Speaker 1 (00:10):
Welcome to Pocketful of Mojo, where you're, you and
I'm Steph, and we tune in hereto tap into some mojo.
And if you're new here andasking what's mojo, well, mojo
is that feeling of unstoppableconfidence, that booming
self-worth.
Like you're an unstoppableforce of nature.

(00:30):
You know, when you're walkingdown the street and you got that
strut and you get the parkingspace right in front of the
building and all the good ideasare firing nonstop.
Well, I'm here to show you howyou can have that feeling every
single day.
You see, I think I've crackedthe code to being happy.
I'm happy all the freaking timeevery day, at least most of the

(00:52):
day, possibly to an annoyingdegree.
But hey, I wasn't always thisway.
And not to flex, but I have hadmultiple breakdowns on multiple
continents and in two languages.
Look, three years ago my wholelife was a dumpster fire and
today I'm better than I've everbeen.
How's that?

(01:13):
Well, by paying attention andby living with more intention.
And I've created the Self-LoveFirst Aid Kit, and it's full of
amazing tools that help me levelup and navigate life with that
main character energy.
And I'm not here to gatekeep.
In fact, I'm on a mission tohelp you tap into your best

(01:33):
stuff and remember that you haveeverything you need to live
your life on your own terms.
So settle in.
We're here for some positivechange.
So let's dig in to where yourmojo meets the road.
In today's episode, I'm goingto review our mantra for the
week and then we're going to diginto today's main topic, and

(01:54):
that topic is breaking up withthe rinse and repeat of life,
how to keep life fresh and funand how to avoid the dreaded
ruts that keep us from squeezingthe most and the best out of
life.
So you stick around, and I'mgoing to make sure that you're
glad that you did.
Let's get started with today'smantra and get tuned in.

(02:16):
Tapped hello and welcome to the41st episode of Pocketful of
Mojo.
Once again, I'm Steph.
I'm your Mojo Maven, youremotional Sherpa, and I'm so

(02:39):
glad you're here.
Am I a therapist?
No, do I have a degree inpsychology?
No, I'm a flawed human and arecovering people pleaser who's
just figured out how to tap intoour best stuff.
We're literally born witheverything we need.
So I'm here to reflect yourawesomeness back to you and hook
you up with some inspirationand motivation to live the life

(03:03):
you love, and love the life youlive you in.
Let's start by digging intoday's mantra.
And today's mantra is I makedecisions that align with my
commitment to live a happierlife.
Shablam, better happier life,anyone.
Okay, come on, let's dig in andunpack this one together, shall

(03:25):
we?
I make decisions that alignwith my commitment to live a
happier life.
So, right out of the gate, weare once again empowered by this
mantra to remember that we arein the driver's seat in our
lives and we are given a brainand empowered to use it to make
decisions.
These are conscious choicesthat are well, hopefully, in

(03:49):
alignment with our goals and ourdesires and our values.
Sometimes, when we're living inthe rinse and repeat of life, we
can start to drift away fromthe ownership that comes with
our choices and our decisions.
We kind of forget that we're incharge and we can change our
minds at any time.
You decide, you're in charge.

(04:12):
When we make decisionsthoughtlessly or by habit, we
can inadvertently start tocreate distance between the life
that we want and the one thatwe're actually living.
I make decisions that alignwith my commitment to live a
happier life.
Living in alignment Well, whatdoes that even mean?

(04:35):
Well, alignment is when twothings line up with each other.
So to live in alignment, wehave to first know what we are
trying to line up with.
You have to do the work ofdefining and describing what
your goals and desires actuallyare.
Sounds simple enough, but whenwas the last time you actually

(04:57):
sat down with yourself anddefined what that looks like?
Looks like?
If it's been a minute, thenthere's a risk that the life
that you're living may be inalignment with someone that you
no longer share hopes and dreams, with a former version of
yourself that maybe, since then, you've outgrown those dreams
and those desires, but your lifeand daily decisions haven't

(05:21):
made the upgrade.
This could be very simply thecause of any missing mojo in
your life, and if that's thecase, it's never too late to
breathe and reboot.
I make decisions that align withmy commitment to live a happier
life Commitment.

(05:42):
What are you committed to?
Do?
You want to live a happier life?
What agreements have you madewith yourself in terms of how
you want your life to look?
Your life may or may not looklike the life you dreamed of,
but how committed are you tobuilding the road to that life?
Well, good news, magoo.

(06:04):
No permission needed.
It starts with you.
It starts with defining yourdreams and really being able to
put your finger on how badly youwant it.
When you know why you're makingthe decisions that you are, it
makes it easier to find andharness the motivation you need

(06:25):
to get where you want to go.
And even cooler is that if whatyou've committed to isn't
working, you can check andadjust anytime you want, every
day if you want, until it feelsright.
If that's what it takes, I makedecisions that align with my
commitment to live a happierlife.

(06:46):
I chose this mantra to remindyou that, however you got here,
there you are, and if there'seven the slightest adjustment
that you can make to live ahappier life, I want you to feel
empowered and inspired to makethat choice.
To start small and to staycommitted every day and
consciously make decisions thatalign with your goals and your

(07:10):
desires, with your happiness, with your wellness, with your
responsibility to own andcontribute to having the
happiest, most fulfilling lifethat you can possibly muster,
just one day at a time.
And when happiness is atowering value and you
consciously commit to it andmake the shift from wishing and

(07:32):
hoping to the empowered place ofchoosing your own adventure,
you will begin to see a shift inyour life where your choices
and commitments shows up as alife that reflects back to you
what matters most, what makesyou happy, and when you do that,
there's no room for things tohold you back or dim your shine.

(07:54):
Now, sparkle, baby Sparkle.
I make decisions that alignwith my commitment to live a
happier life.
Now, that's what I call amantra.

(08:15):
With today's main topic keepingthe focus on how to break up the
rinse and repeat of life, there's definitely a way for you
to begin to lay down the trackstowards a life that is way more
in alignment with the personthat you want to become from
where you are now.
Very rarely in life do we get alittle tap on the shoulder to

(08:35):
slow down, reflect and realignour lives, and I just hope that
this podcast episode acts as acall to action for you to pause
your life for a moment andconnect with where you are and
with where you want to go.
So, to go deeper on this ideaof being the captain of your own

(08:55):
ship, we're going to take itback to the streets where I walk
around, and I can riff a littlebit on the idea of getting off
of autopilot, on the idea ofgetting off of autopilot.
So, without further ado, let'sgo deep on the idea of writing

(09:32):
your own story on this veryspecial are doing mojo on the go
.
One last time.
Maybe one last time I think Imight squeeze one more out,
because I leave on Friday.
So I feel like maybe producinga podcast the day before I leave
might be cutting it a bit then.

(09:53):
So, because we are in the rinseand repeat of things.
So if you've been listening tosome last episodes, you know
that my life has been literallyanything but rinse and repeat.
But that's what we're going todig into today.
We're going to talk about howdoes it feel when you're stuck

(10:15):
and how we got there, how to getout of it, how to see the
bigger picture, how to maybe putit under the magnifying glass
and look at how it shows up inour day-to-day life, because it
really takes, I think, bothperspectives.
I mean there's micro ruts andthen there's macro ruts, and one
of the things that a fellowcoach said to me once is that

(10:38):
you know you can make positivechanges in your life without
blowing up your life.
And that just really resonatedwith me, because I know that
I've certainly blown up my lifemore than once, and all for
really good reasons.
But that's not the prescriptionfor everyone, because, at the
end of the day, it's therelationship that we have with
ourselves that's going to be thedirect indicator of our ability

(11:01):
to really tune in to what wewant.
Where are we going?
What really matters?
We can go a really long timewithout asking ourselves these
questions and just kind of keeprolling on with the assumptions
that we feel the way we'vealways felt.
So we're going to do the thingswe've always done, and maybe
that's okay.

(11:22):
Maybe that means that you'vecracked your own code and you
figured it all out and you'vegot the recipe for what makes
you happy, and that's awesome.
But there are some of us who canend up trying to cling so hard
to the comfort and the familiarthat we end up stuck, we end up
in a rut and we end upoutgrowing the things that once

(11:44):
upon a time we really did wantfor ourselves, because no one
grows up thinking I want to growup and live on a hamster wheel
At least.
I think that's probably ratherrare.
But then we get to this adultstage where there's this
impression that we have to haveit all figured out by a certain
time, or that the decisions thatwe made 10, 15, 20 years ago

(12:06):
are the ones that we're stuckwith for the rest of our life.
And I'm here to say that's justnot fucking true.
When my life did blow up and Iwent back and started from
scratch and spent the time withthe sadness and the grieving and
the sorrow and the depressionand the feeling of being lost,

(12:26):
that did pass.
This, too shall pass.
One of my favorite sayings Well, it did, and I outgrew that
stage.
I outgrew that feeling.
So when I didn't know where tostart, I figured that maybe
nobody was looking and maybe Icould start with just doing
whatever I want.
And, as it turns out, no one'scome to stop me yet.

(12:54):
And so when I was talking tosomebody and I had introduced
myself to their friend and theyasked me what I did, I was like
well, I recently promoted myselfto being the president of doing
whatever I want.
And it got a really good laugh, which made me feel great, of
course, because there's no suchthing as feeling ready.
Sometimes you just gotta start.
And so when I said president ofdoing whatever I want, that

(13:17):
want meant that I had to beconstantly tuned in to what my
wants and needs and desiresreally were, and that was its
own bag of work.
But it can kind of make yourhead spin, because once upon a
time we had plans.
Once upon a time we had writtenthe story of how we wanted our
life to go.
And where my story shakesthings up is because it didn't

(13:40):
go the way I thought it wasgoing to.
Things change.
They always will.
So the question becomes do wechange the way we live in
accordance with the change ofplans?
Because that's often where wefind resistance is if we're
trying to put the square peg ina round hole.
The plans have changed, but wehaven't, or we've changed and

(14:03):
the daily day routine hasn't.
And I want to be careful becausethere's a relationship between
routines and reps and I thinkyou know there's a lot of
different ways you can slice it.
I think a routine done too manytimes, or a routine done
without intention, or a routinethat's done without tuning in

(14:25):
and tapping into what's reallyimportant in that day, in that
moment and as well as on thegrander scale, it's not the
right routine or it's not themoment for that routine.
And I think a routine can turninto a rut when we're doing it
for the sake of doing it.
You know, if you're going onyour stupid mental health walk

(14:47):
because it's supposed to be goodfor me, well it's not going to
be good for you.
Because you just called it astupid mental health walk,
you've already decided that it'snot going to do anything for
you.
So you need to do somethingelse for your mental health, and
that's okay, because there's no.
That doesn't mean that we werewrong before.
It just means that theconditions have changed.

(15:07):
And I think our ego flares up alittle bit when we go to change
our minds, because that meansthat we have failed or that we
means that we did somethingwrong.
But what if it didn't mean thatat all?
What if it just meant thatwe're now acting with new
awareness?
We're taking decisions based onnew information, a new set of
feelings.
So you can definitely leverageroutines to stay out of the rut.

(15:31):
Give yourself seasonalcheck-ins to make sure that your
goals are still aligned withwhat you actually want.
Or are you just going throughthe motions to get to the goals?
You can say that you did thegoal.
That's not going to reward you.
It's not going to reward you.
It's not going to fulfill youand it's going to take extra
motivation and that dirty dirtydiscipline instead of going

(15:53):
through it with joy and passionand alignment, because it's
something that you want.
So this reminds me of when I wasworking at the pub and there
was lots of students and theywould be.
So what was me about?
Their life and being a youngadult is so hard and managing
their money and doing laundryand going out for drinks and

(16:17):
then having to go to school thenext day.
School was getting in the wayof all this other life stuff and
as they told the story of theirlife, the school was just like
this villain character in theirlife, and at first it really
frustrated me, because school isa, it's an honor, it's a gift,
it's a privilege, it shouldexcite you, and so I would try

(16:37):
to ask questions and get themback to.
Well, what are you taking inschool?
Oh, what made you want to takethat?
Where do you see yourself?
How are you going to use this?
And just start reminding them alittle bit about the why and
this is where I'm going to go alittle bit more macro, because
you know I see I saw this a lotwith the students is that you

(16:59):
know I'd want to ask them thequestion like are these goals
your goals or is this just whatyou thought you were supposed to
do?
And that can be a really toughquestion to put, to ask yourself
, because what if you are on thewrong track?
Oh, now what?
Well, the easy, short answer isyou change your mind and you

(17:21):
change lanes, one small decisionat a time.
Change your mind and you changelanes, one small decision at a
time.
So, are your goals your goalsor are they what you thought you
should strive for?
And that comes right back towhat is your relationship like
with yourself?
Because if you haven't answeredsome of the big questions for

(17:43):
yourself, you're going to lookto the outside for the answers.
And, as we've talked aboutbefore on the podcast, what
works for someone else isn'tnecessarily what's going to work
for you, but when someone fromthe outside that you respect and
admire gives you some advice,it's going to sound sweet to the
ears and you have the addedbonus of not having to make the

(18:05):
decision yourself.
So there's two big toughquestions Are you living your
life or the life you thought youwere supposed to live?
And the second big question isare your goals your goals, or
are your goals what you thoughtyou were supposed to strive for?
Knowing who you are is thefundamental basis for guiding

(18:27):
your actions and your decisions, and this is where empowerment
is key.
The confidence comes later.
If it feels scary, you'reprobably onto something.
If it feels uncomfortable, keeppulling that thread until
there's no sweater left andyou've got the real,
unadulterated truth about howyou feel, about your routines,

(18:48):
your goals, your vision of yourlife.
Are you living it right now?
And if you're not, that's great.
That means that you've gotdreams.
That means that you've got apath that you can start to take.
And yeah, this can feel scary.
So you want to remember a fewkey things to help just give
yourself some perspective, because when things get scary,

(19:09):
we want to go back to where it'scomfortable.
We want to go back and just dothe same job we've always done
and park in the same place we'vealways parked and listen to the
same music we've alwayslistened to.
There's comfort in that we'vealways listened to.
There's comfort in that.
So when you feel curious aboutwhat else life could be like if
you stepped a little bit outsideof your comfort zone, here's a

(19:29):
few things you want to remember.
Number one this is all made up,all of it.
There has never been a today, with all the circumstances and
people and events and weatherthat's happening today.
We are all figuring this out aswe go, every single one of us,
and there are only two thingsthat are certain in this life

(19:50):
death and taxes.
That's it.
Everything else and in between,we get to curate, we get to
develop, we get to paint thepicture of what the day looks
like.
We get to choose our attitude.
We get to choose the people wehang out with.
We get to choose our jobs.
We get to choose our attitude.
We get to choose the people wehang out with.
We get to choose our jobs.
We get to choose our friends.
We get to choose how we respondin situations.

(20:10):
We get to choose how tuned inwe are to the world around us so
that we can see opportunitiescome and find us.
We are on a big rock flyingthrough space and our time on
this earth is small anduncertain and as long as you're
not hurting anybody or breakingany laws, you can change your
mind and no one's going to comeand tell you that you're doing

(20:32):
it wrong and you can always knowif it's the right thing to do,
if it's good for you and does noharm.
Look, it may not go the way youthought, but it will always get
you closer to where you want togo.
You will have learned something, you would have figured
something out.
You would have met someone thatyou wouldn't have met otherwise
.
Paying attention to what youlove and what lights you up is

(20:54):
always a clue of what you wantand what you need more of,
whether that's vegetables,reading a book, going on a walk
or the people that you hang outwith.
And then, when you know this, you can do it more often, with
the intention of being ready togo through the doors as they
open up to you along the way.
Really owning your life pathtakes courage and desire, and I

(21:18):
believe that the fruit thatcomes from that tree of going on
that adventure with yourself, that comes from that tree of
going on that adventure withyourself, is really the reason
that we're here.
We're here to serve.
We all have a magic's talent,we all have superpowers, and
we're here to serve those.
And while we're doing that,we're here to experience, which
is why the rinse and repeat isso dangerous.

(21:39):
It robs us of the amazingexperiences that just make you
tingle and make your stomachflutter and make you smile and
laugh and cry.
That's why we're here.
The rinse and repeat will keepyou safe and probably bored, but
finding the balance betweenroutine and rebellion is kind of

(22:00):
what keeps life interesting andit keeps you growing into the
person that you want to become, and who that person is is going
to change and evolve.
So it's time to study up what isimportant in your life and how
can you do more of it.
Then it's time to look atwhat's holding you back.
What are the gaps between thelife that you're living and the

(22:23):
one that you're dreaming of, andhow can you start moving in
that direction.
Again, you don't have to blowup your life.
So the good news is is thatyou're in the driver's seat.
More good news you were bornwith everything that you need.
You don't need no more money.
You don't need more time.
You don't need no more money.
You don't need more time.
You just need to tune in towhat's important to you, what

(22:47):
lights you up, and let thatguide the way, because if you
don't ask the question, you'llnever know the answer.
Be brave, ask the question, sort through the answers, take
your time and you'll know whatto do when it feels right, not
when you feel ready.
That's all part of developingthat relationship with yourself

(23:10):
where you can move through lifewith confidence in your
decisions, love in your heartand excitement for what's to
come.
And I share this with you as ahumble nomad who's stumbled her
way through a very, verypassionate, filled life, and
I've taken some big swings andI've made some big choices,

(23:31):
because I went through and I didthe work of tuning into what
lights me up, what doesn't, andreally trusting my instinct on
where it wants to guide me.
And the result of that has beensome phenomenal people.
I've got tribes on twocontinents of people who I love
and respect and who've seen meat my worst and want to

(23:54):
celebrate with me when I'm at mybest, and those are things that
are important to me.
So what I can say for you isthat maybe the nomad life isn't
for you Probably not.
But when you do the work offinding out what does light you
up, what does set you on fire, you're going to have your own

(24:15):
personalized map of how to takethose steps to get more of that
into your life, and with thatit's almost five o'clock and
I've got a date on the patio, soI will bid you au revoir.
For now, keep life spicy, havefun out there and do something
to say that you've never donebefore.
Maybe go home from work adifferent way, or go into that

(24:37):
shop you've never been intobefore, because surprising
things happen when you surpriseyourself.
So have have fun with it.
Go find some magic.
Talk to you next time.
Toodaloo Au revoir.
And so, ladies and germs thatwas Pocketful of Mojo Road Trip
