(00:00):
And that scene just like, made me jump, like how hard she hit
Piper in the head. Like it was crazy.
Like I was like, Oh my God, whatwhat is happening?
Like I didn't expect that. I expected something, but I did
not expect that. In an overgrowded graveyard, the
scream will rise. Schoolmates Entertainment

(00:23):
presents not. Another.
Spooky. Podcast Welcome back to Not
Another Spooky podcast where we watch horror movies and talk
about all the spooky things theymake us think about.
I'm Mandy Spooks. And I'm Rabbit loves horror, and
we're just two spooky besties keeping the spook alive, one
bloody popcorn bucket at a time.Every week we fango over a

(00:46):
horror movie and have fun with spooky chats related to the
theme of it. We'll always give you a spoiler
warning before we get into the guts of the movie, but the
spooky chats start right away. Think of it as come for the
horror and stay for the spooky bestie chatter.
If you're tuning in for the first time, you can catch us on
all podcast platforms and YouTube, so drop a popcorn emoji

(01:08):
in the comments if you're tuningin on YouTube or Spotify.
Today, we're grave digging in tobring her back.
If you ever want to know what film we're covering next, you
can check the show notes to see what you should watch that
weekend. To set the vibe for this
episode, we'll start with a round of.
Tombstone Trivia. OK, so we're still working

(01:28):
through our Tombstone trivia segment set up.
So Rabbit suggested that we eachdo a question this time so that
we can kind of make it last a little bit longer because it
felt rushed and short last time.So I'm going to let you go first
with your question, OK? Yes, so I felt like when we did
the trivia the last time, it wasonly one question and I feel

(01:50):
like the question was so lonely like itself.
I was like, we need to add a little bit more.
So I kind of spiced it up a little.
Instead of a question or open-ended question, I wanted to
do a true or false trivia question.
Oh, OK. So you might know it or you
might not, but I think it's still interesting.
OK. So here we go.

(02:11):
Is a pumpkin a fruit or yeah, isa pumpkin a fruit?
OK, you didn't go the horror route.
I like it. I went spooky.
True. Yes, so it is true.
So I found this little blurb andI guess it has to do something.

(02:35):
Or how the way that a plant or thing that we eat is how they
grow. So a fruit relies on pollination
of a flower, and I guess. Yeah.
And pumpkins require a flower tobe pollinated and for it to turn
into a pumpkin. So I thought that was
interesting. I learned that today.
Yeah, that is interesting. Did you think of that question
randomly? No.

(02:57):
I. Searched for it, but I thought,
I always thought you knew something was a fruit because of
the seeds, but I guess that's not true.
It's because of the pollination of the flower.
So that's news to me. Interesting.
I don't know anything about gardening and all those things,
so I'm surprised I got it right.Good job.

(03:18):
OK, yours. OK, let's see.
What is the name of the biological weapon used to kill
the people through their water supply in the movie The Crazies?
Oh my gosh. OK, so this is my fault.
I told you to pick one that you think I wouldn't know.

(03:38):
Yeah. And I don't know.
I don't think I've seen the movie.
You've never seen the Crazies? OK, well I've seen the remake
because I think there's two now,but I don't even remember this.
I haven't seen it since like college.
Do you want the answer now or doyou want to save it till the
end? Let's save it to the end.

(04:00):
OK, comment down below if you guys know the answer to this
question. No Google Ink.
OK, well, you'll have to remind me to revisit it.
OK, all right, let's get into some.
Haunted. Housekeeping.
All right, ghosters, we've got afew spooky updates for you and

(04:22):
we're so excited to share them. Can you believe we're already
creeping up on our 12th episode next week?
We've been having a blast chatting whore with each other
and with you every week. So to make sure the show stays
sustainable for us and keeps getting even better, we've
decided to work in 12 episode seasons.
But don't worry, our first breakwon't be long and Season 2 is

(04:44):
already brewing with some fun surprises.
First, we'd love your feedback. There's a short listener survey
LinkedIn our show notes, and we'd really appreciate it if
you'd fill it out. It helps us shape the spooky
future of the show. Second, you may have noticed our
opening notes had a small shift,or not so small.
After we actually said them out loud, we realized it felt very

(05:04):
different. But we're starting to transition
into our Season 2 vibe and we'llbe adding a few more small
spooky improvements when we officially kick off next month.
Next week we're covering Megan to gear up for Megan 2 point O.
Then we're taking a short break and returning for Season 2 on
June 30th, kicking off by fangirling over 28 years later.

(05:28):
You'll notice this is an entire week after the movie release,
and that'll give us a little more time to work on the episode
and give you more time to see the movie before we spoil it.
I don't want to give too much away, but I have realized that
some of the magic from my original Goal Mates podcast with
Mr. Spooks and the earliest episodes of Not Another Spooky
Podcast had a different kind of vibe and variety and I'm ready

(05:49):
to bring bring back some of thatenergy to this show now.
So buckle up and get caught up on Season 1, because season 2 is
just around the corner and it's full of spooky fun chatter and
bestie energy. Yes.
So I do want to add that I am sohappy that we made it to 12
episodes. Yeah, I'm, I'm kind of proud of

(06:10):
myself. I'm not gonna lie.
I'm proud of you too. When I feel like you've done
this before and this is like my first time doing something like
this. So snaps for me, snaps for that.
Like I said before, yeah, like Isaid before, I'm not really
somebody who likes to be in the spotlight.
So this has been different, but I have really enjoyed myself

(06:33):
recording all these episodes so thank you for dragging me along
this ride. Yeah, no, it's been great having
you. Honestly, I I'm over the moon
about chatting with my spooky bestie every week.
I know. Thank you.
I'm also really excited for the upcoming changes in the new
season. It's not super, super different.

(06:54):
It's kind of like a mix of everything that you've done and
we're kind of like kind of incorporating it into this
podcast. So it's just adding it with a
little twist and I love a littletwist and and yes, looking
forward to giving ourselves moretime to actually create the
episode, not only for me, but also for everyone else involved.

(07:16):
So it gives everyone a full weekto catch up on a new release if
it's a new movie. And I feel like recently it's
been like crunch time every weekend, especially for you and
Mr. Spooks, having to record, edit the sound, edit the video,
and then have all that ready to go for Monday morning.

(07:36):
So I feel like this will give usjust like a breath of air
between the week and it gives usthe time to, you know, still
enjoy creating the episode. Yeah, for sure.
I think it's funny, I sent rabbit Instagram yesterday of
this, these girls. I don't even remember no.
Or was it a TikTok of these girls that were like, we created

(07:56):
a fake account about cooking on spying on people and then we got
orders and now we have to make them.
And that's kind of how I felt. I was like, let's make a podcast
and then we're 12 episodes and I'm like, oh, we have to do this
like every week. Yes, it was very like, oh, let's
do, let's do what episode? And they kind of just snowballed
into this whole thing where we have this whole structure that

(08:17):
we have to do during the weekend.
So yeah, it was funny. Yeah, yeah, so.
But it has been very fun and I know some of you, many of you,
thank you so much for your continued support on my journey.
I have this habit of getting excited and then realizing like,
Oh no, I've taken on too much. But that's why like, I want this
to work long term. And I think having Rabbit keeps

(08:39):
me accountable too of just like, okay, I have like another person
counting on me and I also reallylook forward to talking to him.
So I want this to work long term.
It's the best formula we've had so far.
Yes, I want this to last for a very long time.
All right. Oh, and I almost forgot.

(08:59):
The algorithm is still riding the struggle bus with this shift
in our podcast. So we would really appreciate if
you guys would leave us a five star review on Apple and rate US
on Spotify. It would help just tell the
algorithms like, hey, this show is great.
I'm enjoying it. I want more people to know about
it. So please leave us a review.
It would mean a great big deal to us and help us stay motivated

(09:22):
on those weeks where we're just riding the struggle, struggle
bus, you know? All right, let's get into our
favorite chat of the week, keeping the spook alive.
It's alive. It's.
Alive. All right, Rabbit, how are you
keeping the spook alive? OK, so I feel like this week I

(09:45):
kind of kept a little spooky. So I have been watching your
YouTube videos. I kind of binged them one day.
I don't remember when it was, but I I was binging the whole
playlist of your video because Iwas behind.
So I was like commenting on all of them.
But there was 1 episode where you were showing your spooky
nettles. Yeah, and it was the ones with

(10:05):
the little tiny stitches. So I kind of copied you.
Oh. So I could show you probably
can't see because it's not goingto focus, but it is.
It's very scratchy because I didit with my own shaky hand.
So just look not little stitchesare kind of big only because
that was the brush that I had. So I kind of, you know, felt the
spooky vibes. I wanted to get into the spooky

(10:27):
weekend, so I painted my nails with little stitches.
That's super. Cute, I should just do my own
too. Like with bigger ones.
I'm liking how big the stitches are.
It's hard. I think in the future I want to
get like the stamp things that you were showing me.
I think that would be really, really cool to just, you know,
stamp them on top so it's like they look nice.

(10:47):
But I was going to drink a Bloody Mary, kind of like a
throwback to their first episodewhere I was drinking a Bloody
Mary to take the edge off, but Itotally forgot and I forgot to
prepare it. So I only have my water.
But the reason why I wanted to have a Bloody Mary is because we
saw Paranormal Activity 3 and Ohmy gosh, that is just as good as

(11:12):
Paranormal Activity one. Like the first movie.
I feel like those two movies arejust so scary and spooky and
good. But the reason for the Bloody
Mary is because have you seen Paranormal Activity 3?
I don't think so. I know the first one by heart.
Second one I kind of remember. Third one I don't know.

(11:32):
Is that the one where they introduced the whole ritual
thing? Sort of.
So it's where they introduce or where they go like super back to
the beginning when they were little girls, when Katie and her
sister were little. No, I didn't watch that one.
The preview scared me. Yeah, it's scary.
Anyways, I won't spoil or say anything more about the movie,

(11:52):
but there is one scene where they do play Bloody Mary in
their bathroom and it's a guy babysitting one of the girls and
little girls like let's go play Bloody Mary.
And the guy's already freaked out because of everything that's
happening. So they go and they do Bloody
Mary and the demon or Toby, theydo the ritual and they're just

(12:13):
like standing there in the dark because they don't want to turn
the lights on so quickly. And then they just, the door
starts banging and banging and like they open the door and the
toy set just like flies and it was terrifying.
It was. So scared and this just
solidified that I will never play Bloody Mary ever.

(12:34):
That's so funny. I don't know why.
She's just been like a vibe thisyear for me between like, well,
you started it honestly. But I've always been afraid of
her. And I always think about it now
when I'm in the bathroom, especially, like as I turn off
the lights, I'm like, don't lookin the mirror, don't look in the
mirror. Oh, yeah, she, I don't know.

(12:57):
For some reason it just sticks with me.
But one other thing I want to talk about Paranormal Activity 3
and I'll, I'll shut up until next week is so this movie is
set supposedly, like in the late70s, early 80s.
So they only have like, those big old VHS cameras.
OK. And he has very limited cameras,

(13:18):
so he gets an oscillating fan. This was so cool, an oscillating
fan, the one that like spins to the left and to the right to
like kind of like blow the wholeroom.
He takes off the fan and puts ona camera and just leaves that
like to capture like what happens in the living room in
the kitchen. So that those scenes with the
oscillating camera where he's just moving back and forth,

(13:41):
like, you know, something's going to kind of finally come
up. And it is the anxiety I had
watching those scenes was so high.
But yes, definitely recommend. Definitely, I forgot how scary
that was. So if you want to be scared,
watch that movie. I am getting like, OK, so we've

(14:01):
been talking about the past few weeks.
First of all, I had to say I don't want to interrupt you, but
I'm like, OK, Mr. I'm shy. And then by episode 11, he's
like, I can't stop talking. Just give me.
I love it. No, it's OK.
Don't apologize. That's what we're here for, to
talk. But I just thought it was funny.
But yeah, so we've been talking about how I have had my I've

(14:24):
been too spooked lately. But then also I'm ridiculous
because I have FOMO now about being spooked.
It has gone down. I did a lot of self scare,
healthy self scare last week. I leaned into Twilight and all
the spooky vibes I can handle. And it helped.
And it's like slowly it's gone away.

(14:45):
But I've had those tiny little moments still where I'm like,
what's behind me? But then I'm also just like, but
I want to watch like I was so bummed if you guys are didn't
hear last week. I did not watch bring her back
this weekend. And even after watching or
reading Rabbit's notes, I was like, maybe I should go watch it
in in the morning, like right before we record.

(15:06):
I'm feeling left out and I'm just like, no, like I need to
pace myself, but I'm struggling because I really do enjoy it.
I just, I don't know, I did it alittle too much and now I have
to pay for it. But yeah, sorry, I kind of
already shared. So I ended up watching the
Twilight movies on Netflix accidentally.

(15:26):
I was not planning to, but I hadso much fun and I even did like
a video talking about like my experience watching them for
YouTube. But I had, I think that was I'm,
oh, everyone knows I'm always like hustling with content that
I never like stop and enjoy myself.
But this was the first time in ahot minute where I'm like, OK,
like there's no rush. I'm just going to sit here, do

(15:48):
my makeup and just talk about it.
And if it's an hour long, it's an hour long, whatever.
But I had a lot of fun. I don't know why.
So I think I need to do more videos of me just talking about
the movies we don't talk about on this podcast.
Yes, so I definitely think you do need to watch this movie.
Maybe not right now, maybe, but I do think in the future you

(16:10):
need to watch you and Mr. Spooksneed to watch this this movie
and maybe take the advice from your friend or she said just
plan something fun afterwards because I don't I didn't think
this movie was scary, but I definitely think you should plan
something fun so it takes your mind off of it.
But yeah, Twilight, that's so funny you bring it up.
We had went to trivia with our friends this past week and they

(16:32):
were also talking about Twilight.
And I don't know, now that you're talking about Twilight,
I'm like, do I also want to go down a watch party on my own?
Yes. We just rewatch of them all so
I'm thinking about it. Yeah.
Oh, well, maybe we could do the next Patreon watch party with
Twilight. It's on Netflix.
I don't know, maybe I'll put a poll out.

(16:55):
Yeah, I doubt anybody will say no.
That would be so fun. Yeah, I and yeah, cuz I was
like, I was there chatting and Iwas like, wow, I'm talking a lot
of shit about Edward right now and I'm like, but you know what?
I'd still watch them again rightnow.
Yes, I think we have to overruleeverybody.
Like, sorry, we were watching Twilight.
Yeah, But yeah, I also tuned in to, if you guys haven't heard,

(17:21):
Netflix now has this. I don't know, I think this might
have been the first year they had a conference called to doom
and we were like, why is it called to doom?
And I can't decide if it's really clever or really dumb,
but that sounds. Weird.
It's the sound of the Netflix opening.
It's to doom, yeah. But it's kind of cool.

(17:46):
Well, I was like, I in my head, I was so they had Sofia Carson
be the main host for it. I don't, I don't know if you
know her, but I think she was inthe Disney villains.
Oh my gosh, the Disney villains kids movies.
Oh yes. Descendants.

(18:06):
I couldn't remember. I think that's where she's from.
But now she's this like, she's like the face of Netflix because
she's in so many movies for Netflix.
And not once did she say to Doom.
She said to Doom so many times. And I was like, if Mandy Spooks
had been hired to do coverage for the spooky shows on this,

(18:27):
she would have sold the crap outof it.
Like you have to say it the right way so people get it, even
if it's corny. True.
Come on. Yeah, Yeah, 'cause once you
first said it, I was like, I don't know what that means, but
then you said it with the beat and like, OK, I get it.
That's cute. Yeah, so I watched 2 Doom last
night and they had so many spooky updates.

(18:51):
They talked about Wednesday. Lady Gaga performed.
It was so cool. She did a mash up of her spooky
songs on the Mayhem album. So she did Zombie Boy
Abracadabra and she also did I don't know what it's called, the
one that's like dance, dance, dance with my hands, hands,
hands. What is it called?

(19:11):
I don't know what. It's called.
I'm bad at, I'm bad at naming. So yes, I know which one.
OK so she did those 3 songs and then she like remixed them with
the Addams Family song into themwhich was really cool and the
whole performance was themed around Addams Family.
It was so cool. I was so jealous.
I was like Lady Gaga's literallyliving my dream right now.

(19:32):
Like singing, dancing, doing spooky things, spooky pop
culture. It was everything that and then
they premiered the Frankenstein trailer.
The first one. Oh, it was so good.
You have to watch it. I was just like, OK, I'm
probably going to end up doing like A to Doom, I guess.
OK, I'm going to stop. That's the last one.

(19:53):
But I'm probably going to end updoing like A2 Doom recap for the
for my channel because I was like, there were so many good
updates and I could talk all dayabout the Frankenstein feature
they had. So I'm going to save it for the
video. But yeah, it was really fun.
And they have it to watch still on Netflix.
It's very corny. Like you can imagine the names

(20:14):
Courtney. The whole show was very corny.
I was just like, who produced this?
It's very like, I also wanted tohave time to go watch it on tic,
like go on TikTok and see if everyone was talking about how
cringe it was because it was so corny, but it was entertaining.
I love Courtney so. Yeah, that's true.
I that's what this is connectingall the dots from earlier this

(20:35):
week, because I had seen people post Lady Gaga performing and
doing like the snaps with the Addams Family theme song.
I was like, where is this happening?
Like, is this a concert that she's in?
So I was like, oh, it's from thespecial.
So it all makes sense now. Yeah, yeah, it was really fun.
Like the first, I think the second hour is right where all

(20:57):
the spooky stuff starts. And I was just like, man, what a
world we're living in where likehalf of a whole show of to
Netflix is like spooky things. We also got like the Stranger
Things updates, so yeah, it was really exciting.
So yeah, I did keep the spook alive last week, just didn't.
Mandy Spooks moderation. You got this Spooky, not scary.

(21:19):
Yes, for sure. I love that.
That's definitely my brand. Spooky, not scary.
It's time for the spoiler pack segment of the show, so if you
don't want spoilers, this is your final warning to turn back
now. Just kidding, but you can pause
and come hang out with us once you've seen the movie.

(21:40):
All right, Rabbit What popped into theaters this week.
All righty so this week, Bring Her Back popped into theaters.
It has a current rating or current audience rating of 77%
and it is also certified fresh. I feel 77% is too low in my

(22:04):
opinion, but we'll get to that later.
Sorry, hold. On Sorry to interrupt you.
Do we need a trigger warning forthis?
I totally forgot to ask. You yes.
Trigger warning on child abuse, Trigger warning on death, loss
of immediate families. So also a parent, children,
sibling. Yeah, I think those are like the

(22:27):
main things that you need to look out for.
So yes, thank you for reminding.Me no problem.
OK so here is the broad movie summary.
So I had the help of a Reddit user.
His name is Literary Boner. I took the summary and kind of
like added to it. Sorry, I have to say I can't

(22:49):
steal his content, but okay, seriousness.
Sorry, all I can think about is is you be Halloween with the
freaking boat. What was the shirt?
That woman is crazy for wearing that.
I, I, I don't know what it said,but it's something about boner.

(23:12):
OK, I'll stop saying it. Hey guys, we're being mature,
sorry. OK, OK, here's the movie movie
summary. I'll bring her back.
After the sudden death of their father, Piper and her
stepbrother Andy are put in a foster home to be in the care of
Laura. As they move in, they realize
Laura is in care of another child who is usually locked away

(23:33):
in his room. They uncover A terrifying ritual
that threatens their lives and plans to live a life after their
tragic loss. So that's kind of like the broad
overview. And one thing I forgot to write
in the notes is that Piper is blind.
And her brother Andy, kind of like, takes that protective role
of her and kind of, like, guidesher through everything.
So I don't want to mention that because I will talk about

(23:55):
certain scenes that will make sense that that you have to know
she's blind for it to make sense.
OK, OK, so here's the extended summary and major spoilers.
I'm going to spoil the whole movie.
So Laura obtains a collection. Laura the step, not the similar.
The foster mother somehow obtains a collection of VHS

(24:15):
tapes depicting the steps of howto complete a resurrection.
She kidnaps a boy named Oliver, keeps him locked in a room,
starves him, and only takes him out to complete the specific
steps of this resurrection ritual, which I assume part of
those steps are to keep him starved.
That's what I'm assuming. So she wants to use Oliver as a

(24:36):
vessel to be possessed by an entity that has the power to
transfer souls. So she has her daughter's body
kept in the freezer. So I guess her daughter died I
think in like in a pool accidentor something.
So she kept her body in a freezer and then she kind of
explains that a soul stays in the body for like a limited time

(24:59):
after somebody dies. So Laura takes in wants to take
in to foster in Piper so she cankind of like take the place of
her daughter and place the soul of her daughter into Piper.
So unfortunately, Laura or Pipercame with Andy to this foster

(25:20):
home and she has to figure out away to get rid of Andy so she
can keep Piper to herself and have her be her daughter.
But yeah, Laura is able to kill Andy.
But then her plan starts to unravel and in the end, Piper
and Oliver managed to escape andLaura is left with nothing and
she takes her own life right beside her daughter's preserved

(25:43):
body. Dang.
Yeah, a lot of dark, sad stuff happened in this movie.
Did they say how long Laura's daughter had been dead?
No, they did not really explain timelines in this movie.
OK. You kind of just took it for
what it was, or at least that's I don't remember.

(26:05):
They get like a time frame. Got it.
OK. Any questions?
Yeah, no. I I'm good Honestly after
reading it the VH VHS tapes really intrigued me and the
whole story honestly I was really surprised hearing what it

(26:25):
was about because I do want to give a shout out to Sally from
Too Fond of Books. She's a huge horror reader and
watcher. She's great and she did post
about how this movie had major trigger warnings and she didn't
recognize recommend it to many people and she knows my taste in
horror very well. So she told me like you are not

(26:46):
going to enjoy this film and if you do watch it plan tons of fun
activities afterwards to like lift your spirit.
After hearing about it, I thankfully, knock on wood, I
have never really experienced this kind of grief yet in my
life. So I feel like I would have been
OK, but it's more like the visuals that I'm very that I'm

(27:08):
struggling with a lot right now.So I will watch it like you said
eventually, probably when it's available to stream so that I
have the option to like stop it if it's becoming too much.
Yeah, for sure. And plus you can watch like in
your area with the windows open and it's not so dark and scary.
I honestly, though, I feel like I get more scared watching

(27:30):
things at home than I do in the theaters because like, I don't
know, I don't want to digress, but yeah, you can continue.
OK, so now I'm going to get intothe cast.
So it's directed by the Philippou brothers, Danny and
Michael, who also did the movie Talk to Me, which I believe they
were also Youtubers that kind ofturn into like these big film

(27:54):
makers, which is really interesting.
I did not know that. So stand out actors for this
movie is going to be Andy who isplayed by Billy Burat, Piper who
is played by Sora Wong, Jonah who is played sorry, Oliver who
is played by Jonah Wren Phillips, and Laura who is

(28:14):
played by Sally Hawkins and Sally Hawkins.
You are one crazy lady. She did such a good job.
But I guess I'll get into my initial reactions of this movie.
So this was probably one of the better movies that I think will
be released this year. It's really up there with

(28:35):
Sinners and Clown of the Cornfield for me.
I love the storytelling, the characters, the acting, and just
like the horror of it all, it was a lot to take in.
So those are my initial reactions.
Dang, I'm surprised to hear thatit was up there like with
sinners, so now I'm even more intrigued.

(28:56):
Yeah, I feel like sinners in this movie are in my mind for my
taste are like fighting for first place.
So it's either sinners bring herback and then clown in the
cornfield. 3rd place right now. Because you really liked Clown
too? Wow, I'm so Dang it.
I'm going to have to watch it. Yes, I I did love clown in the

(29:19):
cornfield, but it's a completelydifferent like there's no it's
it's like there's no similarities between those. 2
movies. But I love them both.
OK, so now to get into the tone and the atmosphere of this
movie, I guess they really the only way to explain the tone of
this movie is just like very sad, like just sadness and

(29:41):
grief. So we're pretty much watching
all these characters deal with grief and each one deals with
grief in like different ways. So in a way, Andy is kind of
relieved his dad is dead in a way because he was abusive
towards him. So he's happy that he gets to
take on this protector role of his sister.

(30:01):
Like they have plans to go move in together and he'll be her
caretaker and they'll just like live happily ever after after
their dad passed away. And at least for me, Piper seems
to be the only one that is dealing with death in a normal
way. If there is a normal way to deal
with death. But she doesn't seem like going
off the rails, like she just like leans on her brother for

(30:22):
comfort and kind of like wantingto get to know her new foster
mom. So it seems like she's taking it
well. And then there is Laura, who
puts up the front to the outsideworld that she has dealt with
her daughter's death and she hasaccepted it.

(30:44):
Very looks like, very happy in the outside.
Like, you wouldn't think anything was wrong, but then as
we go to the movie, you find outthat is like super far from the
truth. Like she wants her daughter back
desperately. And that's pretty much what the
whole movie is, you know, tryingher, trying to do this ritual
just to get her daughter back. That's fair.

(31:06):
Yeah, I totally get that. Do you feel like because you
said sadness, that's really whatsticks out to me is that you say
sadness, does it have like anxiety building jump scares?
Or is it really just like so sadthat like you, it kind of
overpowers the scariness of it? I wouldn't say jump scares, but

(31:33):
scares in a way of like shocking, like, Oh my God, like
did that just happen? And I'll get I'll get into it in
a little bit, but it's not, I wouldn't say it's like a jump
scare movie. It's more like what is happening
on the screen right now. Like I don't want to see this.
OK. And yeah, it kind of afterwards

(31:54):
the movie, you're kind of like thinking about it and you're
just like, oh, wow, that is really sad.
I think after the movie I was just sitting in the car thinking
about it. And then even writing my notes,
I kind of got teary eyed just like writing my notes and
thinking about the movie and thinking about Laura and how
she's dealing with the death andher grief.

(32:15):
So yeah, it kind of sticks with you.
And I think that's what the trigger warnings of this movie
is, is like, you will be sad. Like you won't be.
At least for me, I'm not scared.Like I didn't feel scared after
this movie. I just felt really sad.
And yeah, same with you. Like, I haven't experienced loss
with my immediate family. And yeah, I don't know how that

(32:37):
that will how I will handle that.
So if you're like in that space right now and you watch this
movie, you won't be in a good spot.
Like, I could see it. Like really affecting you?
Yeah, for sure. Cool.
OK. So anything, any questions
before I move on to the next? No, you can move on.

(33:00):
All right now it's getting a little deep or a little heavy.
No, it's OK. OK, so I'm getting into the
direction and the cinematographyof this movie.
So I think this movie had reallygood cinematography.
Like I really feel like they thought about the like specific
shots and how they wanted us to see like a specific scene.

(33:22):
So kind of like how I said before, Piper is blind.
And there is one scene that I thought was really, really cool
is they first walk into their foster mom's home and it like
loses focus. And she had mentioned it before
in the movie that she could onlysee light and shapes.

(33:43):
So when she walks into this to the home, I think she asked her
brother like, what does it look like?
Like, what does she look like? What does it look like?
And the brother like describes stuff to her, but you see
everything out of focus and you see like those the light and the
shapes that she was talking about in a way.
Like it wasn't CGI, at least I think it wasn't.
It was just the way the camera was like blurring in and out.

(34:04):
And I thought that was so geniusto kind of like give us a
glimpse of what she sees at thatmoment.
So it's like little things like that.
You're like, OK, that's, that was really cool.
That does sound really cool. And then another scene that they
had some really cool cinematography was so Laura's
inside the house, looking outside the glass door and

(34:26):
Oliver's outside. It looks very creepy, kind of
like turning into kind of like ademonic figure.
Like his eyes are crazy. His face is kind of like kind of
gross. And they just start staring at
each other between the glass door, like just looking at each
other. And she is like on the ground

(34:47):
sitting. And I think he's standing and
she's sitting. So they're like face to face,
like eye level. And so the camera's like
focusing on this and you see them, their faces just lining up
perfectly. And then like, I think she Laura
looks up or Oliver looks up or something.
And then you look at the reflection, and the reflection

(35:09):
is like turning into another face.
So it could either be, I couldn't really tell what it
was. It was either like her
daughter's face or maybe like the face of this entity that
she's trying to get. But it was just creepy but also
really cool at the same time. Yeah.
But I'm sure there was, like, other scenes that were done

(35:30):
really well. But those are like the two that
kind of like stuck with me afterthe movie.
Yeah, I always hate it when likethey show something and it's
intentionally not. I don't know if this was the
case. It's not.
It's intentionally not shown long enough for you to really
take it in. And then you're like but I need
to see it like 2 seconds longer so that I can process what it

(35:51):
is. Yeah, I think that's what it was
doing. Yeah.
I was like, you gonna see it, but you're not really gonna see
it. We're not gonna show you the
full thing. But yeah, that was a really,
really cool scene. OK, now to get into the writing
and the pacing of this movie. So I think the way this movie
was, the way it was structured was perfect.

(36:12):
I feel like other horror movie writers need to watch this movie
to know how to tell a story without having so much
exposition. Like it didn't really explain
anything. Like, you only knew things
because you were watching them happen.
Like, nobody had dialogue sound like, oh, I'm doing this.

(36:33):
Oh, I'm doing that. You just knew what was
happening. So that's why I want you to
watch this movie, so you can see, like, what I'm talking
about. Yeah.
Especially because I know you'rewriting your scripts and all
that. So I really think, I don't know,
this is just the way they did itwas really.
Cool. That's exactly why I was like, I
want to go see it when I was reading your notes because I've
actually been learning a lot about that specifically.

(36:55):
And there's like this, there's like, so many differing opinions
on that because I've noticed yousay it a lot where you're like,
the audience isn't dumb. Like, they can figure it out.
But then, like, some of the bestadvice I've heard is like, well,
the best writers show and then tell later.
So I don't know, like, now I'm curious, like if the film does

(37:15):
tell but in a different creativeway from what you're.
Yeah, OK. Yeah, actually what you said is
exactly what happened. So to the when the movie starts,
you don't know what she's doing. You just see her with these
types and you're kind of learning as we go.
And then Andy is able to leave the house and go to like a
social worker. And then he explains she's

(37:36):
trying to do this ritual, blah, blah, blah.
So yes, it's kind of like what she said in the beginning.
You kind of leave, let us figureout what's happening.
And at the end you kind of like wrap it up and like, yes, this
is what's happening. So yeah, what she said is
exactly what they did. So.
Interesting. Dang OK you're giving me more
FOMO. You can continue.

(37:57):
But yeah, I think that's just like the one example that I
wanted to explain is you are watching her take these tapes
and put them in and she's like following it like a YouTube
tutorial. I guess you can say in a weird
way, but you're slowly learning.I was like, oh, OK, this these
aren't just like creepy tapes. This is like a tutorial of how

(38:19):
to bring somebody back to life and that, like what you said,
we're smart enough. We're not dumb.
We're smart enough to know what is happening.
And I just thought they're writing and the way they paste
the movie was just all perfect for me.
Yeah. That's good.
That's a big compliment because I don't think you've really said

(38:39):
that before on any of the other movies that the writing and
pacing were like spot on. So I'm very intrigued.
Yeah, definitely. It was so good.
So another thing about the writing of this movie, but also
it kind of leads into the next topic, which is casting in
character. So I'm kind of going to like
merge these two or this thought to with these two topics.

(39:03):
In the beginning, I hated Laura, like the foster mom.
I thought she was terrible. I she was like doing so many
horrible things and I was like rooting for the children the
whole time. I was like, y'all need to figure
this out so you can kill this woman and get rid of her.
She needs to be stopped. But by the end of the movie or

(39:26):
this this one scene or the last scene you see here, she's like
in the pool dead with her daughter.
And I saw that scene, and I was like, OK, I get it.
Like, I get, I get what you're hearing.
Like, imagine being so desperateto have your daughter back that
you'd do anything Like, you'd kill, you'd manipulate and

(39:50):
you'll torture people along the way just to have like the one
person that you love the most inthe world.
Like, how far would you go? And that's what she was doing.
She was doing everything that she could just to get her
daughter back. And so I just put myself in her
shoes in that moment. And I was like Tang.
That's really sad. This is the part where I was

(40:11):
like tearing up writing my notesbecause I was like, I don't
know, losing somebody that you love so much, I don't like.
Would you go to that extent as other people's lives matter at
that point when your biggest person in your world is not
there anymore? So it's, it was, it felt like it
was character development, but it was like more me development

(40:32):
because she didn't change. She was the same person
throughout the whole movie. But I my view of her changed and
I was like, Oh my gosh, like I haven't experienced that in the
movie in a while where I'm like,I hate this person.
And then I switch my view at theend.
Yeah. Dang, that is tough.
Yeah, When I was reading your notes about that, I even got sad

(40:54):
reading Nick or yeah, because I was just like, it immediately
made me think of like Rudy of like, like I've dealt with
potentially losing him before and it is crazy.
So yeah, it is really depressing.
I know, I know. So it's it's it's a really tough
topic, but not to get out of thesadness a little.

(41:16):
Everybody that was casted in this movie, like everybody was
such good actors. The little boy Jonah, who little
little boy's name is Jonah playsOliver.
He does such a good job. He probably only had like maybe
2 lines in this whole movie, Like he doesn't speak at all but

(41:39):
his face acting or his like bodyacting or his body language,
like the things that have to do with his body.
Like he deserves an award for whatever he was doing in this
movie because yeah, snaps for Jonah because he does such a
good job. But yeah, I can't exaggerate how
much the acting was, how good itwas.

(42:00):
It was very good. That's good.
I I'm I'm just curious of like Ialways wonder, like what these
things do to kids long term whenthey do these role, even adults.
I'm just like, I got scared producing the haunted line and
watching a few spooky things like I and even the thought of
like doing scary things on set. Like I have rules for us.

(42:24):
I'm like, we will never like do anything in our own home that
involves anything like paranormal and stuff.
But then like to bring kids intoit is crazy to me.
Which is crazy because when we did our film fest or yeah, that
small film fest we got into for the short we did, that was like

(42:44):
the first thing they asked us, which really surprised me, was
like, what was it like handling a child on set?
And like they said, like we justget really nervous about coming
kids on set and what they could do, like mentally long term.
And I don't know, like that's just rough.
As even like as a writer, I'm constantly aware of like, OK, if

(43:05):
I write this in like, what? Like who would we need to cast?
Like what would we need? What would it involve?
Am I comfortable filming this? So putting kids through that is
just wild to me, honestly. Yeah, I, I'm, I'm hoping he has
like therapy or they had therapylined up for them after this
movie because yeah, it was, it was a rough watch.

(43:29):
Like watch them experience all these things, which goes into
our next topic, which is the kills and scares, which I'm not
going to really talk about the kills because that's not really
like the focus of this movie. It's more of the scare scene.
So there's two scenes that have really or I guess 3 scenes that
I have really stuck out. I guess the first thing that

(43:51):
everybody's talking about right now on Tiktok that I had to like
scroll away was the melon scene.I don't know if you've seen
people talking about like a melon or something.
No. So I'll just explain it really,
really quick. So Andy is left home alone with
Oliver, and he lets Oliver out of the room.
Like he unlocks the door with a knife to get him out.

(44:12):
And I guess he realizes that he's hungry.
So he goes to the kitchen and they're sitting in the kitchen
counter and he starts cutting pieces of a melon for Oliver to
eat because it just, he just looks like really skinny and he
looks hungry. So he's like trying to get to
talk to him because he's not saying anything.
So he's cutting up this melon. And then he grabs the melon with

(44:35):
the tip of his knife. He like grabs it and then he
like hands it over to him. It's like here you go, you can
eat this. And then he drops a piece of the
melon on the floor and the camera goes down like to the
ground. And I feel like TikTok gave me
anxiety because I was like, OK, this is the melon St. something
is going to happen here. I don't know what's going to
happen, but something is happening.

(44:56):
So my anxiety was high. I was like, what is happening?
What's going to happen? And then you just hear this
crunching sound like I don't like it does not sound like he
was eating melon. And then like the camera cuts to
him and he's eating the knife, like chomping on the knife.
What the heck? Into his gums.

(45:16):
Like you see everything. You see the blood, you see the
teeth coming out. You see just like he's going in
on that knife and he is going crazy.
Like the brother goes crazy. He's like, what are you doing?
What are you doing? And it's just, it's just insane,
like. It's just crazy.

(45:37):
But yeah, sorry to traumatize you just a little bit, but I
feel like we have to talk about this because this is like the
one thing that people are talking about.
No, that's OK. See, and even hearing that for
me, it's like I don't do well with paranormal things is my
thing. Like I can handle gore, I can
handle crazy things. That sounds fine to me.
It's more so like Hill House, where like the lady's hovering

(46:00):
over her or like things that involve sleep.
Anything else I'm good. That makes sense.
That makes sense. OK, now to go to those two other
scenes. These two scenes really made me
gasp. Like, like during the movie, I
couldn't control it. It just happened on its own.
Like I was just so, so so shocked.
Did you hear other people gasping?

(46:23):
I didn't. I feel like I was only one
gasping. Oh my gosh.
I think I was just so into it that it didn't matter who else
was there and my body just took over.
So obviously Lord doesn't want Andy there.
Like she wants Piper to herself. So he's she's trying to think of
ways to get Andy out. Like you need to leave.

(46:44):
You know, you're going to be 18 so you can go on your own.
And I'll take a Piper and you know, she'll be my daughter.
So she's trying to frame him as being an abusive brother or
physically abusive brother. So just prepare for this thing
because it's crazy. So she has this great idea.
Laura has this great idea one night and she is sitting in her

(47:07):
bathroom and she gets Andy's body spray and kind of like
sprays in her pits and like in her body and like all over her
shirt. So she can smell like Andy
because obviously the Piper is blind.
So she's not going to be able tosee anybody, but she's going to
smell that Andy did something. So this woman puts all that on,

(47:28):
and you're just like, what is she doing?
Like, why is she putting on Cologne?
Is she just being a creep? Goes to her room, stands over
her bed and kind of like, startscaressing her.
Like, she's like, sleeping. And I'm just like, oh, my God,
what is going to happen during the scene?
I know this is not going to be good.

(47:48):
And she lifts her arm and, like, slams her eye.
Yeah, she's sleeping. And she runs out of the room.
And that scene just, like, made me jump.
Like, how hard she hit Piper in the head.
Like, it was crazy. Like, I was like, oh, my God,
What? What is happening?
Like, I didn't expect that. I expected something, but I did

(48:09):
not expect that. Like her own hand or Piper's
hand? She Laura got like raised her
hand and OK slammed her in the head on her eye and she runs out
of the room and obviously like Piper wakes up screaming and
crying and then they go to the doctor or whatever and they all

(48:30):
think it's Andy because it she smelled the Cologne.
But she's also confused. Like my brother wouldn't hit me.
So it was just a crazy scene. This scene for some reason
sticks out more than the melon scene for me.
I just, I think it was just so random and.

(48:52):
Also because I think you were expecting like something else
that was also really dark. So yeah.
Yeah, I think it was just like, yeah, we're going to do
something you've never seen before.
But also maybe the balance scenetoo, because you knew something
was coming with it. You were like disappointed the
expectations of like you knew something would be there versus

(49:13):
a missing you did not know therewas going.
To be. Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, that makes sense. That's probably why it's stuck
with me. So yeah, for some reason I can't
stop thinking about that. I feel so bad for, I know, I
guess there's one more scene, but I kind of want to leave it
for you. Like I don't want to tell you
what happens. No, tell me everything.

(49:37):
OK, so Andy goes to was able to escape and go to the social
worker and bring the social worker to the house.
Like please come see what's happening.
Like this is crazy. So the social worker goes and
they're actually previous Co workers.
So they're like what is going onhere blah blah blah.
And then as the social worker isthere, she's like, OK, something
is definitely wrong here. Something happens, I don't
remember. So the social worker is like

(50:01):
getting to her car. So like, I got to go like,
together, like the cops or I gotto just get out of here, come
back later. So like, the camera's like, on
the social worker walking by with Andy as they're going to
her car. And you're thinking like, OK,
she's running away for a reason.Laura's probably chasing them
with like a knife or like a weapon or like a gun or

(50:21):
something. Like you, You definitely know
that Laura's coming somehow. But what I didn't expect is that
she was driving a vehicle and drove her truck into her,
smashes into her and the body smashes into her car.
So she gets like sandwiched in away and kills her.
And then right after that, she kills Andy.

(50:42):
But yeah, those two things just may be like, what the heck is
happening? So I guess in a way that is a
jump scare. But it was more just like, what
the heck am I watching right now?
Yeah, it just sounds really crazy, like you said, like the
thing she's willing to do. Wow, I don't even know what to
say. And I know it's just so

(51:03):
shocking, which I guess I kind of touched on it before our next
topic, which is practical effects versus CGI.
So now I know that I'm really bad at identifying CGI and
practical effects, but I think this movie did a lot of
practical effects, specifically with like biting the knife.

(51:27):
And then another scene he's biting the table with his teeth,
like just like biting into the wood.
And then he like starts eating his arm and you see like him
tear it like a piece of meat. Oh my God.
So I definitely think that has to be practical effects.
So I mean, I could be wrong, butthey did a really good job if
those were practical effects. That's awesome.
Yeah, I have been. For some reason our feeds just

(51:49):
got all of the practical effectsbehind the scenes things now and
it's been so fun seeing how things come together.
But as soon as you said the knife thing, I was like, I
wonder how they created that? I know it, it is crazy and I try
not to close my eyes because I had seen the girl that you sent
me to said don't close your eyesbecause you're going to want to
see everything. Oh, that's right, go host.

(52:13):
Go host. There you go.
And I was like, OK, I'll watch everything.
So I tortured myself watching him bite into a knife.
But yeah, it was. I was crazy.
OK, so get into our next topic is themes and symbolism.
So this movie delves into themesof obviously grief, loss, trauma
and how far would you go to bring someone back to life?

(52:35):
And for me, that's what I think made this movie so scary is
just, you know, imagining you losing someone that you love so
much and you can't really. And I can't really imagine how
that feels like, how devastatingthat can be.
So that's what makes this movie so impactful in my opinion is.
Yeah. Just having to think about that

(52:57):
for yourself. And I don't like thinking about
this kind of things, yeah. It's weird because it creeps up
even more as you get older and it sucks.
Yeah, that's very true. OK, so I think I've spoken
enough about this devastating movie.
So here's our final wrap up. One thing I did not mention was

(53:20):
the sound of this movie. It added so much, though, when
he was like biting into the knife, biting into the wood.
You heard the crunch. You heard like they really
wanted you to feel something. Watching that scene.
You like, visually, you saw how shocking it was.
And then you can hear this, how like, the sound of it was just

(53:41):
very shocking. But I also don't think this
movie will get a sequel, per SE.Like I don't think there's going
to be like Part 2, but I think these brothers have really
proven themselves with Talk to me and Bring her Back.
So any movie that I that they put out, I will definitely go
watch. So it's very similar, at least
for my feelings towards Jordan Peele.

(54:02):
Like any movie that he, any horror movie that he makes, I
don't need to see a trailer to any Jordan Peele horror movie.
I will just go watch it because I know it's going to be
interesting. And that's how I'm feeling
towards these two brothers. Like any movie they create, I
don't need to see a trailer, I just know that I will be want to
watch it for sure. Wow, that's a big stamp of
approval. So I have two questions for you.

(54:24):
The first one was you had mentioned leading up to this
film, we've had this has been anongoing conversation on the
podcast as far as like the marketing of films, are they
accurate? Are they not accurate?
And also we have also learned that people over hype films
sometimes. And I know you had mentioned, so

(54:44):
side note, I had told Rabbit beforehand.
I also told him like, hey, if this becomes too heavy for you
to like, you can also leave the theater.
Like we'll figure something out.Like the podcast is not more
important than our mental health.
And he said, I think you said I'm hoping, but I'm also not
hoping that it is as bad as everyone is saying.

(55:05):
So my question is, were you disappointed?
Not disappointed cuz I obviouslyyou love the film, but did it
meet your expectations as far aswhat you were expecting I guess?
And do you feel that it was marketed accurately?
I I guess, no, it wasn't what I expected.

(55:27):
I was expecting more like possession stuff, more
paranormal stuff. I guess that's how I felt like
it was marketed towards me. Like that's what I was kind of
picking up. Like, OK, this is like a
possession story. There's going to be some crazy
paranormal scenes. There's going to be like a demon
here and there, which it does have some paranormal stuff in in
it, but it's not the focus of the movie.

(55:48):
Like it just has like one or twoscenes that are paranormal,
maybe like a scene or two that are kind of demonic where you
see like the little boy's face and it just looks like a a
demon. But it wasn't like the focus of
the movie. They were just like little
sprinkles of scary attitude, little sprinkles of horror
attitude the movie. And that wasn't really the main
focus. The main focus was the grief and

(56:09):
the death and the sadness of these characters.
So definitely not what I expected, but I definitely loved
it. That's good.
That's good to hear. OK.
And then my last question was this movie compared to Talk to
Me, I have not seen Talk to Me either.
I actually did want to see that one.
I just missed it in theaters forsome reason.
So which one is scarier and which one's better?

(56:36):
Oh gosh, that's hard. I definitely think Talk to Me is
scarier. Like, OK, Talk to Me does have
some crazy scenes, like possession scenes, but it does
the same thing as this movie. It shocks you.
Like you're like, I should not be watching this.
Like what this character is doing right now.
Like, I should not be watching what is happening, but if you've

(56:56):
seen that, you know, the scene with the little brother when he
wants to try the Talk to Me hand, It's that scene, but I
won't spoil it. But yeah, I don't know which
one's better. Different vibes, I feel like.
Yeah, a little bit different vibes.
I do feel like this one's a little bit more mature and I
guess you can say. OK.
In a way I don't know how. I'll explain it like a movie can

(57:17):
be mature. Not that talk to me was I'm not
mature because it also dealt with really serious topics.
Also grief in a way. I don't know I guess.
OK I have an idea. So if you want to see paranormal
spooky watch talk to me. If you want to watch a sad story

(57:43):
but still get scared, watch readher back.
I just feel like they're so similar but also different.
I don't know how to explain. It.
OK. I have another one.
I lied. Would you watch it again?
Actually, I think I would watch it again, not right now, not
right now, not right away, definitely like in a year or

(58:03):
something, because I would. I would also watch Talk Talk to
Me Again because I wouldn't havesome really cool scary scenes
that I would want to see again. But Bring Her Back is like, you
can't watch that old that much because it's too sad.
Like you want to spread those viewings out so you're not
making yourself depressed. Yeah, All right, well, I think

(58:24):
I've grilled you enough so we can move on to It's Time for
Freak. It's freaking bats.
OK, so on a scale of one to five, how many bats would you
rate this film Rabbit? So when I left the movie
initially I was thinking a 4.5 that's but this always happens

(58:48):
to me when I talk about a movie or we have like a conversation
about a movie. I'm like, no, actually that
movie was really good. Like I wouldn't change anything
about this movie. The same thing with Sinners and
I wouldn't change anything aboutit because I like the final
outcome of what happened. So I think it's up there and I'm
going to have to changed my initial rating from 4.5 to 5:00

(59:12):
just because it was that good. Well I am so shocked.
I genuinely thought that this movie was going to be a let down
after. Usually when they market things
to be so scary, they just fall flat, but it's almost like they
knew how good it was that they could get away with.

(59:32):
Kind of like changing the perspective a little with the
marketing. That's true, yeah.
So I'm definitely intrigued and I will watch it when I'm in the
right headspace. Yes, save it for a specific day.
All right, And before we part ways for the week, let's have a
little moment of Be Kind Rewind. We're all about the vibes here,

(59:58):
so if this film hit just right, here are a few spooky pics you
can rewind to to match the mood, the madness or the mayhem.
So what's your pic, Rabbit? So kind of said it before, the
Philippe brothers, this is theirsecond movie, I believe, but
their first movie is Talk to Me.So if you haven't seen Talk to
Me, definitely watch that. It's very similar type of

(01:00:21):
horror, very shocking, but also very spooky and scary.
And then another movie that kindof came to mind when I was
talking it with Michael after the movie was Hereditary.
So it's very similar to like they want to get a person and
have them get possessed by an entity.
So it felt very similar to Hereditary.

(01:00:43):
Sorry not to spoil it, but that's kind of like the thing
they're trying to do in the movie.
So yeah, one of those to definitely become rewind to
those. Cool and I got nothing cuz I
don't. Know yeah, I gave you 2.
All right, ghosters, I guess we can get back to our tombstone

(01:01:05):
trivia and see what the answer was.
So the question was, what is thename of the biological weapon
used to kill the people through their water supply in the movie
The Crazies? And the answer is Trixie.
Yeah, I never would have guessedthat because in my mind that's a
drag queen and I would never have guessed that as a bomber.

(01:01:31):
What was the question? A biological weapon.
Biological weapon, yeah, that does not sound like a weapon to
me. That sounds like a drag queen.
That's. Funny.

time hanging out with us today. We're streaming and screaming to

say it because I never really know how to address things, but
it means a lot to me and this isa safe space.
No, that was good. That was perfect.
I yeah, thank you for celebrating Pride.
And yes, I also want to say happy Pride to everybody else.

(01:02:37):
