People pleasing is generally defined as having an urge to please others, oftentimes putting other people’s needs ahead of your own.
The reasons for doing so can be multiple: low self-esteem, anxiety, trying to avoid conflict… Or maybe you're just trying to be generous.
Even though wanting to do things for others is a positive trait, sometimes this can create a lot of imbalance in relationships. If you constantly take on the role of the "pleaser"/"giver", you may end up only attracting people who are willing to "receive"/"take", oftentimes leaving you feeling empty. However, as we practice self-love and choose our social circle more intentionally, we learn to naturally give without needing or wanting anything back, which is what true generosity is.
In today's conversation, we'll: - discuss the most common habits of people-pleasers - evaluate if we're people-pleasers - analyze how we may attract toxic relationships by people pleasing - reflect on how to break people pleasing habits - introduce the importance of self-love - talk about what it really means to be generous
