Not my best time but by far not my worst either for this course. Could have shaved 20-30 seconds off but I was not gonna win so no sense in pushing it. Could have caught 2nd but didnt care to spend the energy. So hung back since I had a huge gap between me and 4th. 20 seconds at the turn exactly. Was nice weather about 65° and not humid this race is notorious for being hot and humid so was a nice change for it not to be. Crowd was a fun crowd. Top 3 of us were pretty much were locked into spots a couple tenths in. Overall felt great and had no adverse affects from yesterdays 20/20 milegae day so thats huge.

(00:01):
Hooter Bug 5K in Homer City, finished third overall in 1751.
Not a bad time. I don't know if that's my best
or not. I'd have to look.
Not in so many years. I can't keep track of what my
times were, but hit the metal. Be real quick.

(00:28):
It was a pretty nice day, probably mid 60s, a little bit
of a chill in the air to run, sovery good running weather,
especially for a race. I think a lot of people did a
lot better than what they were expecting.
A couple PRS, I know Max before I left said he got APR for the

(00:50):
day, forget his time, but he still crushed it today.
So shout out to Max. It's pretty flat course, maybe
100 feet a gain during the wholeout and back.
So you go like 1.5 out and back because you go a little bit

(01:10):
farther when you come back to the finish line.
So you only get like 1451.5 on the way out.
Starts by the bank right above Floodway Park and you go down by
like shop and save before you turn on the Handel bug trail and

(01:33):
you do that for a little over a mile out before you come back.
There's a water stop roughly 1.151 point 2 into the race so
you pass that twice. Was feeling pretty decent

(01:55):
yesterday, I did 20 miles running and then 20 miles biking
so my I wasn't expecting my legsto be perfect but I don't really
think it made a difference todayperformance wise.
Maybe a couple seconds but nothing too noticeable.
Just me in the flat course that it is hurting me more than

(02:18):
anything. But I'll take a 17515K basically
any day of the week with the shape of that I'm in.
Just getting back at it. And you know, having ran
yesterday so much, I wasn't going to catch first.
I knew that could have caught second if I pushed.

(02:41):
But to me there's no difference between a second and third
place. Lester's money involved because
he was within reach. I just really didn't feel like
it at the turn. There was 22nd gap between me
and 4th, so I was figuring that was going to probably at least

(03:08):
double or more on the way back. So I just sort of hung into
third and didn't really care from there.
My split times were pretty good though.
Pull them up real quick. I mean, overall it was a 549
pace, so that's pretty solid forme. 530-1554, then a six O 4.

(03:38):
So as you see, I did draw back, but again, I pulled back after
the turn a little bit just to save some and just keep those
just enough to keep the two kidsin front of me in vision or
within reach per SE, more so second within reach if I needed

(04:00):
to chase after. I think he ended up finishing
like 20 seconds ahead of me, butthat was more of me giving up
than anything if I really wantedto burn up, like definitely
going to chase him down. It just wasn't worth it to me.

(04:23):
I know that sounds bad, but trying to keep my legs fresh for
you know, training more so than racing right now so I can get
more miles in during the week and build out endurance than
performing at a race. So I guess that's sort of why

(04:44):
launched slightly. Don't care as much at the moment
because I want to build back up the perform races later the
night. Performing races now, we've
pretty much top three of us, pretty much separated by the

(05:04):
time we hit that shop and save and turned onto the trail.
There's only a few people that were in the mix for maybe a 10th
or so, but when we first made that right hand turn together
towards shop and save, it was just pretty much us 3 the rest
of the race. So they had a pretty much good,

(05:26):
pretty much had a good gap from there.
Maybe, yeah, I was maybe 5 seconds at the most at the turn
from 2nd and then maybe 10 ish 11:50 I would say from first at

(05:49):
the turn. It's nothing unsurmountable at
the turn, but I stood no chance to catch it first.
I do not. Otherwise I felt good during the
race. Did feel the turnover pretty

(06:09):
good pushing forward, especiallywith my Northrop Ford throws
being on. I definitely felt that for Paul
pushing, you know, pushing me forward with that carbon plate
today since I've been wearing non carbons, I can, you know,
I've been hanging back too much on my heels, but today I can
definitely feel it leaning up. So that definitely helped.

(06:36):
Still feel like I had a lot of juice left in me, just didn't
really want to use it. Help Looking at the field on the
way back, everybody seemed like they were having a good time or
you know, nobody seemed like they were struggling today.
And I think it was a lot of it had to do with the weather is I

(07:00):
would say it was perfect runningweather, even if it was like
510° cooler. There was like no humidity
today. So you could definitely breathe
a lot easier than the last couple weeks during the races.
Blessed being an evening race, this is notably a very hot race
and very humid race, so it was anice mix not to have to deal

(07:27):
with all that junk today actually wore.
Yeah, I wore my compression shorts, calf sleeves, and I
tried out my one Reebok like singlet shirt.
Should have went shirtless but Iwas trying to keep myself a
little bit cooler. That's where I wore the singlet.

(07:50):
Dumped water on my head so my hat was wet.
My shirt and shorts before I started just stayed a little bit
cooler. I think that did help.
Definitely helped. Just being moist and cooler even
with the cool temps does make a difference.
And then water stopped both ways.

(08:16):
I did grab a cup, poured water over my head both times just to
keep myself a little bit more moist because I know I dried out
pretty quickly with that shirt. It just like oozed it water away
from me when it evaporates it pretty quickly.
So you have to sort of reactivated I guess fairly

(08:37):
often, at least until you started running.
But I noticed it did pull on me a little bit to the one side, so
I must have been arm swinging a little bit more on my right hand
side because it seemed like it was pulling more that way.
Pretty straightforward race justwent by really too quick.

(09:00):
Not much to speak of, but it wasa good crowd.
I would say it was one of the bigger crowds today, even with
the Steeler game finishing up like right before the race
started, which is always anotherfactor for participation.
The Steelers always seem to playthe day of the race and just

(09:23):
finish up as the race starts. Yeah, everybody seemed happy and
content with how they did. Nobody seemed like in a bad
mood, so that was good. No real complaints, I would say
today. I mean, you can't really say the
cars anything about the course because it's pretty

(09:45):
straightforward. You can't really get lost.
They had enough traffic control, stuff like that.
Even that block that we do run around town before hitting the
trail, say that's about it. I had to take probably 50 ish

(10:06):
clips at the finish line. A lot of people Sprint at the
end just trying to squeak in that last couple seconds under,
so that was fun to see. Yeah, I'll take it third overall
and then under 18 minute 5K. Can't complain at all how I

(10:33):
performed today and how it went,so I guess I'll just leave it at
that.
