(00:01):
Color me pink and Wimber finished first overall in 1844.
So kind of a slow 5K time for me.
The way I've been trending, beengetting close to that 17 mile
mark or minute barrier again. But the course today is just a
little bit hard because you're going uphill for basically the
(00:22):
first half of the race. And it was kind of chilly this
morning, maybe maybe 4748° when we started.
So it was a little chilly. Also ran 20 yesterday and bike
20 and I didn't even finish up till 9:15 and this race started
at 9:00 AM so didn't even have afull 12 hour recover.
(00:48):
So I was a little stiff and sorethis morning.
Purse well I don't want to say sore but probably stiff.
It was a little bit hard to get going and my legs felt a little
bit rough, my upper back thighs until at least I took off my
jogging pants and hoodie and I felt a lot better.
But jogging around this morning I was like, oh man, this is
(01:08):
going to be a rough, rough morning.
When I was getting trying to warm up, I tried to actually jog
a little bit more than I normally do, maybe put down like
a half mile or so to get warmed up just loose because I know I
needed to get loose more so thanthe other races that I do.
This is the medal. So yeah, got it done.
(01:34):
Kind of a bittersweet race. I wanted to come today because
it's the race timer, David Mapes, his last race today that
he's ever doing. So I want to come up and say
goodbye and thank you to him. So shout out to him dedicating
the race to him. He's always been nice to me.
(01:55):
And if it wasn't for him back when I started running and like,
I don't even know what year it'sbeen, you know, 2015, 2016 range
and then picked up in like 2018.If it wasn't for all the races
that he times back then, I probably would have never caught
the running bug and accomplishedso much that I did because he
(02:17):
was everywhere when I started. So if it wasn't for him, I
probably wouldn't have been. Well, I know I wouldn't have
been as as an accomplished runner as I am.
So thank you, Dave for that. So was a chilly morning.
As I said it, this race always it seems like it's chilly.
(02:37):
It's never been like really decent morning.
Now it's like 60. But yeah, did my little warm up,
peed a couple of times. Actually, I had a poop again
like 6 minutes before the race. I didn't know if I was going to
make it, but I did cut to the start line, looked around, I was
like, all right, think I could win this.
(02:57):
We'll see how some of these younger kids do.
I started like a row or two back.
That's probably, I thought it might have been a mistake once
we started right away for like the first 30 seconds as it got,
that was probably a mistake starting so far back because I
couldn't get around people. But then once it got a little
(03:18):
farther into the race, once we did the first couple of turns,
it thinned out and I was able toget around people because
there's a couple, I don't want to say quick, quick turns, but
couple quick turns, like 3 to start the race as we go, like
before we go up the hill and I just couldn't get around people
(03:40):
and then my legs were getting loosened back up.
I would say the downhill to start sucked more than the
actual like uphill the first half of the race.
I mean when I say first half of the race is uphill because it
pretty much is except for the first like 2/10 maybe.
(04:01):
Then once I got going I just took over and slowly took the
lead. By the time I think we hit the
graveyard I was in first to passlike the last two younger kids
and then from there I just buried in gapped the rest of the
way. Wasn't sure what was really
happening behind me until I got halfway through like the Wimber
(04:24):
wreck part. Then I started looking back a
couple of times I was like man Igot like 2030 seconds already.
I was like just keep this up. You can pull back a little bit
to save yourself from blowing uplater in the race because that
uphill really does get you, especially in the cold.
Doesn't matter how warmed up youget, it does take it out of you.
(04:48):
So I was a little bit worried about that.
I was worried about the couple younger kids, teenagers, I don't
want to say young kids, but teenagers because they look like
they had some good form to them.So wasn't sure if they're like
track studs or not. But once I pulled away, I was
like, oh, thank goodness. Like because I really wanted to
win this race. Dave and Mace's last race.
(05:12):
I thought that would mean a lot to me if I did that.
That's one of the like I said, one of the reasons why I came
today, like big part of the reason.
So yeah, powered through the hill and I actually felt really,
really good going up the hill better than I thought.
I know like the first miles were.
(05:33):
I think first mile was like justunder 5 or I mean under 6 and
then like a six O 7 or something.
I didn't get to really look yet.I'm probably wrong because I
also didn't. I must have hit start and
stopped my watch too quickly at the beginning of the race so I
(05:56):
got like a tenth less than I should have.
So I got 6 O 7611 and 552 from my miles.
Well I got 2.97 total. Like I said, I start, stopped
and stopped my watch. I must have hit the buttons too
fast or too many times or whatever when we started the
race because I looked down maybe1/10 into the race as I caught
(06:17):
shit. The watch says save or resume,
so I had to hit resume again. So that's why I lost a little
bit of that data. But it's like 250 to 300 feet a
game and descent for the race. But yeah, powered up through the
hill. They had one of the Wimber
police cruisers leading their whole race.
(06:39):
Got went across the Wimber Park that brood right before Wimber
Park, both times unscathed. I didn't have to slow down or
change form at all. It was just smooth crossing.
They had the roads blocked off pretty good as I came through.
But around the park I did struggle a little bit because
it's got a little bit of a bump to it in a couple of different
(07:03):
spots. And then you're you're wrapping
around the park. I don't even know how it's like
a weird, like a funky weird Figure 8 type shape through the
park. But that turning slows you down
a little bit. So it's kind of hard to explain,
but it just makes it harder to run just, you know, running
(07:23):
around the corners like the first part of the race as we're
running uphill to the park, it'sall straight, a straight shot.
So it's a lot easier. Then once I started looking
back, I knew I had 2030 seconds as I took a lot of pressure off
me and that was pretty nice. And I just took it from there.
Like I don't know how much time I would have been able to knock
(07:46):
off today. Maybe 20 seconds, 30 at the
most. And most of that wall would have
been up around the park and thenthe downhill coming back.
I could have leaned forward and got some more free speed coming
down the hill. But again, I didn't want to blow
up since I had a lead and I was reaching.
The goals that I had for the daywas just to win the race.
(08:11):
That was really the only goal I had no time goal, of course,
obviously not get injured or anything, but that's kind of
obvious. Yeah.
So once I was looping around thepark and saw I had a huge lead,
I did pull back some and just cruised.
I don't want to say cruised in, but yeah, I flew in from there.
(08:33):
I didn't get no color through itall because it is like a breast
cancer awareness race, even though it's still a competitive
race. But they also do like because
it's color me pink. They also have Wimber students
and stuff throwing that paint stuff, but I'm not getting them
throwing on me. I didn't even look at them.
(08:54):
So thankful for that because I don't have all that junk on me
to wash off when I get home. Yeah, I think, yeah, once I tied
my shoes, my door from Pro Foursup today, it was pretty much go
time. I think my body just realized
what was going to happen. So hopefully I can continue this
(09:15):
on to tomorrow at the end of theroad.
What else they might be about it.
Really not much to speak of because once I took the lead,
like I said, I just kept gappingand gapping.
(09:37):
I think they might have second, might have finished like a
minute behind me. I got a cool couple, no bakes,
got a couple to take home. This was their shirt this year.
I should take it out, but I wantto take it out the bag.
That people seemed like they were having a good time today.
(09:58):
I guess that's about it. I was just kind of shocked at
how good I felt once I started running after doing yesterday's
training. Just good reco active recovery I
guess and body knows what to do.We're compression, the white and
(10:24):
black like I so chill shorts or some or cold, whatever they are
from Under Armour, my calf sleeves or my blue new mesh run
top had my hat on and my MP3 player.
I was afraid I was going to get cold because like I said, it was
(10:44):
chilly to start the race under 50.
But I think I warmed up enough because when I was warming up I
had two hoodies on in my jog andpants.
I was starting to sweat. So I think that carried me into
the start of the race where I was warmed up enough that I
didn't get cold because the bodywas flowing.
So once I started going, it justkept myself warm.
So I guess that's about it's what we got it done.
(11:11):
Mission accomplished. Saw Dave at his last race.
One had a good time and yeah, I'll go get some junk food and
do some shopping.
