Mike (00:17):
Well listeners, welcome to
the January edition of the
12-Minute Model Sphere.
Happy New Year, dave.
Happy New Year listeners.
Kentucky Dave (00:23):
Happy New Year,
mike.
Happy New Year Dave.
Happy New Year listeners.
Happy New Year Mike.
Happy New Year listeners.
And yeah, we're getting thisout a day or maybe after we
meant to do it, but then again, you know, new Year's is kind of
tough to get everything donewith all the other stuff going
on.
Mike (00:39):
Well, that's for sure, we
have a little spillover into
what we tried to promise forDecember into January, but we'll
get to that.
Typically, we lead this offwith where we've been and where
we're going and we haven'treally been anywhere because of
the holidays.
Right, I feel it's fortunatefor us, and maybe you do for you
as well, but we're kind of inthe stay-home years of our
(01:01):
holiday enjoyment.
Kentucky Dave (01:03):
Yes, yes years of
our holiday enjoyment, yes, yes
.
Well, I'm particularly lucky inthat the vast majority of my
family lives within four or fivemiles of my house.
(01:25):
So and sisters, their children,my mom I'm very lucky in that
regard.
So, yeah, not having to travelmore than a couple of miles to
do all that and the ability tospread it out from mid-afternoon
on Christmas Eve all the way tothe end of the day Christmas
(01:49):
night, makes for a much morerelaxed Christmas, as opposed to
when Ruthie and I were firstmarried and first had kids and
we'd fly up to Baltimore, maryland, to go to Southern
Maryland where Ruthie's familywas.
Man, you want to talk aboutdoing airports at Christmastime?
(02:10):
I do not miss that at all.
Mike (02:15):
Well, the model show
season is off to a rousing start
.
Yes, it is.
I don't know if we'll get toany or not in January.
We're trying to get to one.
I'd love to.
I will remind folks that thetwo shows outlined in the
December show spotlight for themonth of January still have not
happened yet at the time of thisdrop.
So on January 10th and 11ththat's a half a day on the 10th
(02:38):
and all day on the 11th theChattanooga Club will be hosting
the Chattanooga Model Con.
That's the one we were temptedto try to get down to.
Kentucky Dave (02:46):
Yes.
Mike (02:47):
So if anybody sees us that
weekend, that's where you would
happen to see us.
Kentucky Dave (02:54):
It just sounds
like a good show.
We need to try to get to thatfacility.
I mean, I have such fondmemories of that facility the
Downtown Convention Center wherethey held the 2019 Nationals.
The downtown convention centerwhere they held the 2019
nationals.
That's just such a greatfacility to hold a show in that.
I have no doubt that that'sjust an awesome show to attend
and I'd love to squeeze downthere.
Mike (03:17):
And the other one is in
college station, texas winter
blitz 25, or winter blitz 2025.
Let me clear that up a littlebit.
Our friend of Brandon Jacobsshow down there and that's a
little later in the month, soyou still got some time to plan
on that one.
So, folks, if you can get outand enjoy an early season model
show, yes, absolutely.
(03:57):
I said we have a littlecarryover from December, but
we'll get to the main episodes, the feature episodes, first.
We've got two in January, dave.
Kentucky Dave (04:05):
Yes, we do 132
and 133.
Mike (04:08):
Something a little
different for a guest, this time
In episode 132, I hope.
Scheduling pending, these mayget swapped, but we'll see how
it goes.
But that's the plan for now,episode 132.
We're going to be talking tolistener Steve Anderson, and
Steve has penned a.
Well, I'll read the title aguided journal for the modeler,
for modelers, making the most ofyour hobby.
(04:30):
And what what it is is a bookwith, oh, quite a few, 50 or so
questions to ponder and space tojournal a little bit and
provide some action steps goingforward for your hobby.
And then a little later in thebook it's got some some project
outlines and things like that.
And, uh, you know, this is kindof unique.
And and, uh, he, he mentionedthis to us in a listener mail
(04:51):
and I said, well, why don't youcome on and talk about it?
So we're going to talk aboutthis.
I don't know how many listenerslike to write, but I'm sure
quite a few do, or evennote-taking can be beneficial.
So, looking forward to seeingwhat this is all about.
Kentucky Dave (05:07):
Well, this has
several things.
I know there are a number ofmodelers who actually do keep
notebooks on each of theirprojects.
In addition to that, the otherparts of this little booklet
it's more a booklet than a bookis kind of thought-provoking.
You can sit down with it whenyou're not at your bench
modeling but wherever, grab afew minutes, read through and
(05:33):
ponder on a section.
I think it stimulates themodeling centers in the brain
and I'll be interested to talkwith him about that.
Mike (05:43):
Well, the other episode
133, as planned today will be
another shop talk.
So, dave, we've got to cook upsome good questions and our good
topics, and I've beensuccessful at that.
So I think that should not be aproblem, given the amount of
work we've been getting to atour benches here in the recent
past.
Kentucky Dave (06:00):
I was going to
say I've got one or two kicking
around already in my brain.
Mike (06:06):
Well, the model show scene
stays hot going on into
February and we'll have a modelshow spotlight sometime this
month in January, and we'll knowwe're going to feature one show
, maybe two, trying to line thatup so folks can tune in for
news on other shows out there inthe model sphere.
And then finally in December weactually gosh it's back in
(06:29):
November.
We'd hope to have DrStrangerbush on in December for
a short on types and applying ofprimers and we still intend to
do that and I got to get himscheduled and really hoping to
drop that in January as well.
Kentucky Dave (06:43):
Yes, I think that
would be a useful discussion.
In fact, modeling friend ScottSkippy King came over on New
Year's Day to have a modelingsession and some black eyed peas
and cabbage and he's at thestage where he's about to prime
his current project.
So we had a little bit of talkabout that just between the two
(07:05):
of us and I'm really lookingforward to Dr Strangebrush's
words of wisdom on that subject.
Mike (07:13):
So folks join us for all
that and hopefully we'll all
learn something new.
So folks join us for all thatand hopefully we'll all learn
something new.
Dave the dojo is pretty activeover the holidays.
What's been going down?
Kentucky Dave (07:25):
Yes, me excepted.
Unfortunately, the dark timeapplies not only to me not
getting the modeling I wanteddone, but I was not on social
media nearly as much and so Ididn't get into the dojo.
But I'm going to cure that.
But yes, thank gosh, otherswere picking up the slack, like
me.
(07:46):
Yes, yeah, well, you weremodeling because you had what?
Almost two weeks off, ten days.
Mike (07:53):
Ten days, counting the
weekends.
Kentucky Dave (07:54):
And you actually
got some modeling done, man, I'm
telling you.
But yeah, the dojo is veryactive.
We're well over 5,000 membersracing toward 5,100, which is
our next goal.
So if you are a current memberof the dojo and your Facebook
friends with other modelers, please go through your friends
(08:18):
list and invite all the modelersto the dojo.
The posts, particularly inDecember, tended to center
around two things.
One, we got a lot of peopleposting this is what I finished
in 2024.
And those are always great.
I love seeing that.
You know I'm not as productiveas a lot of people, but I love
(08:40):
seeing the people, particularlythe people who have modeled a
great range of stuff, peoplewho've gotten a lot finished.
It just was really great.
And then a lot of people areposting the projects that
they're starting to get arunning start into 2025.
(09:03):
And man, there are some greatmodelers out there.
On the dojo, I could drawattention to a bunch of posts,
but I want to draw attention toone that was just posted today
by Joshua Scott, and he posted aGundam.
And if you want to see whatGundam modeling can be,
(09:28):
exercising all of the not onlybuilding and painting, but the
weathering and chipping, andit's just a really, really nice
model and I'd encourageeverybody, when you listen to
this episode, flip onto Facebook, go into the dojo and scroll
(09:50):
back until you find JoshuaScott's post and take a look at
that Gundam that he posted.
Mike (09:57):
And I'd also like to
remind the folks hosting shows
in January to send us a photoessay of what showed up and
share that with us.
It'll help encourage folks toattend shows in their
geographies and might help getfolks to yours, and will
certainly encourage us all.
Kentucky Dave (10:14):
And, in addition,
if you've got a show coming up
in later January or early or anyor all of February and you have
a show flyer, please post a PDFof that show flyer in the dojo,
let people know about your show.
We got a lot of eyeballs in thedojo and they are spread all
(10:35):
over the US, in fact all overthe world.
So if you've got a show comingup the world, so if you've got a
show coming up, go ahead, postyour flyer in the dojo and you
know let people know what'shappening.
Well, Dave, we probably wrapthis up and get back to our
benches for January.
Yeah, yeah, we got to.
We're coming out of the darktime, man, we got to get a
(10:56):
running start.
Mike (10:58):
All right, well, we'll see
you around, man.
Kentucky Dave (10:59):
You got it.
