Janelle (KitMasx) (00:01):
Kev, tell
everyone why you started Kit
Mask.
Kevin (KitMasx) (00:03):
Well, manually
masking canopies sucks, and
somebody had to step in to savethose countless kits from the
shelf of doom.
Janelle (KitMasx) (00:11):
And now we've
got over 400 sets and counting.
We've got old kits, new kits, forgotten kits, you name it.
Kevin (KitMasx) (00:15):
Yeah, and if we
don't have it, just ask.
Janelle (KitMasx) (00:17):
Yeah, people
don't realize.
We take customer requests andwe even have a service that gets
you canopy masks for free.
Kevin (KitMasx) (00:22):
We do.
Janelle (KitMasx) (00:23):
Our masks are
precision cut.
They fit well, they're easy toapply.
Kevin cuts and tests every set.
Kevin (KitMasx) (00:30):
Several times.
Janelle (KitMasx) (00:30):
Yeah,
precision is kind of his thing.
Kevin (KitMasx) (00:33):
And Janelle.
She does everything else.
She cares about each customerand is the heart of our business
.
Janelle (KitMasx) (00:38):
If you ever
reach out, you're talking
directly to us.
Real people, real modelers.
Kevin (KitMasx) (00:45):
And if you
don't love your masks, we'll
refund or replace them.
Janelle (KitMasx) (00:47):
No questions
asked.
Visit kitmaskcom, join themailing list and treat yourself
to easier, cleaner masking.
Kevin (KitMasx) (00:52):
Kitmask made by
a modeler for modelers.
Janelle (KitMasx) (00:55):
Hey, what
about me?
Kevin (KitMasx) (00:56):
You're not a
modeler.
Mike (01:10):
Dave, I hope you're
enjoying this Labor Day weekend.
Kentucky Dave (01:13):
I definitely am
looking forward to it, but, man,
where the heck did August go?
I'm starting the monthcelebrating my wife's birthday
my birthday Then we go toHampton and next thing I know
it's Labor Day.
What the heck happened.
Mike (01:29):
We've been busy.
You know, I mentioned in thelast episode that I was super
busy before Nats and then wekind of had to tread water to
get to even go, and then againwe got busy after we got back
and now school started and allthat stuff and summer's gone, my
friend, I know.
Kentucky Dave (01:45):
Well, you
certainly think that from the
weather outside August inKentucky is usually not this
school.
No that's okay.
No, it's fine.
I've got no complaints.
Heck, we've been having thetime of our life.
You can't complain.
Mike (02:03):
We normally start this TMM
12-Minute Model Sphere by where
we've been and where we'regoing.
Well, we've done a wholeepisode on where we've been.
Kentucky Dave (02:11):
Yep.
Mike (02:11):
And you just mentioned it
the IPMS National Convention in
Hampton, Virginia, which was ablast.
But you can go back and listento that episode if you want to
hear all about that.
But we've had some post-NATScommunications that you thought
were worth mentioning, so we'lldo that as a little follow-up
right here, right now.
Kentucky Dave (02:29):
Well, what I want
to do is ask members who went
to the national convention toemail us, particularly those we
got to see at Stop by the Table, those who, for them, it was
their first national convention, and then just generally,
(02:51):
anybody who is a listener whowent to the convention, email us
, let us know your thoughts.
What did you like, what didn'tyou like?
I come away from every Natsthinking it was the best one
ever.
Um, but I kind of want to hearwhat people think there were
some changes and what I thinkwere improvements this year over
(03:16):
previous years, and I kind ofwant to hear back from our
listeners.
So if you would please email, mike, or DM me to let me have
your thoughts on that subject.
Mike (03:30):
Yeah, you can email us at
plasticmodelmojo at gmailcom, or
you can DM us through theFacebook messaging system, and
there's also a contact the showlink in the show notes.
You can also use that to sendus what's effectively an email,
but it's through its own portal,so we've got three ways to do
that.
So, yeah, please, that'd beinteresting and we love to get
the email anyway.
So good on you if you email usabout these things.
(03:52):
Well, dave, we are goingsomewhere in September.
Kentucky Dave (03:55):
Yes, we are Going
to be a little while.
I'm going somewhere.
Hopefully you'll be goingsomewhere If the weather
cooperates and you don't end upwith near flooding and a power
outage again.
Yeah, we'll both be at theMilitary Modelers Club of
Louisville show inShepherdsville, kentucky, on the
(04:16):
27th of September.
Yep.
Mike (04:19):
I guess that's the last
Saturday of the month.
Kentucky Dave (04:21):
Last Saturday of
the month and in fact, we have a
table there and our table isgoing to be right next to Jeff
Inchai Groh's table.
Mike (04:31):
Oh, okay, we'll have a
good time.
Kentucky Dave (04:33):
Yes, we're going
to have a real good time.
Mike (04:35):
He must be selling a few
things.
Kentucky Dave (04:45):
Some books,
believe it or not, but if you
can work it out, if you'rewithin a day's drive of
Louisville and you can work itout, it's a one-day show, opens
at nine.
They have you out of there bythree 30.
They're very efficient onawards and all that so that
people can get back home and dothe whole thing in a day.
I urge you strongly to come tothe contest.
(05:07):
You'll have a great time.
Mike (05:09):
Well, moving back to
Pariquet Springs was a good move
.
Yes, it's a pretty nicefacility for an IPMS
Invitational Size Show.
Kentucky Dave (05:17):
It is.
It's as large, facility-wise,floor space-wise it's almost as
large as the area that theHamilton Club has in the museum
for their contest.
It's a really, really spaciousfacility.
Mike (05:36):
All right, well, I hope to
see some of you folks there.
Kentucky Dave (05:58):
Yes, hey, mike,
do we have some episodes coming
up in September?
Mike (06:03):
Well, we've got two and in
lieu of the recent double bill
show spotlight we just dropped alittle earlier last week double
bill show spotlight we justdropped a little earlier last
week and then this 12-minutemodel series dropping on a
monday, first of the month beingon a monday, we're pushing our
first feature episode inseptember out a week, so
normally there would have been afeature episode today, on the
(06:25):
day this drops, but uh, we kindof got a little glut, so we're
gonna gonna push that out andit's gonna be a good episode.
Dave.
Episode 147, dr Strangebrushhas been soliciting questions
from his clientele and we'regoing to tackle those in a
special segment with DrStrangebrush in episode 147.
So I'm looking forward to thattoo, so we hadn't talked to him
(06:46):
in a little while, so that'll begood.
Yes 148 coming up a littlelater in the month is going to
be a shop talk episode and MrChris Wallace from the model
airplane maker YouTube channeland blog is going to be sitting
in the third chair and you knowI need to solicit maybe a topic
or two from him to talk about.
Kentucky Dave (07:07):
So yeah, I've got
one for for Chris for that uh
episode bare metal finishesCause he just dropped a whole
video on that.
That might be a really goodtopic to discuss for our shop
talk.
Mike (07:18):
Well, I'll pencil that one
in and tell him to get ready.
Kentucky Dave (07:21):
That's right.
Mike (07:24):
I look back and it's been
right out of year since Chris
was on.
He was on the Wheel ofAccidental Wisdom about a year
ago, in September or so.
Kentucky Dave (07:31):
Yeah, haven't
heard from him in a while.
Mike (07:32):
Well, we've heard from him
, but the listening audience for
Plastic Model Mojo has notheard from him in a while.
Kentucky Dave (07:39):
We hear from him
regularly.
Mike (07:41):
That's right, so he was
perfectly willing to come on.
So bare metal finishes, that'dbe a good one, dave, I like that
and go watch his video on thesubject.
Well, dave, we'll kind ofstretch this out.
Give a little bit more meat tothe 12-minute model sphere.
Give another little tidbit thatfolks can find useful.
(08:03):
I'm going to try to insert atip of the month, so we're going
to have a little homework to dogoing forward.
But the tip of the month forSeptember also stems from our
trip to Hampton, Virginia, theIFMS National Convention.
It was about a month ago thatmaybe a little longer than that,
because I put it on the dojo Ihave discovered that the
(08:27):
interleave film in a pack ofAldi prosciutto was actually two
and a half thousandthspolystyrene sheeting and that
proved to be quite useful.
So it sent us on a little bitof a goose chase while we were
in Hampton we rolled up to anAldi and everybody jumped out
(08:48):
and ran inside to go get somecharcuterie for the evening.
Now there are two varieties ofprosciutto at Aldi.
One of them is just I guessit's just says prosciutto, and
the other one has some Italianstyle or something on it.
I didn't know there was anyother kind of prosciutto than
Italian style, but if it saysItalian something on the pack,
(09:08):
that's not the one you want.
You want the other one.
I assume they're packed at twodifferent facilities and the one
that just says prosciutto hasthis ultra thin polystyrene
sheeting in it that I've startedto find very useful in my
modeling.
It's like I said, it's two anda half thousandths, which is
half the thickness ofevergreen's thinnest sheet, and
(09:29):
I'm looking for it as a supplieditem from a manufacturer.
I like prosciutto, Dave, butyou know.
Yeah right, there's only so muchprosciutto and washing the
washing the, the, the fat, yeah, the fat, and grease off of it,
yeah, cause you gotta be careful, cause that's just so thin you
can't use very hot water, soRight.
So if you need some really, really thin polystyrene, until I
(09:52):
enter, until I find out asource supplier for this stuff,
you can get it at Aldi in theirprosciutto.
Kentucky Dave (10:00):
Yeah.
Mike (10:00):
So there's my tip of the
month, Dave.
Kentucky Dave (10:02):
Yeah, well, we'll
see what happens.
I need to go out and buy stockin Aldi or something.
Mike (10:13):
Dave, I know the dojo has
been hopping.
Kentucky Dave (10:16):
Yes, it has.
It has been busy, doesn't beginto describe it.
We're up to basically 5,450members, give or take a few.
Membership's been climbing.
Right now it's climbing about2% a month, which is a nice
(10:36):
steady gain.
What I'm really thrilled aboutis the interaction.
We are now regularly seeing 30plus posts on the dojo.
We're getting really greatinteraction.
Just to give you a couple ofexamples, there was a member who
(10:57):
was having difficulty withtheir Iwata airbrush and they
had tried everything.
And I and another memberrecommended that they contact Dr
Strangebrush.
They did so.
Not only did Dr Miller helpcure their Iwata problem, he
sold them a hard-earned steambag while he had them on the
(11:18):
phone.
So win, win, win all the wayaround.
And then another member posted aphoto of a completed Star Wars.
You know one of the Bandai StarWars kits or Fine Molts I
forget which.
Either one or fine malts, Iforget which Either one.
And that prompted aconversation about what a good
(11:40):
palette those kits are forpainting and weathering.
And Paul Gloucester, as youknow, brought one to the
Nationals that he had done andwhile we were at Hampton, he and
I at the Airbnb were discussingthat at length.
We were at Hampton, he and I atthe Airbnb were discussing that
at length and then I commentedon this person's post about that
(12:04):
.
Then Paul chimed in and it ledto a really, really nice
discussion about those kits Evenif sci-fi or star Wars aren't
in your wheelhouse just being agreat way to cleanse the palette
, build a nice kit.
They go together very well andthey are really good for
(12:26):
stretching your painting andweathering legs.
Mike (12:30):
Well, I rub those every
time I see them at the shows.
I just haven't pulled thetrigger on it.
I know I want that big AMT30-second scale TIE fighter at
some point, but the smallerscale 70-second Y-wings, x-wings
TIE fighters yeah, I get that.
That's pretty cool.
Kentucky Dave (12:47):
I've got an
X-wing and I want a Y-wing.
Mike (12:51):
We'll buy one, Dave.
Yeah, no, I don't need to bebuying more kits.
We'll sell some at our show.
Kentucky Dave (12:57):
Yeah, well, I'm
going to do some of that.
I've been selling a few on thedojo and I'm going to be moving
some at our show Because, again,as I'll say for the billionth
time, the experience of going upand helping that widow clear
out her basement of all thosebooks has radicalized me and I
do not want to leave my wife andchildren in that position.
(13:20):
So I got to do something Well.
Mike (13:23):
back to the dojo numbers.
I was looking today, dave, andwe're getting close to parity
between the dojo and the PlasticModel Mojo Facebook page the
normal podcast page where Inormally post.
Right where we do just theannouncements, just the
announcements, and I don't knowman, should that run past that
significantly?
We may have to change the waywe do things on there, but real
(13:44):
glad to see it.
Folks, recommend your friendsin your modeling community to
the dojo.
We just like to see it keepgrowing.
Well, folks, that's September.
We hope you join us foreverything we can push out for
you to digest.
It's going to be a good month.
We got two good episodes and welook forward to more growth on
(14:05):
the dojo and hopefully we'll seeyou at Paracat Springs in
Shepherdsville, kentucky, atMMCL Invitational.
Dave, as we always say, so manykits, so little time.
Kentucky Dave (14:16):
My friend, we'll
see you soon see you have a
happy labor day you too and toeveryone else, all right.
Hit the button to stop therecording.
Mike (14:47):
Well, I just remembered I
forgot to do something.
