Race went way better then expected. What i mean is body felt way better and performed way better then I was expecting. 1st 2 miles ran at a comfortable pace carrying on a conversation with my one buddy. After the split of our two different races it was on. I did get sent wrong way. I lost 3-5 mins. Also got passed up when sent wrong way. When I say I got sent wrong way volunteer told me to go wrong way even after asking him specifically which way to go. Adrenaline and dispare kicked in for a bit till i caught back up to guy who overtook me when I got sent the wrong way. I gathered myself releaxed before passing him then turned it back on. Being only a 5 mile race was shocked was able to get myself back into it. But that goes to show how hard i ran to get back into it. Happy i went and got out of bed. More so happy with performance.  Was very hot, humid and muggy, everyone was dripping in sweat and were overheating in the end. Pic is of top male in each distance, other two won 15k and 25k respectivly.

(00:02):
Run with the deer flies. 8K finished first overall in 3912.
Give or take a few seconds either way depending on what the
official time is. Also lost a couple minutes.
Probably 3 to 5 minutes. Got sent the wrong way so
definitely lost a few minutes there but whatever.

(00:25):
This was the first year for the 8K version.
They have a 15 to 25 K. It's the the standard two
distances where they added the shorter one this year, but one
of the try in out plus a lot of shape.
So wasn't going to, you know, hurt myself doing the longer
ones, which was probably the right decision today, at least

(00:49):
going in. I definitely could have finished
the 15 or 25 with how I felt afterwards, but I wasn't sure,
so it happens. Anyway, very happy with my
performance today, how my legs felt, how my body felt.
I was kind of actually shocked how well I did and how well I
felt, you know, running, racing and post race.

(01:14):
I feel really good now. So yeah, all positives.
I wasn't sure what to expect since I don't know what the 8K
course is going to be like so I just assumed it was going to,
you know, be the majority of the15 or 25, which I was correct.

(01:38):
There's only a maybe 3/10 difference.
It took you out and around to divert back onto the other
courses. Really didn't eat anything too
healthy this morning for breakfast at New Go Protein bar,
some crackers and a little fruitroll thing.

(02:03):
Sipped on some Gatorade a littlebit.
And then about 15 minutes beforethe race started, I drank in
Celsius just to get my blood flowing, you know, get awake,
give myself a little bit of extra performance boost.
Definitely worked to my advantage, I guess.
Maybe not an advantage for my heart but I'll take it.

(02:26):
Was definitely hot and humid allrace.
Even after the race it's still muggy as hell.
Out now you know 4 hours after the race.
Definitely dripping in sweat from head to toe.
Did wet myself down for the race.
Thankfully. I did that, definitely would
have died otherwise. Started at the normal spot.

(02:52):
All three races start together, do a quick what basically a mile
around like the Camp Seth Mac area before you go out and
actually hit some single track dirt trails.
Me and my buddy AJ we're runningtogether basically for the 1st 2
miles. I don't want to say too

(03:13):
comfortably but we were what, running pretty comfortably?
Having a like full boiling conversation as we're running.
So I was kind of happy with that.
He was doing the 25, you know, and we were out in front.
So it was just nice to be able to run comfortably in that first
couple miles, you know, to get warmed up and fill things out as

(03:34):
we're running up and down some of those earlier hills.
I don't know if you know the course, but it goes, yeah, it
goes around like the Camp Seth Mack area.
And then you hit this nice little incline up this grassy
section again before you hit like some of the dirt trails for

(03:54):
about a mile. Then if you ever heard me talk
about the 25 Ki, don't I don't want to get into that today, but
after like 2 miles, that first aid station, like by the one
church area, that's where 25 to 15 split off the one way keep

(04:14):
going out and then the 8K makes a quick left up the road.
That's where like the the diversion or whatever it is,
whatever the word is where you divert, I guess.
Yeah, divert away from the othertwo races for a couple tenths.

(04:35):
These sort of like an outer loop.
It's a quick dirt and then you hit like a gravel access room
type trail for the next couple of tents.
There was a couple people pointing in the right direction

(04:57):
on that, but it was also confusing.
That's where I actually got lostor well sent the wrong way.
There's a kid sitting there and every volunteer today I made
sure I was like, hey, am I goingthe right way?
Which way do I go? Like I'll ask those two
questions because I didn't want to get lost being out the front.

(05:17):
But this kid just said, yeah, I keep going straight down the
road. And then I saw 2 markings on the
course. I saw like the ribbons on the
left and right hand side of the road.
And then I go back to the kid. I'm like, hey, where, where do I
go? He's like, hey, just keep going
straight on the road. So I went past those, the left

(05:40):
and the right, and it went down to the open.
Somebody's like driveway. And I was like, oh, shit, this
isn't the right way. This is where I lost that like,
good 3 to 5 minutes at least a time, probably closer to five.
I'd have to look at my, you know, GPX file when I upload it,
see what it really looks like and how much time I lost.

(06:06):
But yeah, I get to the guy's driveway and then I'm like, chip
this throwing away. So I go back to that kid and
he's like, hey, which way am I supposed to go?
He's like, oh, you're supposed to take the left.
I'm like, oh God, you know, I was so pissed off at that point,
You know, I thought my race was over and I was like, hey, is
there anybody in front of me now?
And he's like, yeah, I'm like, oh shit.

(06:26):
I was like, because you know, when you lose 3 to 5 minutes,
you don't know how many people are in front of you.
And it's hard to make up 3 to 5 minutes in a five mile race.
So I basically turned it on, waspushing way harder, probably in
that red red line off tempo zonefor the next, you know, I don't

(06:53):
know, solid half mile, just, youknow, 3/4 of a mile maybe.
I don't even think it was a miletrying to catch back up to
people because I figured if I was like a minute and 1/2, which
I think I was 2 miles in, I thought there was a possibility
of making it back up. The reason why I say it was like

(07:17):
a minute and a half because whenwe got there at 8 station, there
was nobody around me and AJ whenwe split that I could see like
the straight stretch. So I had a really huge lead.
So I thought I can make it up, but I wasn't sure because I
wasn't sure exactly how much mileage was left in the race
because I figured 8 Ki couldn't.I couldn't really do the math.

(07:40):
I was figuring a little five, 5 1/2 miles total.
You know, give or take a couple of tenths either way, depending
on the wood watch puts up and how they actually divert the
trail. You know, it's trail racing, so
you almost have to give a half mile short slash long for a

(08:01):
trail race in general terms, because trail races are never
exact. So it's like, all right, I got
work to do. I got like 2 miles left, got
some work to do. Caught back up to the kid who
did end up being in front. I saw him, I don't know, 50 to

(08:28):
70 yards ahead of me when I was redlining.
So I, I pulled back just that a little bit there to catch my
breath and relax myself before catching up and passing him back
up because I didn't want, I justdidn't want to like blow past or
keep redlining. I wanted to relax and calm

(08:48):
myself down before I went past and pushed past him because I
wasn't sure at the time that he was the only one in front of me.
So when I caught up to him, I I know the kid and I was like,
Hey, how many's in front? He's like, you know, just one.
It's like Dean, I'm like, hey, that's me, because like I was

(09:11):
doing it as I was like coming upfrom behind him, like and
passing him. I was like, oh, that's me.
I was like, I got something wrong.
He's like, oh, all right. So then I tried to pass Gav and
marry him there a little bit andpushed on because I was still
riding the adrenaline a little bit of having get lost.
You know, you get, you get sent the wrong way or get lost.

(09:33):
You sort of get that adrenaline slash like anger, desperation
type feeling all mixed together. It's a, it's a hard feeling to
describe, but I was still running that way even though I
was trying to hold back and calmmyself.

(09:53):
But it just makes you run fasterto begin with.
Be nice when you know how to channel that.
Anyway, so I'm still running madas I passed him and I was still
worried. This is like, how much energy am
I going to have left? Because I knew I was going to

(10:15):
crash at some point, or at leastthought I was going to crash at
some point, having used all thatenergy just to catch back up to
him, to pass him. It's always one of those risky
maneuvers, especially in a shortrace.
If it was like a, you know, halfmarathon or something that
early, I wouldn't have worried as much.
But a shorter distance and only had two miles to make the time

(10:36):
back up, That's what really got me going.
And that was let me see when I saw him, it was like right after
a couple of little grassy crossings that we did, we ended
up on the backside of like the camp Seth back like the first

(10:57):
like technical part behind there.
It's when I first caught a glimpse of him as I was going
uphill. And then I, I passed him before
the other split for the 15K and the 25 K section on that

(11:19):
technical part because we kept going straight and didn't like
the switchbacks before we hit the road to head back.
And that volunteer there, I was like, I made sure because I only
saw the signs for the 25 and 15.I was like, hey, we're still
going the right way. Did the switchbacks.
I felt pretty good on the switchbacks flying down the
switchbacks using all that free speed.

(11:41):
Then once we popped out on the road to head back, saw the one
other volunteer guy there. It's like, hey, which way do we
go? He said just keep going straight
on the road. So I felt more confident then
the last what is it mileage to go because it's more on like a

(12:04):
gravel road and a little bit of grass section that last mile
into the finish line. So once I hit the road I knew I
was safe unless like something bad happened like a cramp or I
just completely just died. Then I was able to relax some

(12:25):
coming back around the buildings.
I wasn't sure where we were turning at how we because when
we 1st loop out that first mile we take One Direction on a on a
different trail to the right andI know we don't take it on the

(12:48):
way back. So I was getting a little
confused where it was because again, I didn't have the 8K GPX
file on my watch, but then I didn't see somebody on the head
when we were by when I was by that turn that we took in the
first time was like, hey, where do I go?

(13:10):
She said up this way. So that's felt confident after
that just cruised into the finish line.
So, and it wasn't a perfect racefor me, could have been worse,
could have been better. I mean, performance wise, I

(13:30):
performed way better than I expected.
My body reacted way better than I thought it would.
That's why I signed up for the 8K, because I really didn't
expect myself to be able to handle the 15 or the 25.
I'm still glad I only did the 8K, probably because I won, even

(13:54):
though I probably should have did the 15 or 25 and just
suffered through. But I also thought the storms
this morning were going to roll back in.
At least that's what the radar projected at like 10:00.
The storms were going to hit at least at least by well latest by
10:00 we were going to come in and I was like, well, I'm all
going to be on that backside of the 25 K and have the storms

(14:17):
roll in on top maybe with thunderstorms.
That was another reason because just plain it smart even for the
15K. It's like how long going to get
caught out in the rain on some of their sections and
thunderstorms if they rolled in,but they actually never rolled
in. So that's good but also
disappointing because you know that was one of the reasons why

(14:40):
I didn't do those as well. But yeah, 5 miles pace was like
a 743 I think for those 5 miles and it would have been a lot
quicker, like I said, 3 to 5 minutes quicker.
So it would have been a low 7 probably if I didn't get sent

(15:02):
the wrong way. So, you know, even if it was
like a 715 to 7 minute pace, if you take off that 3 to 5
minutes, I would have definitelybeen happy with that.
I mean, you're doing a trail race.
I think I had like 750, seven, 180 feet of gain in the set

(15:24):
because they were about 8. I think it was 740 for on the
office they had. So that's, you know, a hell of a
good pace for the different liketerrain and technicality and
stuff like that. Again, most of that probably had
to do with my adrenaline kickingin after getting sent the wrong
way, but I mean, I guess it was marked well and they had

(15:51):
volunteers at the crucial pointsof the race.
It was just that one kid really didn't know.
He was up a little bit farther than he should have been at the
beginning, but then the he movednow when I came back to where he
should have been. So that was like the only snafu

(16:15):
in the 8K part of the race. I think my one buddy went the
wrong way in the 25 K loop. He did the whole spillway loop
the opposite way, but there's always people that do that.

(16:36):
Other than that, I guess that's about it.
This was the board that I got this cool looking bowl.
So happy I got the cool looking bowl.
Got to talk to a bunch of people, so I need some others.

(16:58):
So I'm definitely happy with that.
It's nice to see people took a bunch of clips, have them up
soon. Other than that, yeah, nice to
get out and see my friends and such today, racing, having a
good time even though it was hotand humid and muggy and

(17:20):
everybody was complaining about the heat and humidity.
Didn't really affect me too muchbecause the way I've been
training in my sauna suit. So it's definitely A+, even
though I did fill it, but it didn't affect me like I normally
would. So yeah, yes, that's about it.

(17:44):
I'm just glad I went and got outof bed because I didn't sign up
until this morning when I got there.
So yeah, sometimes things pay off, I guess.
