Is Trump really suggesting a 'purge' to combat crime, or are we living in a twisted version of reality?" In this episode, we humorously examine Trump's latest controversial statements, including his bizarre proposal of a 'purge' day, later scaled down to just an hour. We reflect on the irony of crime rates dropping under Biden, despite Trump's fearmongering, and share some personal stories like Carol's laptop calamity to highlight the relentless stress of staying updated with the news.

Next, we delve into the dangerous path of Trump's rhetoric and the looming threats of his potential re-election. We discuss the unsettling possibility of Trump being granted immunity by the Supreme Court, his plans to fill federal positions with loyalists, and state governors empowering him to deputize local law enforcement. The media's failure to critically analyze Trump's statements, coupled with his blatant ignorance on basic issues—like phone apps and hurricane seasons—paints a dire picture of his readiness (or lack thereof) for another term.

Lastly, we stress the crucial role of voting, especially as the 2024 elections approach. Even in traditionally blue states, voter turnout is vital for down-ballot races. We talk about the impact of redistricting and the role of state legislatures in safeguarding elections. Additionally, we address the manipulation of polling data by biased sources, urging caution against skewed polls that distort public perception. Tune in for a critical, engaging, and often humorous commentary on the surreal state of today's politics.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
one, two, three, four .
Hey, this is d night this iscarol and womp, and dies at work
and you're listening to thepardon the insurrection podcast,
where we do not endorse theidea of a 12-hour period in
which all crime is deemed legal, including murder especially

(00:23):
murder I mean, I mean weespecially do not condone that
no, we don't condone it, eventhough numerous republicans
recently have tried to murdertheir own presidential candidate
.
But that aside, um, it's been awacky, wild week, as per the
usual non-stop news every singlegoddamn day.
It's driving me crazy.

(00:43):
Uh, I don't know how many ofyou out there consume alcohol on
a regular basis, but, uh, ifyou're thinking of quitting
drinking anytime soon, you'recrazy.
Yeah, I would suggest you holdoff.
Typically I don't mean, uh,it's super, super bad for you.
It's killing you, but like sostress yeah, but it's also

(01:04):
keeping your soul alive at thispoint with all of this
ridiculous nonsense that's goingon in the news, in the media,
especially in an election cyclewill um get rid of a hundred
percent of your will to live now.
The flip side of that it's notcoffee if you don't drink
alcohol.
That's like one less beveragethat you might accidentally

(01:25):
spill on your laptop, as Carolonce did not too long ago here.
But she got a replacement,Chardonnay Carol, as we like to
refer to her.
That's her new nickname.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
I don't know what happened.
That laptop just stoppedworking on its own.
I have no idea what happened tothat.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Look, at least your nickname is far better than what
they're calling the diddler, soyou have that going for you.
But in case you missed it, overthe course of this weekend and
one of Trump's events, he wasreferencing the amount of crime
in the United States, eventhough the FBI just put out a
report showing that over thecourse of the past six months,

(02:03):
crime has drastically decreasedunder the Biden administration.
Yet another accomplishment thathe, just like he, continues to
be lacking in terms of praise asfar as the public is concerned.
But at this event, trump wassaying all of this crime, blah,
blah, blah.
It's terrible.

(02:23):
There's one way to fix it.
We should have a day in whichhe was basically endorsing the
idea of the purge, and if youthink that I'm being ironic
there, I heard something aboutlike one hour, but it's gonna be
really really bad, really badhour.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Make them not do.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Yeah, okay he started off with an entire day and then
, I think, he toned it down tojust an hour because he realized
how absurd he fucking sounded.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
But you'd see it originally.
You saw kids walk in withcalculators.
They were calculating, theydidn't want to go over the $950.
They're standing withcalculators adding it up.
You know, these are smart, smart people.
They're not so stupid, but theyhave to be taught.
Now, if you had one reallyviolent day, like a guy like
Mike Kelly, put him in charge, congressman Kelly.

(03:16):
Put him in charge for one day.
Mike, would you say he's righthere, he's a great congressman.
Would you say, mike, that ifyou were in charge, you would
say, oh, please, don't touchthem.
Don't touch them.
Let them rob your store.
All these stores go out ofbusiness, right?
They don't pay rent, the citydoesn't have money.
It's a chain of events that'sso bad.

(03:38):
One rough hour and I mean realrough, the word will get out and
it will end immediately, allright.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
So the idea that all those kids that you said were
trying to take calculators howdare they do math?

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Yeah, like I guess engaging in crime in which you
use a calculator does show somesort of intelligence that you
could probably apply to anotherendeavor.
No, the idea Trump is basicallyendorsing there is that if there
were a day or some period oftime in which you could be
violent towards criminals, thatthat would end crime.
That is the plot of the Purge.
I kid you not Now if youhaven't seen any of the Purge
films.
The basic premise there is thatthe conservative government in

(04:24):
like an alternate version of theUnited States, has instituted a
policy where one day a year, for a 12-hour period, all crime
is legal in the United States, including murder, and the idea
behind that is that if you givepeople the opportunity to engage
in just a free reign of terrorand destruction for a short

(04:46):
period of time, over the courseof the rest of the year, crime
will decrease.
I mean, like some subplot linesof that include the fact that
it's actually a ploy by thegovernment and a few wealthy
people.
It's a grift like they.
They make billions of dollarsevery year selling guns and
security systems and whatnot.
Make billions of dollars everyyear selling guns and security

(05:07):
systems and and whatnot.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
But also there's a separate subplot.
Is there any?
Are there any entities in thiscountry today that make money
off of of selling guns anddefensive?

Speaker 1 (05:15):
yeah, fair enough.
I mean there are more guns inamerica currently than there are
people.
So, and considering I thinklike two percent of americans
legally own guns, it seems likean absurd number of guns to
flood the country with.
But nonetheless, there's alsothe subplot in these movies of
the idea that the purge is justcover for the party in power to

(05:35):
eliminate their politicalopponents.
So, you know, it seems like thekind of idea Trump would
readily endorse and it's fuckinginsane.
I wish the media would actuallycover this with some kind of
diligence.
I mean, like this is they'restill.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
They still just laughed at the dictator on day
one comment but like, haha, he'sgonna be a dictator.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Moving on, we're talking to someone in a diner
right um, not to mention again, you know, of trump's echoing of
hitler over the course of thepast few years here, not not
only with the dictator on dayone thing, and calling
immigrants animals and sayingthey're also the Night of
Shattered Glass.

(06:15):
If you might be familiar withthat from your American, or
rather your World War.
II history in which you know, hitler did all of this

(06:39):
encouragement of violenceagainst the Jewish community and
businesses and such, and thaterupted into a night of violence
.
I mean it's the parallels aregetting out of control here and
I feel like just not enoughpeople in America are taking
this seriously, the mediaincluded.
Actually, they're probably atthe top of the list.
They seem to be doing a pisspoor job at informing the people

(07:01):
of not only the insanity ofTrump's comments but the
parallels that you can draw fromthem and the fact that, while
he's an unserious person, totally absurd at times, he's
absolutely serious about thethreats he's making and don't
get it twisted and he'ssurrounded himself by people at
this point who are willing tocarry them out for him.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
I mean all of the people who had any integrity
jumped ship a long time ago Imean I don't want to get into
their original integrity.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Fair enough.
Yeah, we don't know how muchintegrity they had to begin with
, but what little shred ofintegrity some of those
individuals might've had, theones that did seem to have at
least some line that theyweren't willing to cross when
you want to have someone who'swilling to tell you, yes, black
is white, then you don't have agood advisor.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
I mean you, you're gonna, you're not gonna, you're
not gonna attract good peoplewhen you're insisting they all
lie to you and then expect goodcounsel anyway gone for sure.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
And then, like the fact that, one, the supreme
Court has granted this dudeimmunity to, they plan on firing
literally everyone theypossibly can in the federal
government If Trump wins theelection, and replacing them
with stooges, basically his ownbrown shirts.
And then, three, there are anumber of state governors who
are willing to let Trumpdeputize their local law

(08:25):
enforcement and treat them ashis own private army.
I would say I would suggestthat, like everyone, take this
shit seriously, because we couldall die if trump's elected in
november.
So keep that in mind.
Um, but the insanity at trump'sevents didn't stop over the
course of the weekend, because, well, look, he can't help
himself.
He just says some of the mostridiculous possible stuff that

(08:48):
you could possibly.
I mean, well, here's a clip ofTrump not knowing what a phone
app is.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
Immigrants.
They have a phone app so thatpeople can come into our country
.
These are smart immigrants, Iguess, because most people don't
have any idea what the hell aphone app is.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
But they do.
These are very yeah, and he'sreferring to an app that that
was used prominently in thecourse of his administration
there to help immigrants dealwith some of the issues that
arise from uh they laughed athim.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Did you hear them laughing?
Yeah, they did laugh.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Now, as insane as that was, um, it drives me crazy
that this nonsense justcontinues to be spouted by him
and his rallies in front ofthese people who, like, take him
seriously, and the media just, they're just like, oh, trump
just held another rally, butthey don't actually cover the
ridiculous content of the thingsthat he actually says.

(09:45):
It drives me crazy.
But here is Trump who, whilebrain dead, is accusing others
of being mentally handicapped insome form or fashion.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
Joe Biden became mentally impaired.
Kamala was born that way, shewas born that way.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Yeah, that is Trump engaging in some of the most
absurdly racist shit he's.
I mean you know it's reallydifficult to rank Trump's racist
comments over the years, but interms of the 2024 campaign
that's pretty bad.
I mean, you know it's reallydifficult to rank Trump's racist
comments over the years, but interms of the 2024 campaign
that's pretty bad.
I mean saying that, theimplication being there that
because Joe Biden is white, thathe's experiencing mental

(10:36):
decline, but because KamalaHarris is black, that she's
somehow been mentally she wasborn mentally disabled.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
And this is coming from the person despite all the
evidence that she is muchsmarter than him, and just
kicked his ass and embarrassedhim in a debate yeah, that's
well.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
If you take trump's implication in his word, then
he's lost to two mentallyhandicapped people I mean he's
no longer campaigning, he's justcomplaining.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
I mean that's just his thing, right?

Speaker 1 (11:09):
well, yeah, his campaigns are a mix of him
whining and like trash, talkinglike in a way that's not even
clever or like yeah, it's likewhite supremacist deaf comedy.
Jam up there like the.
The jokes quote unquote thathe's making are Quite terrible.
But I mean, that's that's alsoTrump calling someone else

(11:31):
mentally disabled or whatnot, while also not knowing what a
phone app is and also, well, clearly not knowing anything
about hurricane season, as youwill see in this particular clip
here.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
Georgia, as well as North Carolina, south Carolina,
florida, virginia, alabama andTennessee.
That's a big one, and thedevastation wrought by this
storm is incredible.
It's so extensive.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
Nobody thought this would be happening, especially
now it's so late in the seasonfor the hurricanes?
No, it's not.
And also, everyone was warningthat this was going to have
devastating effects when it madelandfall.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
Yeah, we do that days in advance.
Also, it's peak hurricaneseason, Like I mean.
I think it's pretty clear.
It's like September, end ofSeptember, early October.
This is when hurricanes are atthe most severe, and literally
anyone who just knows the bareminimum about hurricanes
understands that.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Anyone who's looked at cruises ever and was like why
is it so cheap at this time ofyear?
Oh, yeah, you know, because youcould potentially paying
attention and remember when allthe other serious hurricanes
have been throughout the courseof your life.
And his life has beenconsiderably longer than mine,
so there's like less of anexcuse for him to have so little
self-awareness.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
But sorry, not self-awareness awareness of your
surroundings as well I mean assomeone who was president for
four years and dealt withmultiple natural disasters over
the, and by dealt with I meanremember he tossed all the
hurricanes in september everyyear, something, something cut

(13:08):
me off.
Now it's getting really bad so,yes, by dealing with natural
disasters I mean tossing papertowels, fm and doing nothing

(13:29):
else over the course of hisadministration.
Like, how is the media notholding him accountable for
learning absolutely nothingafter four years on the job and
then four more years campaigningfor president?

Speaker 2 (13:41):
And then telling his underlings no, you have to tell
them.
Tell them that we should havemore paper towels.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
Everyone keep lying and pretending that this is some
great idea yeah, just keep inmind he we just saw a clip of
him referring to joe biden andkamala harris is mentally
handicapped.
And then there he is,immediately proving that he
knows absolutely nothing and hisbrain is jello.

(14:10):
And then just again, man, Idon't know, like I don't know at
what point this country turnedto like this hellscape where a
presidential candidate could say, oh, it's incredibly stupid or
racist or violent shit and thenface no consequences.
I don't know what happened.
Like, is this the georgebushification of the

(14:32):
conservative party?
Is that what happened?
Because I was like, yeah, afterfour or eight years of that,
we'll never see anyone this dumbor stupid or useless again.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Wrong we'll never see someone who made george bush
seem innocent just a sweet, innocent war criminal well and
beyond the war criminality.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Just like the idiocy.
Like if you thought the bushpresidency was like idiocracy,
this is idiocracy I neverthought someone was going to
come around to and make bushseem quaint yeah this is uh yeah
, steroids level stupidity.
I just I don't understand.
It almost has me pulling myhair out.

(15:14):
I mean I just I just need themto do better.
But we also had Trump juststraight up lie about President
Biden's disaster response.
Just just straight up lies.
As you see, biden's disasterresponse just just straight up
lies as you see, ideally withthe governor.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
That governor needs to.
He's been trying to get themand I'm sure they're going to
come through.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
But he's been calling the president hasn't been able
to get him, but I just spoke.
The president just called meyesterday afternoon.
I missed him and called himright back and he just said hey,
what do you need?
And I told him you know, we gotwhat we need.
We'll work through the federalprocess.
He offered that if there'sother things, we need just to
call him directly, which Iappreciate that.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
Yes, absolutely.
Wow, the Trump is just willingto outright oh wait, that's what
he does regularly, every singleday, every single time, nearly
that he opens his mouth.
No, just trying to outright ohwait, that's what he does
regularly, every single day, every single time, nearly that
he opens his mouth.
Uh, no, just trying to lie likeyeah, well, super conservative.
Uh, governor brian camp isobviously a liberal show well,

(16:24):
yeah, it's, he's like trying toblame biden for some seeming
lack of disaster response.
Governor Kemp is like actuallyno, I was, I was talking to
Biden every day here he's.
He's been on board now a lot ofpeople.
So I live in Tennesseecurrently and of all the
governors who have been affectedby the hurricane, they issued a

(16:46):
state of emergency at least acouple of days before landfall
at the earliest.
My state was the only one torequest aid from the federal
government after the fuckingstorm created a disaster and
people were trying to blamePresident Biden for that.
I'm like you know what?

(17:06):
Biden can't actually really doanything until the governor
requests help from the federalgovernment.
So, and you know, the right-wingnut jobs are out here trying to
blame biden for lack ofresponse here in tennessee.
No, it's actually my, mystate's, idiot moron of a
governor, his fault for notwatching the fucking news, like

(17:28):
everyone knew.
We look, you could just likelook at the map.
It's got like the hurricanepath and it's like all the way
from florida through georgia andtennessee and north carolina
and you could see it and likethe fact that this fucking moron
waited to like half the statewas in dire straits and to ask
for federal assistance.

(17:49):
It's just, I mean, look, that'swhat you have to look forward
to if you vote for a republican.
If there's any sort of incidentgod forbid, some kind of
disaster they're going to leaveyou to die.
I'm just telling you that forsure, for fact, and like you can
look at project 2025 like oneof the plans I think getting rid
of fema um, they're.

(18:09):
You know, they're treating itlike they said what leftists
wanted to do to the police in2020.
They're going to defund it.
And you know, again, theseclimate disasters are only
getting worse and worse and thenmore and more frequent.
So, yeah, if you want to live, vote for Kamala Harris.
I guess that's really your onlyoption.
Live vote for Kamala Harris.

(18:33):
I guess that's really your onlyoption.
And like these people who havetheir like single issue or
whatever, for whatever reason, they don't feel as though they
can vote for Kamala Harris, I'mlike, hey, man, it's all this
other important stuff in theworld that will literally affect
you if you choose to not votein the election in November and
if Trump wins it's, it's goingto be deleterious to you and not
only you, everyone that youknow and possibly all the entire

(18:55):
United States.
So, you know, get your shittogether.
But speaking of like you knowthe ideal response to a natural
disaster like a hurricane, herewe have Jesse Waters from Fox

(19:15):
News giving Kamala Harris adviceon how she should handle the
impact from Hurricane Helene.

Speaker 4 (19:26):
What I recommend her doing is maybe you get a little
paper towel like this, like hedid in Puerto Rico.
That's what the people want.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
He means his viewers, though not he wants that.
He's the people.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
Yeah, let's not actually throw the fucking paper
towel at hurricane victims like.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
Jesse Waters.
If you see Jesse Waters, offerhim some, some paper towels in a
in a non violent way.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
I mean that's, that's an option, but yeah, look, you
know, numerous people have diedfrom this fucking hurricane.
It has been an under disaster.
I think it's something likeclose to 120 million, or rather
120 billion, with the b dollarsin damage so far, and you know

(20:17):
who knows what the actual totalnumber will be.
Uh, over the course of the nextcouple of weeks, as we get, uh,
relief and aid in and clean upafter this horrific disaster,
and the idea that, like you know, following trump's lead from
when he was president in 2017,where he didn't do anything for

(20:37):
puerto rico, but go down thereand throw the throw that paper
towel roll of paper towels atthe people, it's fucking
disgusting, like, it'sabsolutely asinine, like.
First, not only are they lyingabout, let them eat cake, sorry,
yeah, yeah let them eat papertowels.
Let them eat, uh what?
Brownie or something, I don'tknow, downy um it would.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
it's kind of like if um, after after the French
Revolution, like MarieAntoinette, still alive Friends
in exile are making jokes tolike poor people about.
They're making like the samejoke and they're like what?

Speaker 1 (21:21):
This is yeah, it's off the rails.
No, but the idea that JesseWaters would even suggest that,
when we know that people aresuffering in the way that they
are is absurd.
The second we knew this wasgoing to be some kind of
horrific event and, given thenature and strength of the storm

(21:49):
and the trajectory and thelikelihood that it was just
resulted massive down, just likethese people, man, we, we gotta
get them the fuck out of here.
Cut off.
Your fox news is if you watchthis.
I mean, I guess, if you'relistening to this podcast,
there's absolutely no way thatyou're listening to fox news or
watching fox news for thatmatter.
But guess, if you're listeningto this podcast, there's
absolutely no way that you'relistening to Fox News or
watching Fox News for thatmatter.
But definitely if you live in ared state.

(22:11):
Just look at what kind ofabsurd shit is going on here and
then, like Republicans, againin the middle of a disaster,
just voted to shut down thegovernment just a couple of
weeks ago, which really wouldhave handicapped any kind of
federal response in getting aidto these people and saving then
they would just be like, well, our hands are tied.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
The democrats wouldn't allow our innocuous
bill about not letting womenvote if their passport doesn't
match their birth certificatesomething like that, but yeah
something like that.
I was conflating it withanother thing, that's.

Speaker 1 (22:46):
OK, there's a million insane issues that Republicans
are making a priority overactually doing anything good for
the American people.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
I just want to mention.
You said you know if you're ina red state, I don't want my our
blue state friends to forgetyou also need to vote.
Don't think like it's a surething in your state for
president.
Don't think like it's a surething in your state for
president.
It might be, but like I live inwhat is supposed to be a pretty
blue district and we currentlyhave a Republican congressman, I
don't know if people just gottoo complacent last time or yeah

(23:18):
, that's what happened.

Speaker 1 (23:19):
Well, part of it is that also the redistricting
probably didn't help help youguys either.
And then a bit of complacency, but again, so if you do live in
a blue state, obviously having apresidential election is
probably going to help boostturnout in that regard.
But again, if we had taken 2022seriously in just a handful of

(23:43):
states, largely Florida and NewYork, we could have had control
of the House.
But I mean, I guess a lessonlearned, yeah, so treat the 2024
election.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
I was taking it seriously, not you.
But I can still only vote theonce.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
I'm talking about just generally the royal.
We weren't taking it seriously.
But lesson learned.
So if you do happen to live ina blue state, don't treat that
as some kind of excuse not toturn out and vote, because there
are other elections down ballotthat matter.
You know your governor's races, senate races, perhaps also the

(24:20):
house of representatives is inplay, so make sure you turn out
and vote for that Judges make ahuge yeah and you have a state
Senate.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
I got a DA race right now.
We got lots of stuff.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
Yeah, your state legislatures.
They make well, they matter alot.
They're a huge deal and, considering what Republicans are
possibly planning for theelection in terms of cheating,
your state legislation might, orstate, yes, your state
legislature might be thedifference between Kamala Harris
winning the presidency orRepublicans cheating in hand

(24:54):
against Trump.
But also, if you live in aswing state, obviously, when it
comes to president, your vote issuper important, because you
were literally the only thingsaving us from hell, destruction
and, well, a real life versionof the purge.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
So absolutely turn out to vote in that regard and
obviously, and remember, sinceyou're in a swing state, it's
going to fall.
Your state will fall fasterRight.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
Yeah, the odds are the more of you in swing states.
If you turn out to vote andhelp Kamala Harris win by a
landslide in your state, theless likely it is for them the
Republican Party to effectivelycheat and steal your vote.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
And if you're a blue dot in a red state, or purge you
or let you get blown away orflooded.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
Yes, there are any number of ways in which letting
republicans uh take control ofthe federal government disease
for which we have a vaccineavailable.
Yeah, uh, any number of anynumber of, yeah, any number of
ways in which, if republicanstake control of the federal
government or your state, thatyou could die miserably health
care that is available yeah, yeah, absolutely.

(26:08):
Um, so about abortion care?
Yes, your vote is importantthere, and if you live in a red
state and you're a blue dot, don't think your vote isn't
important there, because anumber of you could largely be
the reason why, even thoughtrump might win your state,
republicans might lose the Houseor the Senate.
So it's absolutely vital toturn out to vote in November and

(26:30):
make things happen, because weneed every single vote.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
Some of you have some pretty sick ballot initiatives
too.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
Yeah, Florida, we're looking at you, of course, with
the abortion rights andlegalization of marijuana on the
ballot.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
Uh, I don't know why you're there voting.
To get to voting with yourstoner stoniness and to for your
free joints, throw a, throw a.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
Throw a vote in there for kamala I don't think you
get free weed you just.
It just becomes legal.
But also, you know, arizonahere's looking at you guys.
You have abortion access on theballot as well.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
New York was given out joints in exchange for COVID
vaccines a few years ago.

Speaker 1 (27:13):
Yeah, that was probably an effective method of
getting people to show up andget vaccinated.
Yeah, instead of having to takelike some Advil afterwards
because your arm is sore, youjust fire up a blunt.
It was a joint.
Or joint.
I mean you.
You know you got to be like Ididn't get them.

(27:35):
I had already been vaccinated Idon't know what type of
community you're typicallyassociating with, but the
individuals I typicallyassociate with who engage in the
smoking of cannabis generallyroll blunts, yes, um okay, well,
if they were handed a freejoint for getting a vaccine,
where are you telling me they'regonna unroll it and roll it

(27:57):
into a blunt?
I've never met a pothead.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
Who is that?

Speaker 1 (28:00):
no, they're absolutely gonna smoke it, but I
was just saying that typically, the preference there in order
would be like blunt at the topof the list and then somewhere
down lower would be joint um,but in terms of the landscape
and what it looks like forrepublicans winning the 2024
election.

(28:20):
I'm sure a lot of you out thereare checking out the polls and
one of the things you're goingto see regularly here is polling
averages, and I'm going toadvise you to stay away from
anyone who's using pollingaverages, and here's the reason
why so recently um according tosome really bad polls and they

(28:41):
still average into the numberyes, so yeah that's.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
Can you put it in a song?

Speaker 1 (28:48):
I don't know if I like there's not as clear an
obviously fitting song uh forthe polling averages as there
were for hurricanes.
Uh, in in september, um, shoutout to earth, wind and fire
y'all, Y'all crushed it withthat.
So, according to some leakeddocuments, it was revealed that

(29:09):
Rasmussen polls you know thenotoriously super right leaning
polls despite what every otherlegitimate poll tends to say
there were documents revealedthat they basically are
coordinating with the Trumpcampaign and are working in
tandem, which is likely somesort of campaign finance
violation.
I'm sure the FEC shouldprobably look into that,

(29:35):
regardless of whether they willor not.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
I mean again like they're taking notes right now.
They're like oh shit.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
But beyond that, that just shows that Rasmussen and
this is one of the moreprominent right wing polls
they're just an arm of the Trumpcampaign, and the reason why
they're working with the Trumpcampaign and the reason why some
of their numbers are so skewedis, you'll likely see, like you
know, maybe Pennsylvania, perhaps most polls will have

(30:04):
Kamala Harris up by one, two, three, four points and Rasmussen
will have Trump up by three.
Well, one of the reasons whythey do this is because one of
the methods that have becomepopular in terms of using
polling data to quote unquotepredict elections is aggregating

(30:25):
the data inside of pollingaverages.
So you take a number of polls, you, you know, average them
together more or less, and thenyou take that number and that's
supposed to eliminate some ofthe noise that comes with the
issues arising from individualpolls, right?
Well, the way polls aretypically used by media now is

(30:49):
not to inform campaigns on howto effectively campaign better,
but to influence public opinion.
So if you have a poll or set ofpolls showing Trump losing by
four points, it'sextraordinarily debilitating for
that campaign's ability toconvince people to donate to
them.
It depresses turnout in theelection, Like it.

(31:12):
If it looks like it's certaindefeat, then a number of
supporters typically won't showup at the polls.
So one of the ways tocounteract that is to introduce
these.
They're cooked like they.
They cook up these polls thatshow more right-wing support
than actually exists, theyintroduce these to the pollsters
who do the aggregation andvoila, you've magically somehow

(31:36):
shifted what would have been aharris advantage plus four per
se to now a harris advantageplus one, because you've
introduced polls like Rasmussenper se and a number of other
right wing funded polls that arebasically intended to affect
public perception.
So what I would say largely isthat's just what.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
I said, and I'm much more articulate I do okay
sometimes.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
So what I would say is, if you're looking at the
polls just to get an idea ofwhere things are and where to
send, you know, donate yourmoney to these races, down
ballot or where you think thecampaign should be spending its
money.
Stay away from anyone usingpolling averages and absolutely
stay away from anyone that'sspecifically including Rasmussen

(32:30):
polls in their polling averages, because, as we just explained
to you, their polls are cookedand it's basically right-wing
propaganda coming straight fromthe Trump campaign.
And that especially includesNate Silver, formerly of
FiveThirtyEight, who got firedby his own company.
Fuck that guy.
And that concludes this episodeof Pardon the Insurrection.
