Parents.
Hello and welcome back toParenting Powerhouse by

bottle feeding.

(00:20):
Today's episode is all abouttips and tricks to make bottle
feeding a smooth experience foryou and your baby.
Bottle feeding, whether withformula or breast milk, is a
great option that gives youflexibility and allows others to
help with feeding.
But, like everything inparenting, there's a bit of

(00:42):
learning to take care of.
So let's dive into some of thebest tips for bottle feeding
parents.
Let's start with choosing theright bottle and teat.
This can make all thedifference in how smoothly
bottle feeding goes.
Not all bottles and teats arecreated equal, and it might take
some experimenting to find theright fit for your baby.

(01:05):
Some babies prefer wide neckbottles that mimic the shape of
the breast, while others dobetter with standard, narrower
bottles.
As for the teats, they come indifferent flow rates, typically
ranging from slow to fast.
For newborns, starting with theslow flow teat is recommended

(01:25):
to prevent choking oroverwhelming them with milk.
Remember that your baby'spreference may change as they
grow, so don't worry if you needto change things up.
It's all about finding whatworks best for your little one.
Now let's talk about preparingthe bottle.
If you're using the formula, follow the instructions on the

(01:46):
package carefully to ensure thecorrect water to powder ratio.
Always mix freshly boiled watercooled to around 70 degrees
Celsius with the formula powder.
Boiling the water kills harmfulbacteria.
Let the bottle cool in a safetemperature before offering it

(02:08):
to your baby.
You can test the temperature byshaking a few drops on the
inside of your wrist.
It should feel warm, not hot.
If you're bottle feedingexpressed breast milk make sure
you handle it properly.
Breast milk make sure youhandle it properly.
Thaw frozen breast milk in therefrigerator overnight or use a

(02:28):
bowl of warm water to heat itgently.
Avoid using a microwave to heatbottles, as this can create hot
spots in the milk that couldburn your baby's mouth.
One of the most common concernswith bottle feeding is knowing
when your baby is full.
With breastfeeding, your babyoften self-regulates their

(02:49):
intake, but with bottle feedingit's easy to overfeed if you're
not careful.
A good rule of thumb is to feedyour baby when hungry and stop
when they show signs of beingfull.
When they show signs of beingfull.
Watch for cues like turningtheir head away, slowing down
their sucking or falling asleepduring the feed.

(03:10):
It's important to pace thefeeding to mimic breastfeeding.
Holding the bottle horizontallycan help slow the flow and give
your baby more control.
Speaking of pacing, bottlefeeding, positions are crucial
for both comfort and digestion.
Try to hold your baby in asemi-upright position rather

(03:33):
than lying flat, as this helpsprevent gas and reflux.
Support their head and neck andkeep the bottle at an angle
that fills the teat with milk, reducing the air intake as the
baby swallows.
After feeding, always burp yourbaby.
This helps release any trappedair and prevents discomfort.

(03:55):
One of the benefits of bottlefeeding is that it allows other
caregivers to participate infeeding your baby.
This can be especially helpfulif you need a break or want to
share the bonding experiencewith your partner, grandparents
or other siblings.
Ensure everyone knows how toproperly prepare, feed and clean

(04:19):
the bottles.
To ensure your baby's safety, sterilising bottles and teats is
incredibly important, especially during the first few
months of your baby's life, whentheir immune system is still
developing.
After every feed, wash bottles, teats and any other parts with
hot, soapy water or run themthrough the dishwasher if

(04:43):
they're dishwasher safe.
Once clean, sterilize them byboiling them in water for five
minutes or using a microwave orelectric steriliser that kills
any remaining bacteria andensures the bottle are safe for
your baby.
Bonding during bottle feedingFeeding time isn't just about

(05:05):
getting your baby fed.
It's also an excellentopportunity to bond, hold your
baby close, make eye contact andtalk or sing softly to them
while I feed.
This helps strengthen yourconnection and creates a
comforting experience for yourbaby.
Just like breastfeeding does.
Bottle feeding is a sharedexperience.

(05:26):
These little moments are justas important as feeding itself.
Combining breastfeeding andbottle feeding might make you
wonder how to balance the twowithout creating nipple
confusion.
The key here is to wait untilbreastfeeding is well
established before introducingthe bottle, usually around three

(05:47):
to four weeks of age.
Once you start bottle feeding, try to maintain a consistent
routine.
Alternate between breastfeedingand bottle feeding in a way
that works for you and your baby.
If you're concerned aboutnipple confusion, start with a
slow flow teat that mimics thebreast.
Nipple confusion start with aslow flow teat that mimics the

(06:10):
breast.
Finally, let's talk about nightfeeds.
Bottle feeding at night can bemore time consuming compared to
breastfeeding, especially if youmust prepare the bottle.
To make things easier, considerpreparing bottles in advance.
If you're using formula, youcan pre-measure the water and
formula powder, so all you haveto do is mix them when your baby

(06:32):
wakes up.
If you're using breast milk, have it ready in the fridge to
quickly warm when it is needed.
The goal is to streamline theprocess so you can get back to
sleep as soon as possible.
That wraps up today's episode onthe best tips for bottle
