Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yo, have you had your dose of pep today?
No, I've got you.
Yo, this is Coach Jay here witha very special episode of the
pep talk podcast.
I'm gonna call this a pep biteand I think I'm gonna start
doing these well, as much as Ican, just because I think that
sometimes middle of the week weneed a little bit of extra pep.

(00:22):
And I wanna be able to providethat for you.
And the last time I did this Igot some really good feedback on
it.
So I wanna kind of keep on itand keep building from it, just
to come to you with just a briefmicro episode that I hope can
get you over the hump in yourweek and just shift some things
in you as you're moving from oneseason into the next.

(00:45):
And here's a message for today.
I recently saw a video from JayShetty, the masterful podcaster,
interviewer you knowmindfulness guy and he said this
.
He said that self-worth comesfrom doing hard things.

(01:05):
Self-worth comes from doinghard things.
Let's think about that for asecond.
We're often on this kick aboutself-love and loving ourselves
and you know all of these things.
And we often say you know, you've heard the saying we can
do.
You can do hard things.

(01:25):
We say that a lot, especiallywith growth mindset, but this
whole idea that self-worth comesfrom hard things, I think
that's next level, because thereis a portion of self-worth that
comes from a confidence that wehave to have in ourselves, and
for many of us, for many of us,we have not yet proven to

(01:46):
ourselves that we can do thethings that we believe that we
can and that we should believethe things about ourselves that
we can.
Like if I tell myself we'regonna get in better shape, self,
we're gonna get in better shape.
I've done this before.
So if we're gonna get in bettershape, we're gonna start
getting up and going to the gymthree times per week.
And then Monday comes, I don'tget up and I'm like, okay, self,

(02:09):
we missed this, we missedMonday, or we're still gonna go
Wednesday and Friday.
Okay, wednesday cups nope, didn't make it.
Self, we're gonna go Friday.
I didn't go.
What's happened?
I have lied to myself threetimes and so, as a result, the
next time I say, okay, self,we're gonna get in shape, my

(02:32):
enemy has no reason to believethat we're actually going to do.
But we said that we're gonna do.
So there becomes this cognitivedissonance that happens on the
inside of us, when we've lied toourselves so many times, when
we've made promises to ourselvesso many times.
And so think about this wholeidea of self worth.

(02:54):
What am I really worth to me?
Am I worth enough to me to tellthe truth to myself about
myself?
Am I worth enough to myself togo through the hard things, to
go through the season ofrejection where the things that

(03:14):
I really want to happen, everydoor is closed, every avenue is
blocked and every person that Iencounter keeps telling me no?
Am I worth enough to myself tofight through those hard things,
to learn what I can from thosehard things and just to find a
way to take one step and then totake another step?
See, I know somebody's listeningto this and you are in a season

(03:41):
of life where you don't thinkthat your dreams are ever gonna
come true.
Your confidence may be at anall time low because the things
that you thought that you weregood at, nobody else believes
that you're good at.
Those things, the people thatyou've been desperately trying
to convince that you can do, thevery things that they keep
telling you know about, you'veallowed that to impact yourself

(04:03):
first.
But see, your self-worth is notabout them.
Your self-worth is about youanswering the question what am I
worth to me?
And see the way that self-worthis developed in doing hard
things.
It's in doing the hard thingsthat ultimately reveals what we
really think about ourselves.

(04:25):
So, no matter how many peoplehave told you know about this
thing that you believe thatyou're good at, are you worth
enough to yourself to find adifferent way?
Are you worth enough toyourself to continue believing
even though everybody outside ofyou has told you know?
Are you worth enough toyourself to tell yourself yes?

(04:47):
Because see, if self-worth isproven in hard times and in hard
seasons, too many of us havegiven up at the exact moment
where our worth to ourselvesshould have told us.
Just to take one more step, justto have one more affirmation,
just to do one more hard thing, just to get up one more morning

(05:09):
and go to the gym, even though Ihaven't seen any results yet,
just to go on one more audition, even though nine auditions
prior I've just been told,though.
Just to pitch to one morecustomer, even though 30
customers prior have told me no,am I worth enough to myself?
Is my belief worth enough tomyself to go through the hard
time, to go through the hardseason and refuse to allow my

(05:33):
value to myself.
Come on somebody to refuse toallow my worth to myself to be
impacted by people who don'tbelieve in me like I believe in
me.
I dare you to be worth enoughto yourself to believe in you
when nobody else believes in you, and don't just believe in you

(05:55):
as a theological discourse or aphilosophical exercise.
I dare you to believe enough inyourself to have enough worth
to yourself in those hard timesto continue to take the kind of
action that's going to get youwhere you want to go, put a seat

(06:16):
.
In the end of things, the onlyfuel that you need to get you
over this obstacle and over thishump is just to believe that
you can and that you are worthenough to yourself to keep going

(06:37):
.
Because Jay Shetty is right.
He's proven in the hard times, and if I know anything about you
is that you were made for hardtimes like this.
All right, so that's your petbite to get you through the rest

(06:59):
