Speaker 1 (00:10):
Welcome to Pocket Full of Mojo, where you're, you
and I'm, steph, and we tune inhere to tap into some mojo.
Well, what do you mean?
What's mojo?
Well, what do you mean?
What's Mojo?
Mojo is that feeling ofunshakable confidence, that
booming self-worth.
Like you're an unstoppableforce of nature, you know that

(00:36):
feeling that you get that makesyou want to strut like a 90s
supermodel.
Well, I'm here to show you howyou can have that feeling every
single day.
You see, I think I've crackedthe code to being happy.
I'm happy all the freaking time, every day, at least most of
the day, possibly to an annoyingdegree, but hey, I wasn't

(00:56):
always this way.
And not to flex, but I've hadbreakdowns on multiple
continents and in two languages.
But by paying attention and byliving with more intention, I've
curated a self-love first aidkit and it's full of amazing
tools that help me level up andnavigate life with that main
character energy.

(01:17):
And I'm not here to gatekeep.
In fact, I'm on a mission tohelp you tap into your best
stuff and remember that you haveeverything you need to live
your life on your own terms.
So settle in.
We are here for some positivechange.
So let's dig in to where yourmojo meets the road.

(01:40):
I'm going to review our mantrafor the week and then we're
going to dig into today's maintopic, which is one of my
favorite adages thoughts becomethings and plot twist.
We're not only taking it on theroad, but we are taking this
podcast overseas and shakingthings up once again.
That's right.
Today's episode is coming toyou in between bites of

(02:02):
croissants and sips of wine.
Today's episode is coming toyou in between bites of
croissants and sips of wine.
I'm back in my former hometownof Nantes, france, and I can't
wait to tell you all about it.
So you stick around, and I'mgoing to make sure that you're
glad that you did so.
Let's get started with today'smantra and get tuned in, tapped

(02:25):
in and turned on.
Hello and welcome to the 37thepisode of Pocketful of Mojo.
Once again, I'm Steph.
I am your Mojo Maven, youremotional Sherpa, and I'm so
glad you're here.
I'm here to reflect yourawesomeness and your potential
right back to you.
So let's settle in.

(02:47):
Let's start by digging intotoday's mantra.
Today's mantra is I am themaster of my thoughts and my
beliefs.
Boom, powerful stuff.
I am the master of my thoughtsand my beliefs.
I love a good mantra thatstarts with I am.
It's strong, affirming andimmediately allows us to embody

(03:10):
and capture the feeling andsensation of the mantra itself.
As this mantra in particularrefers to thoughts and beliefs,
these intangibles, it's a quickway to tune into the
relationship between the thoughtand the feeling and that allows
us to propel into action that'sin alignment with what we want

(03:31):
and desire to be true.
And that's how these mantraswork.
We are informing and rewiringour brains and core belief
systems to be more in tune withwho we see ourselves to be.
So many of us have arrived inthis moment by accident, and by
that I mean that we're operatingoff of programming that we

(03:54):
received growing up or in school, or at home and in
relationships, and maybe, justmaybe, we haven't been using our
fullest intention along the way.
Maybe we've picked up somebeliefs and thoughts about
ourselves and about life thatdon't actually belong to us, but
not this mantra.
This mantra puts us right backin that captain's chair, ready

(04:18):
to steer the ship and no longerbe a passenger.
I am the master of my thoughtsand beliefs, because who else
would you want in charge of yourthoughts and beliefs?
Seriously, and like I mentionedearlier, if we are not careful.
We will absorb and respond towhatever information and data we

(04:39):
let through the gate.
If we don't put security at thefront door, our brains are
fully prepared to let.
Anyone in Our brains willbelieve anything we tell it.
So we must be masters of ourthoughts and beliefs.
We are fully capable and incharge of being aware,
monitoring what we consume, tuning into our thoughts and

(05:02):
interrogating our beliefs, because we manage the inventory
up there in our old brain.
So if you're not the master, who is, I am the master of my
thoughts and beliefs.
One important thing to rememberas we go through this is that
our experience in this life isfluid, always moving, always

(05:24):
evolving, always adapting as wegain more experience, insight
and wisdom.
This means that our thoughtsand beliefs are fluid as well.
We can change our mind.
We can operate differently whenwe are operating with new and
evolved information.
We are operating with new andevolved information.

(05:45):
The way we are today can bedifferent than how we've always
been, because we are the masterof our thoughts and beliefs.
When new experiences orinformation comes our way, we
can check in with ourselves andadjust accordingly.
Just because you've always beena photographer doesn't mean that
you have to identify as aphotographer forever.

(06:07):
You can put the camera down.
No one will stop you, but you.
When you are the master, youwill know what resonates with
you and interrogate what yourthoughts and beliefs are and
anchor yourself in what feelstrue, what feels aligned and

(06:30):
what lights you up.
That's the stuff that we keep, and we are free to release what
no longer serves us.
I am the master of my thoughtsand beliefs.
Now, how you tune into yourthoughts and beliefs will look
different for everyone, but it'sall rooted in self-awareness.
Some of you will be inclined tojournal in order to dial into

(06:54):
what's going on.
Or maybe it's during thatawareness walk where you get to
spend some alone time with yourthoughts, or perhaps a quiet
meditation is where you tune into all of that action upstairs.
Whatever your method, themessage is what's key.
This is a chance for you toobserve without judgment what

(07:14):
you are thinking, feeling andobserving about yourself.
What feels good, where is theresome resistance?
What keeps popping up over andover again that may need your
attention?
The more you practice this, themore you're dialed into
yourself and where you're at.
When you're able to reflect onyourself objectively, you're

(07:36):
able to identify what stays, what can go and, with intention
and mindfulness, repeat yourmantras and affirmations that
are in alignment with your goalsand your vision for yourself.
It all starts there.
I am the master of my thoughtsand beliefs.
So as you anchor yourself inthis mantra, I want you to feel

(07:59):
the empowerment and ownershipthat comes with it.
Ground yourself in the knowingthat, as the master of your
thoughts and beliefs, that youget to decide what stays and
what goes.
You get to adjudicate what goeson up there, and when you
observe a thought that is not inalignment with the powerful,

(08:20):
amazing, talented, loving humanthat you are, you can simply
observe that thought and beliefand invite it to leave.
Recognize that you have no timeor space for thoughts and
beliefs that take you off yourpath or steal your sparkle
Because, my darling, that's whatyou're here to do.
I am the master of my thoughtsand beliefs.

(08:44):
Okay, mantra engaged.
That was a good one, and Ithink it just made it into my
regular rotation Nice.

(09:05):
Now for our next segment.
I'm really excited to bring youthis mojo on the road because
we have taken it overseas.
We are going global with ourmojo.
Now I don't have a car here inNantes.
So mojo on the Road istemporarily suspended, and so

(09:27):
what I did was I tried to mic upand walk around town, but I
kept getting distracted andrunning into people that I knew,
so I walked around my apartmentinstead.
Now you'll notice that my voicehas a little bit of extra bass
in it.
This week.
I got a little bit of a cold, Ithink, from all the travel and
excitement.
But what we're going to do todayis we are going to review the
topic.
Thoughts become things, and howwe shape our thoughts shapes

(09:50):
our lives, and this very tripthat I'm on right now is a
result and proof that thoughtsbecome things, and the bottom
line here is that we are what wecontinually think about.
So this is going to be a riff.
I just hit record and walkedaround and shared my thoughts,
hopefully coherently, so,without further ado.

(10:13):
Lovely humans, all the way fromNantes, france, this is Mojo on
the go.
Okay, one, two, three, four go,bonjour, hello and welcome to

(10:39):
Mojo International.
Oh my gosh, it's so echoing inhere Because we are coming to
you live from my old apartment, that's right, I'm taking you on
an overseas tour today.
Well, if you're listening fromNorth America, I'm back in my
former hometown.
I'm back in Nantes, france, sothis is where I lived for four

(11:06):
years, and today's topic is, youknow, as we mentioned in the
studio, our topic today isthoughts become things, and I am
literally standing in theevidence of thoughts become
things.
I really latched on to thatphilosophy a while back, and the
more I flex that muscle man,the more magic happens.

(11:28):
So that's what I want to unpackwith you today, and kind of
what some of the traps are, someof the good things about that
adage, some of the things thatwe can use it to our advantage.
Oh, and there's my kitty cat.
Hey buddy, he's cheesecake, heycheesecake.
So, yeah, thoughts become things, and I mean my journey here to

(11:50):
France was really a testament tothe why not?
Of it all, the who's going tostop me?
Of it all, the what if I reallydid live in France?
It all, the what if I reallydid live in France?
And really kind of testing thedreams and testing the can I
turn a dream into a reality?

(12:10):
And that's what thoughts becomethings is, and I mean it
doesn't have your dreams, don'thave to be super fantastical,
right, maybe your dream is asandwich.
That starts as a thought too.
Everything starts as a thought.
You know, before you can havethe sandwich, you have to think
about the sandwich.
Before I could live in france,I had to think about living in

(12:34):
france, and there's a millionmicro decisions and a million
micro thoughts that come inbetween and it, it's how we
navigate them and it's what weinform ourselves with and how we
develop and construct ourbelief system that allows us to
take these thoughts and turnthem into things.

(12:56):
So when we talk aboutmindfulness and we talk about
awareness okay, those are reallycute buzzwords, but what does
that practically mean?
Well, it means turning up thevolume on your thoughts and how
you consciously observe whatyou're thinking about.
If you're thinking about doomand gloom all the time and you

(13:17):
step outside and the world isdoom and gloom, you know, I'm
sure you've heard.
The step outside and the worldis doom and gloom.
You know, I'm sure you've heardthe simile before where you
know, as soon as you buy the redcar, then you go out driving
and all you see is red cars.
It's about that consciousness,it's about that awareness, it's
about what you put out therecomes back to you and when I go
back and when I think about it.

(13:38):
There's been so many examples ofwhen something crossed my path
and literally came knocking atmy door to align with what my
beliefs and desires were, because I was tuned into them.
So, for example, I went toFrench immersion.
Growing up, I was the firstperson in my family to learn

(13:59):
French, and little did I knowthe trajectory that that would
put my life on, and the reasonthat my mom and dad did that is
because I have two olderbrothers, six and eight years
older than me.
So by the time it was my turnto go to kindergarten, I already
knew to count to 10 and mycolors and my shapes and numbers
and the alphabet and all thethings.

(14:20):
So my mom was like you're goingto be bored.
So I don't know, let's make youdo it in French.
That way you get a little bitof a challenge.
And it was kind of the style atthe time in the early 80s.
And then from there I just kepttaking French through school and
then in my jobs I always wantedto like when I was serving I
wanted to wait on the tablesthat spoke French so that I

(14:43):
could practice my French and Iwould watch French movies and
listen to French radio just tokind of keep those muscles
working.
And then, as I grew through mycareer at Starbucks, it just
kept taking me more and morewest until I lost my job.
So I'd been living in Calgaryworking the dream job and then
all of a sudden, poof, it wasgone.

(15:03):
But I had to lose that jobbecause the next opportunity
literally the day I wascontemplating everything in my
life after having lost so much ajob offer comes across my desk
and they're looking for peoplewith Starbucks learning
experience who speak French, andI was like well, they basically
looked at my resume and thenbuilt the job description into

(15:26):
it.
I was exactly what they neededand Montreal was exactly what I
wanted.
And I went to have a four yearsof a beautiful career and
incredible relationships there, and that's where I met the
Frenchman, which allowed me tohave an even deeper connection
with the French language.
I visited Paris lots becausethat's where my in-laws were and

(15:47):
where attention goes.
Energy flows.
That's not me, I totally stolethat from someone, but it's just
another way of saying.
Thoughts become things andevery time these opportunities
came up, it just felt right.
It just felt like life wasmeeting me where I was at.
But you have to know what you'reall about first so that you can

(16:09):
recognize it when it comes tofind you.
Because, believe it or not, weall have blind spots and we have
these amazing opportunitiesthat come and introduce
themselves, and if we're notfully tuned into our needs and
desires, we might just let thoseopportunities pass us by.
What are you doing?
My cat is drinking the waterout of the coffee machine.

(16:31):
Well, I mean, I like your taste, but C'est pas pour ça, petit
chat.
Voilà, allez on a de l'eau.
Juste là, coco, allez, allezboire.
That was a weird choice.
So where was I?
And I mean, there's so manygreat examples of thoughts
become things when you researchOlympians.

(16:51):
They have incrediblevisualization techniques that
they use where they are quiet, still, eyes closed, and they are
picturing a flawlessperformance.
And it's incredible, a flawlessperformance.
And it's incredible.
When you try to do that withsomething that's a closed loop

(17:12):
skill, like where every singlemotion and action is in your
control, your brain will want tomake mistakes.
So you start over again.
Because it's your mind, it'syour imagination.
You can rewind the tape andstart again.
So think of a 100 meter runner.
They can picture every singledetail of that going right the
shifting of the weight, the waythat they move forward, the

(17:34):
speed and power which with whichthey take off.
They can engineer thatperfectly in their mind and
practice the perfect race.
And then the body and themuscles.
It's just, it's preordained atthat point because it's
practiced.
So we get to decide what do wewant to practice?
We can really only payattention to one thing at a time

(17:57):
so that we do have control over.
So.
I was talking about this with afriend the other day, like I
feel, like you know, we're goinginto the last quarter of the
year.
It's October 1st today that I'mrecording this and it's time to
do a little bit of a cleansweep right.
Go through my accounts.
What's taking up my timeunnecessarily?

(18:19):
Is it teaching me something?
Is it lifting me up?
Is it an ingredient of my path,of where I want to go and where
I want to get to?
If not, maybe I got to unfollowthem.
How many emails are clogging upmy mindshare and my inbox?
Because I wanted their freebieor whatever, but I never planned

(18:41):
to read another one of theiremails again.
I got to.
I gotta unsubscribe from thatbusiness.
The news oh my goodness, how canI watch less news on TV.
This is my hot take.
There's lots of discussionaround the importance of being
involved and participating inyour community and your society
and knowing what's going on inthe world.

(19:02):
There's a strong case for that.
Also have to be super carefulabout what we consume, and
that's like mind, body andspirit.
Your diet is more than what youeat, my friends.
Your diet is the music youlisten to, it is the news that
you watch, it is the magazinesthat you indulge in.

(19:23):
That's consumption as well.
That is informing our brains.
Our brains don't know good orbad, it's just going to eat
whatever we serve it.
So spending in 30 minutes, 60minutes consuming the worst of
humanity while watching the newsbecause that's literally what,

(19:44):
in my opinion, the news does.
It puts the world through afilter and the worst stuff gets
the headline.
And I'm protecting my time alittle bit more than that, and I
got to tell you.
I encourage you to do the sameand see what happens, see what
shifts give up the news andmaybe you know, because the

(20:05):
thing is is that the news findsyou.
The news, and maybe you know, because the thing is is that the
news finds you If it'simportant with a capital, I like
globally.
As for us as a community, it'llmake its way to you and we
could we could all do with alittle bit less of it.
It's very inflammatory.
It causes inflammation.
Yeah, that's, maybe that's thething.

(20:25):
No news reduces inflammation.
How's that for a headline?
So when I talk about, thoughtsbecome things, I'm not really
talking about the secret, youknow, like this isn't about
manifestation.
So precisely, I mean, it's notnot about that, but what this is
about is awareness.
It's about intentionality, andthat gives you ownership,

(20:50):
because then the conversationbecomes everything that's ever
happened to you is because ofyou.
Right, everything that has everhappened to you is your fault,

(21:12):
is your fault.
And I know for me there was abig shift when I leaned into the
philosophy that everything wasmy fault, and then if I was like
well, if everything is my fault, that means that everything
good was because of me too.
What if I was in charge of allof it?
What would life look like?
How would life look different?
There's one for your journaltonight.
What if I was in charge of allof it?
What would life look like?
How would life look different?
There's one for your journaltonight.
What if you were in charge ofall of it, what would it look

(21:34):
like?
And trust me, the more space youtake up in your life, that
doesn't mean that things thatyou don't plan for aren't going
to happen.
Life be lifin', it's going tocome find you.
So I want your takeaways todayto be like I want this to lay
down the red carpet for us tostart just maybe looking at our

(21:57):
limiting beliefs a little bit, looking at how much space we're
taking up in our own lives, thinking about what would I
rather be thinking about, andthen sometimes just doing that.
And the more you indulge inthat kind of thinking, the more
life starts to align with thosethoughts and starts appearing

(22:21):
before you.
You think about the sandwichand all of a sudden you find
yourself eating a sandwich.
And when you say, and when youlevel the playing field and you
say something like, well, ifmoving to France is the same
recipe as making the sandwich, Ithink I, I think I can do this
and that.
And then some confidence comesin and some courage comes in and

(22:44):
you think you know what.
Someone somewhere has done thisbefore.
I can do this too.
So thoughts become things, linkswith a lot of things links with
self-talk.
How are we talking about ourlives?
And if that's too big, ifyou're more trees than forest,
how am I thinking about today?

(23:04):
How am I thinking about thisvery moment?
And then, how can I multiplythis good moment as many times
as I can?
It's all we got to do.
Shoot for as good as it gets, and we'll know when we get there
.
But what thoughts really love isaction, because I can't close
my eyes and just think of asandwich until I get one.

(23:24):
I've got to visualize myselfgetting up, going over to the
fridge, taking out the lettuce, pulling out the bread and so on.
It's not a lettuce sandwich, but you see where I'm going.
Your thoughts can do the rest.
So thoughts love action, and itdoesn't have to be big scary
action.
We can take big scary actionand do it.
We call that courage, and everysingle person that I talk to,

(23:48):
when you really ask them aboutit, they're braver than they
think they are how they perceivethemselves.
I should say so.
As we dial up the awareness andkind of jack the volume on our
thoughts a bit, you get a prettygood idea where the gaps are.

(24:10):
And when you run into somelanguage that maybe you used
yesterday that you don't want touse anymore tomorrow.
You can just catch yourself andjust be like, oh okay, I see
how this works.
I'm going to try saying thisinstead.
So I'm going to throw it backto the studio, but we'll finish
with a fun one which is carefulwhat you wish for, which is
another fun way to say thoughtsbecome things, because when you

(24:30):
really start dialing into thisway of thinking, you're going to
see some really big resultsreally quickly, which will make
you want to continue to developand flex and play in this space
where you get to decide what'sgoing on.
So when we intentionally chooseour thoughts, life becomes a

(24:51):
whole lot more fun when you'retuned in and you're dialed into
what your needs and desires are.
I'm so excited for you to startfeeling this change and I really
hope that this little livingroom rambling resonated with you
and maybe sparked something, and I want you to take this
conversation and keep it in yourpocket all week when your

(25:13):
awareness of your thoughts kindof picks up a little bit.
Okay, so I'm going to throwthis back to the studio, I hope.
May your thoughts be lovely andyour day be magic.
