(00:00):
Glenn Mason said a long time agoat the University of Minnesota, you need
a pair and a spare? Yes, thank you, PJ. Welcome to
another edition of The Pair and aSpare Podcast. Why is it the Pair
and a Spare this week? Unfortunatelythere's no d around Minnesota. Been waiting
all week to say that. Probablya little cheap, but let's just get
to it. Wow, the pairand a spare, that's probably cheap.
(00:23):
But it's too good of a lineand it got sent to me like five
times, so I'm going with it. I'm justin guard from the fan.
We've got Chipskoggins from The Star Tribune, Ryan Burns, Gopher Illustrated dot Com.
Good to see you guys, everybodyor we're back in studio. First
things first, do I look okay? Let's look a quick wellness check on
me. Everything good? You lookgreat. I've worked out ten times in
November. You guys keeping track,I'm gonna tell you November from October twenty
(00:46):
sixth, we're like twelve times.Wow, we're getting lean, We're getting
ready to go. I don't thinki've worked out one so than walking up
gully hillsides in the dark trying tofind a tree stand. Walking straight up
a gully is very sweaty. Whatis a gully? Like a ravine?
Maybe ravine? You know that ravinehas water? Yeah, No, a
(01:06):
ravine doesn't have water. What's what'sa ravine? I don't know. Like
a steep hillside, that's not aravine. Yeah, like a ravine.
How do you spell ravine? I'mthe last person to ask on spelling things.
Yeah, that's a good point.A ravine. There's water in all
these ravines. What is a gorgein a ravine? All right? I
think of a ravine in A gorgeis very different things. Gorge is bigger
(01:29):
than a ravine. A gorge isgigantic. Ravine is just like a gully
to me? What is a ravine? In the Bible, Elijah was in
the ravine because the word of theLord led him anyway. The dictionary divine's
ravine is a deep, narrow gorgewith steep sides. The spirit led Elijah
into the wilderness where his devotion toGod would be hammered into the deepest kind
(01:49):
of dependence. I don't know ifthat really answered. A gulch is a
small ravine, so well, youget fifteen minutes into a walk up a
ravine, and you're starting to seethe Lord. A lot of these ravine
pictures have water, so that's whyI would assume that they have water.
Okay, well you're just you're justwalking up these long steep mine. I
(02:10):
mean to an extent, but it'slike I think, if I guess reverse
bell curve, if that's the waywe're going to do this, Like you
have a bottom, which is usuallya dry creek bed, and then you
got to walk up a steep.I mean, I don't know, this
is how this all started. Heacted like I was an idiot. A
crick which, by the way,it's creek creek. No, here in
America, it is a crick bed. How do you spell crick? Not
(02:35):
doing this, We're not doing this. Yeah, there's no mini haha,
crick. There's no mini. Fivewords my wife and I disagree on only
five. Okay, we've already gone. We've already gone through elementary on this
podcast. Creek is also one ofthem. I grew up and it was
called a crick bed to me,and that's the way we're gonna enunciate crick.
(02:55):
By the way, if people arewondering. You all know it's spelled
r ee k correct, mini haha, creek. That's the only creek I
know. Getting them set goes threedin nine mile crik. Not a crick,
it's a creek. But also asI walk up my dry creek bed
to try and then take the mostdirect route to the tree stand which no,
(03:16):
by the way, haven't killed onebecause all my big bucks have now
disappeared into heaven knows where. AndI'm not bitter at all. Maybe you're
looking in the wrong gully. You'reonly as good as your spot and through
which water often runs after rains.I was right, Yes, I said
water three verse seventeen. Right there. He looked at me like I was
(03:36):
an idiot. I was correct.Okay, So you haven't worked out as
the moral of the story, Well, the only time I have is trying
to walk that up and my goodness, yeah, I have not worked out.
Yeah, moral of the story.Creek bed, gully, ravine,
creek, creek it's pronounced crickred, crookbad. You've never heard creek. I
have. It drives. It's likenails on a chalk part of me.
If you can't tell, I don'tunderstand how you even get crick. Don't
(03:58):
like you look at a map,you look anywhere, how it's spelled.
There's no I've never seen anyone right, Crick. It's always Creek s K.
Yeah, it's ridiculous. We've alreadyderailed our originals. I'm not unbelievable.
Okay, text tweet at us Creekor Craig. We'll do a poll.
I know what the popular opinion isgoing to be. I understand that.
(04:20):
I'm not going to change my way. It's not an opinion, it's
a fact. That's the deal. There's opinions here, don't do We have
to go back to the word elementary. You get tree out of elementary,
that it's elementary. Chip, saveus elementary, save us Chip. I
think that's where were in your TennesseeOrange. Well, I know where we're
(04:42):
going with this. You look great, thank you, but we're worried about
you. Chip. This is apodcast intervention. This is it's not what
you've done, it's what you haven'tdone. And we just miss you.
We don't see you around anymore. You're not at the games, you're not
at the press conferences, and thelast couple of weeks you're like the last
one here, Chip, I gethere fifteen minutes before you know, I
(05:05):
always do, and you're normally herefor the last Do you know what time
I pulled in that parking garage today? Honestly according to you, like nine
to fifteen? It was fifteen,Chip, nine fifteen on the dot?
Does it walk in until nine fifteennine? We had to go? He
was doing he was otherwise detained.Well, that's good. I was.
I was on the I was finishingup some stuff for football across Minnesota on
(05:28):
the car. Okay, because younever know. Well, Rady was trying
to tell me, Monday is abig is a big day for you,
which is why we haven't seen youon Mondays. Yeah, because I put
I put my football across Minnesota calumtogether on Mondays and it takes ten hours,
okay, so I don't have achance to go anywhere. I get
up early and I work late, and it just takes a long time to
(05:49):
put that together. So I haven'tbeen able to come to flex press conference.
You haven't missed much. Yeah,I do watch him back after I
get done with with Fan. WhenI put that to bed, I watched
back to the YouTube and the gamesis just you know I'm not going to
Purdue. Yeah, you've been toPurdue enough. I've been to Purdue enough.
And you know, LaBelle had Illinoisand then I was with the Vikings
(06:11):
week before, so I haven't seenhim play in a while, seen obviously
watching on TV. And yeah,we just miss you, man. I
mean this is your this podcast,is your baby, you birth this.
I'm not missing it. No,I know you're here, but we just
liked seeing you around. We justliked seeing it. I had to go
to I had to go to dad'sweekend in Madison. We saw that games.
We didn't play beer games, butwe bought a lot of beer games.
(06:36):
The game was just by as muchas you can and drink it.
What was the drinking choice? No, we had Uh we were at bars,
so in the restaurant. So yeah, so got a live and dads
in town because you know you're goingto some places and he's going to take
care of the bill. He mightwell we did. Yeah, the bill,
Yeah, I would hope. Sowe had fun. It was a
(06:58):
good Friday night. Drove back salready because I had covered the Vikings yesterday.
That's back in time to watch theGophers play. So give us the
charging update when because to me,it looked like you were proud to be
with your son, but you weremore proud in the picture that your phone
was at a reason. Yeah, you know, it was still pretty high.
I mean, I think I wasin the nineties the whole time because
I didn't I wasn't checking the wholetime. I wasn't checking my phone much,
(07:23):
if at all. It was like, yeah, I never really had
enough for the uber. That's notalways my greatest fears. We're going to
be in the college town. Yeah, and I can't can't get an uber
because my phone's dead, so I'mnever going to get So when they get
into a bowl game, it eithersix and six or a pr No chance
(07:43):
I'll be there. You're not comingto fort worth less than zero champs?
No, that's disappointed. Well Iwas about to say we can we have
to do it again another picture.Last year I was just by myself.
I can tell you I'm not goingto a six and six bowl game.
Sorry. Well, I thought youloved college football like the rest of them.
Yeah, I thought you loved. Now six and six in Nashville,
I'll be there. Yeah. Isaw somebody projecting a six and six Wisconsin
(08:05):
team going to Nashville, to whichI would say, then why wouldn't a
six and six Gopher team go?Were there? Guards? What do you
mean? I know, I'm sosick of Nashville. I'm sick of your
town, and you're you're sick ofNashville. Yeah, we don't want you,
Well, you don't want clearly twothousand and four, we don't want
you if you're sick of us.My god, now I'm annoyed about that.
(08:26):
All right. I wanted to seefor the Bowl game what we could
get Chip to call our uber atfrom wherever the meetup will be? Yeah,
what what low of of a percentagewould he be willing to do it?
Well, if it's Detroit, thenice thing is everything's walking. Yeah,
you just you're not going to stayin you know, Deerborn. You're
going to stay in downtown Detroit andyou can walk so that you don't need
(08:46):
an uber. What is the lowestpercentage you'll let your phone get to if
you know that you're going out.Chip's going out in the town, and
I bet his phone has never beenbelow like sixty percent. I don't let
it. Why would you? Whatdo you mean, why which remember the
flights of North Carolina when he's likefree charging you nuts, of course,
do not keep your phone plugged inall day? No, no, what's
(09:09):
wrong with you? Seriously, Like, why wouldn't You're sitting at your cubicle.
You got it out there right, just plug thing things. Your phone
battery if it ever does get belowsixty is going to go from sixty to
all off. Yeah, it's justso if you're sitting there working on the
computer, just have it plugged in. I don't understand why you wouldn't.
Yeah, that's true. There's alwaysI'm not going to argue with that.
(09:30):
I charge mine during the show becausetypically I'm running around all morning and then
every once in a while I loveplugging into my car, which I know
drives you the face you gave mewhen I said I don't always have a
car charger, Like why wouldn't you? Well, sometimes my wife needs it,
or sometimes you know, the kidneeds an iPad or something. We
have plenty of chargers. That's thevolume of chargers is not a problem,
(09:50):
it's just just where they are.Get this disappointed face of a father staring
directly been working out. Okay,I'm trying to work on my own personal
charge. You do look good, phone can sit back my own personal charging.
I'm trying to get going. Allright, We've delayed it long enough.
The golfer season is in a ravineor a gulch at the moment,
or a gully. The water hasbeen drained. It's not ideal, not
(10:13):
good, not what I expected inWest Lafayette. I certainly didn't expect six
hundred yards of offense from Perdue.Certainly didn't expect three hundred yards rushing from
Perdue. When you looked at theirpast performances, there would be no indication
that that would even be possible forthem. It's looked like their quarterback is
pretty healthy. I don't think hewas healthy since Illinois game, the last
time they put up, you know, forty plus points when they beat Brett
(10:35):
Bulima and the Align nine. ButBurnsy, we'll start with you. What
your reaction was to what happened atross Aid Stadium on Saturday. I think
this is what it's going to beknown as this season. We've spent so
many, so many of these episodeslamenting and lambasting this offense, but now
they've lost three big ten West games. But it's scored twenty six, thirty
and thirty four points this year.Yeah, and that's going to be the
(10:58):
story of the year for me.Of whyn't they get to Indy. We
can talk about other years where itwas the offense. This year it was
the defense, and it culminated inexplosive play after explosive play. I think
they had five consecutive touchdown drives goingback to that Illinois game because they scored
touchdowns in West Lafayette on the firstfour drives. But it's just chip.
Yeah, explosive plays just continue todecimate this defense. Yeah, and it's
(11:24):
uh, I know, not havinglindenbergen or hurt him obviously, which but
how about that. I don't wantto hear about excuses. I don't want
to hear it's it's an excuse.Don't tell me you're young, don't tell
me you're injured. Everybody's injured.Purdue had they come on a TV broadcast
talking about they don't even know ifthey have an offensive line, So don't
tell me about don't talk about theinjuries. I'm tired of the excuse making
(11:46):
that you're hearing right now, there'sno excuse for giving up that kind of
place to that offense, which ishorrible. I mean, they're just not
good, and so there is it'sinexcuseable. And again, don't tell me
about you don't have you have younglinebackers. Nobody wants to hear that in
your seven and it is your seven. So if you're talking about your death
(12:07):
in year seven, that's a coachingproblem. So how'd they get their linebacker?
Yeah, loisen a Burnsey Chip,Well, how did they get here?
At linebackers? Well? I alsowant to know what happened to Lennenberg
that he went from playing you cansee why impactful, how impactful he is
against Illinois, plays the best gameof his career, seemingly finish that game
healthy as far as we know, and then misses the next game. I
(12:31):
don't know what happened there, Butthen you get Baranowski banged up. So
how do they get here? Well, it'd be nice if you had potentially
Raylan Oliver who's at Georgia Tech,or Donald Willis who's at Western Michigan.
But even in that same breath,I'm not here to tell you they're good
players, Chip, because I haven'twatched any Georgia Tech or Western Michigan this
year. I haven't, but Ican look at the Pro Football Focus grades
(12:52):
for them and they're not very kind. And I would say there, they
at least played here. Those guys, I mean, Oliver played a lot
here. I feel like a lesserextent. Yeah, and they were both
just okay, if not just belowthat. And so when you get to
where you are, where their ownWestern Michigan transfer Ryan Sealy hasn't performed up
(13:13):
to expectations. That's why they're throwingout a true freshman against Purdue when Baranowski
goes down, because they think he'sthe best option of the three. That's
how you get here. That's thething with the portal and an I l
and everything. And it's not anexcuse, it's just when you can't go
out and buy depth. But itis interesting that the NLI you know,
(13:33):
ic conversation comes up after Northwestern afterthis game. Did we talk about it
after Iowa or Michigan State. Theydidn't really come up that week, did
it? No? Find that interesting? Well, why you're going to bring
it up after you lose but notafter you be teams? Well, when
people are asking you, well, why did you suck? Why did this
team get blown out? Why whycouldn't you stop anybody? It's going to
(13:54):
come up. Yeah, but thenit's not a problem against Iowa. But
it didn't. It didn't come up. Nobody said, hey, well he
brings that up, not even askedabout it. You asked about That's true.
We ask about the defense all thetime. I asked about the defense
right away, Go what happened defensively? Yeah, and then you bring up
in Il. Well, he doesn'tbring up in il He just brings up
that there they lost a couple ofplayers. He didn't he brought up in
Io after Northwestern when you ask himabout Darius Taylor, he brings up in
(14:20):
Iowa, we're gonna lose these guys. But that had nothing to do with
the Northwestern loss. He just broughtthat up on his own the week after
though. Yeah, it didn't strikeyou as interesting, not really. I
mean, there's more to there's moreto talk about in a win that he's
gonna want to talk about, forsure. I mean, we could have
talked about it in Iowa. Butwhy wouldn't We were talking about a fair
(14:41):
catch signal that wasn't college. I'mjust saying, when you bring that up
after losses. That's why people getfrustrated. Sure, yeah, I mean
you you can't. Yeah, butit doesn't necessarily mean that he's wrong.
It's just what I said to you, Burnsy is you can. The reasons
are the reasons. It's up toall of you how much you want to
put in to him, if youwant to say yes, that's acceptable or
no, that's unacceptable. And reallythe only person that it matters to is
(15:05):
Mark Coyle if he accepts that,or if he looks at it and goes,
hey, how did we get here? And my question today that we're
going to spend some time on Ihope is will that because obviously no one
wants to hear that. You're right, I'm gonna let him explain it.
I'm gonna say, hey, thenumber one question I've gotten this week is
why are you so young at linebacker? Right now? And he's going to
say exactly what he just what Bersiejust said. He's gonna say, we
lost a couple of guys in theportal. It was also a position we
(15:26):
were already thin at. And myquestion, my response is going to be,
Okay, so has this season orthe last couple of seasons with portal
stuff. Has it changed at all? How you feel like you need to
approach things moving forward? And that'sthe answer I want to hear, yeah,
because maybe it has, or maybeit's do I need to because the
other problem is too like sometimes whendo those guys leave April or do they
(15:50):
leave right away? No, Williswas in spring. I don't remember when
Oliver was a couple of the leftright. I think Oliver was. I
think Oliver is December. I thinkso then and then they got Sea leg
right, so they just theoretically wentand got the wrong guys, you know,
which is gonna happen. But sothat's what That's what I'm gonna ask
is Okay, well, is thischanged it? Because you do want to
(16:11):
be because here's part of the problem. I even thought about it with you,
Burnsy when you asked him a coupleof weeks ago about the Sunday night
football guys, the guys that theyoung players that are playing well that we
haven't heard of them. Like ifI'm PJ, I'm not answering that.
I'm not telling you, hey,who's here's who's really good as a freshman,
because you know what I mean,Because like if those guys aren't playing
next year, you know they're gonnabe in the portal. Like that's just
(16:32):
how it is now, Like I'dsay, yeah, Sunday, No,
we're good. Yeah, Like we'regonna tell them privately how much we like
and we're not gonna tell everybody. And again, would that matter? Probably
not. But I wouldn't want anybodyknowing who my good young players are at
the moment. I really wouldn't.I do wonder if this season has and
I don't know Mark Coole does thisbecause we know he's a huge PG fan,
But if he will sit down andsay, you know, we need
(16:53):
to talk about your coordinators, aboutyour office, and you need to look
at your offensive philosophy is this Doesit need to change? Do you need
to change? Yeah? I thinkthose are questions that an athletic director should
have with the head coach after twopretty disappointing seasons and in terms of not
being able to win a West titlewhen it was there to be taken and
(17:17):
some of these losses that you continueto see. I don't know that I
would Are you referencing twenty twenty twoor twenty twenty one or twenty nineteen is
a pretty disappointing year. Well,in terms of disappointing not being able to
win. This is a this seasonis a total disappointment. But I think,
yeah, if this one is differentthan disappointing not being able to get
over that next hurdle in terms ofwinning the West, which it doesn't matter
(17:37):
now because it's you know, theWest is going away, but until it
comes back, until until we've gotfor it, do you think you have
to I think we said this lastyear about PJ, and he didn't.
You know, you need to lookat your coordinators. Are you being you
know, unreasonably loyal to guys thatyou like and you've been around long time,
(18:00):
and then also you're just your wholephilosophy on offense? I mean,
I just but what about Burnsy's pointthat they've scored what what's the point total
offensively in losses three big ten Westlaws? And this one doesn't bother me
as much as because this one thedefense gave you no chance to win.
But Illinois, for example, wellthey're first in the West in points scored
and they were coming into last week. Yeah it's not maybe it's not just
(18:21):
so much, but they've lost points. But it's like them, they've lost
big ten West games where you scoredtwenty six, thirty and thirty four.
Yeah, I mean, I'm notsaying it's just and I would argue this
perdue game. This was the firsttime I think PJ finally looked at himself
and talked to the offensive coordinator andsaid, we can't stop anybody. You
got to keep the foot on thegoal. Yeah, this dictated it.
And some of this was garbage pointstoo. Let's be at the empty point.
(18:44):
Yeah, that's why I said Idon't even worry about this last week
because the field goals, like theymoved the ball. The field goal thing.
My biggest problem with the offense isyou get it to the twenty two
and you get to serve. That'sthat's That's the thing I'm saying. But
yeah, it's not so much likelike your whole system, but it's the
philosophy of this conservative nature and playingfor field goals and third and nine,
we're going to run it because wejust want to kick a field goal.
(19:06):
We don't trust guys. It's likethat. Stuff adds up. Yeah,
it comes back to this year.I mean, it adds up. It
is the conversation if you're coil that. But I don't know Cole is going
to have that conversation. But it'sthe conversation I think you need to have.
Is I think Coyle can see itlike we do on this podcast,
where it's it's clear that you havea direction you want to go on offense,
but then there's moments and games whereyou PJ get your hands so all
(19:30):
over this thing where it's clear weknow who's calling plays and then who's dictating
plays in these certain situations. Butyou know he's I just don't know that
it'll change. I mean, that'swhat we're all. That's the larger point
here, is it's going in thenext year. You have to adapt.
I mean you just have to adapt. I mean, didn't we have the
same conversation at the end of lastyear too, Like yeah, yeah,
(19:51):
this year has been as bad aslast year. I know. It's I
mean the first the first halfs ofthese passing games, it's been good.
It's been solid. I mean Athen'sbeen good. He's been moving the ball
around, multiple guys have scored. Then something happens in the second half like
they've done, where the wheels justkind of stop because I don't put this.
I mean, last year, Imean they were I mean last year
they lost to Purdue. They scoredten, right, I mean it was
(20:11):
just a debacle every step of theway. And so I don't I don't
think last year's offensive struggles are thesame as this year's. They're definitely.
Yeah, well they're also on runningback. I mean, Jordan Nubn's a
great story, but also you weregiving Jordan Nuben twenty carries and like,
you don't have any depth. Youhave no depth at running back right now,
(20:33):
we're not allowed well and we're notallowed to talk about that. Chip
said, don't say, don't saydeath. Well it's yeah, it's like
and their death of running back hasbeen good, I know, I mean
it makes sense. They at thedefense tackle or defense line has been good.
Depth linebackers not can't be deep everywhere. No, But you know there's
things about this whole season is like, why have they had such a big
(20:57):
problem with drop passes? Yeah,it's not just this year. I feel
like I've been going to the PJat least I've been going to Fleck press
conferences since twenty nineteen, where hecomes in just lamenting his And that's the
funny part is he's the NFL receiverscoach, he's the college receivers coach.
Yeah, and second straight week,a senior receiver just drops a touchdown,
(21:17):
right, And it's not just likeoccasionally, it's a lot like it's a
problem like Athen's passes aren't always accurate, and so that plays a little bit
of a part in do it.I'm not here to tell you otherwise,
but I mean Attman Bell did notplay well. Even though he caught a
touchdown. He dropped that touchdown whereif he catches it, it's twenty eight
twenty seven at halftime, and thenthe first drive of the second half,
(21:38):
I hate the second half passing gamemore than anyone. Yep, first third
down, Chris just drops it.It couldn't have been in a better spot.
It drops it. I think thethird drive third down, another drop.
And yeah, for a kid likeeighth and caliac Manus who continually doesn't
have consistent success in the second half, you're trying to get these short,
(21:59):
easy throws to get him going. And then in the second half of games,
or even in the second quarter whereaupman Beel drops it, just you
need guys make plays, and they'reprobably more compounded because you know, Kali
mass is gonna have passes where hethrows them at their feet. Yeah,
right, for sure. Yep,he's inconsistent, and so when he does
put it on the money and youdrop them, they're like, it's even
ten times worse. Well, wealways talked about the small margin frere in
(22:22):
the passing game to have mistakes historicallybecause they didn't do it a whole lot.
Now they're doing it more, butit seems like, yeah, it's
always something like PJ said, afoot off here, or the guy drops
it or whatever. Now when yousay the coordinators, are you talking about
the offensive coordinators, Well, well, special teams for sure. Okay,
yeah, that's a whole other.Yeah, that's something I think we all
kind of agree. Yeah, Imean that's where that's to say. The
(22:45):
loyalty. I mean you have tosit here and say, okay, listen,
like, right, what are wedoing because the numbers historically because offensively
I'm with Burnsy and this has beenmy Brian Farrens thing, Like I think
Brian Farance is getting a raw deal. Now that's taken them with a grain
of salty he's had a he's hada good job for a long time.
Yeah, and obviously, but it'slike when your head coach has a philosophy,
(23:07):
it's hard for the coordinator to justgo agains it. Yeah, it's
your dad. When I say coordinators, I meant coordinator. Okay, yeah,
okay, let's say where there aresome issues in the first six games
of the year with the offense hundredpercent as you're breaking in a brand new
coordinator on offense, but if youcan't see a thing getting better in the
four games since the buye and morepoints being scored. Now they're finally scoring
on opening drives too. Like,I think there's things to build upon offensively,
(23:33):
but I also just think when you'reon Jordan Nuben for twenty carries a
game right now because Zach Evans getshurt again again, Darius Taylor is still
on the bench. Yeah, SeanTyler got a carry right with the end
with like sixty seconds left, andthen Bryce Williams is out. That's him.
I would have just dropped it justbecause yeah, sorry, no,
(23:56):
I'm just kidding. Yeah, it'sit's uh, you know, a season
like this and these losses really makeyou like it's clear to me the one
spot we've talked about linebacker that theycould have used as Flip Dixon sting.
Yeah, him paired alongside Nubman backthere, because that's strong safety position.
Fleck mentioned it yesterday. Yeah,he compared that Purdue game to twenty eighteen
(24:18):
Maryland. Yeah. Yeah, hecould have said twenty eighteen Illinois. He
could have said twenty twenty Maryland.Yeah. I mean, and poor Jordan
Howden is the guy who is goingto be the poster child. That's the
other thing where like, defensively,I do give him a little a little
bit of the benefit of the doubtwith like Rossi's eye and the things that
he likes, because he's been prettyspot on on guys that he wants to
bring in. And PJ said theexact same thing at twenty eighteen, like
(24:41):
Nuban's going to be a good player, and we were all like, you're
out of your mind. Yeah, the guy can't get anywhere near where he's
like, they're literally picking on him. Every team is coming in and going
where's number twenty three? So hehas a little bit of a past performance
in saying that, But that doesn'tmake Saturday anymore fun. No, it
doesn't make it. The result isthe result, and that's how he got
there. Was they continue to pickon the strong safeties, the linebackers.
(25:06):
Well, credit credit perdue too, because they bring the freshman in and they
here fake the screen there, andthey knew that kid was going to be
out of position, and they youknow grand coaches too, Yes, yeah,
and they did what we've been pleadingfor offenses of yesteryear to do.
They bring in a brand new kid. You know, he doesn't know what
he's going to be doing. He'sgoing to take the cheese and that's what
(25:26):
you do. Yeah, and thatkid's head what's his name, Matt Kingsbury.
Matt Kingsbury from Saint Rita's in Chicago. Yeah, it's it's it's a
it's a tough spot when he comesin and then he comes off and Linda
Burg telling him something and then Newmanselling him something. They're handing him a
headset and that headset's coming off, they're handing him in other heads It's like,
(25:47):
this poor kid has no chance.I'm sure he felt like he was
drowned, of course, and soI don't blame him at all. And
they obviously halftime, they said,we can't do this anymore. We got
to get a guy who's at leastbeen out here this season, the first
year freshman with a second year freshman, Tyler Stolski. Yeah, but he's
played a little bit, hasn't hea little bit? Yeah, so he's
at least, like I at leastdidn't have to look at the roster to
(26:07):
remember who it was. Yeah, and so, yeah, that was tough,
and so did be over right, because I'm surprised despite all of that,
Like, I agree with you,it still shouldn't be we shouldn't be
thinking about Rob Smith. No,at any point, even though like it's
been kind of a thing defensively thisyear, like the explosive plays have killed
(26:29):
them. I looked this up.I think I may have mentioned last week.
I can't remember a year ago sixnationally and third down defense. Yeah,
right now, one hundred and fifteenthn Ashally. Big difference, incredible,
Yeah, difference. You go fromtwenty eight percent I think it's forty
five percent now mm hmm. Andthat's the thing. I mean. I
did that story with Rossie before theseason. He said, explosive players are
(26:49):
the most important stat in football. The biggest indicator on whether you win or
losing. It's born out there.Yeah, this season is a test case
for sure. Anything in that Illinois, Northwestern and now Purdue game. I
looked it up. I think they'veallowed seventeen different plays in those three games
of over twenty yards. Seventeen differentand these were not I flying offenses.
(27:11):
No, they weren't at the time. And that's the You asked a good
question on Monday, Burnsy to PJ. And we've kind of talked about this
at some point, and I thinkhe did a little bit. You have
to stop calling it like you've gotyeah, like you have the defense that's
going to get off the field onthird down, like it's happened a couple
times this season. Iowa, MichiganState, Louisiana. I think in the
non conference, who was the otherteam that Eastern Michigan didn't didn't get a
(27:34):
first down? Like they ran likefive plays Like Okay, so you've you've
had that probably fooled you a littlebit into thinking that you had these defenses
of yesteryear because and his answer isexactly what I expected. I'm never going
to not believe in my team thatwe can't play complimentary football. But it's
game ten, it's game eleven. Now, Like I knew the answer I
was going to get, you stillhave to ask the question. He talks
(27:55):
every week about, you know,we're this close to playing complimentary football.
Sixty minutes offense the year, hebasically has them. At some point you
just have to give. I'm justlike I think I said, like at
one point out, at what pointdo you just say this team is it's
not gonna happen? Yeah? He'slike, I'm never I'd never say that.
Yeah, of course team yeah,But I guess internally he's like,
hey, guys, we need toscore thirty. Yeah, so let's figure
out. Speaking to Brian Ferns,he did a podcast a couple of years
(28:18):
ago, the twenty nineteen year becausetheir offense was not good in twenty nineteen
either. Remember twenty nineteen, theyscored twenty one points in the first quarter
or twenty I think it was,and the Gophers were chasing the whole time,
and the person asked him, Ithink it was Chad Leistiko asked him
what happened there? Like you seemso aggressive, and he's like, well,
I looked and Minnesota. He's likeKirk Sharaka is a good coordinator.
They were scoring thirty five a game. They had dudes everywhere. Let's just
(28:41):
say our defense, which is good, holds him to half. Okay,
that's seventeen eighteen whatever, which isa big ask. We're gonna need to
score twenty one to twenty two points. So we just had That's how we
had to call the game. Yeah, and that's what I think. That's
how now this weekend it's Ohio Statelike whatever. But that's how it probably
should have been going the last fewweeks. Is even though again they scored
(29:03):
the points that they scored, certainlyagainst Illinois, they don't have the defense
this year to play the way thathistorically they have played here in one and
it's interesting you couldn't see you watchedthe TV copy they kept showing flat at
the end the second half end thegame. He looked different. He looked
shell shock. I mean he hadhit a different well that's what literally shell
(29:25):
shot because you said yesterday that hekept thinking back on the sidelines to twenty
eighteen minutes. Wonder that's what itwas. Because he just looked different.
He had like a what didn't lookat the typical PJP yep. And that's
and it's weird because this this, you know, I know they're you know,
the linebacker situation. But we've talked, We've raved about their defensive line
all year, right, We've ravedabout Tyler Newman making turnovers. I mean,
(29:49):
Wally's had a decent year. Ithink they have these moments where they
create turnovers, the defensive line getssacks, they have pressures, but they
just haven't sustained it, and thenthey'll just give up a long explosive to
play there. But you know,it's a backbreak. Well, that was
my thing with GUARDSI on Sunday waswhere was the d line in that game?
And that was not a good Purdueoffensive line coming in and they didn't
(30:10):
show. And to your point withturnovers coming into that game that Minnesota had
forced eight turnovers in the last threegames, seventy nine points scored zero turnovers
in that entire game. Just justa very very strange type of game in
that way. Anything else you guyswant to talk about thirty minutes in go
for related We've got Ohio State comingup to Saturday three o'clock tip. Now
(30:33):
in the horseshoe four touchdown underdogs.Yeah, and I don't know that you'll
get anything fixed. I think atthis point, if you're fleck, it's
do whatever you can to get Linnenbergready for Wisconsin. Do whatever you can
to get Darius Taylor ready for Wisconsin. Because as much as it is Minnesota
in this West, here's I thinkfive teams in the Big Ten West at
five and five and three and four. Yeah, like that's the whole thing
(30:56):
is just you know, we weretalking about the the the offenses and quarterbacks,
and last week I was saying thateverybody's bad. And you think I
looked it up Sunday because it Ithink is the PJ after the game?
Tell you because somebody tweeted out.I don't know if Zacharty said you gotta
give Purdue credit. They've been explosiveall year. He might have said that
with me, or he said itpostgame he said it, which, yeah,
(31:18):
okay, right, they're not. They haven't been all They may have
been explosive all year, they haven'tscored like that eight year. So I
looked up we consider what explosive playstwenty or twenty five they do twenty five,
we'll say twenty, right, becausethat's what CFB stats does, which
I look at the website, soI looked it up and they they you
know, they'll have plays it.Offenses have twenty yards, thirty yards,
(31:38):
forty yards, fifty yards. Iwent through and the twenty yard plays by
offense, eleven of the big tenteams ranked ninety fifth or worse. There's
just no explosiveness outside of Ohio State, Michigan games, Penn State probably had
they did have way down. That'strue actually, because the friend has been
(31:59):
asked about that a lot. You'reright, and that's why maybe he fired
his offensive coordinator. He's about tohire his sixth offensive coordinator in ten years.
And I think only Joe Moore hadleft to go. Wonder if Joe
Moore had comes back. He's hishead coach at Acron who's not winning.
Butn't that like your two or three, they're ready to move on. I
don't know. I mean, Okay, we got a lot of time to
(32:19):
talk coaching, Carriag. Yeah, they trust me. We will all right.
Ohio State this weekend they number onein the country, horse a lot
of defensive players. Yeah, andwe could use the ghost of Ron Johnson.
Yeah, we could use the ghostof Ron Johnson. I guess all
right, let's take a break. We'll come back. We've got other things
to talk about here. In ourfinal twenty minutes or so of the Pair
(32:40):
and a Spare podcast. My momsent me a text the other day,
guys, can we get a breakfastwith Santa on the calendar at Jack's Cafe
if we're going to try. We'regoing to try Saturdays in December, the
second, ninth, and the sixteenth. On the text, She's going to
be mad because she listens. Sheactually she is a parent of Spare T
(33:00):
shirt, which all of you shouldbuy. Yeah, she has a parent
of Spare t shirt. But Jack'sCafe, given that it is the holiday
season and we are just about twoThanksgiving, is the perfect spot for your
holiday gathering. If you want toget together the night before Thanksgiving, they've
got a great deal there as wellthat we'll talk about. But if you
just want to have a date night, or if you want to do breakfast
with Santa the second to ninth andthe sixteenth Saturdays, Jackscafe dot com for
(33:22):
all the info celebrating ninety years Chipperright here in Minneapolis, I'm going to
give you the perfect meal there.Right, So if you're listening, you're
going there and you want to knowwhat you should get. Here's your perfect
meal. Start with a salad.I had a salad last time, excellent,
just outstanding. Loaded baked potato scallops, get it loaded. Yeah,
(33:45):
scalps are tremendous. Um. Theygot a nice wine selection, yes,
the wine with it. You're abig mer low guy. I know.
I'm a cab guy. Okay,I'll start out with an ipa and then
for dinner have a nice cab andthen you'll mix it like that. Huh
yeah. And then and then yougot to you gotta finish it with crimberly.
(34:05):
So there's your meal. Go there, order that you'll cut. You'll
be completely satisfied. I'm I havean affinity for the steak there. I'm
a big steak guy. Their steakis really really well done. Uh.
In the Walleye again, I'm aWalleye snob. I will not eat walleye
if I don't trust where it comesfrom in terms of how it's going to
be prepared. Because I know Ican do it better, and I gave
it a shot. My wife convincedme, and it was absolutely incredible.
(34:29):
So, whether it's happy hour, whether it's date night, whether it's breakfast
for Santa, go to Jackscafe dotcom, make some reservations today, jaxcafe
dot com groups of fifteen to fourhundred. They've got you covered. Jaxcafe
dot com, Michigan. I'm soover that whole, the way that they're
(34:51):
now trying to tell people their America'steam, they've turned themselves into martyrs.
I wish I could use I wishI could use explicit language on this podcast.
It's just I mean, I canbleep it out. It's all self
inflicted. What do you mean you'reAmerica's team with this? I just jip.
Yeah, it's that's one way togo about it. Turn yourself into
(35:12):
the victim. That's like, anddid you I sent you guys a text
from Harbaugh's press conference yesterday. Yeah, I'm pulling up Dan Wetzel on a
timer who reviewed it. I heis a deranged man. He is a
deranged would have hired him and coveredhim here? No, I can't.
I think they may. Let's justsay I don't think he would have helped.
So here's a recap Dan Wetzel fromYahu Sports. At his press conference
(35:36):
this would have been yesterday, JimHarbaugh recanted his long held opinion that quarterbacks
shouldn't eat chicken because a chicken isquote a nervous bird. Says he now
owns some chickens and they are quotea low maintenance and high production. Number
two cited watching lots of Judge Judyin response to his upcoming legal hearing.
Number three said his raspy voice wasn'ta sign of sickness because quote, I'm
the iron wall that viruses bash againstand chatter end quote promise to just do
(36:00):
more push ups and eat an applejust in case. Did you know that
he was actually in the audience fora Judge Judy episode. I did know
that. Did you know he wasalso in an episode of Saved by the
Bell as screeches uncle in the nineties. Wow, he's a productive dude.
He's a productive dude. No doubthis team is great, No doubt his
players are great. You've got thepresident of Here's what I'll say. Can
(36:22):
you imagine Mark Coyle putting out thestatement that Ward Manual put out in defense
of Jim Harbaugh on Saturday morning.I think it was after the In fairness
to them, in fairness to everybodyto have this Friday afternoon news dump,
and they're literally on the plane.Like when we're getting reports like Michigan's the
(36:43):
Big Ten's going to announce something earlyafternoon, and they all know Michigan's getting
on the plane early on, likemove up your announcement. Call him in
the morning and go, Jim,don't get on the plane. You're suspended.
Like that's stupid. Yeah, thatmakes no sense to me. But
that's the only only thing I'll giveMichigan on this. I mean the Sharon
(37:04):
Collins right, acting head coach.Yeah, he's crying in the interview,
like Jim Harbaugh is at the IowaChildren's Hospital fighting for his life and dropping
explicit's left and right, I meantelevision. He didn't die. No,
he's not fighting for his life. You guys obviously cheated, whether Jim Harbaugh
knew it or not, which giveme a break stopping like this whole thing
(37:24):
is. But so you've got theward manual statement, which is basically calling
out all his colleagues and saying, hope you're happy, because now Big ten
could be judged during execution, andthen you've got the president of the school
tweeting out the bet Michigan deal thatall the players were doing. Yeah,
I'm just thinking of Joan Gable oryour guy the interim from Hormel doing that.
(37:45):
Give me a break, Yeah, give me a break, Michigan.
And to grand standing the way theyhave when there's every school in the Big
Ten probably has some sort of evidencethat they did it at their stadium.
Minnesota has evidence, Yes, hebought it here. And here's the other
(38:08):
thing that is bothering me. Alot of national voices we talked about this
last week saying, I think MichaelWilbon said this, among others, Well,
the Big Ten might come to regretthis because Michigan is their best chance
to win a national championship. Soyeah, like so we're just supposed to.
So is this what we're doing now? Like if no one cares about
(38:29):
rules or standards or anything, that'sfine. If that's what we're gonna do,
then just do away with all ofit. And some people would argue,
maybe that's already happening whatever, Butallow some of us to hold on
to some of the romance that allof this stuff is supposed to be fair.
Like, Man, Michigan, BigTen's gonna regret this because Michigan could
have won the national title and theconference just signed a billion dollar TV deal
(38:49):
and they haven't. They've had onenational title in two in like since two
thousand, right, well, like, give me a break. And then
I also saw the tweets, wellwait till Michigan just leaves joins another conference,
and like, go ahead, they'rereally going to do that, right
and if they do, fine,Yeah, they're not going to number one
and number two. I think we'llbe fine. They'll just grab somebody else
and throw them in there. Imean, this whole thing is a debacle.
It's absurd. It's absurd, burns, it is absurd, even go
(39:14):
ahead. Well, I just wondered, do we think he will get an
injunction on Friday. I had nota great legal mind, and honestly,
I don't even if we're thinking thiswhole thing is written, he's not going
to get it this week. He'sgonna get it the Friday before the big
games, and then Big Noon onFox is going to be I mean I
(39:37):
also think that might be. Imean, Michigan goes out and beats Penn
State. Penn State ends up firingtheir offensive coordinator after that game. But
Michigan versus Ohio State this year isgoing to be a lot of fun because
that house, as much as itis about Marvin Harrison A Mecca Buca,
I mean, Ohio State story isjust they go from being explosive play central
(39:58):
prop smith esque with that last yearto this year they have been a killer
on defense. Here's what I hopehappens. I hope Ohio State beats him.
I hope the Michigan gets relegated tolike the Peach Bowl, and I
hope Jim Harbaugh is coaching the Raidersby then. There's not a does anyone
here believe that as we sit hereon November fourteenth, that come January first,
(40:19):
Jim Harbaugh is coaching the Michigan WolverinesBecause I don't. I don't think
he's in the NFL. Well, here's January Fifteenth's one? How many outside
of Vegas? Because I don't think. I don't think Kevin Warren's hiring him.
I really don't. In Chicago,I know people make that connection.
(40:39):
I doubt it. Maybe maybe theydo, I don't know. But the
thing is It's like he's a reallygood coach, no question, but there
is just a lot you have todeal with. Yeah, and not you
know, even forget the this part. It's just his quirky personality and is
an NFL organization gonna want to dealwith that if they want to win.
(41:04):
But he will win. I meanhe'll win for four or five years.
And I mean he burns He definitelyburns hot. But yeah, the Michigan
is martyr card. It just infuriates. And to see like big to your
point, big name personalities in thecollege football world portray it that way.
I just can't wrap my mind aroundactually going along with that. No,
(41:29):
I don't. I just for life. We can't understand signing with him on
this. No, because and againin the original statement patit he put out
and said, look, we understandthat we don't have everything yet, but
we have enough. And this isn'tabout Jim Harbad but he's the head coach.
This isn't saying that Jim harbaughd kneweverything. This is just saying this
(41:49):
clearly happened. We have to dosomething, and Jim Harbaugh is going to
sit out for a few games. It's not that complicated. I mean,
if a player like this happens allthe time, if a gets in trouble
or something happens, they're immediately suspendedand then you investigate like that's not it's
not that complicated to understand why he'sbeing suspended. Right, Well, in
near thing is? I mean,as my dad you said, you know
(42:10):
I was born at night, butnot last night? Right for the people
have said, well, how dowe know? Harbelle new So you're telling
me your entire coaching staff knew whatthe other team was going to call when
the head coach had no idea whereit came from. It just fell out
this guy. Yeah, come on, come on, I'd be fair.
He's always kind of just looking aroundelsewhere, so he might not Yeah,
(42:32):
he might not have been looking.Yeah. The whole thing is just it's
too much. It's just too muchfor me at this point. And I
wish they would lose every game, but they've got too many good players,
They've got a great quarter, they'rea great teaming. Without this, they
ran the ball PJ would have itwould have been six to midnight. Yeah.
I think they finished the game againstPenn State running the ball twenty nine
(42:52):
straight times. Yeah, because theycouldn't twenty nine straight times. But the
first round quarterback who loves it?Who doesn't? Yeah, Krum and Donovan
Edwards are really good. But mygoodness, oh man. Yeah, I'll
be interested to see what happens thisFriday and when they play Maryland, right,
I think it's yeah. I thinkso. Yeah, They've got Maryland.
We know how that's going to go. And then it all sets up
(43:13):
eleven o'clock at the Big House.Jimbo Fisher, here's what you want to
talk about college football, like andplaying fields and how like all these we've
talked about when divisions go away,Like how are these teams supposed to compete
Texas A and M. There's aschool in the country paying seventy six million
(43:34):
dollars so that their current head coachno longer coaches there. Can you imagine
what seventy six million would do atWisconsin or Iowa or Minnesota or Northwestern or
any other team not with a bunchof Texas Oil tycoons. And that's what
they're doing. Jimbo Fisher wins byforty one on Saturday, gets fired on
Sunday. I think gust Melson's buyout. Was it last year twenty one?
(43:54):
A couple of years yeah, acouple of years ago was the next highest?
Can be six million dollars to notcoach there and not even because of
a scandal, just underperforming. Theydon't even like your personality. You don't
win enough. They're cotton neutral,is what the athletic director said. Here's
seventy six million dollars go away.Now. Stupidity is when they extended him
(44:17):
for no reason. Yeah, likeI got the original contract ten years,
seven point five mil. We've talkedabout this before. It's like Dablos Sweeney's
gotten huge extensions, like these guysaren't going anywhere, Like I get it
when you know, I mean peoplealways joke about the yearly PJ extension or
when you know Kirk Ferens has gottendifferent extensions like and that's not even the
right comparison, but you know whatI'm saying. Ye, Like when part
(44:43):
of the business Lance Leipold gets someextensions, right, like Jimbo Fisher wasn't
going anywhere. No, Dablos Sweeneywasn't going anywhere, and they keep just
extending and extending just ridiculous amounts ofmoney for what exactly. They show them
that you love him, I meanexactly, and they're ad to of that,
saying, well, I saw BrianKelly got this, and well Brian
Kelly got that at LSU and Jimbowas going there. Then you hire Brian
(45:06):
Kelly. Yeah, another good coach. You guys will be fine. And
so it's but now they're paying forit. I didn't see the what's the
payoff structure for him? He getslike nineteen almost immediately and then it's like
seven and a half a year orsomething like that. There's no offset,
so he can double dip he andgo coach anywhere. Yeah, he can
go do anything. That was thepart of the like the restructure. Yeah,
(45:27):
and the deep in the weeds collegefootball world, they were like,
he's got no offset, Like helike that is normal practice, especially in
this day and age of college footballagents and everything. That is a power
coach that ran over his ad.Yeah. Jimmy Sexton, baby, he's
the he's the agent that was ableto get that done. Jimmy Sexton.
Yeah. Because Texas A and Mis one of say ten or fifteen jobs
in college football that are going tobe in a tier by themselves because of
(45:51):
the money, because of where you'relocated, because of your access to I
love to draw the five hundred mileradius around wherever you your institution is.
They've got a great recruiting base, you have an outstanding NIL program, yep.
And so yeah, you can saythey were stuck in neutral. But
to your guys's point, where washe gonna go? You're already one of
the best ten to fifteen jobs becauseof that, Like, who is He's
(46:16):
not gonna leave to take a lesserjob, knowing what he's got, especially
in this in war chest world. And people aren't gonna stop supporting that program
if you're winning seven or eight games, right, I mean there, Yeah,
there might be no matter. Theymight be mad, yep, but
they're not going to be like,oh, I'm taking my money elsewhere.
No, they're not. I can'tbelieve Boosters are gonna play seventy six million.
(46:36):
I mean they're working on it fora couple of months. Yeah,
it's of course, it's absurd. It's ridiculous. And now I'm interested to
see who they hire. Your guyLane Kiffin has come up. Mikeelko I
think was the decordinator there. Okay, point Dan Mullen. No, not
Dan Mullen, who's the uh theOregon coach? Who Dan Lanning? Who
I love? Did you see whathe said? What he gave a like
(46:58):
a ninety second deal of like I'mnot going anywhere, like because I got
it. That's one of the tento fifteen jobs that's sideways at best.
Yeah, he says, I've goteverything I need here. Now, granted
he knows he could get if hecould get whatever match, but he's just
like, Yeah, coaches say thisstuff because number one, they don't want
to get in trouble if they leave, and number two, they're looking for
(47:19):
a better contract. I'm not interestedin either. I love it here,
my family loves it here. I'vegot everything I need here. I'm compensated
fairly. It's awesome. I lovethat guy. Well, even that guy's
in the Big ten. I lovethat guy. He's like thirty seven.
He's got kids that like Eugene,Like, I love that guy. Everything
that guy says is just spot on, even when the thing that impressed me
most about him is when he madesome really really questionable Washington, he got
(47:46):
ot there and explain him and said, you may not like it, but
this is why I coach. Yeah, PJJ does that, and you said
I want a modern offense. PJgives you the reasons, not excuses,
and you say it's inexcusable. Okayif you were writing for the Eugene Ducks
or whatever. Okay, Oh hedoes. He explains himself. You just
don't like his explanation. Bern Okay, get me out of this. Okay.
(48:09):
I'll just also say Lance Livepold's namehas come up, and he came
out and then the last few daysand said I'm not going anywhere. Now.
We'll see because then we'll step up. Yeah, Kansas to Texas,
A and m for Kansas to There'llbe other jobs. I mean there'll like
st Arkansas becomes open. You've stillgot Michigan State that's open. I mean
there's a million. Mississippi State isnow a Mississippi State's open. They fired
(48:30):
their coach who took over for MikeLeach, you know, who passed away
what a year or so ago, right around this time. So yeah,
it's going to be I mean that'sa big because they're going to go after
somebody big. Yeah, there's gonnabe some dominoes when you're at that school
there's a pressure to make a splash, and you can say, Okay,
what's the splash, But what doyou think happens with James Franklin speak ming
(48:53):
It depends what you think happens withUSC Lees, Lincoln Riley go to the
NFL. You mean so you're thinkingthat too. I mean, I think
there's still a lot big talk aboutI think when we record this in two
weeks that Tuesday after the Wisconsin game, Yeah, there's gonna be a lot
more domino such as USC, suchas potentially UCLA, see if that becomes
(49:15):
open. You know, it's interesting. Penn State and Franklin, they're really
really good. He's done a goodjob there. He just can't win two
games. Yeah, And does thatjob get different with the playoff and with
the schedule? Look, they're gonnabe out of the East now and I
haven't looked at their schedule, butif they have a schedule where they don't
(49:37):
have, they're the both team thatgets in like ranked nine through twelve.
Yes, Yeah, because as muchas everybody laments the Michigan and the and
the Ohio State losses, I thinkgoing back to the start of twenty twenty
two, they've won every other singlegame by double digits. Yeah, well
it's it's you do wonder Lough likefans are crazy yright It's like, is
(50:00):
it do they focus more on thetwo or the other? Right? I
mean the other? I mean becausewhen we were there for the light out,
I mean we literally had people comingup to me doing the Fox nine
pregame shows saying, I hope theGophers win because then we can move on
success with they can't beat these twoteams or do they say, you know
what they got to it's still agood program. That's I mean to your
(50:22):
point that the big picture for themis what is what I would stress to
them is when this thing goes totwelve, you're going to be in it
a lot a lot, yes,you would think, or you're going to
be in the mix at least correct. And I mean fan bases have egos,
as we know. I mean youknow that with your with Yeah.
So that's the thing I would stresseven our listeners is when that Sunday after
(50:45):
the Wisconsin game comes and whatever itis now eleven days, like there's going
to be a lot of moves madebecause number when the portal's going to open
and the national signing day is onthe twentieth, and if you delay it
until first second week of December, you are screwing over your university, right
like you are just gonna punt anentire recruiting class transfer portal class, and
(51:06):
that's gonna sit back ther institution. Is the portal open next? That Patrice
went in her like? Is hejust trying to get ahead of the game.
I don't remember. I don't knowthat just because he was like a
student assistant, maybe he's maybe it'sdifferent for grad transfers, because that's what
I assume. I assume he's tryingto get in front of the line before
everybody because he had an injury too, that's why he's been banged up.
But the portal opens, say thefourth it's been around a minute. Yeah,
(51:31):
he's been around a minute. Allright, good discussion today, good
good podcast, good pair and despair. Hope to see you a game sometime.
I will. Are you coming toWisconsin? I got the vikings this
weekend, so I'll be in Denverand then I will be at Wisconsin.
Good for you? All right? All right, we just missed almost over.
(51:52):
We miss hearing that rat a tattat of the season, Cliff after
I stopped going right well that somany people have said that, many people.

Dolly Parton. Yeah, really yeah, we got Georgia and Dolly's coming.
This is this is big stuff. And I'm saying you're still going to Denver.
