Juliana Barbati (00:00):
When I launched my podcast back in May of 2020,

(00:03):
I literally launched to anaudience of no one. So what I
did was I went to the Applepodcast app, and I left my
podcast a review. And then Itook my husband's iPhone, and I
left my podcast a review again. And that was it. That's how I
started. That was my huge biglaunch strategy for launching my
podcast back in May of 2020. Oh,fast forward three years, and I

(00:28):
now have a top half percentranking worldwide podcasts,
which is crazy for me to say, because it's not like I'm a
household name. It's not likeI'm popular by any means. But I
have a very successful podcastthat is, honestly, the single
way that I grew my podcastbecause I focus so heavily on

(00:49):
it. So today, I want to sharewith you the five phases of
building my podcasting empire, Iguess we could say, so let's do
this.
Welcome to the Organic MarketingSimplified podcast. I'm your

smart, focused strategies foryour business growth. If you're

(01:12):
fed up with tactics to overpromise and under deliver,
leaving you exhausted instead ofexcited, this is the podcast for
you. Get ready to dive into deeppractical podcasting tips, smart
monetization and growth tacticsthat bring your business
visibility and profits. It'stime to simplify your strategy
and amplify your success. Let's go.

(01:33):
All right, my love. So welcomeback to the organic marketing
simplified podcast, let's goover my five phases of
podcasting that took me fromlaunching to literally no one to
now been sitting on a top halfpercent podcast. So number one
thing is that, as you heard frommy introduction, is that I
started imperfectly andhonestly, the reason why I was

(01:56):
the one reviewing my podcasts, and then I took my husband's
iPhone, and I review my podcastis because honestly, I didn't
even tell my husband, who was avery supportive man that I was
launching a podcast, I had allsorts of impostor syndrome. And
I was just scared and whateverfeelings you're feeling right

(02:16):
now of being unqualified, and myvoice sucks, and why am I doing
this, this is so as stressful. Iwas there. And honestly, I
invite you to go back and listento episode one of this podcast,
I had a very different focusthen than I do now. But when I
started my podcast, it was justlike, oh, my gosh, I have

(02:36):
listened to the first episode. And now I just want to hug that
like baby podcaster. And like, just congratulate her for taking
the first step. But honestly, here's the thing, it started
imperfectly, and the only thingscared that propelled me forward
because now I can honestly justsit here in refund episode, and

(02:57):
be okay with it.
So my biggest piece of adviceis, wherever you are in your
podcasting journey, whether youare starting or whether you have
been podcasting for a littlewhile, and you want to bring
more of your personality in oryou want to try something and
you're scared about it, you'renot sure maybe you want to pivot
your podcast and you're feelingscared. Allow yourself to

(03:17):
actually go there. And let'swrite out some worst case
scenarios. And let's think aboutif the worst case scenario comes
to be, what can we do aboutthis? You know, because you may
find that it's actually not thatbad. And it's when you take
those like bold, scary moves, that you actually seek ropes. So
that's my number one tip.
Okay, the second phase ofgrowing my podcast is that I

(03:40):
tried new things. Again, if yougo back and listen, you don't
even have to listen, you canjust like scroll down back to
episode one. You're gonna seethat one, I have pivoted my
podcast. So in the verybeginning episodes, I really had
a hard time owning my zone ofgenius, which, back then I
really focused on Etsy andselling on Amazon and like

(04:01):
e-commerce in general. But eventhough I had expertise selling
all those platforms, my firsttwo episodes, I didn't talk
about Etsy, I didn't talk aboutAmazon, they were very like, how
to start an email list and whatis MCA and it was just very
basic and very vanilla. And Iwas just like super scared. So
then my first pivot came aroundprobably episode 10 or so where

(04:23):
I'm like, Okay, let's talk aboutEtsy and Amazon and those
And then fast forward toDecember 2021. I honestly felt
things.
like I had said everything therewas to say about e-commerce and
I felt like I had a reallyamazing podcast and the advice
that I was sharing was verydifferent from what everybody

(04:43):
else was sharing in the space, but it wasn't fulfilling my soul
anymore. So it came time topivot. And by the way, there was
another pivot between 2020 and2021. I changed my name from so
I started off being the BeginnerMom Boss, and then I switched
Over to the Fruitful Mama. No,that's not true. See, so many

(05:04):
pivots I don't even remember, Istarted off as a Beginner Mom
Boss, and then I went to theEcommerce Mama. And then I
became the Fruitful Mama. SoI've pivoted, and I didn't even
stop there. Because after theFruitful Mama came the Organic
Marketing Queen. And that wasjust like, I was going through a
phase. And I don't know whathappened. My emotions got the

(05:26):
best of me, and after like amonth of being the Organic
Marketing Queen, I really hatedit. And I was like, What was I
thinking? This was really dumb. But the beautiful thing is, is
that it eventually led me toOrganic Marketing Simplified,
which I love this brand, I thinkreally encapsulates me, because
even when you go back to thevery beginning of my podcasting

(05:48):
journey, I had always beentalking about SEO and organic
growth and all those things, because those are things that
really are my zone of genius andthings that I'm passionate
about.
But again, it's because Iallowed myself to pivot and I
tried new things. And I wasalways, of course, within the
same realm. So my podcast wasalways in the business,
entrepreneurship, organicmarketing world, it's not like

(06:09):
one day, I was talking aboutdieting. And the next day I was
talking about business. Theoverarching theme of my podcast
is always the same. I was justtrying things out and as I
changed it, and as I evolved, mypodcast evolved with me, but not
being afraid to actually try newthings is going to be key in
your podcasting growth. Becauseif you keep trying to stay the

(06:32):
same, so your audience keepsloving you, you're actually
doing yourself and your audienceof service, because praise the
Lord, that I am not the sameperson today, that I was a year
ago, because I have learned, Ihave grown, I have evolved. So
it's important that you bringyour audience on the journey
with you. It doesn't mean thatyou have to pivot your podcasts
every single time. But as yougrow and expand, don't feel like

(06:56):
you have to modify yourself andput yourself in a box. And you
cannot talk about new andimproved things just because you
feel like you have design so youcan never ever change. So allow
yourself to try new things.
Phase number three was somethingthat I honestly did throughout
my podcasting career. So whetherI was the Beginner Mom Boss or

(07:18):
Ecommerce Mama or OrganicMarketing Simplified, again,
referring back to try newthings, I optimize new things,
too. So I would try somethingnew. And when I found my footing
and something was working, Iwould then go ahead and optimize
the thing that was working. Soeven if you go back to this
podcast, you'll see that therewere times that I did one

(07:39):
episode a week, than I did threeepisodes a week, I did two
episodes a week, I have donefive episodes a week, Monday
through Friday for likestretches at a time. I've tried
it all. And I can tell you that,by optimizing and studying and
looking at the data that once aweek actually, surprisingly,
works the best for me. But thatwas the biggest thing is that I

(08:01):
wouldn't have found that out ifI wasn't constantly optimizing
my podcast. So again, this goesback to just having this kind of
scientific researcher mindsetwhere you're, in a sense, trying
to be detached from the outcome, which is very hard, it's very
difficult for me to because I'ma human being. And I want
everything that I put out to beamazing and for everything to

(08:24):
work. But it's because there aretimes that I am able to walk
away and just have this bird'seye view on my business and be
objective about what's working, what's not working and letting
go of the things not working, even though I want them to work
and actually focusing my energyon the things that are working,
that I have been able to grow mypodcast.

(08:45):
So phase four is optimizing. Andby the way, phase four never
really ends. Because again, going back to point number
three, phase number three isthat you are always growing, you
are always expanding. So as yougrow, as you expand, and as you
start to gain more knowledge, that is going to transfer over
to your podcast, too. So it's abeautiful thing to always be

(09:06):
optimizing and to always betrying new things. Phase four of
growing my podcast isvisibility. So in the beginning
of my journey, I really justfocused on staying on my lane
and putting my head down andworking. And of course, you're
gonna hear me say the word SEO,because SEO has always been a

(09:26):
part of my journey. But it wasreally sitting down and focusing
on those keywords, optimizingthose keywords that I was able
to grow my podcast and I cantell you right now, the social
media had nothing to do withthat growth whatsoever. While
now I am dabbling in the socialmedia world and I'm trying some
new things. My growth from zeroto top half percent podcast was

(09:51):
completely away from socialmedia. I never was really used
social media to promote mypodcast. I was never one of
those people. It just reallygrew organically from the
podcasts from using thosekeywords. And I was just super
hyper focused on making mypodcast work because I
understood very early on that apodcast will grow inside of a

(10:12):
podcast because podcastlisteners listen to podcasts.
So praise the Lord that I didnot waste time trying to do all
these things instead of wassocial media when I was trying
to grow my podcast, which by theway, that phase never really
ends. I am always trying to growmy podcasts. And I am always
trying to get more visibility tomy podcast. But from launching

(10:34):
my podcast to an audience of oneto one to a top half percent
podcast, it all happenedorganically because of really
juicy SEO really juicy keywords, understanding my audience, and
not really focusing on socialmedia because I really feel like
social media would actually havedistracted me from the main

(10:54):
goal. Because when you thinkabout life, real life, like I'll
share me as an example, I am amom of two very energetic kids.
My kids are homeschooled. I amcurrently pregnant with my
three, my husband and I, forsome reason like to move around
a lot, we have lived in I don'teven I have lost count of how

(11:14):
many countries around the worldwe have lived in. So we live a
busy life. So if I wasstretching myself trying to grow
a podcast, but also focusing onInstagram, and then TikTok and,
and LinkedIn or whatever, Iwould have lost sight of what's
actually important, which ofcourse, my family comes number
one, but I have to support thatsaid family. So then the
business is number two, right? So it was because I was able to

(11:38):
really focus in and focus on thepodcast, and even when, in the
beginning of my journey, evenwhen I didn't see growth, or
even when I did a pivot, andthen my download numbers
plummeted, because people didn'tlike the direction that I was
going with my podcasts I staycommitted. And I might have
freaked out for a minute or two.But then it's a lesson in, it's

(12:00):
remembering that you can alwaystrust God that if you surrender
to Him, good things will come.So while you know face for
visibility has always been partof my podcasting journey. Maybe
not at the beginning, thebeginning, I kind of wanted to,
like not be found. And it wasweird for me when people would
email me and tell me that theylistened to my podcast was
really strange. But as I grow, and as I evolve, I keep focusing

(12:23):
on visibility more and more. Andthe way that I do that is
because of phase four, becauseI'm always optimizing what's
working.
Now, phase Five of growing mypodcast is very boring. Let me
sidetrack here for a secondactually say that it's very easy
for me to have a ton of ideas, and for me to want to implement
all of them. Like, for example, the first time that I heard

(12:46):
about Lemonaid, which I don'teven know if this platform is
around anymore. But it wasreally hot around I want to say
May 2023. And I really feltlike, Oh my gosh, I am like one
of the first people to hearabout this platform. And I'm
going to get on, and I'm goingto see the growth that people
saw back when they started theirInstagram account in like 2010,

(13:08):
whatever. And I got on theplatform, I had a whole plan.
And like I think I posted onceor twice and I'm like, Okay,
this is not for me. So thank Godthat I have this ability to see
what's going to work, what's notgoing to work very fast, because
there was just something goingon with a platform that I'm
like, Okay, this, this really isnot for me. It's just a shiny

(13:28):
object. So it's because I focuson what's working. And I rinse
and repeat what's working. And Ikeep optimizing that I was able
to get here today. Theoverarching thing that you can
see in this five phases is thatI stay committed.
Listen, there was a point in mypodcasting career towards the
beginning of my journey, I thinkit was episode 25. Or maybe it

(13:50):
was episode 50, I wascelebrating this huge milestone,
and I did a giveaway, nobodyentered. And guess what, that
did not stop me from podcastingfrom trekking along. Because it
just is what it is nobodyentered my giveaway. And I did
not take the person I just kepton going. Because sometimes in
life, you have to let go of thislittle things, because there's

(14:11):
something bigger coming on aheadof you. So being detached from
the outcome as hard as it isbecause our business is in a
way, our baby, we wanteverything to work. We want
everything to be successful. Butsometimes you just need to walk
away and start with the end inmind and just having like that
direction, like I'm going, thisis the direction I'm going, this

(14:31):
direction going, and I'm notgoing to stop. So commitment is
key.
Now because I'm all aboutsharing the journey. I actually
highly recommend that you goback and listen to episode 203
where I actually talk about howI had become a top one and a
half percent podcaster back thenso you can see the journey so
you can see the difference. Soyou can even see how I have

(14:53):
changed because I think it'simportant to normalize all that.
That you are going to change, that you are going to expand and
Praise the Lord, that is abeautiful thing because that
means that you are growing, thatyou're learning more, and that
the path ahead is beautiful.
And next week, we're taking aturn, and we're talking about
Canva templates for podcasters. And I'm so so so, so excited to

(15:14):
share this podcast episode withyou, because we all know Canva
is amazing, but how can you as apodcaster actually leverage
Canva to your advantage. Sowe're gonna go over all the ways
that you can use Canva to reallyblow up your podcast. And you
might be thinking, how can Canvahelp me with my podcasts? Well,
obviously, this is in the realmof branding, which is super

(15:34):
important, and it's a huge pieceof the podcasting puzzle. So
make sure that you subscribe tothe podcast and until next time
may you find God's love, graceand mercy and peace and I'll see
you then bye.
