Speaker 1 (00:45):
Thank you, hello and welcome to the Pig and Whistle
Tales from Azeroth.
As always here at the Pig andWhistle Inn in Stormwind, I go
through a variety of subjectsWith regards to World of
Warcraft.
Take on a bottle or a pint, sitback and enjoy this midweek

(01:07):
episode.
We're going to be looking at afew bits and pieces.
I know the undermined has comeout this week, but I'm eu, so as
of when this episode goes live,I wouldn't have played much of
it, so I can't really give mytake on it yet, but that will be
friday's episode, okay, so ifyou're looking for that, please
do wait until Friday, because Ireally can't give a in-depth

(01:28):
sort of analysis or my thoughtsand opinions on it until Friday.
I do apologize, but hey, we'reEU man.
What can you say?
There's not much you can say,and they just have it better.
You know, um, but we will begoing over a few bits and pieces
, um, ranging from season ofdiscovery all the way to retail.

(01:48):
Um, let, yeah, let's just jumpstraight into it.
So the first one that I'm goingto address is gatekeeping in
raids.
This is a problem in mostversions of world of warcraft
classic season of discovery, cataclysm, I would say less so
in retail.
I would say that these are themain three culprits.

(02:09):
I would say so.
This person has a problem withit saying as fun as SOD is, I'm
a little disappointed with howcomplicated it is to simply raid
and get gear.
Too many hoops to jump through,add-ons to download and toxic
people to cooperate with, in myopinion, makes raids not worth
it.
I guess I've peeked at reelsruns.

(02:30):
Oh, they're the um tarnishedcoins.
Why am I barred from content Ipay for?
Okay.
You are not barred for contentyou play for.
Okay.
You are barred because of theplayer base.
So you can go into any season ofdiscovery raid, any classic
raid, any cataclysm classic raid, even retail raids to some

(02:54):
extent, and have no add-ons.
You can have zero add-ons ifyou really wanted now, you might
die a lot and you might figureout the tactics a bit slower
than everyone else.
And you might die a lot and youmight figure out the tactics a
bit slower than everyone elseand you might be a lot more
lower on the DPS because you'renot having an add-on to tell you
what to do.
But you can do it.
The problem is people want youto have the add-on so there is a

(03:15):
smoother experience for theraid.
And this is the problem, because people think that you
getting add-ons will immediatelymake you the best player in the
world.
It does not.
I can tell you right now.
It does not.
That is not how this game works.
Add-ons are there to help youimprove your gameplay.
Yes, but you can still be justas shit at the game with add-ons

(03:37):
as without them.
Okay.
So, for example, there was a reppaladin in Classic that I know
of, like yes, he was a reppaladin in a classic that I know
of, like yes, he was a reppaladin.
He doesn't do much anyway, buthe was so bad and dumb when it
came to anything.
Dbm could tell him what to do,but he wouldn't do it.

(03:59):
Okay, it just wouldn't click inhis mind that he had to move
away from a beam.
Okay, c'thun, eye beam.
Yeah, it's a giant beam thatone shots you and it ticks
around the room very, veryslowly.
Very simple, right?
If it said eye beam and hestood right in front of the eye,

(04:19):
he would not move.
It would be like his brain ison dial-up.
Okay, add-ons do not help theplayer.
If the player is already bad,the player will not be saved by
the add-ons.
Add-ons just help betterplayers achieve more in a raid,
and don't get me wrong, it doeshelp, but they aren't necessary

(04:40):
for these sort of raids, okay, they really really aren't.
So, people who are gatekeepingsort of classic uh raid, season
of discovery, even cataclysmraids to an extent you need to
stop.
Okay, you need to get peoplewho are actually not.
They might not have even donethe raid, but they are probably

(05:00):
the better people to get thanpeople who have done the raid
genuinely and let add-ons tellthem what to do.
And raid leaders, because theymight not know, they just hear
move and they'll move.
Okay, they're like sheep,almost.
At least these players will beactive and really like alert
when certain mechanics happenand if they die to them, that's

(05:22):
fine, they've died to them, butthen they'll realize, oh, okay,
I shouldn't stand in thismechanic.
This is how I deal with it.
Very simple, it's like that.
Yeah, um, I have experiencedthis gatekeeping before in
season of discovery.
This season of discovery, gatekeeping is ridiculous.
By the way, the like content issome of the easiest content

(05:44):
ever and because it's classic.
Now this might be a bitdifferent with the kerosene
crips and like later contentcoming out like the scarlet
crusade stuff, but naxramas allthe way down to molten core.
It's relatively the same sortof content.
Now naxramas did get changedquite a fair bit, but I
experienced this back in MoltenCore.

(06:10):
So I did Molten Core the weekbefore and I got a binding for
it.
I actually did get a bindingfor my prop pallet and I did
this without any sort of issues.
Didn't come with world buffs, Icame with some consumables, but
that was about it.
I tanked it and I was in greens.
I was in greens, I was in likeblues and stuff.
I was decently geared, like forpre-rapist, but not great

(06:30):
geared.
Let's just say that.
So we did that and then all ofa sudden next week when I'm
putting together a run, we havesomeone who goes oh my god, I'm
not carrying this guy throughmolten core and it's like bro, I
literally did this already.
It's molten core.
The mobs hit like wet noodles.
As long as I get a decurse on ahealing reduction, I'm fine.

(06:50):
Like you have so many survivable, like you have so many things
to survive in season ofdiscovery raids.
It's crazy, like it'sabsolutely mental, that people
can think this way and it's likeoh my god, you need to be the
best kid ever in order toactually even play with me in
this raid, because this raid isreally intense and it's like,

(07:12):
bro, it's baron geddon.
You get a living bomb, you moveout, and then you don't go near
the patch that's on the ground.
You know he does a sort ofhellfire ability, you move out.
It's not rocket science, is it?
So the gatekeeping is bad, butI think that this is more
prominent in classic Season ofDiscovery and Cataclysm, because

(07:34):
these are the expansions orWorld of Warcraft versions that
need people to communicate.
For raiding, okay, it's verymuch, oh my God, looking for
more.
What is it?
Firelands for cataclysm?
And it's like, oh, okay, you 10out of 10 heroic.
And it's like, no, I'm wantingto just gear an alt.

(07:55):
But I am like 7 out of 10heroic.
And it's like, no, that's notgood enough.
You've got to be 10 out of 10,fully bis geared, need no gear
from it.
You need to have nothingrequired from firelands to join
our runs.
And it's like, great, yeah,whatever.
Same with season of discovery.
It's like, okay, are you fullymolten core, geared to go into
molten core?
And it's like no, no, I'm not.

(08:16):
Obviously I'm not.
Why would I need to go intomolten core if I'm fully molten
core geared, like that'sridiculous?
And then it's like, oh, sorry, you can't join them.
And it's like what is happening.
But the difference is peoplewant people with more gear so
that it's just oh, okay, quick,30 minutes into a raid, in and
out done.
That's what people want.

(08:37):
They want it to just be very, very quick the raid and it's
just ridiculous.
It really really is.
People need to get overthemselves when it comes to
picking people for raiding and Iget that.
You might get some every nowand again that might just fully
not understand and like are kindof bad at the game, but that's

(08:59):
fine, that happens.
Look, there's an example a fewweeks ago I had we need an extra
healer for molten core and wewere selling the embers for the
person because our emberscollector for the legendary
staff wasn't there.
That week we picked up a holypriest, which was really weird,
and they wanted the embers.

(09:19):
Okay, that's fine.
A couple of us were on ults, acouple of us were healing
tanking.
You know something that wedidn't really do.
These are off-rolls and stuff.
But after Elish Razor he hadn'tdone the tactics, so we went
through them with him, likebefore each boss, and we said,
yep, you understand, and he put, yes, I do.

(09:42):
Okay, he proceeded to do theentirely wrong tactics.
Okay, and yes, this isfrustrating.
I am raid leading as well aslike healing at the same time,
so I'm doubly frustrated.
But I have people who cananswer for me when it's like

(10:03):
okay, you need to make sure thatyou understand this, because I
get angry.
I, I do, but I can control thatto some extent anyway.
Um, so I have people in theraid who are a lot different in
personality to me and they'll belike okay, so you need to do
this, and like please make surethat you understand, because
instead I would have went okay, you said that you understood,

(10:25):
you didn't.
You're being fucking stupid, get yourself together.
You know that kind of deal.
These are the people that youneed in these situations.
Because he eventually did getit.
We eventually cleared the raidstill, and we eventually got
everything that we needed, whichis fine.
That's great.
It's just a bit more frustratingfor the raid leader, and I get
that people want fully geared, fully best you know, maximum

(10:49):
effort.
But sometimes you just got totake a chance and again it's
about the people you're playingwith.
Um, I still enjoyed the timeplaying because I was playing
with my guild.
Um, obviously, it puts a bit ofa dampener on it with that one
sort of priest or whatever, butit happens.
You know it happens and youjust keep going on.
You keep chunking through life,um, but yeah, people need to

(11:11):
stop gatekeeping.
This isn't a blizzard problem,this is a community problem.
It, straight up, is there isnothing blizzard can do about
that.
If people don't want you intheir raid because you don't
have a certain add-on or certaingear, blizzard can't do
anything about that.
It's their raid that they'remaking.
So fair enough, and you'rebeing barred for content you pay

(11:34):
for by the player base, not byblizzard itself.
You need to make sure that youknow this, and the response to
this, though, is a bit crazy.
So this is your gatekeepingyourself.
Raiding involves interactingwith other people and doing a
minimal amount of necessary prep.
If you don't want to do this, you have two options Start your

(11:55):
own raid or quit the game anddon't pay for something that you
don't enjoy.
Okay, basically no, becausehe's not gatekeeping himself.
Raiders and people who aremaking raids are gatekeeping
because they're offering up raidspots for people who are making
raids are gatekeeping becausethey're offering up raid spots
for people who are fullybescheared, fully like add-on

(12:16):
download and stuff.
You don't need add-ons to doraiding in, wow, you don't.
Maybe in like retail.
Yes, cataclysm, season ofdiscovery classic.
You don't.
You really, really don't.
I promise I can tell everysingle one of my raiders in
Cataclysm what to do exactly.
Okay, I can.

(12:36):
It's very simple.
They can listen to me and theywill not need any sort of
add-ons.
It's that simple.
I get for pugs it might bedifferent because you're not in
comms and stuff, but no, it'sthe player base that's
gatekeeping it, not himself.
That's a ridiculous take.
Now, next bit is a bit different.
These are returning players andsort of uh, newer players

(13:00):
discussions.
Now, this one's a bit confusingfor everyone, but I'm going to
go for it.
So, upgrading requests here ismy first season with the upgrade
system, which I like, but itcan be a little confusing.
This is very true.
This is very, very true.
We are near end of season and Ihave forward 619 gear, aside

(13:20):
from 363 636 item level weaponand a 626 trinket.
My other trinket is Mad Queen'sMandate, but only 606.
My other trinket is Mad Queen'sMandate, but only 606.
But with the low item level ithas been a huge help with things
like Zek'Fir and other solostuff.
Yeah, because it's very lowlevel.

(13:41):
Sorry if you can hear a dogbarking in the background.
That's nothing I can control.
Um, so this can be veryconfusing.
The upgrade system.
I have the other 619 trinket.
If I use crest upgrade that to66 also, does that unlock both
slots to be able to go to 626with Valor Stones?

(14:03):
If, say, I got a hero track, mad queen or other trinket I
want to use, I tried this macrobelow to only list one trinket I
want to use.
I tried this macro below but itonly lists one trinket and says
619.
I want to make sure I don'twaste probably my last 30 gilded
crests I will have for theseason.

(14:25):
So this macro is long butessentially the way that the
upgrade system works is you needtwo different currencies.
You need Valor Stones, whichyou get by doing any sort of
current content PvP, pve, delves, raids, dungeons, anything.
You get Valor Stones foranything and everything and you

(14:49):
need Crests.
There are three different typesof Crests.
There are ones that you earn Ithink four, but three are kind
of the important ones.
There are ones that you earnfor doing content, between
mythic plus one and plus four, mythic plus five and plus seven,
and then plus eight and above.
Okay, the higher item level youritem starts at is based on what

(15:15):
mythic or what content you didto get this item.
So if you did a looking forraid and you got a trinket, this
would be in the lower itemlevels to start with.
Okay, so this will be, let'ssay, 606.
It can go up to maximum.
If you were to do a plus or anormal, heroic or normal raid

(15:35):
sorry, I'll only just do it forraid purposes but if you were to
do a normal raid, you would geta 609 trinket, and this 609
trinket can be upgraded to 619item level and it would need a
certain crest.
Okay.
Now if you were to do heroicraid, you would get, let's say,

(15:59):
a 622 trinket and this would beable to go up to 630 item level.
Okay, and then mythic, youwould get a 633 trinket and it
can go up to 636.
These numbers aren't accurate,by the way, I know, but I'm not
really great with the pve sideof the item levels and what you

(16:20):
know when they drop and all ofthat, but you kind of get the
point.
So, with these different likebrackets, you need these
different types of crests to gowith it.
So the very first one, you'llneed the one to four mythic item
level crests.
Um, to upgrade the next one,you will need the five to seven.

(16:41):
The next one, you will need theeight to ten or something, and
then the next one you'll need 10plus.
Okay, so this is how it works.
It is a very complicated systemwhen you first look at it, but
when you get into it it's verysimple.
The item will say if it is acertain type of upgrade.

(17:04):
So it will say hero, or yeah,it will say like hero, champion,
veteran, something like thatand it will say one out of six.
Okay, these are the amount ofupgrades that you can give to
that item.
So once it's six out of six,you cannot upgrade it anymore.
No matter what.
You cannot, you will need toget a better item.

(17:24):
You need to get the same itemdropped at a higher item level
from a more difficult content inorder to upgrade this more.
So, for example, the queen'smandate trinket or whatever this
guy has is dropped from queenansarek.
If he did this on looking for.

(17:45):
Raid 606 is the highest itemlevel that he can get on this
trinket.
If he was to do this on normal, this trinket would drop at 609
item level and then be able toupgrade six times from this item
level.
So it can go up to 619 itemlevel.
But do you see where I'm gettingwith this?
It's a very complicated systembut some people need to

(18:08):
understand it to actuallyupgrade their gear and get like
different bits and bobs and getthe most out of it, because it
is quite complicated when youfirst look at it.
Once you get the hang of it,you understand.
You really do.
But it's kind of like thecrafting orders in dragonflight.
When it first started I had noidea what I was doing.

(18:28):
Same with, um, the war withinto a certain extent, because I
still had no idea, like how tomake these rings or anything
like that.
I just sort of guessed.
Okay, but it does work and youjust need to give it time so
that your brain can figure out, like how it works essentially.
But if this helps, please letme know, because it is a very

(18:52):
complicated system.
I get confused with it myselfsometimes.
I just hope that this helps, because there is a lot of people
out there who really don'tunderstand it, and it can be
annoying, it really can be.
Now, as for the next one, andprobably the last one we're
going to go to, I don'tunderstand the game anymore.

(19:12):
Okay, I've not read any of this, so this could annoy me.
Okay, this genuinely couldannoy me.
I played some back when wrathof the lich king was just coming
out.
Okay, when wrath of the lichking was just coming out.
So, 2008, this guy played.
Okay, keep Keep that in mind.
2008.

(19:33):
I never reached the end gamecontent.
Okay, so he never reached level80.
I think I leveled a characterto around 45 and I quit playing
45.
He didn't even get halfway.
Now you might say, oh, but 45is over halfway to level 80.
Yes, numbers-wise, but XP wiseand actual leveling wise, no,

(19:58):
because if you look at classicum, the xp, you needed to get to
level 60.
You got halfway around level 44or 46.
It was one of them too, so hewasn't halfway.
Um, I'm trying wow out again.
I know, I'm just confused.
I'm leveling a pandaren monkokay, good choice.

(20:18):
And as soon as I went out of thepandarian beginning area, I
have no idea where to go.
There's so much stuff inorgrimmar, what's on earth?
What on earth are timelines?
Is there some recommended wayto experience the story?
Do I even need to bother buyingthe war within until I've stuck
around to level 70?
There's just a lot going on andit seems, on it seems, and I'm

(20:42):
kind of lost, but I like all theraces and stuff that aren't
available in classic.
If there's a youtube video orarticle somewhere that explains
this stuff, or if someone canjust help orientate me, I would
be very appreciative.
Okay, so I thought this wasgoing to be like.
Oh, it wasn't as good as wrathof the lich king.

(21:02):
When I first played it in 2008,I thought it was going to be
like that, but this is a veryfair point.
When you log back into retail,it is is overwhelming.
It is very, very overwhelming, and I do understand that.
Firstly, timelines.
What timelines are is a way toexperience the expansion through

(21:23):
something called Chromie time.
What you do is you go talk toChromie who's in Orgrimmar or
Stormwind, whichever factionyou've picked, and essentially
you can pick any of theexpansions to level in.
So anywhere from Cataclysm, burning Crusade, wrath of the
Lich King, mists of Pandaria, warlords of Draenor, battle for
Azeroth, shadowlands andDragonflight.

(21:47):
Newer players will be sent toDragonflight, though I believe
immediately they don't get achoice in that new players will
be sent there, um, to sort ofcatch up with the story and
what's happened, kind of deal.
Now, this is how you will level.
Um, this is just what they calltimelines.

(22:08):
Okay, that's all it is.
All you need to know is thatthere isn't much.
It looks like there's a lothappening, but it doesn't happen
until end game.
Okay, so you can slowly pickthings up as you're leveling.
So, let's say, you start andyou go to missa pandaria to

(22:29):
level, okay, you can do themissa pandaria questing, but up
until level 70, and until thenyou like, don't have to buy the
war within.
But once you hit level 70, youwill need the expansion because
it will force you out of, uh,chromie time or timelines and it
will essentially bring you tothe war within content.

(22:50):
Okay, this way you get toexperience the current content
as it's being leveled throughcurrently, which makes sense.
It does make sense.
Um, after this expansion, thewar within will be added to
chromie time.
Okay, this is how they're doingit from now on.
Um, there isn't a lot that youneed to worry about?

(23:11):
I genuinely don't think so.
All of the stuff happens at endgame, when it's stuff like the
bonus events and stuff, worldquests.
You know all of these differenttypes of things that they've
added over the past couple ofexpansions that are meant for
end game content, like evenbattle pets to some extent.
So do not worry about any ofthis stuff while leveling.

(23:33):
Just enjoy the levelingexperience, enjoy the questing,
enjoy the zones, enjoyeverything like that, and then
you can start playing aroundwith end game content pvp, pve,
mythic plus uh, delves, battlepets, world quests.
You know absolutely everythinglike that and you will find your
niche that you like.
Maybe it's pvp, maybe it'sdelves, maybe it is battle pets,

(23:54):
maybe it's just.
You know herbing, mining, maybeit's doing professions.
You know all of this stuff.
So there isn't a lot to it whenyou're leveling.
All you need to know about ischromie time while leveling.
That's all it is okay.
Um, there's not much more I cansay to help.
I've probably missed out somevery key, important points.

(24:18):
I'm not going to lie, but thisis the thing that you need to
focus on first.
Okay, I know it looksoverwhelming.
I know it looks scary.
I know that you see Zeppelinsconstantly going in and out of
Orgrimmar and wondering, oh,where are they going, what's
that doing?
And some stuff like that.
But I promise you just focus onthe leveling.
Go to chromie, pick anexpansion and level in it.

(24:40):
Okay, nothing more needs to bedone on your end.
Just enjoy the zones, enjoy thequesting.
When you get to level 70,that's when you can start
looking into the differentthings that are happening.
Okay, because that's when morestuff will unlock to you.
It's that simple.
But that is where I will end itfor this episode.

(25:01):
Thank you all very much forlistening.
Do check out all of the socialmedia stuff, constant stuff
happening over there, as well asthe Etsy shop, multiple things
that have been going up.
I've recently put up a helmetdomination and, oh my god, what
was it?
I put up an exit, our lifestaff, actually something that
was quite fun to create.
Um, took me a bit and a couple,a few attempts actually to

(25:24):
create, but it is up there andit is quite fun to see in person
.
But thank you all very much forlistening once again, guys, and
go, valafriend, goodbye all.
Thank you.
