In this transformative episode, we explore the profound teachings of Jesus surrounding the concept of bread and spiritual nourishment. The "Bread of Life"—is essential for our spiritual existence. As believers, we often find ourselves hungering for deeper truths; therefore, this episode becomes a clarion call to seek the nourishment that Jesus offers.

The focal point of our discussion revolves around the phrase "He took, blessed, broke, and gave," a pattern evident in various biblical accounts relating to Jesus. As we dissect this phrase, we unveil a layered understanding of Jesus as both the giver and the gift. He reflects on the ways of the natural world, juxtaposing them with the spiritual truths encapsulated within. The sacramental nature of these actions embodies the essence of communion: a shared life among believers, thriving through faith in Christ. When Jesus spoke of providing eternal life, he was not referring to physical sustenance but an invitation to a deeper relationship with him.

We delve into the discourse from John 6, where Jesus asserts, "I am the bread of life." It is critical to grasp that Jesus is not merely a provider of physical bread but the source of spiritual life. He elucidates that those who believe in Him will never face spiritual hunger again. However, in this teaching lies a stark contrast, as many fail to comprehend the spiritual implications of his statements. They seek material breadcrumbs instead of engaging in the profound spiritual conversations taking place. Through examining passages from the Gospels, we discuss how many misconstrue his teachings due to a natural understanding of the divine.

The episode culminates with an exploration of what it means to truly partake in Jesus’ body and blood. By referencing the Last Supper, we symbolize the act of receiving Jesus into our lives through faith and obedience to his word. We emphasize the need for spiritual understanding to grasp the full magnitude of His message. The implications of “eating” his flesh and “drinking” his blood call believers to embrace a life of devotion and trust in Him. Furthermore, we investigate how steadfast faith in Jesus leads to a transformed life, cultivating the fruit of the Spirit in those who believe.

j - Jesus M. Ruiz (00:03):
The vision received was that of blood cells
traveling throughout the body, supplying the much-needed oxygen
and other nutrients to thediffering members of the body to
fulfill their purpose.
Once the blood cells are spent, they must return back to the
heart to be refilled beforebeing sent out again and fulfill
their purpose.
Bless the Lord.

(00:25):
I want to thank everyone forcoming today, not just for me.
You didn't come for me.
I'm sure you came to hear theword of the Lord and I thank you
that you feel enough trust thatyou would come to this house
and spend an hour, two hours, three hours to receive the Lord
here in this place.
I doubt that if you thought theLord was not here, that you

(00:45):
would continue coming here.
That would just waste your time.
So obviously you're here for areason, with some sort of
expectation, and I pray that I'mjust simply a vessel to be a
conduit, to administer what itis that God wants you to receive
today.
So we don't normally do this.

(01:06):
We don't ever do this.
I can't remember the last timewe ever do this, but I'm going
to ask everybody to stand forthe reading of the word Matthew
14.
And that's not all strange Ifyou've ever read the scriptures
in the old covenant.
When the word was read, theyall stood up.
All the people stood up.
So there is a reason for someof that.
It's about a reverence for theword of the Lord.

(01:27):
There isn't anything religiousabout it If your heart is right
and you're reverencing God'sword.
That's what we stand here for.
But we're going to read inMatthew 14, verse 19.
It says Then he commanded themultitudes to sit down on the
grass and he took the fiveloaves and the two fish and,

(01:50):
looking up to heaven, he blessedand broke and gave the loaves
to the disciples.
And the disciples gave to themultitudes.
You may be seated.
He took, he blessed, he brokeand he gave.
It's an interesting phrasethat's found in the scriptures

(02:11):
because it's not found thereonce.
It's found there at least threetimes.
I've known it for a while.
There was something that cameupon me a long time ago that
really opened my eyes to somethings about this little pattern
he takes, he blesses, he breaksit and he gives it.
And this is when he was aboutto feed the multitude 5,000.

(02:33):
And I'm not really focusingthat, but I'm focusing on the
fact that he took, he blessed,he broke and he gave.
And there's a pattern therebecause it happened two or three
more times.
I'm going to show you at leastthree more times.
But it starts with there has tobe an acknowledgement that there

(02:53):
are certain levels ofunderstanding, and I'm only
going to base it to two.
The levels of understandingnatural/ natural carnal and
spiritual.
And so I want to turn to John 6, because there's some very wild
things that Jesus said to thepeople that we should take note
of.
Very strange, very weird, veryout of this world type of things

(03:18):
that he said that if you justtake them naturally, if you stay
on a natural level ofunderstanding.
You think the man is nuts.
He's crazy Because the thingsthat he's saying are completely
contrary to what the scriptureshave taught us.
And so it says in verse 31 ofJohn, chapter 6,.

(03:39):
It says Our fathers ate mannain the desert.
The Jews were telling them, asit is written, he gave them
bread from heaven to eat.
And Jesus responded to them.
He said to them most assuredlyI say to you, Moses did not give
you the bread from heaven, butthat's what they said, because
they saw it in the scriptures,in Psalm 78.

(04:01):
He gave them bread from heavento eat.
That's what they interpreted itas.
But Jesus said Moses did notgive you the bread from heaven.
My father gives you the truebread from heaven.
And he says for the bread ofGod is he?

(04:22):
I'm stopping right there becauseI want you to now understand
that Jesus just said that thebread of God that comes from
heaven is He, a person.
It's not an it, it's not somesort of food particle.
He said the bread of God is Hewho comes down from heaven.
It's a person.

(04:42):
And this person who comes downfrom heaven, the bread of God,
gives life to the world.
And then they said to him butLord, give us this bread always.
They're thinking give me thatbread.
What is it French bread?
Is it Cuban bread?
What kind of bread is that?
Give me that bread, I want thatbread.

(05:02):
And Jesus said to them I am thebread of life.
And just stop right there.
What is he saying?
Put yourself in their position.
What is he saying?
They're thinking natural breadto eat, that they'll have
eternal life.
They're going to eat somethingand he's saying I am the bread

(05:24):
of life.
He who comes to me shall neverhunger and he who believes in me
shall never thirst.
Now, he didn't quote where thatcame from, but that actually
came from a prophetic word givento Isaiah in chapter 69, verse
10, or 49.10.

(05:44):
I may have typed that wrong.
Can you check that Is?
Or 49.10.
I may have typed that wrong.
Can you check that?
Is that Isaiah 49.10?
Yeah, it's 49.10.
And it says they shall neitherhunger nor thirst.
He took that one bit ofScripture.
And he took that one bit ofScripture and he applied it to

(06:05):
himself.
He said I am the bread of life,he who comes to me.
See, when you read that, youdon't get anything out of the
Messiah.
It says they shall neitherhunger nor thirst, nor heat or
sun shall strike them.
For he who has mercy on them, will lead them, even by the
springs of water.
He will guide them.
It's about a he doing somethingand now he's saying that he, I

(06:30):
am, the bread of life, is me.
He who comes to me, as Isaiahsaid, shall never hunger and
shall never thirst.
And then he says but I say toyou, you have seen me and yet
you do not believe I am thebread of life that you are
asking for, that you want to eatof.
But you see me and you don'tbelieve.

(06:53):
You don't receive me, you don'treceive my words, you're not
receiving what I'm sayingbecause you don't understand.
You're suddenly landing on anatural level.
You're looking for somemetaphysical bread out there
that's going to bring youeternal life, and I'm telling
you that I am the bread of lifethat gives life into the world.

(07:13):
All that the Father gives me hecontinues will come to me.
The one who comes to me I willabide and by no means cast out,
he says, for I have come downfrom heaven.
There's a certain unambiguityinto what he's saying.
There's a certain nomysteriousness about what he's

(07:36):
saying.
There is a bread of heaven thatthe Father gives, and that
bread of heaven, or the bread ofGod, is he whom the Father has
sent, and I'm telling you that Iam the bread of heaven or the
bread of God, is he whom theFather has sent and I'm telling
you that I am the bread of lifeand I have come down from heaven
, and I didn't come to do my own.
I came to do the will of himthat sent me this is the will of

(07:59):
the.
Father who sent me that, allthat of all he has given me, I
should lose nothing, but shouldraise it up at the last day.
What, what is he talking about?
What does that mean?
he goes on to say and this isthe will of him.
He repeats it.
Who sent me that everyone whosees the son and believes in him

(08:19):
may have everlasting life.
And I will raise him up at thelast day.
Very personal, I am the onethat's fulfilling this scripture
you come to me, you shall neverhunger, you shall never thirst.
I am the bread that giveseternal life.
And the Jews complained aboutit because he said I am the
bread.
They don't get it.

(08:40):
They're looking for somenatural bread.
They're looking for the mannathat was natural brought by God
to feed his people.
They're looking for somethinglike that to eat naturally.
That's not what God is talkingabout.
Jesus is speaking on a whole, entirely different level, and
it's not carnal, it's notnatural, it is not earthly, it

(09:03):
is a spiritual level.
He's giving a perspective, using natural terms to open up
the eyes of the kingdom of God.
And they said isn't that Jesus?
Isn't that the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know?

(09:27):
We?
Isn't that the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know?
He's the son of Mary.
Who is he that he's saying?
I'm the bread of God that comesdown from heaven.
I came down from heaven.
What?
is he?
talking about the man is nuts, his father and mother, joseph
and Mary.
We know who they are.
That makes sense that he camedown from heaven.
But Jesus therefore answeredand said unto them do not murmur

(09:50):
among yourselves.
No one can come to me.
Unless the Father who sent medraws him, I will raise him up
at the last day.
He just said it three times.
He's saying it again, over andover.
He just keeps repeating theword.
I will raise them up.
The Father will draw men unto me.
I, being the bread of life, will give them eternal life and

(10:14):
I will raise them up at the lastday.
It is written in the prophets.
He says they shall all betaught by God.
He's going now back to thescriptures he's breaking.
I don't know if you see that yet, but he's breaking.

(10:36):
Remember, we started with hetook, he blessed, he broke and
he gave.
He's breaking the old covenanthere.
Let me give it to you in amorsel that you can understand,
in a morsel that you can receive, because you can't handle it
all.
I need to break it down for you.
So he says therefore everyonewho has heard and learned from
the Father comes to me.
If you have an ear for theFather, then you're going to

(10:59):
hear me.
If you have an ear for theFather, you're going to come to
me, because the Father draws allto him to come to his Son,
jesus Christ.
No man can come to me unlessthe Father draws him.
And not that anyone has seenthe Father except he who is from

(11:19):
God.
He has seen the Father Mostassuredly.
I say to you he who believes inme has everlasting life.
And he says again I am thebread of life.
Your fathers ate manna in thewilderness.
They ate something natural inthe wilderness.
Don't get me wrong.

(11:39):
I'm not saying that didn'thappen, but they're dead.
So what use was that man thatyou think is going to bring you
eternal?
life, if it fed your fathers.
And they died anyway.
Because, if you know anythingabout the story, they died in
the wilderness.
Their carcasses rotted therebecause of their unbelief, again

(12:01):
because of their unbelief.
And what is Jesus saying tothem right now?
He who believes in me haseverlasting life.
That manna, that natural manna, did not provide everlasting
life.
They died.
This is the bread which comesdown from heaven that one may

(12:21):
eat of it and not die.
Think about what he's saying.
I am the bread of God.
I am the bread of life.
I came down from heaven.
I am the bread.
He said again, I am the breadof life.
He said again, the bread whichcomes down from heaven, that one
may eat of it and not die.
He's saying, he that eats of mewill not die, but you don't

(12:43):
believe in me.
I am the living bread whichcame down from heaven.
So now I'm going to put thesetwo ideas for you together.
They are not eating the bread.
Eating the bread is akin to.
They were not believing in him.
They were not believing in hiswords.

(13:04):
He's speaking spiritually, usingnatural terms.
What is it to eat of the bread?
It is to believe in Him.
It is to believe in His words.
But he's saying to them youdon't believe in me.
You see me and you still won'tbelieve in me.
And you're asking for the bread, and yet I'm right here before
you, but you won't receive of me, you won't believe in me, and

(13:24):
so you're not eating the breadthat will give you eternal life.
He says if anyone eats of thisbread, he will live forever.
And the bread?
Oh my gosh.
And then he goes on to say hetakes it up a notch.
They're not getting it, so hetakes it up a notch, he cranks
up the electricity and he saysthe bread that I shall give is

(13:45):
my flesh.
Well, he just said the bread ofGod is he who the father has
sent.
He said I am that bread.
He said I'm the one that camedown from heaven.
He said again I am the bread oflife.
I am the bread, the bread thatcomes down from heaven.
You need to eat of it unlessyou die.
And the bread that I shall giveis my flesh.

(14:09):
So what do you think?
They thought he was sayingCannibalism.
What are you talking about?
Jesus, you want me to eat ofyour flesh.
That's disgusting.
Not only is that disgusting, that's contrary to the law.
We're not supposed to eat anddrink of the blood of other men.
What are you talking about?
But they saw, naturally, he wasspeaking spiritually and they

(14:38):
could not understand what he wasmeaning, what he was saying.
He says the bread that I shallgive is my flesh.
And then he explains and theydidn't get it which I shall give
for the life of the world.
You see, he's talking about hisfuture sacrifice.
He's talking about I'm going tosacrifice myself for the sins
of all the world, but you don'tbelieve in me.
You see, it's about believingin that sacrifice, that it does

(15:02):
take care of the sins of all theworld, and personally yours.
And the Jews thereforequarreled among themselves,
saying how can this man give ushis flesh to eat, nasty, how can
he give us his flesh to eat?
But then Jesus said to them andhe takes it even higher, he

(15:24):
says, most assuredly, I say toyou, unless you eat the flesh of
the Son of man and drink hisblood, not only are you supposed
to eat the flesh, but you'resupposed to drink the blood.
He's become the Count ofNazareth, the Count of Galilee.
Who is this guy?
He must be nuts to think thatI'm going to eat his flesh and

(15:46):
now drink his blood.
But he said eat the flesh ofthe son of man and drink his
blood.
Unless you do that, you have nolife in you.
What did he mean?
What did he mean?
He says whoever eats my fleshand drinks my blood has eternal

(16:07):
life.
Anybody says to you that todayyou think he's nuts.
You would that guy's nuts.
He wants me to eat his fleshand drink his blood.
That's what he said and that'swhat I have to do to have
eternal life.
Please get out of my face.
You can't blame them.
But at the same time you needto realize you're thinking

(16:30):
carnally, because he is givingexplanation as to what he would
do.
What was his flesh?
The bread was his flesh that hewould give for the sins of the
world.
He was talking about something.
They had no idea what was goingon For my flesh.
He continues.
He just keeps cranking it up.
My flesh is food, indeed.

(16:52):
My blood is drink, indeed, itreally is.
He who eats my flesh and drinksmy blood abides in me and I in
him.
And it reminded me as.
I read this scripture InLeviticus 17, 11, just real
quick, and we're going to comeback to this John 6.

(17:13):
It says the life of the flesh isthe blood.
For the life of the flesh is inthe blood, and I have given it
to you upon the altar to make anatonement for your souls, for
it is the blood that make anatonement for your soul.
If you read that and you coupleit with this, what's he talking

(17:36):
about?
He's talking about hissacrifice.
He's talking about his bloodbeing shed.
For what An atonement for yoursouls.
He's talking about his bloodbeing shed for what Anatomy for
your souls.
He's talking about what was hisdestiny, what was his purpose?
He destroyed the works of thedevil through his death, but
they didn't get it.
And so Jesus doesn't lay back, but he cranks it up even further

(18:01):
.
He says as the living father hassent me.
I live because of the father, sohe who feeds on me will live
because of me.
Feed on me Like a vulture oncarcass feed on him.
He says this is the bread whichcame down from heaven, Not as
your fathers ate the manna, andare dead.

(18:24):
He's emphasizing it againthey're dead.
They had manna that you believewas from God, and they're dead.
He who eats this bread willlive forever.
Now these things he said in thesynagogue as he taught in
Capernaum therefore many of hisdisciples.
his disciples, when they heardthis, said this is a hard saying

(18:47):
.
Who's going to understand this?
And when Jesus knew in himselfthat his own disciples
complained about what he wassaying, he said to them does
this offend you?
Are you offended at my word?
What then, if you should seethe Son of man ascend where he

(19:07):
was before?
What was that speaking of whenhe ascended back to the Father
after his resurrection?
What if you see me ascend upinto the ground?
And he says this, and he alwaysdoes this with his disciples.
He gives hard sayings, no doubtabout it.
He gives sayings that aremysterious.
He gives hard sayings, no doubtabout it.
He gives sayings that aremysterious.

(19:27):
He gives sayings and parablesthat nobody gets to understand.
But when he gets together withhis disciples, he always gives
them the revelation.
And the revelation is the nextfew words.
It is the Spirit who gives life.
The flesh profits nothing, Iknow.
I said eat of my flesh.

(19:49):
I know.
I said drink of my blood.
But now I give you therevelation.
The Spirit is who gives life.
The flesh doesn't profitanything.
The words, the words that Ispeak to you are Spirit.
The words that I speak to youare spirit and they are life.

(20:09):
What has he been talking aboutthe whole time when he said I am
the bread.
I am the bread, I am that whichcomes down from heaven.
I am the bread that giveseternal life.
He's been talking about thewords that he speaks are spirit
and they give life.
He's only giving that to thedisciples, but there are some of

(20:32):
you that who do not believe.
See, he had more than just the12.
By the time the upper room camearound, there were 120
disciples.
There were more disciples thanthe 12.
He had a gathering.
He had a following and some ofthem did not believe, and he
knew that.
And so he continues on to saybut there are some of you who do
not believe, for Jesus knewfrom the beginning who they were

(20:53):
, who did not believe and whowould betray him.
And he said therefore, I havesaid to you that no man or no
one can come to me unless it isgranted him by my Father.
And it says that many of hisdisciples went back and walked
with him.
They could not embrace the wordas it was given Now.

(21:21):
His disciples still didn'tunderstand.
They were as confounded as theJews.
What is he talking about?
Eat of his flesh?
What is he talking about?
Drink his blood?
What is he really saying?
To kill him and to drink?
What is he saying?
Then Jesus said to the twelvedo you also want to go away?

(21:42):
But Simon Peter answered him.
Remember, he represents thedisciples who didn't?
understand themselves.
But look at what Peter says, receiving what the Lord said.
He said Lord to whom?
shall we go?
What Peter got out of thatwhole spiel about?
I'm the bread of God, I'm thebread from heaven.
I came down from heaven to givelife.

(22:03):
You need to eat my flesh, youneed to drink my blood to have
eternal life.
This is what Peter got.
You have the words of eternallife.
Not a lot of understanding there, but that was profound
nevertheless.
In order for you to move on inyour understanding, you must
accept what's written.

(22:24):
You must accept what's pointblank.
What he said, even though youmay not understand it.
Or what Peter understood is Idon't understand, but you got
the words of eternal life.
He got a little bit ofrevelation Also.
We have come to believe andknow that you are the Christ,

(22:45):
the Son of the living God, andso I give this to you, because
this is a perfect example thatmany of the scriptures that we
read not just in the OldTestament but also in the New
Testament, that if you naturallyunderstand them, you could be
misled, you could be completelyoff what God had said In 1

(23:07):
Corinthians 2, verse 11,.
Paul says what man knows, thethings of man, except the spirit
of man?
Who knows what's going in yourheart, what's going on there?
But you?
You're the only one I don't know, not unless God gives me a
revelation, but nobody knowswhat's going in your heart but
you, and the same way thatnobody knows what's going in

(23:28):
your heart but you, nobody knowswhat's in the heart of God, but
the Spirit of God.
The Spirit of God is the heartof God.
So no one knows the things ofGod except the Spirit of God.
And it says we have received.
Now remember who's?
Corinthians, written to thesaints, the believers those that

(23:52):
were born again, according tothe gospel that Paul preached in
the city of Corinth and heraised up that church.
Now he's speaking to them andsaying you receive not the
Spirit of the world, but youreceive the Spirit who is from
God that we might know.
It is the spirit of God thatreveals to you the deep things

(24:14):
of the spirit so that you canhave what the disciples did not
have a spiritual understanding.
They got the understanding whenthey received the spirit.
And it says we receive theSpirit who is from God that we
might know, the things that havebeen freely given to us by God,
things we also speak.

(24:35):
Who's we?
Who's we here?
Not just the disciples, theapostles Paul was an apostle
with the rest of the apostlesthe things that we also speak in
words.
Not that man's wisdom teaches,but who's teaching?
What I'm teaching you, says theHoly Spirit teaches.

(24:57):
He is the one that is givingthese words of revelation to you
and it's comparing spiritualthings with spiritual things.
When you read the scriptures, you can read it on a level of
carnality and you will not getit.
But what you don't realize?
That even the black and whitewords are spiritual and they

(25:19):
must be understood, discernedspiritually.
That is the most importantthing.
Yes, you can know that in thepast there was manna that came
down from heaven that fed theIsraelites, so what they died.
We're not looking for thatmanna, we're looking for the

(25:42):
spiritual equivalent of what wasgoing on in the Old Covenant.
It says the natural man doesnot receive the things of the
Spirit of God.
They're foolishness, they arecomplete and utter foolishness
to him and he cannot know thethings of the Spirit of God

(26:03):
because they are spirituallydiscerned.
They don't have the Spirit tounderstand what the Spirit is
saying.
So if we turn to 2 Corinthians,3, 6, just to make this point,
who also made us sufficient asministers of the new covenant,

(26:25):
not of the letter, but of theSpirit.
The letter, what Kills?
If all you know is this letterin this Bible, it doesn't matter
, it kills.
There must be a spiritualunderstanding of his words.

(26:48):
In order to obtain and receiveeternal life, it has to be
spiritually discerned.
The Spirit, again Paul says, iswho gives life, and he says
that in the second book to theCorinthians.
So I want to talk about what didJesus say concerning his own
words, my words.
Jesus said concerning his words, heaven and earth shall pass

(27:11):
away, but my words, what Will byno means pass away?
He said my words.
Jesus said again my words willnever pass away.
In John 5, 46, he said if youbelieve Moses, you would believe

(27:31):
me.
Did they know the story ofMoses?
Did they know the account ofMoses?
Did they put their pride andall of their faith in being of
the seed of Moses and of Abraham?
They knew it all.
But look at what Jesus said ifyou believe Moses, you would
believe me.
Does that mean that they didn'tbelieve Moses?
There was unbelief.

(27:54):
They didn't even believe thewords that they had and it says,
for he wrote about me.
If you do not believe hiswritings, how will you believe
my words?
The father draws men to Jesus.
They hear his voice, notknowing it's his voice.

(28:17):
But when they do hear his voice, they end up doing exactly what
Jesus said, because they hearhis voice.
They hear the voice of theFather.
No mystery.
Jesus is the.
Father come in the flesh.
He is the Word which brings tolight what Peter said regarding

(28:37):
the prophets.
It says the Spirit of Christwas in the prophets and the
Spirit of Christ was testifying.
He was giving witness ofhimself.
He was testifying beforehand ofhis own sufferings and the
glories that would follow.
It says, even the angelsdesired to look into it.

(28:58):
They didn't understand either.
Don't you think that they wereready to rescue Jesus?
Just give us a word.
Lord, Give us a word.
Lord and they never got the word, they never rescued him from
the cross.
They didn't understand what wasgoing on, they didn't get it
themselves.
But I want to read verse 13 of1st Peter, 1, 10 to 13.

(29:24):
Therefore, gird up the loins ofyour mind, be sober and rest
your hope fully upon the gracethat is brought to you.
How is the grace brought to you?
By the revelation of JesusChrist.
It is the revelation of JesusChrist that imparts to you the

(29:47):
grace that you need.
That imparts to you the gracethat you need.
Jesus said if anyone talkingabout my words, if anyone hears
my words now, this is after.
This is John, chapter 12.
We read John, chapter 6, allthose 30 verses.
We're now in John chapter 12,and he is still breaking his

(30:10):
word now for his disciples.
And he says if anyone hears myword and does not believe, I'm
not going to judge them.
I did not come to judge theworld.
I came to save the world.
He who rejects me does notreceive my words.
Notice the tying of thesesynonyms If you hear my word and

(30:32):
you do not believe, it's akinto rejecting me.
You don't receive my words.
And what is going to judge himis the word that I have spoken.
It will judge him in the lastday.
I go two chapters later.
He's still on this topic and inJohn he's on the topic of the

(30:54):
Holy Ghost.
But I'm not covering that rightnow.
But in John 14, 9 through 21,.
Jesus said to him oh gosh, whoasked Show us the Father?
Who asked that?
Was that Thomas?
It was Thomas.
Okay, who was Thomas?
He says have I been with you solong?
Oh no, it was Philip.

(31:14):
Have I been with you so long?
And yet you have not known me,philip.
He who has seen me has seen theFather.
So how can you say show us theFather, philip?
Do you not believe?
Do you not believe that I am inthe Father and the Father is in

(31:38):
me, the words he says, thewords that I speak to you.
I don't speak of my ownauthority, but the Father who
dwells in me does the works isspeaking.
What do you mean?
Show me the Father who dwellsin me does the works is speaking
.
What do you mean?
Show me the Father.
I'm speaking, the words of theFather to you.
Believe me that I am in theFather and the Father is in me,

(32:03):
or else believe me for the sakeof the works themselves.
But most assuredly I say to you, he who believes in me, the
work that I do, he will do also, and greater works than these
will he do, because I go to myFather.
We know what happened.
He ascended to the Father andhe poured out his Holy Spirit

(32:23):
upon all the world, and he doesso to this day.
And he began on the day ofPentecost.
But it was not loosed in thatrespect until he ascended to the
Father.
He says in verse 15, if youlove me he's breaking the word

(32:46):
If you love me, keep mycommandments.
I'm telling you what love is.
Yes, you know.
Deuteronomy 6.4.
Love the Lord your.
God with all your heart, withall your soul, with all your
mind and strength.
If you love me, keep mycommandments.

(33:06):
And Jesus says if you do that, Iwill pray that the Father will
give you another helper, that hemay abide with you forever.
The Spirit of Truth is a titlefor him.
Whom the world?
The world cannot receive theSpirit of Truth because it
neither sees him nor knows him,but it says you know him.

(33:28):
It also says he dwells with you.
Who's he talking to?
He's talking to the disciples.
You know him.
It also says he dwells with you.
Who's he talking to?
He's talking to the disciples.
You know him.
He's dwelling with youpresently, right now, in the
body of Jesus Christ, and thenhe prophesies and will be in you
.

(33:48):
He's not in you now but he'll bein you, I will not leave you,
orphans.
Oh, very interesting.
He's talking about the Fatherwill send the Spirit of Truth
and he says but I will not leaveyou, orphans, I will come to
you.
He was talking about himselfthe whole time, using different
terms that apply to him Son ofman, son of God, spirit of truth

(34:13):
.
He says a little while longeryou will not see me anymore, but
you will see me because I liveand you will live also.
And on that day you will knowthat I am in the Father and you
are in me and I am in you.
And he who has my commandmentsand keeps them, it is he who

(34:37):
loves me.
Going back to what it is tolove him, he who loves me, keeps
my commandments, and he wholoves me will be loved by my
Father and I will love him andmanifest myself unto him by my
Father and I will love him andmanifest myself unto him.
Now we're almost in the middleor the end of John in John 14.
But there was something thatwas said of Jesus way back in

(35:00):
John, chapter 3, verse 34.
And it's what he was saying toPhilip.
Philip, how can you ask me toshow you the Father?
He's speaking through me, he'sgiving you these words, and in
John 3, 34, it says For he whomGod has sent speaks the words of

(35:25):
God.
Now I go back to John 15,because he's talking about being
in the vine.
The Father is the vine dresser,I am the true vine and he says
you are already clean because ofthe word that I've spoken to

(35:47):
you, the word that I've spokento you.
Now he's speaking to hisdisciples.
Did this apply to the Jews thatwere around, that were listening
, that did not understand?
Were they cleaned by the wordspoken to them?
They did not receive it, theydid not believe in it, they did
not believe in his word, but thedisciples did, even though they

(36:10):
did not understand, and justbecause they received the word,
they were clean Through the wordthat was spoken unto them.
He says in verse 7, if youabide in me, how do you abide in
Jesus and my words abide in you?

(36:31):
There's a simultaneous abidingof one another and you abide in
him by having his words abide inyou, which goes back to what
he's been saying constantly Ifyou love me keep my commandments
.
He who has my commandments andkeeps them, it is he who loves
me.
And he says in verse 9, In mywords abide in you, you abide in

(36:57):
my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, Just
as I have been an example to you, as I have abided in my
Father's commandments, and Iabide in his love if you do the
same thing with me.
And the words that I give to youif you abide in them, my love

(37:19):
will be abided with you.
Jesus spoke on the night of thelast supper.
Matthew 26, 26,.
And then, as they were eating,it says again Jesus took the

(37:40):
bread, he blessed it, he brokeit and he gave it to the
disciples and said take, eat.
This is the same.
Jesus that spoke in John abouteating his flesh and eating his
blood, and he followed the trail.
Now comes the last supper, andMatthew gives this perspective

(38:02):
Take, eat of this body, thisbroken bread.
I'm only using it as a naturalexample to take heed of this
body.
In Mark, chapter 4, we have anaccount of the parable of the
sower, and it's a completelynatural account If we turn to

(38:24):
Mark 4, verse 3.
He's just teaching parables,he's just giving teachings, and
he gives this particular parable, hearken.
Behold, there went out a sowerto sow and it came to pass.
As he sowed, some fell by thewayside and the fowls of the air

(38:46):
came and devoured it up, andsome fell on the stony ground
where it had not much earth, andimmediately it sprang up
because it had no depth of earth.
But when the sun was up it wasscorched and because it had no
root it withered away.
And some fell among the thornsand the thorns grew up and
choked it and yielded no fruit.
And other fell on good groundand did yield fruit.

(39:07):
That sprang up and increasedand brought forth some thirty
and some sixty and some ahundred.
And he said unto them he thathath ears to hear, let him hear
Completely natural accountTalking about a farmer.
He's sowing seed and some ofit's falling by the wayside.
Look what happens.
Some falls upon the stonyground.
Look at what happens.
Some falls into thorns.

(39:27):
Look at what happens.
And some falls in good ground.
Look at what happens, andthat's it.
He's done.
He's doing a lot of teaching, but he gave that one.
Now what are you supposed toget out of that?
Our farmer farms?
What's the point of that?
He goes on to elaborate on that.

(39:50):
He's taking.
He's blessed, it's alreadyblessed.
You are clean through the wordthat I've spoken to.
It's already blessed, and nowhe's breaking it.
So, in Mark 4, 13, he said tothem do you not understand the
parable?
How then will you?
understand all parables.
So let me break it down for you.
The sower sows the word.
He sows it by the wayside, hesows it by the thorn in the

(40:10):
ground, he sows it by the thornsand he sows it by the good
ground.
I'm only going to focus on thegood ground because it says the
good ground hears the word, accepts it and bears fruit.
I'm giving you the revelation.
I'm not talking about farming.
I'm talking about people thathear the word of God and what

(40:31):
they do with it, and the onethat's sown in good ground hears
and accepts it and bears fruit.
If anyone has ear to hear, lethim hear.
We say that a lot.
And whenever that's said in thescriptures.
Whoever has ears to hear, lethim hear.
It's talking about hearing thespirit of God.
It's about talking about hearingthe Spirit of God.
It's talking about hearing thevoice of God.

(40:52):
And then he says, then he saidto them take heed what you hear.
I'm going to come back to that.
Take heed what it is thatyou're hearing.
Be careful what you'relistening to.
Now I'm going to go to theparallel passage of the same
thing, where he's givingrevelation, but now it's through

(41:12):
Matthew's account, throughMatthew's perspective, and he
says blessed are your eyestalking to the disciples, for
they see.
Blessed are your ears, for theyhear what is it that they see?
Tell me what is it that theysee?
Any guesses?

(41:34):
Blessed are your eyes, for theysee what are they looking at?
Who's talking to them?
Jesus?
You guys see the promised one,the Messiah, the Christ, the one
that was prophesied.
Blessed are you, for you'veseen, and blessed are your ears,
for you hear.
Now, what were they hearing?
His words.

(41:55):
They were hearing his words, they received his words, they
were accepting it and they werebeginning the process of bearing
forth fruit, which doesn'thappen overnight.
So he says in this accountanyone who hears the word of the
kingdom, see the previous one, just says so.
Or who hears the word of thekingdom, see the previous one,
just says the sober so is theword, that was what, maybe what

(42:16):
marks perspective on it, butMatthews perspective.
It says anyone who hears theword of the kingdom and doesn't
understand it, that's thewayside, man, and then you have
the stony places, man, and thenyou have the thorns, man.
The good ground is describedthis way.
He who hears the word, understands it, indeed, bears

(42:38):
fruit and produces.
Now go to the last one.
Luke also has his perspectiveof the same revelation that
Jesus was giving when he wasbreaking the bread.
Now the parable is this theseed is not only the word of God
, it is the word excuse me notonly the word of the kingdom, it
is the word of God.

(42:58):
In Luke, the seed is the wordof God.
It is sown by the wayside, itis sown by the rock, it is sown
by the thorns and it's sown bythe good ground.
But watch the description ofthose in the good ground.
It is those that have heard theword with a noble and good
heart.
They keep it, keep what Hiswords, the word of God, and they

(43:24):
bear fruit with patience.
And he says now in verse 18,take heed how you hear.
Before it was take heed whatyou hear.
Here it says take heed how youhear.

(43:48):
Taking heed to what you hearand how you hear can make the
word of God of no effect.
How you hear, it is how yourespond to the word.
What you hear can be misleadingif it's not really the word of
God.
If that's what you're puttingyour faith and your trust in,
take heed to what and how youhear, because you can make the

(44:08):
real word of God of no effect inyour life Through your own
traditions, through your ownparadigm, through your own
thoughts.
You can make the word of God ofnone effect, even though it's
the same word that he spoke tothe disciples and you're reading
it yourself.
But you come to completelydifferent conclusions than all
of the apostles, than all of theprophets, and it's pride

(44:31):
because you think you're abovethem.
You think you're above theirrevelation.
He says in Luke more than that.
Jesus says more than thatblessed are those who hear the
word of God and keep it.
It's a repetitive message ofwhat to do with His Word.

(44:53):
But it's not just His words.
In John 1 it says In thebeginning was the what Word, and
the Word was with God and theWord was God.
And if I skip to verse 14, itsays and the Word became flesh.

(45:21):
That's Jesus the word is Jesus.
It says in Revelation 19 that hesaw heaven open.
He saw a white horse and he sawhim who sat on the horse, was

(45:41):
called faithful and true, and inrighteousness he judges and he
makes war Revelation 19, 11.
And his eyes were like a flameof fire and his head were many
crowns and he had a name writtenon him that no one except
himself knew.
He was clothed with a robedipped in blood and his name was
called the Word of God.

(46:03):
Jesus is equals, as I say inmath, is means equals, the word
of God.
He himself is the word of God.
I'm not looking for a bread oflife that I'm going to eat
naturally.
I'm looking for Jesus.
He is the word of God thatgives eternal life to those who

(46:25):
believe, to those who receiveHis words and keep them.
It says in Ephesians 6, 17,.
And take the helmet of salvationand the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God we justsaid.
Word of God equals Jesus.
Well, take the helmet ofsalvation and the sword of the
Spirit, which is Jesus, it makesit more personal.

(46:49):
It makes it more real.
It's not some abstract thought.
In Hebrews 4.12, it says forthe word of God is living and
powerful and sharper than anytwo-edged sword piercing into
the division of soul and spiritand of the joints and marrow and
the discernment of the thoughtsand intents of the heart.
That's abstract, but if I takeit spiritually, for Jesus is
living, jesus is powerful, jesus, he's sharper than any

(47:13):
two-edged sword.
He pierces between your souland your spirit, just like he
can pierce between your bonesand your joints, and he is the
discerner of the thoughts andintents of your heart.
That's a spiritual understanding.
That's a totally differentplane than just some wielding
sword over here and we sometimestake this book and wield it,

(47:34):
and we just wield it like we'regoing to wield the body.
It's Jesus, the word of God isJesus.
We present Jesus.
We are fighting with Jesus whenwe take the sword of the spirit
.
It is Jesus that is defeatingthe enemies before us.
It is not the letter of theSpirit.
It is Jesus that is defeatingthe enemies before us.
It is not the letter that weknow.
It is Jesus that is doing it byHis grace, by His anointing, by

(47:55):
His power.
It is Jesus that is the Word ofGod.
And Jesus is so awesome that hehas to take Himself, having
already blessed Himself, andbreak himself and give himself
to us.
There's no way to receive himand understand him if he doesn't

(48:17):
do that.
And so I read for you now thethird time about being taken,
about being blessed, about beingbroken, about being given, in
Luke 24,.
We're going to read thistogether, starting at verse 13.
It was the day of hisresurrection.
It was the day where the womenhad gone to the tomb and they

(48:40):
did not see the body and theymet with an angel who said to
them go tell the other disciples.
Then I believe it was Peter andJohn that ran back to see for
themselves that he was not inthe tomb.
And there were some disciplestwo of them and they were

(49:01):
traveling that same day to avillage called Emmaus, which was
seven miles from Jerusalem, andthey walked together and they
were talking about all thethings that just happened that
day.
His body wasn't in the grave.
So it was while they conversedand reasoned that Jesus himself
drew near and went with them, but their eyes were restrained,

(49:26):
meaning he closed them off fromrecognizing who he was, and it
says so.
They did not know him and hesaid to them what kind of
conversation is this that youhave with one another as you
walk and are sad?
What's the matter with you guys?
Then one of those that name wasCleopas answered and said to

(49:47):
him are you the only stranger inJerusalem and you have not
known the things which havehappened these days?
Haven't you been around lately?
Don't you know what happenedthe last three days?
He died, they crucified him andhe said to them what are you
talking about?
And so they said to him thethings concerning Jesus of
Nazareth, who was a mightyprophet in deed and in word

(50:08):
before God and all the peopleNow listen to what they're
describing in this Jesus themighty prophet.
He was a whole lot more thanthat, a whole lot more than that
, but that's how they knew him, that's what they understand,
because they still see carnally, even though it's true he was a
prophet.
And how the chief priests andthe rulers delivered him to be

(50:31):
condemned to death and crucifiedhim.
Well, we were hoping, yeah, wewere hoping.
We were hoping that he was goingto redeem Israel.
That's what our hope was in.
And he died.
They killed him and all ourhope was that he was going to
redeem us and save us anddeliver us from Rome.
And besides all this, today isthe third day that these things

(50:56):
have happened and certain womenof our company- who arrived at
the tomb early, astonished uswhen they did not find his body.
And they came saying that theyhad also seen a vision of angels
who said he was alive.
And certain of those who werewith us went to the tomb and
found it, just as the women hadsaid, but him they did not see.
And then he said to them Ofoolish ones and slow of heart

(51:22):
to believe in all that theprophets have spoken, you don't
believe in anything that theprophets have spoken.
You don't believe in anythingthat the prophets have spoken.
You're so slow to get there.
You don't get it yet.
So ought not Christ to havesuffered these things and enter
into his glory?
And it says and beginning withMoses and all of the prophets,

(51:45):
he expounded, he began to breakit up.
He began to break it up.
He began to break it up andserve it to them In little,
bite-sized morsels so they couldsee and understand what All the
scriptures concerning himself.
We say that the word of God isthis Bible.
The word of God is Jesus.
They speak of him, they revealhim, the first verse in.

(52:11):
Revelation says the revelationof Jesus Christ, and that's what
we don't get.
This is about Jesus Christ, andso he's revealing things
concerning himself.
And they drew near to a villagewhere they were going and he
indicated well, I've got to gosome farther.
But no, no, no.
They constrained him.
They said no, no, no, no.
You need to stay with us.

(52:32):
Abide with us.
It's late, it's dark, the dayis already done.
Come on, stay with us.
So he stays.
And he sat at the table withthem in verse 30.
And he took the bread.
And he took the bread and heblessed it and he broke it and

(52:52):
he gave it to them and whathappened their?
eyes were opened and they knewhim.
And he vanished out of sight.
And they said to one anotherdid not our heart burn within us
?
While he talked with us on theroad, while he opened the

(53:16):
scriptures to us, oh my gosh, there was something going on.
There was a fire brewing.
He was expounding to us thisword concerning himself and all
the things that would come topass, and there was a fire Woo.
That's the excitement that theword of God brings.
When he's breaking the word andgiving it to us.

(53:37):
He's revealing himself in a waythat we can handle, and some at
this measure and some at thatmeasure, but the feeling is the
same.
Oh wow, this is great.
Oh wow, this is awesome.
Almighty Jesus, causing us topraise Him, causing us to be in
awe of Him and all of Hismajesty and all of His glory.

(53:58):
And they rose up that very hour.
They didn't stay that night theywent and returned to Jerusalem.
They found the eleven and thosethat were with them gathered
together and they said the Lordis risen.
Indeed, he has appeared to.
Jerusalem.
They found the eleven and thosethat were with them gathered
together and they said the Lordis risen.
Indeed, he has appeared toSimon and they told him about
the things that had happened onthe road and how he was known to

(54:18):
them in the breaking of thebread.
He gave them bread to eat.
It was not natural manner.
The bread is Him, it is Hiswords and it is expounding and
clarifying and revealing thetrue nature and understanding of

(54:42):
His words to you To youRemember the spirit of truth
Whom the world cannot receive.
And I speak to those that havereceived the promise of the
father.
You know him, he dwells withyou and he is.

(55:05):
In you and he is waiting For youTo abide in you and he is
waiting for you to abide in him.
What was the word that thedisciples of Emmaus wrote said
to him Abide with us.
It is then that he took thebread he blessed and broken and
gave it to them, and their eyeswere opened and they knew him.

(55:29):
He was expounding thescriptures.
But even then their eyes werenot open because they didn't
recognize him.
They didn't see him.
But when he broke the bread, when he gave the revelation,
then they knew him.
And God is waiting for peoplesaying Jesus, abide with me,
come to me right now, come to metonight, come to me in my car,

(55:53):
come to me while I'm at homealone.
God, I'm giving you the timenow.
Abide with me, I want to knowyou.
I want to know you, jesus, because Paul said from now on,
we regard no one according tothe flesh, even though we have
known Christ according to theflesh, yet we don't know him any
longer.

(56:13):
How do we know?
him by his spirit.
His words are spirit.
His words are life.
It is his word being that.
He is the Word of God that weneed to know, Paul said to the
Philippians.
Yet indeed, I also count allthings lost for the excellence

(56:36):
of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord.
Jesus, my Lord, whom I sufferedthe loss of all things, and I
count everything that I lost asrubbish that I may gain Christ.
I want Christ, I want to befound in Him, Not having my own
righteousness, which is of thelaw, but that which is through
faith in Christ, therighteousness which is of God.
By faith that I may know Him.

(56:59):
I want to know Him, the Word ofGod, Not what he said.
I want to know Him.
I want to know the power of Hisresurrection, the fellowship of
his sufferings being conformedto his death, so that by any
means, I might attain to theresurrection of the dead.
The Apostle John said now thiswe know, or by this we know that

(57:21):
we know him.
It's about knowing him right.
It's by this we know that weknow him if we keep his
commandments.
Knowing him right, it's by thiswe know that we know him if we
keep his commandments.
Apostle John says that in 1John, 2, 3, and 4, and he goes
on to say he who says that Iknow him and does not keep his
commandments is nothing but aliar.
And we know he continues inJohn, chapter 5, verse 20,.

(57:45):
And we know that the Son of Godhas come and has given us an.
And we know that the Son of Godhas come and has given us an
understanding that we know Himwho is true, and we are in Him
who is true, in His Son, JesusChrist.
This is the true God andeternal life.

(58:06):
So I challenge you today to notrest on whatever present
revelation you have of him.
Press in press on seeking himcontinually, according to his
word.
Because when he reveals, himself.
It's not going to be, contraryto his word.

(58:27):
It's going to be according tohis word.
He is his word.
He's doing nothing butrevealing himself.
Just like you have aconversation with a particular
person who's telling you abouthimself and his life, he's
revealing himself to you throughhis words, and that's all that
Jesus is doing.
He's revealing himself throughhis words.
He's sharing his heart with youby the spirit of God that is

(58:50):
indwelling in you.
Take him at his word.
The word is blessed.
The word is broken.
The word is given so that youwould have more of the
revelation of him.
The more revelation of him thatyou have, the more like him you
are to me Amen.

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
