All right,
we'll come back, would Neil Wesley on the other side,
we'll wrap up Fleet.

Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
Gordon'll argue doing the break too. Sport's Talk seven.

Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
Ninety next up continues on your computer. Listen to Sports
Talk seven ninety on any device with our free iHeartRadio

Speaker 5 (01:17:55):
Right, appreciate y'all hanging with Gordon and I. This should
be a pay off for the conversations during the break.
Seven three, two five, seven ninety is the number that
Wood has called. We'll get ready to wrap up. Get
you over to Matt Thomas and Rossville Reality Wood up
on the north.

Speaker 1 (01:18:10):
What's happening?

Speaker 17 (01:18:12):
I am a true historian of football up fan for
the Natty. I have four TVs in my room and
I go over to film left and right. I'll watch
everything there is a watch about football, thirty to thirty,
everything that's going on. And like I told you before,
CJ should have.

Speaker 21 (01:18:29):
Spent less time on them.

Speaker 17 (01:18:30):
Badcasts in Molacco and more.

Speaker 21 (01:18:33):
Time with his office alignment and his receivers where he
could work on those bliss coming in because you got
to work. This is what make great great quarterbacks. Satan
manning tom Brady. This is what ray Lewis would telling reed,
come to my house so we can go over the film.
We're gonna go over this film so you can learn
these deep offenses what we're gonna do to them. This

(01:18:56):
is what Elliman said when Tom Brady would go on vacation,
rent a field, fly them out at the receiver, and
then they will go out there and work on plays.
This is what you have to do to become great.
What you have to understand. We had free page on
the offensive line. When they've jumped outside. Whate' a rogers

(01:19:16):
do somebody's jump outside. He gotta land going defot dust sound.
You got to realize you practiced this. You go over
these things, you work on this. If you get your
keep your office together, you tell them these are the
things we gotta do. We got a playper that the
office want anybody work with. But I'm gonna get your
boys together. We're gonna become great. We're gonna be a unit.

(01:19:38):
We're gonna work as one. If somebody's blessing, and we're
gonna know who's blessing if somebody is free, my man,
I say tell it. I got to get this ball.

Speaker 20 (01:19:47):
Out of my hands quick.

Speaker 6 (01:19:50):
Hey would We're up against it, brother, But I do
understand your passion, and to be fair, CJ. Stroud has
invited and the guys have gone to California, to Los
Angeles to work out with him.

Speaker 1 (01:20:01):
In the off season.

Speaker 6 (01:20:02):
He threw the ball to Stefan Diggs when they were
a fashion week in.

Speaker 5 (01:20:05):
Paris and others. He was in Morocco. Yes, he did
work out while he was there. He took the train
and stuff there. I don't think the guys joined him
in Morocco, and I don't think the guys went with
him to Asia. But when he's bouncing around going to
what was he at last year, going to the NBA
All Star.

Speaker 6 (01:20:20):
Game, the NBA A celebrity game, the Home Run Derby,
he moves around Amber Rose, giving a ride back to
the hotel.

Speaker 1 (01:20:31):
Listen to He added some points this off season and.

Speaker 6 (01:20:34):
This Michael Parson's Podcastcha Parsons Podcast.

Speaker 5 (01:20:37):
But I've also seen it put the work in, so
I can't say that now sophomore slump the offensive line
And this is kind of final remark for me.

Speaker 1 (01:20:47):
Green Bay sack CJ. Stroud four times.

Speaker 5 (01:20:51):
They pressured him on forty eight point three percent of
his drop packs. Most of the throws from CJ had
to come out quickly, so I hear you would when
you say they jump off sides, throw the ball. CJ
had no time. CJ's eyes and he doesn't flinch a lot.
CJ's eyes for the first time, weren't downfield.

Speaker 1 (01:21:12):
They were at that rush.

Speaker 5 (01:21:14):
And at some point, when you rush effectively enough, you
don't have the blitz to do it. You just have
to give the illusion. Jeff Halfley handed Bobby Sloyd his
ASD like Jeff Hafley, a college head coach in the NFL,
absolutely destroyed Bobby Sloyd.

Speaker 1 (01:21:35):
CJ.

Speaker 5 (01:21:36):
Stroud was only blitzed five times on Stroud's twenty five dropbacks.
They made CJ believe they were blitzing, but the pressure.
Oh and I didn't even get to the eleven tackles
for lost. Okay, go to WEP against the quick one
by you close.

Speaker 6 (01:21:48):
And remark, uh, there is blame to go all around.
At the end of the day, you lost the closer
one by one score. This one stings a lot more
than you know. You go get obliterated by Minnesota AU
never in that game you lose this one. These sting
more and I know people, oh we're close, Oh, they're
so close. These hurt more than the bun of blaw
lost because the ball loss, you burn the film you

(01:22:10):
move on.

Speaker 1 (01:22:11):
Losing a close game like this. These stings because.

Speaker 5 (01:22:13):
You wonder, what if there's still enough stuffs at NRG
to win a division We get in the postseason and
in every that rush and at some point when you
rush effectively enough you don't have the blitz to do it.
You just have to give the illusion. Jeff Halfley handed
Bobby Sloyd his ad like Jeff Halfley, a college head

(01:22:37):
coach in the NFL, absolutely destroyed Bobby Sloyd.

Speaker 4 (01:22:41):
C J.

Speaker 5 (01:22:42):
Stroud was only blitzed five times on Striud's twenty five dropbacks.
They made CJ believe they were blitzing. But the pressure.
Oh and I didn't even get to the eleven tackles
for lost. Okay, go to weep against the quick one
by you close and remark, uh, there is blame to
go all around. At the end of the day, you
lost the closer one by one score. This one stings
a lot more than you know. You go get obliterated

(01:23:04):
by Minnesota A. You were never in that game.

Speaker 6 (01:23:07):
You lose this one, These sting more and I know people,
Oh we're close, Oh they're so close. These hurt more
than the b of blaw a loss because the ball loss,
you burn the film.

Speaker 1 (01:23:16):
You move on. Losing a close game like this, these
stings because you wonder what.

Speaker 5 (01:23:20):
If there's still enough studs at NRG to win a division?
We get in the postseason and in everything resets. Good sir.
