Speaker 1 (00:03):
Coming up on today's show, Sarah's Day says goodbye to
her cooking app. Olivia Rodgers is set to tell us
more Taylor Swift's lyric change up, and Kayla at Zenas
is the reluctant hen Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's
your dose of the hottest influencer and pop culture news.
I'm Kate Torbert and it's feeling quite lonely in here.

(00:24):
It's just you and me, Amy. It is poor Sophie.
She's been struck down by what she thinks is COVID.
She's not testing positive, so it could be some random
thing that's going around. Everyone seems to be sick at
the moment. I know, it's terrible. She did miss out
on a really good weekend though, because our business, Hula Media,
we do the pr for the Handpicked Festival in South
Australia and it was finally back after COVID after storms

(00:47):
and I was down there filming all day. I'm exhausted.
You forget what a big day some of these music
festivals are. You must be shattered because you got home
really late and then you stayed up editing to like
three am. Yeah, Well it was all worth it. Because
Melcy from The Spice Scales was DJing, which I think
was the most random thing I've ever seen, but it
was so cool. Over the weekend, I was actually watching

(01:07):
the Robbie Williams doco Have you seen that? On Netflix?
I really want to? It is pretty good. I think
he would be disappointed that it came out just after
the Beckham one because it's not up to that standard.
But I just thought of it then because Jerry Halliwell
was in it and I didn't realize that they were
an item for a couple of months. So she makes
a feature in the doco. I was tossing up weather

(01:29):
it was time to put on a Christmas movie, but
I don't have my tree up, so I don't feel
it's appropriate. However, I am in the Christmas spirit because
Reese actually put lights on our house last night. Oh
my gosh. Because Reese is not a grinch, but it's
more you have to inject the Christmas spirit into your house. Yeah.
I was shocked. He actually suggested it and he got
up on the roof. It's quite funny. I put it

(01:49):
on my Instagram story. He looked like Clark Gruswold from
Lampoon's Christmas vacation. That looks so dangerous. So for those
who haven't seen it, he's basically lying on the top
of the roof and he's hanging his hand down to
put the lights on the house. Wouldn't you've used a ladder.
It's actually sparked him to be more competitive and actually
go and buy more lights. And he's already ordering. He's like,

(02:09):
I want some candy canes that come up this path,
and I want a projector onto the garage. Well I
did tell Dale, I said, be prepared. Kate and Reese
have already started putting up lights. We need to get
our act together. If you've ever said the sentence I
cannot do a chin up, I'm going to get you there.
That's it. Over the weekend, Kayla had seen us was
the reluctant hen, so despite telling her bridal party that

(02:32):
she didn't want to celebrate her hens, she ended up
caving and having an intimate hen celebration in Adelaide. So
she wrote over the weekend, I'm so weird like that.
I'd happily do nothing and not complain once haha, but
I did it. I found this really refreshing for someone
like Kayla to actually come out and say that she
didn't want to celebrate her HENS. I get it after

(02:52):
having my HENS. I mean, I was obviously keen to
have a celebration, but when it's all suddenly about you,
it feels all a bit weird. I wonder if that's
that's what it was. Well, I suppose with us being triplets.
I actually said that at my hands that I don't
think I've ever had a party that's all been about me,
so I found it rather daunting. I do think some
of her reluctance probably had to do with the fact
that she also doesn't drink alcohol, so in her post,

(03:14):
she mentioned that it's hard for her to get pumped
up for an event like her HENS because she doesn't drink,
And I think HENS parties are so synonymous now with
drinking and going out that it is hard if you're
someone that doesn't do that to work out what to do.
I do feel like there has been a bit of
a shift, though, even for Bucks parties, because it used
to be a whole bunch of guys just going out
and getting drunk and just up to no good, But

(03:36):
now it seems to be more that the guys will
maybe go out to a winery, or they'll go on
the Dodgem cars or go play golf or something, I
don't know, something a bit more wholesome to Mio Kardi, yeah,
go guarding. Yeah. I definitely think there is a push
for more wholesome bucks and hens parties, and it's probably
because the age people are getting married is a lot
older normally. You know, you've been in a relationship for

(03:59):
you know, five for six years, you might even have
kids like Kayla does. So what did she actually end
up doing. Well, she had a very sophisticated lunch at
a restaurant called Track at two Rat Gardens and they
actually ended up meeting up with Jay, Kayla's fiance, and
a group of his friends in Brighton. So they had
this beautiful balcony on the esplanade and Leah, it's seen

(04:19):
as Kayla's sister put on an epic platter. I was
just so jealous of it. I'm like, I would love
to get into that. So was that Jay's bucks then
as well? Did they just meet up after their respective
I don't think it was his bucks. There wasn't a
mention of it, but potentially it could have been. It
just reminds me of Sof and Brandon, because Brandon was
saying how he wants to meet up with Sofa after

(04:41):
his Bucks party. It does sound very Brandon. I mean,
I think he would be happy to have a joint party. Anyway.
I did love that Kayla opted for pants for her
Hen's party. So, for those who haven't seen the photo,
she had these beautiful white linen pants on and this
really cool silver sparkly crop top. I actually immediately wanted
to go buy it, but I don't have Kayla's abs. Yeah,

(05:01):
she looked really cool and for some reason, I mean,
maybe this is why she's so huge on Instagram. I
found it so relatable in that instance, and I felt like,
oh wow, I could actually be friends with you because
you seem like really down to earth. Yeah, she does
come across as really relatable even though she is a
multi millionaire. I really enjoy seeing her relationship dynamic with

(05:22):
her sister Leah online as well. So Leah was in
the bridal party and she was up at six am
getting a walk in before she went to the shops
at seven am to get her platter food ready. Maybe
it's just because they're Adelaide girls. I've got a spot
for them. Yeah. Well, Leah actually ended up wearing this
matching set, and she said it was actually to get
a response out of Kayla. So she wrote, let's see

(05:43):
what Kayla responds to this with laughing face emojis. And
for those again who haven't seen the photos, it was
this dark green matching pattern set with astrological illustrations on it,
so it was very loud, it was very out there.
It's quite different to what Kayla was wearing. I'm guessing
that Kayla wouldn't have liked it that the vibe. So
Leah ended up sharing a photo of Kayla looking down
at her with her sunglasses tilted and wrote, if I'm honest, y'all,

(06:06):
I think she secretly liked it with laughing faces. Kayla
then added that she did not approve of the outfit.
I'm just impressed that Kayla got dressed up for her hens.
Though she could have done a meet and just done
a tennis theme so she could wear active. Yeah. True,
she could have taken a hack from you. I did
find it interesting because Kayla confirmed that she's getting married
in a month's time, so I think a lot of

(06:27):
people were unsure when that was actually happening. That seems
very on brand for Kayla, though, because she does like
to keep things quiet until they're actually about to happen.
I wonder could she possibly do what her sister did
and have an at home wedding. Maybe. Well, the dates
are lining up to be very similar to Leah. So
Leah got married last year on the eighteenth of December,

(06:47):
and if the wedding is in a month's time, that's
around the eleventh of December. My name is Olivia Molly Rodgers,
and welcome to Tell Me More. Olivia Rodgers has announced
she's launching a new podcast, tell Me More. She revealed
the news by sharing a photo of her holding a
newspaper in front of her face. Now, in this newspaper,
there are a few headlines and they give away a

(07:09):
few clues. Well, I mean you say clues, but it
was kind of like straight out obvious what they were.
So one of the headlines said new podcasts set to
launch this month tell us More, while another confirmed the
date of the podcast launching, which is the twenty first
of November twenty twenty three. So it's not like she
was dropping Easter egg clues. Like Taylor Swift, like you

(07:30):
didn't really have to put them together. Yeah, but there
were other headlines which said candid conversations about grief and
another one that said from Surviving to Thriving, So it
kind of tells you a bit more of what kind
of conversations she's going to be having on this podcast. Yeah.
There was also a picture of a figure which appears
to be Olivia holding an old school pink telephone with
a caption with exclusive guests. The whole phone thing made

(07:54):
me think that she'll be giving advice on topics that
people send in, and then obviously she'll be interviewing a
bunch of influencers or her friends. And my little response was,
and it sounds mean, but that's all we need, Just
another podcast with an influencer interviewing her famous friends. Yeah.
I mean, I'll probably tune into it. It will be
interesting to see where this actually sits in the podcast charts,

(08:17):
whether people are over that kind of content, because, as
you said, there are a lot of influencer podcasts out
at the moment and they all seem to follow that
similar theme. And we've also heard Olivia on a lot
of podcasts telling her story. I do wonder will she
be touching on her breakup though, because that's going to
get a lot of listeners in well, I feel like
this is why she potentially hasn't said anything about it,

(08:39):
because the timing to me seems a little bit strange. So,
as I mentioned, the podcast launches on the twenty first
of November, However, she's done the announcement nine days earlier.
So normally, in terms of a marketing strategy, you'd want
to announce something and have an immediate call to action,
which would be to listen to the podcast, even if
it's just a little teaser of it. Yeah, So I

(09:00):
feel like maybe she's been pushed to announce this based
on all of the rumors that came out last weekend
about her relationship ending with Morgan Waterhouse. Maybe she's kind
of saying to her audience, look, I will talk about
it on the twenty first. I think maybe it's part
of more of a marketing strategy where they put out
a piece of content that's obviously going to get a
lot of clicks and send on an engagement, and then

(09:22):
next week they'll put out more of a teaser video
which actually makes people want to click on it. For example,
maybe she'll be interviewing a friend, or there'll be a
teaser piece where she teases about the relationship. So maybe
though that doesn't immediately like work. You know, you want
to get as many eyeballs and excitement as possible and
then have a call to action. Like the staggered approach,

(09:43):
the timing seems a little bit off. I wonder if
this is part of a Shameless media production. I don't
know whether they'll come out and say if they're part
of Olivia's podcast, but considering the girls are quite good friends,
it just when I saw the launch, I thought, oh,
this almost has a bit of a shameless vibe. I
don't know, because Michelle and Zara, who hosts Shameless, they

(10:04):
did like Olivia's post, but they didn't comment on it,
and the Blue Tick Army were out in full force
to support this podcast. So Nadia Bartel, Tully Smyth, Laura Henshaw,
Olivia White, Sarah Davidson, La Rinka, and Teagan Martin all
commented on the podcast, saying how excited they were. I
always wondering if this was a bit of a clue
of some of the women who will he interviews from.

(10:26):
I mean They're kind of the same people who do
the podcast rounds, aren't they. Besides Nadia Bartell. I'd love
to hear an interview with Nadia by Tell, especially about
all the white powder scandal. Yeah, if she wants to
come on our podcast, we'd be happy to have her.
It's interesting though, because back in August, Olivia was announced
as the host of the TBH skincare podcast called skin Stories,

(10:46):
and she is an ambassador for that brand. And the
podcast has stopped now, but it did have five episodes
that run across August and September, so maybe that was
a little bit of a test for her to see
if she could do her own podcast. Well, don't forget
Morgan also has hit his own podcast, which I still
have not listened to. Okay, you told everyone you're going
to listen to it. You're gonna take one for the team.
Maybe on the way home. Yeah, I'm interested to see

(11:09):
if this is a podcast though that will run every
week consecutively, or if this is just sort of a
podcast series. I think it will just be a series
to see how it all goes. I've had a guy
be like, you're not gonna right about this, are you.
I'm like, yeah, I am over the weekend at Taylor
Swift sent Swifties into a spin at her Ears concert

(11:31):
in Argentina. Not only was Travis Kelsey in attendance, but
she switched up the lyrics in her song Karma to
say this. Now, for those of you who aren't Swifties,
the lyric used to be Karma is the guy on
the screen, and that was in reference to her former

(11:53):
boyfriend Joe Olwen, who is an actor. Travis, of course
plays for the Chiefs. That is lyrical genius. Well, it's
such a burn to Joe, isn't it. Can you imagine
him sitting at home seeing all these tiktoks pop up?
Because of course there was a TikTok of Travis's reaction
and he was standing with Taylor's dad. They looked so

(12:14):
cute together. I wish the person who was filming, though,
could have held onto the camera bit. I was thinking
that too, Yeah, because as she said the lyrics, she
starts like shaking the camera. But you can see Travis
has a huge smile on his face. He knew he
was being watched because he was kind of performative about it,
because he put his hands to his face in like
a shocked reaction, and Daddy Swift is like patting him
on the bag. He loved it. You can tell that

(12:36):
mister Swift is approving this relationship, but he is not
a Chiefs fan. Mister Swift, so, but I don't think
you care as long as the guy is making your
daughter happy. Well, it seemed to be quite a shock
to Taylor's backup dancers as well, because they all pulled
these shocked face. Do you think that she was the
only one who knew that this was going to happen.
I'd like to think she was. I mean, the fact

(12:57):
that Travis flew over to Argentina, it does seem like
it's something cute that she thought up and thought, fuck it.
I'm just gonna say it. It was great. There was
a lot of PDA going on after the concert, so
after the song, Travis blew a kissed to Taylor. Then
after the concert, fans caught on camera Taylor running backstage
to kiss Travis. It was like a movie. I felt

(13:17):
you could have slowed this down. I mean a lot
of people did on TikTok and put a beautiful song
over it. I saw a few people were saying in
the comments, Oh, this is a bit gross because this
is their private moment and you could tell that they
had gone to sort of the backstage bit, but obviously
fans could still see them. Then again, there was someone
snapping photos the whole time. I'm sorry they knew that
they could be seen. If not, they would have waited

(13:39):
in the tent. Because the PDA kind of continued into
the tent. You feel like there was some intense makeout
session going in in that tent. Well, I hope Daddy
Swift had gone off if there was a makeout session.
But they're really just giving people what they want. Though,
as someone who has worked in sports media at a
club before, I was shocked that Travis was allowed to
travel mid season for his personal lives. So it ended

(14:01):
up being a very quick trip for him because he
had to be back by Sunday for practice on Monday.
Maybe it's a bit of a Posh and beck situation.
Remember when in the doco Beckham was just leaving without
even really asking. And I feel like, when you're Travis Kelcey,
you can probably get away with it. But what he
couldn't get away with is not being seen by the coach.
Everyone has seen him over there. I would love to

(14:21):
see what's going on in the chief's locker room because
surely he's copying it for this. Well, I know in
footy clubs in Australia there's often this fine system, so
he had that in basketball. Yeah, So basically, if you're
in the newspaper and you're a fruity player, you're gonna
have to either pay a fine which goes to the
end of season trip, or you have to bring in
like bakery food. Travis o's a lot that end of

(14:41):
season trip is going to be for that team. It's
pretty funny now because sports journals are just asking Travis
about Taylor Swift in press conferences. So recently he was
asked if he's in love with Taylor and he responded,
I'm going to keep my personal relationship personal. He did
have a very cheeky grin on his face, though he
sort of said a weird precints. Because he has been

(15:01):
so public about it, he can't really complain about the
sports media asking him those kind of questions. Well, he's
not complaining. I think he's not well within his riots
to say, Look, I'm gonna keep it personal. If we've
said I love you, I mean asked for Taylor to
announce in her music. Well, Travis's dad. He's also been
talking to the media. He told Entertainment tonight. I think
they're a wonderful couple. They're two wonderful people, and they

(15:23):
are enjoying each other's company and supporting each other. I
wonder if there's something that we can do, whether it's
a vote or something to get Karma re recorded with
this line in it, because it's so much better. So
let's just say Taylor's version two point zero.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
I think that doesn't make sense to a lot of people,
even within my team, even within the financial team. Is
the app is successful?

Speaker 1 (15:45):
Sarah's Day has announced she's pulling the pin on a
healthy cooking app, Sonny the Fitness Influences. Initial cryptic post
caused chaos in the comments section, with many fans thinking
she was bidding farewell to YouTube. I mean, that's kind
of the reaction she wanted. Oh, it was total clickbait.
I mean, she ended up making some fans cry because

(16:06):
they were thinking that she was leaving the platform all together.
I was pretty shocked when I saw it, because she
has been dropping clues that YouTube isn't for her She
has spoken a lot about how she wants to step
back from what she's doing and focus on being a mum.
The confusing thing is do you really want a whole
lot of attention on this announcement, because, if anything, I

(16:28):
think it's a bad look the fact that Sonny's closed down. Yeah,
it was weird that she wanted to drive so much
engagement to what essentially is a business failure. I mean,
I know she has recently launched her cookbook and it's
been extremely successful. She topped the charts on book Topia.
She's self published, she would be earning an absolute mint

(16:50):
from it, so it seems weird to then want a
lot of attention about shutting down the app. But the
whole cookbook was really confusing though, because if you've got
a healthy cooking app, why would you then release a cookbook.
I think the cookbook spelt the end of the app,
and they've been kind of waiting for the initial publicity
about the book to end so then they can make

(17:11):
this announcement. It doesn't really seem that well thought out though,
because if anything, I think that she should have announced
the app closing and then the cookbook. That would have
made more sense. But I think because the cookbook has
taken so long for Sarah to produce, I think it's
been over three years that all of the timelines have

(17:32):
been messed up because she actually touched on this YouTube video,
Oh so when are we actually shutting Sonny down? And
she couldn't answer the question. She said that was something
that she had to talk to her team about. Now,
as a subscriber to that app, I would be pretty
pissed off with this response because a lot of people
have either signed up for three months, six months, or

(17:53):
a year. Are they getting a refund? Yeah? Well, I
don't understand why you go live with this video saying oh,
we're closing it, but they're not having any clarification around
when it's closing. What is going to happen to the members?
I mean, isn't that the most important thing? If I'd
signed up for a year, I'd be wanting my money back. Yeah,
exactly right. Also, what about Sarah's staff, because she would
have brought on a lot of people to handle the

(18:15):
running of this app. Does this mean there's going to
be staff job losses or will they just be pushed
into other avenues of Sarah's business? Yeah? Well, that was unclear.
What we do know about the app Sonny is that
it launched in January twenty twenty one and it's been
running for almost three years. So she first started working
on the app in twenty eighteen when she was pregnant

(18:37):
with Fox, which really blows my mind because that kid's
now five. So the original plan firstly was to do
a cookbook, but if he cast in my back, it
was all about apps back then and subscription and that
was obviously a great way to have money coming in constantly,
so she jumped on that platform. However, it became clear

(18:57):
that she found it really difficult to keep up with
having three recipes every week, particularly once she had a child,
because if you think about it, when she was pregnant,
she was still creating three vlogs a week. She was
a content creating machine. Yeah, she really was now. Sarah
opened up in this YouTube video about how she felt
about this big decision to close down Sonny. Let's throw

(19:19):
to the grab.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
It was like I could feel a physical weight come
off my chest. I started crying, telling Kirk, I've been
wanting the clarity, I guess to make this decision for
a really long time now, and I could feel my
stress levels oozing into the family dynamic, and that is
the last thing I want for my kids and my family.
Praying that this decision would be clear to me, I
was just praying for clarity, and honestly, the past few

(19:44):
weeks it has been crystal clear everything in my life.
Right now, I'm sprinting and I'm exhausted. I can't sprint anymore.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
If this was a regular business and not an influencer
led business, then I don't think you'd ever hear a
business owner saying this. However, it does really suit Sarah's
narrative and branding because she really is trying to get
into that mummy vlogging space. She's talking about how her
main focus is being a mum and talking about how

(20:12):
this was a decision for her family is really pushing
away any notion that this actually failed. It is very
clever for her to frame it that way, because it's
hard to criticize a mother's decision to want to spend
more time with her children. Yeah, she spoke a lot
about honoring her season, and I've noticed that she uses
the word season a lot. If such an influencer term,

(20:33):
I'd never just bring it up in conversation with you,
I'm just honoring my season. Yeah, and she actually described
the app as feeling like a monster that couldn't be
stopped and she struggled coming up with three new recipes
a week. I did have a laugh when I read that,
because there has been a lot of criticism about the
recipes so some weeks that it will be something really
simple like avocado on toast. In hindsight, it was pretty

(20:56):
surprising that she committed to three recipes a week because
you think about similar fitness and food apps like the
Kick app, and they drop a bunch of new recipes
I think every month for every couple of months, with
that kind of pressure that it is a weekly upload
is quite baffling. Well, I wonder if this will now
prompt her to bring out a fitness app that maybe

(21:17):
is a bit better thought through in terms of what
they're actually providing the consumer. With the fitness app makes
more sense, But I don't think she will because she
said that she wants to work very much project based
so that she doesn't have to always have something running
in the background that she's doing. Let's be real, she
obviously makes a shit ton of money by releasing her
ebooks and then obviously this cooking book, and it must

(21:39):
be so much more beneficial for her to do it
as a one off project. If literally she could be like, Oh,
I want a new house, so I'm just going to
release an ebook and that's how much money she'd make. Yeah,
or a second cookbook that would probably sell out straight away.
You think about how much time and resources and money
you'd have to put into an app compared to printing
a cookbook yourself. I'd also love to know how many

(22:02):
subscribers were left on Sonny. It could have been a
case of it just wasn't worth continuing on. Well, Sarah
claims that the app was still highly successful. So she said,
the hard part or the thing that doesn't make sense
to a lot of people within my team, like within
the financial team, is the app is successful. You guys
love it and my team love it, and it's a

(22:22):
great platform. It's a great app. With that in mind,
why was it not sold? Yeah, We've seen so many
fitness influencers who have sold their apps. They've remained the
face of it, and they've had a whole team who've
been able to come up with the content. Yeah, I
think Sam would think Kayla had seen us, Like, literally,
if the app was so successful, surely someone would have

(22:44):
come in and bought it. You're not just going to
make a terrible financial decision and go, oh no, it's
so successful, we're just going to get rid of it.
I would love to know if anyone listening is a
subscriber of Sonny, can you keep us posted on how
it all goes, Like do you get a refund? What's
the communication been? Like we did pay Sophie out because
she did sign up with it initially launched, and she

(23:05):
was very underwhelmed by it. Yeah, well it's hard to
do gluten free, dairy fee, sugar free recipes, isn't it.
Now before we go, you may already have heard that
we are shaking things up this summer, so we are
releasing a new series called Unspoken. Okay, great name you
came up with that I did. I was pretty toffed
with myself. So we are going to be going behind

(23:27):
the scenes of the unspoken stories from the nineties and
early naughties that you think you know but probably don't
know all the details about. The first episode is dropping
on Thursday, and it is about Victoria Beckham. The spy scales,
that cheating scandal. I'm so excited for it. I am
very excited too. And for our Outspoken Plus subscribers, subs

(23:48):
episodes will now be dropping on a Friday, and those
episodes will be focused on pop culture and influencer news.
