Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well everyone, and welcome to another edition of the NFL
Draft Triple Take, presented by U P m C. Mike
pursued of Matt Williamson and Dale Lally, the three amigos
of draft prep. We have been getting you ready. We
will continue getting you ready, and that process will continue
today with our Triple Take look at Linebackers. The NFL
Draft Triple Take presented by U P m C. And guys,

(00:24):
we've been getting into the defense of late and uh
it's deep, and uh it's intriguing. Uh. Position by position,
it just looks like, Uh, Dale, if you need some
help on d this is the year to go find it. Yeah,
and I know you know everybody knows you're the guys
at the top are in this. In this inside linebacker class,

(00:44):
I think we probably all have Devin Lloyd and the
Kobe Dean up top, and then after that it's almost
like the edge rushers, where there are probably eight to
ten guys that they could have made your our top five.
I mean, this was really a hard class to trim here.
Depending on what you're looking at, I could I could
have easily gone to ten players deep at the inside

(01:05):
linebacker position, and they're probably all ten of them go,
you know, the middle of day two and up are
you know, these guys are all gone by the middle
of the day too. So it's a really intriguing class.
There's big ones, they're small ones, there's all of them
are fast. That's just it's just amazing that that uh
you know, the transformation that's gone on in the college

(01:26):
football game. Uh you know to where a few years
ago you really had to if you wanted one of
these off ball linebackers that could run, you had to
go get them early. Now there's the drafted just littered
with them. Yeah, there might not big Matt, there might
not be a Darius Leonard in there, but uh boy,
there's a lot of To Dale's point, there's a couple
of years ago there was two that everybody was, you know,

(01:48):
you gotta get one of those guys, and now you know,
now there's more to choose from. There's three at Georgia.
It's crazy. Yeah. Obviously we talked about Georgia a lot
with the defensive front um. I don't love the top,
but as we talked about on the drive all the time,
I don't hesitate to bring it up every show. If
I can, I am utterly infatuated with the day to

(02:10):
linebacker crop crop. I mean, there are so many of them,
as Dale said, there's the former safeties that are two
pounds a fly around the field. There's you know, four
of my five and four of my top five or
over six two long arms, unbelievable testers, a lot of
good football ahead of this group. Yeah, let's uh, let's

(02:31):
get into it. And Dale, why don't you lead us off?
You've got a pretty interesting guy. Uh, linebacker from Wisconsin
wild who who who knew? Who knew? Yeah? Leo Chanal
uh six three two fifty pounds at the combine ran
a four five three forty ten years ago. Leo Channel
at six two fifty pounds running a four or five

(02:53):
three forty is a first round draft pick. I mean
the guy had eight eight sacks last year, eighteen and
a half tackles for a lot hundred and fifteen tackles.
He's a run stuffer and probably you know, he's gonna
have to learn a little bit of the past coverage stuff,
but he's got the traits to do it, and you
know there are things that you can do with him
in the meantime. Have him rushed the pass up the mid.

(03:15):
I likened him to being a bigger, faster version of
Vince Williams, like much, a much bigger faster version of
Vince Weed. Let's sing up the middle. He is unbelievable.
He is just unbelievable, blitzing, blitzing the A and B gaps.
You know what I like about him? Not only is
he your number five inside linebacker off ball linebacker. He
wore number five. There it is for Bucky Badger. And

(03:37):
you know what that makes him? Sal number five? Nice,
gonna be here all weeks. Please stip your bartenders and waitress.
It's matt Uh. You went between the headges. I guess
you need a defensive guy. Go down to Georgia. Pick one. Yeah,
I'll take the six four guy that's a little over

(03:57):
two hundred forty pounds that runs like a d year
long arms kuay walker, Um again, I mean kindall's the
other one that didn't make my list. And we've already
mentioned you know that's the backup, right, Yeah, he's the backup,
the backup right. And that's what I was gonna say
is it's hard to even get on the field for
these guys. He may play a higher percentage of snaps

(04:18):
in the pros than he did. Yeah, that's real. I
went off the board a little bit. Uh. Troy Anderson,
Montana State. Love Troy Anderson six three to forty three.
And he just keeps doing it. You know, if you
play the place like Montana State, you're supposed to dominate.
He did. Then you're supposed to go to the senior

(04:38):
bowling and stick it to the big boys, and he
did that. And then he went to the Combine and
just look great. Uh. For he's fascinating. I know if
you know much about his backstory, Mike, he was a
quarterback for them, and a running back and running back
and good and a good one. He has a record
for touchdowns in a season and he's a linebacker. It's

(05:00):
just an unbelievable story. And then you know ran in
the low four threes at the Combine. Um. Just a
fascinating guy and and has sized the whole deal. Again,
tough leaving guys like that off my list, but it
just shows you how deep this position is. My four
and Matt's for Chad MoMA of Wyoming, and really that
took a look at him. Sixty nine looks a lot

(05:21):
like Logan Wilson played Logan Wilson's position of Miami Logan
Wilson did really well as a brook. Okay, run it back,
but I think we know what we're gonna get and
you'll take that all day long. I mean it's a
really good linebacker the Bengals found. Um Muma is another
tall guy, also a former safety. Excellent and coverage. One
thing fort vertical too. I mean, it's not like he's

(05:43):
just a tenacious dude, which he is. He's also a
very explosive athlete. One thing that worries me a little
bit about him is his waist. He's kind of a
high waisted guy, and when people go after his legs,
they chop him down a little bit. That's something he's
gonna have to kind of pay attention to. Tail. You're
number four is the Moon Clark from L s U. Yeah,
I mean you want to talk about leadership, This guy

(06:06):
was given a number eighteen jersey at l s U
two years in a row. It's never happened before. Nobody's
ever gotten the eighteen jersey at L s U two
years in a row. Uh. A hundred thirty five tackles
last year, five and a half sacks, an interception, fifteen
tackles for a loss, uh, four or five, seven, forty
at the combine. I mean he just does everything well.

(06:27):
Uh you know, maybe not gonna wow you, but he's
got good size at at six two to thirty nine.
And then I mentioned that he wore the eighteen jersey
at l s U two years in a row. I
mean for people to show, no, that is there uh
kind of players player, the heart and soul guy. Uh,
the guy everybody loves and follows, and it's a big

(06:48):
deal down there. Uh to where that number I did.
It was a center a couple of years ago. Uh,
he couldn't wear it because he was an offensive lineman.
But he wore a patch. Was the name Qui Barrier,
quis Art or Quissonberry. Yeah it was Quissonberry. It was
um yeah he had ye. Now Quissinberry was a closer

(07:09):
for the Royal spec Yeah yeah, yeah, that three. I
love him. I mean for all those reasons. He ran
a four or five seven. That's actually one of the
things I like about doing these shows, and you come
up with these little tidbits about the college programs and
the little traditions and whatnot. I went with my number three.
I went with a guy you guys did not, Uh,

(07:31):
Christian Harris from Alabama. Uh, six ft twenty six, a
smaller guy. But when I watched him, he just looked
like he knew what was going on everywhere at all times.
He was able to react and figure out where he
needed to be. And again, uh burst and and and
he gets there in a hurry. Hed he not only covers,
he makes plagues on the ball. Uh. I don't think

(07:52):
you're gonna go wrong with an Alabama defender, a highly
rated one, and uh I pick him. I agree that. Uh.
And then our numbers two and one. Uh, everybody's got
the same thing. Uh. Dale, you went with na Kobe
Dean at Georgia and two and Devin Lloyd at one. Matt,
you had it the other way, Devin Lloyd at two

(08:14):
and the Kobe Dean at one. And I've gotten to
Kobe Dean at two and Devin Lloyd at one. I
don't think it really matters. I had a really tough
time picking, and to be honest, I kind of I'm
harping on the negatives with both. Unfortunately, you know, again
I said, I don't love the top of this class.
These are two really good players, don't get me wrong,
but I would have liked Lloyd to test a little

(08:35):
bit better, you know. I mean he was okay, but
didn't blow the doors off there. And maybe you talk
only only the four sixes he ran. That was it
FO six And then Dean didn't work out. But he's
so little, you know. Like my my opinion of both
these guys over the weekend with the combine went down
a little because Dean just standing there next to the

(08:57):
other linebackers looked very very small and and and lean.
But boy, I mean when you protect them like Georgia
does with the unbelievable guys in front of him, he
like makes every play. And I think you know something
to appreciate about Lloyd. You know, we've talked a lot
about Georgia during these shows and Alabama every year we've

(09:17):
done these shows. I think that Utah program pretty underrated.
They got a pretty good rep for toughness and knock
your block off, and accountability and compete and a lot
of those intangible qualities that a lot of programs aspired to.
I think, uh, I agree, I think you taw us
an underrated program and uh, that's kind of what broke that,
and that broke the tie for me and the Kobe

(09:39):
Dean dot not really doing anything at the combine. Yeah,
I mean, if you look at it, devn Lloyd fills
up all the categories hundred eleven tackles, seven sacks, four
interceptions last year. I mean, what more could the guy
do other than you know, serve everybody hot dogs at halftime?
Uh utah. Just he did a lot of good stuff.
Forty three tackles for a loss in his last three seasons.

(09:59):
I mean he just he just said up camp in
the backfield and lives there. He's a one man show. Yeah,
so plenty to choose from there as well. And uh,
what other thing about n Kobe Dean? He was a
mechanical engineering major. You know, you're you're a major college
football player and you're a mechanical engineering major. That is

(10:19):
not easy to pull off, and you win the Buckets Award,
and you win the Buckets Award. I would imagine if
you're a mechanical engineering major and you're not a college
football player, that is not but my pay grade. I
know that. Guys, this is fun. We will do it
again soon. I want to thank everybody for finding us,

(10:39):
however and wherever you did, and remind one and all
that all of these programs can be found on all
of the Steelers social media platforms. Until next time. For
Dale Lally and Matt Williamson, I'm Mike PURSUITA. This has
been the NFL Draft Triple Take, presented by U P
