Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to Outspoken. You're a dose of the
hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
Kate Torbert and I'm joined by my sisters and journalists
Amy and Sophie. On today's show, Martha Califatita shocks fans
with racial slur Ruby Tuesday, Matthew's embarrassing blunder, Mitch Third
crowns himself as King of Barley, and influencers put on notice.

(00:23):
But first, Amy, I'm so happy that you're joining us.
It was a little bit hit and miss. Yes, I've
just been to the skin doctor and had two moles remoefs.
I'm a little bit tender, but I am happy to
be here. And I do think it is a great
reminder for people to go and get their skin checked,
because honestly, it is so easy to do, but you
can have these moles just pop up that are a
bit worrisome, and that's why I've gone and got them removed. Yeah.

(00:46):
I think it's really great and such a good reminder
because mine is coming up in June, and while I'm
not looking forward to it, once you're there, it's so quick,
it's so simple. You're in and you're out and you've
got that amazing peace of mind. Sophie, your morning was
quite busy for a different reason though. Yeah. Well, I
had to take Archie to the groomers. And I feel
like some listeners are invested because about four months ago

(01:07):
I shared Archie's last trip and this was where he
got shaved bald, and he just looked like a completely
different dog. He looked like Dobby the house elf. And
he wasn't actually shaved bald, he just had shorter hair.
It was a shit shave, particularly for an Instagram dog. Yeah,
he didn't look himself. He looked very embarrassed, that's right.
And I have been too scared to visit this groomer again.

(01:29):
So I took a punt and I visited somewhere down
the road and they are incredible. So Archie's brother Winston
goes to this groomer and they were all so lovely there.
I was so nervous when I went to pick him up.
But he looks incredible. And it's pretty funny because the
groomers told me that they checked out Archie's Instagram account
before he came in, and I didn't want to look

(01:49):
like one of those crazy dog ladies, because for my birthday,
Brandon actually got me made an Archie necklace. It's very
similar to the Sex and the City name necklaces, and
I just felt like I can't add that on top
of being an Instagram dog mum. On the topic of Brandon,
was he happy with how Archie looked, because I do

(02:10):
remember a certain audio flying around of him being very upset. Yeah,
he was pretty happy. He said that Archie looks like
he's got sausage legs, but it is overall very thrilled
with the results. I have to share a photo in
our Facebook community now, o Kate, last week you put
Sophie and I to complete shame. It was our mum's
birthday and you made her the most incredible looking cake.

(02:30):
Oh oh, thank you.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Well.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
I was really looking forward to it because I have
been dubbed the step food wife triplet from you guys,
and I felt like I had to create a cake
for Mum that lived up to that standard. And I've
been obsessed with those eighties retro cakes and I really
wanted to recreate them and it was quite pathetic. It
was at the point where I was staying up really
late and just watching Instagram videos of how to make them.

(02:53):
I was pretty happy with how it turned out, but
the thing that tripped me up through the whole process
was trying to find these special glass a cherries. They're
called machino cherries or something. I think I've butchered that pronunciation,
but they're literally the glass a cherries with a stem
on them. I had to go to three different stores
the day of making the cake. It was horrendous. I
finally found them in Dan Murphy's. It was pretty funny

(03:15):
because you were working from home that day and literally
all day I kept getting these updates on Snapchat about, oh,
the first layer of the icing is on. It literally
took you all day to finish this cake. But type
Kate's employer isn't listening to this. Ill still manage. I
still managed to do work in between. That's the perks
of working at home. You know, you put the cake

(03:37):
in the oven and then you do a little bit
of work. Take it out. Cool that there's quite a
process to the cake making. Women multitask exactly. I was
going to put a TikTok up of the process, but
I'm not very good at it. To amy, you might
have to help you out so listeners can see the cake.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
I love her so much. I always have a favorite
dog whenever I have dogs. There's many many dogs in
my love that one for example, but this is my
favorite dog, mar Victoria.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
You're beautiful, launch you.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
I love him so so much.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Martha Califatitas has been dumped by GHD Hare after she
was called out for a racial slur. The usually savvy
influencer shocked followers when she uploaded a video saying the
N word whilst miming to a rap song in her
car on Friday. The controversy interrupted Martha's paid trip to
South Australia, which also divided fans kate. The backlash was

(04:30):
swift what has ensued since well. After receiving a lot
of criticism, Martha quickly deleted the inst story and has
not commented on the matter since. One follower claims she
direct message Martha saying did you just say what I
think you said? And was immediately blocked. Another follower took
it one step further and began contacting brands Martha works

(04:50):
with to share their upset, and GHD was one of
those brands and they took swift action, so they initially
thanked the follower for bringing the matter to their attention,
and then three hours later they followed up with the
following message. They wrote, GHD will not be partnering with
Martha Califatitis in any capacity moving forward, as we do
not condone offensive or hurtful language. Again, thank you so

(05:13):
much for bringing this to our attention. Now, thing's got
a little bit awkward the following day on Monday, when
Martha shared an INSTA story from the night before promoting
a GHD curling wand and I'm assuming this was part
of a pre existing deal, but it was awkward. Nevertheless,
I was really impressed with ghd's immediate action, particularly on
a Sunday, because brands these days know that the influencers

(05:34):
they work with really reflect on them as a brand,
and this is particularly the case when an influencer does
something wrong. How did you guys feel about the dirty
delete and the zero explanation or apology following it. Well,
Martha is usually so savvy when it comes to posting
on social media, so her behavior really did shock me.
And it just blows my mind that people are still

(05:56):
using this word who were not black, because it is
one of the offensive and painful words in the English language,
and it should never be used by anyone who isn't
black under any circumstances. And it is really frustrating in
twenty twenty two that people still don't understand just how
offensive this word is because it has such a loaded history. Well,

(06:17):
it was used to dehumanize black people and keep them
in their place. And every time something like this happens,
there's always one white person that argues that they should
be allowed to sing the words because they're a part
of the song, and they question why the black rapper
can say it but no one else can. And to
answer this question in full, we will put a link
in the show notes to an article from The Conversation

(06:38):
that explains it very well. However, just for a top
level explanation, white people shouldn't use the N word, even
if it is in a rap song, because the word's
origins in slavery haven't been lost. So race expert doctor
Jackie Standard explained that white people are the ones who
created the word, but have now lost power in relation
to it. Therefore, they have lost the power to use

(07:00):
it with impunity and also the power to reclaim it. Now,
I really do wonder if Martha's lack of apology has
anything to do with her paid promotion to South Australia. Well.
The following day after the Races video went live, Martha
flew to Adelaide, as you said so, in what her
fiance Michael Brunelli, deemed as a surprise trip, and it

(07:20):
was quite clear the trip was far from a surprise,
as everything had been booked under Martha's name and the
couple used promotional hashtags throughout their stay. Michael wrote, Okay,
so my grand plan was to surprise Martha with a
trip to Adelaide to relax and experience everything it has
to offer, as we haven't been together before. I set
up clues in the morning and I secretly left to

(07:41):
Adelaide to continue giving her clues as to where I was.
Michael then went on to say Martha had figured out
where they were going on the first clue. The post
finished with hashtags see South Australia and hashtag ad Now
from a South Australian perspective, it was really nice to
see the state showcased on interstate influencers platforms because I
feel like South Australia has unfairly got the label of

(08:03):
being a bit of a shit place to visit, and
it's so far from the truth. So even though it
was a paid promotion, it was nice to see influencers
talking the place up and the trip did look pretty epic.
The couple, of course, stayed at Eos in the city
and they went to a number of wineries. And for
being someone that lives in South Australia, I actually appreciate
it because I'm like, oh, I should check out that place.

(08:24):
I never actually make the effort to go there. So
do you guys think it mattered that the trip was
a stage surprise? Well, I really think that Martha and
Michael are one of the only Australian influencer couples who
actually puts the effort into making their content entertaining and
they are happy to take the piece out of each
other and play up to the cameras, which is really
fun to watch. So I do wonder if it's because

(08:47):
their love story started in front of cameras that they
feel so comfortable to produce content like this, And to
be honest, I would much rather see influencers actually putting
an effort into their content than just going through the motion.
The hashtags did ruin the vibe of the story they
were trying to create. I would much prefer to see
influencers using hashtags they're not disclosing their partnerships and also

(09:09):
just getting creative with something, because it really made it
a much more fun trip to watch and be part of.
I agree with you in some areas, but I still
think it's a little bit cringe to frame this trip
as a massive surprise because people can clearly see through
it and go, well, this is paid promotion. I can
see the hashtag, and I wonder for SA Tourism if
they suggested it or if Michael said, hey, let's do this.

(09:31):
But I think it's clever marketing because obviously Martha has
a predominantly female audience, so a lot of females are
probably watching this with their boyfriends sitting next to them saying,
I wish you would plan me a surprise trip to
South Australia. I understand what Amy's saying in terms of
influencers are meant to try and build our trust and
then give their recommendations. So it seems like a bit

(09:51):
of a fail because it obviously wasn't a surprise. However,
if I was Tourism Essay. I would have been really
happy with the investment used to get their on board
with this campaign, because I think they really did showcase
South Australia at its best. Of course, if Martha hadn't
found herself in the spotlight using the N word, it
would have been a much better campaign. But I do

(10:12):
think the paid partnership with Tourism Essay could have possibly
had something to do with Martha going quiet on the
racial matter, because the timing was really bad and there
isn't a brand out there that would want to have
been aligned with her at that point. And not to
make excuses for her, but I'm just trying to work
out why she didn't apologize, And perhaps she knew if
she apologized, it would put a lot more spotlight on

(10:34):
what happened, So maybe she thought if she just deleted
it and didn't acknowledge it, it would go away and
not get as much airtime as it would if she
had apologized. I saw these shoes back one for such
a long time. They have twelve hundred dollars. They are
so fucking ugly that they look cute. TikToker Ana Paul
is quickly becoming a gen said favorite, the social media

(10:55):
sensation who clocked up three million followers this week, is
no stranger to fare. Her car is covered daily by
letters from fans, and students even made a shrine to
her at their high school. But it's her generosity that
has really captured her followers attention, Sophie. I know she
is quickly becoming one of your favorites. I am so
hooked on her vlogs on TikTok. I absolutely love her

(11:18):
and for those who don't follow her yet, she posts
daily vlogs about her shopping expeditions, the adventurous food she tries,
and also her really lavish holidays. And as I've said
in the past, although she shows herself spending a lot
of money and living a very different lifestyle to the
rest of us, somehow she still comes across as really likable,
modest and relatable. And it's pretty funny because she gets

(11:42):
around in this bright metallic green car with the number
plate Anna, so it's obviously very noticeable. And she is
so popular, Kate, as you mentioned that when she gets
back to her car, kids have literally left notes all
over the windscreen saying how much they love her, how
much they look up to her. I mean when I
saw this post, I thought that they were all parking

(12:03):
tickets for a second, and then I was like, oh,
it's fan mail. Yeah. I couldn't believe it because the
shrine in question, Kate, that you touched on was created
by some high school students and they had all of
these cut out photos of her and basically they were
asking for offerings from the God at this shrine. It's
insane how many kids love her. And I think one

(12:23):
of the reasons why so many people like her is
she just comes across as so generous. She is always
giving her mum and family members really thoughtful presence. And
she said in a recent flog that she didn't grow
up with much money. She said from a young age
she worked at a supermarket and she was so proud
when she managed to save up one thousand dollars, as
it was more than her parents had in their own

(12:45):
savings account. And she said that once she reached that goal,
she took her mom to the shops and brought her
one hundred dollar pair of Birkenstocks that her mum had
wanted for such a long time, and her mum literally
burst into tears at the shop. And it's this generosity
that she's kept going because quite often she takes her
mum to the store and gives her a basket and says,

(13:05):
loaded up with everything you want in this store, and
I will purchase it for you.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
So for you are really loving Anna Paul at the moment,
that was a very glowing explanation. I love her. Let's
hope she doesn't do something problematic next week. See if
you're new Sammy Robinson, Let's not go nuts. Let's not
go nuts. But this is a bit of a backflip
when we were having a go at her for calling
a cat nutsack. Yeh, No, Well, you can change your
opinion on people, can't. Well, this actually ties off that cat. Well,

(13:32):
this actually ties into it quite well, because Kate, it's
actually her brother Addis's cat. It's not actually her cat,
it's Addison after it, she's always got nutsack with it. Well,
I think that's probably because Addis and michaela are always traveling.
But one president that really caught my attention this week
was a recent surprise gift Anna gave her brother Adis.
And as you say, Kate, we did do a little

(13:52):
segment on it last year, but For those who don't know,
Adis owns two hairless cats, and he named the first
one Nutsack, which did cause some controversy. So do you
still hate the name? Do you guys still think it
was wrong to call it nutsack? Or now you're kind
of like, oh, it's kind of cute. I can kind
kind of get it more knowing their sense of humor,
but I prefer it to be called a normal name. Well,
I'm someone that loves normal animal names, like our family

(14:15):
cat is called George and Lulu. We've got Bentley and gg.
I suppose they are a little bit more unusual, but yeah,
I like normal names in saying that my dogs are
called Sonny in shadow at the moment, So, well, you
guys will love this because he did get a second cat,
which he called Fanny, And just to point out, Fanny
is a boy. So I was super confused because it
appears that he has actually renamed Fanny to mister Wormy,

(14:37):
which I think is more appropriate. Not mister Fanny, no
mister Wormy. And whilst he has given his cat's atrocious names,
it's safe to say that he is utterly obsessed with
these cats. They are incredibly spoilt as soon as he
got Fanny or mister Wormy. Now he had a professional
photo shoot for the cat, and he's always spoiling them
with toys and he gives them baths all the time.

(14:57):
Because I didn't know this, but apparently you've got a
take extra care of bold cats, more so than cats
with hair. See, I've got to show Dale all these
bold cats because the only way I'd ever be allowed
to get another animal was if it was bold, because
my cats just shed so much for her. Or you
should get when they're pretty cute. Now, what I thought
was hilarious that Anna was recently in Dubai and she

(15:18):
found this store that painted lifelike photos onto bags, so
as you do. She purchased at US a Louiston shoulder
bag and got a photo of mister Wormy wearing a
Louiston jacket painted on the bag. Now, this bag took
five days to come back, but it was crazy. It
was the most realistic artwork of this cat. It was

(15:39):
bloody hilarious and I mayn't think how much it costs
considering it was so realistic. Anna was on a Louisiton bag.
It made me think I really need to go to
Dubai to get my dog Artie painted on a handbag
for myself, because I would love that.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
I'm sick of hearing well all time. I'm sick of
your voice yelling all the time. I'm card of your voice.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
Like as international borders reopen, Mitch Third has become one
influence that to vicariously live through amy. Where is Mitch now? Will?
Mitch's currently holidaying in Bali, and I'm actually enjoying seeing
his travels because I feel like it's a sign that

(16:19):
the world is healing, nature is returning to how it
should be, because influencers are back in Bali. And on Saturday,
Mitch had a photo of himself on Instagram declaring the
King's back as he posed amongst tourists in Bali, and
I did laugh because he's pulling this typical influence of
power pose and you can just tell all the other
tourists around him and just like, what the fuck is

(16:41):
with this guy? And it's clear that Mitch has been
on a bit of a bender the first few days
in Bali, but he's now hopped on a ferry to
the Islands for a bit of R and R, and
I have to say one thing, that has stood out
about Mitch's travels is his coordinated pink luggage. It'd be
really easy to spot at the airport. You know when
people back in the day used to put a ribbon
around their bag, Like if you saw your pastel pink

(17:04):
suitcase coming out, you'd be like, beauty. I'm just wondering
if he's freaking out a drinking bottle with the same color,
because I actually really like that pink. It's also easy
to steal, and you're putting out feelers because Mitch the
did comment on one of our posts that he was
happy to send us his drink putting an order. It's
a desperate sort of attempt to get one of these bottles. Look,
if I wanted one other drink bottles, I get that

(17:25):
more beige color. Anyway, I'm throwing out you're listening now.
What was really interesting about Mitch's trip to Barley was
he took followers through the new requirements for entering Barley.
So he shared a TikTok and it showed him touching
down in Balley and he was giving advice to followers.
So his advice was, you need to select seats at
the front of the plane to ensure you can exit

(17:47):
the plane as quickly as possible, otherwise you'll be stuck
lining up forever. So you know, when you normally got
off a flight and you've got to line up now
in the airport, it actually looks like a vaccination center
because they've got seats that you have to sit on
all in a row, and you have to wait to
be called forward. It's funny because I literally haven't traveled
for so long that I completely forgot about the absolute

(18:09):
hell of waiting for everyone to get off the plane.
And then when those people stand up and sort of
elbow you out the way, and you're just like, for
fuck's sake, you just hate everybody. You just like what
is wrong with people? But it's funny because as soon
as the planet does land, all you want to do
is get off. It's been particularly upsetting for us because
it's actually three years ago that we were in Balley

(18:30):
and that was our last international flight since COVID, so
I've been getting all of the snapchat memory. It's been
very upsetting. I cannot wait to go back to Balley now.
So for you would hate this because Mitch said it
took him an hour to get out of the airport,
and he said, if you chose a seat at the
back of the plane, it would probably take you two
hours to get through customs because you have to show

(18:52):
your vaccination certificate, and you also have to show that
you've booked in three nights of accommodation at a government
approved hotel that he hadn't actually booked dinn at a
government approved hotel, and the air hostess on his Singapore
Airlines flight wouldn't let him on until he showed her
on his phone that he had booked accommodation. He said,
he just canceled her as soon as he arrived, though,

(19:13):
and just showed a screenshot of the confirmation email. But
you also have to line up to get a PCR test,
which cost twenty five Australian dollars. Then you have to
wait for the results, pay forty six dollars for a visa,
get your fingerprint and face scanned. Then it's finally time
to pick up your bags and go. Now it sounds
like a bit of a hoopler, but I think it's
worth an overseas trip after the years that we have

(19:34):
been banned from traveling. Now. Mitch also went viral on
TikTok late last week after he claimed he'd spend over
thirty one thousand dollars on a meal out in Dubai.
So eagle eyed followers were quick to comment on his TikTok,
pointing out it wasn't Australian or US dollars but thirty
one thousand dirham, which is the uaes currency. So that

(19:55):
equates to over eleven two hundred dollars on dinner, which
is still a disgusting, obscene amount of money. That's a
lot of gyg for me. Well, the reason it was
so expensive was because he went to Nazaret, which is
a steakhouse run by a famous Turkish chef who's better
known as salt Bay. So I'm sure you guys will
have seen that meme with salt Bay in it, and

(20:17):
he's become famous for the way he seasons his meat.
You know, he holds the salt in a certain way. Sorry,
but I'm not paying eleven thousand dollars for someone to
season a steak for me. He must be making a
lot of money off drink bottle. Was it just one
steak that cost eleven thousand dollars or did he shout
the whole table. No, he shouted the whole table, but
there weren't that many people. And he did share a

(20:38):
reel which featured the receipt. And people have gone nuts
over two items on the bill, and one of those
was the cost of steel water and the other was
the cost of a slice of avocado. So do you
guys want to take a guess of how much basically
tap water at this restaurant cost? Well, I'm sorry, but
all tap water should be free. It makes me feel
sick to even think about it, because I was so

(21:00):
outraged because I was charged like fifteen dollars per bottle
of water an Adelaide restaurant, and they kind of sneakily
did it. It was still water and they charged like
it was sparkling wooden. So what what did mitchpay? Will
this water cost? And to put it in perspective, this
is tapwater cost one hundred dirham, which is thirty six
dollars and twenty four cents Australian daylight? Yeah, and a

(21:23):
single slice of avocado cost seventy five durham, which is
twenty seven dollars. What the hell? This was discussed? The
sense if the steak is one thousand dollars each or whatever.
It was. Also to put in perspective, the chef is
worth seventy million dollars, so I think that's how hot
he's making his buddy. Now back to the Barley trip.
I was looking very closely to see if Mitch stayed

(21:44):
in Villa Tarmie, and that is the villa that he
purchased with his former girlfriend Tarlia Scanes, and a couple
of episodes ago, we were talking about how there seems
to be some tension between the pair. There was some
discussion about seeing lawyers on Tarlier Scanes's which we believe
she might have been referring to this situation with Villa Tami,
but we're not certain. But Mitch wasn't there. Yeah, it

(22:08):
was interesting because I was half expecting him to pop
up there. I did see that he's staying at some
big fuck off place on the islands, and he's got
this massive pool to himself, so I don't think he's
slumming it despite not being a Milazer. I don't know
if that would just be for himself. He did seem
to pick up a few friends on the way. Oh,
I'm sure you'll find a friend there. I feel bad

(22:28):
for your parents. I feel bad for your face. Okay,
well call me when your boobs come in. You call
me when yours come in. What do you have four boyfriends? Exactly? Yeah? Okay,
have fun having a baby at your prom.

Speaker 3 (22:40):
You look like an old map.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
You know what, You're not as popular as you think
you are. I'm very popular. I'm sure you are very popular. Well,
you're an old, single loser who's never gonna have any friends.
You're a little cunt. ASIK has put influences on notice,
warning they could face jail time and finds it up
to one billion dollars if they don't abide by new rules.

(23:03):
Before we get into the rules, Amy, can you give
us some background into ACIK and also the world of influencers. Yeah. Well,
ACIK is the regulator of the financial services industry in
Australia and it is finally cracking down on influencers. We
covered this topic in depth last year, but basically, a
finfluencer is a finance influencer. Many of these influencers are

(23:24):
unqualified and unlicensed. In the past year, there has been
a rise of influencers sprooking financial services products. So previously
they weren't bound by the same guidelines as financial advisors,
so they could push the boundaries when promoting financial products.
And what's really worrying is finfluencers have proven to be
more appealing to brands because brands can use persuasive language

(23:47):
and have calls to action that license financial advisors ethically
and legally cannot include. And there has been a big
divide between unqualified and qualified finance influencers. It can be
really confused for consumers to know who is qualified and
who is unqualified and who they should be taking advice from.
I also think it's worrying because some consumers are unknowingly

(24:10):
receiving unlicensed advice. So can you tell us more about
these new rules that are coming into effect. So ACIK
has announced a comprehensive outline of what they do and
do not approve of in the influencers space. So under
the new law, financial advice is defined as any recommendation
to purchase financial products such as securities in a listed

(24:30):
company or units in a managed fund. So only individuals
who are registered with ASEK and hold a financial services
license or are authorized by a licenseee can provide advice.
So basically influencers who are unlicensed will be breaking the
law if they make misleading statements online or give unlicensed advice.

(24:51):
So the new rules are really giving influencers the push
to go out and get licensed and more qualifications. So
influencers are now all also banned from promoting investment funds
and stocks online. Now, up until this point, there hasn't
been a lot of clarity around what is and isn't allowed.
So ACIK has provided an information sheet for influencers and

(25:13):
it talks about how financial service laws apply directly to them,
and it also reminds them that it is their responsibility
to ensure that the content they post complies with the
new laws, and for the first time, it actually gave
some real world examples. So not only are product recommendations
now prohibited from unlicensed individuals, but even giving an opinion

(25:34):
about the guaranteed positive return of a specific investment or
asset class could be considered advice or misleading and deceptive conduct. Now,
what is big news is that influencers can no longer
use affiliate marketing links. Now, okay, can you tell us
why this is so huge? Or quite often influencers will
promote affiliate links on their Instagram or TikTok for a

(25:56):
range of different finance brands. And the way these links
work is that the influencer generally has paid a commission
for every single person who uses this affiliate link, so
they are financially motivated to get as many people to
sign up and use this link as they can. So
this clarification in the rule could drastically affect influencers bottom
lines as affiliate links have become a very lucrative line

(26:19):
of business for many influencers, and it's understood the ASEK
are closely watching some influencers who are believed to be
earning five or six figure salaries from promoting a range
of different deals, including licensed financial firms, share markets, and
foreign exchange brokers. It's pretty interesting because ACIK have come
out and admitted that monitoring can be very tricky because

(26:40):
financial advice may take place in a private message like
a DM, or it may have a limited shelf life
like an Instagram story which expires after twenty four hours,
so the regulator is relying on tip offs from the public.
I did really enjoy listing to She's on the Money
because financial advisor Victoria Devine touched on the new rules,
and she said that the rules are a really good

(27:01):
step in the right direction. She said, there needs to
be regulation in this space, and we need to be
talking about it more because at the end of the day,
they're giving you financial advice, and that could make or
break your future. She said, it's not like influencers promoting
skincare and you're like, I don't like the smell. It's
you and your financial future, and you're investing in your future,
and there's such significant ramifications for getting it wrong. Well,

(27:23):
I agree with Victoria because I think these rules are
great because it was very murky before and now it's
sort of brought all of the influencers in line. I
will be really interested to see if some quite well
known influencers do cop a large fine, because I wonder
if they will be wanting to make examples of high
profile people who are doing the wrong thing, kind of

(27:45):
as a scared tactic to say, you know, we are
actually going to be handing down severe consequences for this behavior.
I wonder what the flow on effect is for industries
like bitcoin, because I know a lot of influencers have
been promoting bitcoin. I feel like it falls under a
very similar category.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
Come over all. Yes, I am a man who has
recently bought a house in the local area, and I'm
having a housewarming party to which I'll be inviting a
lot of the local adults two, hence the crisps. I'll
also probably need some alcohol as well as well as

(28:23):
the crisps, etc.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
Ruby Tuesday Matthews has been left red faced after she
was caught out sending herself questions during an Instagram Q
and a with her followers, Amy can you tell us more? Yeah? Okay.
It was celeb Spelcheck who spotted Ruby Tuesday Matthew's gaff.
So the popular Instagram account shared a screenshot of Ruby's
Insta story which clearly showed she had sent herself a

(28:45):
number of questions. One of the questions read, what is
your preferred brand of electronics that you have purchased for
the new pad? How do you decide? So Ruby responded
to her own question in great detail, and it cracked
me up because she wrote, funny you asked this. So
she managed to plug a number of brands, including sam
Sung and Fisher and Pie Call. So celemb' spelcheck shared

(29:06):
this screenshot and they captioned it we all knew influences
did this, and this led to a lot of debate
online about whether Ruby Tuesday Matthews had received payments or
goods for this endorsement. Now Ruby has responded on Instagram
and she has denied being paid to endorse any particular
brand or product Through her Q and A, she wrote, FYI,

(29:26):
the brands I tagged in my Q and A were
already items I purchased for full price. She then posted
what she claimed was an f POS receipt for the purchases.
Made it the good guys in tweed Heads. She also
confirmed that she'd written the questions herself, but said she
did so because sometimes the questions are full of spelling
errors and she likes to try and summarize them. That's

(29:47):
so funny, because why would you put the effort in
to do that if there wasn't some payback for you, Like,
it's not like you're desperate to talk about your fridge.
If you're not getting some sort of payback for it.
Wouldn't the person who also wrote in those questions and
legitimately come forward and say, hey, it was actually me
who put them out there. The other thing that looks
fishy is the other question Ruby sent herself was asking

(30:08):
her about the type of furniture she's going to have
in a new house as well. Oh, they're all clearly
questions about the sort of brands she works with. I'm sorry,
but who was sending in those sort of questions? And
if these were legitimate questions, why didn't she screenshot the
post that she'd apparently summarized. See. I think it's more
so she was genuine when she said I haven't been
paid to promote these products, but I think it's to

(30:28):
set up the paid promotion for later, because she said
in her post about the fridge, Oh, I'll let you
know how it goes. I think everyone knows what's going
on here, and Ruby's clearly just trying to make some
excuses for the mix up. What I don't get is
how you could be so careless to share a screenshot
with your own name written down in your questions, Like
it just blows my mind. I feel like she's really

(30:51):
contradicted herself though, because she said that she takes the
time to rewrite followers questions, but then she has been
so careless to slap up a screenshot of the questions
that she's sent in well, I think that's all we've
got time for today. Thanks so much for listening to
