World of Warcraft's upcoming player housing system in the Midnight expansion offers unprecedented creative freedom with both basic and advanced decoration modes. The feature includes complete customization of interior elements with color options, wall placement, and size manipulation.

• Basic mode provides grid-based placement with collision detection for quick, intuitive decorating
• Advanced mode removes restrictions, allowing floating objects and placement on any axis
• Players can dye furniture colors, change wallpaper, flooring, and ceiling styles to match any theme
• Interior size is independent of exterior appearance – tiny cottages can contain mansions inside
• Objects can be creatively repurposed – bushes as garlands, paint buckets as spice racks
• The system includes generous resource limits with approximately 10,000 decorative assets allowed
• Blizzard will share more information about exterior customization and neighborhoods in future updates

Go with valor, friend, and keep checking our socials and Etsy shop for more World of Warcraft content and merchandise!

Hope you all enjoy and hope you relate to any of these stories. And I will speak to you all in the next episode!

Speaker 1 (00:45):
The do.
Hello and welcome to the Pigand Whistle Tales from Azeroth.
As always here at the Pig andWhistle Inn in Stormwind, I go
for a variety of subjects withregards to World of Warcraft, so
grab a bottle or a pint pint, sit back and enjoy this episode.

(01:06):
We're going to be looking morein depth at player housing.
So there's been a couple or,more importantly, a big update
on this and it goes into alittle bit of depth as to what
is going to happen with theplayer housing.
Now, remember that playerhousing is something that is
going to be happening withinworld of warcraft midnight
expansion.
That is coming to be happeningwithin World of Warcraft
Midnight expansion.
That is coming at the end ofthis year, so it's really not

(01:29):
that far away.
It's several months away.
If that, it might come in thepre-patch.
Who knows when it will be outfully, but this is what the post
says.
So we will obviously do theweekly news as always.
We have Orta, the BrokenMountain, as your world boss for
the week, as well as theGobfather.
These are located within theirrespective zones in Ashkahet as

(01:55):
well as I've forgotten theUndermine.
That's the one.
They are located, obviously, giving away gear sort of gold
bits and bobs.
Make sure that you do them forthe week.
Mists of Pandaria Time Walkingis your bonus event for the week
.
This is very much.
You just do Mists of PandariaDungeons and you get currency in

(02:16):
order to buy mounts, cosmetics, pets, etc.
And Temple of Hotmogu is yourbrawl for the week and temple of
hot mogu is your brawl for theweek.
What this brawl entails isessentially the orbs that are in
the temple of kot mogubattleground.
They are ramped up, so they do.
They give you a lot more haste, and or the battleground itself

(02:38):
is just more haste like a shitton more haste, all right.
So it's a good, funbattleground.
Definitely worth doing it oncefor the win and to get the
conquest and honor.
But let us jump into the bluepost essentially.
So getting down to basics, decoration has two primary modes

(02:59):
basic and advanced.
You can freely toggle betweenthem at any time while
decorating with a key press Verysimple.
So what do each of these modesdo?
Basic mode allows you toquickly place or remove objects
and move them around whilekeeping their movements somewhat
constrained to make puttingsomething together quick and

(03:22):
easy.
It has a number of rules inplace to help with this.
Decor can be moved around on theground and will move on top of
things as it bumps into them, ordown to the ground as they
reach the edge.
This lets you move around andmake them interact in an
expected way.
Very simple Decor can berotated around its up axis, with

(03:44):
rotation snapping to 15 degreesincrements, so objects don't
accidentally unalign with otherobjects as you rotate them.
So this is very simple.
This is you have a grid on thefloor and essentially it is
going to follow this grid.
It's going to snap to this gridthat is on the floor and it

(04:04):
makes it so that everythingisn't going to be colliding with
one one another.
You can't put an item insidesomething else.
Um, what this means isessentially, you can't put a
table inside of a chair.
You know that kind of deal.
Um, yeah, it's basically thatdecor has collision with other

(04:27):
pieces of decor, as well as thefloor, wall and ceilings, and
players are unable to move decorthrough other things.
No, losing things in walls.
Very simple, uh, decor willallow the floor, wall or ceiling
, depending on what sort ofdecor is.
Eg, a rug will align with thefloor, which makes sense, while
a painting will align with thewall if you move it around a

(04:51):
corner, it will continue toalign properly.
This also means decor will snapto the ground if you move it
off of something very, verysimple.
Okay, um, certain types ofsmalleral will parent to certain
types of larger ones.
Um, when placed on top of them.
This means that you, when youmove the larger piece, the

(05:13):
smaller moves with it.
This allows you to, for example, place uh books on a bookshelf
and then move the whole shelfinstead of having to move
everything individually.
This is very good becauseotherwise this would have been
very, very tedious and somethingthat would have been frowned
upon on launch.
I'm glad that they've thoughtof this.

(05:33):
Um, players can show a gridwhich enables snapping, which
will snap decorations to thepoints on the grid, helping you
keep everything neat and tidy.
It will even shrink down whenyou're placing something on a
smaller surface, like a table.
So this means that, um, like Isaid before, this is kind of

(05:53):
like what they do with the editmode in world of warcraft, where
you can basically show a gridand you can get elements of your
ui to snap to it, which isreally good and, from what I
perceived there, if you put likea book or like a plate on a
table.
It will shrink down.
So it will originally be quitebig, but if you're trying to put

(06:15):
it on like a small table oranywhere like that, then it will
almost scale down to a certainsize, which is very good as well
.
The advanced interior design isas follows um, but that's so
restrictive.
We hear you saying don't worry, just switch to advanced mode
and feel the true power at yourfingertips.

(06:36):
Advanced mode effectively turnsoff all a lot of rules of basic
mode, but also offers upadditional tools of its own as
well.
So this means you can dowhatever you want with certain
items.
If you want to put a chair inthe middle of your table and

(06:57):
it's like phased in the middleof your table, go for it,
genuinely go for it.
That is ridiculous.
So decor has no collision inadvanced mode.
Want to push a chair into awall?
Enjoy, you can literally dothis, and I think that this is
very good because it allowspeople to be super, super
creative.
It allows you to put sort ofmaybe a hanging, sort of uh

(07:20):
building, almost so almost anupside down building actually.
So you build your entire house, but you build it upside down.
Some people might want to dothat, and I think that's a very
cool idea actually, now that I'mthinking about it.
So there are many differentaspects that you can do to this
and I think that it's reallycool that they have allowed this

(07:40):
.
Essentially, now they they alsohave.
You can enable gimbals like 3Dcontrols on objects, which let
you move objects on all threeaxis, including floating them in
the air, without having to jumpthrough hoops.
So, like I said, you can justkeep things floating if you
really really wanted, withoutany sort of restrictions, and

(08:03):
you can make an upside downhouse.
Essentially, this will allow youto make an upside down house,
and I kind of like it.
I really do kind of like it,mainly because I think that a
lot of people can be creative inthis way.
I think that there's going tobe so many creative ways that
people make their house and Ihonestly cannot wait.

(08:29):
I really cannot wait until Isee so many people's designs
doing these creative designs ontheir house.
They're building stuff likethat I wouldn't even dream of,
and I think that giving thepeople the freedom that they
need is really really good, andI'm glad that they did that

(08:50):
early on and have addressed thatearly on, rather than obviously
launch it and then be like, ohshit, we haven't given you guys
any sort of like freedom in whatyou want to do.
So he go like we'll add it nextexpansion or something, and
it's been like, oh well, that'skind of put a dampener on it,
hasn't it?
So hopefully they do look intothat a bit more and they make it

(09:15):
as flawless as they can.
Obviously, some people will tryand break the game with the
advanced mode, but that's notthe idea.
The idea is to be very creativewith it, and I think that's
what people want and I thinkthat's what Blizzard are going
for genuinely.
So a gimbal is a pivotedsupport that permits rotation of
an object about an axis.

(09:37):
This means that you can turn it90 degrees on its x-axis,
y-axis, stuff like that, whichmakes sense.
A different gimbal can be usedto rotate an object freely on
any axis, which is really good.
So if you want it diagonally, you still can as well as.
Finally, finally, a thirdgimbal can scale an object's

(09:58):
size up and down, um, withinsome generous limits, making
something smaller or giant.
I'm very concerned at how bigthey're gonna make some of these
things.
Is there just gonna be a giantroom with one chair in there or
something.
That's going to be really weird, I don't know.
Look, I'm glad they're givingyou a lot of freedom on it and I

(10:21):
think that it's very, very good.
Um, advanced mode lets youinteract and design things with
a very specific controls to makewhether your uh whatever your
heart desires Internally usingthis.
Employees had taken bushes andmade them into a garland for
their fireplaces that's reallycool.

(10:43):
Constructed a boat pro from abed Okay.
Or made paint buckets intosmall spice racks for their
kitchens Oh's really cute.
I like that idea.
So this shows kind of just acouple of things that you can do
with it, and the next part isactually really cool.
We've been dying for housing.

(11:05):
In addition to the decorationmode, we wanted to call out some
of the other functionalitiesand choices we've made, some
because they're cool and worthsharing, and others because they
directly answer some of thequestions we've seen since the
first article went up.
For newly created assets asopposed to legacy ones from
existing art, we're allowingplayers to dye them in a variety

(11:28):
of colors.
So if you find a chair, uh, butwish to, but wish the
upholstery was blue instead ofgray, you can make that change.
But what if the blue doesn'tmatch the same wood in the color
of the metal?
Now, well, you can fix that aswell, so you can have an entire
color theme, it seems, for yourplayer housing, which is really

(11:49):
really good.
And again, it's something thatI think is needed, because it
needs to be so creativelyfreedomed that people aren't
upset about it, because there'salways going to be someone that
is going to cry because it'slike oh my god, I can't change
the color of my plant pot orsomething, something absolutely

(12:09):
ridiculous.
But it seems as though they'rethinking of everything to allow
you to change, and I think thatthis is very good.
It gives you so much freedom todo so.
So they go on.
But that's not all.
It's not just decorations youcan use to customise your space,
but the wallpaper, ceiling andflooring as well.
You can mix and match these toelicit various cultures and

(12:33):
vibes, or just make up your own.
You can take things a stepfurther, to to partition objects
, to build walls where none werebefore.
Let's do you make rooms witharbitrary, arbitrary interiors.
So the best way that I candescribe this they do have a
picture, so it does help.
But best way I can describethis is imagine you're playing

(12:55):
Sims For those that don't knowif you play Sims and you want to
build your own house, you gointo this sort of bird's eye
view mode and you place whereyou want the walls to be.
So you've got a grid and youplace a wall.
So you say, I place a wall fivesquares up and then five
squares to the right.
You have right angle there, yeah, and then you want to go at

(13:18):
a diagonal.
So this is what allows you todo.
You're just building thesewalls as and where you want,
which is really really cool, andthis is what they're allowing
you to do.
They're allowing you to buildit, your sort of house, to lay
out as you want it, as youalways want it, and I think it's
something that I'm going tospend hours doing genuinely,

(13:43):
whether I'm in an arena queue,I'm going to just be decorating
my house or something andchilling there because I might
be able to have some music thatI can just play in my humble
abode, essentially within Worldof Warcraft.
Look, it's going to be amazing.
I love that.
You can design the flooring, theceiling, the wallpapers,

(14:06):
absolutely everything.
It's not just.
You get a four by four house, enjoy.
It's split into four rooms.
You know, you can put a setteethere, you can put a tv or a
fireplace there.
You know, even though I don'tthink they have tvs and well, I
don't think they do you can puta painting there instead and of
a tv.
Um, so I'm glad that they'reallowing you to be very creative

(14:26):
with this and I think that it'samazing.
Speaking of mixing matching, wesaw a lot of questions around
what would be allowed in termsof decor inside your home.
You can decorate however youwant.
So if you want blood elfwallpaper with a stone roof and
wooden floor, go for it.
Um, yeah, I'm so glad that theyare allowing, so they are

(14:50):
essentially allowing you everysingle asset that is within the
game, I believe.
I believe that it's verynon-restrictive.
Um, there are obviously going tobe maybe a couple things that
you go out into the world tounlock and and I think that this
is something that they shoulddo, in my honest opinion, they
shouldn't make it tough.
They shouldn't make it tough toobtain.

(15:10):
It should just be somethingvery simple.
Like you have to go andcomplete a Warlords of Draenor
raid, you have to go andcomplete Heimel and you get this
decoration unlocked you knowthat kind of deal or you have to
do five battlegrounds or fivesmall dungeons or like normal
dungeons, you know anythingalong them lines.

(15:31):
I think that this is whatshould allow the game to keep
having an evergreen feeling, because you keep adding stuff
behind older content that somepeople might not have ever seen
or been to or known has like hasbeen there in the past.
So I think that it's very goodand something that is needed.

(15:51):
It's very, very much needed, and I'm glad that they are
allowing you to be as freelysort of expressive as you want
within the player housing sortof idea.
So before we go outside inbrackets, while we're not really
talking about exteriors in thisarticle, it's worth mentioning
that the outside size of yourhouse has no bearing on how big

(16:14):
the interior is.
If you want a huge mansionoutside with just one room
inside or a tiny shack on theoutside but a dozen rooms inside
, you do.
You.
We'll share more about theexteriors from your or your home
later, though.
Um, so my idea is obviouslyhave a nice little comfy house

(16:36):
and then you put like a littlefarm or something.
I really hope that they allowyou to put like a stables or
something like that on theoutside, on like your property,
almost, because that will giveit a sort of more neighborhood
feeling, because a lot of peoplewill have differences there,
and I think that it's going tobe very cool.
Um, there's much more to discusswith decorations.

(16:56):
Where do we get stuff?
How do I show off my collectionfor transmogs, pets and mounts?
How do professions fit in andmore, never mind neighborhoods
and we can't wait to share more.
Please keep sending us yourfeedback and we'll keep building
, but in the meantime, here'sanother screenshot a team member
made, mixing some variousstyles and, honestly, the

(17:17):
pictures that they've providedin this blue post are absolutely
amazing.
It's good to see that it looksquite well, complete, like
genuinely.
It looks very far along playerhousing, with us just knowing
about it a couple months ago, almost.
So I'm really, really glad thatit looks quite complete.

(17:39):
It doesn't look like oh, we'vegotten one picture of like one
room.
We've gotten video footage ofhow it all works, we've got
multiple images of how stuff islooking, building and all of
that, and I think that it'sgoing to be absolutely amazing.
I think that what you need to dois maybe allow people to

(17:59):
transmog in their own homes withlike a wardrobe or something.
Maybe do that, I don't knowit's.
You could do so much with this.
You could do so so much.
I'm guessing that there's goingto be.
Now look in the pictures thereis a resource meter and I don't

(18:20):
know what these resource metersare.
I think it's something to dowith like how many assets you've
had like on the property.
So within the grid that you'reallocated you're allowed.
It looks like 10,000 things.
So this can be 10,000 smallbooks, it can be 10,000 chairs

(18:41):
if you really wanted.
But I think this is a verygenerous amount because, from
what I see, a lot of thebuilding that's happened, it's
got a lot in it and it's at like500 sort of assets out of
10,000.
I think it's a very generousamount of assets that you can

(19:03):
use on your property so itdoesn't sort of blow up every
server, I guess.
But look, it's really promising.
It's looking really, reallypromising.
Going forward for player housing, and I've already got who I'm
going to be building in aneighborhood with.
I've already got an idea ofwhat I want the house to look
like.
I've got an idea of the themesof it and I think that a lot of

(19:27):
people will enjoy this.
This is going to be a placewhere people come along to their
own little wow house.
They do dungeon queues, they doarena queues, they just chill.
They have vibes that you know.
It's going to be amazing and Ihonestly cannot wait for it.
I think it's going to be one ofthe best features that they've
ever added into the game andit's an evergreen feature, so

(19:48):
they can keep on adding to itforever, essentially.
But let me know what you guysthink Is Player Housing going to
be?
You know all that it's crackedup to be?
I certainly think so, but somepeople might not like it.
That's fair enough.
You don't have to do anythingwith this.
It's something that a lot likeit.
That's fair enough.
You don't have to do anythingwith this.
It's something that a lot ofpeople have wanted, though, so
it's going to be something thatbrings people back.

(20:09):
That's the main goal, I think,and I think that that's fair
enough.
If your main goal is to playwell so that you can build your
own house, I think go for it.
All the more power to you forit.
But thank you all very much forlistening.
I thank, uh.
Do check out all of the socialsdown below, constant stuff
happening, as well as the etsyshop, multiple things going on

(20:31):
up there each day, each week, etc.
So keep checking them out.
But thank you all very muchonce again and go with valor
friend.
Goodbye all, goodbye-o, thankyou.
